The holidays are filled with festive fun at Walt Disney World Resort, but the merriest event of all is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park. The Disney Parks Moms Panelists share their advice for making the most of this festive holiday event. Make sure to pick up an event guide map upon entry. Jackie P. says this map will be your guide to all of the activities, show times and snack locations throughout the evening. Each snack location provides complimentary treats and festive beverages, including new holiday favorites this year. Jackie P. also shares her favorite, not to be missed events during the party including “Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration” on Castle Stage and the a cappella group “VoicePlay” in Tomorrowland. Your favorite Disney friends will also be dressed in their holiday best and ready to dance at The Diamond Horseshoe. Andrea H. suggests standing at Walt Disney World Railroad – Mainstreet, U.S.A. Station for the best view of “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas Time Parade” and “Holiday Wishes” firework spectacular. Make sure to stay till the very end of the parade to see the big man himself, Santa Claus. Andrea H. also suggests coming to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party wearing your holiday best to get your picture taken in the “snow” on Mainstreet, U.S.A. (ugly sweater photo anyone?). Located in the former location for the jewelry store, Something Silver, this new location does not feature a Cupcake ATM like its east coast counterpart in Disney Springs. It’ll be a trifecta of global masterpieces: combining visual, culinary and performing arts for six colorful weekends. From the art of Disney historical artist Mary Blair and Herb Ryman art of Epcot to current Disney artists Joe Kaminski and Costa Alavezos, you’ll not only be surrounded by incredible visions, you’ll watch the creative process live. In the inaugural year of the Epcot International Festival of the Arts, a collaboration with Disney Theatrical will bring an exciting new showcase of favorite music and Broadway talent to the America Gardens Theatre stage. Are you ready to Let the Good Times Roll? Then join us at the newly reopened Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory! Learn About: Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory Disney World Restaurants This Counter Service option for Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter closed down for a refurbishment in July. Though not much was known regarding plans for the space, it was assumed — given the four-month closure — that some major changes could be in store. So we were excited to check things out when it opened again to guests on Saturday morning. Excited… and very curious. After all, Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory is known for having one of the most interesting atmospheres of all the Disney Resort food courts. As the name implies, it was themed as a warehouse storing larger-than-life parade props for Mardi Gras, fitting in well at the Resort that pays homage to New Orleans. (If you’d like a little refresher, you can take a tour of what the space looked like here.) Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory Sign Louisiana cuisine also influenced the menu with unique choices like a selection of Po’ Boys and Gumbo among more standard Counter Service offerings. And no visit to Sassagoula is ever complete without those famous Beignets! (Spoiler Alert: they’re still here! ) So let’s check out the updated scene — and FOOD! — at Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory! Atmosphere Turns out, what we assumed is true. Some major changes have taken place at Sassagoula. What was once home to all sorts of huge, majestic, over-the-top, and, yes, sometimes even a little creepy Mardi Gras parade float props now looks like… Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory interior THIS. Obviously, the warehouse theme is still intact, with the exposed beams and strips of signature French Quarter brick (and the empty ceiling fixtures do help the space seem larger and quite bright). But if those floats really are gone for good, I’m super sad. Yeah, they were creepy; but they added so much atmosphere! Ceiling Interior Interior Ah well. We’ll see if Disney brings them back or not. Various industrial touches put further emphasis on the factory over the floatworks. Lighting fixture “Float Crew Only” You can still spy, though, some of the old props lining parts of the wall near the ceiling, but they are used sparingly. Props Near the Ceiling Props Near the Ceiling Longtime French Quarter guests will recognize items such as the enormous strings of Mardi Gras beads, the chess game pieces and playing cards, and the huge crown tucked near the high center. Props Surrounding the Seating Area Of course, there is a little more to it than that. A look at the walls reveals some New Orleans-themed decor, drawings, and photographs. Even the seating has changed from the former mismatched chairs to