  6. We’ve got big news for Star Wars fans and cake fans and even bigger news for Star Wars Cakes fans! Earlier this year, Food Network’s “Buddy Vs Duff 2” final challenge, Buddy “The Cake Boss” and Duff “The Ace of Cakes” Goldman were summoned by stormtroopers from a galaxy far, far away. Kirstin Makela, Art Director with Walt Disney Imagineering, commissioned the award-winning bakers to create their biggest, most elaborate cakes yet to celebrate May the 4th – also known as Star Wars Day. Buddy, Duff and their respective teams explored Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Disneyland Resort for some inspiration. They experienced Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, as well as Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, built custom lightsabers and droids, and ended the night with a meal inside Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. The judges reveal the winner of this year’s competition inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, hosted by the legendary Billy Dee Williams. Also on hand were Andi Gutierrez and Anthony Carboni from The Star Wars Show, the only monthly 20-minute(ish) look at all-things Star Wars, featuring news, behind-the-scenes features and special guests. You’ve got to tune in to the 90-minute finale on Food Network Sunday, May 3 at 9pm | 8c to see these galactic, mouthwatering masterpieces! View the full article
  7. Today we’re taking you along with us to the height of luxury in Disney World Dining. Victoria and Albert’s Main Dining Room Book a babysitter for the littlest kiddos and put on your “going out” clothes, because we are heading to the land where chocolates are served with white gloves and truffles abound! We’re dining at Victoria and Albert’s! This high end, “Signature Dining Experience” is located inside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and it’s so upscale that it even has a dress code and age limit. Men are required to wear dinner jackets with dress pants and women must wear a dress, skirt, or pantsuit and guests must be at least 10 years old to dine here! The Girls with Chef Scott Hunnel The menu can rotate, especially with the seasons, but Disney describes it as “modern American cuisine crafted with exquisite ingredients from around the world.” It gets a whopping four $$$$ from Disney’s website which means dinner here is over $60, and we’ll go ahead and warn you that you will spend well over that $60… . Atmosphere They have three different dining experiences here. The Chef’s Table is situated right in the kitchen (which we’ve enjoyed a number of times!) The Chef’s Table hosts one party at a time, allows guests to interact with the sous chef, and offers a front-row look into the bustling kitchen. Victoria and Albert’s Chefs Table Chef Joe prepares Octopus in the Victoria and Albert’s Kitchen The Queen Victoria’s Room seats a maximum of 8 guests across 4 tables in a more intimate setting than the Main Dining Room. It even has a working fireplace that is nice and toasty to sit next to! Victoria Room at Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort But this time around, we dined in the Main Dining Room. There are only 2 seatings per night, so even this main room is still super-exclusive – which means you should try and snag that Advance Dining Reservation early, friends (like frantically clicking refresh on the reservation page right at 7AM on the dot, early! It books up FAST!). The word we find ourselves thinking over and over when we visit Victoria and Albert’s is “FANCY.” Victoria and Albert’s Chandelier The dining room features small tables, intricate décor, muted colors, fresh flowers, and white tablecloths. Main Dining Room at Victoria & Albert’s Victoria & Albert’s Place Setting Each table will have a waiter and an assistant waiter to tend to them for the evening. On our visit, we had the wonderful Malek as our waiter and Christina as our assistant waiter. They were so attentive and open to wonderful conversation all night. It was a treat to hear about both of their journeys working at Disney World. Waiters at Victoria & Albert’s To add to the experience, there is a live harpist playing most evenings in the Main Dining Room! She played everything from modern hits to Disney classics and we were cheering for her by the end of the night! She went from Coldplay’s “Clocks” to “When You Wish Upon A Star” to David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” like a straight-up BOSS. Seriously — she was aaahmazing. Victoria and Albert’s Harpist And because you might be as fascinated by restrooms in classy joints as we are, it’s even an experience to “take a trip to the loo” at Victoria & Albert’s. Meaning we were escorted by the waitstaff — not unlike a princess — to the potty! It’s in the restaurant and right down a hall, but being walked to the restroom was still…an experience! Another touch we loved? Ladies get a cushion for their purses or, in our case, cell phones! Our phones have never felt so classy in all their lives! Victoria and Albert’s Belongings Cushion Enough about the phone pillows, rocking harpists, and fancy potties — let’s EAT! Drinks We started off with an iced tea and leave it to Victoria & Albert’s to even make iced tea fancy. What’s the worst part about iced tea? The ice melting and diluting your tea, right? So at Victoria & Albert’s, each iced tea is served with iced tea ice cubes! The waiter left a small carafe of tea for refills, but as the ice melted, he brought out new glasses of fresh tea cubes! Such a nice touch. Iced Tea If that wasn’t the height of luxury — we briefly took our straw out of our cup, and a STRAW REST appeared as if from nowhere. We were today years old when we found out (1) straw rests exist and (2) we need more of these in our lives! Straw Rest They also have Sulawesi Island Coffee by Joffrey’s, Tea, and a full menu of cocktails or mocktails if you are not drinking. Our main server was named Malek and he said he came up with most of the mocktails himself for younger guests to enjoy. They were so popular, they were added to the full drink menu! Soooo we had a celebrity as our waiter, NBD. We also tried out the Cosmopolitan which was served with a Morello cherry on this dainty (and sharp…whoops) skewer. Cosmopolitan Cosmopolitan Skewer What’s a menu you won’t find in most places? How ’bout a FULL water menu in case you’ve ever wondered what an iceberg tastes like (spoiler alert: it tastes like regular water). Water Menu at Victoria & Albert’s We got regular old water because we decided to put our drink funds towards the optional wine pairing. Each pour is smaller than a traditional glass, but our waiter said you typically end up with about 3-4 glasses by the end of your meal. Eats Chef’s Degustation Menu typically serves an 8-10 course menu with “enhancements available” (you’ll see why the amount of courses gets dicey later…we lost count). Victoria and Albert’s Menu Don’t be daunted by 8-10 courses. They’re small portions with a focus on tasting and enjoying the foods. Bread Our assistant waiter served us freshly baked, warm bread throughout the meal. Victoria and Albert’s Bread They bake all the breads fresh in house and they are served by your assistant waiter. So don’t expect to order another basket for the ole table! You could probably ask for more if you wanted, but we tried to make our first piece last — which is especially difficult when it came with a perfect quenelle of unsalted butter (You can kind of see it but…we ate it. Whoops!). There’s That Butter, Hiding in the Background! We