Greetings Disney Parks Blog readers! Our Marvel Day at Sea voyages are just around the corner, with action-packed fun and entertainment in store. To help you get into the Super Hero spirit for the adventures that lie ahead, we joined forces with Disney fashion expert Leslie Kay – creator of the DisneyBound blog – to share inspiration and tips for expressing your own super personality. What’s better than being boss? Being Captain, of course! Every ship has at least one captain, but when the Marvel Universe assembles on the Disney Magic, Captain America is at the helm. Cap will make appearances throughout the ship and you too can exemplify his courage, heroism and patriotism in your Captain America-inspired look. You can do this all day! Styling tips from Leslie: Some sort of striping around the midsection is key. The rest is color blocking. Blue on the arms and legs and red around the wrists and feet. Any sort of star or Americana accessories work. For more ideas to express your Super Hero “character”istics and to get a glimpse at what you can expect during this epic event, keep following along on the Disney Parks Blog as we reveal more Marvel Day at Sea fun in store. You’re going to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival! Hooray! Ok. Now what? In 2017, the Epcot Food and Wine Festival will take place August 31 through November 13. That’s 75 days of discovering new dishes, enjoying interesting wines, and learning about exciting cocktails and craft beers. But unless you’re independently wealthy, you probably won’t be enjoying the entire two and a half month stretch. Luckily, we know a thing or two about planning a GREAT Epcot Food and Wine Festival trip. We’ve even compiled our best tips in our DFB Guide to the Walt Disney World Food and Wine Festival, available right now for pre-order. To get you started on everything from choosing your dates, to what to pack, and how you pay for it all, let’s check out our best tips for Preparing for the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, From Start to Finish. 1) Schedule Your Dates It may seem basic, but get the calendar out and decide when you’d like to visit. But really, it’s not so basic, right? There are all kinds of things to consider: When are crowds the largest? What’s the weather like? And OMG is Hanson going to be there this year??? (Spoiler Alert: Yep. They are.) OMG! Hanson! (©Hanson) Unfortunately, with respect to schedules, if you have to plan in advance, you’re going to have to do so with some unknowns. Disney always puts out the final schedule of events, for everything from Special Events to Demonstrations and Seminars, pretty much at the last minute. Even Eat to the Beat is coming later and later (although we do have that full lineup — see it here!) Beverage Seminar Our suggestion? Plan as much as you can based upon weather, crowds, and a general idea of when Special Events have taken place historically. For a look back at all of the details of previous Festivals, check out our Disney Food and Wine Festivals Page. Of course, if you have the luxury of waiting until the last minute, stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog and join the DFB Newsletter. We’ll have every date you need as soon as they’re all available. 2) Buy the DFB Guide to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival I know. It’s like, “Hmmmm, DFB. Do I really need to buy your book?” But yeah. Ya kinda do. We take our work here at DFB very seriously. We know you guys look to us to provide all of the latest Disney food news and information you need to plan your visits and trips. And that goes double for Food and Wine! So our work on the festival never really stops, as we offer you the most comprehensive coverage you can find on the festival anywhere. And here’s the thing: it doesn’t all fit on Disney Food Blog. So we dive deep in the DFB Guide to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. Want to know when and where and how many times your favorite chef appears? We can tell you. How about a complete schedule of every event happening every day of the festival? No problem. Wait, will your favorite beer be at the Hops & Barley Booth in 2017? We can tell you that. How about pictures of nearly every food item that will be served at the booths? You betcha. And what about extra fun and helpful stuff, like touring strategies and crawls? Yep, we have that too. There’s no better source out there for festival coverage. No. Better. Source. Believe me, we’ve looked! So for the price of one visit to the Canada Booth (less actually!), get your pre-order of the 2017 DFB Guide to the Food and Wine Festival, and have everything you need at your fingertips. And even better — pre-order now, and the 2016 version is yours for FREE as an immediate download! Use code ENJOY for a 20% discount. 