  1. When you travel to any theme park, there are rules that need to be followed to keep everyone safe. Animal Kingdom Disney World is no different! However, since Disney has a variety of different experiences that other smaller theme parks don’t have, that means there are more rules to follow. If you’re heading to Disney World for the first time in 2025 or you haven’t been in a while, these are three rules you have to know Disney is REALLY enforcing right now. Hotel Cancelation Policy Starting this year, 2o25, Disney World’s hotel cancelation policy is different than it has been before. Now, if you cancel your hotel stay up to 8 days (or more) in advance of your stay, you won’t be penalized in any way. However, if you cancel 0-7 days before your trip, you’ll be charged your deposit (which is the cost of a one night stay at the hotel) and have no way to get it back. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Island Tower For some hotels, that’s around $150-$200, but for some others, it can be as high as $600-$700 depending on where you’re staying! Prior to this change, hotel stays could be canceled 5 days in advance with no penalty, so now things are a bit more strict. And if you’ve got a Disney World package, meaning your tickets and hotel reservation are packaged together, you can cancel 30 days in advance with no penalty, but canceling 2-29 days ahead of time, you’ll be charged $200. If you cancel 48 hours or less before your trip…you won’t get a refund on ANYTHING and will be charged your full package. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn If you’re concerned something might happen to your trip close to your arrival date, we do recommend getting travel insurance to help protect you from these unfortunate situations happening. Dining Reservation Cancelations Disney has changed their table service dining cancelation policy multiple times over the past few years, so if you haven’t ever been, or haven’t been in a while, things have likely changed. The rule of thumb for most table service restaurants is that your dining reservation can be canceled up to 2 hours in advance with no charge or penalty. If it’s sooner than 2 hours, you’ll be charged $10 per person — the same charge applies if you don’t show up to your reservation. Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue However, for the following restaurants, modifications to your dining time are not allowed once booked, and there’s a different penalty if you’re looking to cancel. Cinderella’s Royal Table: Cancel at least two hours in advance to avoid being charged the full cost of the experience per person Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue: Cancel at least one day in advance to avoid being charged the full cost of the experience per person Sangria University: Cancel at least one day in advance to avoid being charged the full cost of the experience per person La Cava Experience: Cancel at least one day in advance to avoid being charged $50 per person Monsieur Paul: Cancel at least three days in advance to avoid being charged $100 per person Victoria & Albert’s: Cancel at least five days in advance to avoid being charged $100 per person Takumi-Tei: Cancel at least two days in advance to avoid being charged $100 per person Magic Kingdom Dessert Parties: Cancel at least one day in advance to avoid being charged the full cost of the experience per person Rose & Crown Fireworks Dining Package: Cancel at least one day in advance to avoid being charged the full cost of the experience per person Spice Road Table Fireworks Dining Package: Cancel at least one day in advance to avoid being charged the full cost of the experience per person Entering Cinderella’s Royal Table If you’re on your way to the restaurant but are running behind, we recommend calling the restaurant as soon as possible to let them know you’re on your way! Luggage Isn’t Allowed on Disney Buses We desperately miss Disney’s Magical Express service, which would take you from the Orlando International Airport to your Disney World hotel for free, but now we have Mears Connect, which is a similar service, but isn’t free anymore. However, there is also a $2 bus option via the Lynx 311 route that will take you from MCO to Disney Springs and vice versa. Lynx 311 Airport pick-up/drop-off point While you can take buses from Disney Springs to your Disney hotel, you technically aren’t allowed to bring your luggage onto the Disney buses. So that means instead of being able to take free Disney World transportation, you may have to take an Uber or Lyft (or Minnie Van) to get to your hotel, which might end up costing you more than Mears Connect would have, BUT it will be cheaper than taking a rideshare to your Disney hotel from the airport! 3. Drinking Around the World at EPCOT certainly isn’t new, but it has definitely surged in popularity in recent years. But, how can you be sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck when it comes to the booze? Luckily for you, I happen to be a pro at doing Disney World on the cheap and also at drinking (for legal reasons, that’s a joke). Drinking Around the World at EPCOT can definitely add up quickly, so if you want to make sure you’re getting your money’s worth — here’s what to do. Listen, I love a Disney World cocktail as much as the next person, but let’s get one thing straight: those pre-mixed cocktails you ordered off the menu just don’t cut it when you’re looking to get the most for your money. But first, let me just say that you definitely DON’T want to be one of “those people” in EPCOT. You know, the ones who have had a liiiiiittle (or a lot) too much to drink and are making it everybody’s business? Yeah, we’re not doing that. La Cava Avocado Margarita What we ARE doing is drinking