Bryce Dallas Howard celebrated the opening of her newest film, “Pete’s Dragon,” with a visit to Disneyland park where she caught up with Mickey Mouse at Sleeping Beauty Castle. In this video, she talks about what it’s like to be a part of the Disney family and the thrill of riding a dragon! A reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, “Pete’s Dragon” is the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliot, who just so happens to be a dragon. The film opens nationwide today. View the full article

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service. While many are commemorating this milestone by flocking to our national parks during the summertime, these natural playgrounds are equally bewitching during the winter months. Imagine exploring a snow-covered Yellowstone National Park, following animal footprints during a snowshoe expedition, setting off on a sleigh ride and toasting marshmallows over a warm fire. You can do all this, and more, on the Adventures by Disney Winter in Wyoming Long Weekend vacation. I can’t imagine anything more picturesque than setting off on a dog sled tour through the majestic Wyoming scenery. Freshly fallen snow creates an almost dreamlike backdrop for visiting West Thumb Geyser Basin, watching Old Faithful erupt or marveling at frozen waterfalls. Explore the region with a naturalist as you look for bison, elk, otters, bald eagles and more. To warm up on a chilly winter night you’ll also enjoy dinner inside a teepee. New trip dates were recently added for early 2017, departing on Jan. 14 and Feb. 12. Both dates fall during holiday weekends, making this 4-night adventure the perfect long weekend getaway for your family. Make it your New Years resolution to get in touch with nature on the Adventures by Disney Winter in Wyoming vacation! View the full article

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returns to Walt Disney World Resort for 29 nights of spook-tastic fun starting September 2. I love this Halloween-themed event that’s filled with eerie entertainment, Disney Characters, and, of course, delightful treats! I recently visited Magic Kingdom Park where I attempted to get a sneak preview of the party. Instead, I received a surprise visit from the Disney Delivery Guy. Merchandise created for this event will be released during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and will be available while supplies last. These items will not be available via the Shop Disney Parks app or the Disney Parks online store. In addition to items shown in the video, we will have a limited edition retail MagicBand with an edition size of 3,000. It will be released at Emporium and Box Office Gifts on Main Street, U.S.A. The limited release and limited edition pins will be released in Big Top Souvenirs in the Storybook Circus area of New Fantasyland. The pin assortment includes individual pins, a limited edition box set, a limited edition framed pin set, a limited release mystery pin set, and a limited release pin created especially for Annual Passholders. Guests may also find event apparel and holiday ornaments in this location. Apparel may also be found in Mickey’s Star Trader in Tomorrowland, or at Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A. If you’d like to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, please visit DisneyWorld.com for ticket information. View the full article

