In late February, we got a sneak peek at tons of the unique merchandise shops coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (click here for all those details!), and now we have BRAND NEW concept art for two shops — one populated by the First Order and one for the Resistance! Galaxy’s Edge Concept Art Resistance Supply will let you “rendezvous with other Resistance allies in a forested area near the ancient ruins!” Resistance Supply While browsing, though, you’ll want to keep a low profile. Why? Because “members of the Resistance have set up a secret makeshift post where you can join the cause to defeat the First Order.” First Order Cargo lets you gear up “in pursuit of the Resistance.” This shop is set up in Docking Bay 9 next to the First Order’s shuttle… the perfect spot for the First Order to “to win the hearts and minds of the locals.” First Order Cargo Both pieces of concept art feature droids, so it’ll be fun to see if these characters are present in the real life versions of these immersive Black Spire Outpost shops! Of course… you’ll likely be doing the most shopping where your allegiance lies. So what’s your first stop going to be? You get to choose: the Resistance or the First Order? “Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me?” The Leader of the Club! M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!! And the leader of the club now has his very own cupcake tribute at Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Bakery with the brand new Mouseketeer Cupcake! Mouseketeer Cupcake There’s no mistaking that signature Mickey Mouse Club logo created with Mickey’s cute mug (complete with grin!) made of chocolate on top of a small bit of red fondant icing to mimic the circular design. Mouseketeer Cupake But additional Mickey touches include chocolate disc “ears” and black, white, and red Mickey sprinkles. Mouseketeer Cupake Before we chat about flavor, we should note the size. The Mickey Mouse Club Cupcake is a JUMBO cupcake (this size made its debut with the Poison Apple Cupcake last Halloween). Mouseketeer Cupake Now let’s talk taste, starting with the DOUBE DOSE of icing on top! Mouseketeer Cupake The very top black icing is quite flavorful. It’s actually a chocolate and vanilla swirl, all dyed with black food coloring and covered in black sugar crystals. And the color, as you can tell, is intense. Just right for the Mickey Mouse Club colors, along with being super yummy. Mouseketeer Cupake But be warned that the color will stick with you for a while after you’ve finished the cupcake . A second pile of vanilla icing lies beneath, which is dipped in those Mickey sprinkles we mentioned earlier. Under ALL THAT is a marbled red velvet and yellow swirl cake base. It’s nice and moist, and you can really pick up both flavors. Mouseketeer Cupake The Mousketeer Cupcake is $6.99 (the typical price for a jumbo) or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. It is terrifically fun and tasty, and we are for sure in this Club! How about you? Don’t Miss Out on Any Disney Fun! The 2019 DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining is now available! What’s NEW at Disney’s Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs Resorts? A lot of construction! Both resorts are seeing lots of new additions from the Skyliner System to BRAND NEW resorts. Caribbean Beach, of course, is adjacent the new Riviera Resort and with that proximity comes a lot of action! Riviera Resort Construction and Skyliner While the Riviera Resort isn’t a part of Caribbean Beach Resort, guests are still feeling the impact of it’s construction. Just how much will this construction affect your visit? Read on to find out! Disney’s Riviera Resort Construction Disney’s Riviera Resort, expected to open December 16th of this year, is a Disney Vacation Club Resort inspired by Walt’s travels through the Mediterranean. The resort will be connected to Hollywood Studios and Epcot via the new Skyliner System. Riviera Resort Construction Riviera’s Skyliner station is clearly visible to the left of the resort. Construction continues here in addition to the larger project of the resort itself. Skyliner in proximity to Riviera It’s difficult to tell how far along this station is, but there are still pieces of equipment, tools, and materials about. Riviera Skyliner Station Riviera Resort itself looms large on the horizon and remains covered in substantial scaffolding. Riviera Resort Construction Riviera Resort Construction Riviera Resort Construction This new resort will be the 15th Disney Vacation Club Resort on property and will have rooftop dining with spectacular views of the Epcot and Hollywood Studios fireworks. Read more about the resort and its restaurants here! Riviera Resort Construction What’s New at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Across the water at Caribbean Beach Resort you might hear a bit of construction noise during the day; since the main pillars of the Skyliner System have been in place for months, most guests won’t experience