  1. Unleash your inner Super Hero and come face-to-face with more of your favorite Marvel characters during Marvel Super Hero Summer, now open at Hong Kong Disneyland! New recruits can grab S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Credentials and a personalized ID at a designated location before going on missions. Visit Captain America–A Hero’s Welcome, where Captain America will personally welcome new recruits to the team, and meet the legendary web-slinger at the Spider-Man Heroic Encounter. Of course, guests visiting Stark Expo can also meet with Iron Man himself. Then, walk through Mission: Dimensions of Danger and help Doctor Strange recover the powerful Portal Nexus artifact before it falls into the hands of Hydra. In order to save Hong Kong, Agents will battle alongside Black Widow and Hawkeye, join forces with the mighty Thor in Odin’s Vault, help Star-Lord in the Collector’s Museum and much more. Of course, the Expo Shop also has new themed merchandise items, including Super Hero costumes, toys and personalized products, and you’ll find new food and beverage items exclusive to the resort. Hong Kong Disneyland also teamed up with Marvel to introduce an all-new, limited-edition Marvel comic book, “Iron Man Experience: Hong Kong Heroes #1,” and printed copies are for sale during Marvel Super Hero Summer only at the resort. The Marvel team, along with a Hong Kong artist and a Hong Kong based writer, spent two months crafting the comic. Set in Hong Kong, the story debuts a new armored hero who joins Iron Man and the other Super Heroes to stop the bad guys from taking a secret treasure hidden in Hong Kong’s Stark Expo. And in just a few years, the adventure continues with our Hong Kong Disneyland expansion which includes an exciting new Super Hero-themed area and an attraction inspired by the franchise. We can’t wait for you to join in on the action, so keep an eye out for more updates on the Disney Parks Blog. View the full article

  11. A whole new land … and a new opportunity for tweens! As I’ve previously mentioned in this column I have a tween daughter. Sadly, she has yet to step into the all-new Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Having spent quite a bit of time in this new extraordinary land over the past several weeks, I am determined to create the perfect day … and night … for her to fully experience the best Pandora has to offer to kids her age. Here’s my list of the top nine things I think she and other tweens will enjoy! 1. Stroll Through the Land – My daughter may be all about her electronics and fast-moving action, but I am sure she will be wowed by the stunning beauty of Pandora. She’s seen portions of the movie AVATAR, and to see the setting of the movie come alive in such a breathtaking manner will impress her to no end. Before she ventures off to experience the attractions, I want her to take in the sheer beauty of it all. And if you or your tweens haven’t seen the movie, you’ll still love the land. 2. Ride the Na’vi River Journey – I truly believe this incredible trip through the bioluminescent forest will set the stage for her entire day. 3. Stop at the Colors of Mo’ara Face-Painting Kiosk – After spying the Na’vi in the bioluminescent forest during the Na’vi River Journey attraction, my daughter will be ready for a transformation herself! So many options to choose from, but I believe she’ll want to have her entire face painted blue to look like a Na’vi herself. 4. Nibble on a Cheeseburger Pod – Satu’li Canteen is unlike any other Walt Disney World Resort eatery and I just know she will adore the cheeseburger pods on the new menu. They’re unusual, yet familiar too. 5. Sip on a Night Blossom – Pongu Pongu specialty kiosk offers a variety of cool and refreshing drinks. The non-alcoholic Night Blossom is filled with fruity flavors — the perfect frou frou treat for my daughter. 6. Cuddle a Direhorse – One look in my daughter’s bedroom and one sees a multitude of stuffed animals. She loves to adopt creatures of all kinds. And an adorably blue Baby direhorse or hexapede to cuddle will be a perfect addition to her collection. 7. Selfies at the Overlook – Tweens love to take selfies! The overlook area of Pandora provides the perfect selfie backdrop, with its lush and colorful plants and spectacular views of the waterfall and floating mountains. 8. Soar on the Back of a Banshee – I would save the most thrilling attraction for last, as the Avatar Flight of Passage ride is truly like no other. While it’s thrilling, in every way, I’ll be eager to see if she finds it as beautiful as all the people who’ve been brought to tears by it! 9. Return to Pandora at Night – A day in Pandora will make you hungry for dinner. Just across the bridge from Pandora is Tiffins. This signature restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious dinner before returning to Pandora to see it glow with bioluminescence. My daughter has never experienced anything as magnificent as this land at night, and I can’t wait to share it with her. View the full article
  12. In today’s Disney Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what Tinker Bell’s pal, Silvermist, would do if she had the chance to visit a Disney Park. Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom offers guests a thrilling whitewater adventure down the Chakranadi River in the Asia section of the park. This attraction just may be up Silvermist’s ally! “Since Silvermist is a water-talent fairy, I’d imagine she’d have a lot of fun riding the Kali River Rapids ride!” Ashley said. View the full article

