Every day, for almost 70 years, Disney has paid homage to those who serve and defend the nation through daily flag ceremonies. As a company founded by strong supporters of the U.S. military, Disney has long had an affinity for those who have served in uniform. Long before they started The Walt Disney Company, Walt and Roy O. Disney both served their country during the First World War. Roy was a petty officer in the U.S. Navy and Walt drove an ambulance for the Red Cross Ambulance Corps. Held at both Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. and Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., the popular Flag Retreat offerings give Disney the opportunity to offer sincere gratitude to those who safeguard the nation. The important tradition even continued while both theme parks were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Disneyland Daily Flag Ceremony U.S. Army Staff Sgt. “Papa Jake” Larson poses with granddaughter Mckaela following a special Flag Retreat ceremony on Nov. 22, 2024, at Disneyland Park, where the veteran was honored. Since the opening day flag raising on July 17, 1955, Disneyland Park’s daily flag ceremonies in Town Square have become a proud tradition. Throughout that time, security cast members have diligently raised and lowered the American flag each day. Today, this storied ceremony continues with entertainment cast members from the Disneyland Band and Dapper Dans regularly contributing musical performances to bring emotion to the time-honored ritual. Disneyland has honored countless service members, veterans and their families over the years, including recently saluting 101-year-old World War II veteran, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. “Papa Jake” Larson. Magic Kingdom Park Daily Flag Retreat Ceremony World War II and U.S. Navy veteran, Dorothy “Pat” Rudd, participates in the daily Flag Retreat ceremony on June 7, 2023, as Veteran-of-the-Day in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. The Flag Retreat ceremony honoring those with military service has been a tradition since the resort first opened October 1, 1971. Magic Kingdom’s tradition, which has taken place every day since its opening day in 1971, includes cast members selecting a service member or veteran to honor as the “U.S. Armed Forces Representative of the Day” from among that park’s daily visitors. After the flag is lowered, Magic Kingdom cast members line up to shake hands with the special honoree and share their gratitude. Many special moments have taken place at Magic Kingdom flag ceremonies since opening day, including the chance to honor World War II heroes such as 101-year-old veteran, U.S. Army Col. William “Bill” Connelly. Cast Members Following in Walt’s Footsteps Just as this tradition grew from Walt Disney’s patriotism, today, Disney cast members from coast to coast take part in the reflection and gratitude. Members of Disney’s SALUTE veteran employee resource group often attend these ceremonies, sharing stories from their own time in service. Every year these veterans are honored at Flag Retreat ceremonies in both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom as part of Disney’s Veterans Day celebrations. The tradition is particularly important to cast members who have served or continue to serve their country today. Disneyland cast members with military service are honored during Veterans Day celebrations on Nov. 11, 2024. As Disney continues to enchant visitors worldwide, the flag ceremonies remain a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit of America. We’ve been exploring everything that Universal’s brand-new theme park, Epic Universe, has to offer — and we’re not done yet! Portal Entrance to Super Nintendo World Five themed lands make up Epic Universe: Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe, and we can’t get enough. So, come with us to check out The Bubbly Barrel in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Epic Universe! Atmosphere The Bubbly Barrel is a snack stand located in the Donkey Kong Country section of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Epic Universe. According to the Universal website, this is where “you’ll find the perfect refreshment for your adventures in the jungle.” The Bubbly Barrel But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu Universal still hasn’t revealed the full menu for this spot yet, but we still stopped by to try the DK Crush Float, which is what they’re currently serving up. A Team Member we spoke with said that as far as they knew, this was going to be the only thing served on the menu here, so we’ll wait to see what ends up happening once Epic Universe is officially open. Donkey Kong Country And now, onto the main event! Drinks You can grab the DK Crush Float for $18.99. A hefty price, but it does come in a souvenir Donkey Kong barrel cup, so it’s like a snack