plenty of water and PACING OURSELVES so that we actually can Drink Around the World and don’t end up lost in the sauce in the Morocco Fez House (IYKYK). A cup of water for every drink is typically my rule of thumb, but on especially hot days drinking water is even more important. What’s better than a Mickey pretzel and beer? What you ultimately need to know, though, is that in order to get the most bang for your buck when drinking around the world — stick to beer, wine, and mixed drinks that are actually being made in front of you (meaning not the standard Disney ones that come out of a dispenser). Rosé Pétillant Méthode Traditionelle Champenoise, Rosé Sparkling Wine Pink Flamingo Don’t get me wrong, an Avocado Margarita at La Cava del Tequila hates to see me coming, but when it comes to getting the most value — or actually being able to keep track of the alcohol by volume in any given drink and therefore getting a good deal — I’m sticking with beer, wine, or liquor at any of the pavilions where that’s an option. Tequila shots in Mexico? Perfect. Some chocolate Mozart in Germany? Into it. La Cava tequila shot More often than not, cocktails are going to be the more expensive option rather than beer or wine, but in most cases, you’re getting far less alcohol in that mixed drink than you would be if you were to stick to a good ol’ IPA or glass of Cabernet — making the beer and wine the better value overall. Of course, we’re not here to yuck anyone else’s yum — you want that cocktail? GO FOR IT! They’re delicious and I’ll join you for a drink sometime. But, from a sheer money-saving standpoint, drinking beer or wine is far more effective! EPCOT’s World Showcase In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest updates from Disney World. 4. We FINALLY know what is replacing the former NBA Experience at Disney Springs! Well, we think we know, anyway. Previously the NBA Experience LEVEL99, an interactive, social entertainment experience known for its challenge rooms will open its first-ever Florida location in Disney Springs! This new addition will mark LEVEL99’s fifth location — a first-of-its-kind (okay, fifth) destination for real-world, challenge-based, social entertainment for adults featuring over 50 physical and mental challenges set in artistic environments. It’s essentially a giant, futuristic arcade and entertainment center. ©LEVEL99 Disney reportedly selected LEVEL99 after “a comprehensive review of the location-based entertainment industry.” “We are defining the category and setting the standard for out-of-home, interactive entertainment,” said LEVEL99 CEO and Founder Matthew DuPlessie, who leads the team behind LEVEL99. “After spending two decades in the location-based entertainment industry, it became clear there was consumer demand for a concept like this – a real unmet need. Our vision is to make ‘challenge rooms’ a mainstream concept, and the opportunity to open at a marquee location like Disney Springs is the next step in our plans to expand the LEVEL99 brand nationally.” ©LEVEL99 DuPlessie launched the first escape room style concept in the world back in 2004, and later opened the first LEVEL99 location in 2021. The company’s proprietary entertainment offerings “are developed in the company’s game design studio where creators and engineers dream up and produce a variety of new challenges every year to keep the experience fresh and ever changing.” The Disney Springs location will be the largest LEVEL99 to date with over 60 challenge rooms and duels. It will occupy over 45,000 square feet in a two-story space (which we’re assuming is the former NBA Experience) and will feature dining with a chef-crafted menu — including LEVEL99’s award-winning, Detroit-style pizza. ©LEVEL99 A Fictitious Name filing was published in the Orlando Sentinel on February 19th, listing “Level99” as the registered name for Open World Entertainment LLC, operating at 1486 East Buena Vista Drive, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830 — which would match up with the NBA Experience location. We can’t wait to learn more and experience it for ourselves! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest news from Disney World. 6. If this latest update from Universal’s Epic Universe doesn’t get you hyped, we’re not sure we can help you! ©WESH Ever since news broke of Universal’s newest Orlando park and all of its themed worlds (and its delicious-looking eats) coming in 2025 we’ve been very busy gathering any and all updates as they’ve come. We’ve scoped out the newest updates to construction on the park and have already stayed in one of the newest Universal hotels to put us as close to the action as possible! However, Universal recently flexed a bit of the new technology we can expect to find within one of the immersive worlds and it has us screaming in an ear-deafening tone! Not just any dragon though, a baby dragon, at that! WESH captured footage of Dart the Dragon testing with Universal Team Members and performing a few basic “commands” as we’ll call them! He’s able to stand on all fours… ©WESH …move his head with facial expression including blinking… ©WESH …trot around in circles… ©WESH …and is even MOBILE! Look at that good dragon sitting. The best part of what we noticed about this testing with Dart is there are no wires surrounding him. ©WESH During this testing, a Team Member seemed to be acting towards a group gathered and Dart’s movements seemed to be acting in tandem response to what the Team Member was doing. Could we see an impromptu show out on the streets with these dragons? We’ll find out soon! ©WESH You’ll find Dart and a few other dragons roaming the Isle of Berk when Epic Universe opens and we’re certain that adults and kids alike will be vying for their chance to see these little guys up close soon. If we weren’t already excited for How To Train Your Dragon to finally come in full force to Universal, this is definitely beyond more than we thought possible before now! You’ll find us hanging out with our new dragon friends when Epic Universe opens on May 22nd, 2025. We’re counting down the days together until Epic Universe officially opens! 