The Main Street Electrical Parade, one of the most popular parades in Disney history, has returned home to Disneyland park with all the lights, sounds, music and fun that have made it a beloved icon. Since its grand opening last summer, the response from our guests to the attractions and entertainment at Shanghai Disney Resort has been nothing short of overwhelming. Today we have some exciting news out of The Walt Disney Company’s Meeting of Shareholders in Denver, Colorado, where our chairman and CEO, Bob Iger, just shared that Shanghai Disneyland is approaching a big attendance milestone. “Almost 8 million people have already visited Shanghai Disneyland,” Iger told shareholders. “They’re telling their friends and families all about it and their rave reviews are driving excitement for that park across all of China. We’re absolutely thrilled with the response and we expect more than 10 million people to visit this park by its first anniversary this June.” As we told you late last year, Shanghai Disneyland is so popular and so successful that we’re already adding to it with a new Toy Story Land, which will open in 2018. Four ABC shows will offer sneak peeks into the new land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As “The View” broadcasts from Disney’s Animal Kingdom this week, several other ABC shows will be joining forces on Thursday, March 9, for a look into the highly-anticipated Pandora – The World of Avatar. The day of sneak peeks kicks off with “Good Morning America,” where viewers are introduced to Pandora – The World of Avatar including a first look at the thrilling attraction, Avatar Flight of Passage. After that, viewers can tune in to “The View,” where James Cameron will take Whoopi Goldberg into the immersive new land, including a look at the Na’vi River Journey. Rounding out the daytime segments, the hosts of “The Chew,” true to their culinary stylings, will introduce viewers to the Lumpia, a unique and delicious snack found on Pandora. You’re gonna hear us saying this a lot over the next several months: there’s a TON of stuff going on in the Disney food world at Animal Kingdom. Learn About: Restaurantosaurus Animal Kingdom Disney World Restaurants First we’ve got quality bites at Tiffins and Nomad Lounge. Second we will soon have two brand new dining options in Pandora — The World of AVATAR: Pongu Pongu and Satu’li Canteen. And third, old standbys like Yak and Yeti and Flame Tree Barbecue are still killin’ the food game. Animal Kingdom has stepped up the food game yet again. But should you find yourself way over in Dinoland digging on something sweet and indulgent, adventure your way right over to Restaurantosaurus. It’s just past the spinning triceratops and across the way from the dig site. You can’t miss it. While I LOVE Restaurantosaurus, we have had a bit of a hit or miss relationship with Animal Kingdom’s desserts-in-a-glass, and we’re happy to see them being replaced by better options. The Warm Turtle Brownie we tried recently was a big hit! And since we’re always open to try new things, on this visit we ordered the Strawberry Cheesecake. Restaurantosaurus Strawberry Cheesecake Let’s just start by saying this ain’t a dessert in a glass. Look at that crust! It’s all graham crackers and buttery-ness! It’s just the right thickness to add texture without overwhelming the contents of its shell. Restaurantosaurus Strawberry Cheesecake It’s topped with a massive half piece of strawberry and some slightly thick strawberry sauce. Inside we found delightfully creamy, soft, and full-bodied cheesecake filling. It was served cold (which we think heightens the richness of the dessert). Restaurantosaurus Strawberry Cheesecake Interior Now, we have to admit: this was a little on the small side. And that’s not just because it was so tasty that we wanted MORE. It’s actually a little small. But it’s really, really good. It costs $4.59 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. It’s probably a little too expensive to pay for out of pocket in our opinion, but it’s a great use of a DDP credit! Are you on the lookout for new desserts to try in the Parks? Will you join us on April 14 for the first-ever Star Wars: Galactic Nights event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? More details were just shared on this new Hollywood-inspired special evening, which will include celebrity chats, behind-the-scenes looks, attractions and much more. First, Vanessa Marshall, the voice of Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels, will serve as host of “Inside the Saga: Celebrity Chat Show” and take you behind the scenes of the latest installment to the Star Wars franchise, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This