  2. Magic Kingdom is FULL of magical moments (well, dur, it is called MAGIC Kingdom for a reason). Cinderella Castle From being able to meet some of your favorite Disney characters, to riding classic Disney rides, to getting pixie dusted (literally, if you want), being in Magic Kingdom is like living in a fairy tale. No wonder why we love it so much! However, there is something you can do to make your Magic Kingdom experience even MORE, well, magical, and we’re going to tell you all about it. We’re sure if you’ve been to Magic Kingdom, you’ve watched the Happily Ever After fireworks from Main Street, U.S.A. But the next time you’re in Disney World, here’s what you need to do instead. Instead of heading to Main Street to see the fireworks, go behind Cinderella Castle in Fantasyland. You’ll want to be near Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. Prince Charming Regal Carrousel Why would you want to do this? First, you’ll get a super unique view of the fireworks — and that’s always fun, right? But…if you’re lucky, you may get a surprise of ROYAL proportions. Sometimes, the princesses come out of Princess Fairytale Hall during the fireworks and hang out in that area for magical moments with kids (and adults, too!). This is such a unique way to see the fireworks, as well as see characters during the show. Ariel meeting in Fairytale Hall So we do have to warn you that this isn’t guaranteed to happen every night, and it’s not something you’ll find listed on the My Disney Experience app. It’s sort of one of those “if you know, you know” kind of things. So it may NOT happen, but it very well MAY happen and you’ll end up with a little extra magic to end your evening in Magic Kingdom. However, if you MUST meet the princesses and don’t want to take your chances, you can always visit them at Princess Fairytale Hall during the day. You can also book a meal at Cinderella’s Royal Table to get more quality time with the princesses in Magic Kingdom. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Critter Country If so, in case you haven’t already heard, you’ll need to know that an entire land at Disneyland will be closed to make way for some new additions — tomorrow! Critter Country will close in Disneyland tomorrow, May 1st! This closure is to allow Disney to make way for two new shops — Ray’s Berets and Louis’ Critter Club to come to Critter Country. Here’s a look at the concept art of the new shops released by Walt Disney Imagineers: ©Disney Ray’s Berets will replace The Briar Patch and will offer headwear, apparel, accessories, toys, and more. ©Disney Louis’ Critter Club will occupy the left-hand side of Pooh Corner and will offer even more apparel, accessories, home décor, and more Princess Tiana-themed merchandise. Pooh Corner at Disneyland Fans of Pooh Corner: Don’t worry because the middle and treats side of the shop will remain as is and continue to offer merchandise from Hundred Acre Wood along with its famous sweets! 6. Things are really getting EPIC at Universal Orlando. ©Universal Thanks to the general amount of time it takes to build a theme park combined with massive COVID-related construction delays, it can sometimes feel like an eternity since Universal officially announced Epic Universe back in 2019. However, as Epic Universe’s 2025 opening draws nearer, those years of concept art and construction rumors are giving way to real photos of the in-depth lands and massive rides coming to the revolutionary new theme park. At opening, Epic Universe is going to be broken down into five initial lands – or “Portals” in Universal’s parlance for the park – with the central Celestial Park surrounded by Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and How to Train Your Dragon Isle of Berk. So far, we’ve seen various images and tidbits from each. The more images we see of Epic Universe, the more excited we’re getting for this brand-new theme park to finally open in 2025! 8. This celebrity might have just had the “best night of their life” at Disneyland. Sleeping Beauty Castle Celebrities and major figures visiting Disneyland have been baked into the park’s DNA since its earliest days, when everyone from actors to world leaders would visit the park, often hosted by Walt himself. Fast forward to today’s social media world when famous visitors to the park often document their trip for the world to see. Such was the case for a major music star recently. International superstar Bebe Rexha – best known for hits including “I’m Good (Blue)” (with David Guetta), “Hey Mama” (with David Guetta, Nicki Minaj and Afrojack), “Me, Myself & I” (with G-Eazy), “In the Name of Love” (with Martin Garrix), and “Meant to Be” (featuring Florida Georgia Line) – recently took to Instagram to share some snaps of a trip to the Disneyland Resort. @beberexha Instagram In addition to the above snap of herself in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, Rexha also shared additional images throughout the post’s slides, including what appears to be a family photo in front of the castle… @beberexha Instagram … a selfie with a tour guide… @beberexha Instagram … and the iconic “Here you leave today…” sign. @beberexha Instagram Rexha, who ended the post with a video professing her love for Mickey and captioned it “Disneyland is always a dream” certainly seemed to be “feeling alright” her her visit to the Happiest Place on Earth. 