and a souvenir all in one! This drink is made with DOLE Whip Banana Cream with sprinkles, chocolate pieces, and caramel popcorn in a waffle bowl — served on top of a cup of Pineapple Fanta Soda. Sounds like something Diddy Kong would come up with. But how does it taste? DK Crush Float This was shockingly delicious — not to mention, it is adorable. It’s so perfectly themed for the land, and not only that, it is so tasty, too. It’s essentially a banana-pineapple DOLE Whip float, and we couldn’t get enough. As the DOLE Whip melts, it goes into the soda, and it gets creamy, tangy, and delicious. We love how creative they were with this treat, and this is exactly what we wanted to see from Epic Universe in terms of unique treats. The textures — the crunchiness of the caramel corn and the chocolate — and the tanginess of the pineapple with the sweetness of the banana just go so well together. Comes with a spoon, too! It was definitely a sugar overload, though, but we loved how unique it was and how perfect for Donkey Kong fans it would be, too. It’s adorable with the souvenir mug — and even if you don’t get the souvenir mug, it still comes with an amazing Donkey Kong spoon. Very cute, very aesthetic, and very tasty. A look at the full monstrosity So, should you stop by The Bubbly Barrel? Nosh or Not This Epic Universe restaurant is a must-visit if… You’re a major Donkey Kong fan and want to experience everything this land has to offer. You love fruity sweet treats. You’re looking for a dessert when you’re in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. You should skip this Epic Universe spot if… You’re looking for a more substantial or savory snack. You want a sit-down meal. Overall The Bubbly Barrel is a great stop for this very specific snack (for now), but hopefully, more will be available here once Epic Universe officially opens. If you’ve got a kiddo with a sweet tooth (or you have one yourself), you might want to stop by to see what it’s all about! The Bubbly Barrel In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Epic Universe and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest theme park news and more! Big things are happening at the Disneyland Resort and we’re here to break it all down. Disneyland DisneylandForward — a project whereby Disneyland will work with the City of Anaheim to rezone specific parts of the Disneyland Resort to accommodate new lands, attractions, and experiences — was OFFICIALLY approved in May 2024. This nearly $2 billion plan will transform Disneyland over the next decade, and we’re going to run down what those changes could look like. Disneyland now has the flexibility to use its own land for what it wants to do and, while there’s still so much Disney is keeping close to the vest, there are a few projects Disneyland has teased. ©Disney The current “DisneylandForward conceptual development plan stays within Disney’s existing 500-acre property in Anaheim with no physical expansion or additional acreage.” Before the new plan was approved, the previous plans approved in the 1990s designated areas such as “hotel” and “entertainment”. Now, the Resort will be switching to “mixed-use” flexibility — meaning the physical space that Disney already owns will be molded to their liking. Disney intends to use the privately funded $1.9 billion over the next decade to expand the area’s lodging, retail, parking, dining options, and theme parks. The plan would ultimately be in effect for 40 years in an effort to create a unified entertainment center. ©Disney DisneylandForward will be a 40-year-long project, meaning learning new information will be a slow burn. We do know, however, that the Resort wants to build new parking and a brand-new transportation center. We also know that the plan includes benefits for the residents of Anaheim such as $30 million for affordable housing, $8 million for parks, $85 million in traffic improvements and pedestrian safety, and continued investment in workforce development programs. ©City of Anaheim New lands and attractions have already been teased at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. While nothing has been set in stone, Disney has brought up ideas of lands based on Coco, Black Panther, Tangled, Frozen, Zootopia, Peter Pan, Tron, and Toy Story. Some of these lands make a great amount of sense, as they’ve already been built at other Disney theme parks around the world. Toy Story Land In January 2024 at an Anaheim City Council meeting, developers referenced other possible lands that could come to Disneyland, such as Zootopia Land at Shanghai Disney Resort, Rapunzel’s Forest at Tokyo DisneySea, and World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland. Previous possible additions noted in the plan included Frozen entertainment akin to what’s available at Hong Kong Disneyland coming to Disney California Adventure. The proposal also