  1. Coach Jon Gruden just wrapped up the seventh season of his QB Camp series, a signature element of ESPN’s annual pre-NFL Draft coverage. During every episode, he spends time with each prospect in the film room and on the field. It is no surprise that this is the third consecutive year Coach Gruden returned to host it at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. Coach Gruden isn’t new to the ESPN Complex. In fact, he held the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ training camp here in 2002, when the then-head coach led the team to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII. We recently caught up with Gruden to talk about his experience here and the importance of youth football. Take a look: Year after year, millions tune in to follow along as top ranked college athletes continue their pursuit to make it to the next level. And there’s no better place to chase those dreams than at Walt Disney World Resort and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Here are some more moments we captured during Gruden’s QB Camp. Be sure to tune into the NFL Draft tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. View the full article

  7. As many of you know, there’s an incredible lineup of new attractions and experiences coming to all four Walt Disney World theme parks this summer. And among our latest updates, we also looked further into the future and shared new details on how Pandora – The World of AVATAR will come to life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2017. Imagineer Joe Rohde and Lightstorm Entertainment film producer Jon Landau shared a quick hint at what to expect in the new 12-acre land inspired by James Cameron’s film “AVATAR” during a special presentation at the Walt Disney World Resort. They showed how the land will take on new life at night with bioluminescent flora and special nighttime immersive programming that’ll add a magical touch. And how you’ll be transported to the world of Pandora – alive with amazing creatures and “glowing” ground beneath your feet. You’ll also notice realistic details during your adventures, including special Na’vi artifacts seen throughout the land. “We want the world of Pandora to be believable,” Jon said. “When visitors come to Pandora they’ll experience and they’ll believe — and they’ll look at the world a little bit differently.” Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more details on Pandora – The World of AVATAR, including the spectacular “floating mountains” and thrilling attractions coming to the land: AVATAR Flight of Passage and the Na’vi River Journey. 12. Whether you choose to explore the legendary Loch Ness, ancient castles and battlefields, some of the world’s most famous Scotch whisky distilleries, or the rugged Scottish highlands, your family is sure to enjoy Port Adventures in Invergordon, Scotland. Here are a few of my recommendations to have a unique Scottish experience… Loch Ness Insider’s Guide and Cruise – The mystery of what’s beneath the surface of Loch Ness draws visitors from all over the world. On this adventure, you’ll discover the legend of the Loch Ness Monster at Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition before venturing out on the lake aboard a sonar-equipped research vessel. This one-of-a-kind excursion dives into the history and folklore of the elusive creature and details research projects undertaken on the lake. Even if the fabled monster, “Nessie,” fails to appear on your excursion, the quest to learn about this giant sea creature is sure to fascinate the entire family. Another excursion, Monster Cake Decorating by Loch Ness, is a fun-filled, hands-on way to bring the legend to life for children during their Loch Ness Centre experience. Wild West Highlands and Romantic Eilean Donan Castle – Dozens of castles and ruins are within an easy drive of Invergordon. The highlight of this tour is the breathtakingly beautiful Eilean Donan Castle, featured in films and postcards, where you’ll discover fascinating history at this 13th-century ancient landmark. Your journey also takes you to the Urquhart Castle ruins on the banks of the Loch Ness, through the impressive Victorian spa town of Strathpeffer and across stunning loch landscape and the wilderness of the Highlands – home to some of Scotland’s most awe-inspiring scenery. Glenmorangie Whisky and Royal Dornoch – On this adventure just for adults, you’ll be whisked away to historic towns and get a flavor of Scottish history and culture. First stop is to the ancient Royal Burgh of Tain, an attractive town featuring whisky-colored, sandstone buildings where you’ll visit the Glenmorangie Distillery, which produces one of Scotland’s best-loved malt whiskies. After a “cheers” to your time in Scotland with a taste of the precious golden elixir, the day continues at the enchanting Royal Dornoch, a 12th-century town with an exceptionally sunny climate, surrounded by sand dunes and home to miles of beaches and a championship golf course. Up next, I’ll take you to Le Havre, France, the gateway to Paris and a port of call on our British Isles cruises as we journey through the English Channel. Remember, when the ship’s in port, venture ashore! View the full article
