  1. HUGE changes are happening at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The Polynesian Village Resort Disney is in the process of creating a WHOLE new set of Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villas, and we’ve been following the construction of the project since it began. The new villas are set to open later this year, but Disney hasn’t set an exact timeline or opening date. However, we do have some idea about what will be included with this huge expansion. What the New Building Will Look Like When Disney announced the new villas, they said the look would be “inspired by the early concepts for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.” Disney also released concept art of the new buildings. As you can see, the building itself has a Polynesian Village Resort look and feel with palm trees scattered about. We can also see chairs set up along the water (for fireworks viewing, possibly!) and a pool in the distance. ©Disney | Polynesian Village Resort concept art It’s being built on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon, offering waterfront views. We can imagine that those staying in the new villas will have AMAZING views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. 3 Big Disney Discounts ONLY DVC Members Can Get Recreation and Amenities Disney has also promised that the villas will offer new dining and swimming areas. We’ve already seen the construction of one building on the site that a Cast Member has told us could be a restaurant, with an area under construction just beyond that will reportedly be a new pool. So it looks like at least one restaurant could be attached to the pool (maybe more like a pool bar/lounge situation?). The original concept art includes a pool, so this could be where it will be. Potential new restaurant and pool area Disney has also mentioned that the new villas will have other “recreational areas,” although we don’t know exactly what that means just yet. 11 Unfortunate Things That Happen Every Time We Stay at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Rooms We also know a little bit about the rooms. One, from construction photos and concept art, it seems every room will have a balcony, so expect great views. We can also surmise that the room sizes will include both 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom villas. Looks like all rooms will have a balcony Disney has said that Imagineers are working on making the rooms in a way that honors the past while working with the existing theme. Right now, the Polynesian’s other rooms are Moana-themed, so we might guess that the new villas will carry on with that theme in some way. We can also expect that the rooms will have Hey, Disney installed, as this service is already available in the Polynesian’s existing rooms. FULL TOUR of Some of the Newest Hotel Rooms in Disney World! Disney hasn’t given us a lot of details for these new DVC villas, yet, but we’ve been keeping an eye out for more information. We’re also keeping an eye on construction to see if we can spot any clues as to what the new villas might include. 2. The Walt Disney Company has had its share of conflicts over the past few years. ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters One CEO stepped down, while a former CEO returned to the role. There’s an ongoing feud with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The company’s reputation among consumers has taken a major hit. After announcing a huge partnership for a new sports streaming service, the company is also under scrutiny by the U.S. Department of Justice. But as an employer, how does Disney compare to other big companies? Well, now we know. Forbes recently released its list of the best large U.S. employers, with companies ranked in partnership with Statista, a market research firm. Employees at U.S. companies with more than 5,000 workers were surveyed about how they would rate their employer and if they would recommend their employer to others. Walt Disney Company Headquarters ©LA Times Survey participants included current employees, those who’ve worked for the company within the past two years, and people familiar with the company through other people they may know affiliated with that industry. Those survey responses were tallied, with the top 600 organizations listed as those that ranked the highest. So, how did Disney rank? Well, Disney came in at #419 overall. ©Forbes However, the company came in second within its industry, Media and Advertising, just below Interpublic Group. It ranked higher than Comcast, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Netflix. ©Forbes Meanwhile, Disneyland Cast Member performers recently formed a labor union that will represent theatrical performers, parade performers, and character performers, as well as hosts, leads, and trainers that support Disneyland’s entertainment department. The new union will be represented by the Actors’ Equity Association — the same union that represents performers and stage managers at Disney World, on Broadway, and in other live theater productions across the U.S. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news. 3. Just because something is on the Internet does not make it true. Disney Wish That’s right. Now, we spend a lot of time debunking myths about Disney World or about the Disney company in general (no, Walt Disney was NOT cryogenically frozen). Now we know that there are some Internet hoaxes, though, that seem VERY real, and we found one that might have fooled a lot of folks. A TikTok user posted a video that seems both hilarious and terrifying, claiming that it’s 1:30AM and that a Disney Cruise Line ship horn, which blasts the tune of “When You Wish Upon A Star,” is broken and just playing over and over again…loudly. You can see the video below. Honestly, this IS the stuff of nightmares, but we think a little knowledge of how the horns work is in order. On most cruise ships, there’s just one air horn, but Disney Cruise Line has multiple air horns, each programmed to a specific musical note so that a group of those notes can form part of a song. A control panel on the ship allows the Captain and crew to choose which series of notes to play, hence the song. Every Disney cruise ship can play “Wish Upon A Star,” but other ships