included Peter Pan and Tangled expansions at Disneyland Park, although the only expansions we definitely know about are so far limited to California Adventure. ©Disney In August of 2024, the D23 Ultimate Fan Event revealed details about the new Pandora: World of Avatar expansion coming to California Adventure. We learned that it will be unlike the version in Florida and will feature all-new adventures based on Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and more upcoming Avatar films. ©Disney The new land will also boast a brand-new boat ride billed as a “thrilling excursion that will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar, taking guests all the way to the wide-open seas of Pandora,” according to Disney. ©Disney At the same event, Disney announced that Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus would also be getting an expansion! The land will incorporate two new attractions: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. ©Disney This expansion isn’t technically part of DisneylandForward, but it will be part of the plans that ultimately shape Disneyland altogether over the next decade. Avengers Infinity Defense will have guests join in battle across the multiverse alongside the Avengers to defeat King Thanos and recover stolen Stark technology. Also announced at D23, Coco is coming to the Disneyland Resort! The popular Pixar film is getting a new boat ride attraction also at California Adventure! The ride will break ground in 2026 and, according to Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro, music will “play an important role in this attraction just as it does in so many of our attractions.” D’Amaro also teased some advanced technology on the ride, saying, “D’Amaro went on to say, “Walt Disney Imagineering will draw inspiration for the attraction from beloved classics, like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology. These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.” ©Disney And there you have it! A BRAND-NEW restaurant is coming to Walt Disney World, and it’s bringing a delectable treat that’s sure to become a favorite. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin at night In the spring of 2025, Disney confirmed that Shula’s Steakhouse – – named for famous Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula – – at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort would be closing in June to make way for a new dining experience: Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina. Celebrity chef Michael Mina launched Bourbon Steak as “a tribute to the classic American steakhouse.” The restaurant’s menu includes “prime cuts of beef, fresh seafood, and an extensive selection of wines and spirits, including rare and vintage bourbon selections,” made with locally sourced ingredients. In addition to the upcoming Orlando outpost, there are currently Bourbon Steak locations in Del Ray Beach, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Orange County, Scottsdale, and Washington D.C. Recently, we paid a visit to the Orange County, California, location in order to get a feel for the newest restaurant coming to Disney World. The wine! Located at the Waldorf Astoria in Dana Point, California, the restaurant had an upscale, oceanfront vibe. Once we sat down to eat, we tried one of the restaurant’s trademarks: The French Fry Flight You read that right, a flight of French Fries. Specifically, this complimentary dish is referred to as “the ultimate snack upgrade—three perfectly seasoned fries paired with three signature dipping sauces.” The Duck Fat Fries Trio we had consisted of 3 different seasoned fries, fried in duck fat and served with a dipping sauce that complemented each type of fries. There were: Pastrami Fries with Ketchup Garlic Herb Fries with a Black Truffle Aioli Dill Fries with Onion Crema The fries! These delectable fry offerings, as well as the rest of the Bourbon Steak menu seems poised to become a favorite when it opens at the Disney World Dolphin hotel later this year. You should know these things before booking that FREE dining plan for your upcoming Disney World vacation. Magic Kingdom The Disney Dining Plan at Disney World gives you credits to redeem for meals and snacks while on your vacation. While this is an add-on for Disney World hotel guests, there are certain times when hotel guests can get it for FREE while booking a package. But before you run off and book one, there are a few things we want to tell you first! 