3) Look at Disney Food Blog’s Food and Wine Festival Pages For All the Details I can’t say this enough: check out our full list of Epcot Food and Wine pages, starting with our Main Festival Page. We cover it all. Every event, every menu item, every detail of the Food and Wine Festival from start to finish. Wanna Know Everything That’s Going to Be at the Morocco Booth? We Can Tell You! So when you’re planning for your trip, be sure to visit our Main Festival Page, where you’ll find links to everything — Booth Menus, Special Events, Low Cost Seminars and Demos — even the Eat to the Beat Concert Schedule. Bookmark the Main Page and check back frequently for updates. Preparation Area at Chef’s Showcase We’ll be bringing them to you right up to the beginning of the festival — and beyond! 4) Ready — Set — Call! Booking dates for Epcot Food and Wine Festival events are some of the most highly anticipated pieces of info we await each year. The reason for this is that some special events and even low cost seminars will sell out on the first day of booking. So if there are particular events or personalities you’re especially keen to experience or see, you’d best be on the horn early on opening day. Chef Warren Brown Do keep in mind that certain groups — Annual Passholders, DVC Owners, Golden Oak Residents, and Disney Chase Visa Cardholders — have been able to take advantage of early booking windows for some events (mostly seminars and demos) during previous years. If you belong to one of these groups, pay close attention. We’ll be telling you the day that phone lines will open so you can book before the general public gets access. Champagne Tasting So, just what can you expect the day the lines open? It can be a little crazy. Expect long waits and Cast Members who don’t necessarily have all the information (although many are totes awesome and try their very best to assist you however they can.) For more details, check out this helpful post on what to expect on peak booking days. REMEMBER: You will be able to book some events online at epcotfoodfestival.com on booking day! We suggest having two phones on hold with the Disney dining line, and trying to book online as well. 5) Essentials for Your Packing List So you’ve made your reservations and you’re ready to pack — hooray! You’ll be strolling the World Showcase Promenade, enjoying a Le Passion Martini in no time. La Passion Martini Slush But what should you take? We’ve got a couple of suggestions to make your trip even more awesome! (You knew we would.) Comfortable Shoes. Well, this goes for any visit to Disney, but especially when you’re walking hither and yon in Epcot. These Shoes Are Made For Walkin’. (No. Seriously. They Are.) You’re going to be doing a lot of walking as you cover all the booths. And if you plan to do Special Events, Culinary Demos, or Beverage Seminars, that’s even more steps on your Fitbit as you hit the booths in World Showcase, and then walk allllllll the way back to Festival Center for your scheduled events. Be sure that you’ve chosen wisely when it comes to footwear. Sorry, but leave the Louboutins at home. Start Your Planning NOW! News! The DFB Guide to the 2017 Epcot Food & Wine Festival e-Book is now available for pre-order! And if you pre-order the 2017 edition, you get the 2016 edition (with TONS of great info!) for FREE!!! Order your 2017 edition today and we’ll immediately send you the 2016 edition for FREE to get started on planning right away! Don’t miss a moment of the fun! Use code Chefs at check-out for a 20% discount! Be sure to stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for all of the latest coverage about the 2017 Epcot Food and Wine Festival. We’ll have the details FIRST! Elastic Waistbands. We always figure that a Disney Day will involve lots of eating, but that’s even more true at the Food and Wine Festival. So pace yourself, get in an extra workout (or two) — and pack those stretchy pants. Or even better — this Haunted Mansion Skirt. (Hey — comfortable can be cute too, ya know.) Squeeeeee! A Tray. One of the best tips that we can give you is to bring a tray and plan to use it when you’re at the festival. Buying one of everything at the Marketplace Booths is no joke, you guys. It’s not easy to carry multiple paper boats full of food without spilling something (and you can forget about the drinks). Do what the Disney pros do — us! — and pack a tray. DFB Tray FTW! They’re super cheap to pick up on Amazon, and you can jeuge it up any way you like. We personally think they look AWESOME sporting a DFB Bumper Sticker. Get yours here. Sunscreen and a Poncho. Make no mistake — October in Florida is definitely different than in other parts of the country, and sunscreen is still a must. But the weather can also be a little unpredictable, as Florida is going through that weird time of year where the afternoon thunderstorms are a little less sporadic — but can still totally happen. Rain, Rain Go Away. And Stop Turning the Food and Wine Festival Into a Sauna. So pack a poncho or umbrella as well as your SPF 50 so that you’re prepared rain or shine. 