  3. Disney has shared that expansions are on the way to the theme parks. Disneyland The international parks have been having great success with their new additions like World of Frozen and Zootopia Land. But the U.S. parks will be seeing some love too! Disney announced that they plan to spend A LOT of money on expansions and experiences in the next 10 years. One of those projects is one you may have heard about before — the Disneyland Forward project. Disney has been working hard to make these plans a reality to bring more experiences to Disneyland. Well now, the expansion project has just taken a huge leap in the right direction! Disneyland Forward is the large expansion proposal that Disney has been working on in Anaheim, California. The idea is that Disney wants to change areas that were traditionally zoned for specific uses such as hotels or parking lots. The way the zones are designed currently, Disney cannot use zones that are specified districts for anything other than what it’s zoned for. Simply said, Disney is looking for flexibility to use its own land for what they want not just what the zone specifies. Where We’ve Been, Where We’re At, and Where We’re Going ©Disney The company is not looking to use public funding, but it needs approval from the City of Anaheim to be able to create these “mixed” zones. Disney shared on their website, that while they have “the development rights and the desire to continue investing in Anaheim, the space to develop innovative attractions and immersive experiences is severely limited.” They need the ability to broaden “the uses allowed within each district” otherwise they will have to demolish and replace existing attractions to continue developing. ©Disney One of the biggest hoops Disneyland Forward needed to jump through was the Anaheim Planning Commission meeting. Disney needed the Planning Commission to approve the recommendation that the plans move forward to Anaheim City Council. This meeting took place on March 11th, 2024. The second topic on the agenda at this meeting was the Disneyland Forward plan, and this one proposal lasted over 5 HOURS before a vote was cast. ©Disney Disney representatives spoke on the topic as well as rebuttals and private residents. It was the comments against the project and some wandering questions by Commissioner Luisandres Perez that caused the meeting to extend into its 6th hour. Uses and Approvals Even though several individuals spoke against the project, the Commissioners ended up having full intent to move the project forward to the City Council. The long night ended after 11 PM PT with a 5-1 vote to recommend the project to move forward. The sole “no” vote was given by Perez after he expressed that he forgot to cancel his Disneyland park reservation for that evening. via Planning Commission meeting video on YouTube In the end, it is a happy day for Disney fans! The Disneyland Forward project moves one step closer to being approved. If the project receives approval, Disney has shared that new park attractions, shopping, dining, and entertainment may come to the Disneyland Resort. We’ll be keeping a close eye out for more Disneyland Forward news. 4. Every time we come back from a Disney World vacation, we say that we need another vacation to actually recover from the exhausting chaos that is a Disney trip. Waking up early for rope drop, walking 20,000+ steps every day, and going on thrill ride after thrill ride definitely takes its toll, and by the end of our trip, we’re usually completely wiped out. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Disney World) Some of the tiring realities of Disney World are unavoidable (we’re probably not going to stop waking up early to be some of the first people on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train!), but there’s one bad habit that experts say makes exhaustion so much WORSE, and once you know what it is, it’s actually so easy to fix. The Bad Habit: Not Drinking Enough Water In all of our research, experts across the field (doctors, scientists, various professionals with lots of letters after their names, etc.) agreed that not drinking water can certainly lead to exhaustion and frequently cause other bad side effects as well. Hydrate early and often If you read that and immediately felt guilty, just know that you’re not alone. We are also so guilty of forgetting to drink water while we’re walking around the parks! It’s easy to get caught up in the moment as you’re rushing to the next ride or taking in all the cool ambiance of the parks and forget to stop and grab some H2O. But there are some very good reasons why you should really work to break the bad habit of not staying hydrated. What Happens When You Don’t Drink Enough Water Dr. Marjan Moghaddam, D.O., discussed some of the side effects of dehydration with Henry Ford Health. They said, “If you’re not replenishing your fluid intake, your energy levels could plummet and you could experience fatigue and brain fog. So the next time you reach for another cup of coffee, see if it’s water that you need instead.” Get some water with your coffee! To us, “dehydration” sounds more severe than “not drinking enough water,” but in our research, we found that most experts agree that as soon as you feel thirsty, you’re dehydrated. Listen to your body! It’s telling you what you need. But WHY does dehydration make you feel tired? According to the Health Care Associates of Texas, it’s a sort of domino effect that happens inside your body. When you’re not putting enough fluid into your body, your blood volume decreases, and that decrease in volume puts extra pressure on your heart to deliver oxygen and other nutrients to your organs, including your muscles. In other words, you’re making your heart work harder, and much-needed nutrients aren’t getting to your muscles as quickly, and that makes you feel tired as your body tries to work overtime to make up for it. ©Disney In addition to fatigue, you could experience headaches and migraines. Dr. Moghaddam said, “One of the first things you might notice when you’re dehydrated is a throbbing headache. The good news? If dehydration is the cause, it should go away shortly after you drink a large glass of water.” Free Cups of Water The Mayo Clinic also warned about possible heat injury that could occur due to dehydration: “If you don’t drink enough fluids when you’re exercising vigorously and perspiring heavily, you may end up with a heat injury, ranging in severity from mild heat cramps to heat exhaustion or potentially life-threatening heatstroke.” Now we know the problem, so what’s the solution? More water, of course! How Much Water Should You Drink? The Mayo Clinic says that the average, healthy man should get about 15.5 cups of fluids a day, and the average, healthy woman should get about 