all-silver. Table and chairs Table and chairs Ledge Table and Stools There is one very fun feature that many folks might be excited to see: the Coke Freestyle machines that were available at the temporary food court while the restaurant was being refurbished are now part of the regular options at the redecorated beverage bay. (I have to wonder if we’ll see more of these when Gasparilla Island Grill reopens from its current refurbishment next month?) I gotta say, I’m surprised that I kinda miss that scary ol’ clown and certain decor items where you just couldn’t miss the obvious, over-the-top Mardi Gras theme. But let’s remember that sometimes Disney adds more touches after they’ve re-opened a space. The ceiling looks pretty stark right now, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some decor elements going back up there. Fingers crossed. Now, the New Orleans vibe was always present in two aspects here: the theme AND the food. So, let’s check that out, too! Eats Fortunately there is a LOT more to say about the updated menu at Sassagoula! Since we hit up two meal times — breakfast and lunch — we’ll take this in parts. Breakfast The early bird catches some new breakfast items at Sassagoula! Cast Members Preparing Breakfast Okay, you don’t even have to be all that early, since breakfast doesn’t end until 11 am. And that’s good news if you’d like to try some of the new additions tucked in amidst some Counter Service breakfast standards. Breakfast Menu Kids’ Breakfast Menu These include items like the Crispy-Fried Chicken on a Biscuit with maple-bacon jam and the Jumbo Sweet Potato Belgian Waffle topped with toasted pecans, whipped cream and apple-cranberry compote. Breakfast Menu Sweet Potato Belgian Waffle ©Disney Kids’ Breakfast Menu The Cajun Grit Bowl with Shrimp can be spotted on the menu just under the Freshly-made Custom Omelets. Breakfast Menu More sweet starts to the day include the Molasses-Cream Cheese Cinnamon Roll and House-made Coffee Cake (and, as you can see, it’s still totally your call if you’d like some Beignets for breakfast… or at any other time of day!). Breakfast Menu The new Breakfast Po’ Boy is made with scrambled eggs, Andouille sausage, and sautéed peppers and onions. And the Pain Perdu is a French Toast made with a baguette and warm fruit topping. Breakfast Menu Pain Perdu ©Disney No matter the time of day, grab-and-go options still exist, though on our visit it was pretty much the bare minimum with chips, cereals, and a few pre-packaged salads. Grab-and-Go Grab-and-Go Oh, and the only bottled beverage was water, so if you’re in the mood for a soft drink, it’s got to come from the Freestyle machines in the beverage bay. That’s also where you’ll find the usual coffee, hot cocoa, and iced teas, too. Beverage Bay Beverage Bay I couldn’t resist starting my visit with one of the new items on the breakfast menu: the Cajun Grit Bowl with Shrimp. Cajun Grit Bowl with Shrimp This large bowl of grits mixed with cream sauce is also filled with shrimp, onions, peppers, and tasso ham, then topped with two soft-poached eggs. Cajun Grit Bowl with Shrimp I was SUPER impressed with the sheer amount of shrimp and ham (the latter of which was especially flavorful diced into small but thick cuts). Cajun Grit Bowl with Shrimp Considering the amount of meat and the thick sauce, this is one seriously filling dish. And because it’s so heavy, I really think this could be shared between two people. It tasted fantastic, and is one of the best quick-service breakfast items I’ve had in some time. My second savory choice was the new Crispy Fried Chicken on a Biscuit with Maple-Bacon Jam. Crispy Fried Chicken on a Biscuit Fried Chicken Mine is obviously plated, but you can receive it wrapped in paper as well for a grab-and-go-type option (and the texture of the biscuit, which was a little less soft and more grainy than a typical biscuit would also make it easier to handle as you go). Crispy Fried Chicken on a Biscuit OK, so you might be wondering something at this point. “Hey AJ,” you’re asking, “we saw the menu picture of this sammie earlier in the post and it looks like they forgot your Maple-Bacon Jam!!” Agreed, dear reader. It does look like they forgot it…or that I requested the sandwich sans jam. But neither of those is true! Here, my friends, is the maple-bacon jam on my sandwich… Maple-Bacon Jam on Biscuit Wha?!? Hoping this is opening day jitters for the cast members! Ha ha!!! In any case, they were more than happy to give me more on the side when I asked. And I am really glad because this stuff is seriously good! Maple-Bacon Jam The sweet-salty combo elevated this dish from your regular chicken (which tasted great, but wasn’t as crispy as I expected, given the name) to a step above a typical breakfast sandwich. I really enjoyed this one as well. Crispy Fried Chicken on a Biscuit with Maple-Bacon Jam For something sweet, I chose two items, starting with the House-made Coffee Cake. I selected cheese, while the other options are berry or peach. House-made Cheese Coffee Cake