9. For many, a stay at a Disney World deluxe resort is the ultimate dream vacation, but is it perfect? Contemporary Resort! We’ll be the first to tell you that these hotels boast stunning theming, luxurious amenities, and their locations are just prime, but is it all sunshine and rainbows? Well, we know about one “perk” of being associated with some of these rooms that’s causing quite a stir among Disney fans. Let’s talk about it! If you weren’t able to guess it earlier, we’re talking about an unintended consequence of staying in some of the rooms at any of the Magic Kingdom Monorail Resorts — Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The issue we’ve been hinting at is a lack of privacy. Contemporary Resort Let’s imagine this scenario: You’ve splurged on a room with a balcony at the Polynesian Village Resort. You step outside to enjoy the view, only to be greeted by the curious stares of monorail passengers gliding by. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Or perhaps you’ve booked a Grand Floridian room only to find out that it’s overlooking the monorail track. Grand Floridian and Monorail We haven’t even yet mentioned the Contemporary Resort where the monorail cuts right through the middle! Disney’s Contemporary Resort While you can’t argue the convenience, the constant traffic might not be your idea of tranquility. This clashes directly with perhaps the biggest perk of staying in one of these resorts — the close proximity to Magic Kingdom. So, on the one hand, you have the pleasure of staying in a deluxe resort only a stone’s throw from Main Street, U.S.A., and on the other hand, you have a constant stream of traffic flowing by your room. Speaking of “flowing,” we’ve yet to mention the ferryboats that pass by constantly. Ferryboat As you can imagine, the guests paying the premium for staying at these resorts are divided on if the intrusiveness justifies the high cost. Another thing to note is that you’re prone to feeling the Fishbowl Effect when people can just look right into your room from the monorail or ferryboat. Ferryboat, anyone? Now if you’re truly going to be bothered by being in a room within the sightlines of the monorail or ferrboat, we suggest making a room request in advance. You can do this in a couple of ways: The simplest way is to go through the online check-in process on the My Disney Experience app up to 60 days before check-in. If you would rather speak with someone in person about your request, we suggest calling the Disney Resort Hotel Reservations Hotline — (407) 934-7639. Again, doing this in advance will give Disney a better chance at accommodating your request. Overall, is staying in one of these resorts a perk or pitfall? Well, it depends on your priorities — convenience vs seclusion. We’ll let you decide. Until then, stay tuned to DFB for more Disney hotel tips. 11. We’re constantly keeping track of the latest menu changes and updates happening all across Disney World. We’ve even dined at some pretty bougie places and tried some weird dishes (all in the name of research) to bring you the most updated information about what’s going on with Disney World and its food offerings. Mexico Pavilion We recently ran across a menu change in EPCOT that totally took us by surprise, so of course we had to share it with you! If you’ve ever made plans for a good meal while visiting EPCOT, chances are La Hacienda de San Angel has probably made your shortlist at the very least. It’s a great place to dine with an authentic Mexican vibe, a wonderful menu (and the occasional seasonal offering), and an incredible view of the World Showcase lagoon (that’s even more beautiful if you experience your meal during the nightly fireworks). La Hacienda de San Angel But, while we were checking up on the latest changes and updates that Disney World likes to frequently make to their menus, we came across a pretty expensive entree added here. La Hacienda de San Angel now offers a Tomahawk Steak as one of their specialty entree options you can order for a whopping *wait for it…* $120! We almost couldn’t believe our eyes when we spotted it. ©Disney We’ve seen at a few Disney World restaurants who drop a Tomahawk Steak into the menu offerings they’re more expensive because they’re portioned out to be shared between 2 people. Since this particular meal comes with such a hefty price tag, and a few sides from the description to help round out the meal, we’re hoping that’s the case for this dish. We’re constantly looking out for the latest menu changes and updates happening around Disney World so be sure to stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for them all! 13. Disney World hotel pools are some of the amenities guests love most about staying on property. Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort Often they’re themed immaculately to match the rest of the resort, and there’s plenty of space for everyone to enjoy the water. However, there’s one issue with the pools that is a little awkward, so no one really wants to discuss it…which means we’re about to talk about it in full detail, so buckle up! So the pool itself is great! You and/or your kids are having a great time playing, and then it comes time to get out, dry off, and head back to your room. Here’s where the problem lies: the towels. Pool Towels Have you ever noticed how TINY Disney World hotel towels are? For small children, they’re totally fine, but for anyone 14+ who’s hit a growth spurt? Yeah, they’re not doing much! Yes, you’re wearing bathing suits, but you’d still prefer to be covered…EVERYWHERE, right?! Pool Towels Granted, there’s nothing really stopping you from grabbing more than one towel from the Pool Towel stand, but you also don’t want to be wasteful. So what do you do in this situation? We have a few suggestions! Bring towels from home! This is easier if you’re driving to Disney World since you may not want to take up room in your suitcase if you’re flying. This way, you know you’re using towels you like and know are large enough. Dry off as much as you can AT the pool before heading back to your hotel room. This way you’re not dripping all over the hotel (which is a major slipping hazard) Bring a towel from your hotel room. Often these towels are at least a little larger, and you can just reuse it (for the pool only) each time you head down there, meaning less waste. Caribbean Beach Resort Pool Don’t forget to bring sunscreen with you to reapply while you’re swimming — that sun is brutal! We’re always here to bring you the latest Disney World tips, tricks, and everything in between, so stay tuned to DFB! According to our readers, THESE are the best Disney World hotel pools! 15. If you’ve been here a while, then you know that we’re absolutely OBSESSED with plastic cheese here at DFB. Plastic cheeeeese If you don’t know about plastic cheese, allow me to enlighten you! It’s a cheese sauce you can find in many places around Disney World that Cast Members will serve you in a little open-top plastic cup, usually for a $1 upcharge. We especially love to dip our Casey’s Corner corn dog nuggets and french fries in it! And if you’re as hooked on plastic cheese as we are, then there’s another meal we HAVE to tell you about! At The Friar’s Nook in Magic Kingdom, there’s one snack on the menu that’s MADE for the plastic cheese lovers out there. You can get Tots and Cheese Sauce as a snack for just $5.29! ©Disney However, if you’re feeling just a bit more peckish, you can UPGRADE that snack into a full meal! For $7.49, Friar’s Nook offers the Tots and Cheese Sauce Kids’ Meal. You still get the tater tots and plastic cheese, but the extra $2.20 also pays for a small beverage and two sides (a Cuties mandarin and apple slices). The gang’s all here! It’s a fairly decent-sized cup of tots, and you get the same $1-sized cup of plastic cheese to go along with it. The whole setup is a bit more filling than most snacks, and yet it’s cheaper than some of the snack options in Magic Kingdom (we’re looking at you, cheeseburger spring rolls!). YUM And you know what else? It was absolutely delicious! The tots were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, and the cheese was the perfect smooth, cheesy accompaniment. Add in the light, refreshing nature of the fruits on the side, and I was quite satisfied. YASSS TOTS So the next time you’re on the hunt for a fun snack in Magic Kingdom, I recommend stopping by The Friar’s Nook! If you don’t want to eat everything at once, you can always throw the Cutie and the apple slices in your park bag for later. 22. There are quite a few times when you’ll want to avoid Disney World if you’re averse to crowds! We LOVE it when the parks are this chill! There are some obvious answers, including major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving, as well as holiday weekends, Spring Break season, and the summer. But on top of that, Disney World can get busy with various rogue events, like runDisney races or cheerleading competitions. And now, we’ve got a warning about an upcoming weekend! If you’re heading to Disney World May 2nd-5th, you can likely expect heavier crowds because those are the dates of the 2024 Summit cheer competition. Crowds in Animal Kingdom The competition is traditionally held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, and during the dates when the teams are in town, the parks will be packed with teens and their families. Those attending the competition could purchase discounted tickets, so many take advantage of the value and use part of the trip as a vacation. Sunset Boulevard crowds If you’re traveling to Disney World during those dates and haven’t already made your plans, we suggest you do so ASAP. You’ll want to lock down any hotel reservations, Disney Park Pass reservations (if necessary), and dining reservations. Purchasing Disney Genie+ on those days may also be a good idea to avoid longer waits in the parks. Crowds at rope drop in Hollywood Studios Of course, we’ll be reporting on the crowds during those days and we’ll keep you updated if we spot anything unusual. We wish you the best of luck when navigating Disney World! Remember to be patient and set your expectations realistically. Stay tuned to DFB for more news and updates from the parks! 23. When you are in the mood for some New Orleans vibes, there is no better place to go than Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter. There are lots of fun decorations, and of course BEIGNETS! Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter However, before we all get too excited, we aren’t headed to get beignets. In fact, where we are going, they don’t even serve beignets. GASP! That’s right, we are headed to Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter, and our mission is not beignets. Instead, we are checking out a different dining option: the pool bar. Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter pays tribute to New Orleans. The resort is full of Mardi Gras spirit every day of the year! We are headed over to the Mardi Gras-themed pool, Doubloon Lagoon, to see what eats and drinks this resort has to offer poolside. Atmosphere Mardi Grogs is a pool bar at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. It is located near Doubloon Lagoon, the main pool at the resort. You can stop by for a quick drink or grab a table and stay for a bit. Let’s eat at Mardi Grogs! There are a variety of seating options at Mardi Grogs. You can grab a seat at the bar or opt for one of the tables nearby. You will head up to the bar to place your order with the cast member. Lots of bar seating We decided to make our way to one of the tables close by. There were lots of umbrellas out for the tables, and the chairs and benches all had cushions on them. Even more seating options nearby We loved that there was also a water station at Mardi Grogs, making it super simple to grab a cup of water. It was all set out so you could just fill up a cup and go. Now you don’t have to go all the way back to your room when you need to hydrate! You can even grab a cup of water here! Mardi Grogs is decorated with lots of fun patterns and a great light blue color. There was plenty of seating for people while we were there. Many people opted to grab and go, too, so even with a steady trickle of people, there were plenty of seating options. Let’s see what is on the menu! Now, let’s check out what is on the menu at Mardi Grogs. Menu Before we get to the food and drinks, let’s take a quick look at the Mardi Grogs menu! It is fairly small, but it has a lot of good options for a pool bar. You can choose from a variety of specialty drinks and non-alcoholic drinks. There is also a small menu of pool bites you can dine on. Mardi Grogs Menu Here is a closer look at the alcoholic drink options. There is a large variety of specialty drinks, and you can also get beer and wine. There are lots of classic tropical drinks like a Piña Colada, Mai Tai, Margarita, and Hurricane. Speciality Drinks, Beer, and Wine In addition to alcoholic drinks, you can also choose from a variety of non-alcoholic drinks and some pool bar bites. There is a variety of snacks offered here like a Roasted Turkey and Pimento Cheese Wrap and Charcuterie. Pool Bar Bites and Non-Alcoholic Drinks Those are the offerings at Mardi Grogs, so let’s take a look at what we ordered. Drinks & Food We got a variety of different items to try while hanging out by the pool! Here is a look at everything we got. Lookin’ yummy! The Full Spread To drink we got the Frozen Irish Coffee, which is a frozen blend of Jameson Irish Whiskey, Tia Maria Liqueur, and freshly brewed Joffrey’s Coffee. You can grab this drink for $17. This drink was super smooth and had lots of coffee flavor. It tastes pretty much exactly how you would expect: a frozen coffee slushy with a hint of Tia Maria Liqueur. You can definitely taste the Joffrey’s coffee, and we loved the addition of coffee grounds on top. The grounds added a great extra texture and also made this drink look fancier! It was very refreshing with lots of coffee flavor. Frozen Irish Coffee To eat, we started with the Hot Cajun Boiled Peanuts which cost $5.99. These came served in a paper cup, and we were also given a paper boat to make eating them easier. Hot Cajun Boiled Peanuts These boiled peanuts were served hot. While they weren’t as spicy as we were expecting them to be, we did get a nice Cajun taste. The shell was easy to pull apart and the peanuts were very plump and tender. If you are looking for more of a Cajun kick, we recommend getting some of the spices from the shell when you eat the peanuts from the inside. Hot Cajun Boiled Peanuts Next up, we got the Cajun Chicken Salad, which was spicy chicken with tomatoes, peppers, corn, pepper jack, and romaine with hot sauce-ranch dressing. The salad costs $11.99. Cajun Chicken Salad We got two different salads, and this was our favorite of the two. We appreciated that the lettuce was not as wet as it is usually in Disney World salads. We loved the combination of cheese, onions, corn, and the seasoning. It all worked really well together and made for a tasty salad. Cajun Chicken Salad The spice on the chicken was really the only Cajun aspect to this salad. Similar to the boiled peanuts, the Cajun spice on the chicken was noticeable with a low heat, but nothing crazy. We were definitely not seeking out the nearest glass of milk after finishing this salad. Cajun Chicken Salad Lastly, we tried the Mediterranean Curry-Chickpea Salad with Grilled Pita Bread and Tomato-Cucumber Salad. You can get this for $8.99. In this dish you get a side of chickpea-curry salad along with some pita bread, and tomato, cucumbers, and arugula. Mediterranean Curry-Chickpea Salad The chickpea salad tasted good and had lots of bright flavors. The pita bread was fresh and soft, but not anything special. This dish was best eaten with a bit of everything on top of the pita. The addition of the cucumbers, tomato, and arugula to the chickpea salad really brought this dish up a notch. There was lots of fresh herb taste, and it is definitely a dish that you won’t feel weighed down after eating. Mediterranean Curry-Chickpea Salad Overall We were impressed with the selection of food and drinks for a pool bar. There were a variety of pool bites, and we loved that they were light and healthy, so we didn’t feel bogged down. The food was all tasty, but nothing incredibly special. If you are looking for a hearty