11.5 cups per day. Water is Free in Disney The exact amount of water you should be drinking depends on a lot of factors, like your weight, exercise habits, other medical conditions, etc., but a decent rule of thumb is to drink eight eight-ounce glasses of water per day, or about 64 ounces of water. Where To Get Water in Disney World Water is readily available in Disney World! You can get free cups of ice water at any quick service restaurant — just go up to a Cast Member and ask! Stay hydrated, folks! If you bring your own water bottle, you can refill it at any of the many water bottle refill stations throughout the parks and hotels. Water Bottle Refill Station Disney recently added a new feature to the My Disney Experience app that allows you to search for those refill stations and locate the one closest to you, which makes it even easier to stay hydrated! ©Disney Water is also free at the table service restaurants, of course, so make sure you’re hydrating while you eat, too. Another Dangerous Disney World Habit: Staying Out in the Heat for Too Long Another problematic habit that’s easy to fall into at Disney World is staying out in the heat for too long. Orlando gets HOT, so you need to listen to your body and take frequent breaks inside the A/C to cool off. Crowds in Magic Kingdom The science behind this problem is similar to the reason why you get tired from dehydration. Dr. Michele Casey (medical director at Duke Health in North Carolina) told the Scientific American, “Your body, especially in the sun, has to work hard to maintain a consistent, normal, internal temperature.” The extra work it has to do makes you feel more tired. Some of the adjustments your body does to cool off include dilating blood vessels and secreting sweat, which require your heart to work harder, thus making you feel lethargic. Sunset Boulevard To combat the side effects of being outside in the heat too long, make sure you’re taking lots of breaks. An easy way to do that is to head to an indoor attraction. Hall of Presidents in Magic Kingdom is a good, long break in the A/C, and it rarely has a line! Even the waiting area is air-conditioned. Hall of Presidents Here are some other indoor attractions (with indoor or mostly indoor queues) that provide a good break from the heat: Magic Kingdom: Pirates of the Caribbean, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Under the Sea Journey of the Little Mermaid, Haunted Mansion, and Mickey’s Philharmagic EPCOT: The American Adventure, Awesome Planet, Beauty and the Beast Singalong, Disney Pixar Short Film Festival, Spaceship Earth, Frozen Ever After, and The Seas with Nemo and Friends Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Star Tours, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-a-Long, MuppetVision 3D, and Walt Disney Presents Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Avatar: Flight of Passage, DINOSAUR, Festival of the Lion King, and Finding Nemo: The Big Blue … and Beyond It’s easy to get distracted in Disney World and forget these simple rules, but don’t let yourself fall into these bad habits while you’re there! Remembering to listen to your body, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks in the A/C will make your vacation so much better. 7. Today, March 5th, is an exciting day in Disney World, specifically at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort! Disney’s Grand Floridian Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is home to some shining stars in terms of places to eat in Disney World. You can get a world-class meal at Victoria & Albert’s, celebrate a special event at Citricos, go out for date night at Narcoossee’s, or grab and go from Gasparilla Island Grill. But one very special dining location has yet to re-open since its closure in 2020 — 1900 Park Fare. Now that’s soon to change! The character restaurant is set to re-open on April 10th, and Disney just shared NEW details! We’ve been watching and waiting for 1900 Park Fare to reopen its (new) doors. It’s so exciting to think it will be opening to welcome you in again soon! March 5th marked the first day that you could make reservations for the restaurant, but open reservations weren’t the only big news we got. 1900 Park Fare When we popped over to make our dining reservations, we learned the new pricing for this character buffet! Adult meals are pricd at $54 per person, while children’s meals are priced at $34 each for ages 3-9. ©Disney So far, Disney has only released pricing for the breakfast meal and has yet to confirm the pricing for dinner. You will also be able to use the Disney Dining Plan to pay for your meals at 1900 Park Fare, and character buffets can be a good use of credits if you were already planning to enjoy one. Disney shared that you’ll get to meet characters like Aladdin as Prince Ali, Tiana, Cinderella, and Mirabelle. ©Disney Disney has teased that a fan-favorite menu item, Strawberry Soup, would be returning. We also spotted items like Eggs Benedict and Tiana’s Gumbo on the website, but Disney has yet to announce a full menu. We’ll continue to watch for any food news from this popular restaurant! ©Disney In the meantime, keep following DFB for more Disney news! 8. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is home to some great food spots! Today we are checking out one that doesn’t always reach the top of our “must-eat” spots! Pandora This restaurant is known for its classic theme park fare including lots of hamburgers and hot dogs. But we are on a quest to find out if it is more than JUST that typical fare? Disney’s Animal Kingdom boasts a lot of great food options, including some of our favorite quick-service restaurants like Satu’li Canteen and Flame Tree Barbecue, and table-service restaurants such as Yak and Yeti and the Nomad Lounge. And today we are checking out another quick-service location to see what is has to offer. Time to eat in Animal Kingdom! We are making a stop at Restaurantosaurus to find out if their menu is more than just the normal theme park fare, and how it stands up when we move away from the hamburgers and hotdogs. Atmosphere You can find Restaurantosaurus in Dinoland U.S.A. It is located near Dinosaur and right next to Dino-Bite Snacks. While Restaurantosaurus is a bit hidden, once you find it you will notice it is a huge space! Restaurantosaurus in Animal Kingdom Restaurantosaurus offers Mobile Order, or you can walk inside and order with a cast member. We always recommend using Mobile Order in the My Disney Experience app, because it makes your life so much easier! Once you walk through the doors, you are greeted with the counter area where you can pick-up your food or order with a cast member. Counter area and mobile order pick-up area When you have your food, you can head into the dining area. The