CEO Bob Iger shared some incredible updates from across Disney Experiences … including an update at Disneyland Resort. View the full article

Plans are in the works for expansions at the Disneyland Resort, and that could potentially include a new Avatar-themed land! Pandora: World of Avatar During the initial reveal, Iger shared, “We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in California.” A land similar to what was created in Disney’s Animal Kingdom park in Disney World could make its way to California — and we’ve officially got our first idea of what it could look like! During the Walt Disney Company Annual Shareholders Meeting on April 3rd, 2024, Disney dropped quite a bit of news on us. Not only did we get a new trailer for Inside Out 2 and a look at the upcoming Moana sequel, but we also got a FIRST LOOK at concept art for a potential Avatar-themed land that could come to Disneyland in the future! ©Disney Check it out below: ©Disney We don’t know about you, but that looks pretty incredible to us. Of course, this is just a “Blue Sky” idea for now, meaning that while Disney has the idea that an Avatar land could work here, no plans have officially been announced — yet. The DisneylandForward project is currently on its way to the desks of the Anaheim City Council, where they will vote on whether or not to approve it. ©Disney A key point of the proposal is that it requests permission for Disney to build more thematic elements, including as many as four structures that measure up to 300 feet tall. “The general intent is to establish a building height hierarchy in which most theme park elements will range from 40 to 250 feet high, with up to four structural thematic elements/icons that may be up to 300 feet in height to establish visual interest and orientation within the theme park,” says the draft document. That could mean new floating islands like in Pandora! ©Disney For now, nothing is official — but we’ll keep an eye out for any announcements! April 3rd marked the 2024 annual shareholders meeting for The Walt Disney Company. Journey of Water At the meeting, we got to hear all about Disney’s plans for the future — whether that be across the parks or within the film studios. One movie that we were looking forward to learning more about is Moana 2, which Disney recently shared would be in theaters THIS November! While we were expecting to see a new trailer or sneak peek today, we were left a TEENSY bit disappointed. We didn’t get a trailer of any sorts, but we did get a glimpse of a clip from the movie! Check it out! Is she in a new outfit?! ©Disney Disney also confirmed that both Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho would return for reprises of their roles. We’d previously heard this from both the celebs, but it was extra reassuring to hear it from Disney. ©Disney So…where’s that trailer, Disney?! We are so excited about this film, and can’t wait to learn more about it. Moana broke records as the most-streamed movie in 2023, and we have a feeling that the second movie will make as big of a splash. (See what we did there?) ©Disney We are incredibly excited to continue keeping watch on the Moana 2 news and making sure you all can stay up-to-date on everything happening with this movie! Disney has been involved in a heated proxy battle with activist investor Nelson Peltz, who was petitioning to get multiple seats on the Company’s Board of Directors. The Walt Disney Company headquarters in California Trian Partners nominated Peltz and former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo to be elected to the Board, but Disney has made it clear they don’t endorse either candidate. It all came to a head during a vote at Disney’s 2024 Annual Shareholders Meeting, and now, we finally know who has come out as the victor in this long, drawn-out battle. Disney has made it clear that the board did NOT endorse the nominations of Nelson Peltz and James Rasulo put forth by Trian Fund Management, L.P. and its affiliates, led by Nelson Peltz and supported by former Disney executive Isaac Perlmutter (collectively, the “Trian Group”). Instead, Disney had nominated twelve of its own candidates to the board, with shareholders being urged to vote one way or another. ©Getty Images Specifically, Disney recommended that shareholders vote for re-election of its current board: Mary T. Barra Safra A. Catz Amy L. Chang D. Jeremy Darroch Carolyn N. Everson Michael B.G. Froman James P. Gorman Robert A. Iger Maria Elena Lagomasino Calvin R. McDonald Mark G. Parker Derica W. Rice According to Disney, these 12 nominees “reflect Disney’s ongoing commitment to a strong Board focused on the long-term performance of the company, strategic growth initiatives, the succession planning process, and increasing shareholder value.” ©Disney Disney and CEO Bob Iger have urged stock owners to vote against Peltz and the Blackwell group using the help of cartoon allies and even Walt Disney’s grandchildren, but the April 3rd vote is what we had been waiting for. ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters During today’s meeting, shareholders voted in support of Disney’s current board and the 12 directors it recommended. You can learn more about those 12 directors HERE. ©Disney Disney announced that the shareholders voted in support of the Disney board’s slate and against Peltz and the Trian group as well as the Blackwell group. They reported that the current board’s recommendations won “by a substantial margin.” CNBC is reporting that the vote was decisive, with Peltz losing a seat on the board by a two-to-one margin, and former Disney Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo, who had joined Peltz’s campaign, lost by a nearly five-to-one margin. Peltz was given three minutes during the meeting webcast to present his case. In his remarks, Peltz said, “It is undeniable that shareholders have suffered over the last few years.” He acknowleged Disney’s stock price has rapidly risen in the first few months of 2024, and appeared to take some credit, saying, “We are proud of the impact we have had in refocusing this Company on value creation and good governance.” ©Disney Shortly before his remarks were cut because he had exceeded his time limit, Peltz said that regardless of the vote’s outcome, “Trian will be watching.” After the voting, Iger said, “With the distracting proxy contest now behind us, we’re eager to focus 100% of our attention to our most important priorities: growth and value creation for our shareholders and creative excellence for our consumers.” ©Disney The results released by the company today are preliminary. Final results of today’s shareholder votes will be filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission within the next four business days. Following the business portion of the meeting, the webcast continued with a pre-recorded video of Bob Iger from Disneyland — updating shareholders on company projects in four key areas of focus for The Walt Disney Company: Re-invigorating creativity Leading streaming businesses to profitability Positioning ESPN for future growth Turbocharging expansion in Disney’s Experiences business Iger said the company is “executing at a rapid pace” and with “tremendous optimism.” He showed an inclusive sneak peek of the new movie Inside Out 2, coming to theaters on June 14th. ©Disney As well as new looks at Moana 2 — coming to theaters in November 2024 — and an exclusive clip from the new season of TV series The Bear. ©Disney Iger reminded the audience of plans to introduce an extremely interactive digital platform for ESPN — one that would combine sports broadcasts with sports betting and e-commerce opportunities. He briefly touched on the partnership with Epic Games, which will bring Disney IP into the Fortnite video game universe. Then Iger turned his attention to discussing Disney’s Parks, and showed concept art for a possible Pandora addition to Disneyland. “We have one Avatar-based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in California,” he said. ©Disney This expansion would be based on the assumption that the Anaheim City Council will approve the DisneylandForward project at a meeting later this month. Disney needs municipal authorities to approve re-zoning and land-use matters in order to carry-out a proposed expansion at its California resort. ©Disney Iger also showed footage of new lands that have opened recently at Disney’s international parks — including World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland (and the upcoming World of Frozen in Disneyland Paris), and Zootopia at Shanghai Disneyland, as well as the new Fantasy Springs expansion opening this summer in Tokyo DisneySea. ©Disney One big announcement we were hoping for — and yeah, we’ll say it, expecting — from today’s meeting was an opening date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World. However, there wasn’t any mention of Disney World projects at all. We are seeing construction walls come down, ride testing with Disney World Cast Members, and we’re getting looks at new characters coming to the ride, which is slated to open this summer. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom — April 2024 We’re expecting an opening date announcement any day now (and perhaps some Cast Member, Disney Vacation Club member, or Annual Passholder previews), so keep following us here at DFB for more! Disney souvenirs may be some of the most popular merchandise in the world. The Emporium in Magic Kingdom There are some awfully cute items you can buy in the parks to have as keepsakes. However, we also know that Disney has sold some pretty unhinged souvenirs as well. You may remember the strange spaghetti Stitch, the creepy alien keychains, gross sticky dinosaur toys, and the bags that stare into our souls, just to name a few. We’ve seen some odd souvenirs here at DFB, but we had to know what the WEIRDEST Disney souvenir our readers have heard of. SPOILER — things get a little odd from here. We asked our readers on Facebook what the weirdest Disney souvenir they own is, and honestly, a lot of the items people shared seemed pretty normal to us (maybe that says more about us). Some were funny, while others were cute and sentimental. But yes, some are weird, and we completely understand how and why they now own that piece of Disney’s “history.” So shall we dive in? Cinderella Castle Weird Drink Memorabilia There were a couple of readers who mentioned that some lounges in Disney World sell some of the strangest souvenirs. Oddly enough, Disney’s Polynesian Resort happens to be the location for the two lounges our readers visited to receive their weird Disney souvenirs. You might have heard of Tambu Lounge and Trader Sam’s Grog Gotto. These are the settings for our first two stories. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Dan told us about the wooden back scratcher that he got from Tambu Lounge. Yes. He shared, “It came with a delicious drink named….wait for it….the Backscratcher.” Yep! The Backscratcher has been on the menu at Tambu Lounge for a long time, but OK, it is very strange to get a back scratcher from a lounge that serves drinks and food! Tambu Lounge Next, Katy mentioned that over at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, she found herself in possession of a giant nautilus sculpture, aka the container her drink came it. We gotta say, we would find this much weirder if we didn’t know it came from Trader Sam’s. This lounge is known for its off-the-wall cups and tiki mugs. A giant nautilus seems rather tame if we’re being honest! Nautilus drink Historical Items from Visits Past These next few we have a hard time calling “weird” because we may or may not have found similar items lying around our homes. Keeping hotel keys, park tickets, and fastpasses from trips long ago are some of the cheapest and easiest souvenirs to collect! Plus, if you have old enough items, they may become historical artifacts one day. If you have a Fastpass ticket lying around, you might want to frame that thing. Paper FastPass tickets were used all around the world, including at Tokyo Disney Resort Another reader, Tammy, shared that she still has a large stuffed animal souvenir from 1995! She said she got a Goofy toy that is FIVE feet tall! First, we’re impressed you kept a stuffed animal for so long. Second, that is adorable. A five-foot-tall Goofy sounds like the best friend ever. Hi, Goofy! Locks of Hair? Yep, you read that right. One of our readers shared that she has a lock of hair tucked away as a souvenir from Disney World. But don’t worry, she didn’t cut any of Chewbacca’s hair. Nope, this is a much cuter story. Liz shared that she has “locks of hair mixed with glitter from [her] son’s first haircut at Harmony Barber Shop.” We’re not crying, you’re crying. Harmony Barber Shop A first haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom is one of the cutest ways to commemorate that special event! We are pro-saving that lock of hair (but please, do NOT cut any of the character’s hair). Debt…Lots and Lots of Debt We had to end with a funny, yet accurate “souvenir” you might find back at home with you. Michael shared a bit of sad truth when he added, “a mountain of Credit Card Debt” to our Facebook post. We hope that your trip doesn’t cost you a hole of debt you can’t climb out of. It’s finally TIME! Disney+ Disney has finally released one of its newest movies on its streaming service, Disney+, and we know exactly what every Disney adult is going to be watching tonight! Disney’s new film Wish is officially on Disney+! It was announced a few weeks ago that the film would debut today, April 3rd. ©Disney Wish was released in theaters in 2023 to honor Disney’s 100th anniversary. The movie is full of Easter eggs and nods to other Disney films. ©Disney Wish has original music and a brave heroine, Asha. Asha lives in the kingdom of Rosas, where she makes a wish and then becomes friends with a star. She, the star, and her other friends must take on the evil but charismatic ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico. ©Disney We’ve seen lots of Wish-themed merchandise in Disney World, and Disney even added Asha as a character meet-and-greet in EPCOT (located towards the entrance of World Showcase, just in front of the Disney Traders gift shop). Asha from the new movie ‘Wish’ The new topiary at the entrance of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is also Wish-themed this year, and the little Star character actually glows at night! A long rumored change is FINALLY coming to an opening day Disneyland attraction. Autopia Autopia opened with Disneyland on July 17, 1955 and the attraction – in one form or another – has been part of the park since then. Thanks to it’s sleek, Bob Gurr-designed, ride vehicles and giving many children their first experience “behind the wheel” of a car, Autopia has become a popular right of passage for millions over the last near-70 years. However, one issue has plagued the attraction until now. As first revealed to the Los Angeles Times, Disney is planning on replacing the pure gasoline engines that have powered Autopia’s cars since its inception with new electric or hybrid power sources. Disneyland’s Autopia Disney Spokesperson Jessica Good told the Times, “Since opening with Disneyland park in 1955, Autopia has remained a guest-favorite most popular with young kids experiencing driving for the first time. As the industry moves toward alternative fuel sources, we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction and are evaluating technology that will enable us to convert from gas engines in the next few years.” Many Disney fans have long waned the company to transition the Autopia vehicles to an electric power source, both for environmentalist reasons, as well as improving the park environment by eliminating the smells and sounds associated with the engines. Gurr himself is in favor of the decision, telling the paper that he looks forward to a version of Autopia where riders “don’t smell the fumes, don’t hear that racket of the little motor going putt-putt-putt.” Bob Gurr c/o @bobgurrofficial on Instagram No timetable for the Autopia changeover has been given as of now, and it’s left us wondering what this might mean for Disney World’s similar attraction — the Tomorrowland Speedway. As of now, nothing has been announced about swapping those gas vehicles to electric ones, but we’ll be on the lookout for updates. Stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney news! Someone please tell me I’m not the only one whose FYP has suddenly been overtaken by a carry-on suitcase. It’s everywhere. I clicked on ONE link and now I cannot escape it. ©Carry-On Closet To be fair, I clicked the link because the suitcase looks pretty cool. It has this built-in storage thing that means you can unpack in SECONDS. As someone who hates packing and unpacking, I was intrigued. But then I saw the price tag and I was suddenly less intrigued and more scared. But when I looked at the suitcase more carefully, I thought “hey, I think I could make something similar.” So I went to Amazon and — sure enough — you can create essentially the same thing for less than a QUARTER of the price. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. I’ve got to start this post off with a disclaimer: I have a problem, and it’s called “I see something and think I could definitely make it when in fact I have no skills to back that up.” There’s that beautiful but expensive antique furniture piece I saw one time and thought “Yep, I could totally just make that.” Do I have any furniture-building or woodworking skills? Nope. But how hard can it be? (Don’t fall into my trap — I’m 100% positive that high-quality furniture building is in fact very difficult. Especially when I have a tough enough time with Ikea bookshelves.) All that to say that, when I saw the fancy Carry-On Closet Suitcase that keeps popping up on my TikTok and Instagram feeds, it wasn’t really a new thing that I had the audacity to believe I could DIY the same thing for way cheaper. But what makes me think this time is DIFFERENT is that it really doesn’t take a ton of specialist skills for the knock-off version that I’ve created in my head — you just need a couple of different parts! Suitcases Now, the Carry-On Closet Suitcase actually is really cool. It’s got a built-in shelving system (patented, of course) that you can pack up and then literally just pull out and hang on the handle and voila — you have a travel closet. The version we’re making today is SIMILAR but definitely not quite the same. But for less than a quarter of the price, it’s pretty dang close. All of the items you need for this DIY come from Amazon! Most are eligible for Amazon Prime, which means Prime members get faster, free shipping. Don’t have Prime? Just click the link below to start a free trial. First, you’ll need a carry-on suitcase. If you have one of these already, just use that. And now this hack is even CHEAPER for you! Way to go! If you need a new one, this carry-on on Amazon is the top pick and has 4.3 stars with over 30,000 reviews. Get the Traveler’s Club Carry-On Suitcase ©Amazon This suitcase is simple and straightforward, wich is perfect for what we need. It does have a divider between the two sections of the suitcase, and there are straps to secure your belongings as well. ©Amazon It gets lots of good reviews that claim the bag is lightweight, fits in an airplane overhead bin, and is pretty durable. Shop this carry-on here! Next, you’ll need to create the closet inside your carry-on! We found these portable hanging shelves on Amazon that look like they’d be perfect. Get the Portable Hanging Shelves ©Amazon You can hang up these shelves and pack them with everything you’ll need, then compress them down and pop them right into your carry-on! Once you arrive at your destination, just pull them out and hang them up in your hotel. ©Amazon The shelves have three different compartments, including a zipper compartment. Shop the portable hanging shelves here! And there you have it! Your very own $65 carry-on closet. If you want an even CHEAPER option, you can go for packing cubes instead of the hanging shelves. Get This Set of 8 Packing Cubes ©Amazon These packing cubes can keep your bag organized and neat, but they’re not quite as convenient as the hanging shelves that you literally just have to remove and hang up. However, at just $17 for eight packing cubes, it’s hard to pass them up! Shop the packing cube set here! So what do you think? My hacked version is definitely not quite as fancy as that $300 suitcase, but it does a similar job, and $65 is much closer to my budget! Stay tuned to DFB for more travel hacks and tips! The Walt Disney Company has been involved in a heated proxy battle with activist investor Nelson Peltz, who is petitioning to get multiple seats on the Company’s Board of Directors. Trian Partners nominated Peltz and former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo to be elected to the Board, but Disney has made it clear they don’t endorse either candidate. The Walt Disney Company headquarters in California Both Disney and CEO Bob Iger have urged shareholders to vote against Peltz and Rasulo, with some help from cartoon allies and Walt Disney’s own grandchildren. It all comes to a head at the Annual Shareholders Meeting, which is why tomorrow is such a big day for the Walt Disney Company. The Walt Disney Company Annual Shareholders Meeting is taking place on April 3rd, and it could very well change the future of the company. This is when shareholders of the Walt Disney Company will vote on Nelson Peltz’s (and others’) attempt to gain seats on the company’s Board of Directors. The Walt Disney Company Trian nominated Peltz and former Disney CFO James Rasulo to the Walt Disney Company board back in December. They later released a statement that said the group “Believes the Disney Board’s lack of focus, alignment, and accountability has resulted in chronic underperformance at one of the world’s most iconic companies.” ©Getty Images Disney has previously stated that “the Board does NOT endorse the nominations of Nelson Peltz and James Rasulo put forth by Trian Fund Management, L.P. and its affiliates, led by Nelson Peltz and supported by former Disney executive Isaac Perlmutter (collectively, the “Trian Group”).” The notice went on to say, “The Board recommends that shareholders do not vote for the Trian Group nominees and that they reject a related proposal from the Trian Group to amend the Company Bylaws.” Disney