Jambo! Welcome back to Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, one of our favorite places for wild theme park snacks! Learn About: Harambe Market Animal Kingdom Disney World Restaurants Harambe Market is truly an experience. Much like the rest of Animal Kingdom, the theming is spectacular, and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Storybook, Africa! This is a fairly new restaurant – you can check out our full review from last year’s opening here – and we love the set up. As you can see from the entrance sign, the snacks here are a little different than what you’d find in the other three theme parks, and ordering is different, too. Each type of snack has a different window to order from: Chef Mwanga’s Ribs Shop, Kitamu Grill, Famous Sausages, and Wanjohi Refreshment (but we’re told you can order any item from any window except Wanjohi Refreshments, which only serves drinks). Harambe Market Entrance Each station has a headliner item, but today, we’re going to talk about some specific drinks and snacks – for most of you, two old friends and two new ones! Eats Let’s start with our old friends, Bibo Soda and Sparberry Soda, who you may remember from Epcot’s Club Cool! They’re two of many options at the Wanjohi Refreshment window. Beverage Menu at Wanjohi Refreshment Bibo is a sweet, sweet, sweet South African soda! Based on the bright green coloring, it’s no surprise that it’s a melon and kiwi flavor, but despite the “soda” name, it isn’t carbonated. Bibo! To me, Bibo is way too sweet to finish a full-size drink, so I’d keep sampling it at Club Cool. But it is neat to have an African drink option in Animal Kingdom! Sparberry Soda is a popular raspberry-infused cream soda drink from Zimbabwe that’s also available at Club Cool. Really, I think the raspberry flavor is much more noticeable than the cream soda! Sparberry Soda! The Sparberry has a manageable sweetness compared to Bibo. The fruity flavor is refreshing, and I wouldn’t mind having a whole cup! On to some less familiar choices! It’s the prefect season to enjoy a Frozen Flamingo! It’s a non-alcoholic frozen drink jam-packed with strawberry and passion fruit flavor. Frozen Flamingo beverage It doesn’t look like much in the white plastic cup, but it’s super flavorful and refreshing on a hot summer day. If you want to jazz it up a little, you can buy it in a Ocarina Musical Sipper Cup for $12.99! Musical Tumbler Are you hungry yet? Us, too. Let’s check out a snack at Kitamu Grill! Menu at all three food windows The Grilled Vegetable Stack is a fresh, unique Disney parks snack. Animal Kingdom always has a smorgasbord of vegetarian options, and we’re happy to add this one to the list! Ooh, pretty colors! You get all of the ingredients in a little paper boat, but we asked for a plate to dump it onto so that you can see all the components of the “stack.” You’ll get a large slice of mushroom, tofu, yellow zucchini, green zucchini, roasted red peppers, onion and lots of arugula on top! All of the vegetables have a delicious smoky flavor, and the tofu is topped with a yummy pesto! You’re also served two sides. First, a Green Papaya Slaw (yum!), which was super fresh and well seasoned. Green Papaya Slaw And a Black-Eyed Pea, Corn and Tomato Salad – also very fresh, but if you’re cilantro averse, maybe ask for a second helping of the slaw instead… Black-Eyed Pea, Corn and Tomato Salad I think this is a great vegetarian option! It’s plenty of food, which is always a toss-up when ordering vegetarian dishes, and it’s light enough to enjoy on a hot day at Animal Kingdom. It was great to see so many flavors incorporated in a dish made of seasonal veggies. Sometimes, you just need something other than french fries! Overall I enjoyed everything – not only the taste, but it was fun to try some out-of-the-ordinary treats! Animal Kingdom is already known for its top-notch theming, and having some African drinks and flavors really makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Kerry Butler is the latest Broadway star to entertain Disney cruisers as part of our Stars Set Sail live concert series presented by Disney Theatrical Productions. Butler has performed in numerous Broadway productions, including the role of Belle in “Beauty and the Beast.” She is also known for her album “Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust,” which features some of her favorite songs from Disney films. It was no surprise when she sang several of those songs for Disney cruisers, such as “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “Colors of the Wind,” and “Minnie’s Yoo Hoo.” Her show in the Walt Disney Theatre concluded with an electrifying performance of “Let it Go.” Stay tuned for a look at more Broadway stars sailing the seas with us this summer, and check out those we’ve already seen: Kissy Simmons on the Disney Wonder Kevin Massey and Kara Lindsay on the Disney Magic Alton Fitzgerald White on the Disney Magic Mandy Gonzalez on the Disney Magic Susan Egan on the Disney Magic View the full article

