We go to Disney World everyday.

Despite how frequently we visit, we still make mistakes. Yep! We still learn more and more about the parks and how to better navigate them each time we go. The parks are ever-changing, and no two days are ever the same. So, it’s safe to say that we’ve made our fair share of mistakes. Today, we’re here to share those mistakes with you so that you don’t make them like we did!

Here are 8 mistakes we made at Disney World in 2023:

1. Got caught at the parks with no rain gear.

No matter what the forecast says, ALWAYS pack rain gear in your park bag. Those Florida thunderstorms come out of nowhere!

There were definitely days in 2023 that we got absolutely drenched because we left the rain gear behind.

2. Thought it was a good idea to try the Powerade Mountain Berry Blast Float with Chocolate Soft-Serve

Back in August, we decided to experiment over at Sunshine Tree Terrace and get a Powerade Mountain Berry Blast Float with Chocolate Soft-Serve instead of our usual Citrus Swirl.

Bad idea.

It was disgusting. We don’t know why we thought it was a good idea, but we do not recommend it.

3. Got lost in EPCOT.

UGHHHH. Yes. We fell victim to Wallcot. Those construction walls are like a maze, and if you’re not careful, it’s totally possible to get lost.

The good news? Those walls are now coming DOWN!

4. Rope dropped Flight of Passage.

We often recommend rope dropping as a way to score a shorter wait on popular Disney World rides as the lines tend to be a bit shorter when the park first opens.

Well, this trick doesn’t work as well as it used to in general, but it ESPECIALLY doesn’t work with Flight of Passage. You see, this attraction is Animal Kingdom’s most popular attraction, so EVERYONE heads there first. In 2023, there were times that we definitely waited LONGER during rope drop at Flight of Passage than any other time.

5. Buying Genie+ for Animal Kingdom

We learned the hard way. Don’t waste your money on Genie+ for Animal Kingdom.

Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom has the fewest attractions out of all the parks, so there’s plenty of time to experience all of them within the day. If anything, buy an Individual Lightning Lane for Flight of Passage for the reasons we mentioned before.

6. Tried to park at Disney World hotels.

Disney World Cast Members have been cracking down on parking at the resorts. Lots of folks try to park here to walk to the parks, which is particularly frowned upon. However, Cast Members have recently not been allowing folks to park at the hotels to get quick service food.

Before this year, we’d never had a problem parking for quick service, but this year we made that mistake a few times.

7. Budgeting the same as 2022.

Each year, Disney World prices go up little by little. Sigh. We always tend to forget to budget just a little bit extra.

We definitely had a hard time adjusting for a bit at the beginning of the year! So, for 2024, just be prepared for some price increases.

8. Waiting in line for food when we could have used mobile order.

It’s 2023. Why are we waiting in long lines when we can just use our PHONES?

Mobile Order

Don’t make the same mistake we did. If a quick service restaurant has mobile order available, use it and save yourself some energy!
