Happy Cinco de Mayo, DFB amigos!! The Three Caballeros While you’re at home making some of abuelita‘s famous tamales and watching Coco to celebrate the holiday, we’re taking you with us on a musical adventure through Epcot’s Gran Fiesta Tour! The Mexico Pavilion is a great spot to get a carved ring, sip on some BOMB cocktails at La Cava del Tequila, or even eat all the Mexican food your heart desires at San Angel Inn. But, did you know that the pavilion is home to the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros?? Yes, friends, if you didn’t know a gem of a boat ride is hiding in the pyramid in Mexico! Mexico Pavilion In case you don’t know who The Three Caballeros are (gasp!), the rag-tag team of musicians come from the 1944 film of the same name. Donald Duck meets José Carioca and Panchito Pistoles to form their own mini boy band over the 7-act film (!!!) that follows the group through wacky situations on Friday the 13th, which happens to be Donald’s birthday (how fitting, right?). ©Disney But, the trio’s adventures didn’t stop when the film ended. In 2007, The Gran Fiesta Tour replaced the El Rio del Tiempo ride inside the Mexico Pavilion to make it more interactive for kiddos of all ages. The ride was updated again in 2015 to include audio-animatronics of Donald, José, and Panchito in the grand finale, but these animatronics have a HISTORY. If you happen to remember the Mickey Mouse Revue from Magic Kingdom that closed in 1980, you’ll recognize these animatronics as the ones featured in the late attraction! After the show closed in Florida, the animatronics were all shipped over to Tokyo Disneyland to reopen in 1983. The Mickey Mouse Revue played until 2009 at which point, the show closed to be replaced with Mickey’s PhilharMagic, and the friendly amigos made a trip BACK to the states to take the stage again — this time in the finale scene in the Gran Fiesta Tour! Gran Fiesta Tour The ride itself is very relaxing (our kids all LOVE going on this ride, which rarely has a line!). As you board your boat to drift past a Mayan pyramid, a volcano, and the San Angel Inn (wave to the folks eating!!), you’ll run into The Three Caballeros…er, well, two of them. Panchito and José realize when they’re introducing themselves that Donald is missing. So, they take you with them along on journey all over Mexico to find Donald before their hit concert starts (oh, Donald, when will you learn??). The Three Caballeros Different screens show The Three Caballeros super-imposed over actual spots around Mexico like the Palacio del Bellas Artes and El Castillo pyramid. They even take flight on a magic sarape across the cities! One of the most iconic scenes in the Gran Fiesta Tour, though, is where the audio-animatronics and colorful decorations look like something straight out of “it’s a small world.” Keep an eye out for the Donald piñata the next time you ride! Gran Fiesta Tour Luckily, The Three Caballeros catch up with Donald to play their concert in Mexico City with some AWESOME fireworks in the sky at the very end. Felicidades, amigos!! The Grand Finale!! Gran Fiesta Tour is a super relaxing and fun ride to step out of the Florida heat.Next time you’re near the Mexico Pavilion, swing by for a quick boat ride around Mexico. Plus, you can check out the “Remember Me” Exhibit when you enter the pyramid to take a look at the Dia de los Muertos displays and scenes from Coco! Gran Fiesta Tour While we might not be able to visit Epcot or the Gran Fiesta Tour for Cinco de Mayo, we’re still totally going to have a fiesta with our familia, DISNEY STYLE! Take a peek at all the recipes you can make inspired by Disney films! Have you been on the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros? Let us know in the comments below! We’ve been keeping a close eye on the details that are being discussed by the Re-Open Florida Task Force as well as the local Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force. Disney Springs Today, two of the Orange County committee’s subgroups met to discuss new ways to reopen businesses and bringing tourism back to Orlando, Florida. The Reopen Business Working Group, a subcommittee of the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force, was the first to meet today. A major takeaway from this discussion was delivered by Alex Martins, a sports executive for the NBA. He said the NBA would most likely be reopening its practice facilities for NBA players this Friday. ESPN Club Martins said the NBA would be following all necessary safety guidelines for NBA players including individualized workouts, only allowing four players in the facility at a time, and only allowing one player at a basket per time. Masks would be worn by everyone and a complete deep clean sanitation of each practice facility would be performed every night in Phase 1. Busy Day at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Following the data like everyone else, the NBA would determine when it would be safe to move to Phase 2 which would include team type workouts as well as more staff and players being permitted inside the facilities at the same time. According to the task force, The NBA has decided to finish off its regular season and playoffs — possibly without fans present, but only as much as the data will allow. NBA games could be played as late as Labor Day and the next season might be delayed to allow the first season to finish if need be. While the NBA is still considering playing at “a centralized facility or a few centralized facilities around the country” and Disney World has been mentioned before, Martins didn’t specify which facilities they would be resuming practice at on Friday. ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Read more about the proposal for the NBA to finish out its 2020 season in Disney World here! Youcheng Wang, Dean of the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, was the main speaker at today’s meeting of the Bringing Back Tourism Working Group. Wang proposed a 3-phased gradual approach for restarting Orange County’s tourism. Disney Springs The first stage would use the Visit Orlando media campaign in new and engaging ways. He emphasized the importance of keeping Orlando visible and on the top of people’s minds on a national scale right now. Blaze Pizza at Disney Springs For the second stage, Wang recommended placing an emphasis on helping local businesses re-establish trust with consumers. Additional discussion included businesses providing clear information to consumers about their readiness and safety measures they are taking. The group addressed the idea of a “seal of approval” or “a seal of promise” which could prove especially useful for smaller businesses who are trying to rebuild trust and ease concerns. D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs For example, smaller hotels might not have the resources to engage with consumers in the same way major players in the hotel industry can such as Marriot or Hilton. A seal of approval would show that these smaller companies are operating at a high level of engagement even if they lack the resources to advertise their new safety guidelines. Disney Springs The proposed third phase of Wang’s plan would include driving support from the local community and encouraging Florida residents to enjoy staycationing while helping their local economy. Phase 3 would expand later to include a geological approach, pursuing customers who can drive to Florida and eventually reaching towards a target audience of adults without children who would have the means for travel. We’ll continue to provide all additional information that is being discussed by the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force as well as the Re-Open Florida Task Force so stay tuned! Leather Bracelets When I was a kid I begged for one of those leather bracelets that you can get engraved! And, in Disney World, they’ve got a little extra magic with unique characters (like Baby Yoda) and colors. Disney Caricature Last but not least, every kid’s dream is to be drawn like their favorite Disney character (yes, parents, you know how many times you’ve been asked for this). Right?! Or was that just me…lol. Either way, you can get your portrait done just like an animated classic with artist caricatures in Disney Springs, most Disney Resorts, and Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom. Caricatures We’ve seen kids get cartoon-ified as their favorite Disney Princess or Star Wars character. Buuut, we’ve even seen adults commemorate their honeymoon or anniversary with one of these doodles! The artist caricature costs $15 for face only black and white, $20 for face only color, $20 for face and body black and white, or $30 for face and body-color per person. After your artist is finished, they’ll sign your name at the top of the piece so you can show it off in your own castle! Portraits and Caricatures You can find these caricature artists at multiple locations around Disney World including the France Pavilion in Epcot, at the entrance to Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom, just across the bridge from Cinderella Castle, among others. Although we can’t visit the parks right now, you can still customize different items online and have them shipped to your home. You can get tees for your whole fam, towels for your pool days, and so much more! Buuut, we are totally looking forward to getting some of these goodies in person when Disney World reopens. Disney World has been closed for almost two months now, and we sure miss getting a glimpse inside those park gates. ©Jonathan Michael Salazar Well today, thanks to a dedicated pilot, we’re getting a birds-eye view of Disney World. We’ve already gotten one peek inside the parks from above, but this one is a LOT more comprehensive. Check out pics of the parks, resorts, and more! Jonathan Michael Salazar, a pilot and photographer, organized this shoot over Disney World airspace (usually a no-fly zone). He took over 80 pictures and posted them on Facebook for the world to see! You can check out the full shoot here, but we picked out a few of our favorites to look at. ©Jonathan Michael Salazar Here you can see an empty Magic Kingdom with a focus on the hub. It looks like there are only a few dozen cars parked in the employee lot behind Tomorrowland. The full album on Facebook features mind-boggling pictures of completely empty guest parking lots. ©Jonathan Michael Salazar The next photo shows off an empty Epcot. You can see all construction sites in the middle of Future World! ©Jonathan Michael Salazar Hollywood Studios was a shocking sight, too. We’ve never seen Toy Story Land this empty! We love all the bright colors. ©Jonathan Michael Salazar Though it’s difficult to see the empty areas with all the foliage in Animal Kingdom, Salazar did snag this cool photo of all of the Kilimanjaro Safari trucks parked and out of commission. ©Jonathan Michael Salazar You’ll have to check out his album to see pics of ALL the vacant resorts but look at this totally empty Polynesian Village Resort. It almost doesn’t look real. ©Jonathan Michael Salazar Disney Springs is shuttered too! It’s weird to see such a vibrant district look so quiet! ©Jonathan Michael Salazar Remember, to see the rest of the pics you can check them out on Jonathan Michael Salazar’s Facebook post here! While Disney Parks around the globe remain temporarily closed due to the ongoing global health situation, analysts are weighing in on the potential depth of the financial loss for the Walt Disney Company. Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle An article by The Press-Enterprise explores the projections according to an analyst report by research firm MoffettNathanson, specifically regarding the losses faced by the theme parks. “Disney theme parks face a potential $21 billion revenue loss through 2022” due to the park closures (which — at press time — will continue until further notice) according to the report. Disney California Adventure Main Entrance — Closed While we are all eagerly anticipating the reopening of the parks (and, in fact, there is already chatter about a possible May 2020 reopening for Disneyland Shanghai), the report by MoffetNathanson states that “We believe that investors are underestimating the lagging recovery nature of Disney’s theme parks.” The report ultimately forecasts that theme park revenues could be as much as $21.7 billion below 2019 fiscal year levels. The Press-Enterprise article provides some perspective: “That’s enough to pay for Shanghai Disneyland four times over. Disney’s $5.5 billion Chinese theme park resort opened in 2016.” Shanghai Disneyland Bearing in mind that an economic downturn is anticipated even after the health situation begins to resolve, this could mean that theme parks may encounter a “slower ramp back to a new normal,” with the travel and hospitality industries facing an impact more severe than those following 9/11 and the 2008-09 economic downturn. (It’s also noted in the report that “Disney’s U.S. hotel revenue didn’t return to pre-recession levels for three years.”) The assumption in the report is that Disney park attendance will drop by 50% through the end of the 2020 fiscal year. For 2021, the assumption is projected to 75% of previous attendance levels and 90% for 2022. Magic Kingdom Park Entrance Another potential factor affecting revenue may be the possibility of discounted theme park tickets (to help ramp up attendance following the closures). The report also states that “Disney is expected to delay capital expenditures on non-critical theme park projects to help curtail the losses.” All that said, the analysts also anticipate the potential for a big rebound in Disney parks attendance levels in 2022, assuming that the threat from the health crisis diminishes when a vaccine becomes widely available. Tonight, Disney will present how the company fared during the first three months of the year, its fiscal second quarter. So, we should have more info to share on the companies earnings for the year so far. Source: The Press-Enterprise We, of course, are continuing to monitor Disney Parks and destinations around the world as they are impacted in this moment, and you can explore that topic further by visiting any of the links below. We’ve been watching a ridiculous amount of movies on Disney+ recently (how can we resist cuddling up with a blanket and our pets to watch Onward??). ©Disney Since we’ve been chilling at home, baking some goodies, and doing some DIY home improvements, we’ve noticed quite a trend in what Disney characters we find ourselves relating to most. So, while you might be feeling a little bit differently than us (like Inside Out says, we all have different emotions driving our controls! ;D ), we can’t help but feel like these 10 Disney movie quotes are our honest truths right now. ©Disney For those of us who have been chilling at home alone, we totally understand how Elsa felt during the majority of Frozen. And, honestly, we’d give anything to build our own magical, talking snowman like Olaf right now for some warm hugs! “A kingdom of isolation…and it looks like I’m the queen.” – Frozen Elsa is All Too Familiar With Social Distancing ©Disney Anybody else keep hearing the Jeopardy song in their heads as another day goes by?? Just us? “When will my life begin?” – Tangled We Bet Rapunzel Makes Some Mean Sourdough Bread ©Disney Since we aren’t sure when we’ll be able to explore our big, blue, beautiful world again with stay at home orders, restaurant shut-downs, and the Disney Parks closures, we’ve really been spending most of our time lounging about in sweatpants (eating Disney recipes all day long). This next quote SPEAKS TO US right now. “Ten years we’ve been rusting, needing so much more than dusting! Needing exercise, a chance to use our skills! Most days we just lay around the castle — flabby, fat, and lazy…” – Beauty and the Beast We Feel Ya, Lumiere. ©Disney But, even though we might not be looking our best right now, we know that we’ll feel fabulous again once we have our favorite pair of Minnie Ears on! Truthfully, we’re feelin’ pretty Heimlich-y right now!! “Someday, I’ll be a beautiful butterfly.” – A Bug’s Life We’re Feeling Less Butterfly and More Chubby Caterpiller Right About Now! ©Disney Whether you’re surrounded by your family members or your swarm of pets, it’s very easy to get annoyed being in such a small space with everyone. We never thought we’d understand Scar from the Lion King on a deep level, but we’re REALLY feeling this sentiment right now. “I’m surrounded by idiots.” – The Lion King Same, Buddy. Same. ©Disney And, we’re pretty much all at that point where the way someone chews or breathes can set us off. May we suggest a calming circle alone…away from all your kids…with a glass of wine?? Mary: “Since this promises to be a most dire and stressful evening, I suggest we form a calming circle.” Winnie: “I AM CALM!” – Hocus Pocus Our Kids Have Been Running AMUCK, AMUCK, AMUCK Around Our House! ©Disney We’ve been trying to get as much Vitamin D as possible by relaxing in our backyards. But, we’ve MAJORLY been missing those days walking down Main Street, U.S.A., or strolling around the World Showcase. Quasi knows what we’re talkin’ about… . “Out there, living in the sun, give me one day out there! All I ask is one to hold forever… . What I’d give, what I’d dare, just to live one day out there!” – The Hunchback of Notre Dame Technically He Was “Staying In Place,” Right? ©Disney Speaking of the parks, Trixie from Toy Story 4 totally gets us when it comes to figuring out when the Disney Parks and Resorts will reopen. Although we “have all the questions,” we can say that we’ve at least been watching all the Toy Story movies back to back daydreaming about Slinky Dog Dash. “I have a question. No. Wait. I have