8. When you go to a theme park like Disney World, you’re likely already expecting there to be rules to follow. EPCOT For example — no running, no horseplay, no vulgar words or disrespect towards other guests or the workers at the park — these are all the rules you expect, but Disney World parks come with a few additional rules that may have you giving them a second glance. EPCOT, in particular, has a few rules you’ll definitely want to know about before you plan to spend a whole day there! Drinking Around The World Has A Specific Start Time Drinking around EPCOT’s World Showcase Pavilion is what brings a lot of people to EPCOT to begin with, and we totally see why! Nowhere else can you visit eleven different countries (essentially) and try dining options specific to each one. However, if you’re planning to go drinking around the world, you need to know you can’t start until 11 AM. La Hacienda de San Angel This is because most EPCOT restaurants and bar/lounge locations in World Showcase don’t open until 11 AM! There are a few exceptions, such as character dining spot Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Norway, but that’s not where you’d go to drink around the world. So when you’re planning your EPCOT trip, keep this in mind! Prepare For Motion Sickness Double Time While motion sickness can hit different people for different reason, EPCOT is home to two of the attractions that seem to cause motion sickness most commonly in people — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Mission: SPACE. This is especially true for Mission: SPACE, as it’s the only attraction in the entire resort that has bags inside each ride vehicle in case someone gets sick. Mission SPACE That being said, if you’re prone to motion sickness in any way, we strongly suggest staying far AWAY from these rides, or being sure you have your anti-nausea medication to take before or after the attraction. Trust us, you don’t want to feel awful for the entire rest of your park day. If You Want to Ride Cosmic Rewind, You Might Want to Rope Drop There are two ways to ride Cosmic Rewind — you can pay for a Lightning Lane Single Pass, which can get pricey, especially for those with larger families, or, starting February 25th, you can wait in the standby line. (Disney just announced that it is ending the virtual queue for this ride!). Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind So while you may have previously planned to rope drop Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure or Frozen Ever After, we’re guessing you’ll see the shortest lines for Guardians at rope drop. If you’re not into getting up early, try getting in line just before the park closes for the night. You Can’t Bring A Sword In…But You Can Buy One One of Disney World’s rules states that “Firearms, ammunition, knives and weapons of any kind” as well as “Objects or toys that appear to be firearms or weapons” are prohibited from being brought into the parks. However, in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion, you can visit Mitsukoshi, an iconic store filled with many different kinds of souvenirs similar to those you’d find in Japan. And funny enough, that includes katanas! Katanas in Mitsukoshi If you’d like to purchase a sword and then ship it home nearly immediately to not worry about having to pack it in your checked luggage (you won’t be able to bring it in your carry-on), you can ship it from Mitsukoshi right then and there. However, you are allowed to carry it around with you throughout the rest of the park, but be warned that taking it out and wielding it will likely not be met with a good response from security. However, these swords are relatively dull, so keep that in mind as well. 9. When you’re planning your Disney World trip, you have to figure out a lot of things, including how long you’re staying where you’re staying, what tickets you need, what to pack, what to eat (our FAVORITE decision to make about a Disney World trip), and more. Driving to Disney World However, you’ll also need to figure out how you’re getting to Disney World. Although many visitors fly into Orlando International Airport, many others also drive. If you’re driving to Disney World, we’ve got some great news: Orlando is one of the TOP TEN cities in the U.S. to drive in, according to WalletHub. WalletHub ranked Orlando at #6 in its list of Best & Worst Cities to Drive In. It’s only beat out by Jacksonville, FL; Greensboro, NC; Corpus Christi, TX; Boise, ID; and Raleigh, NC. WalletHub looked at cheap, smooth, and safe driving experiences to make this list, comparing 100 of the largest U.S. cities across 30 indicators of how driver-friendly they were. That includes looking at average gas prices, traffic congestion, and the likelihood of accidents. ©WalletHub According to Chip Lupo, one of WalletHub’s analysts, “Car prices have gone up significantly over the past few years, and gas remains expensive going into the summer travel season. Living in one of the best cities to drive in can make owning and maintaining a car much cheaper. However, costs aren’t the only factors that matter; the best cities for drivers also minimize commute times and traffic congestion, have accident rates well below the national average and keep their roads in good condition.” Driving around Disney World Given the cost of airfare continuing to increase, driving could be a viable