6) Going Cashless: Gift Cards and Magic Bands There are a couple super cool fun ways to go cashless at the festival’s marketplace booths. What you decide to use all comes down to preference, but there are definitely some reasons you might want to consider it. Let’s look at gift cards first. Reloadable Gift Cards Prepaid gift cards are a great way to budget. Know you want to spend only a certain amount on festival goodies? Load the card with that amount, keep track on your receipts, and when you’re done, you’re done! Second, festival gift cards are easy to use. They’re small and come attached to a little bracelet that makes them wearable, which makes your transactions at each booth a breeze, and way easier than fumbling with cash or pulling out a credit card at every stop. But if you’d like to simplify your life even further, don’t forget that you can pay for purchases at booths with a tap of your Magic Band. Again, this makes life a whole lot easier as you cruise the booths. And did we mention you can use your Disney Dining Plan snack credits to pay for many of the booth items!? Just keep in mind that it’s mighty easy to rack up a giant bill if you aren’t keeping track. 7) Leave Room to Be Spontaneous There is a lot happening at the festival every single day. While we strongly suggest that you plan ahead for which booths you’d like to visit, and schedule any demos or special events that you’d like to attend, we’d also advise you to leave a little wiggle room for some spontaneity. The Festival Center Information Desk Is Your Stop To Find Out What’s Available Each Day Check in at Festival Center to see what events might still be available the day you attend. Or find out which celebrity chefs are appearing, and see if you can get a wristband for a meet and greet. Sometimes, those impromtu opportunities turn out to be our most memorable experiences. Wanna Know More? Here’s everything we know so far about the 2017 Epcot Food and Wine Festival! Keep checking back. Since the Magic Kingdom Park opened in 1971, The Hall of Presidents has brought together a one-of-a-kind look at the office of the President of the United States through film and the magic of Disney’s Audio-Animatronics technology. Despite some media reports to the contrary, President Trump will have a speaking role in The Hall of Presidents, like every president since 1993. We have been working closely with the current White House — just as we have with previous administrations — and the president’s recording session has been scheduled. The attraction will re-open in late 2017. Whenever we refurbish one of our attractions, we take the opportunity to consider a broad range of enhancements. In this case, The Hall of Presidents is getting a new show, and a complete theater upgrade including a new sound system, lighting and high-definition projection system. The multi-screen viewing experience you may have seen in prior versions of the attraction is returning with an even wider vantage point of our country’s history. View the full article

By now we’ve all seen images (or been in the thick!) of the massive crowds at Pandora — The World of AVATAR in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Pandora — The World of AVATAR We’ve braved those crowds to give you the skinny on eats at Satu’li Canteen (including breakfast!) and the drinks at Pongu Pongu. Oh, and let’s not forget the fun pre-packaged snacks exclusive to Pandora! (VEIN POD!!!!) Blueberry Almond Pandora Popcorn But as it turns out, folks have still gotta figure out a way to beat the crazy heat even in picturesque Pandora. So today we’re checking out what is thus far the only bottled drink and ice cream cart in the World’s newest land. Just like everything else in Pandora, the cart is themed its new home. As opposed to your typical Ice Cream Novelties Cart, you’re instead visiting ACE Mobile Treats (the “ACE,” of course, referring to Alpha Centauri Expeditions, the interplanetary travel company that helps humans like us explore Pandora today). ACE Mobile Treats Beverage offerings include standard bottled hydration options you’ll find elsewhere: bottles of Dasani, smartwater, and Powerade, along with Zico Coconut Water (here in Watermelon Raspberry) and vitaminwater (Dragonfruit flavored!). Pandora Snacks and Drinks Menu While the Mobile Treats are brought to you on behalf of Pandora-friendly ACE, we think the bottle display is slightly more reminiscent of the Resources Development Administration (RDA) that once infringed on the natural