The 2019 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival will run from March 6 – June 3, 2019. And today we’re bringing you the FULL MENUS for the Festival’s Outdoor Kitchens! Epcot Flower and Garden Festival This annual celebration of all things that bloom features gorgeous themed topiaries around the park, the Garden Rocks Concert Series, and much more! Beauty and the Beast topiary And our personal favorite feature of the Festival is the Outdoor Kitchens. These food booths, similar to the Marketplace Booths for the Food and Wine Festival — focus on flavors fresh from the garden for Epcot’s spring festival. There will be a total of 17 Food Booths for 2019 — and that’s an unprecedented number for this Festival! Returning favorites and all-new flavors will make up the offerings, so let’s take a look! Look for Fried Green Tomatoes with Blue Crab-fennel Salad, Remoulade and Smoked Paprika Oil and Mixed Berry Buttermilk Cake, served with Apple Cider Sorbet among the offerings at this celebration of the results of spending time in the garden! AdventHealth will host the Flavor Full Kitchen! This focus on healthy cuisine will feature Citrus-poached Salmon with Ancient Grain Salad, Roasted Vegetables, Citrus Greens and a non-alcoholic Blood Orange Aqua Fresca among the choices. Because, as Disney reminds us, “without Disney Villains, there would be no Disney heroes!” So this dastardly day is being honored with specialty desserts at the Contempo Café and drinks at the Outer Rim lounge for TODAY ONLY. Ursula Cake Ursula Cake This is always a tasty and fun confetti cake, so it’s great one its own, but the shimmer from the icing is also strikingly pretty, to boot. Ursula Cake Ursula Cake Ursula, you’re a keeper! So, where does the scent come from in the Lotso Bear Strawberry Scented Brownie? Lotso Bear Strawberry Scented Brownie It’s from the candy pearls on top, which offered the only hint of strawberry scent and flavor. Despite the bright Lotso-pink color of the frosting, it is a basic vanilla flavor. Lotso Bear Strawberry Scented Brownie And the entire thing is every bit as HUGE as it appears in the picture. This rich, filling, dense, brownie is massive, so consider bringing along your favorite toy to share it with! The Maleficent Flourless Cake is iced in an eye-catching purple, of course, complete with Maleficent’s signature horns. Maleficent Flourless Cake Maleficent Flourless Cake While it’s quite good with the same fudge-like texture that you’d expect from a flourless cake, there’s nothing unusual about it outside of the design. Maleficent Flourless Cake The Cruella de Vil Cupcake steals a bit of the fashion show, though… and would she have it any other way? Look at this thing! Cruella de Vil Cupcake The Cupcake is wrapped in a fondant “coat,” dotted with Dalmatian spots, of course! Cruella de Vil Cupcake It’s an amazing visual touch, so we’ll happily keep it even though, as with pretty much all fondants, it’s not great from a flavor perspective. The flavor variation comes from the cookies and cream filling in the basic yellow cake. Cruella de Vil Cupcake Cruella de Vil Cupcake There’s not a ton of it, to be honest, but it’s still a good, solid cupcake and it looks terrific! But wait, Villains fans, there’s more! If you stop by the Outer Rim lounge right next to Contempo Café, you’ll see a sign with a selection of specialty Villaintine’s Inspired Cocktails on the table. Villaintine’s Inspired Cocktails The bartender has a display of the four drinks. Outer Rim Villaintine’s Day drinks These include The Antagonist (inspired by Jafar), The Dark Forest (inspired by Maleficent), The Poison Apple (inspired by the Wicked Queen), and the Coupe de Ville (inspired by Cruella)! Just read the ingredients on the table sign to find what strikes your fancy! If you’re planning a visit to Disney World with little kids, you might find yourself overwhelmed by all the choices when it comes to planning. And, you might be getting a lot of advice from well-intentioned friends and family — but you’re still confused. Have no fear! Do your homework. Read guidebooks. Talk to your friends. But don’t over-plan. Small World Vacations travel agents say it’s a good plan to have a basic idea of what you want to do every day, but be sure to pencil in three or four hours of flexible fun and be aware of your child’s limitations. Create your My Disney Experience account Once you’ve booked your vacation, visit My Disney Experience and create your account. Stay at a Deluxe Resort on the Monorail If your family budget allows, book a room at one of the Deluxe Resorts on the Monorail in the Magic