That little wrapper-box-thingy is pretty much a necessity with this one, due to the abundance of crumb topping which falls off fairly easily. Crumb Topping The mess, though, is well worth it. The whole cheese danish/coffee cake hybrid gives you the best of both worlds, and you could tell it was very freshly made, to boot. House-made Cheese Coffee Cake My final breakfast treat was the Molasses Cream Cheese Cinnamon Roll, which is smaller than most regular cinnamon rolls you’ll find around Disney World. Molasses Cream Cheese Cinnamon Roll It also differs in that there wasn’t a ton of cinnamon in between the layers, making the molasses the truly prominent flavor. Inside the Molasses Cream Cheese Cinnamon Roll As per usual, I could’ve happily done with more of the icing ;), which was delicious and gave this the end result of tasting like a cinnamon roll without being uber-sweet. Closeup on Icing I really enjoyed every breakfast item I tried. But, alas, when the clock strikes 11:00 am, you know what that means… Lunch Now, who’s ready for lunch ? Once again, you’ll see plenty of returning choices like the Create-Your-Own Pasta and Pizza on the menu. Lunch Menu We were also super happy to see the Po’Boys and terrific Gumbo listed along with the new Sassagoula Power Salad and French Quarter House Salad. Lunch Menu Catfish Po’Boy Chicken Gumbo Close-Up Kids’ Lunch Menu and Picture of Power Salad Among standard Burgers are also a couple of new specialties: the Cajun King Burger and the Crawfish Mac & Cheese Burger. Lunch Menu Crawfish Mac and Cheese Burger ©Disney Kids’ Lunch Menu I opted for the Cajun King Burger with the Bean Salad and Macaroni Salad as my side choices (other options include French fries, potato chips, and coleslaw). Cajun King Burger and sides Bean Salad Macaroni Salad The Cajun King is your standard Counter Service burger patty topped with cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, andouille sausage and a Creole mustard aioli (this is mayo-based and carries some great garlic flavor). Cajun King Burger Cajun King Burger Aside from the toppings, the brioche bun in particular stepped this one up a notch. Cajun King Burger The flavors came together great, but I couldn’t really taste the sausage, which got lost among the other toppings. Cajun King Burger A bit unfortunate, since when I tried it on its own it tasted great. All in all, though, a fun addition. Next up we’re going from a twist on Cajun to a classic: Jambalaya! Jambalaya It’s served with a slice of cornbread. Cornbread This classic Cajun dish features diced pieces of chicken and andouille sausage mixed in with peppers, onions and rice, all cooked in a spicy red sauce. Jambalaya I love how they didn’t shy away from the spice here! Similar to the new Grits dish, you get a lot of meat with your portion, but I did think the overall amount of plated Jambalaya was on the small side. I guess they wanted me to save a little room (ha!) for dessert… Bakery and Gelato Menu Tarts in Bakery Case Cookies in Bakery Case Mickey Brownies in Bakery Case Okay, so we — and pretty much anyone who has ever paid a visit to Port Orleans French Quarter — have had their signature dessert a bajillion-and-one-times: the Beignets! Beignets and Dipping Sauces! So this time… we couldn’t resist having them again! We had them in a more recent twist, the Beignet Gelato Sundae. The gelato choices on my visit were vanilla, double chocolate, caramel sea salt and pistachio. Beignet Sundae The Sundaes automatically come topped with raspberry sauce, but you can specify if you’d prefer something different; hence, the caramel you see here. Beignet Sundae It’s every bit as messy and delicious as you’d imagine. I will say, the beignets themselves on this visit were not the best I’ve had — they were very doughy this go ‘round. Beignet I’m chocking it up to opening day; it won’t keep me from ordering them again… and again… and again. And though the Beignets will always top my list of recommendations for Sassagoula treats that should go on your Disney Food Bucket List, I still ordered up a few of the new Dessert Shots, too! You receive three for $6.00, or one for $2.50 if you just crave a small bit of something sweet. Dessert Shots I went for the Chicory Coffee Mocha Mousse, the Strawberry Shortcake, and Apple Crumble. The Chicory Coffee Mocha Mousse is topped with whipped cream. Chicory Coffee Mocha Mousse Dessert Shot The Chicory Coffee Ganache that is an option for the Beignet Dipping Sauces is much more potent than the mousse version. Though you can taste the coffee, it’s not nearly as bitter as the dipping sauce. It comes off with a more subtle mocha flavor. The Strawberry Shortcake is the classic take: layers of shortcake, sliced strawberries, and whipped cream. Strawberry Shortcake Dessert Shot Yum! The Apple Crumble is actually a small bit of Apple Crumble Cake surrounded by whipped cream. Apple Crumble Dessert Shot It was my favorite of the dessert shots, thanks to all the terrific apple flavor in the middle with bits of apple and cinnamon. One