lands of the Na’vi. Maybe, just like at Satu’li Canteen, ACE refurbished the stand for its more peaceful purposes. Pandora Bottled Water Display So, those are the drinks. Now, how about those treats? At ACE Mobile Treats, you’ll find an assortment of Frozen Fruit Bars. You can pick up the No Sugar Added Strawberry Fruit Bar — a staple at ice cream carts all over Disney World. Or you could try the Outshine Coconut Fruit Bar which has been hanging around Animal Kingdom at a few other carts for a little while now. But we went for something new: the Fruits of Mo’ara Fruit Bar. Pandora Frozen Treats Menu The Valley of Mo’ara is, in Avatar lore, the place where Na’vi and humans live peacefully together. So it makes sense that such a verdant and lush ecosystem would produce impeccable fruits. Hence, the Fruits of Mo’ara Fruit Bar (so very fruity that “Fruit” appears twice in the name ). Simple packaging has just a bit of artwork. (A DFB reader found a very similar bar at Trader Joe’s in her hometown. Can anyone let us know in the comments if the packaging is the same??) Fruits of Mo’ara Bar Flavors include strawberry, lime, and raspberry, and because they are carefully layered, you sort of get to try each one separately. Fruits of Mo’ara Bar I say sort of because once this starts melting in the summer heat, you’ll just have to attack it from any drippy angle that you can. But that’s totally fine because all three fruity flavors work well together. Fruits of Mo’ara Bar Even with prominent, dense flavors, the bar’s sorbet-like texture keeps it light, cool, and refreshing. Fruits of Mo’ara Bar Remember: you can find the Strawberry Bars just about everywhere in Disney World, and the Coconut Bars at additional select carts around Animal Kingdom. But the Fruits of Mo’ara Fruit Bar is only available in Pandora. And as the summer heats up and the crowds continue to roll in, we’ll be on the lookout to see if even more unique snacks are on the way to Disney World’s newest land! Love Disney Snacks? From time to time, we at the Disney Parks Blog like to showcase some of the artists who will be performing at Disney Night of Joy. This week, we’re highlighting a relative newcomer to the Contemporary Christian Music scene – Danny Gokey. The author of some of the most soul-provoking music in the industry right now, Gokey came to most of the public’s attention through his appearance on American Idol. His inspiring story of triumph over tragedy – along with a spectacular voice and emotional delivery – touched the hearts of the show’s viewers. Since that “break,” Gokey has stormed through the industry with hit after hit like “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again,” “Hope In Front of Me”, “Rise”, “More Than You Think I Am.” His latest album Rise is debuted at #1 on the Christian Billboard chart and his newest single “The Comeback” is currently climbing the Christian music charts propelling the album to even more success. We were honored to host Danny recently for a quick tour of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, where this year’s concerts will be held. Tickets are now on sale for Disney Night of Joy 2017. Guest can check out nightofjoy.com or 407-W-DISNEY for tickets and information. Groups of 10 or more can click here or call 877-NITE-JOY to purchase group tickets and learn about group discounts and benefits. A little reminder about this year’s talent: (Entertainment subject to change.) Friday, Sept. 8 – MercyMe, TobyMac, Zach Williams, Natalie Grant, Danny Gokey, Matt Maher, Colton Dixon, Rend Collective Saturday, Sept. 9 – Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Kirk Franklin, Jordan Feliz, Crowder, Jeremy Camp, Tye Tribbett. Throughout the day, you can also meet Mickey and the gang in patriotic attire outside The American Adventure, and at 9 p.m. that night “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” joins the celebration with the addition of a heart-pounding, all-American grand finale! Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Spend the Fourth celebrating some of the great icons of American popular culture at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with “The Music of Pixar LIVE! A Symphony of Characters” at 5 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 8 p.m., the all-new “Disney Movie Magic” experience at 9 p.m. and “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular” which takes to the skies at 9:30 p.m. with fireworks, lasers, projection effects and more! So, remember just a few weeks ago when we paid a visit to Bengal Barbecue in Disneyland to try their new Jungle Julep? Bengal Barbecue sign Well, just like always, we took our Jungle Julep and strolled around with it. Why? Because — even with the popularity of this Adventureland Skewer spot — this little kiosk