also play a series of notes from other songs. Disney Wish Let’s just say it’s highly unlikely that the horns can get stuck because they’re actually multiple horns set to play through the series of notes once. That’s it. It’s just not likely to get stuck, and if it did, you can guarantee Disney has a way to stop it quickly. Also, if you listen to the “announcement” on the video, it doesn’t resemble the kinds of announcements you’d hear on a Disney Cruise. Disney Magic We think this is probably just a parody video, so if that is the case, it is pretty funny. But please don’t think this could happen on a Disney Cruise and don’t let this scare you off from taking a Disney Cruise in the future. Helmsman Mickey on the Disney Magic Stay tuned to DFB for more. 5. Leaving for your next Disney World trip so soon? Security We know that when you’re packing there’s a lot to consider with all the clothes and snacks you’re going to bring, but have you thought about how what you pack can save you time at airport security? Let’s talk about some things that will help with that! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. We’re talking about bags. You’ll find them everywhere you look when at Disney World, and believe it or not, what bags you pack can really save you time when you’re going through airport security. Our main recommendation is for you to carry smaller and lightweight bags. So, let’s go over some options. Consider this Belt Bag ©Amazon There really isn’t a better way to carry your light essentials throughout the parks. It’s light and has enough room for all you need to get you through the day and its size makes it a breeze to bring through security, unlike a big and bulky backpack. This also works well for airport security. It’s easy to take on and off and can house what you need on the plane! View on Amazon Check out this Travel Toiletry Bag ©Amazon If you are bringing a bigger bag, consider something small like this to house all of your toiletries! This helps tons when dealing with airport security so everything that may need to be checked is placed together. It can also help in case anything needs to be checked at the parks! 6. When you travel to Disney World, do you fly? Do you fly to Disney World? We think the majority of you probably do, which is why we always try to keep you updated on any airfare deals we find or when airlines announce new flights to Orlando. Well, guess what? An airline just added new flights to Orlando…but there’s a catch. So here’s the thing…these new flights aren’t to and from Orlando International Airport. Instead, they’re in and out of Orlando’s OTHER airport, Orlando Sanford Airport. Yes, you actually have ANOTHER option to fly in and out of Orlando. Now, you might have even more of a reason to use this airport. According to The Orlando Business Journal, Allegiant Air is now offering flights three times a week from Greater Rochester International Airport in Rochester, New York, to Orlando Sanford Airport. If you fly out of Rochester, it just got way more convenient to get to Disney World! Orlando Sanford International Airport via AllEars.net This could save you a lot of money on your flights, even if you have to fly to a different airport. We’ve found that Sanford is typically a LOT easier to navigate because it’s much smaller than Orlando International Airport, plus it’s a lot less stressful (especially when it comes to security lines). However, it is a little further away from Disney World, but several private shuttle services can get you to and from Disney World, along with rideshare. You can also rent a car if that’s what you prefer. ©Orlando Sanford International Airport So it’s definitely worth a thought if you’re looking to save some money on your next Disney World trip and these flights are convenient for you! We suggest researching all your options before committing to one. ©Allegiant Airlines Stay tuned to DFB for more. 7. It seems like Disney has been busy refreshing hotels and hotel rooms ALL over the world. World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland The Disneyland Hotel just recently got its own DVC villas. The old Paradise Pier Hotel in Disneyland just became Pixar Place Hotel with a brand-new theme. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is got some new DVC cabins. We’ve even seen new hotel rooms at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, BoardWalk Resort, Beach Club Resort, and more! In Paris, the Disneyland Hotel reopened with a completely new ROYAL theme. Now, a Hong Kong Disneyland hotel is getting some new deluxe hotel rooms. Disney’s Hollywood Hotel at Hong Kong Disneyland is getting a Mickey and Friends update! The newly designed “Mickey and Friends” rooms feature some of your favorite classic Disney characters. You’ll see Donald Duck’s family, like Huey, Louie, Dewey, and Webby. But it’s the HUGE mural above the bed that will really get your attention. There’s Mickey, Minnie, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, and Pluto. Yep, the WHOLE gang. ©Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Check out the Mickey pillows on each bed. Um…we want these for our house, Disney! ©Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Deluxe rooms sleep up to four people with two double beds or one king bed. Also, there’s a fun circular mirror opposite the bed. As you can see here, the room’s colors are colors associated with classic Mickey Mouse — and we love it! ©Hong Kong Disneyland Resort The bathrooms have also been upgraded — the mirror has a fun filmstrip-inspired frame. That’s because the overall concept for the hotel is Hollywood! ©Hong Kong Disneyland Resort These rooms will be available in spring 2024, so if you’re looking to book a stay at Hong Kong Disneyland, you might just want to check them out for your visit. Note that the rest of the hotel got an upgrade last year. Those rooms will be ready on April 26th, 2024. