  1. If you have questions about the Disney Cruise Line, you’ve come to the right place! Disney Magic Cruise Ship Whether it’s your 100th voyage or your first, keeping up with the experiences the Disney Cruise line offers is never a bad idea. Whether you’re looking for pools, shows, or fun dining experiences, the Disney Cruise Line fleet has you covered. However, while gambling on cruise ships is a pretty standard practice, is it available aboard any of the Disney Cruise Line ships? Disney DOES offer some more adult-friendly cruises, so does that mean it also has the same adult-centered features like casinos that OTHER cruise ships have? The answer is no, not exactly. ©Disney Remember, the Disney Cruise Line is very different from other cruise lines. At the end of the day — even with Disney’s adult-focused areas — Disney still takes a lot of pride in their ships being family-friendly. The idea of Mickey Mouse playing a round of blackjack or Daisy Duck hitting the slots might not give the best message to our younger cruise friends. Disney Wish docked at Castaway Cay That doesn’t mean you can’t win a little extra cha-CHING while you’re onboard a Disney ship! Technically, you can still gamble by playing Bingo! We’re talking about a different kind of “Bingo” ©Disney Bingo does cost extra on the Disney Cruises, but you have the potential to walk away with a lot more money than you spent. There are TWO main Bingo options you can choose to pay for: either the traditional paper cards with daubers OR you can get a BUNCH of electronic cards (we’re talking 48+) on a tablet that you rent out. Aboard the Disney Treasure While it’s fun to be more hands-on with the Bingo game and go the traditional paper route, your chances of winning a Bingo game drastically increase when you rent out the electronic boards that keep track of each board for you. And don’t worry about an electronic board being BORING. Disney really plays up their Bingo games. So even if you don’t win a cent, you’re still gonna be thoroughly entertained. ©Disney So, while you won’t be able to hit the tables and win back all the money you spent on the cruise, there’s still plenty of fun to be had and stakes to be wagered! Do you mind that there aren’t any casinos on the Disney Cruise Line? Do you think the ships would be better off including them, or has Disney made the right call? 4. Recently, the internet has been dissecting the viral “Airport Theory” with mixed reactions. The theory suggests that you can arrive at an airport just 20–30 minutes before your flight without any real issues, contrary to what airline companies may warn. Orlando International Airport If you tend to arrive at the airport as late as possible, you might want to listen up, though. A new Delta Air Lines announcement might force you to rethink your plans. Here’s what we know. Delta Air Lines just announced a new rule for travelers who check their bags on a domestic flight. According to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, Delta recently sent customers an email stating that all bags for domestic flights must be checked at least 45 minutes before departure. This rule is effective as of now. Orlando International Airport Most airlines have a similar rule, and typically, you must check your bags between at least 30 minutes to an hour before your flight departs. In this case, Delta’s new rule fits within the standard cutoff window. Orlando Airport gets long lines at security Keep in mind that the cutoff time may vary depending on the airport. For example, per the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, JFK Airport in New York requires you to check your bags 60 minutes before departure. Check the rules while booking your flight so you aren’t caught off guard, and we recommend you arrive at the airport as early as possible (typically three hours before departure) to ensure you don’t miss your flight. Orlando International Airport Delta Air Lines asks its passengers to arrive at the airport two hours before departure for domestic flights, though at places like Orlando Airport, we recommend getting there as early as possible. We’ve seen the security lines reach 40+ minute waits in Orlando. Orlando International Airport Many airports also share the current TSA wait times on their website. For example, the security wait times are posted on the homepage of the Orlando Airport website. ©Orlando Airport Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? 5. We are getting SO close to the opening of Epic Universe! We recently got a chance to preview Universal’s newest theme park, and Universal recently announced previews for Annual Passholders, 2025 Military Freedom Pass Ticket Holders, Universal Rewards Signature VISA Card members, and guests staying at any Universal Orlando hotel. However, we still can’t wait for the official grand opening on May 22nd, 2025! SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Epic Universe features five themed lands from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic to Dark Universe. There is something for everyone at this immersive park, and the excitement has been growing. If you are heading to Epic Universe, and one of your number one goals is to get as many attractions done as possible in a short amount of time, then you might want to consider utilizing single rider lines. However, single rider lines aren’t going to be for everyone, so we want to make sure you understand them before you decide to hop in one! Mine Cart Madness Currently, Single Rider Lines are listed as being available at Mine-Cart Madness, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, Curse of the Werewolf, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, and Stardust Racers. Remember that even though these attractions are listed as having Single Rider Lines, the single rider option is subject to availability, and it can close or open at any time. Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment Now, let’s talk a bit about what to expect with single rider lines. For starters, it is not a guarantee that a single rider line will be shorter than a stand-by line. Team Members may be able to give you an estimate on wait time, but they also may not know how long you might wait. Depending on the size of the line and the size of parties that are in the normal lines, you could be waiting just as long in the single rider line. Usually, Team Members try to monitor the line and close it off when it is getting long, but don’t always count on that. