  1. Let’s talk about something we absolutely love: cake. We love cake in all kinds of shapes, configurations, and flavors. We love cupcakes, and we love cake pops, cake bars, and we love cake slices. CAKE! Now, there are several places in Disney World where you can grab some really good cake slices, but there’s one bakery we keep going back to again and again because it has those kinds of cake slices that make you feel like you’re celebrating a special occasion even when you’re not. So yep, we’re back at The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers to try a new cake slice flavor. The Cake Bake Shop is at Disney’s BoardWalk, and it has a reputation of being, well…pricey. Cake slices go for around $22-$23 here, and given that there are cheaper cake slices to be had in Disney World, it’s kinda’ controversial. But here’s the thing…we’ve never had a cake slice here that didn’t feel like something OTHER, and that’s what this bakery and restaurant does really well. It makes you feel like you’re having a special day, even if you’re not celebrating anything special. The Cake Bake Shop So let’s talk about this new cake slice we tried. It’s the Inside Out German Chocolate Cake, and it has three layers of French Valrhona chocolate cake filled with silky Callebaut Belgian chocolate ganache and a brown sugar cream packed with sliced almonds, toasted pecans, and shredded coconut. Right off the bat, you know you’re getting high-quality ingredients. But it’s also a pretty big and heavy slice of cake, making it shareable, which also gives it more value. Inside Out German Chocolate Cake The cake itself is fluffy and moist with a texture that makes your mouth sing. It’s not too rich, but it’s definitely a chocolate-lover’s dream. We could also eat that chocolate ganache with a spoon, no kidding. It’s almost like smooth fudge. Then you’ve got the filling that adds more texture and more flavors, but it’s all really well-balanced so that no one flavor overpowers the rest. And of course, the whole thing is covered in edible glitter to make it just that much more magical. Take a bite! Again, this is a place you want to go to when you’re feeling celebratory, even if you just want to celebrate that it’s Tuesday. If you’re going to pay $22 for a cake slice, we’ll tell you this…it’s worth it. We’ll be reviewing more new snacks (and more cake) in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more reviews. 2. It’s officially EPCOT Festival of the Arts time in Disney World! We visited the festival on opening day to see, do, and eat everything available at the event. But, of course, it takes time and planning for a full day at the Festival of the Arts to go smoothly, and that starts with packing your park bag. Swirled Showcase Flight at Festival of the Arts We checked in on a couple of our reporters covering the first day of the festival to see what they all packed for their long day in EPCOT. When covering EVERYTHING at the festival, you need to come prepared, so here’s what they took with them to try it all in one day. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Our first reporter came prepared to film and spend a full day in the park! You’ll notice things like tripods, battery chargers, and headphones in their park bag. Since we film and photograph everything we do on these festival days, we gotta be ready! Let’s take a look at what’s in the first bag! A Travel Mirror Is Super Useful ©Amazon If you’re like us and LOVING the food booths at the Festival of the Arts, a compact travel mirror can help you keep the mess off your face. While you’re wrapping up some snacks at one of the booths, pull out this handy mirror and check that there’s no leftover pieces on your face! View on Amazon This Pill Organizer Will Come in Handy at the Parks Pill organizer with labels Regardless of which park you’re at, a pill organizer is never a bad idea. But come prepared with some antacid and some Dramamine on your trip to EPCOT Festival of the Arts for all the interesting food you’ll be consuming and the following ride on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! View on Amazon A Microfiber Cloth for Your Sunglasses Is Very Practical ©Amazon Smudges happen, but if you keep one of these small microfiber towels in your park bag, you won’t have to deal with the glare all day long! View on Amazon A Portable Charger Is Always in Our Park Bag ©Amazon We go through A LOT of battery life on a festival day from all the photos and recordings we take to get you the best full coverage possible. But even if you’re not filming all day like we are, a battery charger is still totally useful. The constant use of the My Disney Experience app will drain your battery faster than you might expect. View on Amazon Don’t Forget Your Mineral Sunscreen ©Amazon You might not think sunscreen in January is a necessity, but it totally is. It’s not 95 or higher, but that sun is still strong. Grab a zinc oxide mineral sunscreen to ensure you’re covered. (Note: mineral sunscreen will sit on top of your skin instead of soaking into it, making it better than other sunscreens. But it will leave a white layer, too.) View on Amazon You’ll Always Catch Us with a Table Top Tripod ©Amazon Like we said, we do a lot of filming of everything on festival days, so a tripod is a must for us! You might not need one, but you’ll always find one in our park bag. View on Amazon Backup SD Cards Are a Must for Us ©Amazon Another thing you’ll always find with us in the parks is spare SD cards. We have to come prepared to grab LOTS of content. View on Amazon Of Course, a Wallet Is Very Important. We Love a Loungefly Wallet ©Amazon Yes, sadly, we do end up giving Disney World all of our money, especially on festival days. We buy food from every single food booth, so of course, we’re packing our wallets. You’ll probably wanna make sure you do, too. View on Amazon Last in Reporter 1’s Bag: We Don’t Go Anywhere Without Our Headphones ©Amazon We use headphones while recording, but they’re always useful to have with you! It’s easy to take calls in parks with a pair of headphones or listen to your favorite hits while enjoying the artsy ambiance of the festival. Plus, there are FuelRod kiosks all around Disney World, so you can always have a full one on hand! View on Amazon Don’t Forget the Hand Sanitizer Touchland and Disney Special Edition Hand Sanitizer + Mist Case Hand sanitizer at Disney World is a MUST. We love the Touchland sanitizers, especially the Mickey Mouse case! These sanitizers are compact, moisturizing, and smell so good. The case also comes with a key ring so you can attach it to your bag or keys. View on Amazon Chomps Are a Great Snack While Standing in Long Lines ©Amazon Chomps is a great beef jerky brand that also has turkey jerky varieties and TONS of flavor options. 