dining area has a self-serve drink station, condiments, napkins, and utensils. Self-serve drink station You never know when you might find Mickey, so keep your eyes peeled! We spotted a pepper packet Mickey by the condiments. We found an adorable pepper packet Mickey! There are LOTS of seating options in Restaurantosaurus. The restaurant has a huge, indoor dining area which is perfect for those hot Florida summers. Lots of indoor seating! And just when you thought there was no more, they even have additional seating off the main dining area. It wasn’t open when we were at the restaurant, but during peak times you will find even more seating there. Even more indoor seating! We love the theming inside this restaurant, and the stone-work and wooden walls add really great charm. The story of this restaurant is that Paleontology students turned their home base into a restaurant. It is full of props, equipment, and humor! You can find lots of remnants of the college students and lots of paleontology gear. Lots of fun things to look at! There are so many items to look at throughout the restaurant. Also, don’t forget to look up! There is even more up there! So much fun theming! There is also an outside patio area with additional seating and a bathroom located inside the restaurant. Menu The menu at Restaurantosaurus features a fairly good variety of food. It has a lot of your normal theme-park fare like hot dogs and hamburgers. It also features some chicken dishes, as well as a salad for a healthier option. ©Disney Additionally, the restaurant features a plant-based meal option too! ©Disney For the kiddos in your party, there is also a kids’ menu. All of their kids’ meals come with a “So Cool! Dinos” Book, which is a great addition. ©Disney They also have a few side options available. ©Disney As well as a selection of drinks, and even a few alcoholic drinks. ©Disney You can also grab a dessert here to finish off your meal! ©Disney Restaurantosaurus also has allergy-friendly menus, but we recommend ordering allergy-friendly foods directly with a cast member to ensure your specific needs are met! Drinks Let’s get started with some drinks! Our first drink we got was the Wildberry Lemonade. It is made of Wildberry Monin and Minute Maid® Premium Lemonade and costs $5.99. Wildberry Lemonade This lemonade was tart and not too sweet. The wildberry syrup adds a great berry flavor without a lot of sweetness. If you’re looking for a Kool-Aid level of sweetness, this drink won’t be for you. Since it is not super sweet, kids may not like it, however, it is a good “mocktail” drink. Golden Margarita We also grabbed the Golden Margarita which is Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, Grand Mariner Liqueur, Sweet-and-Sour, and Lime Juice and cost us $15.00. The margarita was very lime-forward and that was about all you could taste. It had a good amount of tartness without being “puckering” tart. The tequila and Grand Mariner Liqueur were hard to taste in this drin,k though. This was a solid quick service margarita, but it was nothing special or a drink you will remember for a long time. Eats Now that we have quenched our thirst, let’s move on to the eats! We started off with a side of Chili-Cheese Fries which, as the name implies, are crispy fries topped with chili and cheddar sauce. This side of fries costs $6.49. Chili-Cheese Fries We already fell in love when we saw that these fries have Disney’s plastic cheese on them! The chili was also really tasty, though. It had a lot of flavor and even a slight kick to it. The chili had lots of meat in it and paired really nicely with the cheese sauce. Overall, these fries are a decent-sized snack option, and it is hard to go wrong with the combination of chili and cheese. Plastic cheese, fries, meat and beans, yum! Next up, we tried the Chicken Breast Nuggets (8 piece) with French fries (you can also choose a Cutie mandarin instead). These nuggets cost $10.99. Chicken Breast Nuggets (8 pieces) We would say these are your classic chicken nugget. We were impressed with how much we got for the price and there is a decent amount of meat inside each one! These have a thicker breading that was crunchy. The breading definitely wasn’t bland, but we also wouldn’t say there is anything special about it. We think this dish is a really good value, and could even be split if you aren’t too hungry. This entree came with A LOT of food! Next, we tried the Fried Chicken Sandwich. This sandwich is a crispy fried chicken breast on a warm brioche bun finished with pickles, lettuce, tomato, and roasted garlic aïoli served with French fries. It costs $11.79. Fried Chicken Sandwich First off, the roasted garlic aïoli was really good! It had lots of garlic flavor and was super creamy. It was the star of this dish! You get a decent sized piece of chicken that had a crispy breading. The portions of lettuce, tomato, and pickle were decent as well. One of the biggest disappointments in this dish was that the bun was stale. We had high hopes for a brioche bun, but it really let us down. Otherwise, the chicken was juicy, and the elements worked really well together. We just wish the bun was better! Lots of sauce! Finally, we also picked up a healthier option: the Cobb Salad. The cobb salad costs $9.79 contains fresh greens, cucumbers, tomato, hard-boiled egg, bacon, blue cheese, and Green Goddess dressing. You can also get this Cobb Salad with chicken for $11.99. Cobb Salad The dressing on this salad is AMAZING! It is herby, creamy, and has lots of flavor. Some of our lettuce was a bit wilted, but most of it was crunchy and tasted fresh. This was a little light on the additional veggies (we only got four tomatoes and three small slices of cucumber). However, there was a good amount of hard-boiled egg and bacon. We thought the flavors all worked really well together, and the dressing really brought it all together. It was a great size, and it could definitely be a full meal, especially if you opted for the Cobb Salad with Chicken. The dressing was amazing! While we didn’t grab dessert this time, Restaurantosaurus currently offers two delicious desserts you can pick up! There is the Everest Cupcake for $6.29 which is a matcha cake with milk chocolate mousse filling, chocolate buttercream, crispy pearls, and a white chocolate Yeti image. We just wrote an article just about this treat that you can read here! Such a pretty cupcake! Or you can also grab the S’moreosaurus Shake for $8.49. This is a vanilla shake with chocolate and caramel drizzle, topped with a chocolate-dipped s’more, toasted marshmallows, and graham cracker crumbs. We have a review of this shake right here! You can also get this massive treat! Overall So, is Restaurantosaurus more than just hamburgers and hot dogs? While we are happy to report that