The Epcot Transformation has been underway for a while now. PLAY! Pavilion Concept Art ©Disney Honestly, we’re not sure what to look forward to the most. Is it perhaps the upcoming nighttime spectacular, Harmonious? Or maybe it’s World Celebration and Dreamers Point? Well, we certainly can’t discount the innovative and mysterious Play Pavilion. And it IS mysterious — but we might have just figured out even MORE of what will be inside! What We Know So Far First up, let’s chat about the information that Disney has already provided to us on the new Play Pavilion. Construction is currently underway on set design and structural elements in Epcot’s former Wonders of Life pavilion. The area is currently surrounded by construction walls for the neighboring Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Guardians of the Galaxy and Future Play Pavilion Construction According to Zach Riddley, portfolio executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, “This innovative, new pavilion is beyond anything we’ve ever created and is completely unique to Epcot.” Hmm…that’s a pretty lofty statement! What could possibly go beyond anything Disney has created? We’ll get into that later . Ridley goes on to say, “Built on the power of play, it introduces an immersive and interactive ‘city’ where you can explore, create, and interact with some of your favorite Disney characters. This is an experience worthy of our bold vision for Epcot – and another signature element of our transformation.” Epcot Experience So, the pavilion is supposed to be themed as a sort of digital metropolis that’s full of Disney characters, hands-on activities, and engaging entertainment. We know that some of these activities will include an Edna Mode experience where you will rid the world of uninspired style and the Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby experience where you’ll join a water balloon fight with the little ducks. Edna Mode As of now, the Play Pavilion is set to be completed by Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021 — although it’s still unclear if 2020’s historic park closures have had any effect on that timeline. Want to know more about the behind-the-scenes Play Pavilion work? Click here! Breaking Down the Concept Art Let’s talk a little bit about the concept art for the interior of the Play Pavilion; there’s a lot to unpack here. The depicted metropolis has several different components with facades showing Edna Mode (presumably for the Edna Mode experience), a “Dance” building, a cinema, Wedway (if that sounds familiar is because it’s part of the official original name of the PeopleMover! What!?!), and a “Hotel” building. PLAY! Pavilion Concept Art ©Disney Some aspects of the art appear to be some sort of transparent projection or holograms — particularly the Wedway sign. These could potentially use Disney’s updated Pepper’s Ghost method like they used with Rey in the preshow of Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. In front of the “Let’s Play!” building in the center, it appears that some sort of live performance could be going on. Rise of the Resistance A particularly interesting aspect of the art is that there are Disney characters wandering around. You can see a child holding hands with Mickey, Tinker Bell flying, Olaf hanging with guests, and more. Typically, Disney does not include characters in concept art unless they will actually be represented. If they don’t use a shocking amount of free-roaming characters, how could this be accomplished? Well, we have an idea. Click here to learn more about the tech behind Rise of the Resistance! Disney’s Virtual and Augmented Reality Innovations Much of the Play Pavilion remains a mystery. On the other hand, we’ve noticed an interesting trend recently that gives us an idea of what we might be seeing when the Play Pavilion opens. Disney has been putting in WORK on the tech side of things when it comes to augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). VR Experience Disney already has a solid relationship with VR. Imagineers and Walt Disney Studios have developed ways to use VR in the engineering and filmmaking processes. Disney has released some limited consumer VR products, and there’s a third-party VR experience in Disney World already — The VOID in Disney Springs. The VOID is a popular entertainment option, so why not apply that tech in the parks? We’ve been noticing more and more patent applications and approvals crop up from Disney with inventions in virtual reality. At first, we thought they could be for a consumer application such as virtual reality games or something like the already-released Star Wars: Jedi Challenges — but then, things started to get interesting. ©Disney Many of the patents have inventions that imply virtual reality would work together with tech in the external environment. These inventions wouldn’t be functional in a consumer’s home but COULD be functional in an external theme park environment. Let’s take a look at the patents we’ve seen that could have something to do with this theory. Want to learn more about Disney patents? Click here! VR/AR and the External Space The first patent we spotted that had to do with the external space was for a system that linked an AR experience with external stereo screens to give the AR user more depth. Augmented reality is a system that augments certain aspects of a user’s view instead of all of it like in Virtual Reality. The most famous example of this is the portable game Pokemon Go, but Disney has used AR before too. An animated figure appears through a screen into a real-world environment. ©Disney Disney has also recently filed patents for flooring that could