  1. Y’all, we spotted a change coming to EPCOT and we NEED to give you all of the deets. EPCOT Ah, EPCOT. A place of inspiration, innovation, and, of course — food! From the festivals to the exciting new changes that are slowly being unveiled, it is easy to see why the park is loved by so many. If you’re anything like us, a whole park day is dedicated to EPCOT during your vacation — but we just found a change that is coming to the park that could impact your visit. On April 21st, 2024, EPCOT will be opening late — at 10AM. Generally, EPCOT opens at 9AM each day. So, this could easily throw some folks off if they’re not prepared. Spaceship Earth If you’re a person who feels like they need as much time in the parks as humanly possible (same), keep this in mind when planning out what days you plan to hit the parks. It’s only an hour, but that could be an hour of precious ride time! Cosmic Rewind However, if you’re interested in a more relaxed morning but you still want to rope drop a park that day — this could be good news for you! With the late start, you’ll have time to sleep in, relax, grab some coffee, and then hit the park! Whatever your plan is, just keep this hour change in mind! World Celebration Gardens If you’re interested in park hopping that day, have no fear! Since you can finally park hop all day again, you can always start your day somewhere else and then hop to EPCOT later in the day to maximize your time. Living With The Land Whatever you choose, we hope your day will be amazing! Just be sure to keep this hour change in mind when planning your park days. In the meantime, keep checking in with us at DFB to see what we find next! 18 Disney World Secrets Even Locals Don’t Know How much time do you spend at EPCOT? Let us know in the comments below! 3. My flight almost RUINED the first day of my recent Disney World vacation, and it’s one mistake I will NOT make again. Flights You might think that I’m talking about flight delays or cancelations, and those can certainly put a damper on your vacation plans, but this problem had to do with Disney Genie+! I recently tried to book Genie+ Lightning Lanes while I was in the air on my way to the parks, and next time, I’m planning my flights differently. I’ve always been that person who books the earliest possible flight for a vacation so that I get the whole day at my destination. I WILL wake up at 3AM for a 5AM flight if it means I can have a full day in Magic Kingdom! Wasting an entire day on travel is just not it for me, even if I have to get tons of caffeine and sugar in the parks to make it through that first day without falling asleep on Main Street, U.S.A. Sunrise on a Southwest plane Because of my early flight habit, I’ve frequently found myself in an airplane on the way to Disney World at 7AM. If you’ve used Disney Genie+ or Disney World’s Virtual Queue system before, you know just how important 7AM is! That’s when guests can book their first Genie+ Lightning Lanes and also when you can join the virtual queue for TRON Lightcycle / Run or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, it’s ALSO when you can buy Individual Lightning Lanes. It’s basically the most important time of the day for those planning a Disney World trip. My Disney Experience app All of those things — booking Lightning Lanes, joining virtual queues, and buying Individual Lighting Lanes — rely on your ability to use the My Disney Experience app on your phone. So here’s the problem: Airplane WiFi SUCKS. There. I said it. Airplane I was flying Southwest, but I’ve had friends on other airlines run into the same problem. I purchased the internet on the plane for $8, which is the cost for internet per device from takeoff to landing — that means it’s only good for ONE leg of your trip, so if you’ve got a connecting flight, you only get it for one of those flights. (Note that A-List Preferred Members and Business Select Customers get this WiFi for free on Southwest.) Southwest Airplane The first time I tried this, I was able to book my Lightning Lane just fine! The WiFi ran a little bit slow, but ultimately I didn’t run into any unprecedented problems. The second time, though, was a completely different (and very stressful) story. Although the plane had WiFi — and I purchased it — it simply didn’t work for me. I’d bought Genie+ prior to takeoff (you can buy Genie+ any time on the day of your trip starting at 12AM), but when I went to book Lightning Lanes while we were in the air at 7AM, I just wasn’t able to. Other Disney-bound people on the plane had the same problem and expressed frustration. Boarding Basically, the WiFi on airplanes is just unreliable. And here’s the thing — not all planes even have WiFi available! It’s very possible that you’ll board a flight and the flight attendants will inform you that the plane has no WiFi at all. In that situation — as in the situation where the WiFi didn’t work for me — you’ll just have to wait until you land to book your Lightning Lanes, and some might be completely sold out by that time. Air travel Disney’s virtual queue system is tough to crack even at the best of times, so on airplane WiFi it’s doubly difficult. Only the most popular attractions use virtual queues, which means they fill up FAST, and if you don’t join within seconds, you’re likely to miss out. I don’t even trust Disney WiFi when it comes to virtual queues — I prefer to use my own mobile data instead. On airplane WiFi? I don’t stand a chance. Click here to learn how to use Disney World’s virtual queue system! So What’s the Solution? The easiest solution is, of course, to book a different flight. Make sure you’re on the ground with reliable WiFi at 7AM so that you can book your Genie+ Lightning Lanes and join the virtual queues with no problem. Another solution is to plan your first Disney World day around your flight. You could choose a park that you DON’T want to buy Genie+ for, so that way you’re not worried about booking Lightning Lanes. Lightning Lane at Expedition Everest We usually advise against buying Genie+ for Animal Kingdom (because that park just doesn’t have very many Lighting Lanes available), and Animal Kingdom also doesn’t have any rides that use virtual queues, so it might be a great option for your travel day. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Remember that you can buy Genie+ BEFORE 7AM (any time after 12AM on the day of your visit), but you have to wait until 7AM to start booking Lightning Lanes. 4. Even when you’re in the Most Magical Place on Earth, things can still go wrong. And, when it happens to you — well, it’s a pretty quick way to ruin a trip. Welcome to the Magic Kingdom! From missed flights and reservations to closed attractions and more, it’s always best to expect the unexpected in the parks. If you’re prone to loving water rides or those that can potentially get you wet (looking at you, Pirates of the Caribbean), then you’ve likely been faced with having a wet phone. No problem, right? Just stick it in some rice. Here’s why you might not actually want to do that! Chances are you’ve probably heard that if your phone gets wet, you should put it in rice. Well, according to what Apple shared with USA Today about iPhones in particular, that might not actually be the best option. The site reads: “Don’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Doing so could allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone.” We’re no experts, but we’d imagine this is likely the case with all smartphones. ©Shutterstock So if your iPhone gets wet, here’s what Apple suggests you do: Unplug the cable from your phone and unplug the other end from the power adaptor. Don’t plug it in again until both your phone and cable are dry. Gently tap your phone against your hand with the connector facing down. This will help remove excess liquid. Then leave your phone in a dry area. After 30 minutes, try charging the phone. If you get an alert, leave your phone in a dry area for up to a day and then try to charge it again. If your phone seems dry, but still won’t charge, unplug the cable from the adaptor and the adaptor from the wall and then connect everything again. ©Getty Images But, if you’re really worried about your phone getting wet when you’re in the parks, you can always opt for a waterproof lanyard like this 3-pack! ©Amazon Just stick your phone in the bag and it should keep it mostly dry from splashes! VIEW ON AMAZON Of course, you can always opt for a waterproof phone case like this one, too. ©Amazon That way, you won’t have to fumble with putting your phone into any other contraption since it’s already in one! 5. Do you have a trip planned for Disney World in March? Cinderella Castle Your trip is so close you are probably counting down the days. Transportation, accommodations, and park tickets have probably been settled. You may have even considered purchasing the Disney Dining Plan or ordered Magic Bands for your trip. BUT what about the things you probably did NOT think about?! We aren’t here to bring down the mood, but instead, we are here to remind you of the mistakes to NOT make when visiting Disney World this March. Not Noting Important Dates The 2024 EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival takes place from February 28th to May 27th. This means, that if you plan on visiting EPCOT in March, you might want to plan ahead. There is so much to see and do during this festival that it can get overwhelming. Do not worry! We have plenty of planning resources (like a list of menus for this year’s festival) to help craft a plan before you visit! Woody and Bo Peep Topiaries This festival is a must-do at EPCOT. From tasty eats and fun-themed topiaries, there is something for everyone to enjoy at this festival. While March Madness might not take place at Disney World, it is still important to note the dates. March Madness starts on March 17th and will run until April 8th. So what does this have to do with visiting Disney World? We expect bars and lounges to be pretty full when games are being played. Many bars and lounges on Disney World property have TVs. If you want to watch the tournament play out we suggest watching at City Works or Rix Sports Bar. City Works If basketball is not your thing, it is still important to be aware of potential crowds wanting to see the games. Make sure to make your dining reservations in advance to avoid long wait times, especially on game days. Visiting during Super Crowded Times Not only is March Madness happening, but two holidays take place this March. The first of these is St. Patrick’s Day. This year, St. Patrick’s Day lands on Sunday, March 17th. If you plan to go to the parks on this day, make sure to review the rules of the Park Pass Reservation system. If you are planning on celebrating the holiday, we suggest dining at Raglan Road over in Disney Springs. Don’t forget to make a dining reservation in advance! Raglan Road Along with St. Patrick’s Day, Easter falls on the last weekend of March, with Easter being March 31st. The holidays draw crowds at Disney World. In past years, there has been a special Easter Parade that takes place in Magic Kingdom only on Easter Weekend. If you want a chance at seeing it, make sure you are all squared away on your Park Pass Reservation. Magic Kingdom’s Easter Parade 2023 Not only are the Holidays a busy time at Disney World, but there are certain weekends were ESPN Wide World of Sports hosts special events. In March ESPN Wide World of Sports will be hosting The Quest Championship from March 8th-9th along with the 2024 UCA All-Star National Championship from March 9th-10th. The final event for the month is Disney Spring Training which runs from March 11th all the way until April 7th. Mickey at ESPN Wide World of Sports If you find yourself attending one of these events this year, you can check out the ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill. Counting on Closed Attractions While the walls have