One of our favorite spots, Beaches and Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, will be closing in August for a three month refurbishment. Beaches and Cream The super popular restaurant is primarily known for ice cream (especially the Famous Kitchen Sink and even boozy shakes for adults), but it’s also a great place to grab a burger, grilled cheese, and other diner favorites. Beaches and Cream Adult Shakes and Floats at Beaches & Cream Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup Disney World Guest Services has confirmed that Beaches & Cream is slated for a reopening sometime in December. And guests looking for ice cream will want to know that there will be a satellite ice cream location set up at the Yacht & Beach Club (though it is not anticipated that the Kitchen Sink will be one of the options). Our weekly visit to Epcot includes a bunch of construction updates — including seeing part of the track for the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride! All that change means they need to do some work on World Showcase’s islands. The Epcot International Festival of the Arts will run through February 25, which means there’s plenty of time left to enjoy everything the festival has to offer – including some of the can’t-miss seminars offered at the Odyssey Festival Showplace. This year’s seminar lineup includes art seminars in everything from photography to pop-up book design, as well as deep dives into different aspects of Disney history, including traditional Disney animation, 3D storytelling at Walt Disney World and more. Earlier this month, Jeff Kurtti, author and Disney historian, appeared at the festival to discuss his new book, Travels With Walt, which features rare and never-before-published photographs along with eyewitness recollections and anecdotes detailing Walt’s frequent excursions around the globe. Tangaroa Terrace in Disneyland Hotel closed to begin a rather lengthy refurbishment in September 2018. Following the closure, Disney announced that the space would reopen in early 2019 as Tangaroa Terrace, Tropical Bar and Grill. Tangaroa Terrace Though an official reopening date has not yet been announced, we have noticed hours listed on the Tangaroa Terrace page on the Disneyland website coming up again for this coming Tuesday, February 5th, from 6:30 AM – 11:00 PM. Alien Pizza Planet is getting into the spirit of Get Your Ears On with three specialty items — two winners and a dud. Our Disneyland correspondent (HI!, @DiningInDisney!), give us the a slice of the action. Alien Pizza Planet First up: the Buffalo Chicken Pizza. This is pizza topped with fried chicken breast bits, Buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, fresh carrots and celery, and a creamy Buffalo sauce. Buffalo Chicken Pizza We appreciate the creativity of putting literal fresh veggies on top of the pizza, but looking at it, we’re definitely missing some of the sauces they claim are on it. Maybe some creamy ranch would help? Buffalo Chicken Pizza While our taste-testers were a bit divided on this one, nobody thought it was a must-get. Heather says there’s no definitive reason why this doesn’t work, but for her, it’s one of the least successful dishes of the celebration so far! Bummer! We say skip the Buffalo Chicken Pizza and go for the Bowtie Pasta instead. Both of our taste-testers loved this one! The sauce is a blush sauce — creamy tomato, basically — and the dish includes some flavorful sausage and balls of mozzarella (like Minnie’s polka dots!). Plus: Bowtie Bread! It’s delicious and cute! Bowtie Pasta The sweet Get Your Ears On treat here is the S’mores Parfait. This is a photogenic dessert — and tasty, too! S’mores Parfait Even the little green men are into it. S’mores Parfait The S’mores Parfait consists of layers of chocolate pudding, chocolate cake, tons of marshmallow filling, graham crackers, and thick chocolate ganache. S’mores Parfait It’s topped with graham cracker crumbs, chocolate chips, whipped cream, and a toasted marshmallow. It’s a pretty standard dessert, but done well and worth getting if you need a sweet treat. S’mores Parfait You can also pick up a Little Green Alien Straw and Backpack Clip here! S’mores Parfait All-in-all, Pizza Planet is a hit for Get Your Ears On (just avoid that, um, pizza part)! We hope the pasta and parfait stick around a little longer because they’re terrific! The new Pixar lamp shining atop the Pixar Pier marquee is really magical – it’s icing on the Pixar Pier cake and looked beautiful at dusk against a dramatic sky. Sunshine Seasons is one of our favorite quick service dining spots in Epcot. Located in Future World’s Land pavilion, Sunshine Seasons is known for serving up some fresh options that come right out of Living with the Land’s greenhouses, and we’ve found some great vegetarian and vegan options here over the years. Sunshine Seasons sign in The Land Pavilion And now there’s a little sweet love for those who eat a plant-based diet: a Vegan Cupcake! This cupcake is irresistible upon sight with its dripping dark chocolate and bright cherry. Vegan Cupcake So you know we had to try it right away. We’re happy to say that that giant mound of frosting on top is delicious — barely distinguishable from regular frosting! And the chocolate is thick, super-sweet fudge! Vegan Cupcake The cake was very moist and flavorful. And inside? That’s pineapple and coconut! Yum! The combo of sweet vanilla frosting, dark chocolate, and pineapple really works. The recently released book “Star Wars: Pirate’s Price” reveals some really cool info about some of the backstory for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge… including hints about what we could possibly expect from Oga’s Cantina! Galaxy’s Edge Concept Art © Disney Attractions Magazine has discussed five things they learned from the book “as shared by Quinn Roseboom.” (Hi, Quinn!!!) And here are just a few of the super fun tidbits! In addition to the scoop on why Hondo Ohnaka is in possession of the Millennium Falcon (ultimately giving us a chance to control the Falcon on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run when we land on the planet of Batuu), the book shares details about Oga’s Cantina. ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter These include that, “the tap handles of the bar are made of old, worn out technology and parts like droid arms and even an antique lightsaber hilt.” Oga’s Cantina © Disney And Oga’s Cantina is, of course, serving up some drinks in the book, along with some interesting eats! The Minnie Donut Ears made quite the splash when they arrived at Disneyland Resort a few weeks ago, and we’ve been waiting as patiently as possible for the sweet Ears to arrive in Walt Disney World… and now they’re here!