also made it clear that the Board “does not endorse the nominations of Craig Hatkoff, Jessica Schell and Leah Solivan put forth for election as directors by Blackwells Onshore I LLC, Blackwells Capital LLC and Jason Aintabi (collectively, the “Blackwells Group”).” ©Trian Partners Disney has put forth a list of 12 nominees for the board. Here are the people that Disney endorses: Mary T. Barra — Chair and Chief Executive Officer of General Motors Co. Safra A. Catz — Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Corp. and its former President Amy L. Chang — former senior executive at Cisco Systems, Inc. and Google and a current director of Procter & Gamble Co. D. The latest Disneynature film coming to Disney+ has us ready to ROAR with excitement. ©Walt Disney Studios Disney has long been associated with documentary filmmaking about nature, going back to the Academy Award-winning True Life Adventures series that Walt Disney himself spearheaded from the late 1940s through the 1960s. The company founded the Disneynature division in 2008, and has released dozens of high quality, expertly filmed nature documentaries under that umbrella since, most of them on or near Earth Day, April 22nd. The latest Disneynature film, Tiger, is scheduled for release through Disney+ on Earth Day 2024 to commemorate Disneynature’s 15th anniversary. Mark your calendars for April 22nd! As with most of Disneynature’s filmography, Tiger has a celebrity narrator: Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The actress and producer gushed about her excitement for the opportunity in the film’s official press announcement, saying, “It’s just wonderful to be able to be a part of something so special and to tell the story of this magnificent animal that comes from my country—I was very honored… I have always loved tigers and I feel a kinship with the female tiger—I feel very protective of my family. Ambar’s journey is something I think every mom would really relate to.” Disney The officially released trailer for Disney’s Tiger, as seen above, has us swooning over these magnificent creatures, and we can’t wait to watch the film in full on Earth Day. Disney giveth, and Disney taketh away. Cinderella Castle We know they say if you love something, you should let it go and if it comes back — it’s yours (or at least that’s what Christina Aguilera taught me.) But, in this particular instance, we’re miffed because we didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye. Sure, Disney is known for having limited-time snacks, but what happens when something goes missing without a trace? Unfortunately, now we know. We come to you today filled with great sadness because a travesty has been committed in Disney World. Just on the heels of Saucegate 2024, it’s become clear that we’ve had to abruptly say goodbye to a DFB favorite snack. Yes, it’s true — the Loaded Burnt Ends Fries have been removed from the menu at Regal Eagle Smokehouse in EPCOT. Loaded Fries We noticed they had gone missing from the online menu, so we headed to the restaurant to investigate. A Cast Member confirmed that they were gone, but that it was possible they could come back in the future. Apparently, these delicious fries came about when Disney needed a way to use up the extra burnt ends from the brisket (which they also use in the baked beans!) But, now that the team at Regal Eagle has honed in on the amount of brisket they need to prepare each day, they’ve gotten to the point where they’re no longer really producing excess burnt ends — meaning there aren’t enough for the fries. Yum As much as we love and respect this quest for no food waste and more sustainability, we are devastated that our beloved Loaded Burnt Ends Fries got nixed in the process. Where are we supposed to get Seasoned French Fries with Burnt Ends, Macaroni & Cheese, and Beer-battered Onion Rings in Disney World now?! Loaded Burnt Ends Fries We’ll be on the hunt for any potential updates in this wretched saga and will let you know if we find anything out. It’s clear that The Walt Disney Company sees its cruise line as an area of growth over the next decade. ©Disney The sixth ship in Disney’s fleet — the Disney Treasure — sets sail in December 2024, and two more ships — the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure will start cruising in 2025. Disney has said these ships will double its worldwide capacity. And the cruise industry in general is growing at a similar clip. Sixty new cruise ships will enter service in the 5-year period between 2023 and 2028, increasing capacity by 43%, according to Cruise Industry News. With more capacity and more competition from newer ships on other cruise lines, you may be wondering if Disney will be able to compete. ©Disney | Disney Destiny Concept Art The cruise industry needs to convince millions of people to take their first cruise over the next couple of years, and they will need to look to younger generations to do it — including Gen Z. Cruise lines have been adding options to try to lure young adult travelers. Sun Princess and several other new Princess ships have added dedicated Pickleball courts. Virgin Voyages offers free wifi for all passengers. ©Virgin Voyages According to a study by StudentUniverse, there are three big travel trends that might hurt Disney Cruise Line’s bottom line as it tries to market to this generation of young adults. Let’s take a look at them here! Sustainable Travel More than 50% of those surveyed said that they want to book travel that is eco-friendly. In the past, that may not have included a cruise, because large cruise liners have had a bad reputation for generating carbon