1. You Can Only Travel During Certain Dates You will want to be open to traveling to Disney World during the dates they offer free dining plans. Right now, the current free dining promotion began on March 27th, and you’re 4-night stay will need to be during the following dates. June 29th to September 30th, 2025 October 20th to November 1st, 2025 December 6th to December 22nd, 2025 Free Dining These are usually offered around popular times of the year to travel. If you were planning on coming to Disney World during Thanksgiving or Christmas, you will need to change your dates if you want that perk. Christmastime at Disney World 2. Remember What Your Typical Disney Habits Are Even though something free on a Disney trip can be exciting, you want to remember what your Disney eating habits actually are. For example, if you are someone who loves to snack throughout your Disney day so that you can try a lot of things, then the dining plan won’t really work for you. Classic Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich Also, if you are someone who loves table service restaurants and being able to sit down multiple meals a day to enjoy a break, then the plans might not work for you. Even with the standard dining plan, you only get one table service credit per day. It’s good to remember what you would typically do and then see if there’s a plan that fits that best for you. If not, you could be spending a lot more money. Be Our Guest Restaurant 6 Times Disney’s FREE Dining Plan Is A Bad Deal 3. There are Sometimes Better Deals If you want free dining, you must purchase a non-discounted vacation package. That means no hotel discounts! There are certain times when your hotel discount could be a greater savings than the free dining — especially if you don’t feel like the dining plan will fit with your needs on your trip. Disney’s Riviera Resort For example, Disney just announced a NEW hotel discount exclusively for Disney+ members. The offer is valid on 2-night stays or longer for most nights between June 29th and July 31st, and you can get hotel rooms as low as $99 a night! You might want to crunch some numbers. Read More About $99 Disney Hotel Rooms for Disney+ Members All-Star Music Resort 4. The FREE Plan Depends On Your Hotel Choice If there is a certain free plan you would like, you’ll want to know before booking your hotel. Deluxe Resorts will get the standard dining plan for free, while the Moderate and Value Resorts can get the quick service plan for free. This means you’ll need to pay more in hotel costs to grab the plan with free table service meals. Grand Floridian Resort 5. Tips Are NOT Included With any dining plan, free or not, you will need to pay tips on table service meals. That’s right — tips are not included in the plan, so you will need to be prepared to tip those awesome Cast Members who are your wait staff. 50’s Prime Time Cafe 6. You’ll Still Need To Buy Items You do get a lot of food with the dining plans, however, it is only enough credits for 2 meals a day. You get 2 meal credits and a snack credit with the plans, so you will likely need to pay for an extra meal per day and maybe even more snacks. Mickey Waffles If you are going to EPCOT for a festival during your trip, there are many items at the outdoor kitchens that are snack credits, but if you have a long list of ones you want to try, you might have to pay more when you run out of snack credits. 2024 Food and Wine Festival You’ll want to act fast to grab this deal — dates will start booking up. As a young family on a budget looking for super fun things to do, one of our favorite destinations for a day out is Disney Springs at Walt Disney World! From free parking and entry, to artistic expressions and engaging activities, shopping, dining and more – you can make magical memories for any budget. Here’s how my family had the perfect morning out at Disney Springs for under $40. Art Walk: A Canvas of Expression Our first stop was to one of Disney Springs’ hidden gems – the Art Walk! With over 20 vibrant murals depicting the culture and heritage of featured artists, these displays are like a walking art gallery to enjoy in the sunshine. We visited one of the newest installations, Against All Odds by Brandon Hill, created for the recent Celebrate Soulfully celebrations for Black History Month! Joffrey’s Coffee and Tea Company As a lover of all things caffeinated, a visit to Joffrey’s was an absolute must to start our day. The specialty coffee of Walt Disney World, this Florida-based small business packs big flavor and always has fresh, seasonal offerings. I ordered the Frozen Cappuccino Dream with Caramel and I should have ordered a second. My drink for one quickly became a drink for two once my husband had a taste! The LEGO Store Okay – The LEGO Store has to be one of my new favorite places to take my daughter at Disney Springs. Not only do they have interactive stations near the store entrance where kids can tinker with LEGOs and race LEGO cars to their hearts content – but they can also make mini figures of their very own with the LEGO Minifigure Factory! This experience was SO fun! While we talked her through the process, we let Eden fully design and customize her minifig as she saw fit. From the clothes she created to selecting the