Fans of Epcot’s Italy Pavilion can take advantage of a new menu offering this Summer. Learn About: Tutto Italia Ristorante Epcot Restaurants Disney World Restaurants As temps heat up, Tutto Italia Ristorante, Italy’s traditional table service restaurant, is adding a prix fixe lunch option. The price for the three-course meal will be $27, and will include your choice of soft drink or iced tea as well. As with other prix fixe meals within Epcot’s World Showcase restaurants, guests may choose from a list of several options for appetizer, entree, and dessert. Here’s a quick look at the choices! Appetizer: Antipasto (sopressata, finocchiona, roasted peppers, ovolini mozzarella) Insalata Mista (endive, arugula, radicchio, white asparagus, radish, balsamic vinaigrette) Caprese (fior di latte mozzarella, tomato, basil, extra virgin olive oil) Minestrone (spring vegetables, pancetta, pastina) Entree: Scaloppine di Pollo (chicken scaloppini, cremini mushrooms, marsala sauce) Filetto di Sogliola (parmesan encrusted filet of sole, spring mix salad, citrus vinaigrette) Caesar Salad (romaine wedge, chicken, olive crostini, shaved parmesan) Spaghetti (beef and veal meatballs, pomodoro sauce) Classic spaghetti and meatballs with red sauce Dessert: Cannolo Tiramisu Gelati (chocolate, vanilla, stracciatella) Raspberry Gelato Given that Tutto Italia tends to be pricey, this is a pretty decent value if you’re dining without the benefit of the Disney Dining Plan. The latest stop in my monthly quest to visit all 11 countries of World Showcase at Epcot takes me to Morocco Pavilion. This pavilion joined World Showcase in 1984 and is located between France and Japan Pavilions. Wandering throughout the narrow streets, I feel like I’m transported to a distant land every time I visit. Upon entering Morocco, one of the most striking aspects is the level of detail found throughout the pavilion. Moroccan artists spent many months creating the incredible geometric patterns found throughout the architecture. The recreation of the Koutoubia Minaret, a prayer tower in Marrakesh that towers over the entrance to Morocco, is impressive. Located just beyond the entrance is The Medina, a collection of interconnected shops that contain the same energy and excitement found in a busy Moroccan market. Guests visiting these shops will find everything from home decorative items to apparel to luxurious rugs. The bold and bright colors used on products really standout in every shop. I particularly liked the lamps, ornate jewelry, and decorative Thuya wood boxes. Look carefully as you may spot a hidden Mickey or two in the shops. Along World Showcase Promenade, guests will find Souk-Al-Magreb. This shop is adjacent to the Spice Road Table restaurant and contains gifts with the Moroccan flag, wine, spices, tea sets and beautiful pottery. It’s hard to believe another month has flown by. In April, we welcomed the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, continued eating our way around the world at Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival and are getting ready to Awaken Summer at Disney Parks. What’s hot in Food & Beverage for the month of April? Keep reading to find out! For a limited time, Writer’s Stop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is serving up delicious new snacks. Look for a charcuterie and cheese plate, sugar-spiced nuts and a warm German pretzel with cheese sauce in addition to a selection of specialty cocktails, craft beers and wines. And yes, the Carrot Cake Cookie is back. Not sure what you’re in the mood for at Napa Rose Lounge? I have a great tip for you, on a recent trip to Disneyland, I learned that you can describe your preferences to the bartender and they will make you a drink tailored just to you! Superstar bartender and Sommelier Ryland (pictured above) made me a delish drink with a Pinot Noir Rosé, gin, velvet falernum, lemon juice, passion fruit syrup, luxardo maraschino liqueur and egg white, garnished with edible flowers. There’s a new Jungle VIP! To celebrate the opening of “The Jungle Book” in theaters, Award Wieners has a new specialty tumbler and a mango dipping sauce for the Banana Corn Dogs. These offerings will only be around for a limited time, so swing by today! In the American Adventure pavilion at Epcot, Liberty Inn has added clam chowder soup and a frozen Coke with a float of Buffalo Trace bourbon whiskey. Fife & Drum Tavern as added Henry’s Hard Orange Soda (also available as a float) and Block & Hans has a new craft beer lineup. Over in the United Kingdom pavilion at