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 8. We recently got a TON of announcements from The Walt Disney Company. ESPN Wide World of Sports During the company’s Q1 2024 earnings call, we learned how Disney Parks (and other experiences) were doing financially. We also learned how Disney’s streaming services were doing, including learning that Disney+ recently lost subscribers. Just before the earnings call, Disney announced a huge sports streaming partnership between ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery to create a NEW mega sports streaming service. However, there’s a chance that partnership may not be allowed to happen. The general idea for the new streaming service was to bring three companies together to create a joint streaming platform for sports content. The new sports subscription service would be available to ESPN+, Hulu, and Max subscribers, with each company owning one-third of the product. ©ESPN However, ACA Connects, a group representing around 500 small and medium cable providers, recently called for the U.S. Department of Justice to review the deal. The cable group believes that the partnership creates an “anticompetitive sports streaming juggernaut.” As a result, the U.S. Department of Justice now has plans to examine the new streaming platform, according to Reuters. ESPN feature at CES 2024 Disney has already announced that the new streaming service is expected to launch in the fall and will offer a variety of professional and college sports coverage. Subscribers will have the option to subscribe directly or bundle the service with their existing Disney+, Hulu, and Max subscriptions. ©Disney ACA Connects has cited that “allowing the biggest media players to join forces while locking out traditional linear cable providers from offering the same package at the same price — only gives more power and leverage to the Goliaths to extract more money from customers of ACA Connects Members.” The Justice Department will reportedly scrutinize all details of Disney’s sports streaming service when the deal is finalized, per Reuters. 9. Listen, Disney World can be both the best and absolute worst. Magic Kingdom The food, rides, entertainment, and level of immersion are just second to none, but that doesn’t mean Disney’s knocking it out of the park with everything they do. We figured it was time to address some of the unhinged things we’re begging Disney to stop doing in 2024. Let’s talk about it! Festival Date Fiascos Hey Disney, do you remember the Flower and Garden Festival? The one you shrunk just a month before it started, throwing everyone’s meticulously planned springtime trips into disarray? Flower and Garden Festival topiaries And don’t even get us started on the NEVER-ENDING saga of festival dates announced later and later and later. That leaves us scrambling to adjust vacations and budgets. Disney, we adore your festivals, but this announcement game needs a serious overhaul. We’ve got the MENUS for the 2024 Flower & Garden Festival right here! Early Holiday Madness Look, we know Halloween is practically a national holiday at this point and we’re all for getting our spook on, but starting fall festivities in August? That’s like putting up Christmas lights before Halloween. Fall in Disney World How about we keep the seasons right where they belong and not skip straight from sunscreen to pumpkin spice, alright? When will tickets go on sale for the 2024 Halloween Party? We’re making an education guess! Teasing Updates Forever Don’t you just love the joy of a HUGE Disney announcement followed by… years of crumbs?? Disney, I mean, we’re all for anticipation, but can we please have some actual updates once in a while? Opening soon! We get it, good things take time, but the anticipation is killing us. It’s like waiting for your favorite show to drop a new season, only to get a trailer once every six months. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is opening early, though! The Opening Date Debacles Speaking of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’ve got a pretty good feeling that we’ve heard more “opening soon” announcements than actual ride details at this point. “Coming Summer 2024!” Disney, any chance we can please, pretty please get a clear and concise opening date that doesn’t involve nine different press releases and a decoder ring? Our patience, and park passes, are starting to feel pretty thin. What comes after the drop in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure? We’re sharing a clue! The News Avalanche Disney, we really appreciate being in the loop, but dropping a bazillion announcements at once and then ghosting us for weeks? Magic Kingdom How about changing things up by spacing the news out a bit, and letting us savor each announcement instead of bombarding us with a news frenzy. EPCOT Those are just a couple of the things we’re hoping Disney will stop doing this year. 10. Disney World has lots of different construction projects happening right now. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Country Bear Jamboree and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are under construction in Magic Kingdom, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is under refurbishment (again) in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and multiple different Disney World hotels have projects underway. But there’s one hotel project that we’re starting to get REALLY worried about. Back in December, Disney announced that the reimagined cabins coming to Fort Wilderness will open by Summer 2024! Disney’s Fort Wilderness The problem? Well, we’re halfway through February, and nothing has happened yet. Not on Fort Wilderness property, that is. It is entirely possible Disney is building these cabins offsite and will bring them in and place them when they’re ready. Current Fort Wilderness Cabin In fact, Disney just shared a NEW video of a model cabin. Read more about all the new details HERE! There are over 350 cabins being refurbished — that’s a LOT of cabins to build! And these aren’t just small renovations either — these cabins are being completely reimagined inside and out. ©Disney So, we’re starting to prepare ourselves to see this opening timeline pushed back. This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen Disney do this. In fact, we’ve seen them do it MANY times, including recently, when all of EPCOT’s walls were supposed to be down by the end of 2023, and alas, walls are still very much all around the park. ©Disney We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest Disney news surrounding this refurbishment, so stay tuned to DFB! 11. We’ve warned you