perfect hair and accessories to match, I loved seeing her creativity and excitement shine through as she and daddy designed her character… even if it was a sea witch named Jekyll. Mom tip: Appointments are required for this experience! I recommend signing up at least one week in advance. Marketplace Carousel & Marketplace Train Express You can experience a touch of Magic Kingdom right at Disney Springs with a ride on a miniature carousel and kids-sized train. Each ride is $5, and the best part is that one parent can ride with their child for free. Eden loved choosing her own horse on the carousel, and when I asked her why she was smiling so much she said it felt like she was flying! BONUS: Sassagoula River Cruise and Beignets at Port Orleans French Quarter After strolling the sights at Disney Springs we wrapped up our day with a 15-minute boat ride, courtesy of complimentary resort water transportation, to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter for a taste of their famous beignets. Drifting through the canals was so relaxing, and it was even better knowing Mickey beignets dipped in caramel sauce were waiting on the other side. Eden loved spotting the birds and waving at the passengers of other boats (and the amphicars!) we met along the way. Mom tip: Speaking of complimentary transportation – did you know as an extra perk guests staying at Walt Disney World Hotels have access to free bus transportation to take them to and from Disney Springs? Our three hours at Disney Springs showed us what this destination does best – delivering memorable experiences that are the perfect blend of entertainment and value. Eden STILL carries her LEGO creation everywhere she goes and asks when we can take another boat ride. The best part is that there are so many options and fun things to do, every visit is different! Maybe our next trip will involve a morning flight on the world’s largest hand-painted helium balloon at Aerophile, a quick game of bowling at Splitsville Luxury Lanes or a thrilling performance of Drawn to Life Presented by Cirque du Soleil and Disney! For families looking to add extra magic to their day, Disney Springs is the perfect place to visit. Don’t look now, but spooky season at Disney World will sneak up on you faster than a hitchhiking ghost. Boo To YOU! Every year, Disney fans mark their calendars and sit in anticipation, waiting for that first big announcement: when tickets will go on sale for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. If you’re already thinking about candy trails, Hocus Pocus vibes, and the Boo-To-You parade, you’re not alone. Based on past years, we’ve got some thoughts on when you should start keeping your eyes peeled — and we’re breaking it all down right here. Alright, let’s get into it. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is one of the most popular events at Disney World, and it always brings out the crowds — especially in those earlier ticket release windows. So if you’re hoping to snag a date that works for your trip, you’ll want to be ready before that virtual queue opens. Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular Let’s look at what’s happened over the past few years: In 2024, Disney Resort hotel guests got first dibs starting May 8, and the general public got their shot on May 15. In 2023, ticket sales opened on April 27 for guests with a resort reservation, and May 2 for everyone else. In 2022, those dates were a little later — May 12 and May 18, respectively. So what’s the pattern? Disney likes to drop these sales in spring, usually in late April or early May. It’s consistent. It’s dependable. It just… doesn’t come with a lot of notice, which is why it helps to have your planning game strong. The party is a blast! Based on that trend, we’re predicting 2025 ticket sales will go live in early May — probably sometime between May 7–14. If you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you’ll likely get first access about a week before everyone else. (And yes, that early window can really make a difference, especially for popular dates like Halloween night or those earlier August party nights.) Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Our best guess is to mark May 7 for resort guests and May 14 for the general public as the most likely dates — though this is just a prediction, and nothing is official until Disney confirms it. Here’s our advice: If you’re traveling in the fall and the Halloween party is a must-do, start checking Disney’s website and social media channels ASAP. Disney usually gives a little heads-up before sales go live, but it can be as little as a week or two, so don’t sleep on it. You’ve got to be ready when that ticket page goes live and refresh like it’s 2014 and you’re trying to get Beyoncé pre-sale. And don’t forget — this event does sell out, especially the earlier dates (which tend to be cheaper) and the nights leading up to Halloween. So if you already know your travel dates, be ready to act fast. They’ll put a spell on you We will continue to keep an eye out for any news regarding the 2025 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party season, so make sure to continue to follow along with the Disney Food Blog! Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary celebration is coming soon! The big party starts on May 16th and will run through the summer of 2026. We are beyond excited for the celebration! ©Disney Speaking of the big anniversary, we’ve got more important news. The Disneyland 70th Anniversary will be happening at the same time as ANOTHER event. We’re talking about runDisney — the Half Marathon event will be taking place in Anaheim in early 2026! But what about the other anticipated runDisney events? Well, Disney just shared an important update. Looking ahead at the runDisney event calendar, Disneyland Resort has two on the schedule. First, there’s the 2025 Halloween Half Marathon Weekend, which will take place from September 4th through the 7th. The theme for that race will be Disney villains, so be prepared! Then there will be another race happening at the start of 2026 — Disneyland’s “Celebrate Happy” Half Marathon Weekend, taking place from January 29th through to February 1st. ©runDisney Disneyland only has those two runs on the schedule, which is half of what Disney World has planned. There’s a reason Disneyland only has one race on the schedule, though. When you go to the runDisney website, you’ll see the following message: “Due to upcoming construction impacts, runDisney races at the Disneyland Resort will be placed on hiatus in 2026 after the conclusion of the 2026 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. We will continue to offer races at Walt Disney World Resort, as well as virtual offerings.” ©Disney This is obviously a big blow for runDisney fans, especially considering there may have been one more event during the big 70th Anniversary celebration! This actually has happened already before, as this is the second time runDisney has paused races at Disneyland due to construction. There was also a hiatus back in 2018. ©Disney We’re happy that we’ll still get to experience two more races, and that the one at the beginning of next year will still be taking place. The “Celebrate Happy” run looks like it’ll be a blast, as it focuses on different ways to celebrate what makes us happy! Essentially, it’ll be the Happiest Race on Earth at the Happiest Place on Earth. ©runDisney There are going to be races inspired by Joy from Inside Out, Sorcerer Mickey, “it’s a small world”, and Dumbo. There will also be a kids’ race themed to Stitch, and a yoga session inspired by Miss Piggy! ©Disney Disney has not confirmed when runDisney will return to Disneyland, nor has it specified how long the hiatus could potentially last. It’s a special fan-favorite event, and there’s something magical about it being held at the original park. We’ll keep an eye out for the construction updates as the year progresses and into next year! Be sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for all the latest news and updates. Disney Cruises are supposed to be all about magic, relaxation, and maybe a Mickey ice cream bar (or seven). Disney Destiny But let’s be real — even the most magical place at sea isn’t immune to people completely losing their minds. Whether it’s elevator chaos or candy shop meltdowns, we’ve heard some WILD stories from Disney Cruise Line guests. So today, we’re sharing a few tales of people behaving very badly on the high seas. Elevator Etiquette? Never Heard of Her Look, elevators on cruise ships can be a hot mess — we get it. But you’d hope people would at least pretend to have some manners. One guest who uses a wheelchair shared that people constantly cut in front of them at the elevators, totally ignoring that, hey, maybe this person actually needs the elevator more than you do after your third trip to the soft serve machine. Disney Magic Elevator The kicker is that it wasn’t just once. It was constant. People literally rushing past a wheelchair user so they could snag a ride first. Absolutely not. The Guy Who Kicked a Wheelchair If you thought the elevator situation was bad well… buckle up. Same guest, different setting: they were sitting in ADA seating at a theater (you know, the spot specifically designated for wheelchair users), and a man behind them decided that his view was more important than their existence. So what did he do? ©Disney He kicked the wheelchair to get them to move. Because apparently, this guy thought “accessibility seating” meant “in my way.” We have no words. Game Show Humiliation: Family Edition If you’ve never seen a Disney Cruise game show, just know it’s part trivia, part chaos, and a whole lot of family-friendly(ish) fun. Usually. But