work alongside an AR or VR system. One of the inventions allowed for dynamic VR ground effects and another allows for a floor system that could potentially stabilize those walking in VR. Flooring is a major point of innovation for the VR industry with the most immersive systems including omnidirectional treadmills. ©Disney But perhaps the most telling invention that Disney created is with a robot that syncs with an AR or VR system to provide a tactile experience. For example, in AR, Huey hands you a water balloon. At the exact same time through synced tech, a robot Huey hands you a tactile water balloon dupe. We know, we know. It sounds crazy and futuristic, but this is the tech that Disney has come up with. ©Disney The patent even mentions an application of throwing a ball or similar object — like a water balloon. We’re just sayin’! Interestingly enough, this tech is also what may be used for the lightsaber experience in the Disney parks. But that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be used in the Play Pavilion, too! Click here to learn more about how a robot can work alongside VR! VR/AR Optimization There are several other VR patents we’ve seen that focus on optimizing a system. We won’t run you through all of them, but we do want to talk about a few of the more interesting and exciting ones! Disney has recently developed a few innovations that help to make VR more realistic and immersive. One invention outlines a system for tracking objects in a VR Gaming experience so that the system can be aware of objects in use — sort of like motion tracking on an Xbox Kinect. ©Disney They’ve also worked on gaze-based audio to help make sure sound is coming from the right place and adapting an experience for user height so that various users can have a similar experience (like, say, parents and small children of varying heights). They’ve even come up with a way to create shared VR and AR experiences between multiple users! ©Disney Of course, none of this VR tech is useful unless Disney has a VR headset that they’re comfortable putting on guests. They could easily use a third-party headset, which we thought was the plan for a while. That is until we found a patent for (you guessed it) a VR Head-Mounted Display! So, as you can see, Disney has been heavily investing in VR tech outputs — and it seems to be paying off. Click here to see Disney’s previous use of AR! Could the Play Pavilion be an AR/VR-centric space? Keeping in mind what we know about the Play Pavilion and Disney’s recent AR and VR enhancements, we’re wondering if the experiences in the Play Pavilion could be AR/VR-centric. Again, it’s hard to believe that such a futuristic system could exist but the technology IS available. Wonders of Life becoming Play! Pavilion Many VR headsets are unwieldy and wired in — not functional for guest wear. However, there are more lightweight options such as Microsoft’s goggles-style display and AR applications don’t need to be nearly as bulky. So it’s not unrealistic that guests could wear a virtual reality headset in the parks. Based on the new tech, we’re wondering if the Play Pavilion could be a mix of physical effects and AR/VR to provide a totally unique experience and fully immerse guests in the world and story of the Pavilion. This could help with realistic character interactions, immersive games, and more. That sounds like it could be the answer to the “completely unique” experience that Ridley suggests, doesn’t it? Epcot Map with Play Pavilion This is even more practical since the Epcot pavilion provides an enclosed space. You can’t use VR in a large-scale space outdoors, but an enclosed pavilion or rooms in the pavilion would allow Disney to control guest experience and the technology in an isolated area. The building can be developed to optimally support these AR/VR experiences. Epcot Experience Of course, this is all theory based on real patents — but WOULDN’T IT BE COOL?! We can’t wait for the reveal of the Play Pavilion next year, or even just for more details to be shared! So far, we’ve learned that some folks could potentially have a harder time getting to Disney World than others based on where they reside! Our friends in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut know all ABOUT it! Magic Kingdom Well, did you know that our Canadian neighbors are also under a restriction that could likely pose a problem for any travel plans they had down in Florida! And just yesterday, the United States and Canada reached a mutual agreement to extend the closure of its border for another 30 days. The border has been closed for all non-essential travel since March 18th and has been extended on a monthly basis ever since. Canada Spirit Jersey The travel ban is now set to expire on July 21st, 2020 while Americans who are returning to the U.S. and Canadians who are returning to Canada are still exempt from the border closure. Disney Cruise Line has also canceled the remainder of its Canadian itineraries due to officials banning all cruise ships carrying more than 100 passengers until October 31, 2020. The many questions we have about Disney World’s reopening are starting to get some answers! Animal Kingdom Lodge We’re just a few days out from the reopening of several Disney Vacation Club resort hotels in Disney World. Recently, we noticed that DVC members COULD book at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House, despite it not being listed as one of the resorts opening on June 22nd. Now, we have some new information. Disney added a new statement to the Jambo House page on the Disney Vacation Club site that explains the situation. Jambo House will NOT be opening in the initial stage on