about that finicky Florida weather. A rainy day in Magic Kingdom It’s especially chaotic this time of the year. We’ve seen super cold days, as well as hot days. We’ve also seen a lot of rainy days (if it doesn’t rain at least ONCE on your Disney World trip, are you really in Orlando, Florida?). Although rainy days can put a bit of a dampener (see what we did there?) on your day in the parks, it could also give you the best park day ever. Why? Because rainy days tend to keep crowds away. It’s been pretty wet the past few days in Disney World, but we’ve noticed that it’s kept things very quiet in the parks. February 17th-19th is a holiday weekend, so we were expecting some large crowds in the parks. On February 17th, we noticed that many people decided to don their raincoats and ponchos to tackle Magic Kingdom. But not as many as we might have expected. All park pass reservations are open for all four parks, too. Magic Kingdom However, the shops were FULL of people trying to wait out the rain. Shops are busy, though The rain, though, was relentless, so outside, things seemed pretty calm. Even Main Street, U.S.A. was relatively calm. Main Street, U.S.A. The rain did let up a little, and by the time we visited Hollywood Studios, there were some more people out and about. Hollywood Studios On February 18th, though, we saw even fewer people in the parks. This is one of the shortest Magic Kingdom Monorail lines we’ve seen at the Ticket and Transportation Center in a while. Short Monorail line Magic Kingdom felt like a ghost town when we arrived. Look at how few people are hanging around Cinderella Castle! Where is everyone? Ride wait times were low this morning, too. Pirates of the Caribbean only had a 10-minute wait — that’s basically a walk-on ride right now. Just 10 minutes? Even later, the rain seems to have kept a lot of people indoors. We like this! We have to be honest; we love days like this in Disney World, especially when we don’t expect it. We’re not sure where the holiday weekend crowds are, but we’re enjoying the calm that the rain brings to the parks. Stay tuned to DFB for more. When are you headed to Disney World next? 12. We’ve been impatiently watching construction on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom for what feels like forever. Mural at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Okay, it’s only technically been about a year, but we’ve enjoyed watching progress on the new ride, like seeing the water tower going up and seeing all the new additions being added regularly. Well, on February 18th, we saw something HUGE happening on the ride, and we have to share it with you: WATER is flowing through Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. WATER, PEOPLE!!! Those familiar with Splash Mountain, the ride that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaced, know that the ride is a log flume ride, which means you need water to move the logs (filled with people) through the attraction. This basic design remains the same for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, but this is the first time we’ve seen the ride filled with water. This could indicate that Disney is preparing to start testing the ride. We recently got an update that the ride is set to open EARLY in Disney World (this summer!), so we already know we’re pretty close to the opening date. Summer isn’t that far away, folks! Check it out! The ride will pick up the story after Tiana’s adventures in The Princess and the Frog, during New Orleans’ Carnival season (party!), and Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras Party. The party is missing a “key ingredient,” though, so we are going to be asked to take a trip through the Bayou to find it. ©Disney We recently got a look at the Tiana animatronic we’ll see at the beginning of the ride, and um…WOW! She looks amazing. ©Disney Of course, music will also be a big part of the ride, with original music “inspired by songs from the film.” Many of the original voice actors from the film have also offered their voices for the ride, including Bruno Campos as Prince Naveen, Michael Leon Wooley as Louis, Jennifer Lewis as Mama Odie, and, of course, Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana. ©Disney We’ll be keeping an eye out for MORE Tiana’s Bayou Adventure updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 13. Let us set the scene. It’s a bright, sunny morning. You’re standing in line for the bus to Magic Kingdom at your Disney World hotel. It’s time to rope-drop the park! Fiiiiinally, the bus arrives, but you’re pretty far back in line. Uh-oh. Disney World Well, it looks like it’s going to be standing-room-only on the bus. Time to grab a handrail and head to the Magic Kingdom. Now, for a lot of people, this is probably no big deal. But for some of us, standing on a jam-packed Disney World bus is a literal nightmare. Here’s why. Unlike a regular public transportation bus in, say, New York City, Disney World buses aren’t confined to narrow city streets and endless traffic. Disney buses can travel pretty fast on highways and make wide turns, and they even have their own special bus lane in some parts of Disney World. Know what that means for us standing passengers? You need to know how to BALANCE. Disney bus We know we’re not alone when we say that we get a liiiitle nervous about falling over or losing our balance onboard a Disney bus. And when you’re standing on a bus full of people, it’s easy to start looking at your fellow passengers and thinking to yourself, “Do NOT fall on them!” Yep. We’re scared of falling on Disney buses — and we’re not afraid to admit it. Learn how to BALANCE! Luckily, we have a lot of practice bus surfing — we mean standing — so let us share some tips that have eased our travel anxiety. First, it’s all in the legs. Ground yourself so that your weight is evenly distributed and your legs are spread apart enough to catch yourself if the bus lurches forward, backward, or sideways. Don’t keep your feet too close together! Imagine you’re surfing and position your legs as if you’re standing on a surfboard. Got it? Bus transportation at Disney World You may also have to stand on a few other types of Disney transportation, like the monorail or boat. In our experience, you typically have a little more