option for your next Disney World trip and could save you some money, in the end. Of course, you’ll need to figure out your budget and what works for you, but it could be something worth considering if you live close enough to drive or make a road trip to Disney World. Driving to Hollywood Studios If you DO decide to drive to Disney World, you can still use Disney World transportation to get around the resort, so you’ll want to keep that in mind, too. Disney World hotel guests get free overnight parking at the hotel they’re staying at, as well as free parking at the parks. We’ll keep an eye out for more, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 11. Ever since it opened in 2019, the Disney Skyliner has been one of the most popular transportation methods on Walt Disney World property. Disney World’s Skyliner The mass gondola system connected two of Disney World’s theme parks and four of the park’s resorts in an ever-moving transportation loop that allows guests to glide through the air between them. With the system’s popularity and efficiency, it only makes use that many guests want the Skyliner to be expanded beyond its current route. However, that seems unlikely. Currently the Skyliner’s path connects EPCOT (with a terminal at the park’s back International Gateway entrance) and Disney’s Hollywood Studios with four of the property’s resorts: the Riviera Resort, the Caribbean Beach Resort, the Pop Century Resort, and the Art of Animation Resort (the latter two sharing a single station in the middle of the lake between them). As can be seen on the system’s map, all of these locations are relatively in line with each other, and close by. This brings us to the first issue with connecting the Skyliner to say, Animal Kingdom or the Magic Kingdom. ©Disney Animal Kingdom is far from the current Skyliner route on the western portion of Disney World’s property, with the All-Star Resorts, Coronado Springs Resort, and Blizzard Beach in between the park and the core of the Skyliner’s route. It would be a large and immensely costly project to weave a Skyliner expansion through these properties to reach Animal Kingdom. The case is similar when it comes to Magic Kingdom. While the park and its resort area at the northern end of the property are more of a “straight shot” from EPCOT, it would still take a massive amount of construction to weave the line through the various properties that sit between the two parks. In addition, the Magic Kingdom resort area is also connected to EPCOT (and interconnected) by the Walt Disney World Monorail, the track of which any potential Skyliner expansion would need to maneuver around. Skyliner Speaking of the Monorail, we can look towards that method of transportation as “proof” that the Skyliner will never be expanded. The Monorail line, while popular amongst guests, has not been expanded since EPCOT opened in 1982, for many of the same infrastructure and cost reasons that will likely hamper Skyliner expansion. In addition to these cost reasons, there’s another practical hurdle in the way of further Skyliner expansion: Weather. As popular and well-received as the gondola system is, weather-related closures have been the one Achilles’ heel that has worked against it since it opened. It seems unlikely that Disney would invest the massive required capital in an expansion to Animal Kingdom and/or Magic Kingdom for a system that often needs to be shut down due to weather that’s relatively common in Florida. Skyliner Despite the popularity and success of Disney’s Skyliner system, it seems unlikely to us that the route will be expanded to the resort’s other theme parks for several major reasons. 13. Every now and then, a new Disney snack comes along that really makes us scratch our heads. But then, a Disney snack will come along that makes us wonder where it’s been hiding our whole lives. Bengal Barbecue And, this latest treat we’re reviewing definitely falls into the latter category — but for more reasons than you might think. We’re headed to Disneyland to get our hands on this new drink and we’re bringing you with us! We’re happy to say that yes — it does! To us, it seemed thicker like a milkshake than a true milk consistency. It has cold foam and sprinkles on top, and the cold foam has more of a vanilla pudding consistency and a cream cheese taste to it. There are strawberry chunks at the bottom, and when paired with the thin chocolate pieces, it tastes like a chocolate-covered strawberry! We thoroughly enjoyed this drink. It was super unique, tasty, and refreshing! We’d give it a 5/5 for taste and 1000/1000 for uniqueness! Strawberry Milk In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the newest snacks to review from Disneyland and more. Don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news! 14. Trying all of the food and drinks Disney World has to offer has been my mission for years! Have you ever seen something so beautiful? If you can find it in Disney World, chances are we’ve eaten it all and probably a few times over for some. We’ve got our list of favorites that we’re known to always crave on any given day out at Disney World’s parks, but what you might not know about us is that we’re not satisfied just to let things lie there. No, here, we like to really dig deep and get creative with our meals and snack hacks. So, that’s why when we’re after Corn Dog Nuggets, there’s no telling what we’ll do when we get our hands on them! So here’s the deal, we’re HUGE fans of Disney World’s corn dog nuggets — like, if they had their own club, we’d be the presidents. These delicious little bites made of golden crust folded around little hot dogs are something of a miracle on their own and truly are one of our “go-to” snacks when we’re hanging out at the park