been coming down around EPCOT, there are still closures to be aware of during March. So far three attractions will not be available to guests. The Country Bear Jamboree over in Magic Kingdom will remain closed until the summer of 2024. Over in Animal Kingdom, Kali River Rapids will remain closed until mid-March. Finally, in Hollywood Studios, Rockin’ Rollercoaster Staring Aerosmith will be closed. It is anticipated to re-open in the summer of 2024. Country Bear Jamboree is CLOSED! If you are staying on property, going to the pool is a huge perk to have. Unfortunately, during the colder months, Disney tends to do maintenance on the different resort pools. If you are staying at Disney’s All-Star Movies resort, the Fantasia pool will be closed through April. Over at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, The Fuentes del Morro pool will be closed through March. And finally, the Doubloon Lagoon over at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort- French Quarter will also be closed through April. Fuentes del Morro pool Hopefully, these reminders will help you have a successful and fun trip this March at Disney World! Want to Skip Lines during the Holidays at Disney World? 6. On the hunt for the PERFECT Disney World souvenir? You and thousands of other visitors! Welcome to the Emporium! It can be such a challenge to know what to spend your souvenir money on when you finally make it to the parks, and if you’re visiting with a limited budget, the is particularly stressful. You could go with classics like Minnie ears, Loungefly backpacks, Spirit Jerseys, or mugs, but why not choose something a bit more unique? We’re here to tell you about the PERFECT Disney World souvenir. Have you ever had a silhouette made in Disney World? This classic souvenir has been around for decades, but it often gets overlooked as an option. Center Street Portrait Cart Over the years, we’ve seen people get silhouettes made of their family, friends, children, and even their pets! You either need to be present for the portrait session or have a photo of the person (or pet) who you’d like a silhouette made of. Silhouettes These incredible artists will cut the silhouettes freehand using just a pair of scissors. It’s an incredibly difficult skill to master, and it’s such a unique keepsake to have from your vacation. We’ve even seen Disney offer seasonal silhouettes in the past! Halloween Silhouettes Prices for an individual silhouette start at $11.99 and there are several places you can get one done in Disney World. Magic Kingdom has two locations — one on Center Street (off of Main Street, U.S.A. right outside the Crystal Arts shop) and one in Liberty Square. There are also silhouette stands in Disney Springs in The Marketplace area and at EPCOT in the France Pavilion. In Disneyland, the Silhouette Studio is located on Main Street, U.S.A. This original Disney location opened just one day after the park did, back in 1955. One of the silhouette artists in Disneyland! So the next time you’re searching for a unique souvenir, try getting a silhouette made! They’re definitely on the less expensive end for Disney keepsakes, and they’re a great way to capture a memory from your trip. 7. Ahoy, skippers! Have you been overlooking an underrated restaurant at Disney World? Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland Magic Kingdom is home to some great eats (and some not-so-great ones) — this we already knew. But have you been sleeping on an underrated gem at The Most Magical Place on Earth? We’ve been asking ourselves that question after taking a closer look at Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen. We’ve enjoyed Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen in the past, but does it hold up? Read below to find out! Skipper Canteen We headed over to Adventureland to visit to conduct a new review, and we think our opinions could help you the next time you decide where you’d like to eat at Magic Kingdom. Let’s take a look! Atmosphere Skipper Canteen Based on the incredibly popular Jungle Cruise ride, Skipper Canteen provides an adventurous dining environment with a punny twist. The lore behind the restaurant is that it started as a tropical headquarters that allowed skippers to rest before their next adventure. Dr. Albert Falls The restaurant features three different rooms: the crew’s colonial-era Mess Hall, Dr. Albert Fall’s Jungle Room, and the once-secret Society of Explorers and Adventurers meeting room. Skipper Canteen table Full of Jungle Cruise Easter eggs and homages, Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen is a MUST-TRY if you’re a fan of the ride. Menus Drink and appetizer menu The Skipper Canteen gets a bit more exotic than your typical American and theme park fare, but its menu is still eclectic enough to likely satisfy adventurous and picky eaters. Here, you can find African, Asian, and Latin dishes in addition to specialty cocktails, beer, and wine. Skipper Canteen entree menu The menu is certainly elevated for theme park food. From house-made corn pancakes and beer-braised pork appetizers to marinated grilled steak and sustainable fish entrees, Skipper Canteen offers more refined, yet casual cuisine. The kids’ menu even ranges from safe picks like mac & cheese to more out-there choices like coconut curry. We’ve long been impressed with the menu, but does it still taste good? Drinks House-made Skipper Sangria First up, we tried the House-made Skipper Sangria, which comes with your choice of red or white wine blended with juices, spices, and fruit. We tried the white wine version and we found it to be very light and fruity. We thought it was a safe choice — not the best but also not the worst Sangria at the Walt Disney World Resort. Overall, we think the drink menu is pretty safe, and while it may not blow you away, it is pretty good and shouldn’t be a concern if you’re in the mood for cocktails. Eats Cheese bread!!! We started off the eats with a secret