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry As well, in the single rider line, you may not experience the full queue. The queue for single riders may skip sections or route you completely differently. Many of the attractions have highly themed queues, so you may be missing out on part of the experience if you use the single rider line. If you are worried about missing the queue, you can also ask a Team Member about what you will/won’t be able to see. Stardust Racers Joining the single rider line means you will NOT be sitting with your party. Essentially, you are a party of one, and Team Members will utilize you to fill empty seats. This also means that you won’t be able to request a specific seat or row. Make sure you discuss this with your party before joining the line, and make sure everyone is okay with riding with strangers. If you have younger kids, Curse of the Werewolf Single rider lines can be a great way to experience attractions with a potentially shorter wait time, but make sure you understand the rules of the single rider line before you hop in. 6. On April 2nd, 2025, President Donald Trump announced that he would be imposing tariffs on imported goods from other countries in the hopes of reviving manufacturing and generating revenue in the United States. Grand Floridian Lobby The initial tariffs were officially imposed on April 5th, a few days later, and more tariffs were imposed today, April 9th. The CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, expressed his concerns about Trump’s tariff plan and the impact it could have on the company as a whole. Could these changes mean that your Disney World vacation, like hotel stays, could become cheaper? According to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, Iger recently attended a daily editorial meeting with ABC News staff, where he discussed ABC Newsroom’s coverage of the tariffs. Iger said that relocating manufacturing from overseas locations to the U.S. “speedily” was impossible, and he went on to say that he believed most people “don’t really understand how tariffs work.” CEO Bob Iger ©Disney As we mentioned, these tariffs can affect all parts of the company, including Disney Cruise Line, which Iger also expressed concern about, mainly because its two new ships require steel for their construction. He even mentioned that the company might have to cut back on spending if the company’s costs get too high. There are currently a ton of projects in the works for Disney’s theme parks worldwide, and these tariffs could potentially put these projects on pause, but nothing has been confirmed. 21 MAJOR Changes Coming to Disney World in 2025 Disney Treasure Cruise Ship So, what exactly is a tariff? It is a government surcharge on products imported from other countries, paid by the companies that import goods into a country. The costs of these tariffs can be passed around depending on how countries and companies react. These tariffs are expected to affect food prices and have the potential to increase the prices of Disney souvenirs, especially those manufactured in China. Disney Merchandise With so much uncertainty about what tomorrow could bring, there is a chance tourism and travel will drop like they did a few years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic. This could mean the demand for travel will be less as Americans may worry about relocating the money they may have put aside for “fun”, like a vacation to Disney World. If prices on essentials like groceries start to rise, there will be less money in a person’s budget to travel. While nothing is confirmed, these tariffs, followed by Americans’ cautious spending, could soften the demand for travel to Disney World, which could result in cheaper hotel rates. Pop Century Each year, Disney announces several hotel promotions for Annual Passholders, Florida residents, Disney+ subscribers, and more. Could these promotions be discounted even more and opened up to a broader audience? Time will only tell, but we have a feeling that just like it did during the COVID-19 pandemic, travel and vacations may have to take a seat on the back burner, resulting in discounted rates to encourage people to come out to Disney World. Current Disney Discounts and Deals Caribbean Beach We will continue to monitor how these tariffs could affect your vacation to Disney World, so make sure to continue to follow along with us at the Disney Food Blog. 7. We just had the EPIC opportunity to step inside the long-awaited Epic Universe! Epic Universe It was truly remarkable and we can’t wait for fans to get to experience it on May 22nd when it officially opens to the public! In order to get you prepared, we have collected all the information you’ll need to make your Epic Universe adventure as EPIC as possible. And yes, we’re talking about the bathrooms! If you follow us here at the Disney Food Blog, you know we love to talk about bathrooms at Disney World — not in a weird way! Bathrooms are essential on your park day — we need them to be convenient, and easy to access, and of course, we love when they have a cool theme going on! From our own experience, we know where the best Disney World bathrooms are, and we know the worst Disney World ones. Now we know the best ones at Epic Universe, so here is our list! Celestial Park Our first bathroom stop is in Celestial Park, in a location right between the Pizza Moon and the portal to Super Nintendo World! We love this one for a few reasons. It’s by a food location, which is convenient for cleaning up before eating. It’s also on the way to Super Nintendo World, so you can freshen up before adventuring through the Mushroom Kingdom. We also like that it’s located in Epic Universe’s main hub, Celestial Park, making the bathroom quieter than the ones in one of the other four lands! Super Nintendo World Ok, so we LOVE the Isle of Berk! By default, we were probably bound to find a bathroom that we loved there. Well in Berk we found quiet ones between the Toothless meet and greet and Spit Fyre Grill. This bathroom is easy to get to and it’s quiet, which is nice being inside a big busy land like Berk. Similar to the first one we talked about, we like that it’s closer to a food location, making it easy to clean up before eating. Spit