It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for The Walt Disney Company since it was announced that Bob Iger had taken over as CEO once again.

It seemed like an easy choice for Disney to bring Iger back — after all, not many are as perfectly qualified for the role as he is. He originally served as CEO from 2005 to 2020, and his tenure is often remembered positively by both fans and experts. So it’s really no wonder that several industry experts recently named Iger the best CEO in media

According to Bloomberg, Bob Iger is the best CEO in media. About 50 media analysts and experts were polled on various aspects of the industry — from the best streaming service, studio, director, and yes — CEO.

The experts didn’t agree on much per the article, but when asked who the best Chief Executive Officer in the media and entertainment is the answer, more often than not, was Bob Iger. The runners-up named were Reed Hastings (CEO of Netflix) and John Landgraf (Chairman of FX).

But, why was Iger chosen as the best CEO in media? Well, to quote the article directly, “He baaaack.” It seems as though Iger’s first round as the head of Disney was enough to cement him as what it means to be a successful entertainment executive, and to this day analysts are expecting that same level of success during Iger’s second round. Whether or not Iger is able to achieve that success is a different story.

Several studies have shown that “boomerang CEOs” or CEOs who have been brought back a second time, typically to set a company back on track (like in the case of Iger and Disney), have not always been as successful. Additionally, stock prices tend to suffer under boomerang CEOs. Recently, we’ve seen Disney stock prices rise and then even out under Iger, but the CEO has signed on for two years, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