menu item — Cheese Bread! A fun take on Brazilian pão de queijo, this cheese bread comes with a chimichurri sauce on the side. On it’s own, we LOVED the bread, and mixed with the sauce, we thought it was even better! Light and flavorful, we can’t recommend the Cheese Bread enough! A bit of warning, however, the sauce does have a bit of kick so expect that if you decide to dip the bread. Mess Hall Fried Rice Speaking of spicy, next we tried the Mess Hall Fried Rice, which comes with spicy chili-garlic shrimp served over pork fried rice with eggs and peas. Unfortunately, we couldn’t taste much spice! In fact, we couldn’t taste most of the pork and garlic flavors aside from a salty soy sauce flavor. As for the portion size, we found it to be better suited as a one-person entree instead of a shared appetizer. “Hardy Har Char” Siu Pork The first entree we tried was the “Hardy Har Char” Siu Pork. This meal comes with a char siu-marinated pork tenderloin served with house-pickled vegetables and jasmine rice. Once again, if you like soy sauce, you’ll likely love this dish, as that was the first flavor we discovered on the first bite. The pork itself was very juicy with a sweet soy sauce flavor profile. We find the rice to be pretty on par with basic jasmine rice — nothing that truly separates itself but not bad. We were big fans of the vegetables, which had a great texture and were very well-seasoned. Overall, we would definitely get this entree again and recommend trying it! Baa Baa Lamb Chops The other entree we tried was the Baa Baa Lamb Chops, which comes with spice-rubbed lamb chops, chermoula, cauliflower, potatoes, cipollini onions, harissa sauce, and garnished with preserved lemons and herbs. We LOVED these lamb chops and found them to be truly exceptional! The harissa sauce is akin to a peppery siracha with a moderate kick and our vegetables were perfectly cooked to make a nicely balanced dish. The star of the plate, however, is the lamb of course! The preserved lemons and herbs around the edge add a great flavor and crispiness to the lamb. Kungaloosh! For dessert, we tried the Kungaloosh!, an African-inspired chocolate cake with caramelized bananas served with cashew-caramel ice cream and topped with coffee dust. Folks, this is a BIG WINNER! The flavors that stood out the most were caramel and cashew from the ice cream and the chocolate cake. The caramelization of the bananas also provided a fantastic crunch and, overall, the texture of the Kungaloosh was kind of like a colder molten lava cake. While we wish we got more of that coffee flavor, there really wasn’t anything we disliked about this dessert! Overall While Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen is not among the best restaurants at Disney World, we think it’s definitely fair to say that it IS one of the best table-service options at Magic Kingdom and one we plan on frequenting again and again and again! The pricing is fair, the waitstaff is INCREDIBLE, the atmosphere is unmatched, and the food is pretty tasty! We’re happy to report that even in 2024, Skipper Canteen still holds up! 2021 Skipper Canteen Poll Results If you’re looking for an escape from the run-of-the-mill theme park food and want a sit-down experience that focuses on savory eats, we think you should give Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen a try! Nosh or Not? Make Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen one of your destinations if… You’re looking for a fair-priced table service restaurant at Magic Kingdom. You’re looking to get a break from the park while you immerse yourself in an adventurous and pun-filled atmosphere. You’re craving African, Asian, or South American cuisine. You have an appetite for savory eats. IF YOU LOVE THE JUNGLE CRUISE! Give this tropical hideaway a pass if… You’d rather save time on a quick service meal. You don’t like heavily Asian-inspired flavors. You’re looking for even more adventurous food. We think the food here is very good, but a bit more tame than it promised to be. 9. As much as we love the Disney World of the past, it’s the exciting changes and innovations that keep us coming back to the parks. Animal Kingdom Disney has recently announced a TON of theme park expansion plans — from new lands in Disneyland and Tokyo Disney to more than one expansion in Disney World — we’re excited about them all. But, if you ask us, there’s one update in particular that we can’t wait for! In September 2023, Disney dropped some MAJOR hints about what’s next for Disney World — including some serious updates in Animal Kingdom. We’re talking Pandora: World of Avatar-sized updates. That’s right — we’re talking about a potential Encanto and Indiana Jones land in Animal Kingdom. ©Disney Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro shared that Disney is “building on what makes Animal Kingdom so, so special” with The Tropical Americas! New experiences inspired by Encanto and the fan-favorite character Indiana Jones are “being considered” for what is currently DinoLand, U.S.A. Imagineers have taken inspiration from some of the most biodiverse areas on the planet in the regions just north and south of the equator here in the Western Hemisphere, including the northern part of South America, stretching up into Central America. DinoLand, U.S.A. Disney shared concept art of this potential new land, and we’ve taken a deep dive into what might be coming. We know that there are plans for Casa Madrigal based on the art, and what looks like some sort of boat ride. Fans of the film know that the house can change shape and look different on a whim, which would make for an interesting ride full of potential hijinks. Casita Of course, this is Animal Kingdom, and with Disney getting inspiration from the Tropical Americas, it would make sense for more animal exhibits to be included in this expansion. Just think about all the different animals that could join the park. Disney could even incorporate Antonio’s gift