Walt Disney World theme parks are officially open to the public. New health and safety regulations were implemented to increase sanitation and encourage physical distancing between travel groups. Disposable Face Mask Per regulations, guests are required to wear face-coverings at all times. Disney has set specific requirements for masks and will only accept guests who have the proper coverage. The only time guests are allowed to remove the mask is when they are actively eating or drinking while stationary or at a relaxation station. Disney has placed signs throughout the property reminding folks to wear masks and also asked Cast Members to carry small signs to ensure guests are wearing the proper coverage. Disney’s current mask policy is fairly detailed and has seen a few updates in the last two weeks. The first update restricted guests from using neck gaiters and bandanas. Now, Disney has banned any masks that have valves, mesh material, or holes of any kind. ©Disney NEW face-cover signs were seen at the entrance to EPCOT today. The sign is incredibly detailed and lists ALL of Disney’s requirements for face-coverings as well as what is not permitted. This sign reflects the brand new policy that disqualifies masks with valves and holes. Face Covering Sign at EPCOT The detailed message will allow guests to read the mask specifications before heading to the theme parks’ entrance. While the sign displays all the face-covering specifications, it was created to highlight the new policy regarding valves and holes. New Face Covering Sign Many health and safety regulations have changed since the park’s closure in March and continue to change while the theme parks are ramping up again. We will keep you informed as we hear about updated changes around all Disney theme parks! Read about the health and safety regulations Disney has implemented here! Though Disney Springs has reopened there are still some construction projects that are dealing with the effects of the global health crisis. Beatrix Construction Just last week we found out that Ample Hills Creamery will no longer be coming to Disney Springs, and now we know that another project is on HOLD for now. Beatrix Restaurant, Market & Coffee Bar, an upcoming Disney Springs location has currently paused its construction. According to a spokesperson from Beatrix, due to the global health crisis, “things are on hold and a restart date has not yet been determined” for the upcoming Beatrix location in Disney Springs. The new restaurant is set to feature healthy foods including vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options along with fresh-squeezed juice cocktails. ©Disney We’re can’t wait to see what all this location has in store when it opens. Things are looking a little bit different today in Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand U.S.A. We paid a visit to this section which hosts the park’s very own wacky and whimsical street carnival… and just so happens to be home to Primeval Whirl. Primeval Whirl The attraction had only been operating seasonally for some time. However, it was recently revealed that Primeval Whirl is one of three attractions permanently closing in Walt Disney World. And today, a visit to Primeval Whirl shows that the work of the permanent closure has begun in earnest, as ride vehicles have been removed from the winding, whirling tracks. Primeval Whirl Swirling spins, dizzying drops, and punny humor made up this roadside attraction. And even though it has not been open to guests on a regular basis for a while now, it still had its share of fans… including yours truly. Primeval Whirl Primeval Whirl For those of us who are sad to see it go, we echo the sentiment of one of the charmingly silly signs in the attraction: “This really extincts.” Primeval Whirl Check out our coverage of the reopening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom here! There is, of course, still plenty to enjoy in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and you can read all about our experiences in the park during its initial reopening phase here. For more on the reopening of Walt Disney World, you can also visit any of the links below. Are you sad to see Primeval Whirl go? Please let us know with a comment. Disney World has been in the process of reopening for over a month now and we’re getting used to the new normal. Topolino’s Terrace Dining Room We’ve been adjusting to the new health measures like face masks and temperature checks, and it seems Disney has done some adjusting of its own. Though we’ve already had to get our temperatures checked in Disney Springs and at the theme parks, Disney World just updated its temperature screening mandate to apply to table-service restaurants in the resort hotels. Today, we noticed an update to the Disney World website that notes that “guests dining in table-service restaurants at Disney Resort hotels will undergo a temperature screening prior to entering the location.” Disney Screenshot In line with the Disney World temperature screening policy, those with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be directed to a rescreening. If it is determined that a guest does have a temperature over 100.4, their party will not be granted entry. Grand Floridian Cafe The Temperature Screenings information section on the Disney World website has been updated to reflect this information as well. Now, those places where a temperature check is required include the theme parks, Disney