  22. If you’ve ever visited Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, you know this Disney Vacation Club resort, oozing with Old Florida charm, is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing beach vacation. AAA, one of the leading sources of travel ratings in the industry, has recognized Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and its cast members with a coveted Four Diamond rating, an honor that goes to fewer than six percent of the nearly 28,000 hotels approved by the travel company. According to AAA, “A Four Diamond hotel is refined and stylish, providing upscale physical attributes, extensive amenities and a high degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail.” We are honored to receive such a coveted rating and proud of the resort’s cast members for achieving such high marks! Located on Florida’s East Coast just a two hours’ drive from Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort immerses visitors in its themes of citrus, treasure and the environment. The resort boasts a variety of water-themed activities, including access to the warm waters of the Atlantic, a children’s water play area, a miniature golf course, a Mickey Mouse-shaped swimming pool complete with a water slide and so much more. Situated on one of the most active sea turtle nesting beaches in Florida, sea turtles are an important part of Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. As part of Disney’s overall commitment to sea turtle conservation, a team of Disney researchers track sea turtle nests on several miles of the beach near the resort to help protect them and study what factors contribute to the successful hatching of sea turtle nests. From May to October, members and guests can observe the nesting season of threatened or endangered sea turtles such as loggerheads and leatherbacks during special outings with Disney sea turtle experts. New to the resort is Wind & Waves, a dining experience that includes a grill focused on fresh, local seafood and produce, a market with grab-and-go meals and a poolside bar. This Florida-themed food experience offers something for every dining style. Not only is the food amazing, but the accommodations at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort are stunning. Situated along the beautiful Atlantic coastline, Deluxe Studios, Inn rooms and one- and two-bedroom villas offer an assortment of options for your family, making this resort a truly unique Disney retreat. 23. Konnichiwa! Or “Greetings” from our friends and fellow cast at the Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan. Having recently returned from Tokyo Disney Resort, I can tell you it’s a Disney resort unlike any other. They LOVE to throw a party. I was there during their Easter celebration and it was Egg-ceptional. This fall will see the 20th year of Halloween events to the resort – with haunted happenings at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea parks. “Disney’s Halloween” will include “spook-tacular” fun in both parks: Tokyo Disneyland will present the music-themed “Halloween Pop’n LIVE,” featuring favorite Disney characters and entertainers energizing the crowd along the park’s regular parade route. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and their friends will be sporting new costumes; and an MC will appear for the first time to take the excitement to a higher level. And, if that weren’t enough, favorite Disney Villains like Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty” overtake the Mediterranean Harbor at Tokyo Disney Sea – together with Mickey and friends – for a cauldron cavalcade of music and dance called “The Villains World.” The Disney Villains take the leading roles and they put on their best performances to attract and impress the “The Villains World” at Tokyo DisneySea Disney Friends and Guests. Dressed in costumes inspired by the Disney Villains, Mickey Mouse, his friends and all the Guests join the party. For the first time both parks will allow guests of all ages to dress up as Disney Characters on any day during the special event period. Guests will be able to immerse themselves in the world of Disney even more as they get into the Halloween spirit by dressing up with simple character touches or going all the way with full character costumes.* Guests will also find specialty food and beverage offerings; photo locations, Halloween-themed decorations and merchandise throughout both parks to spell-a-brate the season of ghosts, goblins and ghouls. To find out more about Disney’s Halloween and all the fun stuff at Tokyo Disney Resort, check out their web site. *For details on the restrictions for visiting Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea in full Disney character costumes, please check the Tokyo Disney Resort Official Website (Japanese language only) or contact the Tokyo Disney Resort Information Center. 24. Latina Magazine and Growing Up Bilingual blogger, Paula Bendfeldt-Diaz, has been vacationing at Walt Disney World Resort with her children since they were babies. Now that they are getting older, she knows that there are many things that they can experience now – as tweens and teens – in a whole new way! Here are some of the tips that she gave us: Get them more involved in planning – As they grow, kids want to be more involved in what they do on vacation. So take advantage of this. Start by checking out the Walt Disney World website so they can give ideas on what things they want to do, see and eat. Know your kids’ interests and personalities – This will help you pick and choose the perfect things to do for each of them. One might be into roller coasters like Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom while the other may prefer watching nighttime spectaculars like Rivers of Light at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Get ready for thrilling adventures – What a wonderful experience it is to have your kids reach the height requirements on the most exciting rides. And Paula agrees! She even let them go on some of the rides alone because they not only reached the height requirement, they were confident enough to do the attractions on their own. This gives them independence and gives mamá and papá a break. Expand your dining options – Kids can now go with their parents to restaurants with more interesting options, that are not all quick and casual. They can enjoy the restaurants in World Showcase at Epcot or explore new foods like Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village, with a variety of African and Indian flavors. There are so many options for them to enjoy now that they are getting older. And last but not least, don’t forget family favorites – Whether they are rides, experiences or even photo locations, there are some favorites that parents and their children will never outgrow. Go and take photos with the characters and ride a classic attraction like “it’s a small world”. How are you preparing for your first visit with tweens or teens to our vacation kingdom? We want to know! View the full article
