We have been ALL over Epic Universe and have enjoyed seeing the five new lands in Universal Orlando’s new theme park. Celestial Park in Epic Universe We’ve been on the rides, we’ve checked out the character meet and greets, and we’ve enjoyed the vibe of each land. However, most importantly, we’ve been checking out the FOOD, so we’re coming back at you with a NEW review, this time of a bar called The Plastered Owl (okay, is that not the COOLEST bar name ever?). So here are our honest thoughts. You’ll find The Plastered Owl connected to The Oak & Star Tavern, and the vibe is pretty much the same. Lots of wood-inspired colors. The bar gets its name from a “comical celestial owl,” who apparently spent a lot of time plastered (seriously, we love this bar’s name). You’ll even see some of the adventures of the owl in question on the wall carvings. Oak & Star Tavern The menu features ales on tap, fun cocktails, a mocktail, wine, and beer. We decided to give the mocktail a try. It’s called Enchanted Oak Sap and it costs $7. It’s made with Ginger purée, lime juice, rosemary-infused simple syrup, club soda with an orange wheel. Just a warning that the ginger flavor is STRONG — it’s the first flavor you’ll get. Enchanted Oak Sap The orange comes in second, though, so you get ginger then orange, and we’re not sure that’s a great combination. However, for being a mocktail, the flavor profile is similar to what you’d expect from a drink with alcohol. You’ll have to appreciate those flavors to appreciate this drink, though. Orange slices in the drink For the boozy side of things, we also tried the Witty Wolf’s Breakfast Sour for $19. It’s made with Rattlesnake Rosie’s Maple Bacon Whiskey, DeKuyper orange Curação, Grade A maple syrup, lemon juice, orange juice, and Angostura bitters, with an applewood-smoked bacon strip. Yep, bacon on a drink. Who would’ve thunk it? So it’s basically a twist on a whiskey sour, but with some additional breakfast flavors thrown in. Witty Wolf’s Breakfast Sour We think this adds to the whole whiskey sour thing — the breakfast flavors like the orange juice add some nice freshness that mellows it out. They also put the bacon flat on top, so when you’re sipping the drink, you’re getting the aromatics of the bacon, which adds a nice smokiness. This is really interesting and makes for a great first drink of the day in Epic Universe. Plus, you get some nice crispy bacon to eat after. Bacon makes it breakfast Overall, we’re okay with drinking our breakfast…just saying. Stay tuned to DFB for more. The current American tariff situation has caused some confusion and anxiety for consumers everywhere, but one popular wholesale retail chain is trying to ease concerns. ©Costco As the current presidential administration moves forward in implementing increased tariffs, regular folks around the world are trying to evaluate or taking their best guess as to what multiple looming trade wars could yield in terms of economic stability. Particularly as it relates to a trade war with China, the CEO of Costco says not to worry…too much. According to Entrepreneur, despite the global economic uncertainty, Costco doesn’t plan to raise its prices significantly nor make any dramatic changes. ©Costco Wholesale During Costco’s second-quarter earnings in March, CEO Ron Vachris noted that Costco intends to keep prices low “by leveraging our global buying power, strong supplier relationships, and innovation.” Vachris acknowledged that predicting the impact of tariffs remains difficult, but the company will remain steadfast in minimizing cost increases. ©Shutterstock Vachris also mentioned that “a third of our sales in the U.S. are imported from other countries, and less than half of those are items coming from China, Mexico, and Canada.” Thanks to this, Costco is expected to have a decent earnings outlook DESPITE the tariffs. ©Shutterstock The retailer expects consumers to be more mindful and purposeful in their spending as the impact of inflation and tariffs becomes more prominent. As such, Costco is prepared to adjust. We may just have to wait and see what exactly those adjustments look like. We’ll continue to keep you posted on this story as it develops, so stay tuned right here at DFB for all the latest updates. So you booked your Disney World trip in May thinking it would be the perfect time to go. Walt Disney World entrance Totally fair. May sounds like a sweet spot — spring break crowds are gone, summer vacation mobs haven’t rolled in yet, and you’re feeling optimistic. But trust us, there are a few curveballs this month likes to throw your way. Before you pack those mouse ears, let’s talk about some mistakes you don’t want to make on your trip. Underestimating the Heat If you’re coming from somewhere that’s still defrosting from winter, you might see Orlando’s May forecast and think, “Oh that’s not bad!” The average highs float in the 85 to 89 range. But last year? We were regularly hitting 95 degrees. Ninety. Five. Things start to get HOT in May That is not “casually stroll through Fantasyland” weather. That is “why am I sweating in places I didn’t know could sweat” weather. So, if you’re thinking of pulling up in your favorite jeans or some super cute but not-so-breathable outfit, rethink that now. Dress like it’s July. Prioritize shade. Hydrate like it’s your job. And yes, bring the fan. You know the one. Also, pack layers since it might be cooler in the mornings and evenings! Skipping EPCOT (Seriously, Don’t Do It) We know not everyone’s an EPCOT person. If your crew is more about thrill rides and characters, EPCOT might fall off your radar. But May is not the month to skip it. Why? Because the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is in full bloom (literally) until June 2nd. 2025 EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival The topiaries are next level, the food booths are some of the best you’ll see all year, and the vibes are immaculate. It’s like EPCOT’s spring glow-up. If you didn’t plan EPCOT into your itinerary, try to rearrange things. Even just a half-day gives you time to sample some booths, snap photos with the insane floral displays, and maybe even catch a Garden Rocks concert. Don’t leave this one off the list. Expecting to Ride Test Track (It’s a No-Go) While we’re talking EPCOT, let’s rip off this band-aid now: Test Track is closed. Yup, the high-speed ride is under construction and staying that way until at least late summer 2025. So if that’s been on your must-do list, go ahead and cross it off for now. Test Track construction Disney hasn’t released a specific reopening date, just that it’ll be back “late summer,” which sounds suspiciously like “not anytime soon.” So don’t be that person who plans the whole day around riding it—because you will end up staring at construction walls instead of zipping around that outdoor track. Thinking Big Thunder Mountain is Still Running (It’s Not) Jumping over to Magic Kingdom—another closure you might not know about: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed for refurbishment and it’s not coming back until sometime in 2026. That’s a long ride off into the sunset. Lots of work happening on Big Thunder Mountain So if you were hoping to scream your face off on “the wildest ride in the wilderness,” sorry, but it’s not happening in May. Make sure you’ve got other thrill rides on your list—Space Mountain, TRON, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train—to fill the Big Thunder void. Planning for New Attractions… Just a Little Too Early Big things are happening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — but not until the end of May. If you’re headed to the parks before May 27th, don’t expect to see the two newest shows on the block: The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After. The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure Both open on May 27th, and we’re expecting big crowds and major hype around them. If you’ve already booked your trip for earlier in the month, just know you’ll be juuuuust missing these new experiences. Ouch. But if you’re still on the fence about your dates and you really want to be one of the first to see these shows, it might be worth pushing your trip back just a bit. ©Disney We know — it’s a lot. May sounds simple on the surface, but Disney World is always full of those “oh no, I didn’t know that!” moments. That’s why we’ve got your back. You’re going to have a great time!! We know a lot of DFB readers are also Netflix fans, and probably are keeping up with some of Netflix’s hottest shows like Stranger Things, You, Wednesday, and more. ©Netflix However, one issue that many of us face is that when watching our favorite shows, we often prefer to use subtitles, but these subtitles lack customization options. For instance, what if we want to read (or not read) sound cues in addition to dialogue? Now, Netflix has added an option to remove those closed caption cues for a more personalized experience. For those of us who use captions on Netflix that don’t require audio cues, a new original language subtitles option is now available, which will only display the spoken dialogue. Previously, you would turn on Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, which includes both dialogue and audio cues, as well as speaker names. Now, though, you can just make those subtitles display the dialogue. ©Netflix Here’s how to choose the dialogue-only option for subtitles: When you open the language picker on the app, you’ll see two subtitle options in English: English, which is just the spoken dialogue, and English (CC), which includes dialogue and audio cues. Netflix has confirmed this will be available in every language. ©Netflix This will come in handy for those shows and movies where it’s hard to hear the dialogue (maybe because the movie or show sound mix is just so bad…which is ALL too common…or maybe because you’re in a noisy room or even maybe you want to keep the sound down if you don’t want to disturb others). You’re also still able to customize your subtitles by changing their size and font, too. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Lots of people fly to and from Disney World. Sometimes those flights are short — only an hour or two — while other people flying from across the country, or to ANOTHER country, could be on a plane for over 5 or 6 hours. Frontier Plane at the Orlando Airport When you’re flying, you have to be close to a lot of people you don’t know, and you’re trying to be respectful of those around you but also attempt to get as comfortable as possible. There’s a major debate that comes to using the reclining feature at your seat that we think should be common courtesy, but a lot of people aren’t doing it. Since those airplane seats are made to recline, it’s easy to think that you’re able to just throw them back and recline whenever you’d like. However, this means the person behind you suddenly has less room than they were expecting, unless they also have their seat reclined. This is especially true in economy, where the seats are closest together. Southwest Now, since your seat DOES recline, yes, you can certainly use that feature, and no one is saying you shouldn’t. It’s especially acceptable to recline when the cabin lights are out or it’s not mealtime. However, it’s important to remember other people around you and how YOU would feel if someone reclined the seat in front of you. This is especially true if the person behind me is using their laptop, and their computer could suddenly be stuck or crushed by the reclining seat. Tray Table So what’s the solution? Well, it’s simple — just take a quick look behind you and who’s sitting there and see if it’s okay to ask them if you can use the recline feature. We know, we know, talking to strangers is scary and often uncomfortable, but it’s a small price to pay for making sure you don’t accidentally spark intense resentment from the person behind you for your whole flight. Southwest Cabin If you can ask them if it’s okay to recline, great, but if you notice they’re sleeping already, don’t disturb them. If they’re using their tray table in one way or another, it’s especially important to ask, because it will affect them with no doubt. Now, if you’re able to catch their eye and they look up from your activity and can ask them, go for it! It’s very likely they’ll move their laptop or tablet quickly, then put it back in place once you’ve reclined. American Airlines Plane While there are certainly people in the world who will be honest with you and will tell you if reclining is not okay, we think there’s a larger portion of the population that either genuinely won’t mind it, or they’ll say it’s fine even if it’ll secretly annoy them. HOWEVER, by still asking them, you’ve given them the opportunity to say no, and simultaneously given them the heads up for what’s about to happen, so you’ve done your part. More Recent Travel News! Epic Universe officially opens its doors to the public on May 22nd, which is less than a month away! Epic Universe We’ve been visiting the park a LOT lately to make sure we can help you plan your upcoming vacation so that you don’t feel like you’re walking in unprepared. If you’re staying at a Universal Orlando hotel, one of the perks you receive is Early Entry into the theme parks, but we just noticed that this popular perk currently is NOT available for Epic Universe on one very important day. Epic Universe recently revealed its opening day hours, and upon closer examination, we found that there are currently no Early Park Admission hours listed for May 22nd. This means that no matter which Universal Hotel you’re staying at, the only two parks currently eligible for Early Admission that day are Volcano Bay and Islands of Adventure. ©Universal Now, beginning the next day, May 23rd, Early Park Admission hours are available at Epic Universe, and this continues through the current calendar date. So, why is there a restriction on May 22nd, you may ask? ©Universal Well, we still don’t know