Kingdom area. This makes trips to the Magic Kingdom — probably where you’ll be spending most of your time with a little one — and afternoon naps more convenient. If you prefer accommodations with a kitchen and separate bedroom, consider a suite at a Value Resort, Cabin at Fort Wilderness, or a Disney Vacation Villa (both Grand Floridian and Polynesian have villas and are on the monorail loop). Groceries and other items can be ordered via Garden Grocer. Monorail at Disney’s Grand Floridian Bring your own stroller or have one delivered to your resort With small children in tow, you will definitely need a stroller! They are a great place for kids to take a quick nap and rest their little feet, and it makes carrying all your park bags a lot easier, too! Remember to personalize your stroller with a ribbon or scarf so you can easily identify it in the sea of strollers at stroller parking locations. Another pro tip: Most of the stores on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom are connected — if the street is packed with people, you can cut through them and avoid the crowds. Plan a few character meals — but don’t overdo it Characters meals are fun for all ages – but you don’t want to try and pack in too many for your visit! Before picking which character meals to book check out our menus and restaurant reviews and be ready to book your Advance Dining Reservations 180 days in advance! To maximize time for rides, try to get the first dining time available for breakfast when the park opens at 9AM. Book the last seating for breakfast when Disney resort guests can take advantage of Extra Magic morning hours. Dine with characters! Get up early and get to the park at rope drop If you are a Disney Resort guest, take advantage of the Extra Magic morning hours at the theme parks. Take an afternoon break at your resort for a swim, playground fun, or a quiet nap. Go back to the parks after dinner to enjoy the evening festivities. Use the Rider Switch program if you have one child (or parent) who loves the more thrilling attractions and a younger child who’s not quite ready for them. This handy service is available at select attractions and allows guests to take turns waiting with youngsters too young or too small to ride a certain attraction, then “switch” with another adult from their party to experience the ride without standing in line twice. Pack all the essentials in your park bag every day! Be sure to pack snack foods like granola bars, dry cereal, and juice boxes for snack breaks throughout the day. Also be sure your park bag is stocked with extra diapers, wipes, a first aid kit, moleskin, sunscreen, hats, hand sanitizer, and more. Other great items to remember – ear plugs for loud fireworks, ponchos, and an umbrella. Remember — Baby Care centers are available in every park for quiet time, feeding time, or if you didn’t pack quite enough diapers. Pack some Ponchos! Additional tips for a Disney World visit with small kids The pros at Small World Vacations also suggest taking a photo of your child each day just in case they get separated from you in the parks – you know what they’re wearing! All kids should also carry some sort of identification with their parents’ cell phone numbers – they recommend MyBuddyTag.com. Also remember to always pack an extra outfit for the day – just in case there are bathroom emergencies or too many rides on Splash Mountain! Most importantly though – remember to have fun! As long as the kids are having fun, there’s no need to get on every ride in the park. Be flexible and aware of your child’s developmental capabilities. Be prepared for small children to be apprehensive about the characters. Look at them from afar and slowly introduce your kids when they are in the right mood and ready to say hello. We can’t tell you how excited we are that Disney Parks food is showing up on all kinds of merchandise these days. We fell hard for the Pizza and Mickey Donut bags we spotted last month (click here to check them out!)… and for the entire line of Disney snacks bags from LoungeFly (you gotta look at them again!)