Disney World is all about the theming, which is one of the reasons guests love it so much. But theming isn’t just reserved for the attractions and hotels — oh no, it also extends to many of the restaurants (and we’re especially excited about the upcoming space-themed Space 220 at EPCOT!).

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the upcoming Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs also has a mysterious backstory!

Now we’ve already seen some signage that hints at the location’s story. We know that the building is reportedly a former Booksellers Shop called “Lindwurm Bookseller, Curious Books & Antiquities!”

But now Gideon’s Bakeshop has revealed a little more about the shop’s backstory. According to Gideon’s, Demolition done during construction of the shop uncovered a small gap in a brick wall. Within that gap, workers discovered a vintage ledger and an old daguerreotype of the shop’s owner, Jonathan Lindwurm.

Mr. Lindwurm was a “purveyor of rare books and antiquities” and sold such things in his shop. Gideon’s promises that when the shop opens, more will be revealed about this mysterious man.

This totally fits in with the feel of the current Gideon’s Bakehouse in Orlando. We’ve spotted a lot of vintage-looking books and objects there, so it’s a safe bet that the shop in Disney Springs will be similar, but in this case, every object will tell a story. And many of those objects will be made by local artists!

Gideon’s has also shared that they do not have an official opening date yet, so we’re still left guessing as to what this enigmatic building holds in store for us, beyond its amazing cookies.

We used to get these incredible cookies from The Polite Pig, but they’re no longer on the menu (insert sad emoji here). So we can’t wait for the official Gideon’s Bakehouse to open in Disney Springs!

We also can’t wait to learn more about the Gideon’s Bakehouse story. We’re sure it will make grabbing some of our favorite cookies even more interesting!

Take a peek at what cookie heaven could look like when Gideon’s Bakehouse opens in Disney Springs!