exactly what Universal has planned for opening day! The opening day could involve a special ceremony, which might require Universal to carefully regulate exactly when people can go inside the park. Plus, Universal may be anticipating some opening day kinks that will need to be worked out. According to a Universal Team Member, during early previews, the park is operating at around 20% capacity. Seeing as the park is sold out on opening day, that’s going to be quite a jump in park attendance. That said, we’re just speculating here; Universal has not made any official announcements about Early Admission on May 22nd. Portal Entrance to Isle of Berk As a reminder, the Early Park Admission perk comes with a few rules. First of all, only Universal Orlando hotel guests and other select groups can access the parks early. That means valid theme park admission is required. Early Admission is typically up to one hour prior to park opening, though Universal Volcano Bay allows access up to 30 minutes prior to park opening. Additionally, not all parts of the parks are open for Early Admission, and available theme parks, attractions, and times for Early Park Admission may vary. The Burning Blade Tavern We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this development and let you know what we see. More Recent Epic Universe News! There are literally HUNDREDS of things to do in just Magic Kingdom alone… But what do YOU need to prioritize at this popular Disney World park during YOUR next trip? Cinderella’s Castle Ah, Magic Kingdom… a place where there are no ugly pictures of Cinderella Castle, where the amount of rides for all ages is good ‘n’ plentiful, and where you can eat your weight in Mickey premium bars while lying on the hub grass and no one’s gonna think less of you. Magic Kingdom is a fan-favorite Disney park for many — and for good reason. There’s SO much to see and EAT here, and we’re gonna let you know about some of our favorite snacks! Magic Kingdom isn’t exactly our FAVORITE park to grab a sit-down meal at, but when it comes to snacks? OOH, BOY, that’s a WHOLE other ballgame, my friends! So, without further ado, we’re gonna let you know all about our TOP Magic Kingdom snack choices — some sweet, some savory, and some a little bit of BOTH. Hushpuppies The Hushpuppies from Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square are a “practically perfect” classic side item from this surf and turf quick service — but we like to treat ‘em as a SNACK all on their own. Hushpuppies They’re nice and crispy on the outside, thick and doughy on the inside, and just all-around deep-fried golden cornmeal balls of goodness with a few complete whole corn pieces smushed into all the fluffiness too, adding a hint of sweetness to this otherwise savory snack. We love these!!! And best of all? You can get a basket of these for just $5. The Gaston’s Tavern Trinity Before, our MAIN snack recommendation at Gaston’s Tavern in Fantasyland was the Warm Cinnamon Roll. And we stand by that! The warm cinnamon roll is filling, it’s thick and creamy, and it’s big enough to share, making it a GREAT breakfast option for those who are starting off their day with a rather large sweet tooth. Gaston’s Tavern — Warm Cinnamon Roll But recently, two MORE snack items were added to Gaston’s menu that we think have proven themselves MORE than worthy of being top MK snack contenders, as well. The Crème Brûlée Croissant took Fantasyland by storm when it debuted back in 2024 — and for GOOD reason. This sweet snack is made of a crispy croissant dough filled with vanilla bean custard and a glazed sugar layer covering the top. Not to be cliche (or sound like a vampire), but this treat was love at first bite. Once we sunk our teeth into all those sweet layers and cracked through that thin, creme brûlée-like baked sugar topping, we were already wondering when we’d have time to place our NEXT order before we finished up the FIRST one. Creme Brulee Croissant And if you prefer the savory stuff, the Ham and Gruyère Tart from Gaston’s is also a solid snack choice — made of crispy croissant dough, topped with ham and gruyère, and served with a side of chips for around $10. Once again, Gaston’s hits a home run with their croissant texture. The crust on this snack is soft, buttery, and flaky, and the savory ham pieces are salty, adding the perfect amount of extra chew. Then, you’ve got all that melted gruyère on top, adding a whole other layer of creamy, cheesiness that’s almost fondue-like. Ham and Gruyere Tart The moral of this story? You need to try Gaston’s Tavern, like, YESTERDAY. Spring Rolls The Adventureland spring roll cart is pretty unassuming, located right at the entrance to Adventureland. But that doesn’t keep the DFB team from tracking it down each time we’re in the park — because we are head over heels for the unique spring roll options served here. (And we’ve BEEN head over heels for ‘em for years and years and YEARS now) YUMMM –Adventureland Spring Rolls While the spring roll flavors switch out often (providing something new to try nearly EVERY time you visit), the one flavor that tends to stick around is the cheeseburger variety. Cheeseburger Spring Rolls Each spring roll order comes with two deep-fried and super crunchy rolls. But if you can’t decide which flavor to try — take a leap of faith and try both! You’re more than welcome to get two of the same flavors, OR you can choose to get one of each flavor for the same $9.50 price tag! (Depending on availability, that is. These spring rolls do tend to sell out towards the end of the day, so be sure to get in line for them SOONER rather than LATER) Candied Bacon Skewer Bacon is great. Candy is great. Snacks served up on a stick are great. So you put ‘em all together and whaddya get? HEAVEN. SHEER HEAVEN. The Candied Bacon Skewer at Westward Ho in Frontierland is a huge, thick piece of bacon, served with potato chips. That’s some thick bacon! Even though the flavor of the bacon is nice and smoky on its own, the candied brown-sugar coating gives the whole thing sweet-and-savory vibes — which is what REALLY pushes this over the top for us. The bacon meal Note: the texture of this bacon might not be for everyone — since this is more like a thick fatty piece of bacon rather than a thin and crispy one — so if you’re the type of person who only eats your bacon super well done (if not a little burnt), then this might not be the best snack for ya. Pineapple Upside Down Cake If you prefer to eat your DOLE Whip slightly soaked into a dense pineapple upside-down cake — you can order over at Aloha Isle in Adventureland. Pineapple Upside-down Cake from Aloha Isle Refreshments This cake has LOTS of chunks of pineapple baked right into it so that each sponge and dole whip bite is PACKED with tropical goodness. Does pineapple cut up our tongue each time we eat it? Sure. But is the pain worth it? Yooooooou betcha! Look at that cake! Snacking around Magic Kingdom is one of our favorite pastimes. We’re SCREAMING! Disneyland