Epcot, you’ll find house made crisps (also known as chips) at the United Kingdom Beer Cart. Choose from original or (my personal favorite) salt and vinegar, they’re a great salty snack. We’re going bananas for a tasty new item at Royal Street Veranda in Disneyland park! These New Orleans fritters are bursting with banana and drizzled with a Smuckers raspberry sauce. Looking for the perfect Mother’s Day surprise for mom? Bring her to Chocolate Factory featuring Mother’s Day! A fun event for the whole family centered around chocolate, there will be fun specialty drinks for adults and kids and of course decadent desserts. This delicious event takes place at Ariel’s at Disney’s Beach Club Resort 1-5 p.m. on May 8. Cost is $38 for adults, $20 for kids. Reservations can be made by calling 407-934-1470. If you haven’t checked out the burger toppings bar at Restaurantosaurus at Disney’s Animal Kingdom lately, you’re going to want to. We’ve added everything from bleu cheese crumbles to guacamole – YUM. Or check out one of the other new additions to the menu: a warm chocolate turtle brownie and chili cheese fries. Considering the many up-and-coming events on the way to Animal Kingdom (kicking off on Memorial Day Weekend), it’s no surprise to see menu changes popping up in several eateries, too. Learn About: Flame Tree Barbecue Animal Kingdom Disney World Restaurants We recently checked out the updated menu at DinoLand’s Restaurantosaurus, and we’ll soon be taking a peek at several news items that have shown up at Pizzafari. Today, though, we’re visiting Discovery Island’s Flame Tree Barbecue, which has recently received a menu makeover of its own (this follows up from the spot’s physical makeover last year). Flame Tree Barbecue is absolutely a crowd favorite when it comes to full meal Counter Service options at Animal Kingdom. Similar to Pizzafari, the name tells you just about everything you need to know regarding the main attraction. Here, it’s barbecue. And I think some of the popularity lies in the fact that you can often pick up on the smoky and tempting fragrance in the air around it, even before you spot the eatery itself! Flame Tree Barbecue Sign Once you get there, it can be pretty hard to resist. So let’s waste no time and get into our visit! Atmosphere Flame Tree Barbecue is located in Discovery Island, and longtime visitors will probably notice the results of last year’s makeover easily. Aside from the extended roof offering some shade to guests waiting for registers, the colors in the ordering area have changed from the previous bright shades to more subdued, earthy tones (you’ll notice the same trend at pretty much every eatery that lines Discovery Island these days). Flame Tree Barbecue Menu Sign Flame Tree Barbecue sign In other areas, though — including the order and preparation area — you can still get your fill of bold, bright colors. Cast Members Preparing Orders Outside seating remains the only option here, but many tables and several entire seating areas are pleasantly covered for those hot Florida days. Outside Dining Area Plenty of trees throughout the area offer even more shade, in addition to being beautiful to look at. Beautiful Outside Atmosphere An added bonus: many of the small seating pavilions (all located behind the ordering area) offer views of Discovery River and Expedition Everest as well as what will soon be the Rivers of Light nighttime show. View of Discovery River And remember, even though the upcoming Rivers of Light evening spectacular has met with delays, Discovery River is scheduled play host to a new show, “The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic” while Rivers of Light remains in development. Though we don’t know the setup of that show, seating at Flame Tree Barbecue may offer some nice views. As we’ve discussed during previous visits, the theming here is certainly unique… Flame Tree Barbecue Statue The Circle of Life is the common story thread throughout the area, which goes hand in hand with the park’s goal of educating visitors about our animal friends in a fun atmosphere. Circle of Life Theming Don’t worry about the little ones, though! The bright and fun colors serve to keep the whole predator-versus-prey element from being violent or scary. Predator vs. Prey Brightly Colored Pavilions In fact, the whimsical color palette that remains in play throughout the seating area might keep many guests from noticing scenes like these below at all. Snakes vs. Mice Pavilion Anteaters vs. Ants Pavilion Alligator vs. Fish Pavilion Tables and chairs are likewise