It seems like it’s been forever since we last saw the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom in service.

The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed since late 2018 due to construction in Tomorrowland on the Tron coaster. Disney has not announced an end date for the closure, and we recently saw that it would remain closed into 2022.

During that time, though, the train has been getting a refurbishment. At a Destination D23 event today, we learned the Number 1 Engine on the train had been completely refurbished.

So when the railroad DOES reopen, it’s going to look spiffier than before! Although we still don’t have a reopening date for the railroad, we’ll continue to keep checking the refurbishment schedule on Disney World’s website to see when that might be. The Tron attraction does not have an opening timeline yet, but hopefully when that project is finished, the railroad can reopen!

The train looks great!

We’ll be at Destination D23 all weekend, so stay tuned for more news and updates!

We do this because it’s important to us as journalists to ensure not only that we give you unbiased opinions, but also that you can trust us to do so since we’re paying our own way. On rare occasions, when we are invited by a company to attend a preview as media, and when we choose to accept that invitation, we will always make you, our readers, aware of that situation. Today, we were invited by Disney to attend Destination D23. Note that when we attend events as media we are 1) Not required to review that event/food on any of our channels, and 2) Not required to review that event/food favorably. You can always count on DFB to give you a 100% unbiased and honest review of any event that we attend, food that we eat, or beverage that we drink. You can see more in our Disclosure Policy.