also couldn’t get over the Maldon sea salt served in a Himalayan salt cup to season your butter. We resisted the urge to lick the cup just to prove it was really made of salt. This is a classy joint, after all. We really shouldn’t be allowed in nice places. Himalayan salt cup We may have warned to not fill up too much on bread in the past, but TBH, we enjoyed the breads way too much to let them go to waste. First Course (Amuse-Bouche) The first course — or “amuse-bouche” – is meant to warm up your palate for the meal ahead. During our visit, they served Imperial Caviar with Alaskan King Crab. Imperial Caviar with Alaskan King Crab It was served with a PEARL spoon since metal can alter the flavor of the caviar. Pearl Spoon The crab was tasty – very mild, cold, and fresh and the caviar tasted…mostly salty. We don’t presume to be caviar experts, so our review tapped out at, “It’s lil’ fishy eggs. They pop in your mouth if you like that sort of thing?” Imperial Caviar with Alaskan King Crab We aren’t the biggest fans of caviar (obviously!), but if you are, Victoria & Albert’s offers an enhancement to this course that lets you sample three more types of caviar for a mere $295! The International Caviar Tasting includes French Siberian Osetra, American Snake River White Sturgeon, and Royal Platinum caviars. This first course also kicked off our wine pairings for the night with Ruinart Blanc de Blancs. Second Course The second course was New Zealand Langoustine with Passion Fruit Nuoc Cham. In case you need that broken down (like we did), a langoustine is kind of like if you could mix a lobster with a shrimp. It’s served with a fruity Vietnamese sweet and sour sauce. New Zealand Langoustine with Passion Fruit Nuoc Cham It was served cold and the tart passion fruit really came through. We had already had a stellar langoustine with a green onions sauce on a previous visit, so that one was hard to beat, but this version sure put up a fight! This course was paired with Inama Vulcaia Fume from Veneto. Third Course The third course brought along more seafood – and we weren’t complaining! It was Glacier 51 Toothfish and Nantucket Scallops with Dill and Potato Glass. Glacier 51 Toothfish is found 2,000 meters below sea level in the sub-Antarctic. So, it’s kind of a big deal. We tipped our hat to the brave fishermen and women who helped get this delicacy to our table and dug in! Glacier 51 Toothfish and Nantucket Scallops with Dill and Potato Glass The fish was very mild and delicious. That potato glass was really cool though. It melted on our tongues and tasted…like potatoes! The dill flower on top added a little extra boost of flavor and color. We opted for the extra enhancement to this course (which was really just an extra course). It was Wild Turbot with Toasted Capers and Preserved Lemon for $35.00. Wild Turbot with Toasted Capers and Preserved Lemon Our waiter told us about how rare these fish are and how they only get one or two at a time flown in fresh from the North Sea. While it was delicious, if we are pitting fancy fish against fancy fish, we would have to opt for the Toothfish. Don’t get us wrong, both were tasty, but we thought the Toothfish was very mild and sweet. This course was paired with De Montille Chateau Puligmy. Third — and a Half — Course A rogue short rib made its way out to the table between the third and fourth courses and our server insisted we try it – but it didn’t take much convincing. The Kobe Short Rib with Romanesco and Cauliflower Puree was served on a hot plate made of stone. The meat was tender and flavorful and the cauliflower was surprisingly a nice addition! Kobe Short Rib with Romanesco and Cauliflower Puree Aside: At this point, we were reminded of how it felt like our waiter was kindly walking alongside us during this dining experience. He was very attentive and was focused on us enjoying the meal instead of rushing us along. During one of the courses, he brought out a wine to pour, but once he got to the table, he changed his mind and went back to pick something he thought would pair better. So this is much more than a meal where you just work down the menu and check the boxes. The service is just as much of a sight to behold as the food. Fourth Course Back to our regularly scheduled meal with the fourth, or poultry course! Next up was Maple-glazed Manchester Quail with Chestnut Gnocchi and a Soft Boiled Quail Egg. Maple-glazed Manchester Quail with Chestnut Gnocchi and a Soft Boiled Quail Egg The quail was tender and tasty, but the sweet sauce was the BOMB. The gnocchi was flavorful and we really could have eaten a whole bowl of it. The quail egg was creamy and similar in texture to the gnocchi, but for us, the gnocchi stole the show here. This course was paired with Don AntonionNero & Avola Riserva from Sicily. Fifth Course First off — BREAD BREAK! This time we were served an herbed compound butter. Herbed Butter Bread break over, we were off to the next course. The fifth course was a Texas Wild Boar with Elote and ‘Salsa Verde.’ Texas Wild Boar with Elote and ‘Salsa Verde’ The boar tasted more like beef than pork to us — it was robust and tender. The meat (and the whole plate) was dusted in a chipotle spice that added an extra kick. The elote, aka seasoned corn, was served two ways: grilled corn on the cobb and a baby corn covered in spices and cheese. Texas Wild Boar with Elote and ‘Salsa Verde’ The presentation was beautiful, but we couldn’t get over the precious tiny corn – it was almost too cute to eat (ALMOST). A few glasses of wine and lots of food in, we were struck with every impulse to pick up the baby corn with our bare hands and eat it like a cartoon character (don’t worry, we resisted!). We were already loving this plate but then we tried the salsa verde. Salsa Verde This sauce is normally tomatillos and green chili peppers blended together, but somehow Victoria & Albert’s made this salsa verde taste like they liquefied the best steak fajitas you can imagine and turned them into a fluffy sauce. If we weren’t being our fanciest selves, we may have asked for a bucket of this to go because we NEED this “fajita sauce” in our life. The boar, corn, and apparently-not-really-fajita sauce were paired with Finca Valpiedra Reserva from Rioja. Sixth Course Closing in on what we might call the “main course,” number six was an Australian Kobe Style Beef Steakhouse Style. But we decided two types of wagyu beef were better than one, so we went all out with the Miyazaki Japanese Beef Enhancement for $60.00 extra. Australian Kobe Style Beef Steakhouse Style Here’s where the truffles come in. Freshly shaved Italian White Truffles, that is. They actually are part of an enhancement you’ll see in a bit that came out with the steak course. Each person received a small dish of shaved truffles and the assistant waiter used fancy tongs to carefully place a few truffle slices on our Australian beef. Australian Kobe Style Beef Steakhouse Style (left) and Miyazaki Japanese Beef (right) It’s hard to say whether it was just the truffles talking, but we loved the Australian beef. Australian Kobe Style Beef Steakhouse Style with Truffles The Miyazaki was served with a mild steak sauce and the meat melted in our mouths. We’ve had this incredibly delicious beef before in Disney World (including the REALLY authentic stuff at Morimoto Asia) and if you are in any way a lover of steak, we highly recommend you taste it at least once. Miyazaki beef So the bottom line: they were both crazy good, but truffles won for us by a hair (we know, not a fair fight). Our beef was