meal while at Port Orleans, this would not be you best option. It is perfect for a drink and a light bite while you are enjoying the pool or walking around the resort. However, Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter has a lot of other tasty options including Scat Cat’s Club and Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. We wish there was a bit more Cajun kick to the food options, but we still thought they tasted fresh and delicious! Nosh or Not? We think you should stop by Mardi Grogs if… You are staying at Port Orleans – French Quarter and looking for a light bite. If you are staying at the resort and are hoping to find a snack, Mardi Grogs would be an excellent option. The menu has a variety of light bites and you can wash it down with the beverage of your choice. This pool bar is probably not worth going out of your way to get to, but if you happen to be at Port Orleans — French Quarter it offers some good food and drinks. You want to dine outside by the pool. Mardi Grogs is a great option if you are wanting to get some fresh air. It is located right by the pool as well, so you can enjoy some food and then spend some time at the pool. You are looking for a good variety of poolside drinks. Mardi Grogs has a great selection of poolside drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. From Margaritas to Mai Tais, there is a lot of options. You may want to skip Mardi Grogs if… You are looking for a filling and hearty meal. You could opt for multiple items and likely fill yourself up, but Mardi Grogs is mainly offering snack items and light bites. If you are wanting a full meal, you can head inside to Scat Cat’s Club or Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. You want to enjoy your food in the air conditioning. While you could grab some food from Mardi Grogs and head inside to eat it, the seating at Mardi Grogs is all outside. There are umbrellas, but on hot days it may not be the most pleasant. You want to try some beignets! Chances are you may have ended up at Port Orleans — French Quarter to grab some beignets. The resort is well-known for them, but you won’t be able to get them at Mardi Grogs. Head inside to Scat Cat’s Club to snag your beignets. 24. Now is the perfect time to plan a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Disney’s Hollywood Studios The park is about to celebrate its 35th anniversary, an exclusive merchandise event is coming soon, and we’ve recently discovered some new favorite eats, too. But, while you’re doing your planning, you might want to make sure you’re not visiting Hollywood Studios on this particular date. Park Pass Reservations are totally sold out for ticket holders and hotel guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 5th! Hollywood Studios We checked the Disney World calendar and didn’t see anything too exciting happening on that date that may cause folks to flock to the park, and as of now, Disney hasn’t announced any special events taking place in that park. But, if you’re planning an upcoming trip to Disney World, it’s definitely something to be aware of! We do have a hunch that it could have something to do with another problem at Hollywood Studios you might run into on June 5th… Disney’s Hollywood Studios Not only are park passes sold out for select folks on June 5th, but Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be closing early at 5:30PM on that same date as well. Why is this happening? Well, it’s usually because of a special event for Cast Members or a private event of some kind. In this case, the SAP Sapphire & ASUG Annual Conference Orlando will be hosting a special event in Hollywood Studios that evening. Slinky Dog Dash So, if you’re planning on visiting Hollywood Studios on that day, you may want to rethink your plans and avoid that park since it will be closing early. 25. Disney has made a big push in recent years to bring the “at home” experience and the “in park” experience together. ©Disney We’ve seen talks of a “metaverse” (though you won’t catch CEO Bob Iger using that word anytime soon) and have even seen Disney integrate a shopping feature into Disney+. And now, this new update on Disney+ is bringing the theme parks into your living room in a way we’ve never seen before! Pixar Fest is happening now through August 4th at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure and brings special characters, merchandise, entertainment, snacks, and more to the parks in a brand-new way. This revamped festival has been the talk of the town amongst Disney fans lately, and it looks like Disney+ is getting in on the conversation, too! Gang’s all here for PIXAR FEST! When you click on a Pixar-produced film or short, you might just see a message at the top letting you know that “Disneyland Resort is celebrating Pixar Fest.” ©Disney From what we can tell, this message appears on the landing pages for all Pixar films on Disney+! It looks like Disney is trying to let people know that they can extend their at-home Pixar celebration by attending the festival in person. And, if that sounds like something you’re interested in — you have until August 4th to do so! ©Disney We checked out Pixar Fest for ourselves and had so much fun interacting with the rare characters, taking in all the special entertainment, and of course — eating all the limited-time snacks! On May 10th, Pixar Fest food booths will open up giving us even more opportunities to celebrate all things Pixar.
