If you know us, then you know that we love a yummy cocktail — especially when it comes from or is inspired by the Disney Parks! Avocado Margarita We’re ready to cool off from a long day with a delish homemade Disney cocktail and the perfect Disney movie to pair alongside it. We have compiled the perfect list of DFB cocktail recipes and movies to watch while you sip away! 1. Avocado Margarita with The Three Caballeros We’re starting off with one of our favorite cocktails to grace the bars of Disney World. It’s the Avocado Margarita from La Cava del Tequila in Epcot! You might also know this tasty beverage as the Aquacate. We think this TOTALLY delish drink would pair perfectly with a viewing of The Three Caballeros! Avocado Margarita This cocktail is a yummy blend of avocado, tequila, melon liquor, lime, and agave. Not only do both the movie and the drink celebrate Latin American culture, but they’re both pretty colorful and bright too! On top of that, the sour notes in the marg pair perfectly with the silliness of the movie! To learn how to make the Aguacate for yourself, click here! 2. Enchanted Tiki Drink with Moana Take a trip to the Polynesian islands by streaming Moana and whipping up an Enchanted Tiki Drink! This combo of spiced rum, pineapple juice, grenadine, and cream of coconut makes for the perfect mix of island flavors. Cheers! Both this drink and this film are super sweet. Plus, just like the blend of flavors in the drink, Moana learned to blend what she loved (the islands AND the sea) about her home by the end of the movie. See, this drink is symbolic! Click here to fashion yourself an Enchanted Tiki Drink! 3. Konk Kooler with The Little Mermaid For our next cocktail, we’re pulling inspo from Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Cay, where they serve up a yummy mix of dark rum, light rum, passion fruit juice, pina colada mix, and orange juice called the Konk Kooler! We’re pairing this guy with The Little Mermaid because just like Ariel, we want to be somewhere we’re not — and that somewhere for us is Castaway Cay! “I want to be where the Konk Coolers are…” Cheers! We don’t need to make a deal with a sea witch to have this tropical drink at home thanks to the DFB recipe that we’re blending up! Trust us, once you’re hanging on the couch with a cool glass of Konk Kooler watching Sebastian sing his little crab heart out, you’ll feel like “life is the bubbles!” Want to have your own tropical getaway with the Konk Kooler? Click here! 4. Elderflower Cocktail with Ratatouille For a classy evening, we recommend one of THREE Elderflower Cocktails paired with a viewing of Ratatouille. These cocktails are all made with St. Germain liqueur which is a popular addition to finer drinks around Disney World. And who better to give us classy cuisine than our favorite little chef, Remy!? Elderflower Cocktail with Pansy Garnish Plus, the liqueur is French, just like the movie! AND, it’s made from elderflowers — so these cocktails could even impress Anton Ego. Check out how to make this beauty of a drink here! 5. Triple Yeti Blast with Monsters Inc. Next up get ready to whip up the Triple Yeti Blast! This Animal Kingdom cocktail actually reminds us of a famous character in Monsters Inc. — the Adorable Snowman. Not only is the Snowman a yeti, but he also makes snow cones! We’re not gonna lie, this drink definitely looks a little bit like colorful snow. Triple Yeti Blast from Upcountry Beverages at Disney’s Animal Kingdom This drink is actually a layered combo of three different margaritas, so get ready for it to pack a punch! You’ll have a monstrously good time watching Sully and Mike’s friendship as you sip on this drink! Get your sip on with the full recipe for the Triple Yeti Blast, click here! 6. Monorail Drinks with Meet the Robinsons For the next pairing, you can DIY one of three different Monorail Drinks from California Grill in the Contemporary Resort! These drinks were inspired by the red, pink, and yellow monorails and made for some pretty darn tasty blended cocktails! We’re pairing them with Meet the Robinsons! Bar The Monorail is an iconic feature of Walt Disney World resort AND a pretty awesome symbol of the “Tomorrow” Walt dreamed about. This movie is also a testament to Walt’s tomorrow and vision. So, sip on a trio of cocktails celebrating the monorail while you learn how to “Keep moving forward.” And, maybe toast to Walt, too. Click here for the recipes for all THREE Monorail Drinks! 7. Christmas Cookie Cocktail with Noelle We’re pairing the Christmas Cookie Cocktail with Noelle on Disney+. Just because it’s not the holiday season doesn’t mean we can’t have a little celebration to bring tidings of joy! This cocktail is made with Bailey’s Irish Cream, Kahlua, peppermint schnapps, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and cookie shavings. YUM. Disney Cruise Line’s Christmas Cookie Cocktail Noelle and this drink both celebrate the holidays and leave us with smiles on our faces! Get your holiday on with the Christmas Cookie Cocktail by clicking here! 8. Bella Notte Sangria with Lady and the Tramp Next time you’re having a beautiful night (or bella notte), whip up the Bella Notte Sangria and play Lady and the Tramp. This is a super tasty drink with a blend of juices, chianti, and triple sec! Bella Notte Sangria — Just In Time for Your Lady and the Tramp Fanniversary Event! This fruity drink is a sweet alternative to any ole glass of wine and can definitely create a romantic atmosphere. Hey, you could even try to make an evening out of it and whip up some spaghetti, too! Click here for the Bella Notte Sangria recipe! 