When you think about fine pastries at Walt Disney World, you probably think of Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie in Epcot’s France, where napoleons and eclairs seem right at home. Or Amorette’s Patisserie, where everything is perfectly crafted into a work of art. But Trolley Car Café, the last bastion of pastries in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, has introduced new pastries that will transport you to France via Hollywood Boulevard. Trolley Car Cafe We spotted these new pastries this afternoon, and we had to share them with you ASAP. In addition to the usual brownies, cookies, and cupcakes available at Trolley Car, guests can now select from a Raspberry Napoleon, an Apple Almond Tart, Latte Cake, and a Chocolate Pecan Tart. You can see why we weren’t able to pick just one… New Pastries at Trolley Car Cafe The Raspberry Napoleon is a fantastic combination of sweet, tart raspberry buttercream and perfectly crispy puff pastry. Raspberry Napoleon This one impresses from first glance, the ribbon of pink buttercream really standing out and the vertical plating being really unusual. Raspberry Napoleon The pastry itself is packed with flaky layer upon flaky layer, and the buttercream in between those flakey layers is relatively thin. But that’s okay, because the large amount of frosting on top more than compensates. Raspberry Napoleon The garnish is simple on the Raspberry Napoleon: a powdered sugar-dusted fresh raspberry. If you don’t care for chocolate or overly heavy, sweet desserts, this is the option for you. Raspberry Napoleon The Latte Cake, on the other hand, offers chocolate and coffee connoisseurs a skillfully crafted sliver of cake that will totally satisfy. Latte Cake First, check out that mirror glaze! You can practically see your reflection in it, which is absolutely the point. Beneath the mirror glaze, layers of cream and cake create an architectural pastry masterpiece. Latte Cake The layers include vanilla and chocolate sponge cakes, pastry cream, and mousse atop a dense, dark chocolate cookie. The flavors are light and complementary, with the mirror glaze carrying the most chocolate flavor and the coffee mousse carrying the coffee. Latte Cake A single bite containing all five layers is a terrific play on flavors and textures. So good! Latte Cake The Chocolate Pecan Tart is a one of the more familiar pastries, perhaps, as we frequently see special desserts in tart shells at Walt Disney World. But the filling and garnishes set this one apart. Chocolate Pecan Tart The tart shell is even all around, thin and golden. There’s a satisfying crunch to it when you cut it. Garnishes include waves of chocolate ribbon, a swirl of chocolate buttercream, and crispy pearls. Chocolate Pecan Tart We’re already in love with the combo of chocolate and nuts, of course, and here they create great visual interest in addition to flavor contrast. (But beware: chocolate ribbon garnishes do tend to melt quickly in the heat of summer, so be prepared to dig in quickly on a hot day!) Chocolate Pecan Tart The inside of the tart is thick with chocolate that’s studded throughout with chopped pecans. Every bite contains a pecan — as it should! — and the dark chocolate is sweet without being cloying. The garnishes help add a bit more sweetness when you eat them all together. Chocolate Pecan Tart The second tart option in the Trolley Car Café case showcases slices of apple and dark, rich caramel. It’s an Apple Almond Tart, and it’s the choice for those who prefer apple desserts (like us — this was our favorite!). Apple Almond Tart First of all: caramel much? It’s dark, thick, and irresistible, coating the apple slices and providing a sweet/salty overlay to the whole tart. The almonds are finely chopped and attach with more thick caramel just around the edge of the tart. Apple Almond Tart But you get a lot more almond flavor once you get inside, where a frangipane fills the tart and imparts a sweet almond flavor. Apple Almond Tart We’re telling you: Trolley Car Café is now a destination for fine pastries. Who would’ve thought we’d be saying that, right? Since this is a Starbucks location, the lines do tend toward the slightly long (particularly in the morning and evening), but we’re telling you: it’s totally worth it! Move over Casey’s Corner corn dog nuggets — the BIG (corn)DOGS have arrived at Magic Kingdom’s Sleepy Hollow Refreshments! Foot-long Corn Dog Disney fans will remember when the hand-dipped corn dog came over to Sleepy Hollow in 2017. Sadly, after a short stint it was taken off the