  13. Today, we’re taking this blog where it’s never gone before… to SPAAAAAACE!!! Mission: Space Mission: Space, that is! You’ll know the Mission: Space Cargo Bay if you’ve ever ridden this Future World attraction — it’s the gift shop you pass through when exiting the ride. Mission: Space Cargo Bay Mission: Space Cargo Bay The store carries some typical Disney items (no shortage of Star Wars stuff here!), along with some fun space-themed merchandise more unique to the spot. “Just Need Some Space” T-shirt Astronaut Mickey You can also find some regular grab-and-go fare — not a ton, but a few pre-packaged items like assorted bags of chips, candy bars, and the Snacks with Character allergy-friendly treats. But if you search around a bit, you can also find some snacks that remind me of some of my first trips to Epcot in the 80s (EPCOT back then, of course). I don’t remember which ride featured the astronaut snacks back then (Horizons?) — and maybe I’m just making the whole thing up — but I could swear I had freeze-dried ice cream at EPCOT back in the day. Anyone remember details? Anyway, they’re still here (or maybe they’ve returned), and it’s time to check out the Astronaut snacks! As the bag reads, these snacks are “Freeze-Dried Ready to Eat Space Food.”™ Astronaut Snacks display Varieties available for $5.95 each include primarily ice cream (Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Ice Cream with Chocolate Chips, and Neapolitan), ice cream sandwiches (traditional Vanilla or Cookies and Cream), and one fruit option: strawberries. Neapolitan Ice Cream package Package of Strawberries I grabbed an Ice Cream Sandwich. Ice Cream Sandwich I brought mine home to give it a try. (Oh, and if you take yours outside of the park as well, be careful, because it’s hard to remember this snack is even in your bag — it’s SO lightweight!) This was a safe choice seeing as the snacks have a shelf life of “many years” to remain edible for the astronauts according to the packaging, which also informs about the freeze-drying process and why it’s necessary for space missions. Back of Ice Cream Sandwich Packaging More info on the Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Sandwich Packaging Within the foil wrapping, the sandwich is further wrapped inside with a basic paper — just like the ice cream sandwiches I had as a kid (these days, I typically only eat Mickey-shaped ones ). Ice Cream Sandwich inside packaging Ice Cream Sandwich Upon picking up the sandwich after unwrapping, I found that one of the chocolate cookies making up the sandwich was still connected to the ice cream, but the other had fallen apart and away from it. Ice Cream Sandwich Chocolate Cookie Sandwich piece This worked perfectly well for our purposes, because it was easy to get this picture showing you what the ice cream inside looks like. Vanilla Ice Cream I did a quick reassembly and it was time for the first bite! Aaaand, here’s what happened after I picked it up and made my first attempt at eating it… like, immediately and all at once :). After the first bite Of course, that wasn’t entirely unexpected, since the package indicates that the item is entirely dry during transport, then “as you eat the sandwich, your mouth rehydrates the ice cream.” Ice Cream waiting to be “rehydrated” Now, the chocolate cookies themselves remained very crunchy and crispy; they didn’t soften at all. The vanilla ice cream did soften a teeny bit; but while it didn’t remain crunchy, it didn’t turn creamy, either (my husband thought it was like eating an “ice cream cracker”). But the classic chocolate and vanilla flavors were completely intact, and once you get past the initial bite and adjust to the textures (and they do take some adjusting), the flavors live up to the package claim; it “tastes just like the original,” only not cold — another adjustment. Now, don’t get me wrong; for decadent ice cream treats in Epcot… well, let’s just say I’m glad that L’artisan des Glaces is still an option ;). But a little taste test like this is obviously more about the learning experience, offering a neat opportunity to try something similar to what astronauts eat during missions, allowing for a teeeeeny tiny glimpse of how their needs are met while VERY far from home. What a really fun and cool (though not cold ) find for your little budding scientist or space fan! So, as you can see, your choices at Epcot aren’t limited to food from other corners of the globe with a trip around World Showcase… thanks to the Astronaut Snacks at Mission: Space Cargo Bay in Future World, your Epcot culinary adventures can even take you beyond . 20. Every Walt Disney World Resort guest goes home with stories about a favorite adventure, moment or experience. Longtime visitors Lee and Ted from Pennsylvania are no exception. Their very favorite moments have been spent on Disney’s animal program tours interacting with keepers and the animals in their care, and learning about conservation projects around the world. After Ted and Lee took part in their first tour, the former Sunrise Safari in 2012 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, the couple was hooked! Since that time, they have participated in all of the animal program experiences at Walt Disney World Resort, including Backstage Tales at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Wanyama Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Epcot Seas Adventures – Aqua Tour. So, when they heard about the new Sense of Africa program, they signed up to be the very