emissions, plastic waste, and more. But the cruise industry has been making changes to its practices both big and small to boost sustainable operations on the ships, and Disney is no exception. With the introduction of the Disney Wish, DCL joined other cruise lines including Carnival, Royal Caribbean, MSC and Princess in building ships powered by Liquified Natural Gas rather than diesel or marine fuel. Disney Wish The new fuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions and eliminates harmful sulfur oxide emissions. Disney also cites other environmental considerations — including demand-based heating and cooling systems, recycling of condensation to use in its laundry facilities, LED lighting, and passenger-facing changes such as a switch to washable dinnerware over disposable options and installing more water stations to encourage water bottle re-use. The new Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny are also being built to use LNG as fuel. Disney Cruise Line has pledge to have net-zero emissions — meaning carbon emissions will be counterbalanced by carbon removal — by 2030. Less Alcohol Consumption Gen Z young adults of drinking age are drinking less than their older counterparts. The survey results showed they drink 20% less than Millenials, and prefer visiting cultural landmarks and exploring the landscape over clubbing on vacation. A tropical drink at Castaway Cay It’s no secret that Disney — and all cruise lines — make much of their profit from selling alcohol on their ships. Estimates for daily spending on a cruise ship range from $200 to $500 per person, per day. And it’s safe to assume that a hefty percentage of that spending in on alcohol. So, if Gen Z cruise passengers (who have reached drinking age) are drinking less than their older counterparts, will that hurt Disney’s bottom line? It certainly could, but Gen Z is also enjoying more mocktails and non-alcoholic spirits. A study by advertising tech firm NCS showed that 37% of Gen Z consumers had increased their consumption of mocktails in 2023. DCL’s main dining menus include non-alcoholic specialty drinks for an extra fee, and the “drink of the day” offerings at bars around the ship also include a non-alcoholic option. “Different” Destinations Twenty percent of the StudentUniverse survey respondents said they had turned to an AI Chatbot or recommendations from Tik Tok in search of “off the beaten path” destinations. This segment of travelers don’t want to go to the “usual” places. That could hurt DCL and other cruise lines in their quest to book Gen Z on traditional Caribbean itineraries, as well as in well-trod Alaskan and European ports. Castaway Cay However, Disney’s expansion to Australian itineraries, as well as the new home port of Singapore for the upcoming Disney Adventure ship, could offer more exotic locales that some Gen Z travelers are seeking. DCL could also capture the desire for “off-the-beaten-path” adventure with creative excursions to exclusive/hidden spots in their usual ports. There are indications that the average age for a cruiser is getting younger — it was age 46 in 2024, according to trade group CLIA. These are some changes — more sustainability efforts, more mocktails, and more exotic itineraries — that we expect to see at Disney Cruise Line as an effort to lure newly minted Gen Z adults to cruising as it introduces these new ships. Goofy at Castaway Cay One thing is for sure: DCL is focused on big expansion right now, and that will need to include younger generations. At Disney’s latest quarterly earning call, CEO Bob Iger called the company’s cruise business “extremely positive,” and said the company was looking “expansively” at more possible expansion beyond the three ships already on order. If there isn’t some kind of seasonal treat being offered in Disney World during your vacation, I’ll eat my pants. Tree of Life Okay, maybe I won’t do that, but it seems like there’s ALWAYS a slew of seasonal snacks to try out in the parks and resorts and Disney Springs! Heading into April, Disney is celebrating Earth Month and there are a few limited-time offerings that you might want to check out. We picked up two of them and I’m here to give you the full review! Before I dive into the reviews, I just want to publicly apologize for destroying such beautiful pieces of art. Disney’s really going above and beyond with the decoration on these treats, y’all! The Plant in the Boot Petit Cake Returning to Amorette’s Patisserie this year is The Plant in the Boot Petit Cake, inspired by Wall-E! This cute lil cake is available in Disney Springs for $22. Plant in the Boot Cake It’s made with layers of carrot cake, cream cheese mousse, and pineapple jam, decorated with a tiny plant-filled boot on top and fondant. How cute! The cake is incredibly soft and sweet, and the cream cheese pairs with it perfectly. The pineapple jam gets a little lost in the frosting and the fondant decor can kind of overwhelm the other flavors, but once you get down to the cake it’s quite delicious and balanced. Carrot cake fans will really love this! Inside the cake These cakes are pretty pricey, so you might not want to spend the extra dough to get one, but it would be a nice. snack to split with someone else. Would you spend $22 to buy a mini cake? I’m interested to know! Raindrop Tart Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you can visit The Mara for a brand-new Earth Month snack — the Raindrop Tart. It’s available for $6.49. Raindrop Tart The Raindrop Tart is made with chocolate cake, pistachio crumb, passion fruit gel, vanilla cheesecake, and white chocolate mousse. It has a really stunning