9. Tiger Lily Sangria with Peter Pan That’s not the only sangria we have on the list for yah. Try pairing the DELISH Tiger Lily Sangria with a viewing of Peter Pan — what a classic! This Sangria is as gorgeous as Tiger Lily herself and about as spunky too! Tiger Lily Sangria With the floral AND fruity flavors of chardonnay, elderflower liqueur, orange liqueur, guava, and mango, you’ll be transported right to Neverland. When you’re sipping on this, you might disagree with Peter. Sometimes it’s good to grow up! Want to whip up a Tiger Lily Sangria for yourself? Click here! 10. Winter Wonderland Spiked Mocha with Frozen It doesn’t have to be cold outside to have a tasty winter cocktail. Be like Elsa and make it winter TODAY with Frozen on the TV and a Winter Wonderland Spiked Mocha in your glass. If there’s one flick that has us dreaming of a winter wonderland, it’s Frozen! © Joffrey’s Coffee You’ll think this drink came right from Elsa’s powers with an energizing blend of coffee and coconut rum. Nothing warms the heart quite like the love of family and a little help from this tasty drink too. Learn to make the Winter Wonderland Spiked Mocha, click here! We’re super excited to try out alllll these cocktail/movie pairings while we’re at home. Let us know if you try any of them out for yourself! Want more DFB recipes? Click here to find ALL OF THEM! As many Central Florida residents and those who have been following along with our coverage already know, both Osceola and Orange County have recently issued a shelter-in-place order that will go into effect this evening at 11 PM. Early Morning at Cinderella Castle Due to its location between both counties, the entirety of the Walt Disney World Resort falls under these enforceable laws which only permits travel for essential businesses, supply shopping, and medical care for the next two weeks. According to The Orlando Sentinel, Orange County officials have confirmed this morning that Disney World’s amusement rides and water parks are regarded as non-essential businesses, therefore the soonest Disney World could lawfully begin operating again is April 9th at 11 PM. Magic Kingdom Disney announced the closure of Disney World on March 12th and hasn’t released a statement yet about whether or not they’ll be extending its temporary closure. We’ll be sure to keep a watchful eye and update you as soon as more information is announced. It’s hard to imagine that Magic Kingdom first opened its doors all the waaaaay back on October 1st, 1971. Cinderella Castle And while we’ll have to wait until 2021 to celebrate Disney World’s big 50th-anniversary, we’re kicking off the festivities a little early today! That’s right, friends! We’re about to share a weird (but interesting!) fact about these 14 opening day attractions! Get ready to have your Disney World minds expanded with some little-known Disney trivia! Country Bear Jamboree Fur and claw-tapping tunes have been flying out of this long-time Frontierland establishment since Magic Kingdom’s opening day! Trixie St. Claire in a Bathing Suit? Oh, ho ho! You read that right! Country Bear Jamboree used to receive TWO unique seasonal overlays! One was a kitschy winter theme which included holiday music (and Liver Lips McGrowl looked like a Santa Elvis). Country Bear Jamboree Meanwhile, the “Country Bear Vacation Hoedown” was a summer-themed hootnanny — and yes, Trixie was sporting a very stylish one-piece swimsuit! Both variations were phased out of Magic Kingdom by the mid 2000s, but man — those were some crazy times to be alive! And if you still want to catch either of these shows, you still can at Tokyo Disneyland! The Hall of Presidents Walt Disney loved America, and The Hall of Presidents is his homage to our nation’s great leaders throughout history. Those Aren’t PROPS, Little Jimmy! In fact, the lobby of The Hall of President is home to several artifacts once owned by former U.S. Presidents! There’s John Quincy Adams’ microscope, a golf club that belonged to Woodrow Wilson, and a Powderhorn used by Theodore Roosevelt. ©Disney The Hall of Presidents There’s even a beer mug that belonged to George Washington! That’s pretty impressive considering he lead from 1789 to 1797! The Haunted Mansion 999 happy haunts have set up permanent residency at this classic Magic Kingdom attraction, but don’t worry — there’s always room for ONE more! Parents Can Be Weird, Especially if They’re an Imagineer A lot of us seem to think our parents were a little “off” when we were growing up, but the spawn of Disney’s Imagineers might have more of a reason to feel that way! D23 recently shared a story about Imagineer, Leota Toombs, who originally portrayed Madame Leota, The Haunted Mansion’s psychic medium. Haunted Mansion It seems one evening her daughter (and future Disney Imagineer herself!), Kim Irvine, was headed to a school dance. Her date came by the house and overheard “Madame Leota” rehearsing her incantations. Kim’s shocked date turned to her and asked, “Wow, what’s up with your mom??” “it’s a small world” On the Happiest Cruise to Ever Set Sail, you’ll also be treated to the hardest song to get out of your head! “There is just one moon and one golden sun…” Even though a lot of us know these lyrics to it’s a small world, did you know the attraction itself does NOT have just “one moon and one golden sun?” it’s a small world In fact, each “room” you enter has a moon and sun somewhere within! See if you can spot them all on your next cruise! Jungle Cruise The jokes may be corny, but where else could you see the backside of water? Cleaner Than It Looks, But We Still Wouldn’t Drink It! For health reasons, Disney World ensures all of the water it uses for attractions is clean. So why is Jungle Cruise’s water so murky-looking? Jungle Cruise According to World of Walt, Disney World actually dyes the water a dingy