Celebrities have been visiting Disneyland since the “Happiest Place on Earth” first opened back in 1955. Over the last 75 years, major figures from politics, film, sports, and culture have visited the park, often with cameras in tow. Recently, an acclaimed Hollywood actress paid a visit. They captioned the post with “Screaming seeing these two queens together at @Disneyland ” and tagged the actress, a reference to Roberts’ role in the cult favorite television show Scream Queens. Roberts has a long career beyond that horror/comedy series. Born into a family of Hollywood royalty (Her father is actor Erik Roberts, and her aunt is actress Julia Roberts), Emma Roberts first burst onto the entertainment scene in the 2001 film Blow. Since then, she has starred on the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous. In the two decades since, she has appeared in many films, including Aquamarine, Nancy Drew, Hotel for Dogs, Valentine’s Day, Lymelife, Scream 4, Adult World, We’re the Millers, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Holidate, and Madame Web. She’s appeared on the small screen in the aforementioned Scream Queens, as well as various roles across multiple seasons of the FX anthology series American Horror Story. ©Disney/FX Actress Emma Roberts recently paid a visit to Disneyland, which the company officially shared on Instagram. Is this real life or just a glitch in the Matrix? Nope, it’s real — and it’s actually a huge Disney deal. Animal Kingdom Lodge One of Disney World’s most iconic and expensive resorts — Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge — is suddenly way more affordable than usual. We’re talking prices so low, they made us double-check the math. And yes, it involves those Savanna View rooms. Let’s talk about what’s going on, who qualifies, and why this deal is blowing up right now. So…Why Is Animal Kingdom Lodge So Much Cheaper? Disney doesn’t just throw massive discounts at deluxe resorts for fun. But right now, we’re looking at not one, but TWO major ways to score Animal Kingdom Lodge for a price that honestly feels like it belongs in 2012. First, Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. can book a Savanna View Room at Animal Kingdom Lodge for $339 per night this summer (2025). That’s a deluxe resort with giraffes outside your window level for cheaper than some Moderate resorts go for during peak season. The offer is valid on 2-night stays or longer for most nights between June 29th and July 31st, 2025. Animal Kingdom Lodge Second, if you’re from the UK or Ireland, Disney is rolling out the red carpet for your 2026 trip. How does €164 per person, per night sound? Oh, and that includes park tickets, Memory Maker, Park Hopper, FREE dining, and a €200 discount. We’ll get into the details in a sec but this is the type of deal that’ll make you rethink your vacation plans real fast. Let’s Break Down the UK/Ireland Deal If you’re planning a trip between January 7th and December 19th, 2026, and you’re booking from the UK or Ireland, here’s what you’re getting for €164 per person, per night when you stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge for 14 nights: FREE Disney Dining & Drinks (worth €1,273 per adult) A 14-Day Magic Ticket for the price of a 7-Day Ticket Park Hopper access Memory Maker (aka all your park photos, worth $210) And that sweet €200 off your Hotel & Ticket package Oh, and it only takes a €65 deposit per person to lock it in Animal Kingdom Lodge And yes, that’s at a deluxe resort where you can literally wake up, sip your coffee, and watch zebras stroll past your balcony. This is not your average “free hotel breakfast” kind of vibe. But Wait…FREE DINING?! Yep. It’s back — and this time, it’s baked into the UK/Ireland 2026 vacation package. For every night of your stay, every person in your group gets meals and drinks at over 170+ dining locations across Disney World. That includes everything from quick-service spots to signature dining and character meals. Sanaa Bread Service The value here is wild. A €1,273 savings per adult just on food? That’s like getting a whole extra vacation worth of meals for free. Whether you’re grabbing Mickey bars, Le Cellier steak, or sipping cocktails at a fancy resort lounge, it’s all part of the deal. Why Is This Happening? Disney is trying to get people to commit early, especially those planning big summer trips. These promos help fill resort rooms ahead of time, and they’re clearly targeting families who want value without giving up the deluxe resort experience. Animal Kingdom Lodge It’s also a way to make Disney+ subscribers feel like they’re getting a little extra bang for their monthly subscription — and let’s be real, a discount on a $700+/night room is a pretty solid perk. View from an Animal Kingdom Lodge room As for the UK/Ireland bundle, it’s Disney making a play for international travelers who need to plan far in advance. Including things like park tickets, meals, and Memory Maker in one neat package makes the whole trip feel simpler and more manageable — and the price point makes it extremely tempting. Should You Jump on It? If you were already thinking about a 2025 summer trip and you’ve got a Disney+ account, that $339 Savanna View deal is an easy win. Deluxe resort, animals roaming outside your room, and a price that’s usually reserved for Moderate stays? Yes, please. Savanna view And if you’re in the UK or Ireland looking ahead to 2026, this is one of those “don’t sleep on it” offers. Between the savings, the park perks, and the food included, it’s basically the Disney World cheat code. Just remember, bookings open April 29th, 2025, and you’ll need to reserve by November 5th, 2025, to snag that price. Savanna View Room at Animal Kingdom Lodge So yeah…Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge isn’t suddenly “cheap,” but it is finally attainable — and that’s a major shift. Whether you’re going for the giraffes, the dining, or just want to live your best deluxe life for way less, this might be your moment. New Alaska Airlines Tiana Plane Takes Flight to Disneyland Alaska Airlines is inviting guests to embrace adventure, dream big and soar across the skies with its new and most enchanting aircraft inspired by Princess Tiana from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “The Princess and the Frog.” Named “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Flyer,” this is the first Alaska Airlines plane to feature a Disney Princess! After the big reveal and joyful celebration at a gate ceremony in Portland, Ore., passengers boarded the inaugural flight to Orange County, Calif., to visit The Happiest Place on Earth — the Disneyland Resort. The specially painted plane will fly on routes across Alaska Airlines’ network for the next several years. Bringing Princess Tiana’s Story to Life in a Bold, New Way The plane’s exterior artwork celebrates the latest chapter in the princess and entrepreneur’s story featured in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the