served with what we would (not so delicately) call chipotle onion rings and a mac and cheese florette. It was basically mega fancy comfort food for sides! Australian Kobe Style Beef Steakhouse Style (left) and Miyazaki beef (right) These were both fun sides for fancy steak, but they were going up against some stunners on the plate and didn’t end up being all too memorable. This course was paired with Croix Canon Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Since we had decided early on we were going all out on this meal, we didn’t think twice when we heard there was a pasta upgrade to this course. Here’s where the dish of truffles comes in. Enter the Tagliatelle Pasta with (you guessed it) Italian White Truffles for $95. Yes, we might have blacked out for a few moments at the thought of a hundred dollar TINY bowl of pasta, but guys: WORTH IT. Our assistant waiter placed the majority of our truffles atop the pasta. We showed as much restraint as humanly possible and ate the crazy good steak FIRST so we could enjoy this after (the struggle is real, guys!). Tagliatelle Pasta with Italian White Truffles So up until this point, it may be clear just how much we were enjoying our meal. None of it compared to this pasta. This was hands down the BEST thing we ate all night (or really, all of our LIVES!). If you add anything to your meal, please let it be this pasta. The bowl was tiny but SO rich that we almost tapped out. But we pressed on for you, dear reader. It was crazy filling but the rich taste and smell of the truffles were absolutely heavenly both throughout the sauce and on top. If ONLY there was such a thing as a scratch and sniff computer screen!! Tagliatelle Pasta with Italian White Truffles Since the truffle life had chosen us, this course was served with truffle brioche bread and truffle butter. (Sensing a theme yet?) Truffle Brioche Bread with Truffle Butter Truffle Butter You may think this would have been truffle overkill by now, but think AGAIN. This bread was melt-in-your-mouth incredible and we were all fighting over the truffle butter. How many truffles are too many truffles? Answer: The limit does not exist. Seventh Course On to the seventh and penultimate course! We started winding down the night with a Selection of Cheese from the Market. Our server rolled up a cheese cart and asked if we had preferences after explaining the selection of cheeses. Cheese cart We opted for him to make us a plate of everything, per his suggestion, and got to sampling. I wish I could tell you what cheeses these were guys, but honestly, I was still deep in the thralls of a truffle coma. I DO remember the second from the left…it was truffle cheese. The cheeses were served with dried apricot, grapes on the vine, honeycomb, Marcona almonds, and croutons to make a palette of flavors to mix together. Cheese Palette We tried so many combinations it’s hard to say which cheeses were stand-outs, but we had no trouble clearing our plates so — interpret that as you will. The cheese course was paired with Triana Pedro Ximemez, “La Gitana,” Seleción Napoleon NV. Dessert Course For our dessert course, we started off with a dessert not listed on the menu: a Guava Terrarium. It had a thin, crispy sugar top our waiter recommended we crack into the cup with our spoon and eat it all in one or two quick bites. Guava Terrarium It was fresh, tasty, and had bits of guava jelly that added extra sweetness. But after our tangy dessert, we moved on to the decadent finale: Trinitario Chocolate Mousse and Avocado Gelato. Trinitario Chocolate Mousse and Avocado Gelato The chocolate mousse was served three ways – all delicious – but RICH. It’s hard to see here, but the cone of chocolate was filled with Cajeta, or caramel made from goat’s milk. The avocado gelato was the real dark horse star of this dessert. It was cool, creamy, and paired surprisingly well with the chocolate. We ordered coffee to go with dessert, and in classic Victoria & Albert’s style, this was no typical coffee. We’ve had it here before, but we were still just as mesmerized by the coffee siphon. Coffee Syphon It was already heating up while we were finishing up the cheese course, but once the water boiled, the siphon pulled it up to the top with the grounds. Once all the water made its way to the top, the pressure pulled the fresh coffee down into the pot below! Coffee Syphon If two desserts weren’t enough, the waiter brought out a tray of handmade filled chocolates and served them to us with white gloves(!!!). White Glove Chocolate Truffle Service By this point, we had just about ordered the WHOLE menu and were the only party left in the dining room. Our waiter kindly boxed up our chocolates to go so we could enjoy them on less stuffed stomachs. Since we were dining there for a birthday, the staff kindly offered us a small loaf of Victoria and Albert’s orange date bread to take home as well – which served as a great breakfast the next morning! Before leaving, each woman received a long-stemmed rose (we ate our hearts out, we deserved it) and each guest was given a copy of the menu for the evening with their names on it. Rose for the ladies We rolled out of there stuffed and satisfied. Overall Victoria and Albert’s is truly an experience. From the décor, to the service, to the exquisite food — this really is a dinner like no other in Disney World (or probably back home, for that matter). With a base price tag of $235 per guest and the optional wine pairing available for $150 extra (not to mention the additional $190 we spent on enhancements like our truffle bonanza!), a trip to V&A’s isn’t your average quick date night out. But if you are willing to cough up some extra change, it can be a perfect place for a special celebration or to dine in a truly unique way. That said, if we have to choose, we still prefer the experience at the Chef’s Table to the Main Dining Room — it’s tough to beat that view and the chance interact with the chefs while they cook! As of now, the Chef’s Table is $15 more, and we love the more relaxed setting. However, the food in ALL of the rooms is divine, so it’s just a matter of whether you’re looking for an interactive or more formal dining experience. When it comes to fancy dining, it is really tough to beat Victoria and Albert’s. The service is impeccable, the food is gorgeous, and it makes for such a memorable overall experience. So if this is a must-do on your Disney World trip list, make sure to try and grab a reservation 180 days ahead, and don’t forget to pack your fancy pants! Note: Victoria and Albert’s Chef’s Table price will increase from $250 to $350 on August 30th, 2020. Check out our full review of Victoria and Albert’s Chef’s Table here! 10. We know we can count on Disney World to really deliver with the details! Storybook Dining at Artist Point There is no detail too small In Disney World! We love learning about all the Easter eggs, self-referential nods, and fun surprises the Imagineers slip into the parks. And Disney dining certainly isn’t left out of the fun! Here are seven restaurants with hidden secrets you WON’T want to miss! Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen The name Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen is a mouthful, so from now on, we’ll affectionately refer to it simply as Skipper Canteen! This restaurant is located in Magic Kingdom (Adventureland, to be more exact) and it’s chock-full of hidden details and nods to other Disney attractions. Which makes sense, since it’s based on the Jungle Cruise! Jungle Skipper Canteen Sign As soon as you enter the restaurant, keep an eye out for the portrait of Dr. Albert Falls. His name might ring a bell, especially if you’ve recently taken a trip on the Jungle Cruise! He’s the man for whom Schweitzer Falls is named (it IS the 8th Wonder of the World, after all!). Dr. Albert Falls The Jungle Cruise references are everywhere in this restaurant! Another one of our favorites is the crew bulletin board. Take a glance at the funny notes and newspaper clippings from the Skippers! Crew’s Bulletin Board There are also some deep cuts for those who remember the Adventurers Club at Pleasure Island. One of the dining rooms is known as the S.E.A. Room — which, of course, stands for the Society of Explorers and Adventurers! As it turns out, Dr. Falls was a member of this secret society and he used to hold meetings in the S.E.A. Room, which was previously hidden by the bookshelf you walk through to enter the room! S.E.A Room Speaking of those bookshelves you pass, be sure to take a look at the titles and authors! You’ll find references to Imagineers, attractions, and Disney history. There’s even a book titled “True Life Adventures” by W.E.D. — that’s right, Walter Elias Disney himself gets a shoutout! Oh, and it wouldn’t be in theme with the Jungle Cruise without puns. Take the book titled “Boat Evacuation Procedures,” which was fittingly penned by the author Cap. Size! We also love PRIMATES of the Caribbean (wonder how those nearby Pirates feel about that title!). Jungle Skipper Canteen Bookshelves There are TONS of hidden details, secrets, and references inside Skipper Canteen! Snag a reservation on your next trip and see how many more you can find! Check out our full review of Skipper Canteen (including MORE hidden details) here! Be Our Guest Restaurant Moving on to another Magic Kingdom location, Be Our Guest Restaurant also has some really cool details to keep an eye out for! Let’s start with the West Wing dining room! Be Our Guest West Wing While the atmosphere in the rest of the restaurant is warm and nostalgic, the lighting in the West Wing is super dark, giving it a spooky vibe. Enchanted Rose in West Wing Aside from housing the Enchanted Rose from the film, this room holds a painting of Prince Adam (AKA, The Beast before he was transformed), which is torn just like in the movie. Every once in a while, you’ll hear thunder and lighting will flash. Keep an eye on the painting when this happens because Prince Adam will transform into The Beast for a few moments! West Wing Beast Portrait Guests will also recognize the largest dining room, the Ballroom, from the iconic movie scene where Belle and The Beast dance. Are you hoping to dine in the Beast’s Castle for free?? If you look out the “windows” of the Ballroom, you’ll see that snow is falling! But did you know that this is the exact same snow sequence you’ll see in the film?! Man, that’s an impressive level of detail, but what else do we expect from Disney?? Dancing Snow Outside of Be Our Guest Ballroom Take a look up in the ballroom, too — the faces of those little cherubs around the ceiling are actual Imagineers’ children! If you manage to snag a reservation at Be Our Guest Restaurant, be sure to leave yourself some extra time to check out all of the awesome details in the dining rooms! Check out our review of the prix fixe dinner at Be Our Guest Restaurant! Sanaa Now let’s head over to Sanaa, located in Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Kidani Village. Sanaa translates to “work of art” in Swahili, and this restaurant definitely lives up to its name! One of the coolest things about eating at Sanaa is the view. The windows look right out onto Sunset Savannah, so you can watch the animals of the African plains while you dine! View of Animals from Sanaa But the view isn’t the only awesome thing Sanaa has to offer! The restaurant is decorated with beautiful African artwork, which you can see before you even enter. Hand-woven trays hang from the wall behind the check-in podium — and you can spot several hidden Mickeys in the pattern! Sanaa And entering the restaurant is an experience in itself! You’ll feel like you’re stepping outside into the Savannah, with pillars shaped like acacia trees. Hanging from these trees are lamps made to look like African Weaver bird nests. It takes dining with the animals to a whole new level! Sanaa vibes Since the restaurant is themed after an East African spice market, you’ll find details like this Zanzibar coffee pot display! Zanzibar Coffee Pot on Display at Sanaa Given the incredible view of the animals, it would be easy for a restaurant with such an awesome location to put less emphasis on the indoor details, which makes the awesome level of theming in Sanaa all the more impressive! See our full review of Sanaa here! Jiko While we’re on the subject of dining at Animal Kingdom Lodge, we can’t forget about Jiko! This restaurant is full of details that reflect the cultures and environments of Africa! For example, the lighting on the back wall of the restaurant changes colors throughout the evening to mimic the African sunset. The breathtaking detail is even more impressive knowing the meaning behind it! Jiko Sunset Wall And the detailing goes all the way down to the floor! The patterns on the floor include stylized images of grain, which symbolize good luck and a good harvest. Floor Detail The pillars tell a story as well — the rings encircling them are designed to mimic the neck rings worn by women in some African tribes. These rings symbolize wealth and beauty. Rings represent neck rings symbolizing wealth We could spend hours combing through all of the gorgeous details at Jiko. Animal Kingdom Lodge is truly next-level when it comes to theming! Check out our review of dinner at Jiko! Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Here’s another spot that’s themed to the brim! Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar in Disney Springs is named after Indiana Jones’ pilot (you can see him at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark, if you’re curious!). So of course, you’ll find plenty of references to his aviation career in the decor! Jock Lindsey’s Decor And the location even creates its own backstory, with the newspaper article to back it up! Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Decor There are some Easter eggs hidden for all you Indiana Jones fans as well! Can you spot the Chachapoyan Fertility Idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark on this shelf?? Golden Fertility Idol But, did you know Jock Lindsey’s is home to hidden details from other ultra-famous George Lucas movie franchises?? For you Star Wars fans, there’s a hidden R2-D2 in the writing on the wall and an obscure bounty hunter hiding in the rafters — IG-88! Which makes sense, since George Lucas did bring both the Indy and Star Wars films to life! Hidden R2-D2 at Jock Lindsey’s If you sit out on the patio, be sure to ask your bartender about the mysterious claw framed behind the bar. It’s a nod to another huge movie and director. We don’t want to spoil it, but it was a JURASSIC hit. Look For the Claw Behind This Bar! Jock Lindsey’s is full of fun details and nods to our favorite movies! It’s definitely worth a trip to Disney Springs, especially if you’re a huge Indiana Jones fan! Click here to see what we think of Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar! Storybook Dining at Artist Point If you’re on the lookout for rare characters, you’ll definitely want to have Storybook Dining at Artist Point on your radar! You can find this prix fixe character