first guests! They even cut the red ribbon to officially launch the program. Sense of Africa is a three-and-a-half-hour-long experience, consisting of both a breakfast and tour where guests experience dining with a unique twist at Boma – Flavors of Africa restaurant and participate in up-close, backstage animal encounters, all of which are inspired by the sensory experience the resort offers. “It was majestic! The height of the giraffe – when you really grasp that we are only as tall as their knees,” Ted said. “And the okapi was so gentle and smooth, and of course the red river hogs were so … ” “Funny!” Lee said. The couple said that although they have enjoyed all the animal tours – some multiple times – this one is a true feast for the senses. “[The programs] are each so unique; it’s hard to say [which is my favorite],” Lee said. “But I’m a hands-on person, so this is very special. You see the animals out on the safari, but you still don’t appreciate how big [they are] – or with the okapi – how soft …” The authenticity and variety of the buffet breakfast at Boma – Flavors of Africa was another highlight for the couple. “It’s very nice to have so many different little things to sample,” Ted said. Although Lee and Ted look forward to experiencing everything the parks have to offer, they know what their favorite memories will include. “As far as I’m concerned,” Ted said, “… this is the highlight of our trip.” We hope you’ll enjoy learning about and experiencing some (or, like Lee and Ted – ALL) of the many animal program tours around Walt Disney World Resort: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Sense of Africa Dine with Animal Specialist Wanyama Safari Starlight Safari Disney’s Animal Kingdom Wild Africa Trek Backstage Tales Epcot Behind the Seeds Epcot Seas Adventures – Aqua Tour Epcot Seas Adventures – Dolphins in Depth Epcot Seas Adventures – DiveQuest Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground Pony rides, horseback trail rides and wagon rides Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside Horse-drawn carriage rides View the full article
  21. With the baseball season recently starting, there is no better place to get into the spirit of the season than Casey’s Corner in the Magic Kingdom! Learn About: Casey’s Corner Magic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants Casey’s Corner is one of our favorite stops for a quick meal or a snack anytime of the day. And while we love their specialty hotdogs, I’ve always been a huge fan of their Corn Dog Nuggets as well. And I know there are many of you who are fans. On a recent visit, we noticed a switch-up on the menu that we couldn’t wait to share. Corn Dog Nugget Meal at Casey’s Corner There’s plenty of good news to share here. Both the Chili-Cheese Hot Dog and the Barbecue Slaw Dog are still available. And now, they come in two versions — regular, or foot long! Of course, you can also still get the Hot Dog Meal, which comes with a plain dog that you can top anyway you’d like from Casey’s Plastic Cheese-less fixings bar. (Yep. It’s still not back. Sigh.) But what really caught my eye was the new Corn Dog Nugget Meal. Sweet. Updated Casey’s Corner Menu Previously, the fan favorite snack was only offered as a side item. Now these little nuggets are officially a meal option! Corn Dog Nugget Meal The Corn Dog Nugget Meal, like the other meals, comes with an option of Apple Slices or French Fries. When it comes to hot dogs, french fries for me are the go-to! I always love the fries at Casey’s. Recently they have become thinner, but they are always fresh and hot. Casey’s Corner French Fries In the meal you get 10 Corn Dog Nuggets, and they are exactly the same as they’ve always been. Corn Dog Nuggets! Although they aren’t served as a side anymore, they’re delivered to you in paper boats, which still makes them easy to eat as you stroll. Corn Dog Nugget Cross-Section Casey’s Corn Dog Nuggets have always been a favorite of mine. And I usually ordered a side of fries to make a meal from them. So for me, this is a great fit! Besides, you can never beat this view. Corn Dog Nuggets and the Castle! But there is a slight downside to this consolidation: now that the corn dog nuggets are served as a meal, french fries are no longer offered as a stand-alone side on the menu. Though, if you really want them, I’ll bet you can get them as an off-the-menu item. Just ask. And FYI — it appears that the Polish Sausage Meal has been replaced by the Corn Dog Nuggets as an entree option. But the register area does sport this sign: Polish Sausage Meal Still Available For Now Unfortunately, from what the Cast Members told me, the Polish Sausage is being phased out. So lovers of the specialty entree may want to make their way over to Casey’s before they are gone for good! I guess this is a bit of a bummer for those who enjoyed the side option of corn dog nuggets and liked the grab-and-go cup. But as somebody who used to order a side of corn dog nuggets and then a side of french fries, the corn dog nugget meal just makes sense. The paper boats still make them easy enough to grab and sit outside (when you can find a seat) or sit down to watch the parade. Now let’s hear from you! What is your favorite menu item at Casey’s Corner? Tell us in comments below! Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! Find great deals at DFBStore.com!