colorful and mismatched in keeping with the rest of the outdoor area, though a few of these have also received a toned-down makeover. Mismatched Table and Chairs Themed Table Tops Now that we’ve meandered a bit, let’s get to those new eats! Eats The barbecue-based menu at Flame Tree still includes go-to classics like the Pulled Pork Sandwich and Ribs and Chicken Combo. Flame Tree Barbecue Menu Thankfully, the terrific Onion Rings they serve here survived the recent menu makeover! But we’ll be checking out the new side item today instead: French Fries with Pulled Pork and Cheese. Flame Tree Barbecue Menu Make sure to stop by a condiments station to load up and add to your BBQ goodies. (Note the stations are not in the ordering area like a typical Counter Service. You’ll find several located throughout the seating pavilions, so you can grab your seat first!) In addition to ketchup, they also have self-serve offerings of tasty barbecue and sweet and sour sauces. Ketchup, Barbecue and Sweet and Sour Sauces Heads up: you may need a fair amount of those sauces if you plan to dig into the first newer item on the menu: a FULL Slab of St. Louis Ribs! Full Slab of St. Louis Ribs You may be quite familiar with the popular 1/2 Slab, which is still available for those who are intimidated by this massive amount of food (the half option is noted under the Full portion’s menu listing). The Full Slab comes in at a whopping $19.99 (and is also available for one Quick Service meal credit on the Disney Dining Plan, like the rest of the entrees at Flame Tree Barbecue). But check this out… if two people in your party are interested in this menu item, this plate is easily sharable. Along with a full rack of huge ribs, you also get sides of slowly-baked beans, coleslaw, and a large piece of the amazing jalapeño cornbread! Slowly-Baked Beans Coleslaw Jalapeño Cornbread Plus, yeah… that full rack of ribs! As always, both the smoky flavor and tenderness of the ribs was spot-on. St. Louis Ribs Taking the menu spot of the Jumbo Turkey Leg, which was recently removed entirely from Animal Kingdom (don’t worry — you can still find this iconic eat at the other three Disney World parks) is another GIGANTIC plate to consider: the Ribs, Chicken and Pulled Pork Sampler. Ribs, Chicken and Pulled Pork Sampler Noted on the menu as the “Ultimate Flame Tree Barbecue Platter,” this is the plate for those who want some of everything! Let’s take a look at the portions for each of the three (which are also served with the same three side items as the Full Slab of Ribs). Here are the smoked ribs… Smoked Ribs We needed to take a couple of pictures to give you an idea of the serving of smoked chicken. Smoked Chicken Smoked Chicken And finally, you receive a large amount of pulled pork! Pulled Pork Yeah, this plate really is MASSIVE! But it’s pretty awesome having the option to try all the house specialties. And like the Full Slab of Ribs, this is totally sharable (especially keeping in mind the similar price tag to the Full Slab). Not quite in the mood for ALL of that ? The new salad selection might be more up your alley. The Roasted Chicken with Mixed Greens Salad joins the Watermelon Salad in the lineup. Roasted Chicken with Mixed Greens Salad Unlike the disappointing version of this salad of the same name that we tried at Restaurantosaurus, Flame Tree’s take entirely filled the nice-sized plate. The salad is a mixture of field greens and slices of roasted chicken breast. Roasted Chicken Red apple wedges and lots of shredded cheddar and pecans are where this version further differs from the Roasted Chicken Salad at Restaurantosaurus. Red Apple Wedges Shredded Cheddar and Pecans The dressing mixed with the greens is a tasty apple cider vinaigrette. The chicken was mildly seasoned, but it didn’t have the same kick that the Jerk Chicken Salad that was previously served here offered. It was still very nicely flavored overall, though. The only thing I’m sad to see gone are those cornbread croutons! Okay. Here it is: for those of you looking for a completely BRILLIANT use of your snack credit from the Disney Dining Plan during your Animal Kingdom visit, check out this new side item: French Fries with Pulled Pork and Cheese! French Fries with Pulled Pork and Cheese Lots of French Fries fill the plate, and they are topped with the same tender and very slightly charred pulled pork that makes up the Pulled Pork Sandwich. It’s all further topped with a hearty drizzle of barbecue sauce. Pulled Pork, Cheese and Barbecue Sauce And YES, also topping all that is