this restaurant offers more than hamburgers and hotdogs, but it is a simple menu that is not really going to blow your mind. We love that there is a lot of variety, and almost anyone would be able to find something to eat here. The food was all tasty and we left feeling satisfied, however, there wasn’t anything special about the food itself. A full meal, no hamburger or hot dog! While the menu is fairly simple, the theming inside the restaurant is wonderful and this location boasts lots of great air-conditioned seating! The food has a comfort food feel, and sometimes that is exactly what we want! Nosh or Not? You should stop by Restaurantosaurus if… You have picky eaters. The menu has lots of classic comfort food and is a great option for picky eaters! The food doesn’t have crazy spices or odd ingredients. You are looking for classic theme-park fare. You can get all your classics here: hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken nuggets. You want a comfortable, air-conditioned place to enjoy your food. Restaurantosaurus has lots of fantastic, indoor seating with a good helping of air-conditioning! This is the perfect place to grab a bit and have a much needed rest. You are a fan of restaurants with fun theming. You could spend a lot of time enjoying the details in this restaurant! It has its own backstory and lots of artifacts to explore. The theming is wonderful and even better if someone in your party is a dino fan! You are looking for a menu with good variety. While the menu doesn’t stray far from normal fast-food, it does offer a great variety! You can get hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, salads and more here. You might want to dine somewhere else if…. You want unique food options you can’t get anywhere else. While the food is tasty, there are much more unique options available in Animal Kingdom. This restaurant has lots of classic “fast food” and very few options that you wouldn’t be able to find somewhere else. We highly recommend Satu’li Canteen for unique food options! You don’t eat meat. A large majority of the menu has meat on it. Restaurantosaurus does offer one plant-based option, but if you are looking for more veggie focused meals, you won’t be able to find that here. Yak and Yeti offers a lot of great veggie-forward dishes! You want more healthy options to choose from. We really enjoyed the Cobb Salad here, and you can sub your French fries for a mandarin orange, but there aren’t many other healthy options here. We would recommend Satu’li Canteen, Yak and Yeti or Tiffins for menus with less fried foods! You want to enjoy good views while eating! 9. In case you missed it, there was a trend last year of “quiet luxury,” also known as “stealth wealth” This is the showing of wealth in subtle ways. For example, quiet luxury is neutral colors, not wearing big logos of brands on clothing, simpler meals, etc. Victoria & Albert’s However, 2024 seems to be the year of the opposite of that. Known as “loud luxury,” this year, the wealthy are flaunting their wealth. You’re bound to see huge Gucci logos on t-shirts and bags, as well as see folks dining in the most expensive and high profile restaurants. That includes dining at Disney World, and there are four restaurants here that are the very definition of loud luxury. Victoria & Albert’s So this is the most opulent of Disney World restaurants, and people who have a reservation at Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort are sure to brag about it. The seven-course Tasting Menu begins at $295 per person. Wine pairings begin at $150 per person. Amuse Bouche trio at Victoria & Albert’s For those who want an even more loud luxury meal, though, there’s the Chef’s Table experience. This is a seven to ten-course menu that costs $425 per person with wine pairings starting at $210 per person. If you’re dining at Victoria & Albert’s and you haven’t saved up all year for it, you’re probably wealthy and you’re showing it off. We Ate the MOST EXPENSIVE and EXCLUSIVE MEAL in Disney World. Here’s What It Was Like. Club 33 Club 33 is so exclusive that many people have never heard of it. The Club was originally imagined by Walt Disney himself as a way to entertain VIPs. Now, it’s invite-only and comes with some pretty hefty membership fees. The Disney World Club 33 costs $35,000 to join, but there’s also an annual fee of $16,000. Magic Kingdom Club 33 entrance Those with a membership, though, do get an Annual Pass for themselves, their spouse, and any children under 18. You also get access to all four Club 33 locations at Disney World, 50 single-day park hopper tickets, 51-day VIP tours, access to the Club 33 concierge, and access to other VIP events, parties, and ride previews. Note that you still have to pay for your meals at Club 33 restaurants. Everything You Need to Know About Club 33 Monsieur Paul Another way Disney World visitors can show off their wealth is by booking a reservation at Monsieur Paul at EPCOT’s France Pavilion. This upscale (dare we say, bougie?) restaurant serves elevated French food, and all that’s available is a Prix Fixe Dégustation menu that costs $195 per person, which includes a starter cocktail. Dining at Monsieur Paul This is a “gastronomic meal” using recipes by renowned Chef Paul Bocuse, who achieved three Michelin stars 53 years in a row for his restaurant in Lyon, France. So yes, this is the real deal. Come With Us To Try One of the FANCIEST Meals in Disney World — Monsieur Paul Takumi-Tei Takumi-Tei at EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion is certainly a restaurant where you can show off your wealth. Its Japanese name translates to “House of the Artisan” and it features five distinctive rooms all inspired by different natural elements with handcrafted works of art. Dining is a multi-course omakase tasting menu, which means it’s a meal curated by a chef. Takumi-Tei Two omikase meals are available, including Kiku — The Omnivorous Course, which starts at $250 per person. There’s also Hasu, which features a Plant-Based Course — that starts at $150 per person. These are just a few examples of loud luxury restaurants in Disney World. New restaurants keep making their way to Disney World as well and have been a variety of Quick Service and Table Service spots with a range in prices. So while loud luxury is a trend happening now, that doesn’t mean it’s Disney’s only focus in terms of dining, especially when it comes to new spots coming to the parks and hotels. 