look with the blue raindrop dome! It’s so pretty! I thought the cheesecake flavor was pretty strong in the mousse and the texture was deliciously creamy. The chocolate cake was also very soft! However, I had a hard time finding the pistachio or passion fruit flavors amongst the chocolate and cream cheese. Some of the flavors get lost. The tart shell was also pretty tough to eat and the blue gel decor made this treat pretty sugary. Ultimately, it’s really beautiful, and cheesecake fanatics would probably like it, but I don’t think it’s going to land at the very top of our recommended snack list for Animal Kingdom Lodge. (We’re still die-hard Zebra Dome fans!) Inside the raindrop So there you go — the two treats we tried for Earth Month! We’ll keep you in the loop with more celebrations coming up soon, including any special offerings for Earth Day, which is also Animal Kingdom’s birthday! We talk about different foods around Magic Kingdom a lot, and most of the time they’re newer creations like the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread that debuted last fall. So where do you opt to eat when it’s creeping close to lunchtime, your kids are getting antsy, and you’re not looking to overspend on food? Jackpot! Before you decide to throw in the towel (and the big bucks) for a buffet that seems like a one-size-fits-all solution, we’ve got another option for you to consider. You can certainly work up quite a hearty appetite while visiting Magic Kingdom riding rides, meeting characters, and seeing the parade. So when you start to hear your tummy grumble at you (or worse your kids are almost in full meltdown if they don’t get some food stat), where’s your safest bet for everyone to eat? Cinderella Castle We set out to answer this very question on a recent trip out to Magic Kingdom, and ironically enough our answer came to us in Fantasyland when we stopped by to eat lunch at Pinocchio Village Haus. Atmosphere This restaurant is made up to look like a little indoor village and can be a great place to take a breather from your day’s adventures. When you step inside, you’ll be treated to beautiful artwork commemorating the animated classic Disney film, Pinocchio. Pinocchio Village Haus When you walk up to the restaurant, you’ll find outdoor tables (several of which will have umbrellas for shade)… Outdoor seating … lots of seating indoors as you make your way through the entryway… Seating inside … and all of the condiments, napkins, and utensils are self-service. Self-serve napkins, utensils, and condiments This place can get packed with people, so a pro tip if you want to dine inside is to look up for extra seating in the balcony areas. You’ll also find phrases from the movie, character murals, and subtle touches that look like they came straight out of Geppetto’s shop. Art on the walls When you’re ready to place your order, you can either wait in line to order at the counter while viewing the menu above you (sometimes they have a menu to hand you while you’re waiting in line, too)… Pinocchio … or place a mobile order through the app. For this visit, we opted to do that because we thought we’d get our food faster this way. Menu This restaurant is only open for lunch and dinner, so the menu here isn’t terribly extensive as they specialize in an array of flatbread pizzas for entrees… Order menu … and a few extra sides like french fries, breadsticks, tomato basil soup, and cutie oranges to go along with your meal. The beverage options are fountain drinks, and a slushy option, along with a few others like tea, coffee, and milk for the kids. After a few minutes of waiting, our order was ready and we were off to find a place to sit and eat! Drinks For this meal, we opted for the Blue Raspberry Slushy, which cost us $5.99. It’s made just like it sounds with a blue raspberry flavor. Blue Raspberry Slushy We found it to be more sweet than it was tart which really surprised us. This one really reminded us of the blue raspberry flavoring you would find in a shaved ice treat (which we think your kiddos will love)! You can eat it like this too! It was definitely appreciated on a hotter spring day, and we’re glad that we opted to eat indoors. Otherwise, this would have melted faster had we been outside in the heat. Eats Stay with us, because we ordered quite a bit of food this round. We opted for the classic Pepperoni Flatbread, All-Meat Flatbread, our friend the Blue Raspberry Slushy you already met, a side of Tomato Basil Soup, and a single dessert in the Key Lime Pie Tart. Full Spread Of course, as always we’re going to take this meal on piece by piece so let’s start things off with a classic. The ever-popular Pepperoni Flatbread cost us $12.79. It’s made of flatbread pizza topped with pepperoni, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Pepperoni Flatbread It smells divine when it’s put on your tray, and you can barely see any pockets of grease sitting on top of it. The flatbread comes pre-scored into sections for you — making it easy to tear away pieces when you’re ready for them. This “feature” and its larger size also make it a popular sharable option (especially when you plan to pair it with a side like a soup or salad). A slice of pepperoni When you bite into the slice, it’s a true flatbread pizza that will have minimal sauce, great cheesy mozzarella flavor at the top, and the pepperoni is very mild (there’s also a kid’s meal version of pepperoni so that could be why they opt for a less spicy pepperoni flavor). Is it pretty basic? Sure. But it’s a decent option. We turned our attention toward the All-Meat Flatbread next. This one is a flatbread pizza topped with