meal at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. And even though Snow White can be found at other places around Disney property, the rest of the characters here are MUCH harder to meet! Snow White You’ll have the chance to interact with both Grumpy and Dopey — which makes this one of the only places you can meet any of the Seven Dwarfs outside of extra-ticketed events like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! Dopey is known to SOMETIMES pop up for holidays like St. Patrick’s Day. Dopey Plus, you can meet the Evil Queen! She’s also a rare character to meet up close and personal (probably because she’s so busy working on her evil plots!), so that makes THREE hard-to-find characters in addition to the OG princess! The Queen If you’re on a mission to fill your autograph book or selfie collection with new characters, you’ll definitely want to check out Storybook Dining at Artist Point! Click here to check out our experience at Storybook Dining at Artist Point! AbracadaBar Okay, so this one is technically a bar and lounge, and not a restaurant. But it has such a cool backstory that we couldn’t leave it off the list! AbracadaBar, located on Disney’s BoardWalk, is a former secret hangout for magicians and entertainers. That is, until they mysteriously vanished over 70 years ago! AbracadaBar Extra, extra, read all about it! This special edition of The Boardwalk Bugle that hangs on the wall references the mysterious disappearance of the enchanting illusionists. The Boardwalk Bugle But even though the magicians are gone, you’ll still find traces of them throughout the bar! There are cabinets full of props, and some of their tricks (we mean ILLUSIONS! ) hang on the walls. Cabinet full of props But if all of these details seem a bit too obvious to be hidden secrets, how about this…there are actually hidden magicians in the wallpaper! Wallpaper Here’s a closer look at this sneaky illusionist! Can you spot him now?? (Hint: look for the ‘stache!) Wallpaper detail Oh, and if you make your way to the restroom, be sure to listen closely! You might hear what sounds like a magician’s show — applause, and all — by the Stage Door! “To Stage” AbracadaBar is themed to the brim, all the way down to the cocktail menu, that includes appropriate options like the Parlor Trick and Pepper’s Ghost! Stop by for a drink and see if you can solve the mystery of the magicians’ disappearing act! Learn more about the awesome details (and drinks!) at AbracadaBar! When it comes to hidden secrets, details, and Easter eggs, Disney is second-to-none! And even though we could search for hidden Mickeys alllll day, we also love taking a deeper dive into the more obscure theming surprises. 13. We’re pretty much always planning our next trip to Disney World (whether it’s wishful thinking or actually on the books). If you’re lucky enough to be doing the same, we’ve got some tips for you! Magic Kingdom There’s a lot going through your head when you plan a Disney trip — everything from what Fastpass+ reservations to make (or maybe even what a FastPass+ even IS!) to where you’re going to stay. When you’re making those big decisions, it can be easy to forget some details. So, don’t let these seven VERY important things slip your mind! 1. Travel Insurance Could Be A Good Idea The first thing you might be forgetting is a pretty commonly overlooked option. But it might be a good idea to consider travel insurance — ESPECIALLY with the travel climate right now. Star Wars United Airlines Plane ©United If you’re headed to Disney World soon, you might be worried about local government restrictions, travel changes, or other unforeseen circumstances. That makes sense — the chance of an interruption to your vacay plans is def a little higher than usual. Monorail Opting for travel insurance will have you paying a little extra to protect your vacation. Disney actually offers travel insurance to U.S. residents through a partnership. You can also usually spot travel insurance through airlines or other companies, or you can talk to your travel agent about it! We love Small World Vacations for when we want to get the most out of our vacay with a travel agent! To find out if a travel agent is right for you, click here! 2. Transportation Can Take FOREVER In Disney World When you’re getting all of your plans laid out, you definitely don’t want to forget about how long it takes to get around Disney World. After all, Disney property is HUGE and though we love Disney transportation, it can take a looooong time to get from one place to another. So, keep in mind that it could take an hour or more — door-to-door — for you to get anywhere in Disney World (unless you’re going somewhere walkable). Minnie Bus Why does this matter when you’re getting your Disney plans put together? It is SUPER important to remember transportation times when you’re planning your reservations. You gotta make sure you have enough time to make it where you need to be on time! You don’t wanna miss that FastPass or dining reservation because you didn’t pad in extra time to get there! (And you REALLY don’t want to miss the opportunity to get that Rise of the Resistance Boarding Group because you didn’t get into the park on time. Sometimes it’s easiest to take alternative transportation to make sure you get there on time.) Epcot’s Future World So, give yourself enough time to get from reservation to reservation when they’re really far away from one another. It might be a little difficult to make it from your FastPass for Space Mountain to your dinner at Jiko if you haven’t left enough time. Want to learn the PROS and CONS of Disney Transportation? Click here! 3. Park Hours Vary Drastically If you’re thinking of visiting at a new-to-you time of year, remember that park hours vary by season! This one can be easy to forget (even for the pros). Keep in mind that the parks close a little earlier in the slower seasons and certain seasonal parties can have a big effect on hours — especially for Magic Kingdom. Alternatively, busy times like summer often mean the parks can be open LATE. And that means Extra Magic Hours go even LATER. Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular So, you probably won’t be spending a lot of late-night time in the parks in January; and you might see Magic Kingdom close at 6PM multiple nights a week around Halloween and Christmas to make way for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. A lot of trips are being rescheduled right now, so if you plan on being in Disney World at a different time than you’re used to, make sure to check out those park hours! You can find them on the Disney World website. Click here to find out how to get MORE time in the parks! 4. Take Advantage of Discounts That Pop Up Closer To Your Travel Dates Another one we’re guilty of missing out on all the time…but you shouldn’t! It’s SUPER common for people to forget that discounts can pop up closer to your travel dates! If you’re being proactive and getting your Disney trip booked waaaay in advance, you might not spot any discounts that apply to the dates you’re traveling. That doesn’t mean more discounts won’t show up! Disney’s Contemporary Resort Disney will often announce discounts closer to the dates they apply to, so keep checking after you book! If the discount applies to dates, rooms, or packages you’ve already booked, we suggest calling to see if you can get that discount applied to your reservation. This isn’t always possible, but sometimes Cast Members are able to rebook your reservation in order to apply the discount. Since the possibility of savings is there, we suggest giving it a try! MagicBand Scanner ©Disney And, if you’re nervous about missing discounts after you’ve booked, consider booking with a travel agent. Like we said earlier, we love Small World Vacations. They’ll help you get all of your bookings lined up AND they’ll do their best to make sure you don’t miss out on any discounts without you having to lift a finger. Did we mention it’s FREE to use a travel agent? Pretty hard to pass up if you want to make sure someone is doing all the hard work of checking on discounts FOR you! Click here to look at current Disney discounts! 