breathing room on these other kinds of transportation. Pro tip: make sure to check the transportation schedule on your My Disney Experience app so you know how late Disney transportation will be open. Monorail We’ll be honest — after a long day of walking through Disney World, the last thing we want to do is keep standing all the way back to our room, but sometimes you just don’t have a choice. The best solution? Wear comfortable shoes! The more bounce and cushion you have in your shoes, the less likely your feet are to feel sore at the end of the day. Looking for some shoe recommendations? Click here! If you have transportation anxiety like us, the good news is that you’ll (probably) NEVER see your fellow bus (or boat, monorail, or Skyliner) passengers again. So even if something embarrassing happens, no one will ever remember. Trust us — we’ve been in some awkward travel situations, and you know what? They end up making for a funny story later on. Do you mind standing on a bus? OK, maybe those buses aren’t so bad after all! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 41% of Fans Say This Is the BEST Disney World Transportation Method Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 14. You know those snacks that you just can’t be trusted to keep in your house? The ones that are so tempting, you find yourself lying awake at midnight wondering if you should go sneak a bite? Some things are just irresistible…. We feel that way about some Disney World snacks. Like, seriously — we would totally sneak into the parks for certain snacks. Not in an illegal way, of course, but we would totally sneak away from our fam for some peace, quiet, and alone time with said treats. Can’t relate? Well, you just haven’t met these snacks yet. Let’s go! Are you wearing your stretchy pants? Good. Because we’re headed to grab our TOP 5 favorite Disney World snacks that we find simply irresistible. We made this epic creation one time, and it’s still living rent-free in our minds Of course, there are some well-known greats like Dole Whip, Cheshire Cat Tails, the Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich, and sweet Maple Popcorn. However, the snacks that really blow us away and have us sneaking back into the parks time after time are the ones that are sometimes overlooked. Not on our watch. Without further ado: Gingerbread Salted Caramel Buttercream Cookie Sandwich – Karamel Kuche Yeah, just the mere mention of its name is enough to get us to run right over to Karamell-Kuche in EPCOT. It’s so good that our team members often grab SEVERAL when they visit Karamell-Kuche, just so they can have one for later, too. This is the type of snack you hide in the back of the hotel fridge so that your family can’t steal it. No sharing, here, thanks! Gingerbread Salted Caramel Buttercream Cookie Sandwich We’re not alone in these feelings, though. The Gingerbread Salted Caramel Buttercream Cookie Sandwich has earned quite the following from seasoned Disney snack fans. This bad boy is worth a trip to the parks. So creamy The snack consists of two giant spiced gingerbread cookies, sandwiched together by some of the most delicious caramel and buttercream frosting. The spice of the gingerbread combined with the sweetness of the caramel and frosting makes for the PERFECT snack. No aspect of the treat is overwhelming. In the past, this cookie could only be found during the holidays. It was SO popular, though, that the restaurant decided to make it part of the year-round menu. Thank goodness. Mini Mango Pies – Yak & Yeti Local Foods Disney didn’t know it at the time, but they almost had a riot on their hands. Many of us were deeply affected when the precious Mini Mango Pies were quietly taken off the menu at Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Mini Mango Pie These little slices of heaven feature a graham cracker crumble crust, with a mango-flavored pie filling. They are delicious! When they disappeared off menus, our hearts shattered. Tears fell. Mourning happened. (Okay, we’re being dramatic. But we were SO sad!) So, you can imagine how happy we were when it returned. We came up with ANY excuse to get to Animal Kingdom. So delicious The only regret we had about sneaking into the park to grab this one? That we didn’t grab seconds and thirds for later. Cheeseburger Spring Rolls If you’ve ever crossed over from Main Street to Adventureland, there’s a chance you’ve noticed a long line (and not for a ride or attraction!) near the land’s entrance. Cheeseburger Spring Roll These folks are waiting for the Spring Roll Cart. The cheeseburger spring rolls sold here are the highlight of a trip to Magic Kingdom for super-fans of the savory snack. These little guys are arguably Magic Kingdom’s most popular snack. Cheeseburger Spring Rolls They’re served as 2 cheeseburger-stuffed egg rolls filled with minced ground beef and gooey cheese and are the epitome of a flavor-packed snack. They’re crispy on the outside and give you the satisfaction of biting into a typical Chinese spring roll, but the inside tastes like the best burger you’ve ever had. If you spot us in the front of the line on your next visit, no, you didn’t. Actually, yes you did. There is absolutely no shame in our game when it comes to these bad boys. Loaded Burnt Ends Fries Next up, we’re headed to Regal Eagle Smokehouse in EPCOT for some FRIES. Now, hold your horses. Don’t start scrolling away yet. These ain’t your average French-fried taters. Loaded burnt-end fries at Regal Eagle Nosirree. These are the Loaded Burnt-end Fries. These iconic beauties really need no introduction because their presentation says all that needs to be said of them. But, just to get you droolin’ even more: they’re made of Seasoned French Fries with Burnt Ends, Macaroni & Cheese, and Beer-battered Onion Rings. Yes, this “snack” is more like a full meal in hiding. And it’s phenomenal. These are loaded! This is a snack that’s made as a heartier fixin’! There’s plenty here for a satisfying meal for one person or a heftier shareable snack for two! However, we totally don’t believe in sharing. Don’t do it. You won’t want to. French Fries With Pulled Pork and Cheese More fries? Yes. But once again, these ain’t your average fries! Next, we’re here to talk about the French Fries with Pulled Pork and