much of an impact. Caribbean Beach’s own Skyliner station continues to develop, and we can see many gondolas parked at the station. They remain covered in white plastic, but we can get a hint of color beneath the covering! Caribbean Beach Skyliner Station A peek inside Centertown Market shows some changes to the menu here! Several items are gone, including: Romaine Watercress and Hearts of Palm Salad, Shrimp Piccata with Linguini, Chicken Parmesan, Banana Wrapped Fish option for the Create-Your-Own-Bowls, the Smoked Turkey and Chicken Cuban Hot Sandwich, and the Grilled Vegetable Cold Sandwich. Centertown Market Dinner Menu The pastry case was stocked on our visit with the latest specialty cupcake… Centertown Market Pastry Case A Rose Gold Unicorn Cupcake! (We spotted a few of these last year when rose gold and unicorns were reaching peak popularity). Rose Gold Unicorn Cupcake What’s New at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort Gran Destino Tower gets closer and closer to completion — with an opening date of July 9, 2019! Coronado Springs Gran Destino Tower from the road From the road, you can get some pretty good glimpses of how things are progressing. Coronado Springs Gran Destino Tower from the road Exterior design details are emerging! Coronado Springs Gran Destino Tower from the road Coronado Springs Gran Destino Tower from the road This new addition to the Coronado Springs Resort will bring another 545 guest rooms to the resort. Coronado Springs Gran Destino Tower from the road Construction walls remain up, along with concept art that gives us a peek at the finished tower along with the new dining options coming to the resort. Concept art on construction walls You can check out the menu for Toledo — the new rooftop restaurant opening with Gran Destino Tower — here! Concept art on construction walls Concept art on construction walls From the other side of the building, we got another look at those exterior details. Gran Destino Tower Plenty of scaffolding here too, but exterior work has come a long way! Gran Destino Tower Gran Destino Tower This appears to be a (covered?) walkway that will lead toward El Centro, where you’ll find more dining options. Gran Destino Tower We expect the view of Lago Dorado will be lovely from the rooms facing the lake! Gran Destino Tower From afar, it’s now easy to see how Gran Destino Tower will look on the landscape of Coronado Springs Resort. Gran Destino Tower Other construction at the resort includes Villa del Lago/Three Bridges Bar & Grill. Honestly, we’re not sure what’s going on with the name here. Disney changed the original moniker — Villa del Lago — to Three Bridges Bar & Grill a while back, but signage on our visit still said Villa del Lago. Could be old signage, so we’re keeping an eye on this! Villa del Lago This space (whatever it’s eventually called!) will be a lounge and possible meeting space… Villa del Lago Villa del Lago Including with what looks like a large outdoor space. Villa del Lago There are also extensive bridges at the resort, including this one leading to Villa del Lago. Villa del Lago This location will offer spectacular vistas of the Coronado Springs Resort and we’re highly anticipating more details from this new dining location. Villa del Lago Not a bad view at all! Villa del Lago El Mercado has a few new (or newish!) items, including the Mocha Cupcake we previously reviewed from Cafe Rix! (Click here for the review!) Mocha Cupcake El Mercado has also added this adorable Strawberry Cake! Strawberry Cake Specialty soups (if you’re still hungry after a cupcake and a cake) are Chicken Tortilla and Turkey Chili. This week marks the start of Earth Month, and we are showcasing our approach to environmental efforts at Disney Parks! From the recently opened 50-megawatt solar facility providing power to Walt Disney World to ongoing efforts to reduce single-use plastics and the granting of more than $75 million to nonprofits through the Disney Conservation Fund, we are making great strides towards our long-term goals of attaining net zero greenhouse gas emissions and zero waste, while conserving water resources and reversing the decline of wildlife around the globe. Along with conserving energy and fuel, a key part of our success in cutting greenhouse gas emissions is due to work expanding renewable energy sources. I’m proud to share how we are tackling this challenge around the world. Around the globe, solar energy is playing a big role in our strategy, including the new 50MW facility and a second, Mickey-shaped array servicing Walt Disney World, rooftop systems at Tokyo Disneyland and 1,400 panels on top of Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure. These facilities combine with other energy projects to create enough solar energy to power a small city like Key West, Florida for a year! Shanghai Disney Resort’s innovative Combined Cooling and Heating Plant may sound intimidating, but this facility reuses heat and condensation from normal operations to reduce energy use. That’s 