more? Sure, why not? Our final item is the House-made Pecan Praline… a new one to add to the Mickey-shaped Foods file! House-made Pecan Praline Oh, wow. The praline had that perfect caramelized brown sugar texture with plenty of pecans mixed in. House-made Pecan Praline It is so good, but also SO sweet. Even though I loved it, those who aren’t SUPER sweet lovers will need to share. With such a popular item as the Beignets, the dessert choices at Sassagoula have not strayed much outside the norm in previous years, so to see them really expand the choices — including a new Mardi Gras King Cake — is a lot of fun. Mardi Gras King Cake Dinner Again, our visit was midday during the breakfast-into-lunch time. But dinner also includes new options such as a Create-Your-Own Signature Rice Bowl which starts with your choice of Pulled Pork, Catfish, or Shrimp. Next add red or black beans atop your final choice: cajun, dirty, or white rice. Create-Your-Own Catfish Bowl ©Disney Also look for the Southern Classic — Meat & Three. Your choices of Prime Rib, Pork Rack, a Roasted Sustainable Fish option, Fried Chicken, and Barbecue Ribs are accompanied by three side items. Choices here include Mache Choux (roasted corn and pepper), collard greens, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, macaroni salad, red beans and rice, and mac and cheese. No matter what you get at dinner, though, be sure you save a little room for dessert. I know I will when I come back for dinner. I still have to try that Warm Chocolate-Caramel Bread Pudding! Overall Welcome back, Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory! For what the new version of this Counter Service choice lacks (in my opinion) in its updated atmosphere, it more than makes up for with the food. In particular, it was especially interesting to see the creativity behind the new breakfast entrees. But, really, every meal time now offers items that make Sassagoula a place that truly has dishes outside the norm (and if you like this place, you’re gonna love its Riverside Resort neighbor, Boatwright’s!). The chefs and cooks at Sassagoula have come to impress, and I think they’re doing the job with some unique and tasty Counter Service options that offer some real value in terms of food-theming and the amount and quality of ingredients used in the meals. Even if you’re not staying at Port Orleans Resort, the French Quarter is fairly easily accessible from Disney Springs by a fun boat ride or bus transportation. This updated dining option could provide just the reason you’re looking for to do a little Resort-visiting and enjoy some good food in the process. The headliners of Pandora, of course, will be the two signature attractions: Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. Today, we’re unveiling a stunning new image from Walt Disney Imagineering that shows just how amazing the Star Wars-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Fla., will look once the sun goes down. As you can see, the land will take on a whole new dimension after dark and feature adventures and surprises around each corner. Click here for a larger version of the image above. If you look close, the image reveals a peek at what you’ll discover in this all-new land located in the southwest corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including one of the signature attractions that lets you take the controls of the Millennium Falcon. We’re also excited to share an update that work is already underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., to bring the stories from a galaxy, far, far away to life in the parks. Earlier today, Disney Parks Blog readers were among the first to learn that Pandora – The World of Avatar is set to open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in summer 2017. Now, we’re sharing a first look at what you can expect to see in the land. Satu’li Canteen will be the main restaurant in Pandora – The World of Avatar and will feature Na’vi art and cultural items. At Windtraders, travelers can find Na’vi cultural items, toys, science kits, and more. And Pongu Pongu (pictured at the top of the story) will be a special drink location with a design that is as eclectic as its Expat owner. Just moments ago at the D23’s Destination D: Amazing Adventures presentation, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek gave a construction update on Pandora – The World of Avatar and shared the exciting news that the new land is set to open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in summer 2017. Bob also shared a look at a recent construction milestone -scaffolding has just been removed from the entry bridge into the new land (near Tiffins restaurant), officially connecting the land with the rest of the park. According to the storyline developed by Walt Disney Imagineering and Lightstorm Entertainment, this bridge was built during a time when a destructive company called the RDA came to Pandora. Now that they’re long gone, nature is breaking down evidence of their presence. This bridge will