Cheese from Flame Tree Barbecue in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We love to see all that plastic cheese! This snack has all our favorites in one — french fries topped with barbecue sauce, pulled pork, and cheddar cheese sauce. YES. PLASTIC CHEESE. These fries are so savory, tangy, and perfectly salty. Just one bite is almost more than our taste buds can handle at once — in the best way possible. This is easily a shareable snack, but don’t be surprised if a friendship or two is ruined because you just can’t bring yourself to share this snack. (But this is why we sneak into the parks for these. To AVOID SHARING.) So. Good. Well, there you have it. The mere mention of these snacks will have us MOVING MOUNTAINS to get to the Disney World parks to chow down. The secrets we would keep. The plans we would make. There’s nothing we wouldn’t do. 16. Let’s face it — Going to Disney World is NOT a relaxing vacation. You start your day with chaotic rope drop in the morning, then you race to as many rides as possible, wait in a bunch of lines, walk approximately one million steps, and pass out cold as soon as your head hits the pillow each night. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, the theme parks are NOT where you’ll find it. That’s why we recommend checking out the pools at your Disney World hotel to grab some actual relaxation time! Fuentes del Morro Pool If you’re staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort or Disney’s Port Orleans — French Quarter, you’ll need to know about these pool CLOSURES that could affect your vacation. But don’t worry! At both hotels, you have a few backup options so you don’t have to completely give up your chill pool time. Let’s check out those closures and all the temporary refurbishments happening in Disney World from February 18th through the 24th. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort The Fuentes del Morro Pool is the most popular pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. The pool is themed to look like a colonial Spanish fortress and has two waterslides (including one that’s over a hundred feet long!), water spray cannons, and a shipwreck play area for the little kiddos. Fuentes del Morro pool Fuentes del Morro is currently closed, and it’ll remain closed through late March of this year, so about another month or so. The closure is for routine maintenance, which we often see at Disney’s hotel pools during the winter months. Fuentes del Moro pool So if you’re staying at Caribbean Beach, are you just out of luck? Don’t worry! You can still visit any of the five leisure pools at this hotel. There’s one leisure pool at each village. Doubloon Lagoon Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter Doubloon Lagoon at Port Orleans — French Quarter has a 51-foot long water slide that looks like a sea serpent, a whirlpool spa, and Mardi Gras decorations. The pool closed in January and will stay closed through April 2024. Doubloon Lagoon Pool If you’re staying at French Quarter and want to take a swim, head over to Ol’ Man Island at Port Orleans — Riverside, which you can easily walk to from French Quarter. Ol’ Man Island is actually a pool complex! The pool area there has waterfalls, a 95-foot waterslide, a whirlpool, and a kiddie pool. Doubloon Lagoon Those aren’t the only current closures in Disney World, though. Check out this list to see more rides, restaurants, and attractions that are currently being affected by refurbishments. Magic Kingdom Country Bear Jamboree Country Bear Jamboree closed on January 27th, 2024, for refurbishment. Bear with us! Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick service restaurant that’s remained closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Splash Mountain closed over a year ago for a long refurbishment. The ride is being re-themed to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, with a Princess and the Frog theme. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney The new ride will reopen THIS SUMMER! Disney previously said it’d open in late 2024, but we’re excited that it’s actually going to open earlier than planned. Last year, when the ride closed around this time (on February 20th, to be exact), it reopened on May 26th. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Well, it’s official — Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in Disney World. We had suspected this was the case for some time (as it hasn’t actually been open for a few years now), but now the permanent closure has been confirmed. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a NEW show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024. ©Disney It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” Is This a CLUE that Something NEW Is Coming to Hollywood Studios? Disney’s Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids Kali River Rapids usually closes early in the year for refurbishment since water rides like this tend to be less popular during the winter months when it’s colder than usual. No one wants to get soaked if it’s chilly outside! In 2024, it closed on January 8th. Kali River Rapids Disney has announced that Kali River Rapids will be closed through mid-March. Right now, Disney’s calendar shows that this ride should reopen on March 16th, but Disney hasn’t officially confirmed this as the reopening date. Baby Animal TRIPLETS Have Arrived in Animal Kingdom! 17. The weather is unpredictable no matter where you live. But in Orlando, Florida (especially Disney World), the weather feels EXTRA hard to predict. Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular We’ve experienced everything from extreme heat to extreme cold (at least in Florida) and everything in between. However, one weather occurrence you can count on in Disney World is RAIN. Well, it’s recently been VERY rainy and wet in Disney World, and that weather has affected one show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. On February 17th, Cast Members informed us that Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular was being cut a little short due to the rain (which makes sense because those stunt actors can’t work with slippery conditions during those dangerous stunts!). Today’s schedule If you’ve never watched the show, it’s based on some of the most iconic scenes and stunts from the first Raiders of the Lost Ark movie. The final scenes are particularly exciting as Indy and Marion try to stop a Nazi plane from flying the Ark to Berlin. It ends with a narrow escape as the airfield explodes into flames. Disney wasn’t kidding when they said, “Epic.” We went to check the show out for ourselves to see what was different. Disney shared an announcement before the show to inform spectators that the performances would be cut short. Watch out for the spikes! Despite the rain, we still got to see the fun boulder scene. I wouldn’t do that if I were you Watch out, Indy! The boulder Half of the second scene was cut from the show, as well as that explosive final scene. Granted, it’s still a fun show, but if you go in expecting the full show on a rainy day, be warned. The final scene of the show was the vehicle flipping over. We did get to see some pyrotechnics, though! Last scene of the show today The weather can often affect things in Disney World, and it often will even cause rides to close, as well as shows, parades, and fireworks. You’ll want to keep an eye out for announcements and notifications while you’re in the parks if it’s rainy. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 20. We’ve got a short list of Disney rides that are TOTAL must-dos for us. Soarin’ Over California Many rides are classic attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean (that SMELL alone gives us nostalgic feels). Haunted Mansion is also a no-brainer for us because the special effects in that attraction STILL make us happy. We will also make time to hop on Soarin’ despite the fact if you’re not sitting right in the center, the Eiffel Tower looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But we’ve got some good news, Soarin’ Over California is set to return soon in Disney California Adventure! In case you missed it, the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival begins on March 1st and runs through April 22nd. In honor of the festival, Soarin’ Over California will return to that park on March 1st! It’s like regular Soarin’, but this time, you’ll be gliding above California’s natural and man-made wonders, accompanied by a score by Academy Award-winning composer Jerry Goldsmith. Soarin’ in California Adventure Once you’ve been on Soarin’ Over California a few times, be sure to check out the rest of the Food and Wine Festival, too. There will be a TON of food booths with delicious cuisine, plus demonstrations, tastings, seminars, special entertainment, festival-exclusive merchandise, characters, and more. 2023 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival We’ll also be there on day ONE of the festival to fill you in on everything there is to eat and drink and tell you all about the special events and entertainment happening during the festival. Well, get ready because Disneyland is adding another one to the list. Easter may still be a month away, but this new Easter popcorn bucket is one of the GREATEST things we’ve ever seen. The bucket itself looks like an Easter basket and features the ICONIC duo of Chip and Dale. They’re having a great time with those Easter eggs. IT’S SO CUTE We are seriously OBSESSED with how adorable this souvenir looks. We love all the bright colors. It’s so colorful Plus, we also love how much room there is for POPCORN inside! Some popcorn buckets are super cute but don’t hold lots of popcorn, but this one will hold a pretty generous amount. Lots of popcorn can fit in there! 22. Magic Kingdom is Disney World’s most popular park on most days, home to the iconic Cinderella Castle, unforgettable attractions, and some of the most exciting entertainment. Festival of Fantasy Parade One of the most popular events in Magic Kingdom is the Festival of Fantasy Parade! The iconic parade features huge, elaborate floats and includes characters like princesses, princes, heroes, Mickey and Minnie, an actual FIRE-BREATHING DRAGON, and more. If you’ve never seen it before, it definitely needs to be on your must-do list! For the past few months, this parade has only been happening once per day, at 3PM. But that’s about to change. Starting tomorrow, February 18th, Festival of Fantasy is moving back to two showtimes per day, one at 12PM and one at 3PM! ©Disney This is fantastic for many guests, especially those who may only be doing a half day in the park — now you can catch it in the first OR second half of the day. (Or you could watch the parade at BOTH times, which would definitely be our choice!) Ariel in the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom The Festival of Fantasy Parade is a fantastic parade filled with massive floats, dancing, original songs, and of course, some of your favorite Disney characters like Ariel, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and so many more. Festival of Fantasy Parade The parade route starts in Frontierland, runs through Liberty Square, continues into the Castle Hub, and then up Main Street U.S.A. While Main Street is the most iconic place to watch the parade, catching it in Frontierland is often less crowded, and just as great as seeing it near the castle! Elsa and Anna The calendar is showing both parade times (12PM and 3PM) for the foreseeable future, but we’ll be sure to let you know if that changes. 23. President’s Day weekend is here, which means many people may be traveling for the holiday. Magic Kingdom Entrance Traveling means driving for many hours for a lot of people, and if that’s the case, it’s important to keep up with gas prices to know how much you may be spending. If you’re traveling this February, be prepared — gas prices are on the rise. According to CNN, gas prices have increased by 11 cents in just the past week, hitting an average of $3.28 a gallon. Now, gas prices typically increase in the winter to the spring transition. As we approach springtime, demand is higher, and gas stations switch over to more expensive fuel, but there are some unexpected issues also causing prices to rise. Driving to Disney World One of the largest refineries, located in the Midwest, has been shut down for a week, making supply more scarce. According to Andy Lipow, president of consulting firm Lipow Oil Associates, “January and February are the lowest gas demand months,” so it’s not a big surprise to see these prices rising. Welcome to Disney World! If you’re driving to Disney World, or any destination that will cause you to have to fill up on gas pretty often, check out these tips below to help you save some of that gas, thanks to Progressive. Use Cruise Control if your car has it! It’ll help boost your gas mileage and help your gas last longer. Don’t speed! Faster speeds, such as between 55-75+ miles per hour, burn more fuel (but if the speed limit is 70, make sure you’re driving the speed limit!) Consistent speed is better than stopping and starting — AKA, highway driving is better than backroads with traffic lights and stop signs. 