3. Who doesn’t love saving money on Disney vacations? Getting more value out of what you pay for at Disney World is exactly what visitors are looking for this year. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Disney World vacations in 2026 are going to look very different, and it will start before you ever step into the parks. Disney just released some major hotel discounts, and while saving money is always nice, the bigger story is how those savings could completely change what families choose to spend money on during their trip. We’re breaking down how these BIG discounts are changing our vacation budget this year. Hotel Discounts in 2026 The first deal is available for anyone looking to stay at a Disney World hotel. With this offer, you can save up to 30% on select Disney Resort hotels for stays most nights from May 1st through October 4th, 2026 for 5 or more consecutive nights, and up to 25% for stays of 1 to 4 consecutive nights. Click Here for More Details on This Discount Art of Animation Florida residents are about to really love this offer. Florida Residents are able to save up to 35% on stays of 4 nights or longer from May 1st to July 29th, 2026. Read More Details for Florida Residents Here Caribbean Beach Resort Don’t worry, Annual Passholders aren’t being left behind. Annual Passholders can save up to 40% on rooms at select Disney Resort hotels this summer. The deal is available on stays most nights from May 1st to July 29th, 2026, for stays of 4 or more nights. Slightly smaller discounts are also available to Annual Passholders for shorter stays during those qualifying dates. Read More Details for Annual Passholders Here Coronado Springs Resort This next deal may be one of the best, especially if you’ll need both park tickets and accommodations this summer. This deal is called Add Free Days to Your Stay, and you can get two free room nights and theme park days when you purchase a select 4-night, 4-day (or longer) Walt Disney Travel Company room and ticket package. This deal is available for visits most nights from May 26th through September 15th, 2026, and can only be booked January 6th through February 15th, 2026. Read More About That Discount Here All-Star Music Resort Why These Hotel Discounts Matter Resort pricing plays a huge role in how families plan their entire trip. When one of the biggest fixed expenses drops, it creates flexibility elsewhere, and that flexibility can change your vacation experience. This means being able to reallocate money toward things that save time, reduce stress, or add comfort once you’re actually in the parks. Here are our top ways to change your budget with these discounts. Wilderness Lodge Resort Using Hotel Savings to Save Time With Lightning Lane Lightning Lane access has become one of the most debated Disney add-ons, primarily due to its cost. In December 2025, we saw Lightning Lane Multi Pass peak at $45 per person. For a family of four, purchasing Lightning Lane access for multiple park days can add up quickly. This is where discounted hotel rates make a difference. Kilimanjaro Safaris Lightning Lane When your resort stay costs hundreds less than expected, Lightning Lane becomes easier to justify as a time-saving tool rather than a budget-breaking splurge. Families who previously skipped it may find that reallocating hotel savings toward Lightning Lane allows them to do more attractions with less waiting and feel less pressure to rope drop or stay late every night. In other words, cheaper hotels can translate directly into more relaxed park days. Everest Adding Table-Service Dining Table-service meals could be the first thing families cut when trying to save money at Disney World. Between higher menu prices and gratuity, it’s easy to default to quick service only. Hotel discounts change that and give guests more flexibility to dine at restaurants that they might have skipped previously. You could budget now to add one character meal or try that one restaurant that has been on your bucket list — Steakhouse 71, anyone? Steakhouse 71 Stack Burger Why This Is a Big Year to Revisit the Disney Dining Plan The Disney Dining Plan is another add-on many families have gone back and forth on, particularly when trying to control overall trip costs. But 2026 is shaping up to be a uniquely interesting year to reconsider it. With kids eligible for a free Dining Plan when adults purchase the dining plan, hotel discounts may free up enough room in the budget to make the numbers finally work. For families with children, that can mean a set food budget in advance without worrying about adding up costs. Instead of tracking every receipt or debating every snack purchase, some families may find that combining hotel discounts with the Dining Plan simplifies budgeting even if it doesn’t technically lower the total cost. Columbia Harbour House Book Something Special With the hotel savings, guests could use that money to do more magical experiences. You could finally do the Fireworks Dessert Party you’ve wanted to do. Maybe you want to splurge on souvenirs or head to an After Hours Event. You could also add a tour to your itinerary, like Wild Africa Trek, Caring for Giants, or Behind the Seeds Tour. Halloween Fireworks Dessert Party for Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular If you are looking into taking advantage of these savings, it can open up new possibilities for your Disney World trip. 4. The EPCOT Festival of the Arts has officially kicked off, and we were there on day one to get you all the food booth reviews, as well as all the details you need about festival activities, entertainment, and more! Gâteau de Crabe, Bisque de Homard, Crème Citron et Aneth If you plan on visiting the festival, though, you might want to use Disney Dining Plan snack credits to pay for some of those food booth eats. Well, we’ve put together a list of the best festival snacks to get if you’re using those snack credits that will give you the most value for your buck. Yes, in case you were wondering, you can use those Disney Dining Plan snack credits for some items at the festival booths. You’ll see the Disney Dining Plan logo beside the eligible items on each booth’s menu. But you want to be smart in how you use those credits to get the most out of what you paid for the dining plan. So here are the top snacks to use your credits on at this year’s festival. Look for the DDP logo on each menu board Let’s start in Canada, with Gourmet Landscapes. You’ll want to grab the plant-based Wild Mushroom Risotto with aged Parmesan, truffle shavings, and zinfandel reduction. This has often been one of our favorite things to eat at this booth. It’s creamy, salty, earthy, and delicious. It’s also $9.79, so you’re getting a good deal with a snack credit. Wild Mushroom Risotto You’ll want to order something else at this booth, too, the Roasted Bone