has never had a dedicated seating area. Bengal Barbecue Kiosk Well, that’s all about to change… because not only is Bengal Barbecue getting it’s own seating, the new seating area will be located indoors! By the way, that Jungle Julep we mentioned is still around, along with two other new items. ©Disney Also joining the menu are an Ahi Poke Spring Roll (marinated Ahi tuna with lettuce, carrots, daikon, pickled cucumber, cilantro, Thai basil, mint, jalapeños and creamy wasabi mayonnaise in a rice paper wrap, served with ginger dipping sauce) and a Hummus Trio with veggies (jalapeño, black bean, and red pepper and feta). ©Disney Like the Jungle Julep, these items will only be around for a limited time. But, hey, Disney says the new indoor seating area is coming “SOON,” so you may be sipping your Julep in the shade on your next visit to Disneyland! Are you excited to pull up a seat at Bengal Barbecue? Please let us know with a comment! Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! We need to write a jingle in which the only words are “Secret Menu Item! Yeah!” because we feel the need to sing whenever we discover a new, amazing Disney food item that’s, like, part of a secret food society. And we have a totally awesome one for ya. It involves…tater tots. BRISKET TAWTS!!!!! Before you run out the door to get to the airport for your emergency Disney tot run, you’ll need to know that these secret menu items are located at Disneyland’s River Belle Terrace. River Belle Terrace Many of us knew this place as a counter service location until about…a year ago. These days it’s table-service lunch and dinner, and the outside terrace is still sheer Disney theming perfection. The stuff of wrought iron dreams, umbrella tassels and all. Outdoor Seating Our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers (@DiningInDisney) checked it out after it’s rebranding, and discovered that it’s BBQ-licious now. (They serve the “caviar of the south” — Pimento Cheese Dip — so it’s a winner in our (cheese-filled) world.) But you’re thinking “Hey, DFB, you promised tots! Where are the tots?!” Friends, they are worth the wait. Remember these are NOT on the menu. So when you place your order at River Belle Terrace, you’ll need to request the Loaded BBQ Tots and/or (we prefer and) the Loaded Buffalo Tots. They are both great. Our Disneyland pal Sabrina Lizette got us the skinny on these delicious bites. The Loaded Buffalo Tots are a hefty portion of golden fried tater tots, a thick drizzle of pimento cheese dip, some tangy Frank’s hot sauce, gorgonzola cheese crumbles, celery leaves, and pickled onions. Deep breath; we know this is exciting. Loaded Buffalo Tots Seriously, these hit every Buffalo chicken flavor note and then some — but they’re vegetarian. Such a tasty option! We love the use of the celery leaf, which imparts that quintessential Buffalo sidekick without chunks of celery. Meanwhile, the pimento cheese dip is the stuff of cheese dreams! Loaded Buffalo Tater Tots Of course, if you want to chow down on some taters and ‘Q, the Loaded BBQ Tots are made for you! But it’s not standard BBQ pulled pork (which we love in every incarnation, including Animal Kingdom’s BBQ Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese!). Nosiree, this here is BBQ brisket! Y’all! For real! Brisket Tots Y’All!!! The brisket is accompanied by some satisfyingly zippy BBQ sauce and a smattering of fresh green onion. And, because everything is better with cheese, there’s more pimento cheese dip on this dish too! It’s a messy, delightful plate of food. We. Must. Devour. Brisket Toooooooots Secret Menu Items! Yeah! We are allllll about these tot varieties. Sabrina suggests you run — RUN — and get these if you’re within the vicinity. And it’s pretty easy to see why. And when there’s this much edible and drinkable awesomeness in one place, it can be challenging to decide what you should eat. So we’re here to help! Even though there are some great choices all over Walt Disney World’s resorts and in all four parks, Epcot represents amazing diversity — in part due to the countries of World Showcase. I mean, with classics like Norway’s Schoolbread, all the yum in Karamell-Küche, and Grown Up Slushes in France, where in the world do you start?? Check out our What to Eat in Epcot Part 1, and let us help you decide! And stay tuned, because there’s so much to choose from in Epcot it’s gonna take us two videos to cover it all. ;-D And don’t forget — there’s plenty more where this came from. If you love this video, there’s plenty more for you to enjoy over on our DFB YouTube Channel! And if you hit the button below, you can subscribe to the channel and never miss a single episode! Stefan Riemer, executive pastry chef on the Culinary Development team for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and