greenish-brown in order to conceal the tracks of its boats. And don’t worry — the river is only about 4 feet at its deepest point — like we got to see recently when one of the Jungle Cruise’s boats actually SANK with passengers on it! (*Cue sad elephant trumpeting sound effect*) Mad Tea Party The March Hare and Mad Hatter might not be in attendance, but this little guy sure is! Gettin’ Dizzy with the Dormouse Did you know one of Alice’s super-rare friends from Wonderland makes a frequent cameo appearance at Magic Kingdom? Next time you go for a spin on the Mad Tea Party, direct your attention to the large teapot in the center of the ring! Mad Tea Party You’ll get to see the Dormouse peak his head out of its top — but only occasionally! He’s really sleepy, though, so don’t expect him to hang around for very long — he’s gotta catch his zzzs when he can! The Dormouse has only been known to pop up at Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland, even though there’s a version of iconic teacup ride at almost every Disney park in the world! Main Street Vehicles We’d love to see the odometers on these sweet buggies that have been cruising along Main Street for almost half a century! Regular Maintenance Required Disney World has a literal fleet of streetcars, and jitneys — all of which are ACTUAL antique vehicles! These old-timey whips have been providing one-way rides up and down Main Street U.S.A. since Magic Kingdom opened. Main Street, U.S.A. in the Fall For the most part, these already-quite-old cars are the same ones the parks used since 1971! Let that be a friendly reminder to get your oil changed ON TIME next time you try to procrastinate! Peter Pan’s Flight You can usually expect a long wait for this classic dark ride if you didn’t snag a FastPass+. But even if you have to fly standby, the queue area has awesome theming to make the time fly by. What Do The Haunted Mansion and Peter Pan’s Flight Have in Common? Is this a trick question? No! Peter Pan’s Flight Both classic Disney rides use a Omnimover track system, but instead of climbing into a Haunted Mansion doombuggy which glides along the ground, you’ll be suspended from the ceiling when you board your galleon on Peter Pan’s Flight! Prince Charming Regal Carrousel (Formerly Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel) Even Walt Disney knew no theme park could call itself complete without a carrousel — that’s why he had to find the perfect one for his grand design. Not So Custom-Made Prince Charming Regal Carrousel looks like it was made for its magical space! It fits with the vibe and charm of Fantasyland perfectly! But did you know the classic Disney World attraction actually dates back to 1917?? Prince Charming Regal Carrousel According to Disney Trivia, Walt Disney purchased the carousel for Disney World in 1967 from the Olympic Park in Maplewood, New Jersey. The carrousel was originally built 50 years earlier by The Philadelphia Toboggan Company, one of the most prestigious carousel companies. The original carrousel included ninety horses, all of which were hand-carved from wood. Disney added eleven fiberglass horses while still making sure no two horses were alike! Snow White’s Scary Adventures Disneyland’s Snow White’s Scary Adventures is still around, but Disney World’s was lost due to the expansion of new Fantasyland. It’s Scary, but Where’s Snow White? Snow White’s Scary Adventures was replaced by Princess Fairytale Hall, but believe it or not, some folks just thought this ride was too darn scary! ©Disney If you got the chance to ride it back in the day, you probably remember what we’re talking about! It seemed like the Evil Queen was chasing us down from the word GO! In fact, the original ride didn’t even include Snow White until 1994 when it was refurbished! By then, it had already gotten a reputation for scaring the pants of little kids, so Disney World’s version shut down for good in 2012. Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse Tarzan has taken over Disneyland’s treehouse, but the Robinson family is still in possession of Magic Kingdom’s treehouse. But, It’s Not a TREE at ALL! We hate to ruin the magic for you, but the Swiss FamilyRobinson Treehouse is a big misnomer. This opening day attraction is technically classified as a building. Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse Hey, certain permits mandate we call it like it is, but the artificial structure does technically have “root system.” According to Undercover Tourist, Swiss Family Robinson’s Treehouse’s infrastructure goes four stories into the ground. That’s a long way down from the 116 steps it takes to climb to its top! Tomorrowland Speedway Tomorrowland Speedway was closed for some time, but it recently reopened last spring with even more VROOM! Going For a Victory Lap! Previously known as the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway, the word Indy was dropped from its name in 2009. Tomorrowland Speedway According to AllEars, cars can travel at a speed of up to 7.5 miles per hour. And, did you know it’s customary for a checkered flag to be waved at every driver who crosses the finish line? Walt Disney World Railroad Although the Walt Disney World Railroad isn’t currently running due to TRON Lightcycle Run construction, we can’t wait to go on loop as soon as it reopens! Give a Little Whistle! Here’s something else you probably haven’t heard: Walt Disney World Railroad’s whistles are very important! Sure, they add theming and ambiance to Magic Kingdom when the steam-powered engines are runnin’, but they’re also how the train conductors communicate with each other! The Walt Disney Railroad According to Disney Fanatic, the short or long ‘blow’ patterns tell when a train is approaching a station, making a general greeting, in forward or reverse motion, or if there is an emergency. If you’re ever curious, ask a conductor to translate the whistle blows for you! Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room A serenade from our feathery friends is pretty entertaining, right?? New Management Was Fired — Literally! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! At least, that’s how we feel about some of Disney’s most sacred pieces of history such as the Enchanted Tiki Room! That’s why you may recall a dark time in history (circa 1998) when the don’t-mess-with-a-good-thing attraction re-emerged as “The Enchanted Tiki Room: Under New Management”. Enchanted Tiki Room In this version, Iago, from Aladdin, and Zazu, from The Lion King, decided to run the joint their way. It was all well and good until one day. According to Disney Lists, the Iago animatronic actually caught on fire during a performance in January of 2011. Shortly after, the “new management” was let go and the original version was reinstated. Cinderella Castle and Main Street USA in Disney World Well, there you have it friends! Disney World is currently in the midst of the lengthiest closure in its history and things could look a LOT different when the theme parks reopen. Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Today, we’re taking a look at what the current situation means for the future of Disney World. Will things really change? (Yes.) How much? (Hmm…) Nothing’s certain yet, but we can get an idea of where we’re headed by taking a look at history and similar situations — even some very recent ones. Phased and Limited Capacity Reopenings Of Parks, Attractions, Hotels, and Restaurants If the parks reopen soon, it’s likely they’ll be subject to several modifications. These could include the parks, hotels, and attractions themselves opening in phases or being changed to accommodate social distancing necessity. What We Can Learn From What’s Happening in Shanghai Shanghai Disneyland has been closed since late January, but a few weeks ago, the resort began a phased reopening. As the parks remained closed, Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Disneytown opened with some restrictions on March 9th. ©Disney The reopened locations in Shanghai are currently operating under limited capacity and with reduced hours of operation. In addition, all guests have to undergo temperature screenings and wear masks for the whole of their visit. Of course, extensive cleaning processes are also a priority with the reopening. This system of modifications and precautions could be indicative of what we can expect when Disney World reopens. If it follows Shanghai’s model, it’s likely that we will see Disney Springs and some of the resort hotels reopen initially with the parks following at a later date. Disney Springs What We Can Learn From Past Disney World Closures We can also look at the past times that Disney World has closed to see what a reopening might look like. Disney World has closed for seven hurricanes since 1999: Floyd, Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Matthew, Irma, and Dorian. Each time, the parks reopened as soon as it was safe. Sometimes, that meant a partial reopening while attractions or parks were evaluated for damage and safety. The only non-hurricane closure prior to the present was September 11th, 2001. The parks reopened the following day with added security measures. Cinderella Castle What we can glean from past closures is that Disney World will reopen as soon as it is safe (whenever that may be) and is perfectly capable of doing a phased reopening. With the cause of the closures, Disney may opt to introduce added health measures much like the updated security measures in 2001, but more on that in a moment. Possible Modifications to Rides and Attractions Themselves The way that Disney World attractions are run could see some modifications when the parks reopen in response to the current health situation. If social distancing is still a factor when Disney World reopens, people won’t always be able to maintain a six-foot distance from one another the way things currently stand! We may see a change to certain ride or show experiences. For example, the stretching room in the Haunted Mansion is usually packed full of people in the “dead center” of the room. A social-distancing focused solution could result in the reduction of capacity for the pre-show, or pre-shows being bypassed altogether. In that case, it would be straight to the doom buggies. Haunted Mansion May have Modifications When Disney World Reopens Show and theater-based attractions could see some changes, too as Disney strives to keep guests safe. The Enchanted Tiki Room, Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage, Festival of the Lion King, and more theater attractions could introduce lowered capacity measures or canceled altogether. Remember that many of the first businesses to close around the country were live theaters — they may be the last to reopen as well. Festival of the Lion King So, when the parks reopen, be patient with any unexpected changes. Rides might not be quite as you expected, but all of the modifications are in the interest of keeping guests and Cast Members safe. Entering Magic Kingdom Possible Limited Land Capacity? Disney may also choose to make some changes to how we wait for popular attractions or areas. Queues could have reduced capacities so that people can maintain their space. Toy Story Land And entire lands may reduce their capacities as well. Maybe we will see the reintroduction of boarding groups to get into actual lands like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge or Toy Story Land and not