We need to write a jingle in which the only words are “Secret Menu Item! Yeah!” because we feel the need to sing whenever we discover a new, amazing Disney food item that’s, like, part of a secret food society. And we have a totally awesome one for ya. It involves…tater tots. BRISKET TAWTS!!!!! Before you run out the door to get to the airport for your emergency Disney tot run, you’ll need to know that these secret menu items are located at Disneyland’s River Belle Terrace. River Belle Terrace Many of us knew this place as a counter service location until about…a year ago. These days it’s table-service lunch and dinner, and the outside terrace is still sheer Disney theming perfection. The stuff of wrought iron dreams, umbrella tassels and all. Outdoor Seating Our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers (@DiningInDisney) checked it out after it’s rebranding, and discovered that it’s BBQ-licious now. (They serve the “caviar of the south” — Pimento Cheese Dip — so it’s a winner in our (cheese-filled) world.) But you’re thinking “Hey, DFB, you promised tots! Where are the tots?!” Friends, they are worth the wait. Remember these are NOT on the menu. So when you place your order at River Belle Terrace, you’ll need to request the Loaded BBQ Tots and/or (we prefer and) the Loaded Buffalo Tots. They are both great. Our Disneyland pal Sabrina Lizette got us the skinny on these delicious bites. The Loaded Buffalo Tots are a hefty portion of golden fried tater tots, a thick drizzle of pimento cheese dip, some tangy Frank’s hot sauce, gorgonzola cheese crumbles, celery leaves, and pickled onions. Deep breath; we know this is exciting. Loaded Buffalo Tots Seriously, these hit every Buffalo chicken flavor note and then some — but they’re vegetarian. Such a tasty option! We love the use of the celery leaf, which imparts that quintessential Buffalo sidekick without chunks of celery. Meanwhile, the pimento cheese dip is the stuff of cheese dreams! Loaded Buffalo Tater Tots Of course, if you want to chow down on some taters and ‘Q, the Loaded BBQ Tots are made for you! But it’s not standard BBQ pulled pork (which we love in every incarnation, including Animal Kingdom’s BBQ Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese!). Nosiree, this here is BBQ brisket! Y’all! For real! Brisket Tots Y’All!!! The brisket is accompanied by some satisfyingly zippy BBQ sauce and a smattering of fresh green onion. And, because everything is better with cheese, there’s more pimento cheese dip on this dish too! It’s a messy, delightful plate of food. We. Must. Devour. Brisket Toooooooots Secret Menu Items! Yeah! We are allllll about these tot varieties. Sabrina suggests you run — RUN — and get these if you’re within the vicinity. And it’s pretty easy to see why. Disney experts will take viewers on a journey through the landscape of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park in a one-hour documentary-style show set to premiere Tuesday, June 27 on Animal Planet. Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Alive with Magic will feature interviews with the creators and caretakers of this theme park who share conservation messages, reveal immersive encounters with wildlife, as well as peek into the natural habitats of the animals who call Disney’s Animal Kingdom home. The TV special also showcases the can’t-miss attractions and entertainment at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as it transforms from a day-into-nighttime park. There’s also exclusive footage of the new Pandora – The World of Avatar, including interviews with iconic filmmaker James Cameron whose vision of flying on a banshee and sailing through a bioluminescent rainforest becomes a reality. Stefan Riemer, executive pastry chef on the Culinary Development team for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and Olivier Saintemarie, executive pastry chef for Chefs de France restaurant in the France pavilion at Epcot World Showcase, are both among Dessert Professional Magazine’s “Top 10 Pastry Chefs in America.” In celebration of this honor, the Disney Parks Moms Panelists share their favorite places to find sweet treats around Walt Disney World Resort. Kay B.’s favorite place for dessert is tucked up in the streets of the France pavilion at Epcot, and it is also her favorite place for breakfast. “Executive Pastry Chef Olivier Saintemarie has a list of culinary achievements for Guests to experience during their stay, and one of them is a best kept secret for breakfast. Stop in at Les Halles Bouglangerie-Patisserie.” she said. “The choices for authentic French pastry are great, and they are all truly just as delicious as if you were eating one on the streets of Paris.” “The latest tastings of Chef Riemer pasties can be found at the new Satu’li Canteen restaurant in Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” Kay B. shares. “Since my first taste I have been craving his blueberry cream cheese mousse and chocolate cake and can recommend