12. We get excited about Disney food, but hey, that’s why we’re here! Turkey Leg If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know we have some Disney food and snacks that are 100% non-negotiable — we’ll eat them EVERY time. Yes, give us those Corn Dog Nuggets with Plastic Cheese. We also think getting a Dole Whip is practically required in Magic Kingdom. In Animal Kingdom, we’re going to order up some Cheeseburger Pods for lunch. However, not every food in Disney World slaps. In fact, there are some snacks you should stay away from — at all costs. Plant-based “Cheese” Pizza from Pinocchio Village Haus Okay, so Disney really is trying to make better plant-based food, but sometimes those efforts just turn out to be big fails. The Plant-based “Cheese” Pizza from Pinocchio Village Haus in Magic Kingdom is one of those big fails. It reminded us of one of those microwave pizzas and the “cheese” melted more like cream cheese than mozzarella, so there was a texture issue here, too. Does this look appetizing to you? We also found the crust to be thin and chewy (and not in a good way). Again, the texture was just gross to us. Seriously, this pizza made us gag. There are far better plant-based things to have in Fantasyland, like the Plant-based Bratwurst at Friar Nook’s. And yes, a plant-based eater is the one who tried this one our team! Read our full review of this pizza here Artisan Burger at Gasparilla Island Grill We had high hopes for the Artisan Burger at Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. It’s a Grilled Signature-blend Burger with Brisket, and Chuck topped with Bacon, Cheddar, Lettuce, Tomato, and Onion on a Toasted Brioche Bun. This burger was SO dry and had very little seasoning that it just didn’t work for us. Artisan Burger This is no better than a burger you can get anywhere, but we expected better at the Grand Floridian. It could be a little better if there was some kind of sauce on it, but we’d skip it and head to D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs instead. Here’s our full review of the Artisan Burger Colossal Cinnamon Roll at Creature Comforts Okay, so we know this might be a controversial opinion, but just because something is BIG and shaped like Mickey doesn’t mean that it’s good. We also know that a lot of you love this cinnamon roll. However, we’ve always thought it was dry and when we’ve had it, it’s often been stale. It’s also not even warmed up — who wants a lukewarm cinnamon roll? Colossal Cinnamon Roll Sure, you can go ahead and get it if you want. But if it’s a great cinnamon roll you’re after, skip it and grab the Cinnamon Roll from Gaston’s Tavern in Magic Kingdom the next time you’re there. Trust us — that one will spoil you on cinnamon rolls FOREVER. Read our review of the far superior cinnamon roll Cupcakes in General Disney World LOVES to make cupcakes. We get cupcakes for every occasion throughout the resort, as well as for birthday treats and everything else. Now, you might love cupcakes, but most of these cupcakes are pretty standard and aren’t different from anything you couldn’t get at a grocery store back home (or even make back home). We say save your money — or Disney Dining Plan snack credits — and get something different. Cupcake Now, we get it — your kids are going to want Mickey-shaped cupcakes, and you might have to just cave in and buy the cupcakes for them. Some of the designs of the cupcakes are Insta-worthy, too, so if you’re wanting great Disney snack photos, they’re good for that, too. And sometimes a standout emerges, and we’re here to tell you about those! But they are few are far between. RECIPE: How To Make HIDDEN MICKEY CUPCAKES at Home! Turkey Legs You knew we were going there, didn’t you? Our hatred of turkey legs might be legendary at this point. We KNOW people love them because we see people carrying around these massive things, all the time, but we just can’t get behind the turkey leg love. It’s a no from us Turkey legs are available at various carts throughout the parks. The last time we had one, we were reminded of why we didn’t like it. It was super salty, but the texture between the gristle and fattiness of the meat was a huge turn-off. If that doesn’t sound good to you, you’ll want to skip. Read our most recent Turkey Leg review Happabore Sampler at Oga’s Cantina The Happabore Sampler is SUPPOSED to be like a charcuterie plate with a space theme, but mostly, it’s just a sad plate of “no.” We will say that Disney DID try to improve it, and it was a “little” better the last time we tried it, but, basically, you go to Oga’s Cantina for the drinks, and NOT the food. Happabore Sampler We’ve had a version of this sampler at Disneyland — and it’s SO much better there, so we’re not sure why Disney World decided to offer something different. If you’re in Hollywood Studios and you want charcuterie, go to Hollywood Brown Derby — you’ll get a way more satisfying plate there. Read our most recent review of the Happabore Sampler We hope this helps you decide on what NOT to eat the next time you visit Disney World and what you shouldn’t waste your money and snack credits on. 17. PLEASE. I’m BEGGING you. STOP paying for these totally, completely, unquestionably UNNECESSARY things at Disney World! Cinderella Castle As experts in Disney World vacation planning, we know exactly how much it costs to go on a Disney World vacation, and we also know how to cut that cost down by a LOT. One of the easiest and quickest ways to get the expense down to a more manageable budget is to cut out all the little extra, unnecessary add-ons that too many people spend money on. Here are six things you might THINK you need to buy in Disney World, but you really DON’T. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. A quick caveat before we fully jump into this post: If you love buying any of these things in Disney World, that’s totally OK! When we say “unnecessary,” we mean that you really don’t HAVE to buy these things, but if you have it in the budget and want to use your vacation funds on any of these items, who are we to stop you? You can always trim the budget elsewhere to prioritize these things. These are just our suggestions for things that some people think they HAVE to buy in the parks when really they’re not required at all, or there might be a better place to get what they need! EPCOT We’re starting off strong with a potentially controversial souvenir. A MagicBand or MagicBand+ MagicBands are the wearable technology (a band worn on the wrist containing a Radio-Frequency Identification or RFID chip) that connects — or “unlocks” — all the experiences booked through My Disney Experience once you arrive at Walt Disney World. MagicBand+ You can use your MagicBand to unlock your hotel room, get into the parks, scan into a ride’s Lightning Lane, and more. If you link a method of payment to it, you can even pay for stuff using your MagicBand! Sounds pretty handy, right? But there are two reasons why you might NOT want to buy a MagicBand. Reason #1: You Already Have One Some people might think that MagicBands expire and you have to get a new one every time you