Disney4me
“MAY THE 4TH” BE WITH YOU!! We’re celebrating Star Wars Day by taking a look back at some of our favorite Star Wars-themed FOOD items from the days before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in Disneyland and Walt Disney World! Sith Hummus Galaxy’s Edge has given guests on both coasts the chance to immerse themselves in all things Star Wars like never before — and that even applies to the land’s food and drink! We can raise a glass at Oga’s Cantina, sip on Blue or Green Milk, or dine on “Ronto meat.” But today we’re having a little extra fun for “May the 4th” and going through some photos of Star Wars food from the past, and thought you might like to check them out with us. Because “a long time ago,” before Star Wars-themed food in the Disney parks looked like this… Blue and Green Milk at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge … some of it looked like THIS! Chips and Sith from Star Wars Weekends 2015 Though we’re showcasing ten items (or categories of items) today, please note that these are in no particular order as far as the sheer amount of Star Wars joy they have given to Disney food fans over the years. And with that, here we go! Or maybe we should say… “Punch It, Chewie!” Star Wars Character Cupcakes Long before it was Walt Disney’s World’s home to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Hollywood Studios was well known for being home to some incredible cupcakes! Jabba the Hutt Cupcake And Quick Service locations all over the park like Backlot Express and our beloved (though now closed) Starring Rolls have served up several cupcake tributes to Star Wars characters over the years! Characters representing both sides of the Force have been represented, from the Dark Side… Kylo Ren and BB-9E Cupcakes … and the Light! BB-8 Lemon Cupcake With Vanilla Buttercream Chocolate Coconut Kashyyyk German Chocolate Cupcake at Backlot Express Two of the most popular Star Wars cupcakes over the years have included the Darth Vader Peanut Butter Chocolate Cupcake and the chocolate hazelnut Yoda Cupcake. Darth Vader cupcake Yoda cupcake Anyone remember Star Wars Weekends in 2014, when you could pick these guys up at ACKBAR SNACK BAR?? Ackbar Snack Bar during Star Wars Weekends Say it with me… Admiral Ackbar takes a sip “IT’S A TRAP!!” Lightsaber Churros Anyhoo, speaking of sides, guests in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World have been given the chance to choose their side by choosing their CHURRO! CHURRO LIGHTSABERS!!!! Is it a Red or Blue Lightsaber Churro for you? Jedi Mickey Star Wars Dine Okay, this doesn’t fall under the category of “food item,” per se, but how can we not share some of these moments from the limited-time Jedi Mickey Star Wars Dine at Hollywood and Vine, also from Star Wars Weekends 2014?! Jedi Mickey at Star Wars Jedi Mickey Character Dinner Ewok Chip and Dale Selections making up the Hollywood and Vine buffet received a temporary Star Wars makeover. While most of these options were themed in name only, the desserts stole the Star Wars show (taking second place, of course, to our Disney pals dressed in Star Wars costumes)! Star Wars Desserts at Hollywood and Vine Darth Goofy One of the first times we got to try a Blue Milk item, for example, was Aunt Beru’s Blue Milk Ice Cream among the dessert options at Hollywood and Vine for the occasion. Aunt Beru’s Blue Milk Ice Cream Of course, that’s just one example… Blue Milk Shake It’s true! The Milk Stand in Galaxy’s Edge hasn’t been the first place we’ve been able to drink a version of Luke Skywalker’s signature sip. Blue Milk Shake The Blue Milk Shake, for one, was once available at Dockside Diner and the Tune-In Lounge in Hollywood Studios. Bantha Blue Milk French Toast Blue Milk has made its way into other food items, too, like the Bantha Blue Milk French Toast when Disneyland’s Galactic Grill featured a Star Wars-themed menu. Bantha Blue Milk French Toast Now THAT’S quite a way to start the day! The Dark Fried The Dark Fried presented a classic dish — chicken and waffles — with a Star Wars twist! The Dark Fried The chicken came in the form of those classic and tasty Chicken Breast Nuggets you’ll find all over Disney World, complete with some Darth Vader-themed waffles! Darth Vader Waffles with maple syrup This dish made its debut when Backlot Express turned into the Rebel Hangar: A Star Wars Lounge Experience during Star Wars Weekends 2015, and a version was also available at Backlot Express prior to the opening of Galaxy’s Edge. Star Wars Novelty Items True, these next items aren’t technically “food,” but the novelty items over the years have certainly earned their place in Star Wars snacking lore. Millennium Falcon Glow Cube From glow cubes, to Character Steins, to Popcorn Buckets, the Force is STRONG with novelty Star Wars items. Vader Bucket with Popcorn Death Star glow cube Han Solo in Carbonite Popcorn Bucket Stormtrooper Stein And they aren’t all retired! The BB-8 Sipper still has a home in Hollywood Studios, as do more recent finds like the Millennium Falcon Popcorn Bucket, which made its debut in Disneyland! BB-8 Sipper! Millennium Falcon Popcorn Bucket First Order Burger The First Order Burger, which was available at Galactic Grill in Disneyland, was known for its unique black bun. (A Royal Guard Burger with the same bun was also, for a time, available at Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios). First Order Burger from Disneyland’s Galactic Grill And even though it was themed in name only, we also got a kick out of placing an order for a Cheese-3PO at Galactic Grill! Cheese-3PO Burger I wish all cheeseburgers were called Cheese-3POs, now that I think about it. Chips and Sith I don’t know if anything, from a pure presentation perspective, can ever quite top Chips and Sith, which was also a limited-time item at the Rebel Hangar. Sith Hummus What you’re looking at — and what’s LOOKING BACK AT YOU — is a chickpea and lemon hummus topped with a roasted red pepper coulis which provided the base of the face and black sesame dust creating Darth Maul’s signature tattoos. Chips and Sith from Star Wars Weekends 2015 Radish-ringed eyes and Bugle snack horns completed the Sith… I mean, the dish! Genius. (By the way, who’s watching the final episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Disney+ today??) Wookie Cookie Though we’ve been taking a look back, we also want to give a nod to a more recent Star Wars-themed snack on the scene that is found outside of Galaxy’s Edge. Wookiee Cookiee at Hollywood Studios And that’s because the Wookie Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich that recently arrived (in line with the film release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) at Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios is awesome! You can read more about it here. We hope you’ve enjoyed this look back at these Star Wars eats and treats! And we hope you are also excited about all the Star Wars food fun we can look forward to when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is open once again in Hollywood Studios and Disneyland! Ronto Wrap Fuzzy Tauntaun Thermal Detonator drinks and Outpost Mix Remember… “The Force will be with you. Always.” We hope you have a fun Star Wars Day!! Thanks for spending some of it with us!