Marrow with onion marmalade, pickled mushrooms, and petite lettuce. This is one of the more unique offerings at the festival, and basically, you’re just supposed to spoon out the marrow and spread it over the bread. You get a nice salty flavor at the start, with a sweet flavor aftertaste. Its price is $10.79, so this is one of the best deals you can get at the festival if you’re using snack credits. Roasted Bone Marrow France always has one of our favorite food booths, L’Art de la Cuisine Francaise. You’ll find good value with your snack credits there by ordering the Crème de Brie en Petit Pain, which is warm, creamy brie in a house-made bread bowl for $10.25. This is a festival classic and a favorite for good reason. It’s melty cheese and bread…and really, is there anything better? Crème de Brie en Petit Pain You can also grab the Gâteau de Crabe, Bisque de Homard, Crème Citron et Aneth, which is a crab cake, lobster bisque, and lemon-dill sour cream. The crab meat is sweet and delicate with a lightly seasoned buttery flavor. The lobster bisque is rich and velvety. It’s $11.95, so it’s definitely worth the cost of a snack credit. Gâteau de Crabe, Bisque de Homard, Crème Citron et Aneth Pop by Italy to visit L’Arte di Mangiare to pick up the very fun Mozzarella Fritta, which is lash-fried breaded fresh mozzarella with artist palette condiments for $9.50. It’s breaded and fried cheese with little dipping sauces, and it’s as delicious as it is cute. It’s also a no-brainer if you’re using Disney Dining Plan snack credits. Mozzarella Fritta Over near the American Adventure Pavilion, you’ll find The Artist’s Table booth. There, you’ll want to use a snack credit for the Peppercorn-crusted Striploin with grilled asparagus, potatoes au gratin, and au poivre butter. This is classic steak and asparagus, but it’s done to perfection. The meat is cooked medium and is thinly sliced. That peppercorn adds a ton of flavor. The asparagus has a nice snap. And there are even potatoes, too. And with this snack costing $9.29, you’re getting a LOT out of that Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Peppercorn-crusted Striploin Over in China, you’ll find The Painted Panda. Be sure to order the General Tso’s Chicken Shumai, which features dumplings filled with chicken, asparagus, onion, and water chestnuts topped with General Tso’s sauce. The infusion of the vegetables with the chicken in this dumpling is so nice, and the water chestnut adds a nice crunch. Add the saltiness of the soy, and you’ve got a solid dish. It’s $10.75, so be sure to use that snack credit. General Tso’s Chicken Shumai Mexico is always a big hit with us, but to get more bang for your buck with the Disney Dining Plan, you’ll want to visit El Artista Hambriento and order the Tostada de Cangrejo, a crispy corn tortilla topped with guacamole, lump crab, mango, crispy onions, and hot sauce. This was our favorite item at the booth this year because it had a great mixture of textures and flavors. It’s regularly $9.50, but it’s “free” if you use a snack credit, right? Tostada de Cangrejo Our best tip for using dining credits at the festival is to do your research first and see what’s a good price, as well as what you know you would enjoy eating. 6. Construction is ALL OVER Disney World right now, as you likely very well know due to the walls practically everywhere, but we’re also keeping a close eye on how construction is going, because it gets us excited for what’s to come. @bioreconstruct on X Over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, two different lands are under major construction — Animation Courtyard is becoming The Walt Disney Studios, and Muppets Courtyard will be a new land themed to Monsters, Inc. We just got a look at how construction is going in both lands from a bird’s eye view, and we’re VERY excited! Starting over in The Walt Disney Studios, thanks to @bioreconstruct, we’re able to see that concrete demolition is underway in certain parts of the land to make way for new additions. @bioreconstruct on X We can also see that concrete forms are being worked on, and some concrete has already been cast closer to the Disney Jr. show building. The show, Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, will be new to Disney World, with it already running over in Disneyland. It’s kind of funny to see the Mickey Mouse banner looking over the construction — I guess he wants to keep a close eye on it! @bioreconstruct on X We’re so happy to see that things are moving along so well. This land is currently expected to reopen in time for summer this year, so let’s hope things keep moving along at this quick pace. While it’s definitely coming along, it’s hard believe we could be a few months away from this opening. Considering it just looks like a dirt lot, and we have no idea what’s happening inside the Magic of Disney Animation, let’s cross our fingers that everything is moving as it should. There are a LOT of projects happening in 2026, so we’re just hoping everything is sticking to its timeline. @bioreconstruct on X We’ve also got an update on the new Monsters, Inc. Land coming to the former home of Muppets Courtyard, and one of the first things noticed was that all PizzeRizzo signage is now officially gone. Most recently, the sign on the roof was removed. @bioreconstruct on X However, further into the land, it looks like some theming from Muppets Courtyard still remains, so it appears Disney hasn’t been as focused on removing that signage just yet. @bioreconstruct on X The biggest update, though? Take a look at the area for the new show building that will hold the roller coaster in this land — it’s MASSIVE! @bioreconstruct on X Disney is working on concrete right now, but you can also see where concrete forms are on top of the floor. Earlier sections and conduits are being buried in sand, hence the difference in color seen below. We cannot BELIEVE the scale of this thing — and if it looks this big from the sky, we can only imagine what it’ll be like walking up to it in person. @bioreconstruct on X The hanging door roller coaster will be the first of its kind for Disney World and will let you enter the world of Monstropolis with Mike and Sulley. 