plenty of plastic cheese (just like we saw at Restaurantosaurus on the new Chili Cheese Fries)!!! Oh, and a few diced green peppers, too :). Green Peppers on Top The overall combo is rich and tasty, offering plenty of bang for your buck for those paying the $6.49 out of pocket, too. When you consider the amount of pork packed in here, along with the potatoes and generous amounts of cheese, this really strikes me as more of a small meal than the side item it’s classified as. Seriously, grab some forks and napkins (because this isn’t really finger food anymore after all that pork ) and DIG IN!! Overall Flame Tree Barbecue should still be a guest favorite when it comes to Animal Kingdom Counter Service options. And its popularity, I believe, will only continue to rise. This is not only because the food still offers one of the most appealing Counter Service bets in all the Disney World parks, but it’s also due to some prime real estate. Flame Tree’s lovely outdoor seating is bound to become even more appealing when evening activities kick off at Animal Kingdom on Memorial Day Weekend, with a location right in the heart of much of the upcoming action. However, with these new options and their focus on unusually large entrees, it will likely pay to consider the menu in advance and be a little more strategic in ordering than you may have been in the past (or, for first time guests, to understand that these particular portion sizes and Counter Service prices are unique to Flame Tree Barbecue at this time). Though prices are steep for the two new entrees, you may find that you actually save a buck or two with sharing while still getting your fill of tasty barbecue goodness. With so many changes taking place right now and even more on the way, you’ll see us back here at Disney’s beautiful Animal Kingdom VERY soon! The new live action movie “The Jungle Book” is now in theaters, and earlier this week we announced a new, limited-engagement show “The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic” Show” for the summer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. My kids and I love this classic story, and we’re so excited to see it come to life in new ways at Walt Disney World. During each month this year, I’ve been highlighting various stylish products from Disney Parks as part of a “Style Happens Here” series. Last month, I discussed new apparel from our Twenty Eight & Main men’s collection. With spring in the air, I now turn to apparel for women. I visited Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort to check out the latest arrivals. The Disney Parks Merchandise team typically sets new apparel items in spring and fall each year. This year’s spring collection includes several items featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse. If you want to add a splash of color to your wardrobe, Mickey and Minnie are also shown on these four brightly colored T-shirts. New Disney Boutique items will include nods to classic Disney characters such as Bambi or Alice from Walt Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland.” There are also shirts with Disney Princesses including Snow White, Ariel, Princess Aurora, Belle and Cinderella. Finally, we released a small assortment of activewear that’s perfect for the gym. These items are a nice update to the previously released activewear shown in this article. I love the subtle nods to Mickey Mouse throughout the designs. Look for these items and more in select locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. Did you join us at the inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side? Sith, stormtroopers and even a few rebels showed up to run in the race weekend at Walt Disney World Resort. Runners who jumped to lightspeed from Disneyland to Walt Disney World participating in both the Star Wars Half Marathon – The Light Side and the Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side earned the runDisney Kessel Run Challenge medal. Star Wars contributor Cole Horton participated in all of the races on both coasts, which earned him a bounty of medals! Runners embraced their dark side style through their outfits on and off the course. Runners also had the opportunity to meet some of their favorite Star Wars characters on and off the course. One of the highlights was Kylo Ren surrounded by First Order stormtroopers inspecting runners during the half marathon! Captain Phasma, Darth Vader and Boba Fett all made appearances before and after each race giving runners a unique opportunity to meet some of their favorite villains.