Fyre Grill Time to talk about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic! Getting to explore the Wizarding World was amazing, and the land was gorgeous. No one likes a gross-looking bathroom, and the ones in Harry Potter were actually pretty! These bathrooms were located inside the land right across the entrance to the E-Ticket attraction, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. That ride is jaw-dropping, so let’s just say the bathroom location was a good idea! Wizarding World of Harry Potter The last best bathroom on our list is located in Super Nintendo World — it’s right near the entrance to Donkey Kong Country. There are so many things to do in Super Nintendo World — things to eat, things to ride, and interactivity to explore. Once you’re done all that you’ll want to head over to Donkey Kong Country — so this bathroom is a great break spot! To make the bathroom even better, it was themed like a Mario underwater level, which was so cool! Donkey Kong Country So there it is, our official list of the best bathrooms at Epic Universe! We had the time of our lives at Epic Universe and have so much more to share with you all. We can’t wait for you to experience it in a little over a months time. Be sure to follow us at the Disney Food Blog to get you ready for your epic adventure! Read more: DFB's complete guide to Universal’s Epic Universe >> Are you excited to visit Epic Universe? 8. Orlando Science Center has a tripleheader offering coinciding with its $15 Day on Sunday. The museum will hold Great Outdoors Weekend, mark the first anniversary of its “Life” exhibit and play host to author Jessica Jane Robinson. Robinson will be featured — along with her eco-superhero named Resilience — in special StoryTime segments at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in KidsTown. The focus will be on sustainability, waste management, ocean conservation and climate literacy. Robinson also will host a 16-minute documentary titled “Story of the Cup,” which tracks the life cycle of disposable cups, at 2 p.m. Afterward, she will have a book signing in the science center’s main lobby. Great Outdoors Weekend activities will include a terrarium workshop, an outdoor scavenger hunt, a session on sustainable gardening and the Tiny Green Home Tour. The “Life” exhibit, which opened last year, features three distinct environments with sloths, Tamarin monkeys, songbirds, squirrels, fish and other members of the natural world. Admission for Sunday is $15. Daily tickets usually cost $29.99 apiece ($22.99 for youth tickets). Sunday’s price includes all four levels of the science center, including big-screen films and the current exhibit, “Top Secret: License to Spy,” which features spy gadgets, puzzles, hands-on experiments and the past and future of espionage. 9. The Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is about to change forever, as longtime headliners Aerosmith are about to cede the attraction to the Muppets. However before the Bad Boys of Boston turn the keys to their super-stretch lim0 over to Kermit and co., we’re looking back at nearly 30 years of Hollywood Studios’ most rockin’ ride. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster The Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith first roared to life at Hollywood Studios – – then known as Disney/MGM Studios – – in 1999. However, the road to the ride’s opening had nearly as many twists and turns as the Vekoma coaster itself. In the mid-1990s, Disney began transforming the Studios park from a presentation of an “actual working studio” into more a traditional theme park, including thrill rides like the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. It was during this period that the company decided to build a massive coaster in the park. It would be a roller coaster that would far exceed anything Disney had ever produced before, introducing speeds and track elements that were previously only seen in coasters at non-Disney amusement parks that catered to an older, more thrill-hungry crowd. Tower of Terror While they contracted the aforementioned coaster manufacturer Vekoma to construct the coaster, they also planned to theme it around a decidedly non-Disney concept: Rock & Roll. Specifically, Disney sought to align the ride with a popular music artist, theming it to their aesthetic, having them appear in the pre-show, and playing their music on the ride. Allegedly, Disney was in discussions with several major artists of the time including the Rolling Stones and U2, before finally reaching a deal with Aerosmith. The band was arguably at their peak of popularity in the 90s, having made a triumphant comeback from substance abuse issues to become a stadium-filling act. It likely also helped that the band had a massive number one hit in 1998 with “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”, which was on the soundtrack of the Disney-produced film Armageddon. Aerosmith’s presence on the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was a major change for Disney at the time. The ride’s story revolves around guests taking a tour of Aerosmith’s recording studio at the fictional G-Force Records. After “meeting” the band in the studio, Steven Tyler and co. invite them to ride in a “super-stretch” limo to a concert. After exiting into a “back alley”, guests board the limo-shaped coaster car. The coaster’s ride vehicle. The coaster experience itself remains the most thrilling at Walt Disney World. The ride begins with a launch from 0 to 57 mph (92 km/h) in less than 2.8 seconds. After a long straightway launch, the limo rises up into a double-inversion rollover element, then dives into over-banked turns. The limo continues along the track until it reaches the third and final inversion, a corkscrew, before the ride ends with several banked turns and a camelback hill. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Adding into the thill is the fact that the ride takes place nearly completely in the dark, with the building’s only illumination being neon signs that mimic Los Angeles street signs and other Hollywood landmarks. Let’s get ready to rock! Much like the comparatively calm Space Mountain, it’s a bucket list experience for many Disney fans to see the coaster with the lights on. While not common, there have been times when Disney has run the ride with the lights on. ©AllEars.Net The lit interior is also visible anytime the ride needs to be evacuated. ©AllEars.Net With the aforementioned Muppets changeover happening at some point in the next couple of years, it remains to be seen just how different the Muppets coaster will be. While the pre-show will definitely be changed, we’re curious to see just how different the internal presentation is. ©Disney The Rock ’n’ Roller coaster has been Hollywood Studios’ premier thrill ride for nearly three decades, and will likely remain so for years to come thanks to its new upcoming Muppets theme! 12. Disney World is almost always changing! Swan and Dolphin Hotel Magic Kingdom is expanding, Hollywood Studios is bringing Monsters Inc. to life, and that’s just scratching the surface. Now it seems like another Disney World restaurant is permanently closing and we’ve got the details right here! Disney World’s Swan and Dolphin Hotel is a favorite of ours for so many reasons! These Marriot hotels aren’t Disney owned but they come with all of the Disney perks at an affordable price. They’re located within walking distance of EPCOT, have recently rethemed rooms, and offer some amazing dining options. While this resort is working on several upgrades, it seems we are losing a favorite of ours because Shula’s Steak House is permanently closing. Welcome to Shula’s! Shula’s is named after the location’s original owner and American football great, the late Don Shula. This restaurant has honed its presentation to be dark, mature, and indulgent making it a hidden gem in our opinion! In our experience, the portions have been delicious and generous but they come with a price. Inside Shula’s! The restaurant has been open since 1995, so this will be a significant change for the hotel! The restaurant will take reservations through June 14th, 2025. 10 oz. Filet with Bernaise Sauce, Jumbo Asparagus Spears, and Macaroni and Cheese We do know, however, that the restaurant will be replaced with a Michael Mina Restaurant! Michale Mina owns The MINA Group, which manages over 40 restaurants worldwide, so we’re excited to see what’s replacing Shula’s. The anticipated debut of the new restaurant, Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina, is mid-summer. Thick Cut Nueske’s Bacon Sean Verney, Area General Manager of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin said that “The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin continues to distinguish itself with its food and beverage program” and “welcoming Chef Mina to our culinary offerings continues to push us forward in our efforts to provide guests heightened dining experiences.” Shula’s Steakhouse We will be sad to see this hidden gem go but have high hopes for the new restaurant coming! This resort is going through several changes thanks to room transformations, an expanded convention space, and more. 13. New Disney restaurant alert! Swan and Dolphin Hotel A new restaurant is coming to Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts, and we’re so excited! A new Michael Mina restaurant will be replacing Shula’s Steak House. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin announced it will open its newest celebrity chef restaurant, Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina! Shula’s Steak House Chef Mina is a well-known chef with restaurants all over the country, mainly in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has multiple Michelin stars and has a few restaurants in Florida, including Bourbon Steak in Aventura and Prime 54 in Miami Beach. We’re excited to see what Chef Mina is bringing to Orlando! So far, we know that the restaurant menu will feature a reimagined modern take on the quintessential American steakhouse with premium cuts of beef and seafood infused with global flavors, along with decadent signature desserts, and world-class beverage offerings. ©The Mina Group This will be the third location in Florida — you can currently visit a Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina restaurant in Miami and Delray Beach. If you use the International Gateway Entrance, Shula’s Steak House is a few steps away from EPCOT. The restaurant is named and themed after Don Shula, the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. He was head coach in 1972, which was deemed their “Perfect Season.” Shula’s Steak House There are lots of nods to this “Perfect Season,” and it has a dark and intimate steakhouse feel. They also have Shula’s Lounge, a bar where you can enjoy a drink and watch the game. Shula’s Steak House The Walt Disney World Dolphin confirmed that Bourbon Steak will replace Shula’s Steakhouse in the Walt Disney World Dolphin. Shula’s Steakhouse will take reservations through June 14th, 2025. We still don’t have an opening date for the new restaurant, but we know the anticipated debut of Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina is mid-summer. 14. There are some BIG changes coming to Disney World in the future, and they will change how you do your park day! Magic Kingdom In Magic Kingdom, the new Villains Land and Cars attractions are coming. We will get the new Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern opening late 2025 and a new nighttime parade in the summer of 2025! Recently, Disney announced new changes for an iconic Tomorrowland ride, and that has guests grabbing a Lightning Lane for it! Changes are coming to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom! Disney has announced that a new show scene, updated ride vehicles, and gameplay enhancements will be coming to this ride sometime in 2026. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close in August and reopen sometime in 2026. Now, guests want to secure their chance to ride it one last time before the lengthy closure of the attraction. The best way to guarantee riding it is to use a Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection for it. Space Ranger Spin This ride is a Tier 2 ride at Magic Kingdom. While the ride can have moderate wait times, we do see this line spike during peak seasons, and the worst part is that the queue is partially outside. During the summer, this is a hot line to wait in so why not grab that Lightning Lane and walk into the AC? Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin So what is changing? The ride vehicles are getting a new design inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Each vehicle will also come equipped with video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features. There will also be handheld blasters instead of the ones currently attached to the vehicle. The new blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors so you can tell who is aiming at what! ©Disney To stay in the loop on Disney World news, be sure to follow DFB for more! 16. You may have heard of Universal’s newest theme park, Epic Universe, but ANOTHER NEW park is set to open! ©Universal While the news of a Universal theme park in the United Kingdom has been known for a few years, we finally have concept art for this new project, which is set to open in 2031! Near the end of 2023, Universal announced that it had purchased land in Bedford Borough, UK, on which it planned to build a theme park. In June 2024, Universal released more details about its plans for this new park, including that it was planning on building a 500-room hotel and dining area. By this time, Universal was projecting that the project would take around six years to complete. Universal Fast-forward to April 2025; the first-ever Universal park and resort in the United Kingdom is still pending planning consent approvals. According to Universal, the proposed plans and concept art include “an entertainment resort complex with a world-class theme park with several themed lands featuring Universal’s distinct brand of immersive storytelling, thrilling rides, innovative attractions and exciting entertainment. Initial resort plans also feature a 500-room hotel and a retail, dining, and entertainment complex.” Universal Studios Florida Universal also stresses that if approved, this new park will have a significant impact on both the Bedford and United Kingdom economy by helping grow the creative arts and tourism industries. The park is projected to generate “nearly £50 billion of economic benefit for the UK and create thousands of new, high-quality jobs. At opening, the theme park would be one of the largest employers in the region, with approximately 80% of employees expected to come from Bedford, Central Bedfordshire, Luton & Milton Keynes, with many more communities benefiting from apprenticeships, training, and educational opportunities.” ©Universal || Resident Fact Sheet Universal did their research and heard feedback from local organizations, and with 6,000 responses, 92% of people expressed their support for the new park. While we do have an idea of the park’s layout, Universal says that “it is too early in the process to know the possibilities of featured attractions and experiences. More details about the project will be revealed over time and are subject to the necessary planning consent approvals.” Epic Universe Epic Universe and the proposed UK theme park are not the only Universal projects in motion right now. Over in Frisco, Texas, a smaller resort called Universal Kids Resort has already begun construction and will include popular intellectual properties like the Minions and Shrek. ©Universal We are always on the lookout for the latest theme park news, so make sure to continue to follow along with the Disney Food Blog! 17. It’s no secret that dining at Disney World can be expensive, there’s no way around it. YUM However, there are hacks one can use to ease the pain and still enjoy some of the best food the resort as to offer. For example, did you there’s a way to enjoy the food from some of Disney’s most in-demand restaurants for a fraction of the price? The key? Lounges. Several of the lounges across Disney World property offer a la carte portions of food that comes directly from their nearby (or attached) prix fixe restaurants. Sometimes, this food will be clearly advertised on the bar and lounge menus, while at other times, these options might be a whole lot more secretive and NOT directly advertised on the lounge menus. Tambu Lounge Some examples include: The Polynesian Village’s Tambu Lounge, which is located right next to ‘Ohana. You can often order the ‘Ohana noodles and/or ‘Ohana Bread Pudding at the lounge as individual dishes instead of paying the $65 prix fixe ‘Ohana price At Territory Lounge inside Wilderness Lodge, you can order the Mushroom Bisque for $12 (even though you usually can ONLY get this soup if you’re eating at Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White during dinner… which’ll normally put you back $67 per adult). Territory Lounge ALSO secretly sells the same bbq pork ribs that you can get from Whispering Canyon Cafe via the Pig Signature Skillet. If you buy the skillet at Whispering Canyon, it’ll cost you $43 per person — but if you buy the ribs separately at Territory Lounge, they’ll only cost $15. 18. Comcast NBCUniversal plans to build a theme park and resort in England, and the project will have roots in Orlando, the company has confirmed. The Universal theme park would be the company’s first in the United Kingdom and Europe. It will be “designed and delivered by the company’s Universal Destinations & Experiences segment,” which is based in Orlando, according to a Comcast news release. The company purchased 476 acres of land in Bedford, about 50 miles north of London, in 2023. A new theme park would include “several themed lands,” a 500-room hotel and a retail and dining complex. The project is subject to planning approval and a proposal will be submitted to the government for a hoped-for construction start in 2026, the news release says. “This is a special and historic milestone moment for our company as we continue to accelerate the growth trajectory of our theme-parks business and delight audiences around the world,” Mike Cavanagh, president of Comcast, said in the release. Rides and other attractions within the proposed park were not announced. An artist concept shows at least three roller coasters, several show buildings, a central lagoon, a studios-style entrance and Universal’s trademark globe out front. A taller building, perhaps a hotel, appears on the edge of the park. The resort would employ about 8,000 people in the first year of operation, according to a Universal website designed to update locals about the project. “Expanding into Europe presents us with a significant opportunity to reach new fans and share the incredible experiences our team creates,” Mark Woodbury, CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, said in the