exhilarating water-based attraction and music filled journey in the newly renamed Bayou Country at Disneyland park. Adorned with images of Princess Tiana in her adventure wear, Louis the Alligator splashing among the water lilies on the bayou, and a brilliant trail of friendly fireflies flowing from the plane’s nose to tail, the Boeing 737-800, tail number N596AS, is Alaska Airlines’ ninth livery in collaboration with Disneyland Resort. To create this delightful design – which even includes Mama Odie and Prince Naveen on the winglets – it took artists more than 2000 hours to hand paint the vibrant aircraft exterior. Now, watch how the artists painted the Tiana plane! Enjoyment Onboard “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Flyer” For fun onboard, kids may enjoy a snack pack for purchase beginning this summer while supplies last. “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Flyer” Joins Fleet of Beloved Disneyland Resort-Themed Planes Alaska Airlines’ other Disneyland Resort-themed planes include: “Mickey’s Toontown Express,” picturing Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, along with their pals Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland park. The space-black “Star Wars Transport to the Disneyland Resort” livery that celebrates Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland park. “Friendship and Beyond at Disneyland Resort,” which portrays larger-than-life versions of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie in Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure park. “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Flyer” arrives just in time to bring visitors to Southern California for the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, which begins May 16, 2025, and runs through summer 2026, honoring seven decades of happiness and many moments of joy in the making. Magic Kingdom is full of exciting, entertaining, and magical experiences for guests of all ages. Magic Kingdom Some of these attractions are clearly popular, boasting high wait times at nearly all hours of the day, but there are a fewer newer additions to the park that we feel are MAJORLY underrated. Country Bear Musical Jamboree Anyone out there ever dream of smelling an elephant? Because if you have, then A.) Why? And B.) You can make that dream a REALITY over in Storybook Circus! It’s official: it’s time to party at Epic Universe! We’ve been inside the park as much as possible, trying every snack stand, restaurant, and ride so you can make the most of your Epic Universe ticket. Celestial Park We headed to Meteor Astropub at Celestial Park to bring you a full review of some of their iconic dishes. Should you add this to your Epic Universe day? Let’s find out! Atmosphere Meteor Astropub is a counter-service restaurant for “beer enthusiasts, cocktail lovers, and burger connoisseurs,” and luckily, we’re all three. Welcome! This vibrant gastropub is a meteor-themed hangout covered in stars and planets. When you walk in, it feels like a grown-up version of a space-loving little kid, which gives us a strong sense of nostalgia while we’re in the theme park, making us feel like little kids again. Tables and booths fill the room, offering options to sit at a high-top table for those seeking a more gastropub vibe. Amazing vibes The bronze and teal accents brighten up the space, complemented by the large glass windows and open doors that bring in the sunshine and fresh air. Big open windows Now that we’re sitting in this gorgeous space, let’s take a look at the menu. Menu Here at Metero Astropub, you’ll find familiar comfort meals with a modern twist. From fish and chips with wasabi fries to a grilled cheese sandwich with goat cheese, there’s a variety of handheld dishes to pair with specialty beverages, making for a complete experience. Come on in! They offer cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks such as the Coca-Cola Freestyle Machine and mocktails. Universal hasn’t released the full menu online just yet, but we will update when they do! Everything sounds so good, so let’s blast off to eat! Eats We started with the Astro Pub Burger for $16.99. Astro Pub Burger Made with Black Angus beef, American cheese, cherry pepper aioli, and garlic pickles on a potato roll, this is the classic cheeseburger kicked up about ten notches. The patty was thick, with beautiful melted cheese, and was cooked just how we like it, with a significant amount of juiciness. The cherry pepper aioli added a bit of punch of spice, but we didn’t find it too overwhelming. So juicy The steak fries were crispy but still fluffy in the middle, and we couldn’t help swiping off some of the extra sauce from the burger onto the fries. In the middle of a theme park day, sometimes a burger is what you need, and this burger could be just that. Crispy fries! Next, we dove into the Chicken and Waffles for $16.99. Chicken and Waffles What if we told you that you could get chicken, waffles, AND fries all on the same plate? Because, yeah, you totally can at Meteor Astropub. This dish is a crispy buttermilk chicken thigh topped with whisky bacon jam, spiced maple syrup, all on a liege waffle. The chicken was a bit dry, but that just means it soaks up the syrup better! After the syrup soaked into the top, it almost turned into a glaze. The heat was on the subtle side, so you could focus on the chicken. The inside The waffle was dry as well, which made it pair well with the chicken. While it might not be the best chicken and waffles we’ve ever had, if you’re looking for a filling meal that includes fries and syrup, this might be the dish for you. If you love dishes that blend sweet and savory flavors, grab these chicken and waffles. Toppings Now that we are filled up with burgers and chicken, let’s talk about what we had to drink. Drinks We grabbed the First Light Mocktail for $7 to see what it’s all about! First Light Mocktail Going to a gastropub-style restaurant when you’re not a huge drinker can be a bit overwhelming, but Meteor Astropub has non-alcoholic options to try. The First Light Mocktail is made with Monin blue raspberry syrup, Monin vanilla crème syrup, Blue Prism powder, Minute Maid blue raspberry, Sprite, and a sweet cream cold foam topped with a galactic sugar sprinkle. So blue Can we start by talking about how beautiful this is? It’s shimmering blue, and the foam makes it look like a real cocktail, so everyone can feel included. We might not call this an official mocktail, but rather a fancy soda, which we enjoy just as much. The blue raspberry flavor is upfront, with Sprite being the strongest. When we took a sip, we realized there were Pop Rocks on top, too! Pop Rocks! Nosh or Not You need to head to Meteor Astropub if you… Like a quiet but open space to take a break during your theme park day. Want familiar flavors with a twist. Enjoy meat-heavy dishes or dishes that play with sweet and savory. You might want to skip and head somewhere else if you… Want some of the more unique items