for the day. The vessel for our plastic cheeeeese However, they’re also kind of a rarity around Disney World since they’re not as prevalent as some of the other foods we like as snacks like Disney popcorn or a Mickey pretzel. So, when we get an opportunity to pick up these little guys and sit down on the warm hub grass to grub on a nice day, we take it! As we mentioned earlier, these aren’t a snack you can get just anywhere, so first and foremost, if you’re on the hunt for corn dog nuggs, you’ve gotta know where to look! Enjoy your corn dog nuggets in the hub! At Magic Kingdom, you can pick these guys up at Casey’s Corner along with other options of jazzed-up hot dogs to enjoy… Corn Dog Nuggets …at Westward Ho Refreshments in Frontierland… Westward Ho Refreshments …and over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’re sleeping on the chance to snag them over at KRNR The Rock Station! Corn Dog Nuggets You might also find them at a table service restaurant like on the lunch and dinner menu seasonally at Hollywood & Vine… Mini Corn Dog Nuggets (2022) …as well as at the Disney World hotels like at Disney’s Contemporary Resort‘s quick service restaurant, Contempo Cafe. We’ll be back for more! Yeah, when these nuggets see us coming, they know to quake in fear because they’re definitely the apple of our eyes. As much as we love to pop them in our mouth and enjoy them just as they are though, we’ve learned a few tips and tricks to help really amp up those flavors with them! Take Casey’s Corner for example, this is one of the most iconic eats in all of Disney World made even better by the addition of cheese sauce. Corn Dog Nuggets with PLASTIC CHEESE You may know it best around here by the loving nickname we’ve dubbed it — “plastic cheese” — and that’s because it’s just soooo good! It’s the perfect addition to drizzle over your corn dog nuggets or dunk them in to their warm melted cup. Dip that baby in the cheese Honestly, once you get a hold of cheese sauce with them it’s really hard to go back to just eating these nuggets any other way but there’s plenty of other toppings too you can snag to amp it up a bit more. If you’re more of the chili cheese dog lover, you may want to grab them with a side of chili too (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the nearest quick service restaurant to order this from is Rosie’s All-American Cafe) and then you can mix and dunk until your heart’s content. Cup of chili Don’t get us wrong though– you can’t mess up a classic option either with typical condiments like ketchup, mustard, and even for the brave, a little mayo. Seriously though, the possibilities with these guys is endless and it can kind of go as far as your imagination will let you run wild with it (this has to be how they thought up Totchos, right?) These come pre-dressed Well, at least now you know, not only do we really love these tasty bites of corn dogs that you can pick up in multiple Disney World parks, you’ll now know some of our favorite ways to dress them up and enhance their flavor! Be sure you’re following along with us so you don’t miss any of the latest Disney news, updates, and more! 19. The EPCOT Festival of the Arts is coming to a close on February 24th, but there are still a few days to soak up everything the event has to offer! Welcome to the EPCOT Festival of the Arts! This is one of our favorite EPCOT festivals because not only is the food incredible, but it’s so interactive with spin art, a massive paint-by-number mural that you can help complete, the new Disney on Broadway exhibit, live performances, and so much more. Speaking of live performances, one of the highlights in EPCOT right now is the Disney on Broadway concert series and while we were visiting on February 18th, 2025, there was a special surprise! The Disney on Broadway Concert Series happens at night throughout the festival and features a rotation of performers who have been in Disney shows on Broadway! On February 18th, we came to watch the incredible Rodney Ingram from “Aladdin” and Kara Lindsay from “Newsies” sing. Disney on Broadway Concert Series But during the show, Rodney Ingram announced that there was a surprise for Kara…and he was right! A few of the Newsies boys came out to surprise her! After a lively performance of “King of New York”, Kara and Adam Kaplan, one of the surprise Newsies boys who understudied Jack Kelly on Broadway, sang “Something to Believe In”. Awwwww! 21. It may have just felt like a normal Tuesday to most of us, but Disney World decided February 18th was the day to announce some MASSIVE Disney news! Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Disney just announced that as of February 25th, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT will no longer require a Virtual Queue and will instead switch to a standby line. Some guests are excited about this change, but many others? Well, let’s just say they’re not happy. This means that instead of having to wake up at 7 AM to grab a spot in the Virtual Queue or try again at 1 PM once you’re in EPCOT or Magic Kingdom, the ride will now switch to standby, meaning no one will need a Virtual Queue to ride. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind However, many fans are upset about this for Cosmic Rewind simply because the demand for the ride is so large, they’re expecting for lines to be massive. When we shared the news on our Instagram, we were quickly flooded with comments from multiple readers with concerns. User @bradsdisney shared, “I don’t even think the [guardians] queue line will be big enough to contain the main queue!” Cosmic Rewind Queue Many other readers stated that since EPCOT has TWO rides closed at the moment (Test Track, which won’t be open until this summer, and Gran Fiesta Tour, which is set to reopen in March) this is NOT a great decision. User @ztodd19photography shared, “That’s great, but these first couple years are gonna be some long lines. Because it’s clearly the best ride in Epcot. And with Test Track under construction, all ride traffic will be right there. They should’ve waited till Test Track was finished to make [the] flow of traffic easier.” Cosmic Rewind Comments from readers saying that they’re upset now they won’t be able to ride Cosmic Rewind on their trip are still coming in every few minutes, with users like @emimacc saying, “I’m so worried for [guardians!] I mean I would love to ride it a million times but don’t want to wait hours.” It’s true that this change will cause wait times to soar for this attraction, and many guests much rather prefer the Virtual Queue instead of standby lines. 22. We’re big fans of the majority of the restaurants in Disney Springs, because while you can find some hidden gems in the parks, the fantastic dining options are usually outside those park gates. Disney Springs One of our favorites is The Polite Pig, which is home to some great barbecue options. We found out there was a new option here that we had to try, but we’ll be honest, it totally wasn’t what we were expecting. The Polite Pig is located in the Town Center section of Disney Springs and is home to barbecue classics with a unique twist such as Glazed Chicken Wings, BBQ Cheddar Bites, Low & Slow Brisket, Fried Chicken, and so much more. The Polite Pig Their newest offering on the menu is their Smoked Turkey Leg for $24. This is a turkey leg complete with a rootbeer glaze over it. We typically don’t recommend turkey legs, but we were hoping this one would be an exception. Smoked Turkey Leg Now this this was MASSIVE and we think would be easily shareable, however we were very disappointed by the flavor and quality. While it was super sticky and appeared to be lathered in the rootbeer glaze when we got it, we couldn’t taste the rootbeer flavor anywhere. Unfortunately all that glaze has no flavor The turkey itself was also very tough and dry, so the glaze did nothing to ease that. In fact, we were shocked because despite how messy it was at the start, we couldn’t taste any of the glaze after we took our photos, it was as if the glaze had disappeared or soaked into the turkey, but it wasn’t any more moist. It looked great, but the taste was far from it It was extremely tough to bite through and had no flavor, so overall we were very unimpressed. However, it does come with your choice of a side, as well as coleslaw and a piece of cornbread. We chose mac and cheese as our side and were very impressed with both that and the cornbread, but the coleslaw fell a little flat for us. Overall, we think it’s better to get the sides rather than get the turkey leg, especially for $24! More Recent Reviews! 23. I get paid to talk (and talk, and talk, and talk) about Disney. I know more than the average (normal?) person, and I probably talk about Disney too much. In fact, let me do a little impression of my family for you: “You’re going to Disney World…again?” It’s around this time when I try to justify my decision by explaining that my trips are educational; I’m here sharing my tips with you, aren’t I?! So, please, for my sake, listen to my advice, and tell us if you learned something. Maybe then my frequent trips to Disney World won’t seem so bad. Pop Century Resort OK, so why am I here? Well, I’ve been doing some reflecting, and I’ve come to a few conclusions in the never-ending Uber vs. Mears debate. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, basically, there are two main ways to get to Disney World from Orlando Airport: 1.) Rideshare services like Uber or Lyft, or 2.) Mears Connect (a shuttle service). I’ve used Uber, Lyft, AND Mears to get to Disney World, but there are a few things I wish I had known about my Uber experience. 1. There’s no “Regular Uber” When I’m trying to get to my Disney hotel from the airport, I don’t need anything fancy. I don’t need the V.I.P. treatment; I just need a safe, reliable way to get from Point A to Point B. Translation: give me the cheap, regular Uber, not the premium Uber Black. ©Uber Looking at a sample trip from the Orlando Airport to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, there are several types of rides available at any given time. You’ve got the “Premium” category with Uber Black. Then, there’s the “Economy” category, which might sound like the cheapest option, right? WRONG. This is where things get confusing. ©Uber Believe it or not, in most cases, UberX is the cheapest option. With a name like “UberX,” you (like me) might think, “This is the fancy one.” But it’s not! Uber gets a failing grade from me regarding the names of its rides — it can be confusing! ©Uber So, if you want to take a “regular Uber,” your best bet is to go with the UberX. It’s described as an “affordable ride all to yourself,” and this option seats up to four people. If you’ve got a bigger group, you might need the XL, which seats up to six. The good news is that the prices are typically sorted from lowest to highest, so just do a quick scroll down the line to make sure you’re getting the best deal based on your needs. 2. Don’t trust the prices — ever Remember how I said Uber can be confusing? Well, I hate to say it, but the confusion doesn’t end with the names. Let’s say you want to estimate the cost of your Uber ride, so you run a sample trip from the airport to your hotel on the app before your trip. Let’s say the price for an UberX is $38. Not too bad, eh? Well, don’t trust that price. Uber Depending on the time of day, available drivers in the area, and the demand, the price for the SAME DESTINATION can SKYROCKET, thanks to surge pricing. I ended up paying close to $65 for a ride previously listed at $38. And before you ask, yes, that was the cheapest option at the time. ©Uber Admittedly, this makes it hard to build a budget for ridesharing in Disney World. One day, your trip could be under $40, the next, it could be double that price. 