5. Just Because You Missed The FastPass Or Dining Reservation You Wanted Doesn’t Mean You Won’t Get One It can be a real bummer when you try to get that Advance Dining Reservation 180-days out and the one you want is gone! The same can be said for when you try to book those hard-to-get FastPasses and they disappear before your eyes! But DON’T FORGET, just because you don’t get the reservations you want when you first try, doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find one later. Keep checking the FastPass and dining listings in the weeks and days leading up to your trip. Options change ALL THE TIME (because people are canceling reservations all the time) and you never know when someone might drop their Flight of Passage FastPass or fireworks time reservation at California Grill. FastPasses In fact, even check throughout the DAY that you’re hoping to snag that coveted reservation! Seriously, hard-to-find FastPasses and dining reservations open up even on the day-of, so if you keep refreshing those pages, you never know what you might be able to snag. Want more tips on snagging last-minute FastPasses? Click here! 6. Disney Has “Holidays” That Can Really Drive Up Crowds Ok so most people know that Disney gets pretty crowded on holidays like July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas; but did you know that Disney has their own set of “holidays” and special events that can drive up crowds too? ©DapperDay.com Disney hosts all sorts of celebrations — some officially and some unofficially, like Dapper Days, Gay Days, and runDisney events. Events like these are SERIOUSLY gonna ramp up the crowds. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye out for big attraction openings, the first few days of the Epcot festivals, and big anniversaries. It WILL get packed! ©Disney If you’re not the kind of Disney-goer who likes to contend with big crowds, make sure you check Disney’s social media, calendar, and our reporting here on Disney Food Blog to make sure your trip doesn’t overlap with a runDisney Marathon Weekend or any other big Disney “holiday!” Click here to learn more about the 2021 Disney World Marathon Weekend! 7. You Should Schedule Downtime And last but certainly not least, don’t be afraid to schedule downtime. In fact, you SHOULD schedule downtime! If you want to make the most out of your Disney vacation, having some time to rest can be IMPERATIVE to keeping everyone in a good mood. Room at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge This is especially true if you’re traveling with kids. Naptime could be a MUST for your family. Disney is a LOT of walking in the Florida heat and your littles will likely get tired. In fact, even if you’re traveling without kids, you might want to schedule in some time to rest. Hey, sometimes us grown-ups need naps or a dip in the pool too! Luna Park Pool On top of that, the parks aren’t the only cool places to hang in Disney. We absolutely LOVE to plan a day to hotel hop and visit Disney Springs. This can be a great way to still make the most out of your vacation while chilling out a little bit. Since you don’t have to pay entry fees, you won’t feel as pressured to be on the go constantly if you’re spending a day at Springs or the resorts. Need suggestions for how to spend your resort day? Click here! So, there you have it! Make sure you don’t let any of these easily forgettable things slip your mind! All 7 of these easily forgotten tips can really help take your Disney trip to the next level. 14. Here’s another incredible runDisney story of courage and hope, another #DisneyMagicMoment…this time from the 2019 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. Boyd Dunleavey The 2019 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend was particularly special for Boyd Dunleavey, a cancer survivor who completed the Wine & Dine Half Marathon. In 2011, Dunleavey was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer and given a 10 percent chance of surviving more than a few months, barring a stem cell transplant from a donor outside his family. After a year of treatments and a cancer relapse in February 2012, doctors located a viable donor – Nathan Barnes, a gunners’ mate in the United States Navy who was stationed in Japan. In May 2012, Dunleavey finally received the life-saving transplant from Barnes. Shortly after, Dunleavey began running as part of his recovery, and it quickly became a passion – in part because of his love of Disney and the community he found in runDisney. That passion led to something even bigger during the 2019 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend when, after more than seven years, Dunleavey and his family met Nathan Barnes, the man who saved his life. To cap off the magical weekend, Barnes was the first to embrace Dunleavey and present him with his medal when crossed the half marathon finish line. Here’s a look at Dunleavy’s magical experience. Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog in the weeks to come as we look back at more amazing, inspirational #DisneyMagicMoments from runDisney events! View the full article
  15. As you may know, we are VERY big fans of Jack Jack’s Cookie Num Nums you can get in both Disney World and Disneyland! Jack Jack’s Cookie Num Nums in Hollywood Studios Their buttery and chocolatey goodness is just WAY too hard to resist (seriously, just get two when you stop at the counter). And, although you can mix up your own version at home, there’s just something about the parks’ cookies that can’t be replicated. At least, that’s what we thought… A recent tweet that our friend Carlye Wisel told us about recently alerted us to a shop called Douce France Bakery in Winter Garden, Florida, that claims to have the Num Num Cookies from the parks. Douce France Bakery Now recently, we discovered that Kroger grocery stores carry the same beloved Mini Mango Pie as the one at Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. So, we’re not strangers to the possibility that Disney doesn’t make all of its iconic eats in-house. So when we heard that there was a possibility that Douce France Bakery carried Num Num Cookies, we put on our detective hats and started digging. According to their bakery inventory on their website, they have an item listed as a Num Num Cookie for only $3 (wait, WHAT?!) versus the $6 version in Disney World. ©DF Bakery Their cookies, though, are only available right now during their drive-thru bake sales on Saturdays and cannot be pre-ordered or shipped. Hmmm, is this because they only have a limited amount for park supply? Or, did Jack Jack just eat too many of them??? Douce France Bakery Bake Sale Line Sign Well, because we love you guys (and tbh we love Jack-Jacks Cookie Num Nums), we decided to make our way over to the bakery to check out if they were the REAL DEAL. The bake sale opened at 8AM and we were just a little eager so we lined up early. By about 7:50, there were 20 or