Springs, and table-service restaurants at the Disney World resort hotels. Disney Screenshot We’ll keep you updated on any other changes to the temperature screening policy and how this plays out in the resorts. We will also let you know how this process looks and works. Stay tuned! Click here to learn more about temperature checks in Disney World. What do you think of the addition of temperature screenings at these dining locations? Tell us in the comments! Shanghai Disneyland reopened to guests on May 11, 2020. Of course, as has been the case with other Disney Parks around the globe — including Walt Disney World Resort — experiences around the park have been modified or suspended during the initial reopening phase in light of new health and safety measures. Shanghai Disneyland This has included the temporary suspension of nighttime fireworks spectaculars. However, an update on the Shanghai Disney Resort website shares that fireworks are returning to Shanghai Disneyland! There is, however, a bit more to the story… Ignite the Dream — A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light is listed with showtimes running through August 2nd. Shanghai Disney Resort website screenshot There is, though, a notice that you can see underneath the banner: “Ignite the Dream – A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light is currently in trial operations. During this period we may make operational adjustments, and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.” So, it appears that Shanghai Disneyland will take this week to monitor the situation and perhaps make adjustments as needed before potentially adding any further dates to the calendar. (You may even recall when the fireworks were seen in testing.) Shanghai Disneyland Fireworks Testing In any case, it looks like guests will be able to enjoy fireworks in the sky above Enchanted Storybook Castle once again… at least for a limited time! We’ll keep you updated as this story develops. And to learn more about the reopening of Walt Disney World Resort, you can check out the links below. Have you ever visited Shanghai Disneyland? There’s been a pretty big change to the Disney World resort hotel reopening plans this morning. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Several Disney World resort hotels have had their reopening dates delayed, and that means there’s a whole new round of affected guests who will need to deal with their reservations. Today, Disney has confirmed that they will give affected guests the option to move their reservation to another hotel at no charge. Previously in the reopening process, some guests affected by cancellations and schedule changes have had to pay the difference if they wanted to modify their reservation to a different resort. With the current changes, that is no longer the case. Now, those looking to modify can do so at no additional cost. Disney Statement The delayed dates that this statement applies to are the following: Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was set to open on August 12th and will now be opening on October 4th. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort was set to open on August 12th and will now be opening on November 1st. Disney’s Beach Club Resort was set to open on August 24th and will now be closed until further notice. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn was set to open on October 1st and will now be closed until further notice. Art of Animation Resort If you are affected by the recent change in reopening dates, Disney will be contacting you with information on your options. We’ve been exploring the Disney World theme parks A LOT now that all four have reopened! EPCOT And while we all know park hopping is temporarily unavailable during the initial phase of Disney World’s reopening, we also know a lot of you folks back home are curious if guests can resort hop at Disney World right now. And we’re not gonna lie — it’s a little confusing right now. The official terminology on Disney World’s website states, to even get INTO a Disney World hotel right now, guests will need a confirmed room reservation, or a confirmed dining reservation if you’re a day guest not staying overnight. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort This has been the official policy on Disney World’s website since several Disney World resort hotels reopened last month BEFORE the parks. Now that the monorail, Skyliner, buses, and other forms of interconnecting transportation are running and many walkways connecting the theme parks to the resorts have reopened, can you still resort hop? What IS resort hopping (and why would anyone want to do it)? First of all, we should probably backtrack a little and cover all our bases since some of our readers might not be familiar with the term “resort hopping.” The general principle behind resort hopping is the same as park hopping, only you don’t need a special Park Hopper ticket to visit any of the various hotels at Disney World. Resort Hopping at its simplest is just checking out OTHER Disney World resorts you might not be staying at. This could be to try the food, experience the atmosphere, or maybe sample a special activity. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort And as for why anyone would want to resort hop, it can be fun to do, and it’s usually completely free! The theme parks are great and all, but sometimes you just need to break up your trip (and give your wallet a break for a day) with a few non-theme park adventures! Disney’s Beach Club Resort Resort hopping is also a great way to check out potential places you might like to stay someday down the road, dine at new restaurants, and experience new lounges…it’s just a neat thing to do especially if you’re excited to see what other hotels are like at Disney World. You can’t walk into any guest rooms and certain areas might be off-limits to non-guests (resort pools, for instance, are limited to just guests of that resort), but the lobbies and most of the grounds are usually fair game to visitors! So can you still visit other hotels? The answer is yes and no. From our experience these last few weeks (and especially recently now that Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT have reopened — all of which are within walking distance of some of the hotels), it’s still really inconsistent. Monorail at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Based on which resort you’re trying to get to, you might have an easier or tougher time, and often it depends largely on the Cast Members you encounter when trying to enter the resort. But we do have some resort hopping tips and tricks we’ve picked up that we want to share with you! Resort Hopping Dos and Don’ts DO have a dining reservation or a Mobile Order placed for pick-up at the resort you’re trying to visit. We’ve had no trouble visiting Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa recently because we’ve been using a dining reservation or placing a Mobile Order using the My Disney Experience app to get in. That’s right — all of the Cast Members we’ve encountered so far are cool with us being at the resort as long as we’re dining in or picking up some grub! We Checked Out the Grand Floridian After a Breakfast Reservation at Grand Floridian Cafe If you’re not familiar with Mobile Order, it’s basically Disney’s smartphone-based program where you can pre-order and pay for meals at quick-service locations around Disney World. In the My Disney Experience app you can select and customize what you’d like to order and set a pickup time, and once you arrive, your food will be prepared for you. It’s easy, free to use, and Disney is HIGHLY encouraging use of it at all available quick-service locations. Mobile Order being offered at Primo Piatto at Disney’s Riviera Resort Think of food as your Golden Ticket into the hotels right now. It’s a great chance to try out some resort restaurants you may have never experienced or to scope out the latest and greatest treats at each resort’s quick-service location (one of our favorite pastimes!). Stitch Cupcake We’ve taken the monorail to visit each of the Magic Kingdom-area hotels and haven’t run into any issues yet. When the Poly and Grand Flo first reopened, we were told their walkway was open for guests to move between the two resorts. Guests can also walk back and forth from Magic Kingdom to Disney’s Contemporary Resort in case you want to grab a quick bite at Chef Mickey’s which is now open, although it’s no longer a character meal for the time being. Click here to learn more about Mobile Order in reopened Disney World DON’T be too early for your dining reservation But like we said, some of the resorts are a bit more complicated. When we recently drove to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge for our dining reservation, we were stopped by a Security Cast Member at the gate who told us we were too early. This happened at the Beach Club Resort as well. Ultimately, he let us in, but with a warning that arriving too early could result in you being turned away until closer to your reservation time. He recommended we wait in our car until closer to our reservation time and not wander. This has been the exception to the rule so far for us. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Basically, arrive within 15-30 minutes of your dining reservation time. So how WAS our dining experience at Wilderness Lodge that day? Click here to find out! Where can you easily resort hop? Keep in mind you can always hop in your car or get a rideshare over to the resort of your choice, but some resorts are just inherently easier to resort hop than others. We already covered the wonderful Monorail resorts above but these are still some of the most easily accessible resorts for guests — especially those coming from a day in the Magic Kingdom. Even Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is relatively easily accessed by boat from Magic Kingdom. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort From EPCOT, you can walk to Disney’s Beach Club Resort to visit Beaches and Cream Soda Shop but not Disney’s Yacht Club Resort since that side of the hotel is still closed to guests. Several dining locations are now open at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn as well, although only the DVC villas have reopened. The rest of the resort is set to reopen on October 1st. Beach Club At EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can also hop on Disney’s Skyliner to access Disney’s Pop Century Resort or Disney’s Riviera Resort. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort (reopening August 12th) and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (reopening July 29th) are not open at this time. Skyliner Gondolas Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, as well as a few third-party hotels on Disney property are open as well, but each of these resorts is a bit more isolated than the more easily accessible hotels listed above. You’ll still find dining options and activities at each you can enjoy. Resort hopping isn’t quite as intuitive or spontaneous as it used to be, but for now, guests can still enjoy visiting the various Disney World hotels with a little careful planning! And for folks who are heading to Disney World soon, find out how to make the most of your vacation without park hopping here! Most people who are booking their Disney World vacations right now don’t know THIS! Do you enjoy resort hopping at Disney World? Let us know which hotels you enjoy visiting in the comments below! The Disney World theme parks have officially reopened, but the resort still has a ways to go before it’s fully back in business. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Though many Disney Vacation Club resorts reopened back in June, we’re still patiently waiting for the reopening of the other Disney World resort hotels. Well, it seems like we’ll need to wait a little longer for some. Disney has officially DELAYED the reopenings of several Disney World resorts. Read on to learn more. Disney has released a statement that opening dates do remain subject to change due to the fluidity of the global health crisis. This has gone into effect with Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. Disney Statement Initially, Polynesian Village Resort and Art of Animation Resort were set to reopen on August 12th. Now, the Polynesian has a set date of October 4th, and Art of Animation will reopen on November 1st. Though Beach Club and BoardWalk were supposed to reopen August 24th and October 1st respectively, they have now both been removed from the reopening calendar. Updated Dates Table For those with reservations that are affected by the change of date, Disney will contact you with options available to either modify your reservation to another Disney Resort hotel at no additional cost or cancel your reservation without any Disney-imposed fees. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is not only a Star Wars fan’s dream, but the lands in Disney World and Disneyland have so many gorgeous details. Rise of the Resistance While we’ve been back to piloting the Millennium Falcon on Smugglers Run and joining the Resistance on Rise of the Resistance, there is so much more to explore in Galaxy’s Edge. According to the Orange County Register, a new Star Wars book states that three festivals may be coming to the parks soon! While we haven’t seen any holiday celebrations in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World and Disneyland yet, the Traveler’s Guide to Batuu has given details about the Black Spire Day, Batuuan Harvest Festival, and Life Day. Stormtroopers The Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Imagineering book is an “in-world travel guide to the Black Spire Outpost village” with backstories for characters and locations throughout Batuu. While it gives some recommendations on shopping, dining, and sight-seeing locations, the Traveler’s Guide to Batuu also may give a few hints about the holiday seasons that could be coming to Galaxy’s Edge in the parks. Rey and Chewbacca Black Spire Day Although we LOVE Star Wars Day on May the Fourth, Batuuans also celebrate Black Spire Day on May 4th as well. The holiday celebrates the founding of the outpost with colorful tarps, ribbons, and flowers decorating the land. The book also states that “Locals sing traditional songs, feast, and tie wishes to the Trilon tree. Sometimes the evening ends in a procession through the outpost with a fireworks display.” Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Batuuan Harvest Festival Since the Black Spire Outpost is off the beaten path in the Outer Rim, it might be surprising that Batuu’s most valuable natural resource is golden lichen or “gold dust.” Oga Garra brings travelers into Oga’s Cantina with gold dust cocktails and specialty dishes. Oga’s Cantina Planets all across the galaxy celebrate their own form of the Harvest Festival (kind of like a space Thanksgiving). But, Batuu’s specific festival sees the outpost “decorated in golden hued banner streamers and locals have been known to enhance their garb with similar colors.” Jet Juice at Oga’s Cantina Life Day Although Life Day started back on the Wookiee planet of Kashyyyk, the annual holiday is celebrated all throughout the galaxy as a day of “peace, harmony and freedom for all beings no matter how different they may appear.” The planet is decorated with festive items and everyone sings songs together to commemorate the Tree of Life’s life-giving and life-affirming powers. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo Wookiees usually wear traditional red robes and exchange gifts around a tree (Christmas 2.0). The celebration also has fireworks, festive music, and treats that we are DESPERATE to have. We’re talking Wookiee-cookiees and Hoth chocolate that everyone will be able to enjoy. Batuu Crowds The alien band from the original Star Wars trilogy, Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes, are also known to give performances during Life Day. (In case Life Day sounds a little bit familiar to you, the holiday has been mentioned on the 1978 “Star Wars Holiday Special” and in the opening episode of The Mandalorian.) Vi Moradi If you want more details on all the holidays that could be coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge soon, you can read the Traveler’s Guide to Batuu! Pick up your copy here!