event-exclusive offering will take place multiple times throughout the event in the Epic Theater. You also won’t want to miss the Inside the Saga pre-show, featuring Star Wars Show hosts, Andi Gutierrez and Anthony Carboni. Guests of all ages can explore Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the Seize the Saga Interactive Scavenger Hunt, searching for unique Star Wars photo backdrops. Guests will step into immersive and iconic scenes from the films, including a newly created backdrop from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and receive a themed piece representing each of the eight Star Wars films. These pieces will come together to form a one of a kind event keepsake. And as previously announced, the event will mark the debut appearance of BB-8 at Star Wars Launch Bay. Park access and activities will be limited to Star Wars: Galactic Nights event ticket holders only. Here’s a look at other event offerings: Rebel Base Activities – The Rebel Base will serve as the event hub with multiple events, hosted shows, Star Wars dance parties and more taking place in the center of the park. Galactic Nights Stars in Cars Motorcade – This procession will welcome in Star Wars celebrities down Hollywood Blvd. Imperial March & March of the First Order – Get your cameras ready for the arrival of the dark side. Darth Vader will lead a battalion of stormtroopers on a dramatic march down Hollywood Blvd to the Event Stage. Captain Phasma will also lead a unit of First Order stormtroopers through the park, pausing to give a demonstration of power and strength. “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” – Watch high-energy clips of the best moments from the film saga juxtaposed with character moments on stage, featuring Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren and more. “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular” – The skies will come alive with the power of the Force, as the park’s popular Star Wars-themed nighttime spectacular lights up the night. Show Your Star Wars Spirit – Come dressed as your favorite character and celebrate 40 years of Star Wars milestones. Other popular attractions will be open, including Star Wars Launch Bay. If you are planning to attend this year’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, be sure to visit our Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Cast Members to take part in a unique opportunity to conduct some important citizen-science research. You can assist our conservation team in helping increase local populations of butterflies – and it takes only a couple of minutes! Last year, Epcot guests observed a butterfly garden at the festival and recorded which plants attracted the most butterflies. Because of this research, we identified two native plant species – blanket flowers and chapman’s cassia – as butterfly favorites! We shared that data with the Disney Horticulture team members, and they are planting more of these flowers to attract butterflies around the Walt Disney World Resort. This year, we are testing a new suite of plants at the Flower & Garden Festival, and we need your help to determine which ones our native butterflies like best! This is a fantastic activity for guests of all ages, and families can participate together. In an earlier Wildlife Wednesday post, we told you about our efforts to reverse the decline of Atala butterflies. Guests at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort have helped us release more than 330 of these butterflies bred at Walt Disney World Resort. We even worked with residential communities in Vero Beach to ensure there are plenty of the Atalas’ favorite plants to eat and lay their eggs on. I’m thrilled to report that the butterflies have laid eggs of their own and established new populations that have spread miles north and south of Vero Beach, and this after being on the brink of extinction! You can learn much more about Disney’s conservation work to help save butterflies and what you can do in your own backyard to support these pollinators. Our ASE team will join butterfly biologists from University of Florida to host presentations at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., March 31-April 2. Our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering just shared another video on the construction of this new land, which is set to open May 27, 2017. In this video, several members of the Pandora project team explain just how important research has been in bringing Pandora – The World of Avatar to life. Culture plays a huge part in the park’s other lands, like Asia and Africa. Therefore, researching a realistic culture that would exist on Pandora