release. Universal has several projects in the works including Epic Universe theme park, which is set to open on May 22 as the company’s fourth gate in Orlando. Also on its to-do list: Horror Unleased, a year-round spooky attraction in Las Vegas set to debut in August, and the under-construction Universal Kids theme park near Dallas, which is scheduled to open in 2026. The average high temperature in August in Bedford is in the mid-60s. The high in December, January, and February is in the low 40s, dipping into the high 30s. Universal also has theme parks in Hollywood, California; Osaka, Japan; Singapore; and Beijing, China. The Bedford location will be within two hours travel time of 80% of England’s population and have “fantastic connectivity” to all of Europe, Universal said. “The unparalleled storytelling and technological innovation that the incredible team at Universal Destinations & Experiences brings to life is a perfect complement to the British creative arts and tourism industries,” Cavanagh said. 19. The Orange County Regional History Center is celebrating the 150th birthday of Orlando with an exhibit that features 150 items that tell the story of the city. The bulk of the items for “Orlando Collected” come from the museum’s vault — and some have never been displayed before. It’s a wide range of artifacts, including seats from Tinker Field, the sign from Ivey’s Drug Store and chopsticks from Little Saigon restaurant. A deed for land at Greenwood Cemetery is featured. Many of the items were selected by what organizers call “community curators,” and others are on loan to the history center for the duration of the exhibit — which rolls out to the public Saturday. “While the name Orlando dates back to the 1850s it was not officially incorporated as a town until 1875, so this exhibition is the history center’s contribution to the events that will be marking this 150th anniversary,” said Katie Kelley, curator of exhibitions. It’s “an opportunity to feature some of the items we’ve been caring for throughout the city’s history and putting them on display for the public to enjoy,” Kelley said. Exhibit items are bunched by categories — such as arts, sports, attractions and business — rather than being presented in chronological order. Orlando High School graduates John Young, an astronaut, and Marshall Nirenberg, a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist and geneticist, are found in the education area. The item count is higher than most exhibits. More information about individual pieces within “Orlando Collected” is found in the artifact guide — which is organized to match the expected flow of the exhibit. The initials of Arnold Palmer are prominent on a golf bag he owned. It’s part of the sports section of the “Orlando Collected” exhibit at Orange County Regional History Center. (Macbeth Studio/Orange County Regional History Center)In the sports section, there are a golf bag owned by Arnold Palmer, an Orlando Pride soccer jersey, a ticket from the first Orlando Magic game, a Dubsdread Country Club postcard and more. Of the unexhibited items, one is a piece of 1926 sheet music written about Orlando recently recorded by Opera Orlando for use within the display. “We were thrilled to actually hear it, hear what the song sounds like, and to be able to include that,” Kelley said. On the more nefarious side, some of the museum’s artifacts are related to a 1921 case involving Lena Clarke, the West Palm Beach postmistress who tried to frame an Orlando man for embezzlement she committed. She ended up shooting him in the San Juan Hotel in downtown Orlando — but she pleaded insanity and was acquitted. She did spend time in a mental hospital, though. The exhibit features a Smith & Wesson revolver and a Colt pistol. “One of them is supposedly the murder weapon. And we don’t really know, because different articles and sources list different kinds of weapons,” Kelley said. There are also Clark’s purse and the court ledger from her trial. (The story is complicated, involving postal workers, empty moneybags, recanted confessions, morphine, a crystal ball, 12 past lives and a New York Times headline that “says she is superwoman.”) The sign from Lili Marlene’s Aviators Pub & Restaurant is included in “Orlando Collected.” The exhibit also features a waitress’ uniform from the Church Street Station business. (Macbeth Studio/Orange County Regional History Center)“Orlando Collected” is included with regular admission to the Orange County Regional History Center. A preview night is scheduled for 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday with a cash bar and entertainment. Tickets, available at thehistorycenter.org, are $10. The exhibit will remain on display through Jan. 11. Epic Universe While Epic Universe doesn’t officially open until May 22nd, 2025, Team Members are currently previewing the new park, and we were also invited to experience it as media. Universal also recently announced previews for Annual Passholders, 2025 Military Freedom Pass Ticket Holders, Universal Rewards Signature VISA Card members, and guests staying at any Universal Orlando hotel! We have been impressed with everything we have seen so far, and we can’t wait to share even more tips and tricks as we experience more of Epic Universe. Of course, we will also be doing LOTS of food reviews, and we have a super special review coming at ya! The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic We recently got to try BUTTERBEER CREPES! Yes, you read that right, and as you can probably guess, we are very excited. You can find these Butterbeer crepes at the Café L’air De La Sirène inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe. We have had our eye on these guys since Universal first announced menus, and now we are here to tell you all about them. Bièraubeurre Crepe The Butterbeer crepes, or officially the Bièraubeurre Crepe, costs $19.99. The dish features two stacked crepes filled with rich butterscotch sauce and topped with a swirl of whipped cream. It is finished with fresh strawberries and a shortbread cookie stamped with “Bièraubeurre.” Is your mouth watering yet? We know ours are. Bièraubeurre Crepe Let’s start from the top and make our way down. The whipped cream tastes exactly like the foam on top of Butterbeer drinks. Just the whipped cream alone was terrific. The strawberries added a wonderful touch