3. Sometimes, it’s just about luck! Now, I have also used the Mears Connect shuttle service to get to Disney World several times, and that service has its own set of pros and cons. On one hand, it might be cheaper than Uber or Lyft. On the other hand, you might have to visit multiple stops before the bus driver drops you off at your hotel, which can add a lot of time to your journey. Inside a Mears Connect bus That said, I’ve been lucky enough to hop on a Mears bus with NO extra stops (even without paying for a private ride through Mears), so sometimes, it all comes down to timing and luck. The same thing goes for Uber — you might time it juuust right and find an Uber driver right where you need them with no wait. Either way, you’re at the mercy of the service you select — that’s the cost of going to Disney World without a car! 24. We have a bit of a frenemy situation going on with the My Disney Experience app. On one hand, we use it practically every day since we’re in the parks on a daily basis. We use the app to mobile order food, look for nearby water bottle refill stations, and even skip long checkout lines at busy gift shops. But the app is far from perfect. In fact, we have some grievances, and it’s time we get them off our chest. Magic Kingdom If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, one of the first things you need to do is download the My Disney Experience app. You’ll need it to book dining reservations, check into your Disney hotel, join virtual queues, and look at PhotoPass photos. So, yes, it is an essential part of your vacation. After using the app a LOT (like, a lot), there are a few things we wish we could change. Let’s talk about it! Park Pass Reservations OK, this one might not impact everyone, but if you’re an Annual Passholder, you probably know what we’re about to say. For a little context, certain groups of people (like Annual Passholders and others with non-date-based tickets) must book a Park Pass Reservation before they can visit a Disney World theme park. Magic Kingdom The process of booking a Park Pass is pretty straightforward, but we have noticed a pretty irritating problem with the My Disney Experience app. Every time we try to book a Park Pass in the app… ©Disney …the app kicks us over to the Disney World website! That means we have to log in to our My Disney Experience account all over again, and we can’t view our plans while we try to book a reservation. ©Disney What’s up with that, Disney? Why can’t we book Park Passes in the app? ©Disney The process is pretty annoying if you ask us. My Plans Speaking of strange app decisions, here’s something else we don’t quite understand. Why are our plans split into two different places?! Anyone else get mixed up between “Today’s Plans” and “Future Plans”? ©Disney Ideally, we would prefer it if ALL our plans were in one place. If you’re a planner like us, it’s nice to have a clear, concise list of everything going on during your vacation. Hey, Disney? Our best advice? Simplify! There’s too much going on here. ©Disney To be fair, this is coming from someone who is not an app designer, so we don’t necessarily have a better design in mind. But from a user standpoint, the plan section of the app feels a little confusing sometimes! Transportation We’ve been saying this for AGES. If the Skyliner or Monorail is temporarily closed due to weather conditions, TELL US in the app! We can’t even tell you how many times we have walked all the way over to the Skyliner only to find out it’s closed due to lightning in the area. And if you’re in EPCOT, the bus stop is VERY far away from the Skyliner station. Skyliner Oh, and while we’re at it, we would love to see the exact operating hours for the Skyliner and Monorail in the app. Currently, the app just tells us that the Skyliner closes, “90 minutes after EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios closes,” which, without knowing the park hours off the top of your head, isn’t super helpful. ©Disney This feels like a pretty easy thing to fix, so let’s make it happen, Disney! Please? EPCOT Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? Reach out to our friends at Small World Vacations! 25. Table service restaurants in Disney World can be great, but sometimes they’re hard to grab reservations for. Whispering Canyon Cafe Thankfully, some of these restaurants have lounges attached to them, and while those sometimes have walk-up waitlists that can take some time to get on, it’s often way easier than getting a table service reservation. Even better, sometimes these lounges share kitchens with main table service restaurants, so you can get very similar offerings! We stopped by Territory Lounge at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge to see if this tucked-away spot is worth the trip over, and BOY do we have some thoughts! Atmosphere This lounge is just outside of Storybook Dining at Artist Point which can get quite loud, so we do recommend sitting at the bar or selecting a table toward the back of the lounge to cut down on noise from the hallway. Territory Lounge However, the rustic decor and dark woods of territory lounge match the overall feel of Wilderness Lodge. This is a cozy space with leather chairs and wall decor including wildlife and western scenes that Lewis and Clark could have seen on their expedition, which totally matches with the exploration vibe. The ceiling even includes a large explorers’ map! Territory Lounge