soon serve as an entry into the base camp of Alpha Centauri Expeditions, the eco-tour group that is preparing Pandora for future explorers and adventure seekers. The story of the bridge is just our first look inside this land, which fulfills the original mission of Disney’s Animal Kingdom of being a park that honors animals and natural environments “real, ancient and imagined.” The entire Pandora – The World of Avatar land is set to open in 2017, and will transport guests to a visually stunning world complete with floating mountains and bioluminescent plants. Here, guests will be able to experience two excursions that will truly push adventure to the next level. First, the family friendly Na’vi River Journey will send guests down a sacred river hidden within a bioluminescent rainforest. Their journey will end in an unforgettable encounter with a Na’vi Shaman, a figure who has a deep connection to the life force of Pandora. And second, the Avatar Flight of Passage excursion will offer the jaw-dropping experience of riding on a Banshee over the world of Pandora. A new MagicBand is coming to the Walt Disney World Resort as part of our continuing push to innovate and personalize our guest’s vacation experience. MagicBand 2 was just unveiled minutes ago by Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek during a D23’s Destination D: Amazing Adventures presentation – and we have a first look at the new technology. As you can see, MagicBand 2 will feature a new design for the band itself. While the design helps make MagicBand 2 more versatile and customizable it’ll still work like the current MagicBand. You will be able to link My Disney Experience to your MagicBand 2, which can serve as a theme park ticket, access to FastPass+ selections, Disney PhotoPass card as well as a room key for Disney Resort guests. PizzeRizzo is now OPEN for business in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Learn About: PizzeRizzo Disney's Hollywood Studios Disney World Restaurants This Counter Service eatery served its last pizza pie as Toy Story Pizza Planet in January of this year. Throughout most of 2016 a HUGE makeover has been taking place, transforming this space that was once filled with visions of Little Green Men and arcade games into an establishment owned-and-operated by none other than Rizzo the Rat of Muppets fame! Located in what is now known as the Muppets Courtyard section of the park, PizzeRizzo is at long last ready to welcome you and yours to the (literal) party! So join us for our very first visit to The Famous Original PizzeRizzo!! Welcome to PizzeRizzo! Atmosphere Over the past several months, we’ve been able to spy plenty of outdoor details of PizzeRizzo as the transformation has taken place. PizzeRizzo The exterior fits right in with its nearby neighbor, the Italian eatery Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, with its abundance of brick and signage custom-made for a cityscape. PizzeRizzo sign (That exposed fire escape reminds me a bit of when this building used to be part of the Streets of America section of the park.) PizzeRizzo sign for Banquet Hall The City’s Top Rated Pizza Aside from the name of the restaurant itself , the plentiful signage on the outside walls and windows leaves little question as to Rizzo’s specialty of the house: PIZZA! PizzeRizzo windows PizzeRizzo windows PizzeRizzo outdoor atmosphere Oven “Fresh” You’ll also spy a few tributes in the area including this one, which pays homage to The Best PIZZA on the PLANET. “The Best Pizza on the Planet” And there are tributes to other Muppets, too. Check out this nod to the Muppets famous heckler duo, Statler and Waldorf, on this water tower advertising Heckler Tomatoes. (Those guys are THE BEST!!!) Heckler’s Tomatoes Water Tower Even with that, though, don’t expect to find Kermit the Frog himself here yelling, “Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s the MUPPET SHOW!” Rather, you’re meant to feel as though you’ve strolled into Rizzo’s family-run business… which has been “Giving YOU The Business Since 1908.” PizzeRizzo Menu posted in window Let’s step inside and you’ll see what I mean… Inside PizzeRizzo Okay, so… maybe the HUGE updated ordering area doesn’t exactly imply “small business” . But it’s the touches you’ll spy all over the restaurant that bring the story to life. The City Rats The City Rats If you’d like to try to earn a spot on the Pizza Eating Contest Wall of Fame, it looks like you’ll be facing some pretty stiff competition from the likes of Big Mean Carl, Animal, Gorgon Heap, and Carla the Big Mean Mom. But don’t lose hope! There’s still one spot left on this plaque! Pizza Eating Contest Wall of Fame And let’s not forget take a look at the very first dollar ever made at PizzeRizzo! “Our First Dollar” Or not. There is even a souvenir window displaying PizzeRizzo mugs, t-shirts, hats, and such. By the way, these are just props — you won’t find any of these items for sale. Souvenir Display Not yet, anyway! Downstairs, the overall decor of the seating area