June 22nd. Instead, those with existing reservations will have their bookings transferred to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village. As capacities grow, Jambo House will eventually reopen to accommodate. Jambo House Statement The statement also notes that when Jambo House does reopen, some amenities and restaurants may remain closed until the full reopening of Animal Kingdom Lodge. Dining and merchandise locations will be open at Kidani Village, though. Animal Kingdom Lodge We’ll be keeping a close eye on all the newest information about the resort hotels and we’ll be reporting LIVE from reopening day on June 22nd. Since theme parks have started to reopen, one of their highest priorities has been implementing stricter health and sanitation procedures. Disney Springs Sign Although Disney World and Disneyland haven’t welcomed guests back just yet (but will soon!!), Disney has still started to implement some of its heath and safety procedures in Disney Springs. On top of the temperature checks, social distancing measures, and face mask requirements, restrooms (yes, restrooms) have even switched things up, too. However, during our time at Universal Orlando, we noticed that their bathroom regulations were well-thought-out for safety, convenience, and cleanliness for everyone visiting. And, before the Disney Parks reopen, they might need to take a few notes from Universal on how restroom facilities should operate. Universal Orlando Safety Measures Universal has REALLY been on top of their game with everything we have seen in the parks. Although there have been some bumps in the road (remember the Mobile Order chaos during the opening week?), Universal Orlando has done whatever it can to iron out the kinks and continue to provide the best experiences for guests. Hogsmeade From what we’ve seen, Universal’s temperature checks have been running smoothly. Hotel guests are given wristbands if they have already been screened to lessen the amount of time spent re-checking everyone. The sanitation measures are also well thought out with hand-sanitizer stations everywhere, attractions being wiped down after use, and more. Temp Checks at Universal We’ve also noted the attention to distancing with characters placed on stage or behind roped off areas, dots to stand on to watch shows, and distancing signs and stickers throughout the parks to keep everyone six feet apart at all times. These 6 things surprised us at Universal Orlando’s re-opening! How Ya Doin’, Homer?? Universal Orlando Restrooms But, while there have been consistent signs to remind everyone of the health and safety procedures in the parks, the bathrooms have also been managed extremely well. There are signs outside the restrooms pointing to the nearest available stops and signs inside the restrooms to reassure guests that facilities would be cleaned frequently. We also spotted a number of signs instructing guests to use every other sink to maintain distancing. Restroom Signs at Universal Universal even shuts restrooms down for a short period of time to do another round of heavy cleaning, just to make sure things are cleaned to their standards. Within the restrooms and stalls, there is still a lot of social distancing and space implemented so guests don’t have to feel worried about an overcrowded area during afternoon rushes to the restrooms. Restrooms The amount of time spent on something as simple as a restroom shows that Universal has been putting a LOT of thought and effort into their sanitation and custodial measures in the parks. Here’s everything you need to know about wearing masks on theme parks rides! Disney Springs Safety Measures Disney has also placed strict health and safety measures all around Disney Springs to make sure that Cast Members and guests are protected. On top of the temperature checks and hand-sanitizing stations, there are also new procedures in restaurants and stores (they’ve implemented Virtual Queues and QR menus to promote distancing and contactless protocols). World of Disney Queue Disney has continued to find ways to clean high-touch spaces and maintain cleanliness throughout different locations, all while allowing guests to still have great experiences during their time in the shopping and dining district. These 5 Disney World changes aren’t nearly as bad as we imagined! Disney Springs Restrooms However, opposed to the rest of Disney Springs, the restroom situation seems to pale in comparison to Universal’s methods. Disney Springs has SO many signs and markers around the area to clearly designate to guests what each sign means and what to do. Pin Traders But, the restrooms haven’t seen much change from what they were previously like before. While there are distancing markers outside most restrooms, there are no signs pointing out the restroom areas like Universal and no signs in the restrooms with detailed guidelines either. Restrooms The same towels dispensers with the pull-down towels and little turning knobs are still present as they had been previously (which is pretty high-touch, if you think about it). Air-blowing hand dryers are still available too, though it’s widely regarded that these sorts of driers actually spread more germs than they prevent. Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean Disney is cleaning any less! We’ve seen custodial teams in restrooms constantly to keep things sanitary. Restroom The lack of signage in Disney Springs restrooms is very contrary to the extensive information we usually see around the shopping and dining district, let alone at other parks. Here is what our full experience has been like visiting Disney Springs! Although there have been other interesting ideas that Disney could take from Universal’s reopening, the amount of signs and instructions for restrooms is especially something that Disney World should think of implementing. The additional signage likely does make guests feel reassured about the sanitation procedures around the parks. Cast Member with required face mask Disney tends to go above and beyond to help guests and keep them informed, and this would be another way to do so. Since there are so many changes happening in the parks, this extra bit of information and guidance would continue to help guests feel safe, like it seems to have done so far in Universal Orlando. Disney Springs Restrooms Of course, Disney could have this already installed in its parks (and we won’t know until they re-open in July). While updated signage in restrooms hasn’t been installed in Disney Springs just yet, it might be another update Disney should look into in the future! The last year has brought some significant changes to theme parks. Hollywood Studios Before Park Opening Waiting to Get Boarding Groups for Rise of the Resistance We’ve been seeing a TON of changes as Florida theme parks (and beyond) reopen from their historic closures this year, but our focus is on an even more noticeable change. Prior to the closures, we started to see Virtual Queues in theme parks, and now they’re expanding more as a health measure. So, let’s take a look at the pros and cons of Virtual Queues, and how YOU can navigate them like a pro! How do Virtual Queues work? We’ve seen a few instances of virtual queues used in the past few years at the Disney Parks and most recently at Universal Orlando and Shanghai Disneyland. Though there are slight variations in the different systems, there are also a lot of similarities. World of Disney Virtual Queue sign The Virtual Line at Universal Orlando uses the free Universal app on your smartphone. Once they’re in the park, the app gives guests the option of reserving a spot in line for any of the attractions that offer Virtual Lines. You can reserve a spot in line for up to two rides at a time and once you use those reservations, you’re free to make more. Universal’s Virtual Line is the only example where some attractions have both a Virtual Line and a standard standby line available at the same time. Disney World and Disneyland have used a system that is slightly different at the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and later at the opening of Rise of the Resistance. Both systems utilize a Boarding Group method where guests use the My Disney Experience app to reserve a space in a Boarding Group. These groups would then get called in order throughout the day (starting with Boarding Group 1 and moving up) and you could head to the ride when yours was called (via a push notification to your phone). Rise of the Resistance Crowds Of course, the system works a little differently when it’s used for a whole land, like Galaxy’s Edge, instead of a singular attraction. In Disneyland, the Boarding Groups offered a four-hour window during which guests were allowed in the land. When those four hours were up, guests from the current boarding group were required to leave the land to make way for the next boarding group. However for an attraction like Rise of the Resistance, the boarding group simply meant you were permitted to enter the queue once your group was called. The most recent Disney implementation of a virtual queue is the Disney Standby Pass in Shanghai Disneyland. This pass is currently in a trial period but gets rid of a physical line much like other implementations of a Virtual Queue. The Standby Pass is a free service through the Shanghai Disney Resort Official App. New passes become available hourly and allow guests to enter the standby line during a specific hour-long period, much in the same way that Disneyland’s MaxPass system has worked. Virtual Line As you can see, there are some differences in the implementation of Virtual Queues, but the general process remains the same: guests use an app to reserve a specific window of time to access the ride. This keeps them out of the physical line and able to enjoy other areas of the parks while they wait for their designated ride time. Click here to see how HIGH DEMAND the Virtual Queue was for Rise of the Resistance! The Pros of Virtual Queues As you can probably expect, there are a lot of advantages to using these queues. They definitely help to allow for physical distancing in reopened parks. We’ve seen them effectively help to keep large crowds from clustering in a high-demand queue like Universal’s Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. The same could be true if they were used to control crowds in more high-demand areas of the parks. Virtual Line A behind-the-scenes pro of Virtual Queues is that they allow Disney and other parks to regulate the number of guests entering the queue in a given window of time. Disney, for instance, knows their rides’ capacities so that they can maximize riders and minimize wait times. The Universal method is actually somewhat similar to Disneyland Resort’s MaxPass offering, and since you reserve rides two at a time throughout the day, that means that your day is not as structured. This has the effect of everyone getting a chance to ride the rides they want. There are no rides with availability running out first thing in the morning (like we were seeing each and every morning with Rise of the Resistance). Everyone is on an even playing ground. Line for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure When we tried out Universal’s Virtual Line, it felt pretty practical. You can plan out your day without that plan being too rigid, and