But what can you snack on while you’re here? Let’s take a look! Menu The menu here is relatively small. One menu shows you the Featured Cocktails available (at the time of writing there are seven of them) and the Shareable Bites (at the time of writing there are seven of them as well). Menu There’s also a menu available to show you what Beer and Wine options are available. Beer and Wine Menu Some of these options won’t be for everyone, but if this menu looks to be of interest to you, then let’s dig in! Drinks We were sad to find that this lounge didn’t have any mocktail options, but we did grab the The Northwoods for $16, which is made with Bulleit Rye Whiskey, Citrus Juices, house-made rosemary syrup. The Northwoods This was a really well balanced cocktail, as far as Disney lounges go! We were afraid the rosemary was going to be overpowering, but it wasn’t at all. It provides an herb-y flavor that balances the other citrus and acid flavors, and overall it’s not so strong that it could be off-putting. It had a great sweetness as well as acidity thanks to the citrus, so we were impressed! Food To dine on, we grabbed the Territory Popcorn Sampler for $12.75 which includes Spicy, Caramel, Sea Salt, Truffle, and barbecue flavored popcorn. Territory Popcorn Sampler Here’s the thing: This is SO overpriced. These flavors are fun and the idea is great, but you’re getting what amounts to about 3 handfuls of popcorn of each flavor and that’s just not worth it for the price. We would recommend this if it were $7-$9, but $12.75 is just far too much. Not a lot of popcorn per mix The popcorn was delicious, though! We enjoyed each flavor individually, with the truffle and caramel being our favorites. It was also fun to combine different flavors — we especially liked the combo of sea salt and caramel. All of these flavors are made in-house, including the caramel. One warning here — the spicy popcorn is actually spicy. Sometimes, when Disney calls things spicy, it means there is a hint of mild spice, but the spicy popcorn here is HOT. We also grabbed the Bacon on a Wire which is candied bacon, deviled eggs, and bourbon drizzle for $25. These deviled eggs have toppings — one has fried shrimp, one has salmon, and one has beef jerky. The problem here is that the toppings are not listed on the menu, so if you have food allergies, it could be an issue. Our server was fantastic in explaining this and offered modifications though, which we appreciated. Bacon on a Wire The candied bacon is thick cut and very high quality with a sweet glaze that we loved. The deviled eggs were standard, but were a great creamy foil to the chewy bacon. We were a little unsure what we were supposed to do with the bourbon glaze though — it was thin, not thick like a reduction. It had a nice sweetness to it, but when we poured it over the deviled eggs it just slid off to the bottom of the dish and didn’t add much. Overall though, if you’re a fan of bacon and deviled eggs, this is certainly a choice you might enjoy! Deviled Eggs Finally we got the Spicy Macaroni and “Cheese” for $18, which is a plant-based meal! This is chorizo-style “sausage”, pepper jack “cheese”, whistle pig 10-year straight rye whiskey, pickled chiles, spiced gremolata. Spicy Macaroni and “Cheese” Now, we did have two reporters here — one that is a plant-based eater, and one that isn’t, so we have both reviews for you! The non plant-based eater really enjoyed the dish! It’s labeled as spicy, but unlike the spicy popcorn, it’s pretty mild. There are pickled chiles on top that will spice it up, but if you don’t want spicy, it’s easy to eat around them. The sauce here is creamier than expected, and our reporter would not have been able to guess that the sauce is non-dairy. The sausage had a lot of flavor, and while it’s shareable, if you’re very hungry, one person could eat it as a meal. A closer look Our plant-based eater said that this is not going to give you that creamy gooey mac & cheese of your wildest dreams, but the pasta was perfectly al dente and coated in seasoning. However, this is a drier macaroni than what you will find with other non-vegan options elsewhere on property. They said it doesn’t even taste cheesy necessarily — it’s more like a pasta dish with really delicious vegan sausage, fried onions, and pickled chilies which are a spicy but delicious treat (but not so spicy they overpower the whole dish). If you are vegan, we think you will absolutely love this dish and if you are not, and are expecting some kind of traditional mac & cheese dish, then we think you will be disappointed. Now it’s time for dessert, which is a secret menu item at this lounge! Since the lounge is connected to Whispering Canyon Cafe, you can get the Flourless Chocolate Cake for $15 if you ask politely and it’s available. Flourless Chocolate Cake This chocolate cake is served with two scoops of ice cream and the cake itself was slightly warm when it arrived. We liked that the ice cream was served in a separate dish so it wasn’t melting more quickly! This is a dark, rich, dense sponge cake with some ganache on top. It’s a great sweet treat to end the evening, but since it’s so rich, you’ll likely want to share! Nosh or Not This lounge won’t be for everyone, but we think you’ll really enjoy this spot if: You’re staying at Wilderness Lodge and don’t want to grab a dining reservation You, or someone in your party, is a plant-based eater You’re looking for a more relaxed area to grab a drink Wilderness Lodge Signage However, we don’t think it’ll be the best fit if: You have pickier eaters in your party You’re not already staying at Wilderness Lodge You’re looking for a meal that’s on the more budget-friendly side Be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney World news!