7. It’s been another big week for Disney news, and we are here to make sure you are always up-to-date on the latest Disney happenings! We are in the parks every single day, and we are always on the lookout for Disney news. We have been busy this week trying new treats at Disneyland, reviewing three new savory waffles at Disney Springs, trying out new treats in Magic Kingdom, feasting on a GIANT crepe in EPCOT, and more. Le Bete de Crepe or The Beast Crepe That is not all that happened this week in the world of Disney, though! We are rounding up three of the biggest announcements and happenings this week, so let’s dive in! Updates Coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Starting April 29th, Disney is expanding the timeline for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland to include more Star Wars eras, unlocking it in the biggest way yet. There will be new characters, updated stores and merchandise, and even updated music! They’re rolling back the timeline several decades to include characters and storylines from The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka. With the updates, guests will experience the Galactic Civil War and the New Republic, as well as the Age of the Resistance and the First Order. Batuu is CHANGING Character Updates New characters will be coming to Galaxy’s Edge. Darth Vader’s search for Luke Skywalker will bring him to Batuu, joined by Imperial Stormtroopers. Leia Organa and Han Solo will also be reunited with Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca in Batuu. Beginning April 29, 2026, visitors to Batuu may find Darth Vader, Imperial Stormtroopers, and other iconic Star Wars characters inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., as the land expands its timeline to include more Star Wars eras. (Christian Thompson/Disneyland Resort) Ahsoka Tano, plus The Mandalorian and Grogu, will be near the marketplace. R2-D2 will continue to roll through the land near Droid Depot and the garage, and Rey will be found around the Resistance Camp. In addition, the Disney Visa meet-and-greet that was formerly home to Darth Vader will now be home to Kylo Ren! Store Updates First Order Cargo will become Black Spire Surplus, a military salvage operation with artifacts from across the history of the galaxy, including Imperial and Rebel items from the Galactic Civil War. Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will display a different array of one-of-a-kind items from its past, changing with the times. First Order Cargo An earlier generation of the Mubo family will now be operating Droid Depot, where you’ll find prototypes of BB-style droids. You might even catch Luke Skywalker meeting with Savi in his search for information on lightsabers and the Force at Savi’s Workshop. Music Updates Battuu will also sound a bit different. Beloved scores from the iconic composer John Williams will make their way to Galaxy’s Edge. The “Main Title” and “Force Theme” will beckon you to a galaxy far, far away. As you wander through the land, you’ll hear motifs from other classic tracks, including “Han Solo and the Princess,” “The Desert and the Robot Auction,” “The Emperor,” and more. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge And of course, the lively tune “Cantina Band” will be heard from within Oga’s Cantina. In the era of the Galactic Civil War, proprietor Oga Garra only recently opened this watering hole, which is already becoming a popular spot for intergalactic travelers. As of now, these changes are only slated for Disneyland’s version of Galaxy’s Edge, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for any updates at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as well. Disney Announces MAJOR Changes for Galaxy’s Edge EPCOT International Festival of the Arts Has Started EPCOT’s first festival of the year officially started on January 16th! The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts runs through February 23rd. Of course, we stopped by on opening day to experience everything the festival has to offer. It may be short, but this festival is always such a good time. It celebrates three artistic disciplines: the Culinary, Visual, and Performing Arts. Throughout the festival, you can experience so many opportunities to experience the arts, from carefully crafted dishes at the Food Studios to Broadway performers in the Disney on Broadway Concert Series. El Artista Hambriento Food Studio We ate and drank our way through every Food Studio and also experienced the special festival activities. We have reviews for every single booth on our blog, plus a round-up of the best of the fest. You can also check out our coverage of the festival activities and tune into our YouTube channel for a video covering everything you need to know about the festival. The owner of Gideon’s Bakehouse, Steve Lewis, will open a new concept, Six Ravens, in Disney Springs. The eatery will be a “fast casual celebration of savory.” It is expected to open mid-year in The Landing, just a few doors down from Gideon’s Bakehouse. The menu will feature brand-new options, including hand-pie sandwiches called coffyns and housemade yeast rolls with fillings that support local. ©Six Ravens We had spotted new art where Six Ravens will be located (which was formerly home to Art of Shaving), and now we know what will be moving into the space! Six Ravens will be offering savory delights in collaboration with Central Florida chefs, and we can’t wait. New window art! We are excited to try the savory options from Steve Lewis, and you already know we will be among the first in line when this new restaurant opens! A NEW Restaurant Is Coming to Disney Springs! 8. Southwest Airlines has officially decided to become just like everyone else. ©Southwest Airlines Flying Southwest used to mean something different (open seating, boarding by number, and the freedom to snag whatever seat you wanted once you got on the plane). But starting January 27th, all of that is changing in a big way, and if you’re a frequent Southwest flyer, you need to know what’s coming. Say Goodbye to Your Boarding Number Here’s the deal: Southwest is ditching its iconic open seating system on January 27th. Instead of getting a boarding number and racing to grab your favorite seat, you’ll now be assigned a specific seat when you book your flight. So yes, just like Delta, United, American, and literally every other airline out there. Goodbye boarding numbers For decades, Southwest’s boarding process was simple. You’d check in, get your boarding number, line up in numerical order, and then pick whatever open seat you wanted when you boarded. That system is now officially extinct. The New Seating Categories Southwest has divided its airplane into three seating categories, and where you sit depends on how much you’re willing to pay. Extra Legroom is the premium option. These seats have additional legroom (think exit rows and forward cabin seats), and passengers in this category board first in Groups 1 and 2. Naturally, these are the priciest seats on the plane. Preferred Seats are your middle-tier option. You’ll get standard legroom in the forward and middle sections of the cabin. This group boards in Groups 3 through 5, so you’re not first, but you’re not last either. These seats cost less than Extra Legroom but more than Standard. Standard Seats are the most affordable option, but they come with a catch. You’ll be sitting in whatever’s left after the