all the questions.” – Toy Story 4 Actually, She Reminds Us of Our Kids While We Try to Work From Home! ©Disney Edna would probably be so ashamed of how we look in our unwashed hair, days-old PJs, and cake batter covered face…even though we don’t even feel the slightest bit guilty (#sorrynotsorry). “My god, pull yourself together!” – The Incredibles YOU Try Looking Fabulous In Sweatpants, Edna. Not Happenin! ©Disney Yes, we’ve been making plenty of Disney cocktails. Yes, we’ve had to use Target drive-up for more wine. No, we don’t regret it at all. This is what we DO now. “Why is the rum gone?” – Pirates of the Caribbean PREACH! ©Disney While we’ve been making DIY Cinderella Castles, creating our own Adventure Books, and fixing up our houses, we have to remind ourselves that we’re doing it for fun! “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” – Mary Poppins Just Imagine Being Stuck Inside With Mary! ©Disney Although this time is really trying right now, the Fairy Godmother has the best advice we all have to consider. Things might seem a bit strange since this is something we haven’t experienced before, but we just have to keep remembering that there’s a little bit of magic in everything (and thank goodness for that)! “Even miracles take a little time.” – Cinderella Fairy G, Do You Have Any Pajamas That Look Like Ballgowns?? ©Disney Although we’re having ALL the feels during this time at home, we’re still happy to be able to kick back and relax with some entertaining Disney activities! On top of rewatching some of the best Disney movies, we’ve been pulling out old family photos, making Orange Bird treats, going on virtual vacations, and more! There are a LOT of amazing treats in Disney World, whether you’re a fan of the classic Dole Whip or you like mixing and matching things to build your own creation (Mickey Ear Ice Cream Sandwich, where ya at?). The Glorious Mickey Ear Ice Cream Sandwich But, even though there are plenty of Instagram worthy snacks around the park, there are also a few treats that really catch you off guard by how strange they are. We’re talkin’ about the most unusual treats of the bunch with weird flavors, designs, and MORE! Let’s look at the good, the bad, and the ugly with some of the most bizarre snacks we’ve ever had in Disney World (brace yourselves, folks!). Poop Candy This might be the funniest thing we’ve ever seen in a Disney Park (and tbh we kinda still want it to come back!). All the way back in 2015, Zuri’s Sweets Shop in Animal Kingdom featured “Match the Species” Poop Candies. Yeah, we’re not even kidding. There was just a line of poop in the candy case there. “Match the Species” Treats You could choose from Elephant, Giraffe, Cotton Top Tamarin, and Hippo “Poop” to chomp down on. Each animal had their own unique flavor, so you could try something new each time! The Cotton Top Tamarin Poop was made with peanut butter fudge, sweet rolled oat flakes, and chocolate pretzel pearls, while the Giraffe Poop was chocolate fudge brownie and caramel. Want To Know What’s In Your Elephant Poop? No Problem. Hippo Poop was a chocolate fudge caramel brownie with peanut butter and rolled oats, and the Elephant Poop was made with chocolate peanut butter fudge, sweet rolled oats, and yellow coconut flakes. Elephant Poop Not too surprisingly, Disney quickly decided that the “Match the Species” series looked a little too unsavory. After all, they literally had “Poop” in their names. While they haven’t been around since then, we’re hoping that one day they’ll bring them back. We can’t help but think how great of a gag gift they would be! Check out our review of the long lost Poop Candy in Animal Kingdom here! Fuzzy Tauntaun Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the home to an outpost away from the hustle and bustle of galactic fights and star wars (see what we did there?). Although there are so many strange things to eat on the planet of Batuu, like boozy Blue and Green Milk and tasty Ronto Wraps, Oga’s Cantina is the land’s resident watering hole, with outstanding atmosphere and even more outrageous drinks. Oga’s Cantina in Disney World And, the Fuzzy Tauntaun is an absolutely otherworldly concoction you won’t want to miss. While the ingredients sound simple — Cîroc Peach Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps, and Simply Orange topped with tangerine and pure cane sugar — the “Buzz” Foam is where it gets fun. The Fuzzy Tauntaun has lots of great peach flavor (so it’s already a good drink on its own), but that foam actually makes your mouth go numb. Fuzzy Tauntaun A natural painkiller derived from a special Szechuan flower known as “Buzz Buttons,” is incorporated into the foam to create the wild effect. The sensation is pretty strange, but also HIGHLY entertaining. And don’t worry, the tingly numb feeling wears off really fast (you won’t feel like you just left the dentist’s office after drinking one!). Fuzzy Tauntaun If you’re going to Oga’s, we know you’re probably looking for some interesting space-like drinks that will make you feel like you’re in the Star Wars universe. And, friends, this is definitely out of this world!! Take a peek at all the other awesome drinks at Oga’s Cantina! Gummy Mac and Cheese Mac and Cheese is one of the basic food groups to us, and the Mac and Cheese Food Truck in Disney Springs is a BOMB place to grab a bite. While the Mac and Cheese Truck serves up some common mac flavors, like Texas Chili Mac and Cheese, they also switch things up by offering new twists on the classics depending on the time of the year. This past Halloween, the Mac and Cheese Food Truck served a dish that was, well, a little terrifying! Mac & Cheese Food Truck The Pumpkin Chipotle Mac and Cheese sounded pretty good with its cavatappi pasta topped with a pumpkin cheese sauce, cranberries, and pumpkin seeds. Buuut, the mac and cheese was also sprinkled with gummy worms (yeah, we’re not sure why either). Although we’re