… and for the Dole Whip-patterned merch we found in the Magic Kingdom (seriously: look!). And now Disneyland has introduced several sweet (and savory) tee shirts that come in boxes as cool as the shirts themselves! Note that you can find several of these at Disney World as well! Food shirts, socks, and accessories at Disneyland! How fun are these displays? The new shirts are shown, as well as the Mickey Pizza Purse, a Dole Whip coin purse, and some colorful socks covered in sprinkles (maybe?). Food shirts, socks, and accessories at Disneyland! The “I’m just here for the donuts” shirt is a kids’ size, but the sentiment is true for all ages, right? “I’m just here for the donuts!” kids’ tee shirt But check out the box it comes in, which is fashioned like a take-out pastry box and lets us know it’s “Fresh out of the oven!” Oh, how we would find a million ways to use this! The Studio features delicious Mexican inspired dishes that includes delicious sopes de chilorio (slow-braised pork marinated in ancho chili paste served on fried corn dough with black beans, queso Oaxaca, crema mexicana and salsa verde), callo de hacha en salsa de jengibre y habanero (two seared scallops with ginger-habanero sauce atop yucca purée) and my favorite chocoflan: a creamy custard and chocolate sponge cake topped with cajeta and hazelnuts. Here is the recipe for this amazing postre so you can have a little bit of the festival at home! Epcot International Festival of the Arts takes place through Feb. 25. The festival is included with regular admission. Chocoflan Serves 12 Chocoflan: 1/4 cup cajeta (or dulce de leche) 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 10 1/2 tablespoons butter, softened 1 cup sugar 5 eggs, divided 2 tablespoons brewed espresso, cooled 1 cup whole milk 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk 1 teaspoon vanilla Topping: 1 cup cajeta (or dulce de leche) 1/4 cup hazelnuts, crushed 1/4 cup powdered sugar For Chocoflan: Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray 9×13-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside. Place cajeta in microwave-safe bowl and cook, stirring every 15 seconds, for 45 seconds to 1 minute, until cajeta pours easily. Spread and evenly coat bottom of prepared 9×13-inch baking pan. Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder in medium mixing bowl. Set aside. Cream butter in bowl of electric mixer fitted with paddle attachment until smooth. Add sugar and cream until fluffy. Beat in 1 egg and cooled espresso until smooth. Add 1/2 of flour mixture and 1/2 of milk and beat on low speed. Repeat with remaining flour and milk; beat until smooth. Spread over top of cajeta in prepared pan and set aside. Combine evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, and remaining 4 eggs in blender and purée until smooth and fluffy. Evenly pour over cake batter. Place 9×13-inch pan in larger baking pan and fill larger pan with water until 1/3 full. Bake 50-55 minutes or until knife inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Remove from water bath and cool for 1 hour. To serve: Run knife around the edge of cake. Place large baking sheet on top of pan and flip pan to release cake. Cut the cake in half, making 2 rectangles, approximately 9×6 inches each. Place 1 rectangle, cake side down, on a platter using two spatulas. Top with second rectangle. Warm 1 cup cajeta in microwave for 1 minute, until warm. Spread on top of chocoflan and sprinkle with hazelnuts. Cut into squares; dust top with powdered sugar before serving. *Cook’s Notes: Dulce de leche may be used in place of cajeta. A super after-hours event is coming to Disney California Adventure. Get ready for Disneyland After Dark: Heroes Assemble! ©Disney Guests may purchase tickets (which will be on sale starting next week) to attend either April 30th or May 1st from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM to experience character encounters, special entertainment, themed food, merchandise and more — all of which will be themed to favorite Super Hero stories. Select attractions including Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! will be available to guests as well. Event highlights will include: Meet and Greets with Super Heroes Entertainment including a dance party and “heroic show moments” A Supreme Scavenger Hunt to solve a puzzle to “help save mankind from complete chaos!” A celebration full of surprises honoring 80 years of comic art Immersive themed backdrops for photo opportunities Guests are invited to dress up as their favorite hero and can also enjoy limited-time Snapchat features when capturing the moment. Valentine’s Day is just days away and we’re celebrating early with a special edition of our “Learn to Draw” series featuring one of the more unusual Disney couples – robots WALL-E and Eve. Today, Artist Stephen Ketchum from Disney’s Art of Animation Resort has easy to follow instructions on how to bring both robots to life on paper. As you can see in our video, Stephen starts with an oval and uses lightly drawn curves as guidelines to create a perfect Eve before using vertical lines and a diamond shape to draw WALL-E.