has been a priority. In addition to culture, placemaking has also extended to designing what guests will hear when they enter the new land. What should guests hear in the natural environment of Pandora? GOOD MORNING from Magic Kingdom! Learn About: Joffrey's Revive Magic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants Of course, it’s pretty much always a good morning when you’re in Disney World. But if you’re in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, the mornings are even brighter thanks to the arrival of the brand new Joffrey’s Revive Coffee Kiosk! Tucked next to the Tomorrowland Stage where you can sometimes find the Mr. and Mrs. busting a move at the #INCREDIBLESSuperDanceParty, the newest Joffrey’s Kiosk is the first in the Magic Kingdom. (Until now, the closest kiosks to Magic Kingdom have been at the Ticket and Transportation Center and the Contemporary Resort.) There are two things you can count on with a visit to a Joffrey’s kiosk in Disney World: one, fun theming to perfectly match its suroundings. And two: a good cup of coffee (or tea, if you prefer). Joffrey’s Revive sign We’re here to check out both. So, Blast Off with us to Tomorrowland to hang out and caffeine up at the new Joffrey’s Revive! Atmosphere As anticipated, Joffrey’s Revive fits right in its new Tomorrowland home. Joffrey’s Revive The retro-futuristic dome top and color scheme to match and complement the nearby Tomorrowland Transit Authority (WEDway People Mover), help Joffrey’s Revive to have a familiar feel, even as a brand new addition. Joffrey’s Revive While all Joffrey’s kiosks around Disney World are small and basic window order operations, it’s always fun to see how well they blend in with their location. Joffrey’s Revive Window This new kiosk is no exception. Short, but sweet! Now, let’s grab a cup o’ joe! Eats If it’s coffee you’re after, you’ve come to the right place. The key items on the menu are specialty espresso beverages, but tea drinkers will find options here as well. Joffrey’s Revive Menu A quick glance also reveals the Seasonal Specialties, which currently include the Dreamscicle Iced Latte, Island Swizzle Iced Tea, and the Dulce de Leche Iced Latte. You can doctor up any beverage to your taste with the sweeteners and cream selections available at the counter. Sugars and Cream Sweeteners An assortment of pastries is also up for grabs, with cookies, twists, croissants, and fritters. And, of course, several Big Ol’ Donut King Donuts. Pastry Selection Pastry Selection So, as you can see, the offerings here match those at the Joffrey’s Coffee Kiosks in Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot, but with two exceptions. First, you won’t find any options to add alcohol to your beverage as you will find in several other park locations, in keeping with all snack and Counter Service locations at the Magic Kingdom. And second, Joffrey’s Revive is the only home to an exclusive Tomorrowland beverage: the Mission to S’mores Latte! Mission to S’mores Latte sign And of you trip up because you’re in Tomorrowland and ask for a “Mission to Mars Latte” instead, I’m sure the Cast Member assisting you will understand :). It’s a fun little nod. Like all the other espresso drinks, you can choose to have your Mission to S’mores Latte served hot or iced, and the key ingredient is artisan roasted espresso. But “Joffrey’s Beverage of Tomorrow” is mixed with chocolate sauce and Mars-mallow (ha!) syrup, and uniquely topped with whipped cream, graham cracker “space sprinkles,” and more Mars-mallows. Mission to S’mores Latte Yep, that’s whipped cream AND marshmallows — not just one or the other. Because Joffrey’s understands. Mission to S’mores Latte Toppings This is one of those unapologetic, hey-it’s-vacation, let’s-have-dessert-for-breakfast drinks. And once you get through all those toppings, you’re left with a rich espresso sweetened by the chocolate sauce (this one’s also sweeter than your typical specialty drink due to the addition of marshmallow syrup). Plus, there’s an added caffeine bonus to prepare you for the very short jaunt over to Space Mountain. Mission to S’mores Latte And don’t worry — if that doesn’t exactly float your boat as a day starter, you can always come back for it as an afternoon pick-me-up, or choose whichever other boost that boosts you the best! (Umm... can you tell I’ve had some caffeine here? ) Overall Welcome, Joffrey’s, to the Magic Kingdom at long last! I’m all for having more coffee options at the parks; not only for when the lines at the in-park Starbucks are super long (that’s Main Street Bakery, if you’re in Magic Kingdom), but also to have another choice to meet different coffee tastes and preferences.