Epic Universe has to offer. Like a more themed experience to your favorite movies and characters. Enjoy trying new dishes you might not have heard of before. Overall Our meal Meteor Astropub is a solid restaurant that escapes the chaos of Epic Universe with comfort dishes taken to the next level. You’ve likely heard of every item on the menu, but after spending the day exploring a new theme park where you don’t even know where the bathrooms are, it’s nice to sit down and eat a meal you know you’ll enjoy. The items weren’t out of this world, but they were familiar and brought us back to Earth, reminding us that we’re still in a theme park and there is nothing wrong with having a cheeseburger. We’re trying all the food at Epic Universe so you’re first day in the park can be as perfect as possible. Keep on following Disney Food Blog for the insider tips on the best theme park food. Y’all. It is HARD being a fan of TV shows on streaming services. That’s because it seems like every time you get into a new show, the streaming service turns around and cancels it. ©Amazon It’s especially frustrating when a show gets canceled after one season (Disney+, we’re looking at you because we’re STILL mad about The Acolyte). Well, if you were a fan of the Clean Slate series on Amazon, we’ve got a bit of bad news about it. According to Variety, Clean Slate has been canceled…yep, after just one season. Yes, Clean Slate got one season and now it’s officially gone. The show originally premiered in February (which means it wasn’t given a lot of time to find its audience) and starred Laverne Cox, George Wallace, Jay Wilkison, D.K. Uzoukwu, Telma Hopkins, Philip Garcia, and Norah Murphy. What makes this cancelation even sadder is that this was the last series produced by Norman Lear before his death in 2023. ©Amazon The series “follows Harry Slate (Wallace), an old-school and outspoken Alabama car wash owner, who has a lot of soul searching to do when the estranged child he thought was a son returns home to Mobile as a proud, trans woman, Desiree (Cox).” The series was co-created by both Wallace and Cox. What’s even more disappointing is that the series received pretty good reviews with an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. But as we’ve seen with previous shows, critical reviews don’t equal audience views, although it could be argued that many streaming series really aren’t given enough time to find those viewers. Some NEW additions are coming to Orlando International Airport (MCO). ©Orlando International Airport According to the Orlando Business Journal, Signature Aviation has entered into an agreement with MCO to build several new additions to the airport, including an 8,000-square-foot terminal along with two 30,000-square-foot group storage hangars, each of which will include 2,500 square feet of attached office space. According to the outlet, Winter Park-based design firm Schenkel Shultz will be designing the terminal, which will feature a “VIP lounge, spaces for flight rooms, a main lobby and private conference rooms.” It was confirmed that during the construction period, 2,000 square feet within the adjacent Southwest Airlines Training Building will be used as a temporary terminal. ©Southwest Airlines The new project, which is in addition to further additions and renovations coming to MCO, comes at a time when the general aviation industry is growing. Since 2020, the industry has grown by over 150,000 jobs and $92 billion in annual economic impact. Darren Pleasance, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association president and CEO, said of the growth,“This report shows the growing impact of general aviation in every part of the U.S.. Since the last report in 2020, the number of people learning to fly has nearly doubled, proving once again that general aviation provides more value than ever to communities across the country.” Orlando International Airport A construction timeline for the project has not been revealed by either MCO or Signature Aviation as of press time. If you’ve ever tried ordering a Dr. Pepper at Disney World, you probably learned the hard way that it’s not exactly welcome around here. Disney World Thanks to Disney’s longstanding deal with Coca-Cola, most places only serve Coke products—which means Dr. Pepper fans are usually out of luck. BUT after one extremely niche sidequest, I’ve cracked the code on where to find Pibb Xtra and the few places that actually serve real Dr. Pepper. Let’s just say I’m now the self-proclaimed Soda Sommelier of Disney World. First, the Rules of the Game If you didn’t know, Dr. Pepper is NOT a Coca-Cola product. It’s owned by Keurig Dr. Pepper, and that makes it basically persona non grata on most of Disney property. Instead, you’ll usually find Pibb Xtra — Coca-Cola’s spicier, slightly more intense attempt to replicate the flavor profile of Dr. Pepper. Pibb Xtra Because of that exclusivity deal with Coke, Disney only offers Coke beverages in most of its parks, restaurants, and hotels. But here’s where things get a bit weird: third-party vendors have found some sneaky workarounds. And once I caught wind of this, I had to know exactly where I could get my hands on these elusive sodas. So, this turned into a full-blown mission, and now, I have the receipts. Where to Find Pibb Xtra in Disney World If you’re willing to settle for Pibb Xtra (which, to be fair, is still delicious), your odds are much better. Here’s everywhere we’ve found it: Magic Kingdom This one’s tricky. Pibb Xtra is not served in the park itself, but if you’re a Disney Vacation Club Member, you’re in luck. Head to McKim’s Mile House in Frontierland and hit up the Coke Freestyle Machine there. McKim’s Mile House is the new DVC lounge in Magic Kingdom EPCOT No Pibb Xtra is sold in regular park locations, but again, DVC Members have a secret perk. Go to the ImaginAtrium and use the Freestyle Machines to grab that sweet spicy goodness. Imaginatrium Hollywood Studios This park actually has some solid options: There’s a vending machine outside the park (near the Skyliner and bus station) that has Pibb Xtra. Yes, it’s outside the park. Yes, it’s still worth it. Rosie’s All-American Café inside the park also has Pibb Xtra on tap, so mark that spot. Rosie’s All American Cafe Animal Kingdom You’ll only find it at Yak and Yeti Restaurant (the sit-down, not the quick service). They’re one of the few places that slipped through the Coca-Cola matrix. Yak and Yeti at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Disney Springs T-Rex serves Pibb Xtra. T-Rex The Coca-Cola rooftop bar has Freestyle Machines that include Pibb Xtra (honestly, this might be the most satisfying soda-pouring experience on property). Coca Cola Store Disney World Hotels You can find Pibb Xtra at any resort that has Coke Freestyle Machines. Here are a few confirmed locations: Primo Piatto at Disney’s Riviera Resort Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian The Market at Ale & Compass at Disney’s Yacht Club Beach