Extra Legroom and Preferred passengers have taken their picks. That usually means middle and rear cabin seats, and yes, a lot of middle seats. This group boards last in Groups 6 through 8. ©Southwest How Boarding Works Now Instead of lining up in precise numerical order like we used to, Southwest will now call boarding groups just like other airlines do. Your boarding pass will show your assigned boarding group, and you’ll board when your group is called. MCO airport The good news? Boarding might actually be a bit more chill since you don’t have to stress about finding your exact spot in a numbered line. The bad news? If you’re in a later boarding group, you’re stuck with whatever seat you were assigned, no swapping allowed. Elite Status and Credit Card Perks If you have status with Southwest or one of their credit cards, there are some benefits worth knowing about. A-List Preferred members can snag free Extra Legroom seats, while A-List members get free Preferred Seat selection. Not bad if you fly Southwest regularly and have racked up that status. Southwest credit card holders get one free checked bag, which is a nice perk since Southwest eliminated free checked bags for everyone else. Credit card holders are also guaranteed to be in boarding group 5, so you won’t end up in the back of the boarding pack. Changes for Passengers Needing Extra Space Southwest has also updated its policy for passengers who need more than one seat. In the past, these passengers didn’t have to buy a second seat in advance. Southwest would provide additional seats when available, and passengers could request refunds after their flight. Southwest Airlines at John Wayne International Airport Starting January 27th, passengers requiring extra space must purchase an additional seat and pay any applicable seat fees before boarding. Refunds are still possible after travel, but only if both seats are in the same fare class, the request is made within 90 days, and the plane had at least one open seat. There’s a small exception if the flight was full but had seats reserved for off-duty employees. The Bottom Line Look, if you’ve flown with other airlines recently, none of this will surprise you. Southwest is basically adopting the same policies that United, Delta, and American have had for years. The days of Southwest being the quirky airline with the different boarding system are over. Southwest at MCO Is it the end of an era? Absolutely. Will it make flying Southwest feel less special? Probably. But at least now you know exactly what to expect when you book your next flight after January 27th. In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for more travel updates and tips! “Hate the New Changes.” Fans Are NOT Ready for This HUGE Southwest Airlines Change Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 9. There is a lot of construction happening in Disney World right now. Magic Kingdom is getting an expansion, a new land, and two updated rides. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a new land and an updated area. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is getting a new land. Disney’s Port Orleans — Riverside There’s a lot of construction happening at Disney World hotels, too, including lobby updates and room overhauls. When construction needs to happen, Disney must first file a permit for that work, which gives us an idea of what the company will work on next. We’ve recently seen two new permits filed for construction at hotels, while a third permit has been filed for a popular Magic Kingdom store. Let’s take a closer look at these three permits: Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside The first permit is for work at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside. Now, we’re already aware that the hotel is currently undergoing a lot of work throughout its property, and that this work is expected to continue through August 2027. The permit is for “Mechanical,” which generally means things like heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Construction from June 2025 at Port Orleans — Riverside So, from what we can surmise from the permit, Riverside will be getting an updated heating, ventilation, and A/C system. The contractor is W.W. Gay, a company that does work with everything from plumbing to HVAC, and more. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Villas The second permit is for Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Villas and is for “general construction,” which could mean just about anything. Disney World began working on refurbishments throughout the resort in November, and the work is expected to continue throughout 2026. BoardWalk Inn This new permit is probably for a continuation of that work. The contractor is DPR Construction, which specializes in hospitality projects, aka working on hotels. Sir Mickey’s Now, let’s talk about the work in Magic Kingdom. Sir Mickey’s is a popular store in Magic Kingdom, which sits just behind Cinderella Castle. A new permit was filed to install a “knee,” which is a 6-foot-high interior wall inside the store. Sir Mickey’s Gift Shop The contractor for the work is JCQ Services, which built the new DVC cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more permits and signs of construction in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB to stay updated. 10. EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts may be the most unique of the park’s trademark festivals, but in some ways, it may be too unique for its own good. Festival of the Arts First held in 2017, the Festival of the Arts takes place in late January and early February each year — the 2026 edition runs from January 16th through February 23rd — and features amazing artwork, unique entertainment, and some really cool eats! We love the Festival of the Arts thanks to the unique vibes it brings to EPCOT. In fact, we might love it just a bit too much. During the Festival of the Arts run, EPCOT is practically bursting at the seams with vibrant displays of artistic talents, including: Appearances from artists and Imagineers who will have their work on hand to sell and sign. Food Studios throughout the park – including international flavors spread through World Showcase – that serve exclusive “colorful fare that paints an exquisite picture of gastronomical perfection.” The Disney on Broadway Concert Series, which features Broadway performers performing selections from Aladdin, Frozen, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Tarzan, Newsies, and other shows at the America Gardens theater three times a day. The America Gardens Theater will also feature the Animation Academy, twice daily show where you can learn to draw Disney characters from a real Disney animator. A paint-by-numbers mural. Visual art performances. Artistic photo ops. Musical performances A Disney Lorcana card game collection quest. Figment Fantasy Cake ©Disney Suffice to say, there is. A LOT for fans of Disney art (GUILTY) to love. So what’s the issue? The fest is short. As noted above, 2026’s Festival of the Arts is running from January 16th to February 23rd — a scant 39 days. Darren Wilson with his Nightmare Before Christmas piece in 2025 That not only makes it hard for many guests to make it to the fest, but it also means that the art installations that bring so much life to the park disappear quickly, leaving things feeling somewhat empty. Of course, EPCOT has its other festivals — the 2026 Flower and Garden Festival launches March 4th and lasts all the way until June 1st. Nate Baranowski making chalk magic in 2025 The Festival of the Arts is one of EPCOT’s most unique events of the year, bringing a splash of color and whimsy to the park. However, the festival’s short length leaves the park feeling just a bit empty when it finishes. Stay tuned to DFB for more takes on Disney’s biggest events. 