just to get onto specific attractions. More Virtual Queues? It’s possible that we’ll start seeing the use of virtual queues more often, too! This is what’s currently being used for Rise of the Resistance in Disney World and Disneyland, and consists of guests booking a spot in a virtual queue via their smartphone in order to avoid waiting in endless lines. When their “boarding group” is called, they head over from wherever they are to ride the attraction. Closed Rise Boarding Group An unexpected benefit of virtual queues is that they reduce the amount of time guests are in close contact with one another. In a time where social distance is important, it would be ideal to have a few more virtual queues in the parks versus hours-long queue lines full of people. Obviously, this wouldn’t be rolled out for every attraction, but some of the more popular attractions could easily benefit from a boarding group system that’s similar to Rise of the Resistance! One possible side effect of these reduced capacities is that there will potentially be longer crowded periods for new attractions and lands. For instance, when a new attraction opens, like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in Epcot, limited capacity may mean that fewer people can ride it per day. If this is the case, it will take longer than usual for e-ticket attractions to have their wait times normalize. If you need tips on how to work the virtual queue in Disney World, click here! Crowd Roulette Such an unprecedented closure is going to have an effect on crowd levels as well, so we want to be conscious of what crowds may look like with a potentially phased reopening and beyond. Even with the widespread panic in response to the world health crisis, many — especially local residents and Annual Passholders — will still want to go to Disney World when things begin to calm down. Just look at the crowd levels just days before the closure began! In fact, the parks reopening may have a large draw as many take it as a sign of a return to normalcy. Casey’s Corner However, phased closures could have some effect on the numbers as fewer people will want to be in Disney World if everything is not up and running or open for business. And crowds could be lower initially due to lingering fears regarding the current global health situation. While crowds could increase later this year when those who rescheduled their Spring trips begin to visit the parks, initial crowds could be lower than in previous years. Click here to learn more about what crowd levels could look like in Disney World this year! Increased Focus on Health Precautions and Cleanliness Industries and individuals around the world are putting a major focus on health precautions right now — and that includes Disney. Even as the world health crisis begins to abate, it will still be important and recommended that cleanliness and safety are made a priority. Here’s how we might see that applied in Disney World. Health Checks and Cleansing Options for Guests Now just because it’s deemed safe enough for the parks to reopen does NOT mean that things are going to be quite like they used to be. In fact, it will still be important for Guests and Cast Members to be health-conscious and some of those considerations may continue permanently. For example, we may see health screenings (such as a no-touch temperature check) implemented at the park gates for a little while. We saw this in Disneyland Paris before the closure and we’re seeing it in Shanghai Disneyland now. Park Entrance We’ve also seen the addition of hand-washing stations and sanitizing stations around the Disney World parks; those will likely remain in the interest of cleanliness. If there’s one thing that health officials are recommending in the current crisis, it’s to keep those hands clean! Even after the parks reopen, this will likely be a continued habit for many, so we don’t expect to see those hygiene stations going anywhere anytime soon. Hand-Washing Sign One potential consideration is the installation of permanent hand sanitizer stations at the entrances to restaurants, restrooms, and even attractions. This is already the norm on the Disney Cruise Line, so it follows that the same measure could be taken in the parks. Hand Washing Station Increased Cleaning of Public Spaces If the procedures prior to the parks’ closure are any indication, you can expect to see increased cleaning measures during the day. Especially right after reopening, Cast Members may be sanitizing surfaces much more regularly. Fantasyland hand-washing station How long ramped up cleaning measures will continue is hard to say, but Disney will likely continue to follow the recommendations of the CDC and other health officials. So, expect a heightened level of cleaning to be the new normal! Want to know more about the new hand-washing stations? Click here! Social Distancing Another BIG ONE. Just because the parks reopen doesn’t mean that social distancing won’t still be necessary. Until the world health crisis is completely under control, a global destination like Disney World may need to implement social distancing longer than other locations. It’s possible that there will be reduced capacity in attraction queues, restaurants, shows, and on Disney transportation. Bigger shows that encourage large, tightly packed groups (like Fantasmic or Happily Ever After) may be canceled for a time after reopening, too. Monorail Prior to the closures, domestic Disney parks implemented limitations on character meet and greets, and these may continue when the parks reopen. We also saw “no hugs” in Shanghai! These measures will be to protect Guests and characters from getting sick. Similarly, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and the spas may remain closed for a time as these locations require extensive cast member contact with guests. Cinderella Disney also has a lot of large scheduled events like media events, marathons, or even festivals. These larger events may have reduced capacity, be postponed, or be canceled altogether. Of course, we’ll keep you updated as we hear about any cancellations or postponements! 