This week marks the start of Earth Month, and we are showcasing our approach to environmental efforts at Disney Parks! From the recently opened 50-megawatt solar facility providing power to Walt Disney World to ongoing efforts to reduce single-use plastics and the granting of more than $75 million to nonprofits through the Disney Conservation Fund, we are making great strides towards our long-term goals of attaining net zero greenhouse gas emissions and zero waste, while conserving water resources and reversing the decline of wildlife around the globe. Along with conserving energy and fuel, a key part of our success in cutting greenhouse gas emissions is due to work expanding renewable energy sources. I’m proud to share how we are tackling this challenge around the world. Around the globe, solar energy is playing a big role in our strategy, including the new 50MW facility and a second, Mickey-shaped array servicing Walt Disney World, rooftop systems at Tokyo Disneyland and 1,400 panels on top of Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure. These facilities combine with other energy projects to create enough solar energy to power a small city like Key West, Florida for a year! Shanghai Disney Resort’s innovative Combined Cooling and Heating Plant may sound intimidating, but this facility reuses heat and condensation from normal operations to reduce energy use. That’s 70% more efficient than traditional facilities! And Disneyland Paris is leveraging geothermal energy to help power their onsite theme parks and resorts. Our parks include a global fleet of vehicles running on renewable and alternative fuels – and their impact really adds up! In fact, the Walt Disney World Transportation bus fleet was one of the first in the country to run on R50, a renewable fuel. Steam trains and the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland Resort utilize fuel made with used cooking oil from resort kitchens, and cleaner fuel alternatives also power parade floats, Monorails and various attraction vehicles. These efforts along with other energy and fuel projects contribute to the emissions reduction equivalent of removing more than 4,000 cars from roadways each year. Plant a tree! Disney-funded forestry projects are helping to protect and restore natural ecosystems around the globe. In the last decade, projects in six countries have supported more than 1 million acres of forestlands, protecting global areas more than 33 times the size of Walt Disney World Resort. All of these efforts have significantly helped us reach our goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2020. Looking ahead, we have plans in place to continue making great progress on all of our sustainability goals. Learn more about our investments in natural climate solutions and commitment to the environment on the Walt Disney Company website. Join us! What will you do to celebrate Earth Month? When we walk around the parks, we are always on the lookout for something new! And friends, wait ’til you see what we found today while strolling around Disney’s Hollywood Studios… To Infinity… and BEYOND! Today, we happened to find some new toy-mazing merchandise at the kiosks in Toy Story Land. Earlier in the week, we told you about the new Woody Loungefly backpack. Woody Loungefly It features both Woody’s belt and shiny Sheriff badge. Howdy! Woody Backpack Loungefly backpacks are the perfect park bag thanks to their size. They aren’t too big nor are they too small. Their fun prints also make them the perfect park accessory, so we always get excited when new prints are released… like this next one! Because today we were roped into the Toy Story Land merchandise kiosks once again when we spotted another NEW Loungefly backpack. And this time it is themed after none other than Woody’s best pal, Buzz Lightyear! Buzz Lightyear Loungefly Backpack The backpack looks just like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger suit with its vibrant purple and green accents. Buzz Lightyear Backpack The backpack also features all of Buzz Lightyear’s buttons, including his laser! To Infinity AND BEYOND!! Buzz Lightyear Backpack Not only did we spot these two new Loungefly backpacks, we also saw a new Toy Story Mickey Ear Hat. Alien Mickey Ears One ear reads “I Have Been Chosen!” while the other sports the iconic claw! Three plush eyes complete the look . The ears even have the little alien antenna on the back! OOOOO! The ears are $24.99 and can be found at the Toy Story Land merchandise kiosks… which also just so happen to be super cute. Play Family Camper Merchandise Stand Love Toy Story? We’re back at Big Top Treats in Magic Kingdom for MORE snacks inspired by the lovable Dumbo! Vanilla Dumbo Cupcake Recently, we tried the “Popcorn” Caramel Apple, and now we’re back for the Dumbo Cupcakes in the Big Top’s confection case. Dumbo Cupcakes Chocolate and vanilla are your choices, which sounds pretty basic. But things get more interesting as you look closer. Chocolate Dumbo Cupcake The chocolate cupcake, for instance, is topped with peanut butter buttercream frosting, and peanuts of both the real (chopped) and candy variety. Chocolate Dumbo Cupcake Clearly, it’s hard to beat anything topped with that famous, delicious peanut butter buttercream, but especially when it comes to the classic combination of peanut butter and chocolate. Chocolate Dumbo Cupcake The vanilla cupcake is a little more visually striking, topped with bright blue buttercream, sprinkles, and white chocolate versions of Dumbo’s hat and feather. Vanilla Dumbo Cupcake But there is no flavor combo here to mention. It’s all classic vanilla throughout. It’s a good, decent vanilla cupcake, but we couldn’t help thinking it would’ve been great as a confetti cupcake to match the colorful toppings! Vanilla Dumbo Cupcake A few things to note: these Dumbo-inspired items are not guaranteed after the end of this month, and some may disappear as early as April 27th. Plus, the cupcakes in particular are selling out quickly each day. They sometimes get a second batch in the afternoon, but