Disney4me Posted May 13, 2020 Report Posted May 13, 2020 With the Disney Parks closed around the world, Disney+ has been our go-to while we’ve been staying at home (with lots of popcorn included, of course). AMC Theater in Disney Springs Now that Disney owns 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures, there are a BUNCH of movies coming soon from outside of the Walt Disney Studios, as well as tons of updates to schedules for Disney’s upcoming slate of Marvel, animated, and live-action films. We’re here to give you the ultimate list of when all the MUST-SEE films are coming to theaters in 2021! Maybe you can make a few cocktails inspired by your favorite films and snacks to go with them to prepare for all the new releases!! Before we dive into 2021 releases, let’s take a look at what Disney-owned movies are coming out this year! Mulan Just a little bit longer, friends!! We’ve been waiting to see Mulan’s journey as a part of the Imperial Chinese Army since the movie was moved from March 27th to July 24th of this year. ©Disney We can’t wait to see our favorite warrior bring honor to us all on the big screen! Empty Man On August 7th, you’ll be able to watch the supernatural horror story of The Empty Man. ©20th Century Studios This story follows an ex-cop that makes a discovery that changes his life forever. The One and Only Ivan Based on Katherine Applegate’s book of the same name, The One and Only Ivan will follow the story of a gorilla who befriends a baby elephant when it premieres on August 14th. ©Disney He realizes that he wants life outside his glass cage and dreams about being in the wild where he came from. The Beatles: Get Back We’re ready to “Twist and Shout” when the new The Beatles documentary (ROCK-umentary?) directed by Peter Jackson comes to theaters on September 4th. ©The Beatles It will show studio footage from 1969 and 1970 of the band, including some never before seen clips. The King’s Man Heads up, fans of the Kingsman series! ©20th Century Studios The King’s Man will be the third movie in the series, and this prequel will debut on September 18th. Death on the Nile If you enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express, you’ll love this next movie based on Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile. ©20th Century Studios Will you be able to guess whodunnit on October 9th?? The French Dispatch Wes Anderson’s newest movie will bring together stories from a group of journalists that work for an American-made magazine located in France. ©Searchlight Pictures While the movie was originally supposed to come to theaters on July 24th, it was bumped to October 16th instead. Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Get ready to SING! ©20th Century Studios Everybody’s Talking About Jamie will be a musical spectacular about an English teen who dreams of being a drag queen when it premieres on October 23rd. Black Widow We’ve been ANXIOUSLY waiting for more of Nat’s story since Avengers: Endgame (what is the Budapest story?!). Although the movie was moved from April 24th to November 6th, you’ll be able to learn about Black Widow’s origins in the prequel film! ©Walt Disney Studios This film will officially kick off the fourth chapter of the MCU. We’ve got a few other Marvel flicks moved to next year coming up on the list that will follow Black Widow! Deep Water Based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel, Deep Water will follow a rocky relationship between a husband and a wife on November 13th in theaters. ©20th Century Studios This is a dark tale of a husband and wife that leads to murder! Soul On a MUCH lighter note, ever wondered how your soul is made? The newest Pixar movie will answer the question of what it means to be human when it premieres on November 20th instead of June 19th. ©Walt Disney Studios/Pixar Plus, TINA FEY is in it, you guys!! Free Guy On December 11th, you can go on an interesting adventure as Guy the bank teller finds out that he’s a background character in a video game. ©20th Century Studios Instead of sitting idly by, he decides to confront the game’s inventor and prevent the game from being shut down. West Side Story The hit musical West Side Story has been beloved by many for generations. ©20th Century Studios You can watch the Jets and Sharks battle it out once again when the new adaptation of the show premieres on December 18th. The Last Duel If you love knights and epic battles, then we’ve got a flick for you! The Last Duel featuring King Charles VI and Jean de Carrouges the knight when the movie comes to the big screen on December 25th. ©20th Century Studios The New Mutants Finally, this last flick actually doesn’t HAVE a concrete release date yet — it’s still tentatively listed as 2020. The New Mutants will be a new chapter in the X-Men films (and yep, technically part of the MCU!). The New Mutants ©20th Century Studios The director stated in March that the film is totally completed, so they’re just waiting to announce a good release date! Now, let’s get to the 2022 films, shall we?? Disney While we were at the Walt Disney Studios Panel during D23 last August, we got a sneak peek of SO many new movies (even an early look at Dark Rey from The Rise of Skywalker). While many of the movie schedules of the films being released over the next few years have been moved around, we’re still wayyy excited to see some of live-action, animation, and musical events coming to the big screen. ©Walt Disney Studios Jungle Cruise Although Jungle Cruise has been moved from July 24th, 2020 to July 30th, 2021, the movie based on the hit parks’ attractions will take you on “the adventure of a lifetime” aboard the La Quila. ©Disney Don’t worry — it looks like you will still get to spot the backside of water! Cruella If she doesn’t scare you, the new Cruella film will (or not)! ©Walt Disney Studios The movie will tell the backstory of the famous villain during the 1970s in London with a pop-rock soundtrack when it comes to theaters on May 28th, 2021. Raya and the Last Dragon We’re traveling to the land of Kumandra, inspired by Southeast Asia’s culture, to see some dragons!! Raya and the Last Dragon will follow Raya as she finds a way to reclaim Sisu the dragon’s powers alongside a band of misfits so her home can be protected by dragons again. ©Disney While this Disney Animation film was originally slated for November 25th, 2020, it’s been bumped to March 12th, 2021. Hamilton Although the hit Broadway show Hamilton isn’t a Disney musical, Disney will be putting the pro-shot version of the show with its original cast up on the big screen on October 15th (look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now!!). Avatar Sequel It took over a decade, but soon you can catch the sequel to Avatar making its way to the big screen. Pandora Although the movie was originally supposed to come out winter of this year, it’s been pushed to December 17th, 2021. Marvel Honestly, we are so excited about Avengers Campus coming to Disney California Adventure with foot-long candy bars, all the Marvel characters you can imagine, and AWESOME ride technology. ©Disney It has us even more excited for the rest of Phase Four in the Marvel universe!! Spider-Man 3 Now that Disney and Sony have settled their differences, Spider-Man 3 will be swinging into theaters on November 5th, 2021 instead of its original July 2021 release. Spider-man: Far From Home ©Disney ©Sony We’re happy to get to see another Tom Holland Spider-Man film in the MCU! Eternals Eternals is bringing us an entire group of new superheroes that promises to rock your socks off! ©Walt Disney Studios Although it was originally going to premiere November 6th, 2020, the film will now be debuting on February 12th, 2021. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings On top of all the other Marvel films planned over the next few years, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will showcase a multi-talented hero on May 7th, 2021. ©Disney/Marvel It was previously slated to hit theaters on February 12th, 2021. 20th Century Studios After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, they switched the name around so it was a little more brand-friendly. Ron’s Gone Wrong Along with the other 20th Century Studios films whose schedules have been moved, Ron’s Gone Wrong will be coming to theaters on February 26th, 2021. Bob’s Burgers the Movie Bob’s Burgers the Movie will be coming to theaters on April 9th, 2021 instead of July 17th, 2020. ©Disney We cannot wait to see all of these movies on the big screen! Buuut, if you can’t wait to see all these movies in 2021, you can still at least watch a few flicks like Mulan and Soul coming to theaters this year!