11. Disney souvenirs don’t have to come with park prices or require you to stuff one more fragile item into your suitcase. We love our Owala water bottle! Some of our favorite Disney finds lately are coming straight from Amazon, Target, and BoxLunch, and honestly, they feel just as special as anything you would grab on Main Street, U.S.A. These are the kinds of souvenirs that you will actually use, display, or snuggle with long after your trip is over. We rounded up seven of our current favorites that Disney fans cannot seem to get enough of right now. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Owala Disney Princess FreeSip Water Bottle Rapunzel Owala This Owala FreeSip bottle is one of our top picks because it is genuinely practical and seriously cute. The Rapunzel design gives subtle Disney Princess energy without feeling over the top. You can sip through the built-in straw or tilt it back to drink from the wide mouth opening, which is ideal when you are juggling snacks, bags, and life in general. It keeps drinks cold for up to 24 hours, fits in cup holders, and the locking lid helps prevent bag disasters. Staying hydrated has never looked so good. View on Amazon Touchland & Disney Special Edition Hand Sanitizer + Mist Case Touchland and Disney Special Edition Hand Sanitizer + Mist Case This one feels like a tiny Disney flex. The Touchland hand sanitizer already has a cult following, and this Disney collaboration takes it up a notch. The set comes with the Wild Watermelon sanitizer and a classic Mickey Mouse mist case that looks more like an accessory than something practical. It is slim, easy to toss into a park bag or purse, and honestly just fun to pull out. It makes constant hand sanitizing feel way less boring. View on Amazon LEGO Ideas Disney Pixar Luxo Jr. Luxo Lamp Jr. LEGO Pixar fans, this one is for you. The LEGO Ideas Luxo Jr. set is a display piece that instantly sparks nostalgia. It’s character-shaped, plush, and perfect for kids who want something cuddly in their room. It pairs beautifully with Rapunzel-themed bedding, but it also works as a standalone stuffed buddy. It is soft, lightweight, and made with kid-friendly materials, which makes it a win for both parents and little Disney fans. View on Target LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 ©Target R2-D2 might be one of the most lovable characters in the galaxy, and this LEGO set captures that perfectly. Designed for kids ages 10 and up, it still has plenty of appeal for adult collectors, too. With a rotating head, attachable third leg, tools, and even a display plaque, this set doubles as a play piece and a display item. The included 25th Anniversary minifigure is a nice bonus for longtime Star Wars fans. View on Target Disney Pocahontas Retro Quilted Blanket ©BoxLunch We are obsessed with this Pocahontas quilted blanket. The retro print gives it a throwback feel that stands out from typical character merch. It is cozy, generously sized, and perfect for movie nights or adding a pop of Disney to your couch. 12. Epic Universe has been open for under a year over at Universal Orlando, but the park has been VERY popular ever since its opening date, and that means that some rides may need some TLC already. Fyre Drill In both Universal and Disney parks, we often see their water rides go under refurbishment during the winter months when they’re not as popular due to the cold weather. Epic Universe just announced one of its first ride refurbishments since the park opened in May 2025, so if you love Fyre Drill, you’ll be without it for about a week in February! On the Universal Orlando website, Fyre Drill is now listed to be temporarily closed from February 1st to 7th, 2026. There’s no reason or cause listed for this closure, but our assumption is, again, just like lots of other water rides around the resort, it will close to fix up the minor issues it’s sustained during its many months of running, to make sure it continues running well for the remainder of the year. Fyre Drill Fyre Drill is a water boat attraction located in Isle of Berk. The story is that Ruffnut and Tuffnut have transformed Berk’s Fyre Skööl into an interactive boat battle. You’ll board your boat and blast your water cannons at flame-like targets, as well as the other boats around you! If you hit special targets, the other boat will get soaked with additional water! So fun! You will NOT leave this ride without getting soaked, and if you’re worried about your items, you can place them in safe, waterproof containers at either end of the boat. During winter, we haven’t seen it jump above 5 minutes on colder days (and rarely have seen it jump above 15-20 minutes even on warmer days during this season. When I was just in Epic this week, no one was on it basically all day — it was COLD, so people didn’t want to be soaking wet AND freezing. 