Olivier Saintemarie, executive pastry chef for Chefs de France restaurant in the France pavilion at Epcot World Showcase, are both among Dessert Professional Magazine’s “Top 10 Pastry Chefs in America.” In celebration of this honor, the Disney Parks Moms Panelists share their favorite places to find sweet treats around Walt Disney World Resort. Kay B.’s favorite place for dessert is tucked up in the streets of the France pavilion at Epcot, and it is also her favorite place for breakfast. “Executive Pastry Chef Olivier Saintemarie has a list of culinary achievements for Guests to experience during their stay, and one of them is a best kept secret for breakfast. Stop in at Les Halles Bouglangerie-Patisserie.” she said. “The choices for authentic French pastry are great, and they are all truly just as delicious as if you were eating one on the streets of Paris.” “The latest tastings of Chef Riemer pasties can be found at the new Satu’li Canteen restaurant in Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” Kay B. shares. “Since my first taste I have been craving his blueberry cream cheese mousse and chocolate cake and can recommend both for young and old!” If you happen to be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, head over to Sweet Spells for your choice of carmel apples. They even change the choices seasonally! If you are a fan of the peanut butter and jelly milkshake at 50’s Prime Time Café, but you don’t have reservations to eat there, don’t worry! You can stop by Tune-In Lounge and order one from the bar shares Cathy S. Not only are their so many unique desserts all over Walt Disney World Resort, there are also unique and special experiences to enjoy them, like the new Frozen Ever After Dessert Party at Epcot World Showcase Plaza East. Lindsey M. shares that this not to miss party will have desserts, exclusive fireworks viewing AND a ride on Frozen Ever After at the Norway pavilion. Guests can now experience “Happily Ever After” at Magic Kingdom Park. It’s a new nighttime spectacular that combines the magic of Disney storytelling, beloved Disney characters, fireworks and more. I’ve seen the show twice and I love it, especially the incredible original score. I recently discovered that the commemorative merchandise we developed for this show incorporates elements from the gorgeous show poster created by Brett Owens, Senior Graphic Designer with Disney Parks Live Entertainment. I spoke with him about designing the poster. “When developing the poster, we chose to highlight key characters that make ‘Happily Ever After’ so special,” explained Brett. “It was important to show these characters setting out on their hero’s journey as the magic transforms Cinderella Castle into some of the locations we visit in the show.” This poster is currently found under the train station tunnel near the entrance to Main Street, U.S.A. It joins some of the most iconic Disney Parks attraction posters at Magic Kingdom Park. Due to popular demand, the poster was recently added to the Art of Demand kiosks in the Art of Disney locations. Guests should look for it under the “Attraction Poster” section. There are three paper and three canvas options available for printing. Guests can also have their image framed and shipped home. At the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A., guests will find other products including t-shirts for adults and kids, a logo hat, and a 16-ounce Tervis tumbler. The image of Cinderella Castle, the key hole, and a stylized logo from the poster were included on several of the items. Guests will also find two ceramic ornaments with the show’s logo. Other items include a t-shirt for Annual Passholders (please present a valid Annual Pass in order to purchase); a tank top with a beautiful nighttime image of Cinderella Castle for women; and an open edition logo pin (available mid-summer). New this month, we are introducing a light-up headband which contains clear mouse ears that light up. They are different from Magic with Magic items, which will light up in time with or in the same color scheme during “Happily Ever After.” Items are available at select merchandise locations throughout Magic Kingdom Park. Guests may also order select items using the Shop Disney Parks app. View the full article

This week’s Disney Doodle takes a look at what Simba and Nala might do if they had the chance to visit a Disney Park. According to artist Ashley Taylor, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and all it’s opportunities for exploration would be an ideal setting for them. In this “doodle,” she has them exploring the park’s icon, the Tree of Life. “Animal Kingdom is such a beautiful park at night,” she said. “I’d imagine Simba and Nala enjoying a romantic stroll around the Tree of Life!” View the full article