both for young and old!” If you happen to be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, head over to Sweet Spells for your choice of carmel apples. Guests can now experience “Happily Ever After” at Magic Kingdom Park. It’s a new nighttime spectacular that combines the magic of Disney storytelling, beloved Disney characters, fireworks and more. I’ve seen the show twice and I love it, especially the incredible original score. I recently discovered that the commemorative merchandise we developed for this show incorporates elements from the gorgeous show poster created by Brett Owens, Senior Graphic Designer with Disney Parks Live Entertainment. I spoke with him about designing the poster. “When developing the poster, we chose to highlight key characters that make ‘Happily Ever After’ so special,” explained Brett. “It was important to show these characters setting out on their hero’s journey as the magic transforms Cinderella Castle into some of the locations we visit in the show.” This poster is currently found under the train station tunnel near the entrance to Main Street, U.S.A. It joins some of the most iconic Disney Parks attraction posters at Magic Kingdom Park. Due to popular demand, the poster was recently added to the Art of Demand kiosks in the Art of Disney locations. Guests should look for it under the “Attraction Poster” section. There are three paper and three canvas options available for printing. Guests can also have their image framed and shipped home. At the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A., guests will find other products including t-shirts for adults and kids, a logo hat, and a 16-ounce Tervis tumbler. The image of Cinderella Castle, the key hole, and a stylized logo from the poster were included on several of the items. Guests will also find two ceramic ornaments with the show’s logo. Other items include a t-shirt for Annual Passholders (please present a valid Annual Pass in order to purchase); a tank top with a beautiful nighttime image of Cinderella Castle for women; and an open edition logo pin (available mid-summer). New this month, we are introducing a light-up headband which contains clear mouse ears that light up. They are different from Magic with Magic items, which will light up in time with or in the same color scheme during “Happily Ever After.” Items are available at select merchandise locations throughout Magic Kingdom Park. This week’s Disney Doodle takes a look at what Simba and Nala might do if they had the chance to visit a Disney Park. According to artist Ashley Taylor, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and all it’s opportunities for exploration would be an ideal setting for them. In this “doodle,” she has them exploring the park’s icon, the Tree of Life. “Animal Kingdom is such a beautiful park at night,” she said. “I’d imagine Simba and Nala enjoying a romantic stroll around the Tree of Life!” View the full article

We recently we dug our spoons once more into Kaki Gori, the Japanese Shaved Ice served at Kabuki Cafe. For years now, it’s been THE go-to treat as far as frozen options in the Japan Pavilion go, perfect for the cooling down in the current summer heat. Japan Pavilion Pagoda But did you know that Japan has got another — perhaps more authentic — frozen snack to keep your temperature down? It’s called Mochi. And though it’s been hanging around at the carts in the pavilion on-and-off for years, this additional cart we spotted recently seems to be mostly Mochi-centric. New Japan Pavilion Cart The design is fun and fitting within the pavilion with its nifty, linear shape. New Japan Pavilion Cart The cart holds several beverage options in addition to the Mochi, so if you’re in the mood for liquid refreshment you can get that here, too. And you can find the Japanese beverage Ramune here, if you’d rather keep with the pavilion’s theme. Beverage Options But we were after the Mochi Ice Cream, which are kept in a grab-and-go freezer on the side of the cart. Grab-and-Go Mochi Ice Cream You may have already spotted — or even tried — the dry packaged Mochi cakes sold inside the Mitsukoshi store, or in House of Good Fortune in China. The Mochi Ice Cream here come in two different sizes — a two-piece and a six-piece — and five different flavors: Green Tea, Strawberry, Chocolate, Mango, and Vanilla. (Note that the two-packs are only available in strawberry and vanilla.) Japan Cart Menu We grabbed one of each size, and while they are packaged very differently, they are made by the same company. Mochi Packages Mochi Ice Cream is essentially a sphere of frozen cream encapsulated in a sticky rice dough. (Mochi is the name for the dough itself.) The resulting dough-covered sphere is dusted with corn and potato starch, making Mochi Ice Cream treats gluten free (and sticky-free)! You even get a little of the history on the package. Mochi Packaging The strawberry six-pack is presented in fun, colorful packaging. And the image on the bottom gives you a visual idea