of talking to animals into the experience. DinoLand As far as the Indiana Jones part of this expansion is concerned, well, there’s one theory we’re REALLY hoping comes true — that the Indy-themed ride in Disneyland will finally come to Disney World. In fact, it uses the same track system as DINOSAUR, which is currently in DinoLand anyway. It likely wouldn’t take a full demolition of the current ride to make this part of the expansion happen! Indiana Jones Adventure ride in DIsneyland We know this means the end of DinoLand, U.S.A. as we know it, but many folks feel this area is underutilized and a bit outdated. It’s possible that this expansion would breathe some new life into Animal Kingdom and convince people it’s more than a “half-day park!” Indiana Jones Adventure Stay tuned to DFB as we continue to bring you the latest updates on Disney park expansions and more. 11. We’ve all been there. What do you think is proper plane etiquette? We’re no strangers to traveling by plane, but we got the insight from the experts — flight attendants — on the worst things you can do on an airplane! Flying can be stressful; sometimes, humans add to that stress. But, we can all work together to try and make things just a bit easier on each other… Have you flown lately? …and we can do that by NEVER doing these things on a plane. Play Media Out Loud One of the most important rules of flying is to just be respectful of others — and that also applies to playing media out loud. Whether it’s music or podcast, a movie or the latest show, or even a game, the best thing you can do is to use headphones or earbuds. The people around you are most likely just trying to relax and do their own thing, and hearing someone else’s phone blasting the latest Harry Styles song probably doesn’t help (though, tbh, we probably wouldn’t mind that…)! Enjoy your music or movie to your heart’s content…just with your headphones in please! This is also true for most kids with tablets or other similar devices — no one (and we mean no one) wants to hear Cocomelon playing incessantly before or during a flight. If your kiddo is old enough to use a tablet, they’re old enough for headphones in most cases. Our Best Tips For Flying Through the Orlando International Airport Argue with Airline Staff Quite possibly, the most important thing to remember when you’re on a flight is to listen to flight attendants and the pilots. They’re trained in various situations and know how to help keep you safe. This also applies to the airline staff at the airport as well! Mickey and Minnie So, please, whatever you do when you’re flying — do your best NOT argue with flight attendants or airline staff. Airlines are private businesses, meaning they can keep you from flying for pretty much any reason they want. You wouldn’t want to miss your chance to meet Mickey and Minnie in Disney World, would you?! It’s also important to pay attention to the safety briefing and not interrupt or be a distraction to others. You may have heard it a thousand times, but that doesn’t mean the people around don’t need to hear it. And by all means, don’t tell your flight attendant to smile during the safety briefing. The levels of wrong with this behavior are too numerous to count! 21 Things a Former Flight Attendant Needs You To Know Talking on Speaker Phone We get it. There are last-minute details that you may have to sort through, unplanned emergencies that may have popped up, and countless other reasons why you might need to be on your phone to address urgent situations (or even just to tell your kids or spouse goodbye one last time). But keep personal conversations — personal. Airplane Use your earbuds, headphones, or that old fashioned method of actually putting the phone to your ear to finish these conversations when you’re on the plane. Your conversation might be super important to you, but no one else on the plane really wants to hear it. It’s disruptive, distracting, and pretty inconsiderate when you’re sharing such a small and confined space with so many people. Air Travel Tips That Will Change Your Life Put Your Bare Feet on the Armrest in Front of You Well, here we are, folks. We’ve reached the point of no return. Never did we think we’d actually need to say this particular piece of advice out loud, but…PLEASE, no matter what — do NOT but your bare feet on the armrest in front of you. Honestly, if you can help it, maybe don’t take your shoes of at all? Just a thought. Maybe we should be sticking dryer sheets in OUR shoes?? And WHATEVER you do, please don’t go to the bathroom barefoot on an airplane, ever. People don’t have great aim (whether accidentally or on purpose), and the chances that you’re stepping in dried or wet urine are probably pretty high. It’s straight-up gross. Do Us All a Favor and Don’t Do THIS at Disney World Going to the Bathroom Barefoot Yep, we have two barefoot warnings in a row. We’re not sure how society got to this place, but we’ll have that hard conversation with you about wearing proper attire. ©️Kevork Djansezian/Getty | Obtained via Business Insider Again, there could be several reasons why people are tempted to (or perhaps medically need to) take their shoes off on a flight. But please do so with courtesy to those around you. Make sure your feet, socks, and shoes are clean and odor-free (there are plenty of sprays and powders out there to help with this!). And this is actually more for YOUR benefit than ours. Please don’t use the public airplane restrooms barefoot. There are so many germs in those rooms and we really don’t even want to think about what the person in that bathroom before you did. Bring slider sandals or something to slide on before using those teeny, tiny, germy bathrooms! Delta Airlines Reveals NEW Seats in Their Boeing Aircraft and We LOVE Them! Inconsiderate Overhead Bin Usage There are some unspoken rules about Overhead Bin courtesy. It’s a community space for everyone to share. Use the bin near or over your seat. Overhead