2020 Disney World Marathon Weekend ©Disney Click here to learn more about the spa and boutique closures! Dining Modifications Beyond restaurants having reduced capacity, we may see other changes in Disney dining rooms! For instance, it could be prudent for some (or all) buffets to swap to a family-style model for the time being. This would reduce guest contact with food that others will be eating. Hollywood and Vine Before the closure, there were also changes to character meals that we would expect to stay in place for a time after hotels or parks reopen. You may see fewer face characters or character contact in general. Donald Duck So, Disney could make the call to implement some sort of preventative measures in character dining spots for a while. You can bet that we’ll report on all new health measures at character meals as soon as the parks reopen! Want to know what we mean by “changes” to character meals? Click here! Cast Member Considerations Lastly, it’s entirely possible that there will be changes to how Disney handles sick Cast Members. Of course, Disney already encourages sick Cast Members to stay home from work but this could become a more regulated system. College Program Pins Plus, regular Cast Members aren’t the only ones who are feeling the effect of these closures. With the suspension of the Disney College Program we have to wonder: Will there be more limitations to the College Program? Will they accept fewer students? Time will tell! Click here to learn about the decision to temporarily suspend the Disney College Program. Will Your Trip Be Affected? So, what do all these changes mean for Disney trips immediately after opening? Well if there are any changes, you’ll see them on your vacay! And some of the measures that Disney takes could have a significant effect on your trip. Click here to see our thoughts on whether you should cancel your Disney World vacation in light of the circumstances. Pizzafari Family Style If you have questions about your upcoming vacation in light of the current situation, please take a look at our answers to your FAQs here, and also read our thoughts on whether you should cancel your upcoming vacation. Contacting Disney with your questions is always an option, but remember, there are many others who are dealing with the same inconveniences as you and have the same questions, so phone line waits may be long. Be respectful and kind when you do speak with a Cast Member and they’ll be happy to help and make things as right as they can with you. Guest Relations As of right now, all of these changes are speculation based on what’s happening in Shanghai, and what’s happened in Disney World and Disneyland Paris in the past. So, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on DFB to stay up to date on what to expect when you get to Disney after its reopening. Want to know if the Disney World closures could go on for even longer? If you’ve been following along with the at-home MAGIC that some of our favorite Disney friends are providing online right now, then you may already know that throughout this week, La Cava del Tequila mixologist Gustavo Ortega is sharing live lessons so YOU can make some of your La Cava favorites (or maybe try a new-to-you bevvy) from home! La Cava del Tequila in Epcot’s Mexico And with the fun continuing, we just had to share tonight’s featured drink: the Maelstrom Margarita! Gustavo will be joined tonight by special guest Eduardo Orendain from Tequila Arette. Maelstrom Margarita at La Cava del Tequila All you have to do is tune in to the live stream on La Cava del Tequila’s Instagram at 7:00 PM EST tonight! Now, if you’d like to do some prep work in advance , here’s a little background on the Maelstrom Margarita… Maelstrom The Maelstrom Margarita is, of course, a beverage tribute to the Maelstrom attraction, which was replaced in Epcot’s Norway pavilion by Frozen Ever After. But just because Maelstrom was closed, certainly doesn’t mean it didn’t have its own dedicated fan base. ©cavadeltequila So La Cava del Tequila created the Maelstrom Margarita (made with Premium Ambhar Tequila blanco, mango puree, orange liquor, and agave nectar with blueberries, habanero peppers, basil and a Tajin chili powder rim) in honor of the attraction which used to reside in Mexico’s neighboring pavilion of Norway. Remember: the lessons are taking place every night this week at 7:00 PM Eastern Time on @lacavadeltequila on Instagram Live! Have you tuned in to see any online Disney friends this week? Please let us know with a comment! We’ve been wondering how the current closures in Disneyland could affect the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival. It’s set to end on April 21st and that’s coming up soon! If closures get extended, there won’t be any chance to chow down again at all this year! 2020 Festival Passport Well, we were keeping an eye out for any new building permits coming to Disneyland when we spotted an extension to a permit for the Food and Wine booths! This extends the original end date on the permit to a new end date in September! Does this mean that the festival will be getting extended? Maybe! Here’s what we know! So, back in February, we spotted a permit for kiosks, refrigerators, merchandise pergolas, and shade trellis’ coming to Disney California Adventure for the Food and Wine Festival. This permit had the dates of February 24th through April 25th. Since the Food and Wine Fest was set to run from February 28th through April 21st, that leaves four days each for set up and takedown of the festival. Building Permit Now though, we’ve spotted a renewal to the permit that changes the dates from February 24th through SEPTEMBER 7TH. Wow! That’s quite the date change! This could mean that Disneyland is looking to extend the Food and Wine Festival in light of the recent closures. We sure hope so! Building Permit If we infer the same information from the original dates, that would mean that a four-day takedown would mean the new end date for the festival will be September 3rd. That would be really, really awesome considering the closures. There’s nothing worse than having a festival cut short — especially a FOOD festival! 