of what you’re getting. Strawberry Mochi Packaging Tucked inside is a divided tray with six individual Mochi Ice Cream treats. Definitely not the ice cream we’re used in the parks — but much more convenient for sharing! Strawberry Mochi Pack You can see the dusting of starches on the outside, which allow you to pluck the Mochi from the tray without much trouble. And that pink color is so pretty! FYI: the Mochi dough shell itself does not have a distinct flavor, so even though it’s strawberry-pink, don’t expect a strawberry flavor. Strawberry Mochi Pack That Mochi coating is, admittedly, a bit of a stumbling block. It’s quite chewy and takes some time to get used to after you bite into it. But it’s not unpleasant; just unusual. Mochi Close Up And inside is a delicious ball of strawberry ice cream made with strawberry puree and milk. Mochi Interior The six-pack is ready for sharing, and we think families or groups will have fun breaking into the Mochi packaging and trying this unique snack. But if you’re a party of one (or two), the two-pack is going to be more your style. The packaging features Hello Kitty (Hello, Kitty!!!!!!), hence the complementary colors with the vanilla and strawberry flavor options. Vanilla Mochi Packaging The gluten free label and nutritional information are front and center on this one. Packaging Close Up We grabbed the vanilla this time, and it’s fairly nondescript in the tray. Like, there’s no hello kitty emblazoned on the front or anything like the little green men in tokyo. (Sad face.) Vanilla Mochi The outer layer of Mochi was exactly the same otherwise — texture and flavor were identical to the six-pack option. You can see that once they’re out of the package, these do start to melt. Vanilla Mochi Somewhat surprisingly, though, the vanilla version was more flavorful than the strawberry! The vanilla flavor was both sweeter and more pronounced. This added a little more oomph to the otherwise neutral Mochi dough. Vanilla Mochi Interior The two-pack is $3.99, which isn’t a bad price tag to try a more authentic cultural item than, say, the Green Tea Cheesecake you’ll find at Katsura Grill (note that these are not marked with the Disney Dining Plan snack credit designation). I’d say Mochi Ice Cream is a snack to try once, although I honestly probably won’t go back for a second. But if you’ve got a Hello Kitty fan with you who also happens to have a bit of an adventurous streak when it comes to snacking, then you can definitely consider this a fun find! And it makes me wonder… does this mean we might have a shot at seeing the Little Green Mochi from Tokyo Disneyland in the upcoming Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios? I kinda doubt it, but still… it’s fun to dream! Don’t Miss Out on the ALL the Best Snacks Walt Disney World Has to Offer! Earlier this week, we shared a “Disney Parks After Dark” image that was snapped at Pandora – The World of Avatar at night, when the bioluminescence transforms Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s latest land into something entirely different. It was New Year’s Day, January 1, 2012, when Jeff Reitz, of Huntington Beach, California, began his special Disneyland Resort adventure: a plan to visit the parks every day for a year. He never stopped. On Thursday, June 22, Jeff visited for the 2000th consecutive day, a super heroic feat in the midst, appropriately enough, of the Summer of Heroes at the Disneyland Resort. Reitz, a U.S. Air Force veteran who works for the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in Long Beach, California (on work days, he makes his visits in the evening), credits the parks with recharging him after a hard day. He says he enjoys the music, the friendly park cast members and watching park guests having a good time. His favorite attraction is Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland park, and he’s experienced the new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction at Disney California Adventure park more than a dozen times already. He’s also looking forward to the return of “Fantasmic!” on July 17 along the Rivers of America in Disneyland park. Reitz adds that Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park are always fun, and he’s going to continue treating himself to daily park visits for as long as he can. Supernova Shakes at Planet Hollywood Granted, milkshakes originally became popular decades and decades ago, but crazy gourmet shakes are popping up everywhere from Planet Hollywood in Disney World to The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen in Universal Orlando, and far beyond. Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshake at the Toothsome Emporium Even boozy versions have been showing up in Disney World for a while now, at spots like Beaches and Cream and even Animal Kingdom’s Trilo-Bites. We started noticing the arrival of new Milkshakes at All Star Resorts a few months ago, but this latest incarnation is bigger than ever. World Premiere Food Court For instance, World Premiere Food Court at All Star Movies is currently laying down the red carpet for the Green Room Shake (with Kahlua and mint chocolate chip ice cream), and the Spotlight Shake (RumChata with vanilla ice cream and cinnamon). Milkshake Menu at World Premiere Food Court Non-alcoholic Shakes are also available, with the Cliffhanger and the Behind the Scenes Shake. We’re here to check out the new Frozen Drinks menu at Grandstand Spirits in All Star Sports! Grandstand Spirits Frozen adult specialties include The Avalanche, with Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Amaretto, strawberry and mango purees, and a float of Myer’s Dark Rum. The Cross Country Colada is Bacardi Superior Rum blended in with Pina Colada mix, while The Halfpipe is Spiced Rum blended with “Pineapple Smoothie” (more on that shortly). Grandstand Spirits Frozen Specialties Menu Margaritas include the Black Diamond (lime) and the Red Diamond (strawberry). And you’ll see that there is a non-alcoholic pina colada and pineapple soft-serve up for grabs. Back to that Pineapple Smoothie… if you take a look at the additional posted sign, you’ll see that the “Pineapple Smoothie” in question is described with a wink to a “traditional non-alcoholic pineapple favorite.” Additional Frozen Specials Sign So! A/K/A the aforementioned pineapple soft-serve… A/K/A DOLE WHIP!! Remember when we saw this one at Art of Animation’s Drop Off Pool Bar under the moniker Captain’s Pineapple earlier this year? Turning back towards All Star Music, Singing Spirits is offering a similar listing of cocktails. Singing Spirits Bar This time, though, the names are themed to — what else? — music! The Calypso, The Steel Drum, and the Celebrity Margarita are dupe drinks from the Grandstand, while the Intermission Break Lemonade (with Grey Goose and Cherry Noir Vodka) is exclusive to Singing Spirits. Singing Spirits Frozen Specialties Menu There are a few additional non-alcoholic options here as well, with the popular Lava Smoothie along with a coconut and strawberry version. And now we’re back to where we started: All Star Movies! Silver Screen Spirits The drinks at Silver Screen Spirits will now look familiar to you, with the Celebrity Margarita, the Red Carpet Margarita, The Trooper, and The Sparrow all simply name variations on the drinks we’ve spotted already. Not sure if it’s call of the whistle or the relaxing rhythms of a train as it chugs down the tracks, but I love trains. Trains are soothing and remind me of simpler times. They are also a great way to explore. The Walt Disney World Railroad takes guests on a ride back in time. We captured video of some little ones carrying on Walt Disney’s longtime fascination with trains. Their reactions are priceless as they journey on the steam-powered locomotive as it winds a mile and a half through the Magic Kingdom. Today, we’ve got a treat for y’all, and it won’t add a single calorie to your diet. We just think it’s super cool. But in order to get into it, we’ve gotta get into Pop Century Resort. Pop! Okay, so you know we’re alllll about the food here at DFB, but sometimes, Disney does something that’s weird and fun and random…and we just want to tell you about it! That’s what happened when we stumbled upon the Pop Century Shop Stop kiosk. Pop Century Entrance You know Pop Century as the value resort of over-the-top PlayDoh jars and Big Wheels, plus, you know, some trend-worthy grub. Like the King Whoopie Pie. King Whoopie Pie Occasionally we stop eating sweets long enough to dig into savory eats, like a classic-ish Sloppy Joe. Because look at the size of those onion rings! Sloppy Joe and Fries But Pop Century seems an appropriate place for a potential new trend, right? Enter: an ATM. Say what? You know Disney can do an ATM. C’mon: Sprinkles dispenses cupcakes at Disney Springs via these magical machines, so why not other awesome stuff? We give you exhibit A: the Everything Pop Shop Stop! Pop Century Shop Stop That’s right, friends. It’s an ATM that dispenses cool stuff like autograph books, pins, Magic Bandits, and D-TECH gear! Step right up, and select a category! Pop Century Shop Stop Goods To get a sneak peak of the goods inside, check out the display box on the top of the machine. There’s one autograph book option, featuring the Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and the ‘Munks! Plus there’s a pack of assorted MagicBandits (those fun bits that you can use to customize your MagicBand!). Goods from the Shop Stop You can also find pins — including a mystery pin pack! — and D-TECH gear — including Earbuds and SD-cards. Pop Century Shop Stop Gear We aren’t sure if these 24-hour ATMs are popping up in any other resorts, but they’re super convenient. As of this visit, the Shop Stop only took cards and didn’t accept any discounts (AP, etc.). Of course, all of these items are also available in the Everything Pop gift shop during shop hours, but this is a fun option no matter what time of day you need it!