bins are for larger bags or items, while smaller times (backpacks, purses, etc) should be stored under the seat in front of you Don’t force a bag that’s too big. Allow other passengers to store their larger bags before using leftover bin space for smaller items (like purses or jackets) Don’t abuse bin access — have what you plan to use during your flight with you at your seat so you don’t have to disrupt others to get into your bag. Wait your turn to unload — unless you have a razor-thin connection to make, wait until the rows in front of you clear out before lunging for your bag and the aisle. Hope your next flight is stinky feet free! At the end of the day, though, the most important thing to remember when you’re on a plane or traveling is to just be respectful and mindful of everyone else around you! Everyone is just trying to get to where they’re going, and that can happen a lot faster if there aren’t kerfuffles on the plane. Just sit back, try to relax, and remember that you’re not the only one on that plane! If you want to do some planning before your flight (or even on the plane!), check out our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining. 16. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) to tout the district’s accomplishments in the midst of multiple lawsuits with Disney. Disney vs. DeSantis The CFTOD lawsuit followed Disney’s suit against the Board and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The Board officially filed its own suit in May 2023 and Disney filed a countersuit in August. It was later revealed that the DeSantis-appointed district had not searched for documents requested in the lawsuit, and the governor held a press conference in an attempt to save face. In a press conference hosted by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District on February 22nd, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis accused the former Disney-controlled Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) of having “unbelievable and unprecedented” power. Obtained via ClickOrlando Livestream When asked about the special district, DeSantis commented that it wasn’t a question of a special district but of the RCID in particular, as it was “given authority that would be unconstitutional” under Florida’s current constitution. He continued, saying that the reason this happened was because the Florida legislature gave Reedy Creek too much authority. ©Governor Ron DeSantis Website DeSantis commented that Disney was “very devious” with how they set the district up and would “control the people who lived there at their courtesy.” Ultimately, DeSantis claimed he was there to “highlight an example of good government and positive government reform,” noting that it had been almost a year since legislation was signed “to bring an end to an anomaly of local government.” Cinderella Castle This local government, DeSantis said, was created to help facilitate the development of both a theme park and a community — a community that was never developed, according to him. Disney was granted a special district that was part of a plan including building a residential community, and that residential community was supposed to run, maintain, and vote for local municipalities through elected officials like a mayor or city commissioner. ©Governor Ron DeSantis Website But, this didn’t happen, and Disney maintained control of the district in a way that wasn’t originally intended when it was first established. It’s this, DeSantis said, that makes the former Reedy Creek district “unconstitutional.” Ultimately, we’ll still have to wait and see how this will all play out for Disney and DeSantis, as things are still tied up in the courts. 19. Disney has announced that they have big plans for the current theme parks plus a $60 billion investment plan for expansion. Disney World entrance sign $60 billion is a big chunk of money, so what exactly is Disney planning to do? We have heard of the Blue Sky projects that were mentioned at D23 as well as DisneylandForward. We know that Walt Disney once said “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world”, but what exactly could this mean for the future expansion of the parks? It might not be exactly what you are thinking! With Universal Orlando building a new theme park, you would think Disney World would be right behind them to announce a fifth theme park for Walt Disney World in Florida. Some are speculating otherwise. Cinderella Castle Last fall Disney told us that according to their internal research “there is an addressable market of more than 700 million people with high Disney affinity it has yet to reach with its Parks. In fact, for every one guest who visits a Disney Park, there are more than ten people with Disney affinity who do not visit the parks.” This has us wondering if Disney will try to tap into a new market across the globe. Crowds We have some speculations that a new theme park in India might happen over a fifth gate at Disney World. We have a few pieces of evidence to help back this theory up. Disney acquired Fox for $71 billion back in 2019. Within this deal, Disney also took over Star India Network along with the streaming platform, Hotstar. With this acquisition, Disney gained access to a new market and an audience of over 700 million people in India. ©Disney This new acquisition did not start out the way the company had hoped. Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, shared that certain aspects of business in India have been a challenge. In 2022, Mukesh Ambani got the rights to the Indian Premier League cricket matches, which draw in a large audience. While this was a setback, it has been reported that Reliance Industries (which Ambani is the chairman and managing director of) is currently talking to Disney about possibly merging. CNN has speculated that the merger could take place soon. This merger could help Disney recover the audience that it had previously lost in India. ©Disney Bob Iger has said that Disney is “looking… expansively” in India and “considering our options there.” CNN and industry insiders think that the deal between Disney and Reliance could create a powerful couple that “goes beyond media, with industry insiders speculating about a combined push into theme parks.” When the $60 billion expansion plan as announced, Disney released this map which showed where its “addressable market” lives. Notice that the biggest population of people with a Disney affinity who do not visit the parks is in Asia. ©Disney While this may seem like a stretch, Disney has been looking into other markets to visit their theme parks. For example, Disney recently sent Mickey and Minnie to Canada to encourage Canadians to visit Disney World. This invite includes 20% off of five-day or longer tickets to Disney World. This offer is good from now until September 28th, 2024. ©Disney With all of this being said, Disney has a large chunk of money to use to expand. While this money could go toward a fifth gate at Disney World, it is too early to rule out the possibility of a new park in India. We will be sure to keep you updated as more details are unveiled! 20. There’s a NEW ride coming to Disney World in 2024! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure model at the D23 Expo in 2022 Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is under construction in Magic Kingdom, set to open this summer. This new Princess and the Frog-themed attraction is replacing the former Splash Mountain, and we’ve already seen some sneak peeks at the new animatronics and details that will adorn the mountain. But in the past few days, we got our first look (in person!) at the ride vehicles! Ride vehicles have been testing recently at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and from our video footage, it looks like the Splash Mountain characters have been removed from the front of the logs! For reference, here’s a photo from before Splash Mountain closed. The logs used to have little figures of Br’er Rabbit attached to the hood. Old Splash Mountain ride vehicles Currently, there’s just a blank spot where Br’er Rabbit used to stand. We spotted the vehicles lined up at the bottom of the mountain a few days ago and were able to get a closer look. The updated ride vehicles Now that the characters have been removed, we’re left wondering if Disney will replace them for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Could we see one of the critters from the new ride at the front of the boats now? Or will the boats remain bare? Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney We already know that there will be several characters throughout the ride, including some bayou critters and Princess and the Frog friends like Tiana, Naveen, and Louis. Disney recently shared a first look at the new Tiana animatronic. ©Disney The story of the ride will be a sequel to the movie, and you’ll “join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” ©Disney The height requirement will be 40 inches, and in true Disney fashion, there will be some Splash Mountain Easter eggs throughout the ride as a nod to Tiana’s predecessor. 21. Listen, we know some folks are afraid to fly, but we have to admit we never expected to have to worry about this airplane problem. ©Delta If you’re planning on flying soon, we don’t mean to alarm you, but we definitely have a new fear when it comes to flying (and no, it’s not one of the doors flying off, although that’s up there, too). It’s maggots. According to Fox Business, a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit went terribly wrong and had to turn around an hour into the flight after MAGGOTS FELL ONTO PASSENGERS from an overhead bin. Does this type of terror sound familiar to anyone? Maybe a certain 2006 film that would fit if you replaced the word “maggots” with “snakes?” No? Okay, moving on. ©Delta Yes, you unfortunately read that right. On Delta Flight DL133, a suitcase containing rotten fish (WHO let that through security? WHO?!) burst open in the overhead bin during the flight and dropped MAGGOTS onto the passengers in Economy seats below. ©Delta When the plane landed and all passengers had exited, the cabin was cleaned thoroughly, and the suitcase was put into a bag to be burned (as it deserves to be). But what about the owner of the suitcase, you ask? Don’t worry — they were identified on the plane and detained after all other passengers had disembarked. However, it’s unclear if any action was taken against the passenger. ©Getty Images Those who had been given new, unending nightmares by the maggots were given “8,000 air miles, hotel room compensation and a $30 meal ticket” if they were going to be delayed overnight. A few travelers have chimed in online to share their experience on the flight, one of them sharing they were in the row directly in front of the maggots, and the poor woman underneath them told the Flight Attendant they were falling on her head. The commenter shared that she could see them wiggling around on the seat. ©Getty Images Now we can’t get that mental image out of our own minds, and we’re sure you’re in the same boat, our bad, but we have SO MANY QUESTIONS! Was the fish already bad before being put in the bag? How long was it in the bag? WHY WAS IT IN THE BAG IN THE FIRST PLACE (especially wrapped in newspaper, according to one of the passengers on board)? How was the suitcase so full it BURST open during the flight? ©Getty Images Unfortunately (or fortunately? We don’t really know), we’ll likely never know the answer to these questions, but you know those wild questions you ask yourself right before you go through security? Like, “what if I packed a weapon I don’t own?” or “what if someone snuck something into my bag that’s been right next to me this whole time?” Now we have another question to add and ponder over — “Did I pack some raw fish that I don’t own and haven’t properly stored and it’ll drop maggots over everyone