so cars waiting to pick up their own baked goodies. But we were FIRST IN LINE! Bake Sale Cars Lining Up We ordered off the menu — but you know there was only ONE THING we wanted! The bakery even calls it a “Num Num Cookie!” Douce France Bakery Saturday Morning Bake Sale A few minutes later, they arrived with a little brown bag. We couldn’t help but peek through the clear panel to see…it’s looking scary familiar… . Douce France Bakery Num Num Bag Num Num Cookie Info We quickly unwrapped the paper and what to our wondering eyes did appear… Jack-Jack Is That YOU?! …but a JACK JACK COOKIE NUM NUM?? It can’t be…! But it has to! Look at the chocolate chunks, the crust, the POLKA DOTTED PAPER! Douce France Bakery Jack Jack Cookie Num Num We wept tears of joy as we dove into the cookie. We’ve been counting the days since we have been apart. And we are reunited at last! Jack Jack’s Cookie Num Num IN THE WILD Mouths full of cookies, we asked someone at the bakery to confirm. Could this really be the SAME cookie as those in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Their answer? “Yes, we’ve been supplying baked goods to Disney for years!” So there you have it, folks! Another iconic Disney snack that is NOT made on property, but in fact outsourced! And YOU can get your very own without going to the parks and without paying twice the price! What a time to be alive. 16. We’re not trying to incite a riot here, but with the Disney parks closed right now, we’ve found ourselves with an abundance of time to really ponder all things Disney. Magic Kingdom While every Disney fan has their own opinions, we actually think some of these less popular beliefs are, like it or not, probably true! There are some controversial thoughts being discussed on the interwebs and we want to address a few of them! 1. Pineapple Dole Whip Isn’t For Everyone While we definitely feel Pineapple Dole Whip lives up to its hype (and everyone should try it at least once!), it’s possible some of us might prefer other cold treats more! (Hey, we told you we were going to get pretty controversial up in here!! Right off the bat, dropping Dole Whip on you! :D) Pineapple Dole Whip It’s true, Pineapple Dole Whip is very sweet…but also acidic — maybe even too much so for some people. That’s why we prefer ours swirled with vanilla soft-serve — the richness of the ice cream really helps to balance out some of the fruity tartness! Pineapple and Vanilla Swirl Dole Whip at Pineapple Lanai Some of our DFB team members even prefer the new Coconut Dole Whip served in the Kakamora Float at Aloha Isle — although we’ve had mixed results getting the Coconut Dole Whip by itself. Some Cast Members have done it for us, while others have made us buy the whole float. Kakamora Float We LOVE You Some people just don’t like Dole Whip in general and might prefer soft-serve or a scoop of good ol’ ice cream instead. Whatever you prefer, Disney has a cool treat for you that’s sure to please. In Fact, Many Guests DON’T Love These Other Iconic Snacks If you think not enjoying Pineapple Dole Whip is a crime against Disney-kind, brace yourself for these other popular Disney World foods that a lot of people don’t actually like. The Jumbo Turkey Legs at Magic Kingdom are iconic. But while these gargantuan hunks of salty meat are extremely popular with some folks, for others they’re a hard-pass. Jumbo Turkey Leg Some people think Mickey Pretzels are way too salty or Churros are too hard. Disney aims to please a range of preferences, but they don’t always hit the mark with everyone. Don’t feel bad if you aren’t totally over the moon when you eat one of Disney’s most iconic foods — just keep snackin’ until you find the perfect treat that makes your heart go BOOM BOOM BOOM! Learn how to recreate some of your favorite Disney snacks at home! 2. Disney ISN’T Too Expensive I can see you’re headed for the comments section right now, but hear us out. It’s a very popular opinion that the Disney parks are waaaay too expensive these days, and you don’t hear many people arguing the opposite. Prices keep going up and it’s getting harder and harder for some families to justify spending so much money on a vacation. Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival Even Disney World’s most-economical resorts are costly for many families on a budget, with value resort rooms going for over $100 per night most times of the year. Park tickets go up annually, as do food costs and souvenir prices. But keep in mind: Disney doesn’t arbitrarily choose the prices they charge. They choose them based on empirical data — they charge what people will pay. It’s basic Economics 101 — supply and demand. Hollywood Studios Pretzel Menu After the Last Round of Price Increases Over the past several years, Disney has consistently raised prices, yet crowds have still increased. So, if you look at the actual DATA — Disney’s not too expensive. As long as those $70 Spirit Jerseys, $600 Designer Minnie Ears, and $100+ Halloween Party tickets keep selling out, Disney’s priced their goods and services appropriately — at least according to the law of supply and demand. The Blonds Designer Mickey Ears SOLD OUT at $600 a pair Now, you could argue that Disney should build a 5th gate instead of just incessantly raising prices. That way they could welcome more visitors and make even more money while keeping things a little more affordable. And perhaps they will. They have been buying up land after all. But even if a 5th gate does come to pass, it’s unlikely Disney will ever be any cheaper than it is now. Prices have rarely gone down, historically. But if it’s what your family loves to do together, you can try to cut spending on things “back home” to save up for your trip! Save Those Pennies if You Want to See Cinderella Castle! And don’t forget to look for deals before you book! There are often room discounts or special offers you can apply to your trip that will save you some money. Also, try to avoid traveling during the busiest times of year (which usually means the holidays, summer, and spring break) — prices on park tickets and rooms in the off-season are generally less expensive! Click here for more info on Disney World discounts and deals! 3. There Aren’t Enough REAL Thrill Rides at the Disney Parks There’s a reason Disney refers to its parks as theme parks and not amusement parks. Disney’s strength lies in its unique ability to tell a story and capture our imaginations. But the parks still get knocked quite a bit for being too kiddo-friendly. Space Mountain Nearby parks such as Universal Studios and SeaWorld have much bigger and badder rollercoasters than Space Mountain or even Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Many of the attractions in these parks are geared towards adults, and they’re also way more intense. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith Disney is currently working on two new coasters, TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in Epcot, so at least there’ll be a few more options for thrillseekers relatively soon! TRON: Lightcycle Power Run in Shanghai Disneyland And we can’t leave out Rise of the Resistance which has also majorly upped Disney World’s ride game! But at the end of the day, Disney World’s rides are generally geared to be more family-friendly — which was Walt’s original vision for his parks in the first place. He wanted something that families could do together. So while Disney is adding a few more thrill rides, you’ll continue to see the majority of their parks populated with family-friendly attractions. Check out these ride hacks to kick your next trip to Disney Work up a notch! 