24. When you think of Disney World, chances are a particular smell is the best thing that will trigger the first memory from your last trip. Animal Kingdom There’s probably at least one scent that you’ve smelled while in the parks that will take you back to a particular memory. While you can’t bring Disney World back home with you, maybe the next best thing would be to bring back its smells with you. That’s probably why Disney-scented candles are so popular! And we just found one place in Disney World where you can get them at a DISCOUNT! On a recent visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we spotted a Bowes Signature Candles kiosk on Discovery Island, right across from Flame Tree Barbecue. Candles We’ve seen this spot open and selling candles before, but it’s not always here, so we were excited to see it return! Candle making table Bowes Signature Candles has partnered with Disney for years to bring you distinct smells from around the parks, hotels, and rides that you just can’t get anywhere else. And, as we spotted on this particular trip, from time to time they also release a few seasonal scents, too! Bowes seasonal candle This one smelled just like the H2O products that have been offered in all of the Disney World hotels. Just like the H2O products Bowes also has a store open in Disney Springs, but there’s one very good reason why some people should shop at the kiosk in Animal Kingdom if it’s open instead: The Annual Passholder and DVC discounts can ONLY be used at the location in the park and NOT at Disney Springs. Scanning in So although the big candles are actually CHEAPER in Disney Springs ($23 as opposed to $25 in the parks), with the Annual Passholder 20% off merchandise discount, you could get them for $20 instead! Candles Both locations — in Animal Kingdom and at Disney Springs — offer a “make your own candle” experience, too! Candle Making Experience For $30, you can create your own customized fragrance. 25. You know when you’re expecting BIG, exciting news and you just wait by the phone in anticipation all day? Magic Kingdom That’s how we feel with a lot of Disney World news. If you’re a longtime Disney fan, you’ve likely noticed that Disney releases teensy bits of news at a time. That leaves us sitting on the edge of our SEATS for major announcements. Well, things felt nice and complete as we wrapped up the end of the week; we got THREE huge announcements and updates from Disney! Let’s talk about it. Alright, if you aren’t already excited, you should be. Ya ready? Menus Announced for the 2024 Flower and Garden Festival Starting on February 28th, the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival will kick off. We can’t wait! This springtime festival typically brings stunning topiaries, floral displays, and lots of fun activities. But the thing we’re most excited about is the FOOD. And Disney just announced the menus for the festival! Bambi Topiary There are new menu items, the Garden Graze stroll is returning, and we’re just SO stoked to grub and check out all things SPRING. If you’re hoping to check out the full menus, click here. Snow White and Dopey This year’s Flower and Garden Festival is a bit shorter than usual, so make sure to head to the park before May 27th to snag the food. Click here to see what else is new in EPCOT Now, let’s head to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. 1900 Park Fare is UNDER CONSTRUCTION We learned in early February that 1900 Park Fare would REOPEN for the first time since the COVID-19-related closures back in 2020. 1900 Park Fare previously… We were at the Grand Floridian when we noticed that something was DIFFERENT about the 1900 Park Fare doors. They’re now BLUE and have windows — although they’ve been covered so you can’t see all the construction taking place inside. 1900 Park Fare We think these doors look absolutely STUNNING and can’t wait to visit the restaurant again on April 10th. That’s not the only thing that’s going to be different about the restaurant, though. The character dining experience is also changing with NEW characters. The previous experience had characters like Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Prince Charming, and Winnie the Pooh. The NEW dining experience will bring in Aladdin in his Prince Ali outfit, Cinderella, Mirabel, and Tiana in her new outfit from Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Many fans are on the fence about this change, because they liked meeting the other characters, too. Click here to see what else is new at the Disney World hotels Lastly, let’s head over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom! A baby elephant is now on the loose! (On the savanna.) In December 2023, we saw the first African elephant calf born in Disney World in seven years! Her name is Corra, and she is SO ADORABLE. Her mom is Nadirah, and this is Nadirah’s first baby. And if you want to talk Circle of Life, Nadirah was also born in Animal Kingdom. CUTE. ©DisneyParksBlog Well, Corra is growing up FAST. We’ve been waiting since the day Corra was born to finally be able to see her in the savanna — and now we have that chance! She’ll be on the savanna surrounded by her family and, of course, accompanied by her mom, Nadirah! ©DisneyParksBlog Yes, that means you have a chance of seeing her if you go on Kilimanjaro Safaris in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Click here to see what else is new in Disney’s Animal Kingdom And there you have it! Those are some of our FAVORITE things that happened this week, but exciting things happen in the parks and hotels every single day.
