Regardless of knowing how unhealthy McDonald’s might be, we just can’t stay away.

Something about the deep-fried, salty burgers and fries keeps us going back for more. However, McDonald’s has most notably opted for faster food over fresher, better-quality items. But now, the popular fast-food joint is opting for quality as it works to stay in the running with other hamburger restaurants.

According to the Wall Street Journal, over the past seven years, McDonald’s has been hard at work revamping their hamburger sandwiches, including its signature burger, the Big Mac.

Since the pandemic, McDonald’s has been doing great in terms of capital, as the outbreak pushed people to use fast-food drive-throughs over being close together at sit-down restaurants. But with other burger options so readily available, such as Five Guys, the famous fast-food restaurant is making some changes.

Chris Young, McDonald’s senior director of global menu strategy, commented, “We can do it quick, fast, and safe, but it doesn’t necessarily taste great. So, we want to incorporate quality into where we’re at.” The company is incorporating over 50 changes to its burger menus around the U.S.

These changes include updates to the Big Mac, such as smaller batches of patties being cooked for a more uniform sear, more special sauce, fresher lettuce, and pickle, more melty cheese, and a new buttery brioche bun with more randomly scattered sesame seeds for a “homemade look.”

Some of McDonald’s old practices that made them so popular in the beginning (which were removed for efficiency) are even making a comeback and being revived to bring back quality. Now they are running campaigns marketing “our best burgers ever” and the Hamburgler is returning to advertise these fresher, better burgers.

McDonald’s came in “13th among U.S. chains based on the number of recent customers calling their burgers desirable,” according to the Wall Street Journal, with only 28% of people saying they craved their burgers. This put McDonald’s behind some popular fast-food chains as well as several fast-casual locations like Smashburger and Five Guys. The company hopes this new push for better burgers keeps their company alive as the economy slows and the competition ramps up.

Regardless, we’re excited to try these new, revamped burgers. For more news, keep following DFB!