70% more efficient than traditional facilities! And Disneyland Paris is leveraging geothermal energy to help power their onsite theme parks and resorts. Our parks include a global fleet of vehicles running on renewable and alternative fuels – and their impact really adds up! In fact, the Walt Disney World Transportation bus fleet was one of the first in the country to run on R50, a renewable fuel. Steam trains and the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland Resort utilize fuel made with used cooking oil from resort kitchens, and cleaner fuel alternatives also power parade floats, Monorails and various attraction vehicles. These efforts along with other energy and fuel projects contribute to the emissions reduction equivalent of removing more than 4,000 cars from roadways each year. Plant a tree! Disney-funded forestry projects are helping to protect and restore natural ecosystems around the globe. In the last decade, projects in six countries have supported more than 1 million acres of forestlands, protecting global areas more than 33 times the size of Walt Disney World Resort. All of these efforts have significantly helped us reach our goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2020. Looking ahead, we have plans in place to continue making great progress on all of our sustainability goals. Learn more about our investments in natural climate solutions and commitment to the environment on the Walt Disney Company website. Join us! What will you do to celebrate Earth Month? We’re back at Big Top Treats in Magic Kingdom for MORE snacks inspired by the lovable Dumbo! Vanilla Dumbo Cupcake Recently, we tried the “Popcorn” Caramel Apple, and now we’re back for the Dumbo Cupcakes in the Big Top’s confection case. Dumbo Cupcakes Chocolate and vanilla are your choices, which sounds pretty basic. But things get more interesting as you look closer. Chocolate Dumbo Cupcake The chocolate cupcake, for instance, is topped with peanut butter buttercream frosting, and peanuts of both the real (chopped) and candy variety. Chocolate Dumbo Cupcake Clearly, it’s hard to beat anything topped with that famous, delicious peanut butter buttercream, but especially when it comes to the classic combination of peanut butter and chocolate. Chocolate Dumbo Cupcake The vanilla cupcake is a little more visually striking, topped with bright blue buttercream, sprinkles, and white chocolate versions of Dumbo’s hat and feather. Vanilla Dumbo Cupcake But there is no flavor combo here to mention. It’s all classic vanilla throughout. It’s a good, decent vanilla cupcake, but we couldn’t help thinking it would’ve been great as a confetti cupcake to match the colorful toppings! Vanilla Dumbo Cupcake A few things to note: these Dumbo-inspired items are not guaranteed after the end of this month, and some may disappear as early as April 27th. Plus, the cupcakes in particular are selling out quickly each day. They sometimes get a second batch in the afternoon, but there are no guarantees, so find your way under the Big Top as soon as you can during your Magic Kingdom visit to find them! Sprinkles Cupcakes has made a name for itself by serving up delicious cupcakes, but this spot — located in both Disneyland’s Downtown Disney and Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs — also has a lot of fun with seasonal cupcakes. This time of year, it’s all about Easter! Downtown Disney Sprinkles The “Easter Candy Series” features limited release cupcakes with a new offering each week. The first is the Robin Eggs Cupcake from April 1-7. Next will be a Jelly Bean Cupcake from April 8-14, followed by the final offering: a Peeps Cupcake from April 15-21! Sprinkles Cupcake Case — Downtown Disney The Robin Eggs Cupcake consists of moist chocolate cake with sweet vanilla buttercream frosting. Robin Eggs Cupcake Of course, there’s no way the specialty cupcake stops there! This one is decorated to resemble a bird’s nest! Toasted coconut is pressed into the edges of the buttercream. It’s not crisp or crunchy, which would have been a nice contrast in texture, but it added a little variation in flavor that was welcome. Robin Eggs Cupcake The addition of three matte candy ‘eggs’ completes the bird’s nest design, making this perfect for the spring and the Easter holiday. Robin Eggs Cupcake The eggs are a lovely contrast to the simple vanilla buttercream, but they’re pretty big so we preferred eating them separately rather than together with the cupcake. Robin Eggs Cupcake The eggs are solid chocolate with a sugary coating — nothing special but if this is a favorite Easter candy for you, they’re kind of a bonus atop the delicious cupcake! Robin Eggs Cupcake We LOVE seasonal eats, and a seasonal cupcake is a sweet way to celebrate any occasion. We’ll be bringing you the next Easter Candy Series cupcakes, too, so stay tuned! Gotta have that cupcake news? Sign up for the DFB Newsletter today! Check out more Disneyland Food Reviews Here!! Would you enjoy this Robin Eggs Cupcake? Let us know in the comments!
