This post is part of the DFB #OnTheList series, where we feature eats you’ve GOT to have while you’re at Disney! Let us know what’s on YOUR Disney Food Bucket List @DisneyFoodBlog #OnTheList!

A riddle to ponder: What’s chock full of frozen pineapple-y goodness, available in both Walt Disney World AND Disneyland, and is #OnTheList?

Why, it’s none other than the DOLE WHIP!!

Dole Whip!

It’s pretty much impossible to consider iconic Disney snacks and NOT think of this pineapple soft-serve treat. Of course, HOW you eat it depends on WHERE you buy it, so join us on a tour of both coasts to find out where you can go to knock this one off your Disney Dining Bucket List!

Disneyland’s Tiki Juice Bar

The Tiki Juice Bar is Numero Uno on my list of spots to grab your Dole Whip!

The menu is as simple as it gets: your options are simply Pineapple Dole Whip in a cup, or in Float form (served in a generous pour of Dole Pineapple Juice).

But here’s the key difference from every other Dole Whip location we’re about to visit: if you order a Dole Whip Float at the Tiki Juice Bar, it comes garnished with a cherry and a teeny-tiny “hey, you’re on vacation” drink umbrella!

Mega style points to you, Tiki Juice Bar!

Magic Kingdom’s Aloha Isle

No less synonymous with Dole Whip is Disney World’s Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland.

Aloha Isle

Aloha Isle

Aloha Isle has seen its fair share of change in the past year. Not only did it switch locations with Sunshine Tree Terrace to help make way for the upcoming Jungle Cruise-themed Skipper Canteen, but this spot — which previously served up flavor variations of Dole Whip (orange and vanilla, which could be ordered on their own or swirled with the signature pineapple) — currently offers only Pineapple Dole Whip in cup or Float form like its west coast counterpart.

Still, if you’re after a Dole Whip in Disney World, Aloha Isla remains the number one place to get it.

And the tropical deliciousness of all that pineapple — thankfully — hasn’t changed in the slightest.

Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort

While Dole Whip is not a recent addition to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the Pineapple Lanai — current home to Dole Whip at the Polynesian — has only existed there since late August 2014. (Happy Anniversary, PL!)

It used to be that Captain Cook’s was THE location to enjoy your Dole Whip at the Poly. This Counter Service location is one of the few Resort restaurants open 24 hours… which meant 24-hour access to Dole Whip! Not only that, but the self-serve machine allowed for a build-your-own Dole Whip (which many DFB Readers took to amazing heights!).

Captain Cook’s, however, closed for a refurbishment as part of the major Polynesian Resort refurbishment throughout 2014. When it reopened, it returned without Dole Whip. Though 24-hour access and self-serve options were lost, the opportunity to order Dole Whip Floats were gained with the addition of Pineapple Lanai.

One last fact: Pineapple Lanai is currently the only place where you can enjoy a vanilla swirl with your pineapple soft-serve! This combo adds some extra creaminess to cut the tart of the pineapple, for those who find the all-pineapple a bit overwhelming.

The Polynesian remains the sole Disney World Resort to serve Dole Whip. However, the Pineapple Lanai is not the only place at the Poly you can enjoy it… technically. You see, Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace at the Polynesian serves up a pretty incredible drink for Dole Whip diehards, and it’s called the Spikey Pineapple.

It’s Barbancourt Pango Rhum blended with a sippable version of Dole Whip. And it just might be my current favorite version!

I call it a “vacation in a glass.” :)

Animal Kingdom’s Tamu Tamu Refreshments

Now, for MANY years, Magic Kingdom and the Polynesian were the only spots in Disney World where you could enjoy this signature treat year-round. But all that changed when Pineapple soft-serve (we were assured it was still provided by Dole) showed up on the menu at Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Animal Kingdom’s Africa!

It should be noted this was not the first time Dole Whip appeared in other Disney World parks. “Spiked” Dole Whips became a huge (HUGE!) hit when they made their debut (well, their legal debut) at Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival in 2013. That’s right — at the Pineapple Promenade, guests had the option of topping their Dole Whip for the very first time… with RUM.

Siesta Key Spiced Rum, to be exact. But subsequent Festival offerings have included different “spiked” variations including Orange Dole Whip with Crème de Cacao White at the 2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival, a choice of Myer’s Dark Rum or Parrot Bay Coconut Rum at the 2014 Flower & Garden Festival, and Sammy’s Beach Bar Red Head Macadamia Nut Flavored Rum for 2015… the options continue to grow!

In fact, the “with rum” versions have made such a splash throughout the Festivals, you can enjoy them at Animal Kingdom full time. Dark and Coconut Rum versions are available for choosing.

At this time, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the only other Disney World park where you can find Dole Whip as part of the regular menu.

So, how about you? When and where is the last time YOU enjoyed a Disney Dole Whip? And if you haven’t… well, what are you waiting for?! Make sure you put it #OnTheList for your next trip to Disney World or Disneyland!