2020 Uncork California Booth Why This Might NOT Mean an Extension! Still, we have to remember that building permits can mean almost anything! An extension of this kind could mean that there will be delays in breaking down the festival booths due to the closure, and they want to make SURE they can get it done in the time they have permitted. They could even be taking everything else down on April 21st (as announced) and leaving the shade trellis’ up for a little extra help during the heat of the summer. Fiscalini White Cheddar Lager Soup The point is, we’re not too sure what this extension means. Still, it does make us optimistic. And at the very least it shows that Disney is making alterations to their plans during the closures. On top of Disney World closing, Florida officials have been working together to do everything they can to protect the people living there. Think Happy Magic Kingdom Thoughts! While Orlando has already instituted a curfew and an order to shelter in place in Orange County, Osceola County is following up with its own safety measures. According to WFTV, Osceola County has also enacted an order to shelter in place starting on March 26th at 11 PM. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge The order will last for two weeks until April 9th, and all non-essential businesses will be closing during that time as well. Until then, the curfew in Osceola County is still in effect from 11 PM until 5 AM. While we haven’t had an official statement on an extended closure from Disney yet, this ultimately means that Disney World’s property is under shelter in place, too since it is located in both Osceola and Orange County. With all that is going on in the world these days, we think it’s safe to say a lot of us are feeling uncertainty about the future. And if you have a trip to Disney World planned in the next couple months, you may be feeling extra stress because you have to make the call of whether to cancel your Disney trip or not. Cinderella Castle and Main Street USA in Disney World Although we can’t find you a treasure trove of toilet paper or make you the world’s best homeschooler overnight, we can help in the Disney planning department! Here are a few things you should be considering while you’re wondering whether to cancel outright, reschedule, or actually take your trip to Disney World. When will Disney World really reopen? When Disney first announced the closure, April 1st sure sounded like a long way away. But, we are only a week away from the end of the currently stated closure dates. If you have turned on the news between your loop of Frozen 2 streams (Just us? Cool.), you may have seen the Mayor of Orange County, Florida issued a “stay in place” order beginning Thursday, March 26th, and lasting at least two weeks. Tree of Life We aren’t mathematicians (or licensed therapists, oops) buuuuut we aren’t sure that Disney Parks opening to the public will fall under the exempt “essential businesses,” so that April 1st reopening sounds a BIT ambitious. Shanghai Disneyland Resort began to reopen to open certain shopping, dining, and recreation areas earlier this month after initially closing down about two months ago. ©Disney Although the closures may not directly mirror those in Shanghai, we want you to be prepared. We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more information, but if you had your sights set on rope dropping next weekend, you may want to rethink your plans. Check out our full post addressing whether we think the parks will really open April 1st here! And check out our post on the closure timelines and what they mean for reopening here. What will the parks be like when they reopen? Even when the parks reopen, they could NOT be what you expected when you originally booked your vacation. Phased Reopenings Or Necessary Attraction Closures, and Lower Hotel and Restaurant Capacity Although we will be thrilled when we hear word of Disney World reopening, we have to wonder if they will follow Shanghai Disneyland’s lead and open the resorts, parks, or even attractions in phases. With the importance of “flattening the curve” and social distancing, we could see Disney lower capacity in hotels, parks, and restaurants all throughout Disney World. Fantasyland Crowds It may not be feasible to socially distance in certain queues or attractions, so could your favorite ride be closed down or at least modified as a result? I mean, the Haunted Mansion stretching room certainly isn’t ideal if we’re all trying to avoid passing around germs. Will you still be able to have the full-on Disney World trip you were hoping for even if you face unexpected ride closures? It all depends on you and your family, your expectations, and what a Disney World visit needs to be for you to enjoy it and consider it worth the cost. Haunted Mansion May have Modifications When Disney World Reopens Remember, phased