Even when it’s NOT the most wonderful time of the year, we still love dining at Disneyland’s Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante!

Rancho Del Zocalo

Thanks in large part to its location right next to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland, we love hearing the train whistles as we feast on delicious tacos, burritos, and other Mexican-inspired eats on Rancho del Zocalo’s large outdoor patio!

And today we just had to make our way over to Rancho del Zocalo to taste ALL FOUR of their seasonal offerings! First up — the Caldo de Pollo Soup! This hearty soup of chicken, vegetables, and rice is served with diced onions, fresh cilantro, and a plump little wedge of lime!

Caldo de Pollo Soup

The Caldo de Pollo Soup was a big hit with us — definitely worth getting, and only costs $5.99! Absolutely delicious and packed with flavor while still being very light and tasty! Plus, check out the huge piece of corn in ours!

Next, we tried the seasonal Chicken Mole for $15.49. It’s a HUGE honking plate of food! The entree consists of an entire half of a chicken with seasoned with Mexican spices, topped with mole, sour cream and toasted sesame seeds. A side of tortillas, Mexican rice, and refried beans completes the whole thing — just in case you were still feeling peckish after that half of a chicken you just ingested!

The chicken was crazy moist and cooked perfectly. If you’ve never had mole, it’s a chocolate (but not sweet!) based sauce. The mole sauce was very smooth, flavorful — not overly sweet like some moles can be. There was just a hint of heat to the sauce, but not enough to scare any first-timers trying mole away. Meanwhile, the rice and beans were just standard — not good or bad, just there if you still had room for ’em! We recommend stuffing your chicken into those tortillas and sopping up that yummy sauce!

We also tasted the Champurrado with Churro Bites for $4.99.  It’s a traditional “mexican hot chocolate” and not like its counterpart Abuelita Hot Chocolate. Champurrado is thicker and creamier, typically thickened with masa (corn flour). Flavored with cinnamon, vanilla, and other spices, this one was just okay in our opinion. It’s supposed to be served with churro bites for dipping, but sadly they were out when we stopped by. We’re thinking the combo of churros and the thick drink would have been pretty stellar!

Lastly, we sampled the Pan Dulce Ice Cream Sandwich for $7.99. Presentation-wise, this guy’s a show stopper (and it’s the holiday colored version of Pan Dulce Ice Cream Sandwich Rancho del Zocalo had at Halloween!) The Mexican sweet bread is picture-perfect with its festive red and green shell swirl, stuffed with dulce de leche ice cream and cajeta (Mexican caramel), sprinkled with silver star sugar, garnished with whipped cream, churro streusel, and a white chocolate Sugar Skull decoration.

It looks fantastic, and the flavors didn’t disappoint either! The dulce de Leche ice cream was drenched in that cateja sauce and was delicious. We thought the concha bread was a little dry for our liking, but altogether the flavors really sung.
