Num Num Cookies are just SO good, we crave them all the time (and don’t even feel guilty about it one bit). It’s pretty hard to resist that chocolate-y and butter-y goodness when you’re actually in the parks, but we also miss them dearly whenever we’re not in Disney too.

But, we’re about to make your baking game a whole lot stronger since you can make Num Num Cookies right from your own kitchen. Hooked already? We knew you’d be. 😉

Instructions

The first step in making your Num Num Cookies is browning the butter before letting it chill.

Browning Butter

As you’re making sure to brown and not burn the butter, be sure to put your stovetop on medium heat and wait for a little while. The butter should start to foam up before you smell all that nutty aroma that will fill your kitchen.

Browning Butter

Buuut, you’re not done quite yet! The amazing smell only means that you’re close. You’ll want to continue to swirl the browning butter and look for milk solids at the bottom of the dish. Once you see the bottom start to turn the color of graham cracker crumbs, you can pull it off the heat.

The butter will continue to cook in the dish, so you can let it sit for a few more seconds before you pour it into a heat-safe container to cool completely.

Browned Butter

The butter should begin to solidify and look thick, which is the key to making the Num Num Cookies. Before you add the butter to your cookie mixture, be sure to scrape all the tasty bits that settle to the bottom into your cookies for extra flavor.

Cold Butter

Place your sugar, salt, and butter into a bowl and start to beat it for a LONG time. We’re talking around 8 minutes or until you see the mixture begin to get fluffy.

Creaming Sugar and Butter

Give your cookies time to cream properly (this is KEY to amazing cookies) instead of just a mediocre home-made version of Disney’s famous dessert.

Afterward, you’re going to mix in your egg, egg yolk, and vanilla…

…and let them mix together for a bit.

Then, you’ll add your dry ingredients of flour, sugar, brown sugar, and baking soda before letting them mix together once again.

Dry Ingredients

Although the recipe calls for 1 cup of chocolate chips, we think that is WAY too little for the Num Num Cookies packed with chocolate that we’ve had in the parks. Instead, we added a WHOLE BAG of chocolate chips (because, why not?) to our recipe before mixing it all together.

Adding Chocolate Chunks

However, we did set aside a cup of chocolate chunks to add on top of our finished cookies for a bit of extra decoration and that last bit of chocolate to wrap them together.

If you’re like us, then you might take a little taste of the cookie dough on its own (guilty)…

Mixed Dough

…before using an ice cream scoop to place your cookie dough into the wrappers to chill in the fridge. You’ll want to make sure your balls are roughly the size of a golf ball before you smush them a little flat. This is important to do, or your cookies won’t cook evenly in the oven.

The Num Num Cookie wrappers (which you can buy here) are red and white, if you want an authentic Disney Parks look. But, you can add your own little flair with a different design choice on the wrappers instead!

Baking Cups

After you have your cookies ready to go, you’ll want to make sure you absolutely chill them in the fridge! Cover your cookies with saran wrap and leave them for at LEAST an hour, although overnight is even better.

Cookies Ready to Chill!

When you leave your cookies in the fridge for a prolonged period of time, the flour is able to hydrate from the liquid in the eggs and the butter. Plus, the gluten is relaxed to make a softer cookie with a deeper flavor. Since we had kiddos begging for their Num Num Cookies, we let ours chill for 2 hours (but overnight is definitely the best).

Cookies in the Fridge

After we took them out of the fridge, we added the extra chocolate chunks on top before pre-heating the oven to 350° ahead of popping the cookies inside to cook.

If you want to make your Num Num Cookies to be giant like the ones in the parks (the best way), you’re going to want to bake your cookies for a longer period of time. Ours took 18 minutes, but yours may vary! Watch for the cookies to start to puff and get a little browned at the edges.

Baked Num Num Cookies

The point of this is to make sure they have a nice golden brown edge that is sturdy, while the center is still soft and gooey.

We recommend adding a sprinkle of sea salt on top of your Num Num Cookies for that final kick of flavor. While we only had kosher salt, our go-to is maldon salt instead! The big, flaky, and chunky pieces are a great finishing twist on sweets (and blend VERY well with all that chocolate).

And, there you have it — your very own, authentic Num Num Cookies straight from the parks! While the edges have that crispiness that we love…

…you don’t have to sacrifice that soft center that just MAKES the Num Num Cookies as great as they are.