open to trying new things, we couldn’t get past candy in our mac and cheese! Pumpkin Chipotle Mac & Cheese The flavors were trying too hard to be decidedly “FALL!” — there was tartness from the cranberries, a hint of spiciness from the chipotle, and then all that pumpkiny cheese…mixed with sticky bits of gummy worms in each bite. Really, the only thing that was spooky about it was how strange the flavors were all mixed together. Read our review of the Gummy Mac and Cheese… if you dare! Confetti Mickey Pretzel Oh, boy!! There was QUITE the party in Disney World celebrating Mickey’s 90th birthday in 2018. We mean new parades, character outfits, and (most importantly) snacks! While there were a lot of wonderful treats out for Mickey’s 90th Birthday Celebration, we weren’t really feeling the Confetti Mickey Pretzel. Mickey Confetti Pretzel Although we’re big fans of Mickey Pretzels in general, this version was dipped in a copious amount of marshmallow fluff with sprinkles all over the top. It SOUNDS awesome, but the marshmallow fluff had a VERY sweet flavor that overtook any of the slight saltiness from the pretzel. It was almost like a donut, but not in the sweet fluffy pastry way. And, honestly, this is a perfect example of instagram vs. reality. Our FIRST pretzel looked like THIS (*insert Psycho music here*). Scary and creepy and gross and goopy. We had to go back to get another one in order to score the shot we took above. Confetti Mickey Pretzel While this guy was cute in theory, in practice he wasn’t as lovable. Look at all the awesome snacks from Mickey’s 90th Birthday Celebration here! The Ugliest Pretzel in the World Now, we don’t mean to hurt this pretzel’s feelings, but we laugh every time we look at it. You might imagine spotting a pumpkin pretzel around Halloween but, in fact, we first spied this on the opening day of Animal Kingdom’s Christmas celebrations (Christmas in Disney World DOES start in early November, so technically it was still pumpkin season!). Along with a few other festive treats, we were excited to spot a Pumpkin Pretzel topped with orange icing. Pumpkin Pretzel In theory, the placard looked great with the adorable pumpkin design and cute little green leaves. But when we received it, the Pumpkin Pretzel looked like…a hot mess. Pumpkin Spice Pretzel We thought that maybe the first time around was just a mistake. This looked like a pretzel got into a fight with plastic cheese and lost. So we went back AGAIN…and the same thing happened. A tiny bit better, but…yikes, Ugly Pretzel x2. Second Pumpkin Pretzel However, when we went back a THIRD time, all traces it had ever existed had vanished mysteriously! Although we may never know where the Pumpkin Pretzel went (maybe it was just too ugly to sell), we can say that it was actually delicious! We FEEL for those poor Cast Members we watched struggle to dunk these guys for us (twice!). We’ll never forget you, ugly pumpkin pretzel. See if you can solve the mystery of where the Pumpkin Pretzel went here! Moldy-Looking Guardians of the Galaxy Sandwich When Awesome Mix Live first made its rockin’ appearance as an 80’s-based concert in Epcot, themed treats (of course) came along with it. And, although we’re big Marvel fans, we’re not too sure that the Space Sandwich was as epic as the Guardians would have liked. Space Sandwich The flavors of the sammie were somewhat basic with barbecue pulled pork and crispy onions. But, that Kaiser bun was something else! The swirled blue colors were meant to look out-of-this-world cool, but they really just made the sandwich look kind of… gross and moldy. Space Sandwich Bun “Toasted blue” isn’t an appetizing way to describe bread, guys. Check out our review of all the Guardians of the Galaxy eats here! Crunchy Crabs Mitsukoshi Department Store is home to some very different snacks in the Japan Pavilion of Epcot. In their pre-packaged snack section, you can find eats like seaweed crackers, rice candy, and…crunchy crabs. Yup, you can buy tiny whole crabs, shells and all, that you eat from a bag. Squid and Crab Packages The taste is about what you’d expect for dried whole crustaceans. Even though the “Tamagogani” are coated in sugar, starch, soy sauce, and mirin, there isn’t enough flavor in the world to mask how the crabs tasted. We think our brave reviewer described them best, “Have you ever smelled an old fish tank? It tasted sort of like that smell.” Crab Package Now there’s definitely a cultural difference since we’ve got a more westernized palate, so if you’re from Japan and love these, let us know! Travel around the Japan Pavilion with us to look at all the other interesting eats! Space Charcuterie Let’s get real here — we’ve had some GREAT charcuterie boards in the parks. Wine Bar George and BaseLine Tap House are just two of our favorite spots for fancy meats and cheeses. So, we were super excited to find that Oga’s Cantina had a secret menu Charcuterie Board! But, while the other menu items at this spot really feel like you’re dining in a galaxy far, far away…the charcuterie board was something you could just make at home tbh (but probably wouldn’t want to!). Charcuterie Board at Oga’s Among the other items scattered on the plate, it’s important to mention that the charcuterie board came with roasted SPAM, PRE-PULLED string cheese (because THAT is apparently now a thing?), and pork rinds. Oga’s Secret Menu item Surprisingly, though, the SPAM and string cheese were the best parts. The board has since leveled up to the real menu where you’ll find it called the Happabore Sampler. It also got a slight re-plating, but the weird items remain. The big crime here isn’t what’s on the platter — I got no problem with spam or string cheese OR pork rinds — but the cost. For the $21 cost, we think much better charcuterie can be found around Disney World! Check out the secret menu Charcuterie Board (and other Oga’s items) here! Although there are a few items on this list that ranged