resembles what you’ll find in a classic Italian pizzeria, featuring lots of red, black, and white tile and simple tables and chairs. Upstairs Wall Decor “El Pizza” Record “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” Featuring the Muppets Record Record by The Irish Rodents None of them made me smile more, though, than the 18th Street Station sign that used to be on a Streets of America stairwell made to look like it was leading down into an underground Subway station! Old Streets of America Subway Sign The W and D here are a tribute to Walt Disney. This sign was always one of my favorite touches in the area, so I’m glad it found a new home. PizzeRizzo’s even boasts a V.I.P. Booth! It’s surrounded by Hollywood Brown Derby-style caricatures, and this is where you’ll start to notice more of the Muppets influence, with likenesses of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, the Swedish Chef, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and more surrounding the table. VIP Booth VIP Booth area If you sit here, though, just be prepared to give up your seat in case one of Rizzo’s famous friends arrives! Sam the Eagle Caricature As you look around to select your table, you may notice a sign located just outside another large room. Before you step in, be sure to peek at all the little gags and jokes filling up the nearby message board. Deluxe Supreme Banquet Hall sign You’re stepping right into the room reserved for the wedding reception for Gil and Lill (daughter of Will and Jill, and son of Phil and Bill. Of course.). Banquet Room Table The party scene is set by color-changing lights and a playlist featuring the “Greatest Wedding Hits of All Time” encouraging you to shake your groove thing! Changing Hues on the Wall Changing Hues on the Wall When we stopped in, “Twist and Shout” was the pick. (This differs from the rest of the restaurant where classic Italian restaurant tunes the likes of Dean Martin, Perry Como, etc. can be heard). Once again on the second floor, seating extends outside. Upper Level Outdoor Seating You’ll likely never find Rizzo himself up here, though, what with his fear of heights, and all. Eats Now, before we get into what’s on the menu, here’s a little bit of info to put your mind at ease. You needn’t have one worry about the association of rats with your food here. Employee of the Month As Rizzo himself assured us in Muppets in Space, he’s “never carried the plague, not even once!” Whew! With THAT out of the way, let’s take a look at the menu! Printed Menu We got a glimpse of the menu late last month, so we were already aware that options would be… well, a LOT like they used to be when the spot operated as Pizza Planet . Entree choices include personal-sized Pizzas available in Vegetable, Pepperoni, Meat Lovers, and Cheese and each are served with a side Caesar Salad. Other entree options are a Meatball Sub and an Antipasto Salad. (These menu “boards” absolutely remind me of the A&S Pizza across from my apartment building in New York City!!! I love them! And I saw those menu boards A. LOT. way back then.) Entree Menu Kids’ Meals are also, of course, available. Desserts include a couple of Italian classics: Cannoli and Tiramisu. Kids’ and Desserts Menu Oddly, the most interesting section of the menu is probably the Beverage section, which features a non-alcoholic Peach Bellini guests of all ages can enjoy. Adults can select the Wildberry-Basil Limoncello Lemonade or a selection from the beer and wine options. Beverage Menu Let’s start with our drinks! We just had to try those new signatures. The non-alcoholic Peach Bellini is on the left, and the Wildberry-Basil Limoncello Lemonade is on the right. Peach Bellini and Wildberry-Basil Limoncello Lemonade Again, the Peach Bellini contains no alcohol. I think it’s fun to have a mocktail to enjoy, especially if you’re sitting in the fancy Banquet Room at the wedding reception. Non-alcoholic Peach Bellini Better still, it’s tasty! This peachy drink isn’t overly sweet, making it a good option for anyone to try, no matter what age. Only Mom and Dad, though (or anyone 21-and-over), can try the Wildberry-Basil Limoncello Lemonade. Wildberry-Basil Limoncello Lemonade I love limoncello in just about anything, but here the pucker is tempered with the berry flavors and very slight taste of herb for anyone who isn’t as big a lemonhead as I am . But now we’re on to the main event, which is, if course, pizza! We grabbed a small assortment with the Pepperoni, Vegetable, and a Kids’ Cheese Pizza. Assortment of Pizzas Each of the full entree pizzas is served with a small Caesar Salad. Pepperoni Pizza with Caesar Salad Caesar Side Salad The Vegetable Pizza is topped with mushrooms, peppers, onions, and tomatoes (Heckler’s Brand, presumably ). Vegetable Pizza No matter the toppings, though, you’ve probably already noticed something very familiar about these pies (and you can count the Meat Lovers in with this group, too). Pepperoni Pizza Closeup on Vegetable Pizza They’re pretty much the exact same pizzas as they