you’ll spend less time waiting in line. With no pre-planning, we felt like we could’ve gotten on every single attraction in the course of a day! That’s pretty cool. Plus, these systems can be flexible so that they can adjust for the demand. In Universal, once crowds started to lessen later in the day — they could turn the Virtual Line feature off. This allows for even MORE measured control of guests and ultimately can make for a more pleasant park day. Click here for a FULL breakdown of Universal’s Virtual Line! The Cons of Virtual Queues But, the systems are not perfect. They can get wonky if there’s really high demand. The Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue essentially turned into a lottery system for those who got to the parks HOURS before it opened. This resulted in a situation where people who couldn’t get to the park until later in the day didn’t have a chance to ride at all. Rise of the Resistance opening day in Disneyland In Universal, some rides were Virtual Line only; and Disneyland Shanghai’s Standby Pass shuts down access to the ride for anyone who DOESN’T have the pass. This can limit options for anyone who is unable to get a spot in the Virtual Queues for whatever reason. Standby Pass Rules Perhaps one of the biggest cons is that these Virtual Queue systems are not super accessible for those who aren’t tech-savvy or those who don’t have a smartphone. These folks could have a LOT of trouble in situations where the Virtual Line is the only option — and that doesn’t really seem fair. Want to learn more about the Disney Standby Pass? Click here! Pro Tips! So, let’s talk tips so that you can get the full advantage of these Virtual Queues! First off, if you’re having trouble with the system (whether from glitches or because you’re not the most tech-savvy), ask a Cast Member or Team Member. They will be happy to help you and get everything worked out! It’s also beneficial to screenshot any important info (just in case!). If your booking suddenly disappears from your phone, it helps to have a photo you can show a Cast Member to prove it was there in the first place. Advent Health Cast Member at Temperature Screening And what happens when a ride breaks down during your ride window? When rides break down at Universal Studios, those with active Virtual Queue windows are given the equivalent of a Multi-Experience Fastpass. Keep in mind, though, that you should give it some time after the ride comes back up before you head back. Hagrid’s broke down in Universal while we were there; since there was no express line, the line was SUPER long when we came back as all the people returned as SOON as the ride was running again. Finally, and perhaps the most important tip, BRING A PORTABLE CHARGER! Having a functional phone is more important than ever when you’re in theme parks now. If your phone dies early in the day, you’re going to have a lot of trouble navigating the parks. So, be prepared! FuelRod Station FuelRod chargers are available at stations around the parks and resorts for $30 with unlimited free exchanges after your initial purchase, or you can bring your own charger from home. Here’s one of our favorites. And there you have it! Now you know everything there is to know about this relatively new advent in theme parks. We’ll let you know as soon as more information is revealed pertaining to virtual queues in the Disney Parks. You can keep checking in with DFB for updates about Virtual Queues in Disney and beyond! Like most people I know, I try to eat healthy the majority of the time but treat myself to occasional indulgences when they’re worth the splurge! One of my favorite places to find some sweet treats here in Orlando is Gideon’s Bakehouse, which is why I’m so excited to share this small, award-winning bakery is opening a new location in The Landing at Disney Springs! Anticipating to open later this year, Gideon’s is best known for small-batch, handmade, almost half-pound cookies (yes, you read that right, half-pound) and cakes. Not only does their size make these cookies so special, Gideon’s brings its own spin to cookie flavors like Peanut Butter Crisp, Cookies & Cream and my absolute favorite, Pistachio Toffee Dark Chocolate. “This opportunity is truly a dream come true and will allow us to flex all of our creative muscle in both desserts and décor. We’re passionate, inspired, and ready,” said Steve Lewis, owner and creator of Gideon’s Bakehouse. Gideon’s plans to bring an expanded menu of cookie and cake slices to Disney Springs, plus add its own line of unique iced coffees, like the Original Peanut Butter Iced Coffee. Of course, guests can expect to find their favorite cookie flavors along with new and limited editions offered during special daily releases. The ever-popular Coffee Cake Cookie (previously only available one month a year) will be on sale every morning, with a Hot Cookie Hour each evening for those looking to cure a sweet tooth after dinner. “We’re also excited to bring more cake flavors to our new location, offering never-before-seen creations like our special line of Double Frosted Cakes.” Steve said. “There are more than a few secrets we have up our sleeves that you’ll just have to wait to see. It’s not Gideon’s if it isn’t a little dark and mysterious.” We aim to even make the wait in line entertaining by immersing everyone in a transformative environment that will share our story as guests progress toward the counter.” Guests can also look forward to collectible art becoming a part of the product packaging at the new bakery, which will be located in The Landing across from Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar. The new Gideon’s location is being created with health-and-safety considerations in mind and its operation will model similar guidelines in use elsewhere in Disney Springs. Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for future updates. In the meantime, be sure to follow Gideon’s Bakehouse on Instagram at @gideonsbakehouse for drool-worthy desserts! View the full article