13. Animal Kingdom is getting a new Tropical Americas land, and we can’t wait! But unfortunately, we’ve had to say goodbye to our beloved Dinoland, U.S.A., which will close permanently on February 2nd, 2026. Construction is already underway where the Boneyard playground and Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama previously stood, and we have some new construction updates! ©Disney The two rides currently under construction are an animal-themed carousel and an Encanto ride. Some new aerial photos by @bioreconstruct on X, formerly known as Twitter, show just how fast construction is progressing in the area. In new aerial construction photos, we can see that construction on the exterior of the Encanto ride is in full swing. On the top right corner of the image below is the building for the ride, which will be transformed into the Madrigal family home. They’ve already made lots of progress with foundation and beam structures. ©bioreconstruct On the bottom left corner of the photo is the new animal-themed carousel. You’ll be able to ride on iconic Disney animals from Winnie the Pooh, Finding Nemo, and Bambi. They’ve already started pouring concrete, but there isn’t any new update on the structure just yet. The green line between the two areas is the walking path to DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus in the back of Dinoland U.S.A. ©bioreconstruct In the above photo, you can see just how large the ride building for Encanto will be. The yellow arrow is what Bioreconstruct thinks will be the start of the queue for the attraction. Let’s hope it’s not for the sake of our feet! It does look like a queue entrance with a concrete barrier around the ride’s exterior. ©Disney From Disney’s concept art, it looks like guests will enter the home from the courtyard to the right in an outdoor queue, and it lines up with the construction photos above. Construction updates have been increasing rapidly, so we’re sure we’ll know soon. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for the next Encanto update! EXPANSION NEWS! 17. Early mornings in Disney World can be TOUGH, no matter how intense the magic is, and sometimes you just need some Starbucks to start your day. Starbucks in Disney World Now, we’re big fans of Joffrey’s too, don’t get us wrong, but sometimes you just want that classic Starbucks taste. If you get Starbucks often, you may have heard about a certain viral drink that’s been gaining popularity pretty quickly. It’s a Crème Brûlée–inspired secret menu drink, and now we know how to order it during your next vacation, or when you’re visiting your local Starbucks at home. The Crème Brûlée–inspired secret menu item is taking the world by storm, and now we know exactly how you can order it at your local Starbucks. @mouthattack on Instagram Now, for this hack, you’re going to need to be patient, because it does involve Crème Brûlée sauce, and that’s not always available at all stores or all times of year. However, you can save it for when your store has it in stock again, which we recommend! You’ll want to order a Venti Iced Shaken Espresso, and then make it a Blonde Espresso, no Classic Syrup, add Crème Brûlée sauce, replace the 2% milk with vanilla sweet cream, and you can finalize it with whipped topping and Crème Brûlée topping, if you’d like. @mouthattack on Instagram Again, because this is so popular, you may notice that it’ll take a while to be able to complete this hack, but we suggest saving it for a rainy day! Especially once the fad of it has worn off a bit, you’ll likely have an easier time grabbing it. This may especially be true for Disney World, because of how popular the parks are each and every day. 18. Disneyland’s Star Wars area is getting a massive upgrade! Galaxy’s Edge is a Star Wars-themed land on both the East and West Coasts, and they’ve been very similar. You’ll explore Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu that the First Order has overtaken. You can meet Kylo Ren and his Stormtroopers, ride the Millennium Falcon with Chewbacca, and help Finn, Rey, and the Rebel Alliance take down the First Order. Both lands have been set during the sequel trilogy – until now! Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge While Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World will stay the same, the West Coast’s Disneyland area will be completely rethemed to be set during the original trilogy. This means new characters from “A New Hope,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Return of the Jedi” will be roaming around the park. But how will these changes impact the characters currently in Galaxy’s Edge? On the First Order side of Galaxy’s Edge, Darth Vader will appear in a rethemed Galactic Empire stronghold with Stormtroopers in tow. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren will be moved to the Disney Visa Cardholder lounge in Tomorrowland outside of Star Wars Launch Bay. This means that Ben Solo will exclusively meet and greet with guests with a Chase Disney Visa. Kylo Ren in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge We’ve seen Darth Vader before, but not in Galaxy’s Edge every day, and we’re SO excited to see this villain come to life. Sure, we love our heroes whohave saved the galaxy, but sometimes we can’t pass on a villain! (Christian Thompson/Disneyland Resort) As for other sequel trilogy characters, the forested rebel base half of Galaxy’s Edge will remain in the sequel timeline. Rey, BB-8, and Vi Moradi will be moved near “Rise of the Resistance” instead of wandering in Black Spire Outpost. Chewbacca will continue to be seen around the Millennium Falcon, but will be joined by Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker. The Mandalorian and Grogu will move to the marketplace area along with parks newcomer Ahsoka Tano. R2-D2 remains unaffected and will roam between both areas. Chewbacca in Galaxy’s Edge Disney has introduced rare character meet-and-greets with Padme Amidala and Boba Fett, but the characters were only for special events. With a timeline expansion, we might see more characters visiting Galaxy’s Edge in the future. These updates to Disneyland will begin on April 29th, 2026, just in time for a “May The Fourth Be With You” trip. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more Galaxy’s Edge updates! 19. Tangierine Cafe – Flavors of the Medina is one of those Festival booths that rarely surprises us, but still serves up solid eats for every EPCOT festival. Tangierine Café We’re live at the 2026 EPCOT Festival of the Arts, checking out the food studios, artistic performances, merchandise, and more. There’s a LOT going on, but don’t let it overwhelm you. We’re here to tell you everything you need to know before your visit. Let’s go to the Tangierine Cafe: Flavors of the Medina and see what’s cooking this year. Eats Our first item is the new-to-this-Festival Moroccan Wrap with tomato-cucumber relish and garlic sauce served on warm Moroccan flatbread that you can get filled with your choice of Chermoula Chicken, plant-based Falafel, or Moroccan-spiced lamb. This dish is $6.29 or a snack credit on the Dining Plan. This wrap was a change that we welcomed, but we do miss the kebabs. The kebabs were a little more friendly to picky eaters, whereas this is a little hard for picky eaters to pick certain things out. We appreciate that they made the wrap very easy to walk around with without anything spilling out. Moroccan Wrap with Chermoula Chicken The chicken was FANTASTIC! You can taste that it was grilled with that charring and smokiness to it. It doesn’t have a lot of seasoning, but you get the flavor from the sauce. The veggies pair beautifully with the chicken. Up next, we ordered the Stone-baked Moroccan Bread with assorted dips for $5.25, or a