4. Some Disney Parks Aren’t All-Day Parks Many guests devote several days of their trip to Magic Kingdom and sometimes Epcot, while Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios often end up with the short end of the stick. Epcot But in recent years, Animal Kingdom has extended its hours to help combat the stigma of only being a “half-day park.” They also added PANDORA: the World of Avatar — which is particularly enjoyable at night with everything lit up, an after-dark version of Kilimanjaro Safaris, and the nighttime spectacular, Rivers of Light. Animal Kingdom also took part in Disney World’s holiday celebrations for the first time in 2019, adding a bunch of new seasonal treats and entertainment. But it still wasn’t enough to keep all of us around for a full-day. Pandora at Night And even though Hollywood Studios has Rise of the Resistance along with the rest of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to explore, it’s still not a full day’s worth of activities for some guests. We’re definitely down for arriving at the park for rope drop to get a Rise of the Resistance boarding group, but the chances of us staying until closing are pretty slim since we likely got up at 5AM! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge So, even though Magic Kingdom and Epcot often account for several days of a guest’s Disney World vacation, leaving less time for Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios…we kinda get it. Kinda. It all really depends on how long your trip is and what other stuff you’re trying to get done. Tower of Terror If you want to make a trip to Disney Springs or one of Disney World’s waterparks, you might have to sacrifice some park time. And since it usually takes longer to do everything you want in Magic Kingdom and Epcot, it makes sense to us that guests are hesitant to cut their days at these parks short. There is SO Much to Do in Magic Kingdom But keep in mind Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios have really stepped up their games lately and if you haven’t visited the parks for the last couple of years, you might want to reconsider your half-day plans for these parks! We may not all agree on EVERYTHING about Disney World, but we certainly hope that we can still be friends after talking about four rather touchy subjects today! Group hug, everybody! After all, everyone is entitled to their own unique opinions about Disney — even if they aren’t what people like to hear! What are some unpopular Disney opinions you have? 22. The mayor of Orange County has announced a plan for reopening area businesses. Walt Disney World Earlier this week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis delivered guidelines for Phase One of reopening the state. Following this announcement, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings has responded with an update on the approach for reopening businesses in the area. According to the guidelines delivered by Governor DeSantis, Florida restaurants and retail stores can reopen their businesses with a 25% indoor occupancy starting on May 4th. However, Mayor Demings has followed up with further information regarding the reopening of Orange County, where Walt Disney World Resort partially resides. Disney Springs The Florida state government has established that the recommendations give by Governor DeSantis are the minimum that businesses must follow, but that the counties can clarify and impose stricter limits if they choose to. With 77% of cases cured and expansion of testing, Orange County chose to make a few clarifications specific to the county level from the suggestions of the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force. A major update is that Orange County will be extending the 11PM – 5 AM curfew into next week, and then reevaluating on a week-by-week basis. Florida-themed Orange Bird Mural Mayor Demings clarified that though the Governor allows outdoor dining without limitations at restaurants, businesses will still need to follow the required permits in Orange County. Essentially, a restaurant can’t just set tables up outside and call it “outdoor dining” so that they can open. Everything still has to follow the appropriate legal processes. Specifically, members of the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force have presented the following seven guidelines: Practice social distancing. Stay home when feeling sick. Wear protective face coverings. Conduct health screenings with employees. Sanitize and wash hands frequently. High-risk individuals should shelter and work from home whenever possible. Recommend temperature checks for staff. A temperature of 100 degrees and above must stay home. ©Orange County In response to a question about theme park reopenings, Mayor Demings responded that they can’t say for sure when theme parks will open. He mentioned that it is up to the theme parks themselves based on the Governor’s guidelines and their own business decisions. “Only they can tell you,” he said. Each sub-group of the Task Force was also able to individually present their thoughts. The Work Group subcommittee will also be recommending Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, “move forward to seek the authority to reopen personal care facilities.” Disney Springs Click here to read the biggest takeaways from yesterday’s meeting of the Orange County Economic Task Force! The Business Readiness Working Group is the subcommittee tasked with building the framework to vet, disseminate, and provide resources to employers. By May 4th, they will be giving the Mayor a new report with regards to COVID-19-specific employee safety protocols and operational templates along with other recommendations. Disney Springs Evelyn Cardenas, CEO of Central Florida Auto Dealers Association presented a Business Compliance and Consumer Confidence update. She recommended a three-step process for businesses to positively reinforce their commitment to the health and safety of the public including customers as well as workers. Cardenas proposed a Portal Wall of Fame where restaurants and stores could be commended for their safe business practices by patrons or employees. She also said anyone with concerns over a business being non-compliant with health guidelines could file a report on Myfloridalicense.com. The state could provide the concerns detailed in the complaint to the business operator, as well as help them with guidance and sourcing any supplies that were needed to address the issue. Some time would be allowed for correction. Disney Springs Food Trucks Bringing Back Tourism was the last sub-group to present. The committee said they would be focusing on building customer and traveler confidence back up by developing a unified brand through Visit Orlando and would be rebranding the website with an emphasis on staycations for Florida’s residents. Their efforts will be to drive business from in-state until they can expand outwards once people feel it is safe to travel. The subgroup stated personal concern about contracting the virus during travel has improved and people are gradually feeling safer about travel in general. But Americans will most likely continue to associate travel with fear and uncertainty for some time. Disney Springs Mayor Demings also announced that, though the Task Force’s work is incomplete, the government will be releasing an Executive Order within the next 24 hours alongside the county attorney that encompasses much of the suggested guidelines thus far.
