Have you ever seen something so odd and brilliant you CAN’T look away? That’s definitely us with this one… .

If you’ve ever seen a monkfish, you KNOW that aliens exist here on Earth. One of the strangest-looking fish we’ve ever seen, the monkfish is a prehistoric-looking seafood delicacy. With that said, if you recently found yourself in Disney Springs, you may have had the opportunity to watch a master chef slice and dice this freakish fish!

Chef Masaharu Morimoto is a world-renowned Japanese Iron Chef known for his interpretations of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine. He also leads Morimoto Asia, a waterfront signature restaurant in Disney Springs that features Pan-Asian cuisine. This past week, Chef Morimoto was in town and gave a demonstration on how to break down a monster-sized monkfish.

Just take a few minutes to watch. It’s OK. We’ll wait.

Monkfish is known as the “poor man’s lobster” and can be served in several different ways. Chef Morimoto demonstrated his proficiency in cooking monkfish with unique dishes that he served to 10 special guests at the sushi bar after his demonstration. Just watch him do this! That’s why he’s the original IRON CHEF, y’all! We also may have been a bit scared by how creepy this fish looks but we can’t be the only ones… .

Morimoto Asia offers The Omakase Experience, an event that entrusts you to the hands of expert chefs as they create a multicourse (typically 5 to 7 courses) “dining experience that features the freshest fish from Japan plus a variety of other specialty ingredients that are reserved for this truly unique meal,” as billed by Morimoto Asia. You may not always see the absolute demolition of nautical monsters, but you’re sure to be given a truly memorable dining experience.

Chef Morimoto was in Disney Springs for his annual Momokase dinner and performed this demonstration on the event’s second night. When in town, Chef Morimoto usually presides over these dinners at the sushi bar. Who knows — next time you find yourself at Morimoto Asia you might just see the Iron Chef himself preparing your meal!