of tartness to the dish. The cookie wasn’t our favorite as it was dry, and the edible ink flavor was a bit overpowering. Bièraubeurre Crepe The crepes themselves don’t have much flavor, but the butterscotch filling more than makes up for that. The filling is very sweet and full of butterscotch flavor. When you get a bite with the whipped cream, crepe, and butterscotch filling, it is very reminiscent of a glass of Butterbeer. Bièraubeurre Crepe The crepes are very sweet, so we definitely recommend sharing this dish. But Butterbeer fans are in for a real treat with this dish! We will probably be dreaming about these crepes for a while. Bièraubeurre Crepe While we were at Café L’air De La Sirène, we also grabbed a non-dairy Butterbeer…you know, for science. It is officially on the menu as Bièraubeurre Glacée Non-Dary and costs $8.99. We are happy to report that it tastes just like the Butterbeer you can find at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. We figured it would, but we still had to give it a try! 22. 2025 is a year of transition for the Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom A new nighttime spectacular and long-demanded lounge are coming, two opening-day attractions are going away forever, and one iconic E-Ticket is closed for the whole year! In other words, if you’re heading to Disney World’s original park this year, be prepared! Here are some of the things you need to know before your visit! That Big Thunder Mountain is Closed All Year One of the Magic Kingdom’s most iconic — and popular — E-Ticket attractions, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, is going to be closed for the rest of the year. Track work The Frontierland staple closed on January 6th for a refurbishment, and according to Disney will be reopening “with a little bit of new magic in 2026.” While we’re excited about the “new magic”, anyone visiting the park this year is going to miss out on the “wildest ride in the wilderness.” Last Chance to Experience the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island? Remaining in Frontierland, 2025 will also likely provide the last chance to see two of the park’s opening day staples. Back at the D23 Ultimate Fan Event in August 2024, Disney announced that a new Cars area is coming to the Magic Kingdom land. However, to facilitate the construction, both the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be closing, much to the outcry of many fans. Rivers of America At the moment, there is no announced closure for the Rivers and Tom Sawyer Island, but given Disney’s pronouncement that work on the area would be “revving into high gear” in 2025, we’d think their time is short. Coming Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions including an off-road race. Disney Starlight is Coming However, there are new things coming to the park as well. Summer 2025 sill see the return of a nighttime parade to the park with the debut of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away. ©Disney According to Disney, the new parade will combine “nostalgic Disney storytelling and glowing innovation, continuing the legacy of dazzling nighttime entertainment that holds a special place in the hearts of so many” and feature characters from “classic and new Walt Disney Animation Studios films like Peter Pan, Encanto, Frozen, Moana” and more. Party Like a Pirate Finally, late 2025 will see the opening of a hotly anticipated new lounge in Adventureland. The Pirates of the Caribbean-themed place promises to expand the story of the fabled attraction, and will “welcome pirates of all ages with a sea-worthy selection of grogs and grub.” ©Disney If you’re heading to the Magic Kingdom in 2025, be sure to be aware of all these changes and stay tuned to DFB for further updates on the park! 23. These Disney World hotels are adding some new… “character” this summer! Pop Century In the 50+ years since Walt Disney World opened, character meet & greets were *mostly* limited to encounters at the resort’s theme parks and water parks, and character meals. While characters have been appearing at Disney’s hotels, those stops have usually been unscheduled and hard to catch. However, that’s all about to change. According to the Disney Parks Blog, “This summer, guests staying at select resorts – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge – will be able to enjoy even more Disney-themed activities designed for families with kids. These activities will include character visits with set appearance times to help you plan your day and an expanded itinerary of things to do with your family throughout your stay at these four resorts. “ Wilderness Lodge sign Having scheduled character meet & greets at these Disney hotels is a game changer for Disney hotel guests, who will be able to meet their favorites BEFORE heading to the parks for the day OR add some Disney character magic to a day otherwise spent just relaxing at their resort. Hi, Mickey! Characters at these four hotels are part of a larger slate of offerings at Walt Disney World this summer. These include deals on hotel rooms and dining plans, new Kid Zone offerings at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, two new shows at Hollywood Studios (The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After) and the new Disney Starlight nighttime spectacular at the Magic Kingdom. Character Meet and Greet sign at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Guests at four Walt Disney World hotels are going to be able to meet characters right at their resorts this summer! 