Welcome back to Hollywood Boulevard! Disney’s Hollywood Studios has two new cocktails for us to try at Fairfax Fare! Learn About: Fairfax Fare Disney's Hollywood Studios Disney World Restaurants On your way to two of the park’s blockbusters, Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, you’ll pass Fairfax Fare. The walk-up window is one of several restaurants in Sunset Ranch Market on Hollywood Boulevard. Fairfax is an airy counter-service restaurant with a laid-back California vibe and some really good barbeque! The meals are hearty, and there’s plenty of picnic table seating shared with the nearby restaurants making it the perfect place to wait for your next Fastpass+ window! Today, however, we’re not focused on the smoky chicken and ribs, but on two new yummy drinks to cool off with this summer! Fairfax Fare Let’s grab drinks! Eats The new drinks are the Captain Morgan Fruit Punch Cocktail and Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka Lemonade. They even sound refreshing! Both are poured from the tap, which makes them a little less expensive than your usual park cocktail at $7.75. Fairfax Fare cocktails on tap The Captain Morgan Fruit Punch Cocktail’s name says it all! It’s a mix of Captain Morgan spiced rum and tangy fruit punch. It was refreshing like a fruit punch, but the more you drink, the more the spiciness of the rum comes through! I was surprised at how strong this one was, but I would still recommend it – but ya gotta like rum. Captain Morgan Fruit Punch Cocktail Similarly, the Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka Lemonade packed a punch for a theme park cocktail! Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka Lemonade The raspberry flavor in this one was much more faint than I expected, but I still enjoyed it. I would say the vodka made this one lighter overall and more refreshing than the fruit punch cocktail even though it wasn’t as fruity. Overall I think the fresh flavors are great summer options, and I’d recommend either one! It’s an easy stop to make on your way to or from the park’s big rides and less expensive than most cocktails; so why not try one for yourself on your next visit?! As if that weren’t reason enough to visit Sunshine Seasons, you can also find some ah-mazing treats like our favorites the warm peanut butter brownie and the strawberry shortcake. Warm Peanut Butter Brownie at Sunshine Seasons But today we found a new addition to the dessert section — this Mickey Oreo Cheesecake! Mickey Oreo Cheesecake It might not be obvious at first glance, but the bottom layer is a crust of finely crushed oreos, the middle is a creamy cheesecake with Oreo pieces blended throughout ,and the top is your average red icing! (Cheesecake with frosting?! Sign me up!) Mickey’s buttons are white chocolate and his ears are mini Oreos. Mickey Oreo Cheesecake cross-section And it was yummy! It’s served cold, and the cheesecake was creamy and rich. It’s a smaller dessert, but the super-sweetness of this one makes it share-worthy in case your teeth start hurting. ;-D This little guy is priced at $4.29 and is snack credit eligible. Experiencing "Pete's Dragon" is like seeing something thought to be extinct, a creation every bit as magical and mythical as the flying, fire-breathing beast it’s named after. Disneyland Resort is planning to break ground on our Eastern Gateway, a new arrival point that will provide guests even more choices for access and parking when it opens in late 2018. This project on the east side of the Disneyland Resort will include a new parking structure with 6,800 spaces, a new transportation facility and an elevated pedestrian bridge. The largest infrastructure project in the Anaheim Resort Area in the last 20 years, the Eastern Gateway will make it even easier to get to the Happiest Place on Earth by providing an east-side entry point to the Anaheim Resort Area. The new transportation facility will be the arrival point for buses, taxis, bicycles and various shuttles that currently use the existing transportation facility located on the west side of Harbor Boulevard. The new pedestrian pathway and elevated bridge over Harbor Blvd. will directly link guests arriving at the parking structure and eastern transportation facility with the main entrance plaza. Guests are discovering the whimsy of AbracadaBar, the newest Walt Disney World watering hole located on Disney’s BoardWalk between Trattoria al Forno and the just-opened Flying Fish restaurant. We told you the story of the lounge in Jennifer Fickley-Baker’s recent post, and the beverage menu follows through with some “Curious Cocktails,” “Worldly Wines” and “Baffling Beers.” (The cozy space offers chickpea popcorn for noshing, but no food.) Favorites include The Conjurita, a margarita with tequila, Cointreau, simple syrup and lime juice – and a little magic trick comes with the presentation. The Coney Negroni replaces the classic gin in the drink with bourbon. And for a kick, Pepper’s Ghost combines pineapple vodka and habanero lime. Non-alcoholic beverages include the Seashore Sweet, a nod to the former candy store that used to be in this location, made with lemonade and blue cotton candy. Wines are a combination and Old and New World, all offered by the glass including Veuve Clicquot Champagne. And you’ll find local beers on the list, such as Orlando Brewing Blonde Ale and Cigar City Tampa-Style Lager. Plenty to whet your appetite for dinner at either adjacent restaurant. Here’s the cocktail menu to help you plan ahead: View the full article

This week’s Disney Doodle is one of our favorites so far. In it, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what the royal sisters, Anna and Elsa, and their pal Olaf, would do first if they visited the Walt Disney World Resort. The answer? Head to the Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course! In case you aren’t familiar, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf is located adjacent to Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and offers two different courses – a Summer course and a Winter course. That’s perfect for Elsa’s icy tendencies and Olaf’s dream of enjoying summer! View the full article