go to Disney World. That’s not true! MagicBand+ You can keep reusing your MagicBand over and over again, so there’s no need to buy new ones. Reason #2: There Are Other Ways to Do Everything a MagicBand Does Even if you don’t own any MagicBand at all, you can still do everything you could do with a MagicBand using your smartphone, Apple Watch, or physical cards. ©Disney You can use MagicMobile on your smartphone or Apple Watch to do everything a MagicBand could do. And even if you don’t have a smart device, you’re not out of luck: Disney will give you physical room keys and park tickets if you request them. Scanning in! So although MagicBands are Disney-themed and pretty convenient, you can save money by skipping on that particular souvenir. They cost anywhere from $30 to $45, so if you’re paying for one for everyone in your group, that cost can add up quickly. Check out our ULTIMATE guide to MagicBands here. A Poncho Please don’t misunderstand this next one: You DO need a rain poncho or rain jacket in Disney World, so we’re not telling you to skip packing one altogether. But you should NOT wait until you’re at Disney World to buy one! Rain jackets The weather in Orlando is pretty changeable — it’ll be bright and sunny one minute and dark and stormy the next. If you’ll be in Disney World for a few days, you can bet that it’ll rain at least once while you’re there. So rain gear of some kind is essential! However, ponchos and rain jackets are MUCH more expensive inside Disney World than they are at your local Walmart or on Amazon. Disney Poncho In Disney World, you’ll pay $12 for a rain poncho ($10 for child size), but we found this pack of two ponchos on Amazon for about $12, which makes them HALF the price of the Disney ones. ©Amazon That’s a pretty major price difference, so we highly recommend getting the cheaper ponchos and using the money you saved on something more fun, like snacks! Get the Amazon rain ponchos here! Non-Disney Snacks We’ll be honest with you: When we go to Disney World, we’re mostly there for the food. Sure, the rides are fun, but have you ever tried a Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich (with NUTELLA) at Sleepy Hollow? Or Corn Dog Nuggets with Plastic Cheese from Casey’s Corner? Our snack budget takes up a fairly sizeable portion of our overall vacation, but one thing we’ll NEVER spend it on is non-Disney snacks. Lays in Magic Kingdom You can pick up generic snacks like bags of Lays chips and M&Ms in the theme parks, but when you can also grab those at any convenience store back home, why spend the money on them in Disney World? There are so many better options for snacks and treats! M&Ms The main reason why people buy those non-Disney snacks is probably because they just don’t know about all the better options in the parks, so here are a bunch of posts to help you track down those tasty eats: Best Snacks at Magic Kingdom in Disney World Best Snacks Disney’s Hollywood Studios Best Snacks at EPCOT Best Snacks in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Bottles of Water A bottle of water at Disney World can cost you anywhere from $3.75 to almost $6, which really adds up if you keep buying them during your trip. Not a great value of your DDP credit There are two very simple solutions that will save you a lot of money but still help you stay hydrated: Solution #1: Bring Your Own Water Bottle Disney has lots of water bottle refill stations throughout the parks, and they even have a handy tool on the app now that will let you know where the nearest refill station is located! You can bring your own bottle into the parks and then refill it for free whenever you need to. Water Bottle Refill Station If you don’t already have a water bottle that you love, check out this Owala bottle that several members of our team highly recommend. ©Amazon It has a cool FreeSip feature that allows you to either sip from the straw or take a bigger gulp by tipping the bottle up. Plus, it comes in lots of fun colors! You can grab it on Amazon. Check out the Owala bottle on Amazon Solution #2: Get Free Water from Quick Service Restaurants Every quick service restaurant in Disney World will give you free cups of water, even if you didn’t buy anything at the restaurant. Free Cups of Water It’s not quite as convenient as bringing your own bottle, because you do have to find a restaurant and potentially wait in line to get the water. However, it might be worth it to you if you don’t want to carry around a bottle all day! Everywhere You Can Find Free Water in Disney World Sunscreen or First Aid Items These items have the same caveat as the poncho: We’re NOT telling you NOT to buy sunscreen and first aid items, we’re just telling you not to buy these things inside Disney World! Some items from the hotel gift shop Although you’ll see sunscreen, bandaids, some medicine, and other first aid essentials for sale in the parks and at the hotel gift shops, you’ll also notice that the prices are quite a bit higher than you’d find at your local Walgreens. You can buy these items at home or on Amazon instead and save a lot of money! We found a super cute travel first aid kit online that you could throw into your park bag so that you’re prepared for any situation. ©Amazon If you find yourself needing extra first aid supplies in the parks, you can head to one of the First Aid stations! First Aid Center At these centers, they have a few items available for free, like sample sizes of all kinds of common medication (we’re talking staples like pain relievers) and band-aids. Everything First Aid Centers Can Do for You at Disney World Genie+ at Disney’s Animal Kingdom It’s time for some real talk. Personally, I LOVE Animal Kingdom. In fact, it’s my favorite park. However, I rarely (if ever) buy Genie+ for this park. Animal Kingdom Genie+ is the skip-the-line service that you can pay for to gain access to Lightning Lanes and thus skip the normal standby line. It can be tricky to master, so make sure you check out our complete guide to learn all the hacks and tricks. Click here to see our full guide to Disney Genie+! You can’t buy Genie+ for your whole trip all at once — you have to purchase it day-by-day. I usually do buy it for Magic Kingdom (because there are so many rides to use it on there) and Hollywood Studios (because lines can get very long at those popular thrill rides), but I almost never buy it for Animal Kingdom. There just aren’t a ton of rides in Animal Kingdom, and the park is usually the least busy out of the four theme parks, which means wait times are often lower here compared to Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT. Animal Kingdom If you don’t have very long in Animal Kingdom and you really want to maximize your time, you may want to purchase Genie+ to get on rides like Expedition Everest and Kilimanjaro Safaris with the shortest wait time possible. But don’t forget that the most popular ride — Avatar: Flight of Passage — is not included with the normal Genie+ and instead has an Individual Lightning Lane, which you have to pay for a la carte. Flight of Passage My strategy at Animal Kingdom is usually to rope drop Flight of Passage (which means I get to the park before it opens and head straight to this ride once it opens), then go to Kilimanjaro Safaris right afterward. Everest generally has a fairly low wait time even in the afternoon, but I’d head there next, just to be safe. After that, I just enjoy the delicious snacks, awesome shows, and chill vibes of the park! Kilimanjaro Safaris If you want to learn how to save even MORE on your upcoming trip, we recommend reaching out to our friends at Small World Vacations. 