from bad to great, we always love trying some of the strangest snacks that Disney World has to offer! When you visit the parks, it’s all part of the fun to expand your horizons. So, we recommend giving over to your weird side and tasting new things that you usually wouldn’t (or that look a little…different!). You might even find a new favorite snack! Like Poop Candy that they then steal away from you. What are some of the most bizarre snacks you’ve found in Disney World? Let us know in the comments below! The current status of Disney Parks worldwide remains the same: they are all temporarily closed in light of the ongoing global health situation. Shanghai Disneyland However, as we continue to research the potential reopening timelines for all Disney Parks and Disney destinations, one Resort in particular appears to have some potential for a re-opening in May 2020: Shanghai Disneyland. According to the New York Times, “Shanghai Disneyland, closed since January, is expected to reopen its main gates to a limited number of visitors in the next two-to-three weeks.” Additionally, social media is abuzz with the potential, including the tweet below from @gourmetdyy. Over the past few weeks, Shanghai Disneyland has been preparing for a reopening and testing its fireworks show. And partial operations at Shanghai Disneyland resumed on March 9, 2020, as a limited number of experiences in Disneytown, Wishing Star Park, and the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel are operating in limited capacity. However, we want to stress that there is no official or confirmed Walt Disney Company source at this time. The official Shanghai Disney Resort website still states that “Shanghai Disneyland remains temporarily closed until further notice.” We are keeping a close eye on this developing story, and as we continue to do so, we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, you can read more about the current closures impacting Disney Parks around the world by visiting any of the links below. You know we are full of expert Disney tips, but even we make some odd choices when it comes to our Disney trips sometimes. Magic Kingdom This may not be what people would classically recommend, but trust us — we have our reasons! Would YOU make some of these crazy choices on your next Disney World trip? Or have we just lost our marbles? Skipping Out On… This is your Disney trip, so you do what you want. You may find your trip to be even better if you choose to skip out on certain experiences that your facebook moms group said were MUST-DO! That said, here are a few things you have official permission to skip! Dinner Reservations Every Night If you’re traveling with a big group, during a busy time, or are trying to stick to a tight budget, making dinner reservations for every night of your trip may end up adding extra stress. There are plenty of ways to be spontaneous and enjoy a nice dinner at Disney without planning it all 180 days ahead of your trip. Tambu Lounge We have come to love relaxing and eating at lounges around Disney World. Reservations aren’t needed to eat in lounges, and often you can walk up and be accommodated right away. Even better, some of them even serve the exact same food as restaurants with hot-ticket reservations, like the California Grill Lounge adjacent to the ever-popular California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. California Grill Napkin We also recommend checking out Nomad Lounge in Animal Kingdom or Tutto Gusto in Epcot if you’re looking for great food in a relaxed atmosphere! Assorted Small Plates at Nomad Lounge Also, dear reader, it is more than OKAY to get fast food or counter service for dinner. Or eating a granola bar you brought from home. If you’re focused on doing more or getting the most out of your park ticket, you may not have time to sit down for a long dinner (or more importantly, you may not WANT to stop!). Grab some quick food and hop on those rides as the crowds start to drop! Click here for some of our top picks for Counter Service in Disney World! Going to the Parks Every Day Did you just audibly gasp? It’s okay, we get it. The parks are why you came to Disney World, right? Well as wonderful as the parks are, if you are scheduled for a jam-packed week at Disney, it’s hard to enjoy all that fun without some REST. Or maybe you just got into town, don’t have a ticket for your travel day, and need something to do that’s not throwing yourself immediately into the parks? Consider taking a day to spend at your resort or resort hop around other hotels, checking out what dining and activities the other Disney resorts have to offer! Luna Park Pool at Disney’s Boardwalk Disney resorts have tons of activities you can take part in (like animation classes at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, painting classes at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn OR free restaurant tours at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge). Plus some of our favorite restaurants are at the resorts! Animation Drawing Classes You can also spend a day exploring Disney Springs. There are a bunch of celebrity-owned restaurants and plenty of shopping to keep you occupied. Coconut Chocolate Rice Krispie When in doubt, you can build your own Mickey Rice Krispies Treat at Goofy’s Candy Company — it’s a snack and a show! Click here to see all the restaurants Disney Springs has to offer! Fireworks Shows If you love fireworks, by all means — go! But if you’ve seen them a bunch of times or just don’t care for them, take advantage of that precious time! ©Disney While a ton of other guests are waiting for and watching the show, lines for popular attractions like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Space Mountain can be much shorter than other times of the day! If you time it right, you can even catch the fireworks while ON a few rides, like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Splash Mountain! Also, don’t forget you can still hop in line for rides right up until the time the park closes, so if you’re all about those rides, make the most of those evening hours and cram lots in! Check out other Disney vacation hacks the pros SWEAR by! Adding in… Although we recommend taking the time to rest, there are still a few extra things we are adding in to make our Disney trip even better! A Halloween Party…in August? Okay, hear us out. We know Halloween isn’t until October, but mid-August is actually when Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom starts. This is a hard ticketed event meaning it’s an extra ticket (and extra cost) from regular park admission. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Going earlier in the season means you’ll get a cheaper ticket price! The first party this year is on August 13th and prices start at $85, going up to $149 on Halloween night. The Magic Kingdom closes early on party nights, giving Halloween Party guests lower crowds, access to exclusive merchandise and treats, trick or treating (with free [included with admission] candy!!), and special entertainment. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party If you aren’t visiting Disney World while Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is going on, you can go to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party through November and December! Tickets and dates for this year’s Christmas Parties haven’t been released just yet, but the same principle applies — the earlier the date, the cheaper the ticket! So grab your pumpkin spice latte in August and pretend it’s Halloween, bb! Click here to see our full review of last year’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! Our Own Straws Strawpocolypse has come to the parks. Last year, most locations around Disney World made the switch to recyclable paper straws over single-use plastic ones. While we’re all for helping out Mother Earth, instead of dealing with soggy straws, we opt to just bring our own! Flower and Garden Straws The paper straws tend to get mushy REALLY fast. If you’re trying to drink a frozen drink with one? Forget about it. You can find affordable sets of reusable straws on Amazon made of metal or silicone — and many even come with a little carrying bag! After trying a lot of different types, I much prefer the stainless steel straws (pick up your own here!). Or #upgrade with Disney reusable straws! Extra Breaks on Rides Even if you aren’t taking the full day to rest at the resorts, you can still find a moment of peace while you’re in the parks! The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover in Magic Kingdom is often overlooked but it makes for a peaceful ride and a great chance to recharge your mental batteries. PeopleMover You’ll get a tour above Tomorrowland, a glimpse inside Space Mountain, and it’s a GREAT place to people-watch — while you people move! Be sure to look out for the original Progress City model (what would later become Epcot!) during your ride. Progress City ©Disney Another great slow ride is the Liberty Square Riverboat. There aren’t too many seats, though, so be sure to try and snag one if you want to rest during the 22-minute ride around the river rather than stand. Click here to see other add-ons we think are worth considering on your Disney trip! Doing Our Own Thing By… We love our friends and families, but when things get busy on a Disney trip (especially if you put in a lot of effort planning), we just need a minute. And sometimes that can be the best for the group too! Walking to a Far Away Bathroom Not all bathrooms at Disney World are created equal and sometimes putting in a few extra steps can have a major payoff! Emporium Atmosphere Sometimes, the nearest or most popular restrooms are small and crowded. Or if you’re trying to use one after a show — forget it. So strap on your pedometer and head to other restrooms tucked away (they’re usually not that far!). New Restrooms in Epcot Some of our personal favorites are the NEW restrooms between the Imagination Pavilion and World Showcase, and the bathrooms to the right of The American Adventure Pavilion in Epcot (they are huge and never crowded). The restrooms near Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom are a bit more isolated and usually seem to not get too busy as well. Riding Alone If you’re looking for a way to drastically cut down on your attraction wait times, be sure to take advantage of single rider lines! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge It is single rider, so you won’t get to ride with your group, but you’ll all get to ride faster! We’ve seen Test Track stand-by lines at over an hour with the single-rider line somewhere around 10-20 minutes. Test Track You can also take advantage of single rider lines at Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom, along with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Just remember, if you hop in line with your friends or family, chances are you WILL be split up when riding, so don’t get your hopes up! Special Ordering Our Meal Disney World is typically super accommodating with special diets and requests, so if you need something, ask! If you’re allergic to something or just hate cilantro (US!), ask for your dish to come without it. Allergy-Friendly Enjoy Life Cookies with Apple Cider Most table service restaurants have an allergy-friendly menu that lists which items are free from the top eight allergens along with which items are vegetarian and vegan — just ask! Satu’li Canteen Allergy Menu If you’re booking an Advance Dining Reservation, you can note on the reservation any allergies in your party and your reservation ticket will be marked so the server knows right away. Or, just be sure to let your server know at the beginning of the meal. Hollywood & Vine Buffet If you have extra questions about the allergy menu your server can’t help with, the chef is usually