were when this joint ran as Pizza Planet. Which is to say, it’s typical Disney Counter Service pizza: a plentifully (as in more than its fair share) thick dough-to-topping ratio, resulting in what I like to refer to as a “pizza pillow,” instead of a good, solid, New York-style pizza. Slice of Vegetable Pizza Heck, even the advertisement for the PizzeRizzo’s Los Angeles location describes it as only “New YorkISH!” PizzeRizzo Coupon Advertisement Which, I’ll grant them, is pretty funny. Of course, you’ve long known how I feel about most Counter Service Pizza in Disney World. Honestly, the only difference I could detect from when this place was Toy Story Pizza Planet is that they use a little more Italian Seasoning here befitting the updated theme and giving them, fortunately, a little more flavor. It’s more of the same with the Kids’ Cheese Pizza. Kids’ Cheese Pizza Kids’ Cheese Pizza The difference here, of course (aside from being smaller) is that it comes in a Meal with milk, carrot sticks and GoGo Squeez Applesauce. Kids’Pizza Meal Dasani Water or a Minute Maid Juice Box are the other drink options, while the other side option is a packaged cookie (upon request). Things start to look up with our other entree choice: the Antipasto Salad. Antipasto Salad The bed of Romaine is topped with ham, salami, pepperoni, kalamata olives, chunks of mozzarella, tomatoes, and an Italian Vinaigrette. It impresses — as most Counter Service salads around Disney tend to — with its level of freshness. The cheese in there was especially yummy, and the salami and pepperoni help to make this salad a truly filling option, even for lighter fare. It’s time for dessert! The new options here are Tiramisu and Cannoli. The Tiramisu, in particular, was a much bigger portion that I thought it would be. Tiramisu Generally speaking, I’m not a huge fan of Tiramisu. But this gets a thumbs up from me due to a higher-than-standard ratio of the thick, mildly sweet layer of mascarpone cream to the ladyfingers (which are my least favorite part of a typical tiramisu). The Cannoli, on the other hand, is just about what you’d expect. Cannoli And in the case of Cannoli, that’s a very good thing . It’s tough to beat sweet cream and chocolate chips inside a fried shell! Inside Cannoli That said, I would like to have a brief moment to mourn the loss of the Chocolate Cappuccino Cupcake that was the main dessert option when this place was Pizza Planet. I know I’m not the only one who will miss it. Still, PizzeRizzo brings with it two solid desserts that go perfectly well with the whole old school Italian pizzeria theme. So, there it is, friends! We’ve wrapped up our first visit to PizzeRizzo. Overall Okay, so, when it comes to the food at PizzeRizzo, there isn’t too much in the way of surprises. It’s your regular Counter Service pizza joint, though I have to give credit to the above par beverages along with some kudos for the desserts. Those are worth stopping in for on their own if you’d like to see PizzeRizzo to take in the atmosphere. After all, the atmosphere was the biggest question surrounding this spot’s transformation, especially since Toy Story Pizza Planet — aside from the arcade-game aspect — seemed to fall a little flat in comparison to what it could have been when you consider the movie. And though some guests might prefer a more obvious or even over-the-top theming with regards to the Muppets characters, I really enjoyed the somewhat subtle take where you’re meant to rely on spying the details within a more authentic scene. Today, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club announced its exciting slate of member events for 2017. Throughout the year, D23 will bring screenings of favorite Disney films such as “Tangled” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl” to events on both the Walt Disney Studios lot and at Walt Disney World Resort. The club will hold an event at Walt Disney World Resort, as well as provide fans around the world stories of the theme park through video, photography, and artwork on D23.com. In addition, D23 will return to Walt Disney World Resort during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival for the fan favorite Sip & Stroll, and members on the West Coast will get in on the fun with a new event in conjunction with Disneyland Resort’s culinary festivities. The club will bring back their tours of the Walt Disney Studios lot, which include the Walt Disney Archives and a member-exclusive visit to Walt Disney’s office suite. Also returning in 2017 are advance screenings of new movies from The Walt Disney Studios and even more Member Mixers around the country. D23 announced Mousequerade, D23 Expo’s costume contest, will be returning to the event, taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center July 14–16, 2017—and this time there will be a group category! Plus, artists should break out their sketchpads—and eye patches—as the new D23 Expo Design Challenge is themed to Disney’s pirates, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland park.