18. If you’re planning a Disney World trip soon, one thing you’ll want to think about before you travel is where you want to eat! Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Disney World is home to over 400 restaurants, and for many of them, advance dining reservations are highly recommended. You can make dining reservations 60 days before your trip through the Disney World app or website. And if you’re getting ready to make reservations soon, you should know about a big system update! A major dining reservation change just went live on the My Disney Experience app — you can now search availability for multiple days at one time! To use this new feature, you’ll start by looking for reservations as usual. Press the ‘+’ button on the My Disney Experience home screen and select “Check Dining Availability.” You’ll then choose your party size, start date, and time. However, once the screen loads, you’ll notice a new “Check Availability for Multiple Days” button beneath each restaurant. Start by looking for availability as usual! ©Disney Once you click on that button, it’ll direct you to the restaurant’s individual reservation page. You can edit your party size, and then you’ll need to select your date range. ©Disney The calendar will show all the available dining reservation days (60 days out), and when you select your first date, it will show you a “selectable range” for you to choose from. ©Disney You can pick up to ten days at a time, and it will automatically select all the days between the two dates you choose. (So as it stands currently, you wouldn’t JUST be able to pick the 11th and 15th — it automatically shows the 12th, 13th, and 14th as well.) ©Disney From there, you get the chance to choose your time again, and then availability will pop up below for each date in your chosen range. How handy! ©Disney If the restaurant you want is not available during a specific date or time range, there will be a “no availability” message listed below that date. This could be very useful if you’re willing to modify your park days to fit your desired dining reservations! ©Disney So there you go — a full guide to the new setup! At the time of publishing, the change isn’t yet live on the website, but we’ll keep you updated once it shows there as well. Stay tuned to DFB for more dining reservation news and tips! 20. Disney World is BUSY today, y’all! Cinderella Castle The wild part is — it’s not even noon yet! Sometimes early in the day is the easiest time to see how busy the day will be at Disney World, and today is no exception! We know we’ve seen some pretty hectic crowds recently, and wait times were still pretty high last week. Let’s take a look at just how busy it is today! There are a TON of different ways you can figure out just how busy Disney World is going to be on a given day. We know that there hasn’t really been a “slow season” at the Florida parks in a while, and the crowd levels recently show that. However, there is one telltale sign that shows when it is SUPER busy at the parks… and on March 11th, we met that threshold. Genie+ sold out for Multiple Parks! ©Disney What does that mean? Well, it means that Disney’s premier skip-the-line service, Genie+ has sold out at some of the Disney World parks today! Not only has it sold out, but it is at a very HIGH price point! Each park had a pretty significant increase from where the prices were yesterday (Magic Kingdom on March 10th was $29). Please excuse us while we check our eyes to make sure we’re seeing this right…. yep, we are. Not every park has sold out yet, so if you’re still looking to snag it for the day, you still have time. However, if you’re looking to get the “Multiple Parks” option — maybe consider which park you want to prioritize Genie+ for because that selection is sold out. ©Disney Along with the “Multiple Parks” selection being sold out, a TON of Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) selections — which are rides that aren’t included in Genie+ that you have to pay a separate fee for — sold out early this morning. The rides that we’ve seen sold out so far are Rise of the Resistance, Guardians of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Flight of Passage. Disney’s Animal Kingdom For some of these rides, you are still able to try to get a virtual queue spot at 1 PM if you’re in the park, so make sure you are checking the app around then for your chance to snag a spot! You have to be in the park that the ride is in for this virtual queue drop, so keep that in mind! Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and TRON Lightcycle / Run are the rides that you can try to grab a boarding group for. On all days, you can try to get a boarding group using the virtual queues for these rides at 7 AM and again at 1 PM. Spaceship Earth Why is it SO busy right now? Well, some schools are officially on Spring Break! So, crowds are up while families are vacationing. The times that Spring Break happens vary depending on where you are from, so some schools are on break even if yours (or your child’s) isn’t! Hollywood Studios At the time of writing this, options are still available to purchase for all of the parks individually. So, if you’re looking to spend a day at one park or don’t mind not having Genie+ for every park you’re planning to hit today, then no worries! Hollywood Studios However, if you DO want Genie+ for each park you plan to visit today, there may be a more expensive workaround option. You can purchase Genie+ for each park individually if you feel like you truly can’t go without it. However, we feel like there are some parks that you don’t necessarily need it for — but, of course, that decision is totally up to you! You can always find some crowds at Disney World If you don’t plan to purchase Genie+ and are faced with a busy park day, there is no need to worry. There are still ways that you can make your day magical! While the wait times may be long, don’t forget that you can utilize the standby line. There are also a ton of shows, parades, and different character interactions that you can see throughout the parks. 