First, let’s take a ride on one of the park’s most popular attractions, and then feast our eyes on some of the resort’s most sought-after dishes! Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars debuted in 2012 as the signature attraction in an entire new land, Grizzly Gulch. Disney parks are famous for their “runaway” mine trains, and this attraction took thrills to the next level by adding new twists, including a section where you actually ride backward and experience an explosive launch out of a mine. In this new “Ride & Learn” video for Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars, you’ll discover all sorts of fascinating facts as you hurtle around Grizzly Gulch. (Do you know the names of the three bears you meet while aboard the train? Well, you will now…) And what better way to celebrate a fun trip on a runaway mine train than with a little bite to eat! In honor of the reopening of Hong Kong Disneyland, here’s a look at some mouth-watering Disney Dim Sum we know guests can’t wait to order again at the Crystal Lotus restaurant inside the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. Guests with upcoming reservations to Disney World have a multitude of new health and safety procedures to be aware of before they even leave home! But there’s more to preparing for your next Disney World vacation than linking your park admission to My Disney Experience. Beach Club Resort Another new measure to be aware of before leaving home comes in the form of a health acknowledgement, which was recently added to Disney World’s website. Guests who wish to come to Disney World may not exhibit any symptoms that could possibly be linked to the coronavirus. Although it seems like this may be on the honor’s system, the acknowledgement does state that guests who display symptoms including (but not limited to) fever, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, and coughing “must not enter Walt Disney World Resort.” © Disney Guests wishing to visit Disney World must also abide by the acknowledgement that they have not been in contact with anyone with confirmed or suspected symptoms without completing a 14-day quarantine and are not under any self-quarantine orders. This acknowledgement is preceded on the website with Disney’s warning regarding the virus. © Disney Disney is making it abundantly clear that by visiting Walt Disney World Resort, not only do you acknowledge that you are free from any symptoms related to the virus, but that you also “voluntarily assume all risked related to exposure.” Similar signage can already be seen around Disney Springs. Warning sign when you enter Disney Springs There’s a lot to keep straight these days, from knowing how dining in Disney World will look different when the restaurants reopen to preparing for your resort stay. Hello from Shanghai Disney Resort! Today, we’re celebrating the fourth anniversary of Shanghai Disneyland’s opening in 2016 – a moment that is particularly meaningful to all of us, since it comes just over one month following the much-anticipated reopening of our park. Our recent phased reopening has been a memorable part of our journey, with each day bringing magic back to the resort, beginning with the return of the shopping and dining experiences at Disneytown and Wishing Star Park in March. From Disneytown to Shanghai Disneyland, it has been wonderful to welcome our cast members and guests back to the magic. We’ve been encouraged by our guests’ overwhelmingly positive feedback and grateful for their support for new health and safety measures. Over the past three months, guests have returned to Disneytown and rated it the highest since it opened in 2016. As we gradually increase capacity throughout the resort, we have also seen a steady increase in guests at our Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, and I am pleased to share that we have now reopened Toy Story Hotel as well. Inside the park, we’ve taken another step forward with the return of our theater shows – “Eye of the Storm: Captain Jack’s Stunt Spectacular” and “Frozen: A Sing-Along Celebration” – and the opening of “Disney Color-Fest,” our colorful new seasonal show. At Shanghai Disneyland, Mickey, Minnie, and friends are greeting our guests in new ways; guests are showing off their best Disney-inspired styles in the park; and fan-favorite attractions like TRON Lightcycle Power Run are thrilling visitors once again. While guests are falling in love with their old favorites all over again, they are also being treated to new offerings, including the opening of our new store, Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Trading Post in Adventure Isle. We are also extremely excited to welcome a new friend to the resort: ‘Olu Mel! This music-loving turtle from Hawaii has joined Duffy and his friends to delight guests, while appearing in a variety of new ways in the park. June is also a big month for Donald and his fans! To celebrate his birthday, Donald is taking over the resort, with staycation and birthday offerings, and fun new merchandise and food and beverages, just in time for summer! Thank you to all the guests who have joined us at the park over the past four years – and for those planning to visit us, we can’t wait to welcome you. It’s going to be a magical summer at Shanghai Disneyland! View the full article