like that other flight?” It will haunt us forever, and we weren’t even THERE. ©Getty Images We’re always here to keep you updated on all the important news (and horrifying stories too, because why not) when it comes to travel, so stay tuned to DFB! 22. The Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival is coming up soon! 2023 Food and Wine Tasting Passport This is THE food festival you’ll want to attend on the West Coast. The festival features food and beverage seminars and demonstrations, as well as special souvenirs, and — of course — loads of food booths. Well, there’s another super exciting thing coming to the festival in 2024, and it’s one of our FAVORITE Disney World eats! Thanks to DFB Reader @just_ask_danny on X for pointing this out. So here’s the thing: the California Craft Brews food booth at the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival will be offering a NEW menu item this year: Cheeseburger Bao with Thousand Island dressing, grilled onions, pickle, and tomato relish. ©Disney If that sounds familiar, that’s because this is nearly identical to our beloved Cheeseburger Pods at Satu’li Canteen in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Disney World! Those are Steamed Cheeseburger Pods stuffed with Ground Beef, Ketchup, Mustard, Pickle, and Cheddar Cheese. Cheeseburger Pods There’s just one catch about the Cheeseburger Bao/Pods being available in Disneyland: Right now, they’re only available during the festival, which starts on March 1st and runs through April 22nd. So if you’ve never had a chance to try this delicious snack and have plans to visit Disneyland during that time, we recommend grabbing them when you can! Who knows? Maybe they’ll be so popular that they’ll end up on a menu somewhere after the festival! Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney food news! 24. Disney has been Celebrating Soulfully all month with some new snacks and special events, and we’ve been loving it! Celebrate Soulfully Gospel in Disneyland While the East Coast has had some pretty amazing snacks, don’t discount Disneyland! We headed over to try yet ANOTHER new sweet snack, and this one was really a winner. This whole dish was served chilled, so the marshmallow topping was melted but served cold. It had a sweet marshmallow flavor followed by a buttery, nutty pecan flavor. The inside texture was kind of like a baked potato! Sweet Potato Pecan Pie This treat is just like your classic Thanksgiving side dish — the sweet potato flavor was pretty basic, and the additional marshmallow and pecan flavors and textures took it to the next level. If you’ve had sweet potato casserole, this dish will be very familiar to you! SOO good! This treat is simple but SO delicious. If you’re a fan of sweet potato, marshmallows, and pecans, head on over and grab this slice of heaven! More Celebrate Soulfully News! 25. We’re always talking about the cool recreational things you can do at your Disney World hotel, but did you know you can ride an actual Disney horse? Disney horse There’s been a lot of attention focused on the new cabins at Fort Wilderness and when they’ll be available to book soon. But don’t forget that there’s so much more to this awesome resort than just those new rooms! If you’ve ever found yourself swooning over those beautiful white ponies that pull Cinderella’s carriage or mesmerized by the horses that pull the Main Street trolly cars down Main Street, U.S.A., have we got the activity for you! Our latest adventure at Disney World had us exploring the great outdoors and all the recreational offerings that they have to offer. We found ourselves at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort to take in the sights and sounds of the natural vibes and enjoy a change of pace. Welcome to Fort Wilderness This hotel and campground really has something for everyone! This whole property pays homage to the pioneer spirit. You can find yourself in a wilderness cabin, pitching a tent to get an authentic camping out experience, and enjoying a campfire singalong with Chip ‘n Dale. This resort is also home to Disney’s only dinner show currently running (and we’re quite fond of it)! Campfire Sing-A-Long However, we recently had a chance to try out something different and exciting at Disney World that wasn’t a new ride. We were invited out for an early morning horseback trail ride at the Tri-Circle D Ranch. Tri-Circle D Ranch trail rides These recreational rides are hosted here at the hotel and campground and are offered at various times throughout the day. You can book these recreational rides on the My Disney Experience app or by calling Disney directly to make a reservation. The trail guides will offer to take photos of you before you start your journey, after you’ve mounted your horse, and before you dismount — these pics can make for some great mementos to remember this experience by! Such a fun experience This was certainly a unique experience that we will remember for decades to come, and it was such a smooth process from check-in to saying our goodbyes. As we mentioned before, reservations can be made in advance but they’re not opposed to taking walk-ups if you’re just learning about their horseback trail rides and space is available. We would highly recommend this experience for someone who’s an avid equine or animal lover in general, and if you’re looking for a nice “change of pace” type of experience that you didn’t know you could get at Disney World. However, if you’re someone who’s not a total fan of being outdoors (and potentially exposed to that liquid Florida “sunshine” aka rain), it might not be the right fit for you. We’re always looking for the best experiences you can have while on your Disney World vacation so be sure to stay tuned with us for even more recreational options that can enhance your vacation! 4 HUGE Disney World Announcements That Are Flying Under the Radar (But Shouldn’t Be) Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox!