there are no guarantees, so find your way under the Big Top as soon as you can during your Magic Kingdom visit to find them! Sprinkles Cupcakes has made a name for itself by serving up delicious cupcakes, but this spot — located in both Disneyland’s Downtown Disney and Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs — also has a lot of fun with seasonal cupcakes. This time of year, it’s all about Easter! Downtown Disney Sprinkles The “Easter Candy Series” features limited release cupcakes with a new offering each week. The first is the Robin Eggs Cupcake from April 1-7. Next will be a Jelly Bean Cupcake from April 8-14, followed by the final offering: a Peeps Cupcake from April 15-21! Sprinkles Cupcake Case — Downtown Disney The Robin Eggs Cupcake consists of moist chocolate cake with sweet vanilla buttercream frosting. Robin Eggs Cupcake Of course, there’s no way the specialty cupcake stops there! This one is decorated to resemble a bird’s nest! Toasted coconut is pressed into the edges of the buttercream. It’s not crisp or crunchy, which would have been a nice contrast in texture, but it added a little variation in flavor that was welcome. Robin Eggs Cupcake The addition of three matte candy ‘eggs’ completes the bird’s nest design, making this perfect for the spring and the Easter holiday. Robin Eggs Cupcake The eggs are a lovely contrast to the simple vanilla buttercream, but they’re pretty big so we preferred eating them separately rather than together with the cupcake. It’s time for another in the series of Disneyland sporks. Yes, we said spork, and they’re all the rage in Adventureland’s Tropical Hideaway, where Dole Whip is king, and sporks are collectible. Tropical Hideaway ©Disney This spork, the third in the series, features an enthusiastic tiki drummer! Like its predecessors, the tiki drummer has a faux wood appearance and that iconic spoon/fork combination. Tiki Drummer Spork The tiki drummer is beating a drum with what appears to be a grimacing tiki face etched into its side. It’s quite a lot of detail for a spork, right? Tiki Drummer Spork The Tropcial Hideaway spork has become a fun collectible at Disneyland Park, and at only $2.99, it’s affordable and functional. Love that! Tiki Drummer Spork The original spork was a piranha, and that was followed by a hippo. Naturally. Hippo Spork Honestly, we know it’s a spork, but we can’t wait to see what design they come out with next! Don’t miss a bit of Disney Parks news — even the sporks! The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival has returned for its 26th year of connecting guests to the magic of nature, with interactive gardens and exhibits bursting with the beauty of spring. If you’ve had a chance to visit, you may have noticed a special addition to this year’s displays – a giant penguin sculpture created out of marine debris celebrating the upcoming release of Disneynature Penguins. The film, which opens April 17, is a coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. None of it comes easily for him, especially considering he’s targeted by everything from killer whales to leopard seals, who unapologetically threaten his happily ever after. The larger-than-life sculpture, located between The Land and The Seas with Nemo & Friends, depicts an adult and baby Adélie penguin resting on a pebble nest. The installation is more than initially meets the eye – it’s made entirely out of recycled marine debris such as bottle caps, toothbrushes and even discarded toys, all recovered from oceans and waterways! The artwork was created by the nonprofit organization WashedAshore.org, whose mission is to produce powerful works of art that are designed to help inspire a global audience to keep oceans and waterways clear of plastic pollution. Epcot guests can start making a conservation impact of their own by pledging to reduce the amount of single-use plastics they use each day, choosing reusable bags and skipping the straw when consuming beverages. Disneynature “Penguins” carries forward a legacy of conservation and the work of the Disney Conservation Fund. Since 2000, the Disney Conservation Fund has donated $1 million to support penguin conservation projects around the world. If you can’t visit the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, you can still make a difference for penguins. For every ticket sold during the film’s opening week April 17-23, Disneynature, via the Disney Conservation Fund, will make a donation to the Wildlife Conservation Network to help protect penguins around the globe. Guests can also see another enormous penguin sculpture at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park in celebration of Earth Month, April 1 – 30. For an exclusive peek into “Penguins,” download your free copy of the Disneynature “Penguins” Educator’s Guide and Activity Packet, available online at disney.com/nature. View the full article

A few weeks ago, Disney released information about new dining options in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (see it here!), and Kat Saka’s Kettle was introduced as a flavored popcorn stand. Now, we have a look at BRAND NEW concept art for this spot! Kat Saka’s Kettles In keeping with other concept art we’ve seen from Galaxy’s Edge, Kat Saka’s appears to blend right into the scene. It looks like cauldrons of popcorn crowd the entrance, covered in domes. We’ll have to wait and see how this design translates in real life, but it looks like a weathered food stall in a busy market! Kat Saka’s Kettel ©Disney Parks Kat Saka’s Kettle and Ronto Roasters — a sandwich spot in Galaxy’s Edge — now have webpages for both Disneyland and Disney World (until now neither had been represented by an official page) noting phase one opening dates — May 31 for Disneyland and August 29 for Disney World. Ronto Roasters ©Disney Parks Which really brings us to our last point: is it May 31 yet?! With so many new things to explore, rides to ride, and eats to eat, we can’t wait for Galaxy’s Edge to throw open its gates! What do you think of the new Kat Saka’s Kettle concept art?