reopenings, limited capacity decisions, and ride modifications are a long way off — and definitely NOT confirmed by Disney. But they do seem like a good way for Disney to reopen more safely. So if your trip is scheduled for the first few months the park may reopen, consider carefully if a half-open or modified park experience will be worth your vacation time and cost outlay, or if you’d rather reschedule for later in the year — or even 2021 — to have a better chance of taking the vacation you expected to take originally. Potential Crowd Pattern Changes Again, we really don’t know 1) When the parks will reopen, 2) If people will flood the parks as soon as they reopen (people may continue so socially distance for safety’s sake), 3) If economic difficulty will prohibit many guests from taking Disney trips this year, and 4) If guests will want to spend money to go to parks that may be modified for safety concerns. But we are anticipating that the current closures will reposition at least a portion of the Spring Break crowds to later in the year. Tomorrowland Speedway Line If your schedule is flexible, you may be better off to avoid the summer months and aim for a trip in the fall when schools are back in session, or potentially early in 2021. Check out our post ALL about how these closures could affect Disney World crowds levels this year HERE! What type of planner are you? In the midst of these closures, nearly everyone’s normal routine has been thrown off. The chaos may be less of a jolt for the more “go with the flow” folks, but both Type A and Type B personalities have to make the call of whether to wait it out or reschedule their trip for various reasons. Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire If you’re more of a “fly by the seat of your pants” type planner, or if you’re a Florida resident or Annual Passholder who’s been to Disney World multiple times, you may be able to get away with taking things one day at a time and making the most of whatever your trip ends up looking like. Slinky Dog Dash Sign But, if you have spent months (or years) planning the perfect Disney World trip and have a very clear vision for your BEST DAYS EVER in the parks (We’re sending you a virtual hug! Keep your Disney dreams alive!), it may be worth waiting on your trip until we have a better picture of what the future holds. What about Advance Dining Reservations and FastPasses? Speaking of planning, you may have set your alarm super early and/or assembled a whole squad to take on booking your Advance Dining Reservations or FastPasses. So, now what happens? Well, if you plan to reschedule your trip, your fastpasses and advance dining reservations can’t go with you to the new dates at this time. (Disney has not created a policy allowing us to just pick up our whole planned vacation and move it to new dates.) You’d have to modify current reservations or re-book all of them. And if your rescheduled dates fall within 180 days from now…it might be really difficult to construct the trip as you did before if you had chosen very popular or hard to get reservations. However, if you’re rescheduling your trip for more than 180 days out, you should be able to reconstruct the same vacation. It’ll just be a hassle, because you’ll have to get up early and master the reservations all over again. Fastpass Entrance for Splash Mountain Beware that your FastPasses may be linked to your Disney hotel reservation, so if you cancel or reschedule, it may wipe your FastPass reservations, too. Dining reservations often have a cancellation fee attached to them, so if you no-show while the parks are open, you’ll be charged (usually $10 per person on the reservation)…and that can add up. So if you decide to cancel or reschedule your vacation, be sure to also cancel your dining reservations if they don’t fall during a time that the parks are already closed. Can you get more (or different) vacation time? Getting super logistical here: you may have been planning your trip to Disney World for over a year now. You requested the vacation time from your employer months ago and you may not have the flexibility to push your time off to a few weeks later. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party 2019 Consider this when choosing to reschedule or cancel: do you HAVE to take the vacation time you secured?, can you postpone the vacation time until a later date?, what kind of penalties will you encounter if you do so? All of these answers can help you decide whether to just go for it and take the vacation regardless of what the parks are like, or save the time off for later when you can be assured of a great vacation. So should I cancel? When to Wait it Out Very little is certain right now — on a global scale and a local Orlando scale. We don’t know how this situation is going to evolve, or how long it will take to return to some sort of “normal.” If your trip is scheduled for April through July, it’s much more difficult to predict how things will pan out than if it’s scheduled for September to December or in 2021. Our advice to guests with trips scheduled in April is to wait to cancel (if you can) until Disney World announces an official closure extension. This way, you can take advantage of the best possible refunds and rescheduling flexibility. 2019 Epcot Food and Wine Festival If your trip is scheduled for later in the year, hopefully the points we made above in this article will be helpful for you as you come to your own conclusions that are best for your family. How To Reschedule Easily If you are already in the window of refund or rescheduling flexibility and decide to go ahead and change your plans, check out our how-to guide for rescheduling or canceling and refunding your Disney trip here!