sausage, pepperoni, ham, bacon, tomato sauce and mozzarella for $12.79. All-meat flatbread The portion size here and the pre-scoring of the slices are all the same as the Pepperoni Flatbread however, we would argue here that for the price, it’s the better “value” of pizza — you’re getting way more toppings and flavors to really appeal to your rumbly tummy in this one. A slice of all-meat All of the meats work together harmoniously — nothing is overpowering. While you can pick out each of the individual flavors of sausage and bacon more easily, you may find yourself searching for more of the salty ham tidbits. While that could be a bother to you if the ham is your favorite, we certainly wouldn’t call that a dealbreaker. This is arguably one of the most flavor-packed menu items offered here and didn’t disappoint us. Then it was time to try out our side of Tomato Basil Soup, which cost us $3.99. It’s served in a paper cup, and we were pleased with the amount that was scooped into it — it was almost full. Tomato Basil Soup This side was the highlight of our meal. Usually, when we think of tomato soup we think of something with an acidic taste and thin consistency, but this soup mimicked more of a bisque. It’s also got some chunks of cooked tomatoes in it and has more of a blended consistency rather than just a straight can of soup feel. So creamy This one was so tasty! While you’ll certainly taste the tomato at the forefront, it’s the subtle hints of basil throughout that will keep you scooping. We would highly recommend using it as a dip with the breadsticks if you’re feeling adventurous! We hope you saved room for dessert because we certainly had to! For this meal, we tried out the Key Lime Pie Tart, which cost us $5.49. It’s a simple key lime tart with sweet whipped cream on top. Key Lime Pie Tart This was so creamy and bright! When you take a bite of this tart your mouth will pucker a little with the flavor because it is very commanding. Inside the treat It’s definitely more on the sour side of the key lime pie than on the sweet, but the sweet whipped cream adds some sweetness to balance the tart. Just a bite! The whipped cream is soft and sweet and adds a bit of creamy texture to the decadent tart. Overall, we were big fans of this one, but if you are looking for a very sweet dessert, this isn’t it. Overall Overall we had a decent meal here that will serve you well when you’re in a time crunch and looking for something that will satisfy most everyone. Our table While the menu here isn’t terribly extensive, it cuts down on being overwhelmed with choices when deciding on what you’d like to order, and the quality of the food here is more than decent (you’ll just want to eat your meal while it’s warm and not wait too long). Nosh Or Not? Step right into Pinocchio Village Haus if… You’re looking for something quick that will satisfy all. While the menu here isn’t terribly lengthy, we find it hard to turn down a decent flatbread pizza, especially at Disney World. You’re looking for somewhere to dine indoors. Our only caveat here though is this place tends to get busy and stay that way, so if you want to dine inside, grab your food in off-peak times for the best chance at dining in. You’re looking for something that will fill your tummy up for a while. Yep, we’re back at pizza but the adult portions are decent size and they have a few other extras adults will enjoy like breadsticks and the tomato basil soup. We’d suggest finding another place to grub if… You’re just not that into pizza. If you’re not a big pizza fan (especially flatbread style), you’ll probably have a hard time making a whole meal here unless you’re good with salad, soup, and breadsticks. You’re looking for a place to eat with characters. While this restaurant is in Fantasyland and the inside is themed with Pinocchio characters on the walls, there aren’t any characters that will come by the tables and visit you here. You prefer to eat somewhere quieter and less busy. This one is a bit tricky, because really you could be busy in most places you’re eating at Magic Kingdom depending on the time. BUT this place is usually packed with people looking to grab a bite to eat and stays that way most of the day. If you’re not a fan of hunting down a seat after you’ve grabbed your food from the counter, you’ll probably want to try a table service meal instead. Recently, Disney announced the opening date for one of the FINAL parts of the EPCOT Transformation. Mark your calendars! CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza will open on June 10th, 2024 in EPCOT! Mickey & Friends signage installed — March 2024 We’ve been keeping up with the latest updates and have seen quite a few recently! The Mickey & Friends meet and greet sign was installed and we even caught Disney testing some of the lighting outside. It looks like progress is ramping up because another crucial detail has been added ahead of the opening! Disney must have added the sign overnight, because it was just yesterday that we spotted the new light features on the exterior of the building being tested and the CommuniCore Hall sign was nowhere in sight. But, here it is in all its glory! Just one more sign that this new festival hub is one step closer to opening. The NEW sign is up! In addition to the CommuniCore Hall sign, we also spotted a new bathroom sign for this area! More bathrooms in EPCOT is always a good thing, so we’re excited to see this sign pop up over here too. Bathroom sign peeking out! We recently noticed new murals being added to the walls of the Hall, as well as the Mickey & Friends sign being added and new lights being tested, too!