menu. We’re glad to say it’s back and bigger than ever! This thing is seriously HUGE — it’s almost as tall as Cinderella Castle! Foot-long Corn Dog Well, actually it’s just a foot long — that’s still pretty big, though, in the world of corn dogs! Sleepy Hollow Menu The new Sleepy Hollow Refreshments menu item is served with house made chips and will set you back $10.99. Inside Foot-long Corn Dog The batter is a nice golden color with a good crunch… . The sweetness-level is good, but we actually paired ours with Maple Syrup for extra sweetness and loved it! Foot-long Corn Dog Served with House Made Chips And the house made chips add a nice crispy touch to this jumbo-sized classic theme park meal. Foot Long Corn Dog While we still miss those hand-dipped corn dogs that made a short appearance at Sleepy Hollow last summer, we’re pretty happy with this new Magic Kingdom snack. NOTE: we purchased several of the original hand-dipped corn dogs and had varied experiences with them — some were great, but others were overdone and too crunchy and dry. We said goodbye to Tangaroa Terrace as we knew it last summer, and now we are ready to greet the newly refurbished location — there’s a new name, new decor, a new coffee window, and best of all — a NEW DOLE WHIP WINDOW! Welcome Back Tangaroa Terrace! Check out that new name! It’s subtle, so don’t worry if you missed it! The formal, new name of this popular spot at Disneyland Hotel is Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill. Come along on a tour of all the new things we found! Tangaroa Terrace Tangaroa Terrace There’s also a grab-and-go marketplace offering snacks, fruit, bottled drinks, some cereal and baked goods. You’ll find the Hawaiian Cheeseburger, Tangaroa Salad, Pu Pu Platter, Pork Gyoza, Sweet-and-Spicy Wings, Panko-Crusted Long Beans, and the same kids’ menu items here. Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill Lunch/Dinner Menu Additions to the menu are the Chili Garlic Edamame, Kalua-style Poutine, Lentil Garden Bowl, Shipwreck Nachos, and Fried Spam Musubi (which at first glance reminds us of the Musubi Halloweentime special at Bengal Barbecue). Sadly, if you were a fan of the Fried Spring Rolls, Shrimp Tacos, Poke Bowl, Chicken Teriyaki Bowl, Island Hot Dog, or Rongo Salad, those items are no longer on the menu at this time. Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill Lunch/Dinner Menu Just like the lunch and dinner menu, the breakfast menu has a few changes as well. You’ll still find the Breakfast Platter here. Additions are the Breakfast Sandwich (which replaces the Breakfast Wrap) Tangaroa Brick Toast (looks a lot like Tonga Toast to us!), Acai Chia Breakfast Bowl, and the Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes. Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill Breakfast Menu The Kids’ menu sees the Mickey Waffles replaced with the Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes. Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill Breakfast Menu Since we were there on opening morning, we tried out the Tangaroa Toast. This is Brick Toast stuffed with Bananas Foster, Whipped Cream, and Toasted Coconut. Sounds and looks yummy! Tangaroa Terrace Tangaroa Toast It was indeed delicious, but fragile! Once we dug in, we got about three solid bites before the whole thing turned to mush. The maple bacon was amazing. And there’s TONS of food for the price — definitely a shareable option. Tangaroa Terrace Tangaroa Toast We truly enjoyed exploring this refurbished location and are looking forward to more meals, and Dole Whips, here in the future! Who’s excited about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, opening in Disney World and Disneyland THIS YEAR?? (See everything you need to know about Galaxy’s Edge HERE.) We’re always looking for new insights and information about the new lands. And while there are a few books and comics being released to introduce us to Black Spire Outpost on the Planet Batuu, we here at DFB are a little more interested in the FOOD! We had a few hints at what might be served at Oga’s Cantina here. But now we’ve seen a Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge COOKBOOK pop up over on Amazon today. Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Cookbook Listing on Amazon It’s currently available for pre-order from Insight Editions and claims to be “the ultimate source for creating out-of-this-world meals and treats all the way from Black Spire Outpost.” So is this legit? Well, we do know that a Galaxy’s Edge cookbook is in the works, authored by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel; and it’s widely reported that it will be produced by Insight Editions. There’s no cover photo on this listing and there hasn’t been any fanfare, but the listing links to Insight Editions’ official Amazon page and it appears to be available for pre-order. We’ll keep an eye on the listing to see if any more details come to light. But we wanted to let you know about it in the meantime! The cookbook currently has a publish date of November 5, 2019. The Churro cart near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is offering a Chocolate Cinnamon Sugar-Dusted Churro with Spicy Cocoa Dipping Sauce to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Chocolate Cinnamon Sugar-Dusted Churro This special Churro is only available while supplies last…should you race to Frontierland for this? Don’t worry, that Churro isn’t burnt — that’s all the cocoa powder and cinnamon! Chocolate Cinnamon Sugar-Dusted Churro You’ll get a much more pronounced chocolate flavor if you use the sauce — despite the churro being dusted with chocolate as well. The spice wasn’t too prominent in the sauce, either. Chocolate Cinnamon Sugar Dusted Churro Overall we’d say this is a good churro option for you churro fans out there! There are some brand new construction walls in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in the the current Star Wars, Grand Avenue, and Commissary Lane intersection areas. New Construction Walls in Hollywood Studios The walls run from the area around the “Star Wars Bathrooms” across from Star Tours all the way around to Commissary Lane across from BaseLine Tap House. One of the areas behind these walls is the Speeder Bike PhotoPass area where you could usually find a PhotoPass Photographer to snap your picture as you sat on the bike. New Construction Walls in Hollywood Studios When we asked what was going on, a cast member told us they are building a new entrance to the current “Star Wars” bathrooms, and also opening up the walkways to create more traffic capacity to the bathrooms. Hollywood Studios “Star Wars” Bathrooms This is the second time we’ve seen refurb going on in this area, following Tatooine Traders’ recent refurbishment. As we watch the construction get closer and closer to what we guess is an entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge our anticipation level for this new land rises! Casey’s Corner in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is one more reason we look forward to the first of every month with their rotating feature, the Hot Diggity Dog of the Month. Plus, it isn’t every day you get to dine with a live pianist and a view of Cinderella Castle! Casey’s Corner Pianist This month’s feature is a Buffalo Chicken topped dog or loaded fries — the big question, is this a Home Run or a Foul Play? Let’s find out! The Dog comes topped with Buffalo Chicken, Diced Celery, and a drizzle of Garlic Ranch Dressing/Sauce. You can choose a Foot-long dog, a regular dog, or to have this as a dish of loaded fries. Casey’s Corner Buffalo Chicken Hot Diggity Dog of the Month As you can see our dog had more than a drizzle of Garlic Ranch, it was borderline bathed in it! Plus, the toppings were all lumped in the middle of the dog. Pick up a fork and knife for this one so you can spread the toppings out! Artist in Residence: Gabby Zapata Gabby is an artist with her own unique style, love of Disney and her bright, cheerful imagery is sure to make you smile! As a senior visual development artist for Disney Digital Network in Glendale, Calif., she creates original artwork you may see on our social media platforms. She majored in computer animation at Ringling College of Art & Design and with the inspiration of legendary animator, Mary Blair, Gabby uses vibrant colors and simplicity in shapes to illustrate diverse, strong, sweet women. Oh, World Premiere Food Court at All-Star Movies, you know our favorites! The Food Court has premiered a Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake just in time for Valentine’s Day! World Premiere Food Court And thanks to our instagram pal @rgrrabbit1 we’ve got some great shots to share with you along with a quick review! The new shake finds happy medium between a “standard” shake in a cup and those crazy-over-the-top shakes. Take a look at this! You’ve got a Strawberry Shake in a souvenir plastic cup that has been drizzled with Chocolate and has Chocolate around the top. Plus — all of this is topped off with Whipped Cream! Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake Our reporter really enjoyed this milkshake — even though it was missing the chocolate covered strawberry. The only drawback is that chocolate around the top if the cup is hard to get off, so if you’re traveling you’ll need to spend some time washing this so you take a clean cup home. We’ve been enjoying all the special treats made just for Disneyland’s Get Your Ears On celebration, but it wasn’t too long ago — November, in fact — when we were celebrating Mickey Mouse on both coasts! At Ghirardelli in Disney Springs, we dug into the Magical Mickey Sundae just in time for Mickey’s 90th birthday. Its run in Disney World has sadly come to an end, but now the Magical Sundae has arrived at Disneyland’s Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop! Mickey Sundae at Ghirardelli Most notable about this sundae is, of course, the use of chocolate-dipped waffle cone pieces used to evoke Mickey’s iconic ears. And because this is Ghirardelli, these ears are delicious. Crunchy, subtly sweet, and coated in that terrific Ghirardelli chocolate. Mickey Sundae at Ghirardelli Mickey’s ears accompany the sundae part of the Magical Sundae: vanilla ice cream, rich hot fudge, whipped cream, and colorful Mickey sprinkles. Disney World has started testing Smart Speakers in select guest rooms at the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. Currently, guests with a Smart Speaker in their guest room will be able to get information including park hours, bus arrival times, the weather, and more from the speakers. Disney’s Yacht Club Resort The Smart Speakers are voice activated, and not linked to any personal accounts, including My Disney Experience accounts. No registration or set up is required if you are in a room with a Smart Speaker. During this test period, if guests are in a room without a Smart Speaker guests can not request a Smart Speaker in their room. According to Disney Guest Services at the Yacht Club, it is not known if guests can opt-out of the test and be in a room without a Smart Speaker if that’s their preference. Smart Speaker If you stay in a room with a Smart Speaker during the test period, after your stay Disney will be requesting your feedback on your use and experience with the device. Hop in, travelers, for a journey through Storybook Land. The Storybook Land Canal Boats have been a Fantasyland mainstay since the attraction opened in 1956 in Disneyland park. This boat ride takes guests on a tour through a picturesque fantasy realm. Let’s take a closer look! The concept for Storybook Land Canal Boats sprouted from Walt Disney’s love for miniatures. The scale of the buildings is a tiny one inch to one foot. The dwellings are outfitted with six-inch doors with quarter-inch hinges that open and close. The Three Little Pigs make an appearance, straight out of the 1933 cartoon. Fifer, Fiddler and Practical have built their homes here—one of straw, one of sticks, and one of bricks. If you look and listen closely, you can see each of their names inscribed on their mailboxes as the pigs sing “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf.” The attention to detail doesn’t end there. The church in the village from Alice in Wonderland has imported stain glass windows. Walt Disney himself insisted on this little luxury as opposed to a less expensive glass, and the stained glass installed at the construction of the village remains to this day. In the center of the canal is a long, narrow island known as London Park. Based on the film “Peter Pan,” London Park features a golden statue of Peter Pan in the center and miniature benches lining the walkways. In the evening, the park sparkles with tiny twinkling lights. Sitting high upon the hill, the castle at Cinderella’s village looks like it comes straight from a fairy tale illustration. The turrets and finials are covered in 24-karat gold and reflect the light from the sun. If you’re riding at night, you may notice that the windows glow with light, as if a great celebration—or ball—is underway. The most recent addition to Storybook Land is Arendelle, home of famed sisters Anna and Elsa. While Elsa’s ice palace is a sight to see, look for more “Frozen” fun after you pass Pinocchio’s village. As you round the corner to pass under the arched bridge, you might be able to sneak a peek at a small shop in the forest outside of town: Oaken’s Trading Post and Sauna. Keep an eye out for their big summer blowouts! With more fairytale magic to be discovered from Disney favorites like “Aladdin” and “The Little Mermaid,” the Storybook Land Canal Boats can be enjoyed time and time again.