snack credit on the Dining Plan. Stone-Baked Bread with assorted dips This is more of a pita bread consistency, and less like that “inflated balloon” look and feel that it has been the past couple of years. We were happy to see that they changed that! This is so good! The dips are good — they had a nutty and common hummus… Hummus …chimichurri… Chimichurri …and a spicier third dip. This ones got a kick! Feel free to experiment with them; we discovered we liked mixing all three! Try the dip! Drinks The best way to sample the 3 hard ciders on this year’s menu is by ordering the Hard Cider Flight for $12.75. This flight includes the 3 hard ciders for this year: Rekorderlig Strawberry-Lime Hard Cider Keel Farms Blueberry Lavender Hard Cider Blake’s Hard Cider Co. Pomegranate Fizz Hard Cider (New) Hard Cider Flight The Hard Cider Flight consistently is one of our favorites of the festival! The strawberry lime was more notable, aromatic, and had a strawberry smell and taste. You can get a hint of that lime, but it’s more of a tangy lime, giving the cider a bit of a zing. So if you’re looking for a strawberry cider with a kick, this is the thing for you! Rekorderlig Strawberry-Lime Hard Cider The blueberry lavender is also one that you’re gonna smell before you actually taste it. You can get that blueberry in the initial, but it tastes very floral. If you’re not super into lavender, you probably won’t be a big fan of this one, and its aroma may catch you by surprise. You just have to really appreciate that lavender taste along with that smell. Keel Farms Blueberry Lavender Hard Cider Last, we tried the Pomegranate Fizz, which was fine. We don’t feel like we got a whole lot of pomegranate notes to it, and maybe that was by design. It just really tastes like a regular hard cider. You kind of have to mow it around a little bit to really get that pomegranate flavor. Overall, we still found this one really good! Blake’s Hard Cider Co. Pomegranate Fizz Hard Cider If you’re just looking to sample one of the hard ciders alone, they’re priced at $6.00 for a 6-oz and $9.75 for a 12-oz. OVERALL This is just a solid and consistent spot to hit during the festival. You can never go wrong with the bread, and the cider flight and wrap are great options as well. Even if you say you’ve had it before, we guarantee you’ll find yourself back here. Guess what, we don’t blame you! It’s just that good and comforting! Here’s our spread! 21. Disney World is VERY expensive, but fortunately, there are often discounts you can take advantage of to lower the cost of your stay. This is especially true if you’re planning to stay on property! Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Disney recently announced some new discounts that are fantastic for saving money, but did you know that there are some deals you can stack? It’s not all of them, but we’re here to walk you through exactly which of Disney’s new deals can be stacked with others, and what ones are only available to be used on their own — let’s save you some money! The first of Disney’s newest hotel deals can save you up to 30% on select Disney Resort hotels for stays most nights from May 1st through October 4th, 2026 for 5 or more consecutive nights, and up to 25% for stays of 1 to 4 consecutive nights. The key here is to go into the fine print of the deal, where it specifically says, “Cannot be combined with any other discount or promotion, except for the 2026 Kids Dining Plan Offer.” Disney’s BoardWalk Hotel In fact, the same is true for Disney’s other new deals, which are : Florida Residents can save up to 35% on stays of 4 nights or longer from May 1st to July 29th, 2026 Annual Passholders can save up to 40% on rooms at select Disney Resort hotels this summer The Add Free Days to Your Stay Deal, where you can get two free room nights and theme park days when you purchase a select 4-night, 4-day (or longer) Walt Disney Travel Company room and ticket package All of these discounts can only be combined with the 2026 Kids Dining Plan Offer, but for those of you traveling with kids aged 3-9, this can lock in HUGE savings for you. Disney’s Pop Century But what IS the 2026 Kids Dining Plan Offer, you ask? Well, when you purchase a Walt Disney Travel Company package for you and your children that includes a room at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel and a dining plan for each Guest ages 10 and up, you’ll get a Kids Dining Plan FOR FREE! That means your kiddo could basically be dining for free each day of your vacation, and those are huge savings. Now, kids do have to choose from the Kids’ Menu, when it’s available, and if you purchase the Quick Service Dining Plan, your kiddo will get a free Quick Service Dining Plan as well (and the same can be said for the regular dining plan). You do NOT have to book the more expensive dining plan just to get this deal. Disney Dining Plan symbols Whenever you’re looking into discounts, we always encourage reading that fine print to see if it can be combined with anything else. 22. If you’ve been to Universal Orlando, then odds are you’ve ridden the Hogwarts Express. The iconic train connects the Harry Potter area, Diagon Alley in Universal Studios, to Islands of Adventure’s Hogsmeade. It’s not just a transportation method; it’s a ride in and of itself. Look out the windows to see some of your favorite characters alongside the train path. It’s the most fun way to park-hop! Hogwarts Express But we have some news – the Hogwarts Express is closing next month, starting on Monday, February 9th, 2026. Here’s everything you need to know and how to get around during the closure! The Hogwarts Express will be temporarily closed in both parks from February 9th to February 23rd. The closure is for routine maintenance to improve the ride and make sure it runs smoothly. It will reopen for guests on February 24th, 2026. The Hogwarts Express has seen many closures recently due to the complex nature of the attraction. The ride closed 3 times alone last year in May, September, and December. If you want to ride the Hogwarts Express during the closure, you can still see a train car in Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure. You can take pictures and even talk to the train conductor! To find the train, head to “Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure”, and the train will be in the alcove behind the ride’s lockers. Hogwarts Express To park-hop between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure during the closure, you will have to leave the park through the main entrance and walk to the other park. The parks are close together, and it’s about a 5-minute walk from one main entrance to the other. Reminder, the Hogwarts Express will only be down from February 9th to February 23rd and reopen on February 24th. In the meantime, happy park-hopping!