sometimes… it gets a little too real. One kiddo decided to go all in and roast his mom in front of a full audience. During a game show, the host asked for an embarrassing story, and this kiddo did not hold back. ©Disney He told the ENTIRE room — including cast members, strangers, and possibly Mickey Mouse himself — that his mom “sharted in the middle of a ’s Sporting Goods.” Cue: stunned silence, followed by nervous laughter, followed by Mom probably looking into witness protection. Look, we’ve all been embarrassed by our kids. But this? This was next-level. The Candy Shop Tantrum Heard Round the Ship Inside Out: Joyful Sweets on the Disney Wish is an adorable little candy shop full of pastel colors, themed treats, and fun vibes. It’s also not part of the “free food” included in your cruise fare — and apparently, that was news to one very angry grown adult. Joyful Sweets A guest witnessed a full-on tantrum from a grown man who discovered that yes, you actually have to pay for the candy in the candy shop. He stomped, yelled, and made a scene in front of families and kids — because he had to shell out for a sweet. We’re talking total meltdown. Over sugar. On a luxury cruise. Make it make sense. Fear and Anger Look, we all have our moments. Travel can be stressful, even on a Disney Cruise. But if you find yourself kicking wheelchairs, yelling over candy, or exposing bodily functions on stage… maybe take a deep breath and remember: you’re literally on a floating vacation with basically unlimited ice cream and fireworks. Be cool. Or at least… not this chaotic. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the Disney Cruise Line. It’s a great time to head to Disney World! Main Street, U.S.A. The weather is FINE, and the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival is still underway through June 5th. There is plenty of great food to eat (but isn’t there always?), and spring is in the air. However, if you’re headed to Disney World this weekend, we’ve got a word of warning: the parks could be a little packed. So, why is this weekend going to be so busy? Well, a LOT is happening in Disney World this weekend. First up, the All-Star Cheerleading WORLDS event will be held from April 26th through April 29th at ESPN Wide World of Sports. This brings a LOT of folks to the resort, the parks, and the hotels. You’ll certainly see cheerleading crowds if you’re staying at Disney’s All-Star Resorts because that’s generally where the competitors and their families stay, too. You’ll probably also hear a lot of them rehearsing if you’re staying at those hotels. Minnie All-Star Sports Ornament But that’s not the only big thing happening this weekend. Dapper Day is happening on April 26th in EPCOT and on April 27th in Magic Kingdom. So those parks will be full of people dressed to the nines. These events are also usually huge, so you could expect to see more folks than usual. Dapper Day pin But wait, there’s more! Yep, ANOTHER major event is happening in Disney World this weekend. Over in EPCOT, 98 Degrees will be performing at the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival for the Garden Rocks Concert Series on April 27th and April 28th. It’s almost a sure bet that these concerts are going to BE HUGE, so EPCOT is going to be extra busy. 98 Degrees So if you’re headed to Disney World this weekend, be sure to pack some extra patience and plan for crowded parks (and even crowded hotels, in some cases). If you’re looking to go on vacation soon, you might want to consider Southwest Airlines! ©Southwest Airlines If you’ve been following along with us, you’ve probably heard of the latest Southwest changes. The airline has had some major changes, like updating its “bags fly free” policy and changing its open seating initiative. Southwest is back in the headlines, but this time offering cheap flights for the summer! Southwest Airlines is having a summer travel sale — You can buy one-way tickets for as low as $39! This is a huge savings opportunity for anyone looking to go on a summer vacation. ©Southwest Airlines The only downside is you need to act FAST! The deal is here and gone very quickly, as you need to book a trip by Thursday, April 24th! The sale officially ends that day at 11:59 PM ET. The sale is valid for the following dates, depending on destination: U.S. travel from May 13th to October 2nd Hawaii, San Juan, and Puerto Rico from August 17th to October 2nd Premium Seating on ©Southwest Airlines Flights scheduled for September 1st are blacked out from the sale! Any ticket purchased through the sale is nonrefundable. Anyone looking to book should also be aware that seats and travel days are limited. Flights also need to be booked at least 21 days in advance to qualify for the summer sale. Southwest noted that travel in June and July is included in the sale. Southwest plane Southwest might be trying to satisfy