Disney4me Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago When it comes to Disney vs. Universal, there are plenty of things to debate! Ride quality, theming, infrastructure, hotels, etc. But when it comes to our taste buds, it’s ALWAYS a comparison of snacks! Pineapple DOLE Whip From iconic sweet treats to unique takes on the classic cheeseburger and more, the battle between these theme park titans definitely extends to snacks! Battle of the Frozen Icons Pineapple DOLE Whip For decades, DOLE Whip has been one of the definitive snacks at Disney World — and really in the themed entertainment space at large. While there have been many, MANY limited and long-term flavor variations over the years, none have had quite the staying power of the traditional pineapple. This tangy, sweet, and oh-so-tropical flavor is served at many locations at Disney World, sometimes cut with vanilla, sometimes on a float, and even on top of a slice of Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. Pineapple Upside-down Cake from Aloha Isle Refreshments Frozen Butterbeer 15 years ago, Universal introduced an iconic flavor of their own. Of the many, MANY game-changing elements introduced with the first Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the biggest snack-wise was Butterbeer. This butterscotch-flavored recreation of the well-known drink from the Potter series became an instant smash and redefined the way themed snacks are created and integrated. Like DOLE Whip, there have been numerous varieties over the years, but Frozen Butterbeer (available at several carts in the various Wizarding World areas) tends to take the crown for many thanks to its frozen, almost slush-like consistency, which cuts the sweetness of the butterscotch flavor to a perfect amount. Frozen Butterbeer The Verdict? Both Pineapple DOLE Whip and Frozen Butterbeer are ideal for those looking to beat the Central Florida heat; however, the former offers a tart option for those who prefer that flavor profile, while the latter will appeal to those with a sweet tooth. Butterbeer Cart Which Crepe Conquers? Pomme EPCOT’s La Creperie de Paris offers a litany of both sweet and savory crepe options, including the Pomme. This crepe is made with Caramelized Apples and Caramel Beurre Salé, and it might be one of our favorite meals in EPCOT! The pieces of apple are so soft, but not mushy. There’s so much apple filling in this crepe, and we couldn’t get enough. The caramel isn’t sickeningly sweet. The crepe itself is really thin and easy to cut through because it’s so soft. We would make a special trip to get this crepe again in the future. Pomme Butterbeer Strikes Back EPCOT isn’t alone when it comes to offering crepes at Orlando’s theme parks, as Universal’s Epic Universe is home to Café L’air De La Sirène inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which offers Butterbeer Crepes (Yes, you did read that right). Officially dubbed the Bièraubeurre Crepe, the dish features two stacked crepes filled with rich butterscotch sauce and topped with a swirl of whipped cream. It is finished with fresh strawberries and a shortbread cookie stamped with “Bièraubeurre.” The filling is very sweet and full of butterscotch flavor. When you get a bite with the whipped cream, crepe, and butterscotch filling, it is very reminiscent of a glass of Butterbeer. Butterbeer Crepe The Verdict? Well, Butterbeer fans are going to go with the Universal offering. However, it’s hard to pick against authentically French crepes. Get ready for a BIG meal! The Great Pretzel Debate BaseLine Taphouse Bavarian Pretzel While there are many pretzel options across Disney World, some can leave a bit to be desired at times (we’re looking at you, Mickey Pretzels). However, there’s an option at Hollywood Studios’ BaseLine Taphouse that rarely, if ever, disappoints. While the Bavarian Pretzel may seem a bit basic, it’s soft, large, and hearty. However, the stars here are the cheese and mustard that come with it! The cheese was, as we LOVE it, incredibly creamy, while the mustard has both heat and a strong, tangy flavor. Whichever direction you go, they elevate the pretzel to a whole new level. Bavarian Pretzel Super Nintendo World Pretzels Given the nature of Epic Universe, it should be no surprise that Universal’s newest park offers a unique take on the pretzel. In Super Nintendo World, out is the traditional shape and in are a variety of Mario-influenced shapes, including stars and flowers. That’s not all, though. The pretzel order comes with cheese. But it’s not your typical plastic cheese; oh no, it’s a jalapeño cheese sauce. This creamy offering has a spicy kick that gives an unexpected flavor jolt without being too overwhelming for picky eaters. Soft Pretzels at Turbo Boost Treats The Verdict? Those looking for a well-made take on the traditional pretzel with traditional sauces will love Disney’s BaseLine Taphouse offering, while those wanting to experiment with different flavors — and different shapes — will likely prefer Universal’s Nintendo offering. Cinnamon Pretzels Cheesy Burger Showdown Classic American Burger Speaking of theme park staples, there are few items more associated with theme parks than a cheeseburger. While Disney World’s offerings can be hit or miss, there are some great finds to be had! If you’re looking for a solid take on the traditional cheeseburger while at Disney World, try the Classic American Burger at Sci-Fi Dine In Theater. While there’s nothing about this burger that rewrites the book — it’s a signature blend of beef with house-made burger sauce, American Cheese, applewood-smoked bacon, shredded lettuce, and marinated heirloom tomato on a Brioche bun — it hits those classic notes REALLY well. We found it juicy, with lots of great flavor. Time for A Classic American Burger! Jerry’s Mega Cheesy Burger However, Universal offers a cheesy burger of their own at the Minion’s Cafe. Jerry’s Mega Cheesy Burger features a 7 oz. all-beef patty, American cheese, crispy bacon, lettuce, and tomato, on a house-made brioche bun, and it’s delish. On our most recent visit, the bun was soft, the meat was well-cooked, the lettuce was super crispy, and the tomatoes were fresh. Oh, and the cheese sauce was fantastic. Plus, you can get some on the side for your Minion tots. Yes, it comes with MINION TOTS! Jerry’s Mega Cheesy Burger The Verdict? Quite bluntly, the winners here are anyone visiting Hollywood Studios or Universal Studios Florida looking for a delicious and oh-so-cheesy take on the classic cheeseburger! A View of the Inside The truth is that, even as these snacks are pitted against each other in their similarities, you really can’t go wrong with any of them if you’re visiting Disney or Universal!
