Disney4me Posted February 21, 2021 Report Posted February 21, 2021 As we get closer and closer to the celebration of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, there’s lots of construction taking place. Moat Surrounding Cinderella Castle We’ve got lots of updates to share this week with projects underway in multiple parks and resorts! Let’s check them all out. Magic Kingdom Peter Pan’s Flight This classic Fantasyland attraction has had walls up surrounding its building for over a week now. The prominent brown scrim has grown since last week and is certainly eye-catching (and not in a good way). Peter Pan’s Flight Throughout the week, it just continued to grow. Even More Scrim In the past, we’ve seen Disney use scrim that mimics the actual physical appearance of the building it’s covering but we’ve yet to see that happen with Peter Pan’s Flight. Walls Are Up at This Classic Magic Kingdom Attraction Bonjour Village Gifts We’ve been following the exterior refurbishment of Bonjour Village Gifts in Fantasyland and now an entirely fresh paint job has been revealed! Bonjour Village Gifts The little shop is looking totally spruced up now! Bonjour Village Gifts Refurbishment This weekend, we also got a glimpse of the refreshed floral mural that’s on the side of the building! Mural It says, “Fleuriste Cueillez vos Fleurs,” which roughly translates to, “florist to pick your flowers.” Mural It looks like this refurb is just about done! See Bonjour Village Gifts right after its paint job Cinderella Castle Alright, if you’ve taken any pictures in front of Cinderella Castle this week, they probably looked a little different than you expected. Earlier this week, we noticed hedges surrounding the perimeter of the castle! Cinderella Castle Construction Beyond that, some of the railings around the castle are wrapped in gray scrim. Cinderella Castle Construction Plus, there are some small, covered walls behind the hedges. Cinderella Castle Construction As if that weren’t enough, we also noticed the moat surrounding the castle is being drained! Moat draining About halfway through the week, a decent amount of water remained in the moat. There was still enough so the bottom of the moat wasn’t yet visible. Moat draining As of Saturday, water levels were way lower. Soon enough, we expect this waterway will be totally empty. Cinderella Castle Moat For now, it seems that everything going on in front of the castle is just some standard stage maintenance. We’ll share more updates with you when they become available. This futuristic coaster will be a “thrilling race through the digital frontier.” TRON Construction Last weekend, we noticed some of the construction support beams being removed. TRON Construction We’ll be sure to keep a close eye on this project as we get closer to the anniversary in October! Learn more about the potential delay of TRON here Frontierland and Adventureland In between the Frontierland and Adventureland bridges, a wooden dam is in place in the water. Wooden Bridge We’re not entirely sure what the purpose of this dam is, but it could have something to do with the draining of the Cinderella Castle moat. Wooden dam in water For now, it’s a mystery. Check out more NEW additions to Magic Kingdom EPCOT Future World Each week, the structures in Future World get more and more barren. Here, the roof has entirely been removed. Future World Demolition From a zoomed-out angle, you can get a better idea of how major this demolition is. Future World The EPCOT transformation is coming along! Learn more about the EPCOT Transformation Italy Gelato Kiosk This week, nothing has seemed to change over at Italy’s upcoming gelato kiosk! However, this photo provides a clearer look at some of the stone details that make up the exterior of the building. Italy Gelato Stand Although we don’t know when this new spot will open, we do know that it’ll be serving up a dozen different gelato flavors when it does! And you can definitely count us in for that. Check out the deets about this gelateria here! Harmonious A new construction barge arrived at the World Showcase Lagoon this weekend. This indicates that this project is speedily pressing forward! Construction Barge Currently, there are still only two barges to be used in the show positioned in the lagoon. Go Behind the Scenes of Harmonious HERE Disney Resorts Polynesian Village Resort As Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort undergoes refurbishment to get an updated look inspired by Moana, we’ve visited frequently to check out any new developments (okay, okay, we go there to get Dole Whip too). This week, we noticed new additions near the monorail track. Monorail station You can see the new support beams alongside it. Monorail Construction Later in the week, platforms were being installed around the pillars to create a new structure adjacent to the track. Platforms Installed Next to Monorail Track Over at Kiki Tikis Splash Play Area near the pool, construction is still being done. Splash Play Area This area is expected to remain closed until March 2021. See Cast Members’ New Moana-Inspired Look! Art of Animation Resort Last weekend, we noticed that the iconic storybook pages near the entrance of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort were being REMOVED! Art of Animation Character Pages Fast forward later into this week, and the characters are totally gone (except for Simba on the very end there). Art of Animation Refurbishment Work is also taking place at the Big Blue Pool. You can see the jellyfish statues wrapped in plastic sheets with construction machinery on-site. Big Blue Pool Refurbishment As seen last week, the pool is still entirely drained. Big Blue Pool Drained We’ll continue checking up on ALL the projects going on at this resort! Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is Getting a LITERAL Facelift! Pop Century Resort Over at Pop Century, the pool is also drained. The Hippy Dippy Pool is closed for refurbishment through early March. Hippy Dippy Pool The big ol’ “POP” sign that greets guests at the resort looks like it’s undergoing some maintenance as well. POP sign We’ll keep checking back here for more updates. Gawrsh! Check out the new Cast Member costumes at Pop Century Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser The upcoming Star Wars hotel is one of Disney’s most highly anticipated projects at the moment. It’s been a minute since we’ve heard any updates, so we took a quick drive past the construction site this week. Star Wars Hotel We noticed some new plants and trees had been planted around the building. New Plants At the hotel building itself, nothing looked especially different. We guess new plants are better than no plants. Progress is progress, right? Star Wars Hotel Building We’re eagerly awaiting more details about this hotel! Take a Look INSIDE the Star Wars Hotel General Disney World Construction Walt Disney World Entrance Sign The Walt Disney World Entrance Sign on World Drive is now getting its reimagined look! Construction Begins on Entrance Sign This part of the sign had started to be repainted gray as we drove by this past week. Painting Begins on Sign We’ll provide more updates as this sign’s new look progresses. See what a completed entrance sign looks like! Wow! This week was FILLED with construction updates!