21. Hi. Former Disney World Cast Member here. The life of a Disney Cast Member is pretty unique — your day consists of waving bubble wands around, talking to a mouse, and pressing buttons to make elephants spin around in the sky. But Cast Members clock in and clock out just like the rest of the world, which means they covet that precious lunch break just like us. We told you this is a MAGICAL place! So, remember how we said the job has some unique aspects? Well, when you’re a Magic Kingdom Cast Member, guess what you can get for lunch? Magic Kingdom food! But you’ve probably never seen a Haunted Mansion Cast Member in line at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments, right? We’re going to let you in on a little secret. Cast Members are hiding all over the place! Disney has some pretty strict rules about where you can go when you’re in your costume. Town Square Theater It certainly doesn’t make sense for a colonial Cast Member to be in Tomorrowland at Cosmic Ray’s, right? Well, Cast Members have to eat, too, and while they don’t HAVE to buy Disney food, it’s gotta be pretty tempting to go grab a Cheesebring Spring Roll on break, right? So what is the solution? Going incognito! Who doesn’t crave a Cheeseburger Spring Roll now and then?! Yep, turns out you may actually be standing in line for food right behind a Cast Member! We’re not here to EXPOSE anyone, so we won’t share our go-to tricks for quickly going undercover, but if you were wondering if that Jungle Cruise Skipper you met ever grabs a snack from Adventureland, the answer is probably “yes.” Sunshine Tree Terrace That said, (lunch)time is limited, so most Cast Members don’t even try to travel very far for their food. Between the long lines for food and the crowds you have to navigate, most Cast Members only venture onstage (a.k.a. in the park) if they think they can secure the meal in under ten minutes. Oh, and you probably won’t see any Cast Members eating on stage, either. Most take their food backstage (for a little peace and quiet…and air conditioning!). Fish and Chips are a GREAT option! We’re gonna chalk this up as a MAJOR perk of being a Cast Member. Speaking from experience, there’s no better feeling than snacking on some nachos from the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT on a lunch break. It certainly beats a packed lunch, right? Guacamole with Totopos So, there you go. If you’ve ever wondered what Cast Members do for lunch, now you know. They’re just like us! 22. The one thing that never changes in Disney World is how often everything DOES change. Spaceship Earth The beginning of the year saw some HUGE changes, including changes to park hopping (all-day park hopping is BACK), the return of the Disney Dining Plan, and more. So that means your strategy in Disney World needs to change, too, and some of the advice we might have given a year or two ago is just probably not good anymore. So we’re going to share the outdated hacks you need to ignore when it comes to visiting Disney World. You should start in Mexico You want to start an argument with Disney Adults? Suggest NOT starting in Mexico when hitting the World Showcase. Now, we understand why a lot of people like this strategy (and it may have SOMETHING to do with MARGARITAS), but y’all, you can start in Canada if that’s more your speed (especially if you’re craving that Maple Popcorn). Canada Paviilion However, if you can enter EPCOT via International Gateway (where the Skyliner and Friendship Boats take you), we recommend starting in France because ice cream martinis > margaritas. Yeah, we said it! No, seriously, though, start where you want and ignore advice that says otherwise. Who Actually Owns the World Showcase Pavilions in EPCOT? You should go to Magic Kingdom on your first day We often see folks suggest that you visit Magic Kingdom on the first day of your trip. However, for many, vacations start on the weekend, and trust us — the last place you want to be on a Saturday or Sunday is in Magic Kingdom, which is generally VERY BUSY. Crowds in Magic Kingdom Instead, we recommend saving Magic Kingdom for later. In fact, we like doing Magic Kingdom on our last park day because who doesn’t want to end their vacation with those Happily Ever After fireworks? That’s literally how to make your vacation go out with a BANG. 7 Juicy Secrets You Learn As a Magic Kingdom Cast Member You only need a half day for Animal Kingdom Okay, this one just hurts. Maybe in the past before Pandora, Animal Kingdom was a half-day park for a lot of folks, but that’s certainly not the case anymore. There is SO much to do in Animal Kingdom and we think some people might just be missing out on a lot of it. Yes, there aren’t a lot of rides in the park. However, there are tons of trails you can take to see a variety of animals, including gorillas and TIGERS. Tiger at Maharajah Jungle Trek in Animal Kingdom Plus there’s the Conservation Station at Rafiki’s Planet Watch where you can pet animals, watch Disney veterinarians work on animals, AND learn to draw a Disney character from a Disney animator. There are also so many unique photo ops with characters in special costumes, like Mickey and Minnie in safari outfits, and Donald, Daisy, and Chip ‘n’ Dale in dinosaur costumes! We could go on and on and on! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Has 33 Restaurants, But You Only Need To Know About 5 You need a full week in Disney World So many people are going to tell you that you’ll need to book a whole week or even longer in Disney World to “do and see it all.” Okay, first, you would need the rest of your LIFE to do and see it all because there really is that much stuff to do in the parks, at the resorts, and beyond. So just put that nonsense out of your head immediately. You can go to Disney World for as long — or as little — time as you want. You don’t have to stay for a week or longer If you can’t afford a full week in Disney World, doing three or four days is WAY more affordable and a lot easier on your body (a full week in Disney World is HARD on the body). You can just prioritize what you want to see and do and leave out the stuff you’re not SUPER interested in. Plus you’ll save money by visiting for short periods of time that you might be able to afford to go back sooner and do NEW things. See how that works? How Many Days Do You Really Need in Disney World? Of course, how you view your Disney World trip is all up to you and if you want to spend more time there, want to skip out on Animal Kingdom early, or want to start in Mexico at EPCOT’s World Showcase, that’s all up to you. But don’t let outdated advice tell you that’s what you HAVE to do.