customers with these sales, in light of some of their controversial changes to ending their “bags fly free” policy. When it comes to dining at Epic Universe, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well. Epic Universe We recently stopped by Cafe L’air de la Sirene in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – The Ministry of Magic to see what was cookin’, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to Universal’s newest theme park? Find out here! We’re inside Epic Universe during Annual Passholder previews before the theme park officially opens on May 22nd, 2025! We’ve been exploring the park day and night to bring you every detail of the new theme park, and we are obsessed. Let’s dive into the Wizarding World. Atmosphere When we first stepped into 1920s Paris (the theme of the land), we went straight to Cafe L’air de la Sirene! This quick service, which is named the Sirean’s Breath Cafe in English, has one large red entrance; however, thanks to the garden gates on the corner of the building, it was a bit confusing before we went inside. The Main entrance! There are several little garden gates on the corner of the building, but be warned, you can’t enter through them! The restaurant has some beautiful outdoor seating that makes you feel like you’re sitting on the streets of Paris. The outdoor section The indoor seating continues the beauty with high ceilings and intentional designs along the dark wood walls. It was lovely! This spot also offers mobile order. Similar to other Universal restaurants, the mobile order prompts you to enter your table number so the Team Members can bring it straight to you. A look inside! This special touch makes an already pretty perfect place kind of over-the-top spectacular for us! But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu When it comes to the menu, this spot offers croissants, pain au chocolat, a ratatouille baguette sandwich, a turkey baguette sandwich, salad niçoise, and more. You can also grab the famous Butterbeer crepes here! Bièraubeurre Crepe And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First up, we grabbed the Cassoulet Végétalien aux Haricots Blancs for $18.99. This is a rich stew made with cannellini beans, vegan sausage, vegan bacon, trumpet mushrooms, carrots, and tomatoes, topped with baguette croutons! Cassoulet Végétalien aux Haricots Blancs It might be too salty for some people, but it was perfect for us. The vegan sausage and vegan bacon probably contributed to that, but we would still recommend this to almost anyone looking for a solid plant-based meal! It was so rich and savory, with a smokiness from the vegan bacon, and super hearty and filling thanks to all those cannellini beans and veggies, especially the mushrooms! A closer look at the Cassoulet Végétalien aux Haricots Blancs Everything just blended together into a really delicious stew! The croutons were a really nice touch by adding flavor and crunch! If we’re being super critical, we would probably skip the vegan bacon because it left a bit of a bitter, smoky aftertaste that didn’t sit quite right for us. We love it! Next, we grabbed the Vegan Croissant! We aren’t being dramatic when we say it was flawless. The vegan croissant! It was buttery and flaky, but had no dairy! Our reporter will be stopping by to mobile order one every time they’re in the park to grab this simple snack. It also paired beautifully with the cassoulet! Pro tip — dip it in the cassoulet and eat them together! So tasty! We really enjoyed these items, but we needed something to wash them down with! Drinks To drink, we picked up the Lavender Lemonade for $5.50! To be honest, it didn’t taste like lavender at all. A team member assured us it actually does contain lavender extract and is meant to taste like it. The Lavender Lemonade! We couldn’t taste it at all, so if you’re looking for that floral flavor, you’ll be disappointed. That said, the lemonade itself is delicious. You just might be disappointed if you’re looking for lavender. Nosh or Not This Epic Universe restaurant is a must-visit if… You want a delicious meal or snack You are looking for a quality, quick service You want to enjoy a nice, picturesque atmosphere You should skip this Epic Universe spot if… You want more familiar options You are in a bit of a hurry and won’t enjoy the ambiance Need an on-the-go snack Overall Overall, this is without question a vegan destination. They’re offering exceptional food in multiple categories, in a setting that is like no other theme park restaurant we’ve ever been to. It genuinely feels like we’re sitting in a café in Paris—but in a dream, where everything is bigger and brighter and more fabulous. Our reporter literally said, “I want to live here”. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Universal and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Universal news and more!