24. Are you ready to meet your destiny? The Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney Imagineering teams are hard at work with the crew at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany to bring Disney Cruise Line’s heroes and villains-themed ship, the Disney Destiny, to life – and it may be further along than you think! Here on the Disney Destiny ship’s log, you can get an exclusive look at the shipbuilding process, along with behind-the-scenes looks at some of the exciting Disney stories coming to life inside. Be sure to bookmark this page for regular updates all the way through the ship’s maiden voyage on November 20 from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The countdown to the Disney Destiny’s maiden voyage on November 20, 2025 is on! For ship’s log readers that simply can’t wait to set sail and Disney fans alike, the Disney Destiny has taken over the official Disney Cruise Line playlist on Spotify, featuring a collection of songs that speak to the exciting venues onboard and the ship’s unique heroes and villains theme. Hits from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ The Lion King will help future guests build up their appetite and get ready to dine at the all-new restaurant opening on the ship, Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King. The playlist also features iconic favorites from the Disney Animation film, Hercules, to go the distance in preparation for the high-energy, Broadway-style stage show set to debut at the Walt Disney Theatre. And who can forget about Cruella De Vil’s memorable theme song from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ One Hundred and One Dalmatians, which will set the tune for De Vil’s, an adult-exclusive piano lounge. Fans can discover the full playlist on Spotify now! Last week, the Disney Destiny completed another exciting construction milestone at Meyer Werft Shipyard when it touched water for the first time. The process, known as “float up,” began by filling the building dock with water from the Ems River in order to lift the Disney Destiny from the floor of the chamber. The ship was then guided to another position in the hall, where the team will begin testing different systems onboard, including the main engines. In the coming months, the shipyard team will continue to focus on building out the legendary interior spaces coming to the Disney Destiny. With the final block of the Disney Destiny in place, the team at Meyer Werft shipyard can turn their attention to installing the unique exterior features that will distinguish the ship. First on the list is a whimsical art piece on the Disney Destiny’s bow, which depicts Minnie Mouse striking a valiant pose in her new heroic ensemble. With her cape billowing behind her, Minnie Mouse’s outfit symbolizes the Disney Destiny’s first-of-its-kind “Heroes and Villains” design theme. The elegant, hand-painted filigree continues a longstanding Disney Cruise Line tradition dating back to the fleet’s first ship, the Disney Magic, with every Disney Cruise Line vessel having a distinct character-inspired image embossed on its bow. In the lead up to the Disney Destiny’s maiden voyage in November of this year, the team at Meyer Werft shipyard will continue to add details to the ship’s exterior and interior. Today, we are bringing you a first look at this ship’s progress and are excited to share that the final blocks (i.e. sections of the ship) were put into place in late 2024. That’s right – with the last piece of the ship in place, the ship’s exterior is now structurally complete and outfitting work has begun on the interior. Take a look at this timelapse construction footage to see the Disney Destiny’s progress, including a look at how it was built alongside the Disney Treasure in the shipyard. Stay tuned for more updates about the next ship to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Your destiny awaits! 25. We had a fantastic time in Epic Universe for the first time last week and learned SO much about the new park in just one day. Celestial Park Annual Passholder previews were just announced for this new park and are going pretty fast, and Universal announced that Helios Grand Hotel is opening early as well, and for those of you who are securing your spots to go sometime this year, we’re here to tell you that you’re going to have a great time. However, we’ll be the first to admit that we do feel there’s something big missing from this park, and it’s not what you’re expecting. Epic Universe has five lands: Celestial Park (the main hub), Dark Universe, Super Nintendo World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic, and How To Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk. Dark Universe Portal All of these lands are filled with dining options, merchandise locations, and attractions that appeal to all ages. However, most of these lands are also home to different meet and greets you can enjoy, many of them being roaming characters. Spit Fyre Grill In Isle of Berk, you’ll get the chance to meet Hiccup and Toothless, Astrid and Stormfly, roaming dragons throughout the land, as well as other characters. It really makes you feel like you’re fully immersed in the land! Toothless and Hiccup! Over in Dark Universe, you can meet Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein, and you may even see other characters like The Invisible Man roaming around the land. It’s The Invisible Man! In Super Nintendo World, you’ll of course be able to meet iconic characters Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong! Super Nintendo World Finally, in Ministry of Magic, you’ll find characters roaming around to fully immerse you in the world — we saw a Beauxbatons student leading around curious Hogwarts students on a tour of Paris. This land, so far, has the fewest amount of character interactions we’ve seen so far. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic However, it still beats out Celestial Park in this area, because unfortunately, Universal has seemingly cut all Celestial Park performers ahead of the planned opening on May 22nd. This change occurred while the park was recently in Team Member previews, and from what we can tell, it might not be changed back. Welcome to Celestial Park! This is really a shame because there were plans to see entertainment in multiple different locations around this section of the park — Universal had previously announced travelers telling tales of their journeys at Hemisphere Stage, or the Sound Collector which supposedly was a highly interactive experience with guests. Why did these cuts happen? Well, it’s hard to say right now. Some have said it was due to a lack of interest from Team Members during their previews, while others speculate budget cuts. Epic Universe — The Chronos Tower We, and many Disney fans, greatly miss the Citizens of Hollywood in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and it sounds like some of these characters would have been in a similar vein! We’re hoping that once Epic Universe officially opens and Universal sees how well live entertainment and characters do in the rest of the parks, they’ll consider bringing characters to Celestial Park.