willing to come out and help you out. This can be especially helpful at buffets where the chef can walk the buffet line with you and point out which items are OK for your diet or allergy. Don’t be afraid to ask — they’re happy to do it! Check out ALL the info you need to know about dining with allergies or diet accommodations here! Take Advantage of Bonus Magic By… Sometimes it pays off to not follow the crowds and enjoy certain experiences outside a sea of people! Hanging Out in World Showcase Before It’s Open The World Showcase in Epcot officially opens at 11AM, but coming from Future World, you can enter Mexico and Norway to the left and Canada, the United Kingdom, and France to the right when the park opens for the day. Canada Pavilion in The World Showcase The left side will likely be crowded with guests racing to Frozen Ever After or Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in the Norway Pavilion, but if you go to the right you can often enjoy a completely empty and quiet UK Pavilion. The gardens here offer a dose of tranquility pretty much any time of day but the morning is especially calm. The Tea Garden in the UK Pavilion If you’re looking for breakfast and don’t want to snag School Bread in bustling Norway, you can also head back to the France Pavilion for one of our favorite quick breakfast stops, Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie. Pretty much everything freshly baked at this wonderful bakery is a slam dunk, but they also have some of the best value Disney Dining Plan snack credit items that can easily become a meal! Grab an inexpensive breakfast like a Roulé Lard et Fromage (basically a huge stuffed cheese and bacon roll!) and stroll a calm World Showcase to kick off your Epcot day! Watch the From Fireworks Outside of the Park You may already know you can see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the California Grill at the top of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. But if you can’t get a reservation here or are just looking for a more casual spot to watch them without fighting the crowds IN the park, one of our favorite viewing spots is the beach of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Watch the Fireworks from the Polynesian Resort Beach! They normally play the music on the beach once the show starts and (in case you need one more reason) you can enjoy a Dole Whip from Pineapple Lanai or a Lapu Lapu from Tambu Lounge while you watch. Heavenly. You’ll even get a chance to watch the Electrical Water Pageant on Seven Seas Lagoon just before the fireworks begin as well! ©Disney Mastering having a great, stress-free time at Disney World is an art. What works for one person won’t for another. So think about your Disney World bucket-list priorities as well as what you like and dislike, then plan to make sure those things do (or don’t!) happen. Adding more and more to your Disney World vacation can add extra magic, but sometimes opting to give yourself a moment of calm can save you time, money, and sanity. If you miss Disney World right now, raise your hand! Magic Kingdom Ever since Disney World closed on March 16th, we’ve been missing our happy place. As one reader put it, “Still booked the end of August, cautiously optimistic we’ll be able to go.” We asked our readers when they would feel safe returning to Disney World. But we are waiting to see what a ‘reopened’ Disney looks like.” Hollywood Studios Others also have health concerns, “I had wanted to go back in the fall, but I’m immune compromised. Wait and see.” While this group wasn’t ready to count a trip out, they aren’t comfortable committing yet, “We are still debating, have looked at multiple dates and options but still playing it by ear.” Here’s how our readers responded when asked if they’re in favor of temperature checks at Disney World While many readers raised valid concerns about planning a 2020 trip to Disney World, the majority of respondents said they’re still moving forward with their plans for later this year! Theme parks all across Florida have been closed as a health and safety precaution (even though the Re-Open Florida Task Force has started to set guidelines for re-opening). ©SeaWorld Although SeaWorld Orlando has been shut down indefinitely, they are looking ahead to see how they can make guests’ experiences better when they open again. According to the Orlando Sentinel, SeaWorld Orlando Annual Passholders will automatically have their passes upgraded by one tier for FREE for the rest of this year. ©SeaWorld This means that “a gold passholder who had no blockout dates at Aquatica Orlando and SeaWorld Orlando now gets access to all the company’s 11 U.S. theme parks, including Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, under the platinum pass.” On top of this, SeaWorld has already stated they will extend annual passes by the amount of days the parks are closed and plans to add bring-a-friend dates once the theme parks re-open. ©SeaWorld If you’re an Annual Passholder who is unable to make monthly payments currently, SeaWorld is offering the ability to defer payments during this time. However, you will not be available for the tier upgrade. We will keep you updated with more info! Check out the 3-Phase Plan for re-opening Florida’s theme parks here! But if they do happen to reopen this month, we have to snag one of the May seasonal cupcakes at Sprinkles! One of our favorite things about Sprinkles is the delicious seasonal flavors they come up with! And the options for May have us swooning! And to really set the margarita mood, it’s finished with a salt rim! The Strawberry Shortcake Bar Cupcake is a vanilla cake filled with strawberry compote and topped with strawberry buttercream frosting AND cookie crumbles! You can grab this flavor from May 4th through May 31st! ©Sprinkles And there are a few options coming later this month too! From May 11th through May 17th Sprinkles is serving a Banana Split Cupcake.