Club Marketplace at Disney’s Beach Club Various buildings at Caribbean Beach Resort Crockett’s Tavern at Fort Wilderness also has it—and bonus, it’s a great place to chill with a drink away from the crowds. Crockett’s Tavern And Now… the Unicorn: Dr. Pepper I’m gonna be real with you. Finding Dr. Pepper at Disney World is like spotting a wild Mickey in the jungle—extremely rare, borderline mythical, but not impossible. Here’s where we’ve struck gold: Rainforest Cafe (both the restaurant and the attached Lava Lounge) in Disney Springs is your one-stop shop for the real thing. Somehow, they’ve managed to break free from the Coca-Cola stronghold and carry Dr. Pepper on the regular menu. Rainforest Cafe in Disney Springs That’s it. That’s the list. What We Learned from Our Soda Sidequest Freestyle Machines are Your Friend. These machines are the secret weapon if you’re hunting for Pibb Xtra. If you’re a DVC member or staying at a resort with one, you’ve basically got the golden ticket. Third-Party Restaurants Bend the Rules. Disney-run spots are locked into the Coke contract, but places like Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex (which are operated by Landry’s) seem to operate under a looser leash. Soda machines We didn’t expect to become soda experts just by hanging out at Disney World every day, but here we are—armed with a notepad full of drink machines and a ridiculous level of enthusiasm for carbonated beverages. Mr. Pibb at Rosie’s If you’re on the hunt for Dr. Pepper or Pibb Xtra, hopefully, this guide saves you from wasting your time asking every Cast Member in sight (trust us, we’ve done that for you). In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest from Disney, so stay tuned for more. The Best Restaurants in Disney World in 2025 Need Disney Restaurant Advice? We’re less than a month away from the official opening of Epic Universe on May 22nd, and we couldn’t be more excited! Portal Entrance to Super Nintendo World Currently, the park is operating at around 20% capacity during Annual Passholder previews (ongoing through May 19th), but when it opens fully, it’ll be at full capacity (100%). How many of these days are really looking like they’ll be at full capacity, though? Well, we just took a look at ticket sales, and those of you who are visiting during the first few weeks may want to prepare yourselves. At the time of writing, all of Epic Universe’s one-day ticket days in May (May 22nd through the end of the month) are SOLD OUT! This means that, at this time, if you haven’t already bought a ticket for Epic Universe, you won’t be able to go in May unless more tickets are released (and currently, no plans for that have been announced). ©Universal As for June, dates are beginning to sell out too! Almost the entire first week of the month is sold out, with the exception of Saturday, June 7th. Additionally, June 8th, 9th, 13th, and 20th are now sold out as well. ©Universal We’re expecting to see more and more of these dates sell out, so be sure to grab your tickets ASAP if you’re interested in visiting the park over the summer/close to its opening day. Just when we thought we were out, Epic Universe pulls us back in. Just kidding — we could literally never get enough of this place! Celestial Park Epic Universe is home to five different themed lands, including Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe. We’re heading BACK to the Oak & Star Tavern at Celestial Park to check out some more eats! Atmosphere The Oak & Star Tavern is a barbecue joint located in Epic Universe’s hub, Celestial Park. According to Universal, at Oak & Star Tavern, you “can gather with family or friends ’round the fiery hearth of an ancient, starlight-filled oak tree.” The Oak & Star Tavern It does really feel like you’re in a treehouse when you’re inside this restaurant — it’s simply gorgeous! Oak & Star Tavern is very nature-inspired and fits well in Celestial Park. There are multiple dining rooms, and it is a low-key, quick-service location. Welcome in! But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu Since this is a barbecue restaurant, dishes include a BBQ Platter with Mango Bread & Pickles, pulled pork, and meat platters (you’re starting to get the idea…). The Plastered Owl will be featured among the cocktails… which you can also pick up at The Plastered Owl bar, which will be tucked inside the Tavern! Oak and Star Tavern Menu And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats We grabbed the Huli Huli Pulled Pork sandwich for $17.99. This is a smoked kalua pulled pork sandwich with huli huli sauce and tropical coleslaw on a pan sobao bun. You get one side with this sandwich, so we opted for the Mango Bread! Huli Huli Pulled Pork We had previously loved everything we had here, so we had high hopes, but the Huli Huli Pulled Pork sandwich just fell flat for us. It wasn’t bad, it was just a little bit disappointing. The roll it was served on was on the dry and stale side, which wasn’t great. The pulled pork itself was solid — it wasn’t too dry, but it also wasn’t the best pulled pork we’ve ever had — even at a theme park. But then you get into the middle of the sandwich, and that’s where all the good stuff is. That’s when you taste the little chunks of pineapple, and the more interesting elements that make this more of an elevated pulled pork sandwich. Our disappointment didn’t last too long because the tropical coleslaw really saved the day. We would certainly come back here and try something different, but this one wasn’t a total hit for us. Huli Huli Pulled Pork The Mango Bread — which we’ve had before — is so sweet and SO good. Mango can be a divisive flavor for many, but this mostly just tastes tropical or even a bit citrusy. It’s just really sweet, really moist, and a great addition to the savory meats served here. It broke apart really easily without being flaky or anything like that, too. Mango Bread We also picked up the Three Cheese Mac and Cheese as an additional side for $4.99. Well, there was definitely a lot of cheese! This was seriously cheesy, but it wasn’t the creamiest mac and cheese we’ve ever had — it was definitely a baked mac and cheese, which can sometimes be a little dry. That was the case here. There was a good cheesy flavor, but it wasn’t dimensional — no hint of garlic or paprika. We did love the nice crust on top for an added crunch, and the noodles weren’t under- or overdone, which was a plus. This would be great for picky eaters! Three Cheese Mac and Cheese Nosh or Not This restaurant is a must-visit if… You’re looking for something quick to eat that’s also substantial in Celestial Park. You want to enjoy the atmosphere of this gorgeous restaurant! You should skip this spot if… You’re a barbecue fiend. You’ll likely leave a bit disappointed. You’re looking for a more formal, sit-down meal with table service. Overall We still think The Oak & Star Tavern is a great place to stop for a bite to eat. While we weren’t particularly wowed by the pulled pork sandwich, it was something different for a theme park, thanks to that tropical coleslaw that saved the day. The mac and cheese was also a solid option, but again, nothing to write home about. We would come back to this spot for that mango bread again and again and again, though, so don’t be surprised if you spot us under the oak tree! Oak & Star Tavern In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Epic Universe and beyond. Epic Universe has been a hot topic of conversation for weeks now, ever since Team Members began being able to visit the parks back in March. Celestial Park Currently, Annual Passholder previews are ongoing before the park officially opens to the public on May 22nd, and many people are wondering how they can get into the park early to experience its magic BEFORE the park hits full capacity when it officially opens. Believe it or not, there are a few different ways you can get into this park early! Become An Annual Passholder Now, we know this seems a little extreme, especially because the current Annual Passes on sale for Universal Orlando don’t include Epic Universe at this time (other than access to purchase one-day tickets once the park opens, but again, that’s open to everyone at this time), but if you do become an Annual Passholder, you can book yourself a preview date to see the park! Portal Entrance to Super Nintendo World In fact, Annual Passholder previews were just extended through May 19th, just a few days before the park’s official opening. Originally, the cutoff date was May 8th, but it appears Universal would like to continue testing how the park is doing at lower capacity before its official opening. Isle of Berk You’ll need to make sure your annual passholder card number is linked inside the wallet of your app, and if you’re planning to purchase tickets for multiple passholders on the same transaction to attend on the same day, they’ll also need to be linked in the wallet of the person buying the tickets. At this time, Annual Passholders can purchase tickets to multiple different preview days. 3 Things I Wish I Knew Before Leaving Epic Universe Book A Stay At A Universal Orlando Hotel If you don’t want to take the plunge and become an Annual Passholder, that’s totally understandable. Thankfully, you can also get into the park early by booking at stay at one of Universal Orlando’s hotels! This includes all the hotels on property, which are: Universal Endless Summer Resort – Dockside Inn and Suites Universal Endless Summer Resort – Surfside Inn and Suites Loews Portofino Bay Hotel Universal Aventura Hotel Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort Loews Sapphire Falls Resort Loews Royal Pacific Resort Hard Rock Hotel® Universal Helios Grand Hotel Universal Stella Nova Resort Universal Terra Luna Resort Bar Helios at Helios Grand Hotel Staying at a Universal Orlando hotel will ALSO get you early entry into the park, something that the Annual Passholders previewing the park don’t get. It’s a great way to get in line for your favorite attraction before the larger crowds get there (and again, going during previews when the park is only at 20% capacity is PRIME time to go, but crowds can form, and certainly still will!). Universal Stella Nova FULL LOOK INSIDE the How To Train Your Dragon Kids Suite at Universal’s Helios Grand Hotel 2025 Military Freedom Pass Ticket Holders If you currently have the 2025 Military Freedom Pass, which is for Active Duty, Reservist, National Guard, and Retired members of all branches of the U.S. Military and/or their spouses, 100% Disabled Veterans, and Department of Defense Civilian personnel members, you also qualify for a preview of Epic Universe! Celestial Park This can be added to your existing ticket, and any date from now through May 19th is currently eligible. Now, this does cost an additional fee, so keep that in mind, but again, it’s a great way to experience the park with lower crowds! I Don’t Want To Sound Too Dramatic, But This Epic Universe Souvenir Changed My Life Universal Rewards Signature VISA Card Members If you’re a Universal Rewards Signature VISA Card member, you can also get access to Epic Universe previews now through May 19th! Isle of Berk Now, you will have to wait to be approved for the credit card, which may take some time and is something to consider, so be sure to take that into account and plan ahead to see if you’ll have enough time to be approved, and then book a preview ticket. Portal Entrance into the Ministry of Magic As of right now, these are the only ways guaranteed to get you into Epic Universe early, and we can say from experience that getting to visit the park at 20% capacity vs. 100% capacity is VERY nice, and we certainly recommend experiencing it this way if you can. However, we’ll be in the park at full capacity too for opening and can’t wait to bring you all the latest news, so stay tuned to DFB! Checking out of a Disney World hotel room can be a bit stressful. Gathering one’s belongings, making sure nothing’s left behind, preparing bags for plane or car travel, etc. On top of that, according to some reports, Disney is adding another layer on top of it. Room View According to Walt Disney World policy, “If you have a credit card on file—or you have a zero-dollar balance—it’s easy to check out of your room, with no need to stop by the Front Desk! You can enjoy streamlined checkout through the My Disney Experience app. Just open the app menu and select “Hotel Reservations”. Then select “View Charges” to begin checking out. If you forget—no worries, you’ll be automatically checked out at our checkout time, 11:00 AM.” However, it’s that final automatic checkout that seems to be causing issues. According to guest reports online, some have found themselves automatically checked out and locked out of their rooms EARLIER than the 11:00 AM timeframe. According to these guests, it’s because they were told that location services built into the My Disney Experience App had registered them as being off of hotel property and therefore triggered the automatic checkout, deactivating their digital room key and leaving them locked out from their belongings. Port Orleans — Riverside While this may not seem like too big of an issue in theory — after all, many spend the morning of their checkout gathering their belongings — it can cause problems for guests who take an early trip into one of the theme parks to squeeze in a final ride or grab breakfast at park, other hotel, or Disney Springs. Breakfast at ‘Ohana Until this glitch is addressed, we would advise guests to either have breakfast at their hotel or drop their bags off with Luggage Services if they’re going to grab breakfast off hotel property or head into a park for an early morning jaunt prior to 11:00 AM. The luggage assistance desk! According to reports, a new Disney hotel policy may be automatically checking guests out BEFORE 11:00 AM, and should be taken into account when planning the final morning of your trip! Stay tuned to DFB for more on this potential issue.
