Are you planning to ring in the season at Disney Jollywood Nights in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? For the very first time, we invite you to take the Tinseltown magic of this special holiday celebration home with a full merchandise collection including apparel, accessories, home décor, collectibles, and a pin — all decorated with festive artwork featuring our favorite jolly gingerbread man, Ollie! Some of you may be wondering: who is Ollie? To answer this question, I sat down with Justin Dring, Concept Artist for Disney Live Entertainment, and the rest of the creative team that brought Ollie to life. Here’s what I learned about Ollie’s origins: Last year, this adorable new holiday character was introduced at Disney Jollywood Nights. He’s a talented and energetic gingerbread man who brings his own festive cheer to this glamorous event, inspired by the golden age and aspirations of Tinseltown. The Disney Live Entertainment creative team behind Ollie wanted to capture the classic aesthetic of mid-century holiday cards and 1940s-1950s advertisement illustration. This vintage style, with its timeless elegance and vibrant charm, perfectly complements the glitzy theme of the event. The team also drew inspiration for Ollie from their personal holiday traditions, adding a layer of warmth and authenticity to the project. For Justin, holidays revolve around baking sweets and gingerbread cookies using his grandmother’s cherished recipes. This heartwarming tradition and the familial spirit of the holidays is exactly the sentiment the team sought to infuse into the event. Every aspect of Ollie’s design, from the optimistic twinkle in his eyes to his stylish holiday attire and star-quality hair, was meticulously crafted to encapsulate the whimsy and cheer of the holiday season while complementing the artistic flair of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But Ollie’s story is far from over. As his journey continues to unfold, we invite our guests and fans to stay tuned for more sweet updates and to indulge in the magic of Ollie at Disney Jollywood Nights. Speaking of sweet updates: who wants to see all the new holly jolly Ollie items? The Spirit Jersey has a fun, all-over pattern featuring Ollie in his Jollywood best. A “Happy Ollie Days 2024” (we do love a good pun here!) retro graphic can be found on the front of the Spirit Jersey, while the event logo is displayed across the back. If you’d prefer to take home a tee, be sure to grab this graphic tee featuring Ollie on a Sunset Boulevard stroll. These items go perfectly with the event-exclusive Lug bag, great for holding all your park party essentials! The ear headband features Ollie as plush, embroidered ears with satin bow ties. The event marquee is on the top of the headband with “2024” written down the side to mark the year that you visited our holiday party. The mug has a retro-inspired, diner silhouette with images of Ollie and the event logo. This is the perfect mug for a cup of hot cocoa paired with your Jollywood Nights marshmallows, courtesy of Wondermade, which will be provided upon exit and are included in your ticket. If you’re looking to bring a little bit of holiday cheer to your own Christmas tree, this picture-perfect ornament is the souvenir for you. And if you’re building your pin collection, you cannot leave the party without an Ollie trading pin. This event assortment can be found in Stage 1 Company Store during this year’s event. These items are exclusive to party guests, so be sure to get your tickets now and come ready to shop this holiday season. To purchase tickets for Disney Jollywood Nights, happening on select nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, visit DisneyWorld.com/Jollywood. I can’t wait to see you at the party! Happy Ollie-days! Staying at a Disney World hotel is beyond magical. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht Club Hotel And that goes for any hotel, whether it’s a value, moderate, or deluxe resort. No matter where you stay, you’re surrounded by Disney magic, you have free transportation to the parks, and you even have early entry (and extended evening hours for those staying at deluxe hotels)! However, just like at any hotel, there may be some issues you run into — you can solve one of those big issues by just spending $12! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Never Run Out Of Charging Space Again! One Beat Extension Cord and Power Strip An extension cord and power strop are likely not the first (or even tenth) thing you think of packing for your Disney World trip, but we’re here to tell you that the One Beat Extension Cord and Power Strip is a MUST for your Disney World hotel stay. While we love most Disney World hotel rooms, one of their biggest downfalls is not having enough charging space for all devices. This gets even harder when the outlets that ARE there don’t all work! We own one! This makes that MUCH easier, especially if you make the choice to buy more than one. Not only does it have an extension cord built in (no more need to charge your phone near your bed but your watch across the room), but it has 3 regular plugs, 2 USB ports, AND 2 USB-C ports, all in one! Just trust us — it’s worth the $12 investment! Buy it here! Keep All Your MagicBand+s in ONE Place! MultiCharger for MagicBand+ If your family is planning on using lots of MagicBand+ on your trip and you’d like to charge them all in one place, this Multi-Charger is the way to go! However, it can be used for ANYTHING with a USB port, so it’s also a great way to make sure all your smartwatches or phones are charging in the same place (or for us, sometimes it’s our camera equipment!). MultiCharger for MagicBand+ This may not seem super important, but when it’s early morning and you and your family are trying to scramble around the hotel room to grab everything before you rush out for a wild park day, it’s helpful to have everything in one place! You can plug this into its own outlet, OR you could plug it into the power strip! Grab it here! We’re always here to bring you the latest and greatest Disney World tips, so stay tuned to DFB! SO much is changing in Disney World with even more change on the way. Lobby Concept Art ©Disney Yes, we saw the opening of a brand new ride this year, with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, in Magic Kingdom. We’re still waiting on word for opening dates for two new restaurants at Disney’s BoardWalk: The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers and Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs. We’re also tracking construction progress on Island Tower, the new DVC villas building at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. We have confirmed that the new building will have a new restaurant, and we’re breaking down the concept art Disney released of that restaurant. We saw this new concept art at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event — there was a display with concept art of Island Tower. This is the first time we’ve seen concept art like this, so you KNOW we had to check it all out. This art even included a first look at the rooms! The concept art display However, we’re Disney FOOD Blog, so we got really excited to see some concept art on this display of a new restaurant. Now, we expected a new restaurant at this building, but now we have official confirmation of what it will look like. It’s got a very beach vibe, HUGE windows with outdoor views, as well as adorable fish swimming just underneath the ceiling and seawood-looking plants rising up from the floor. Is this a hint that we’re looking at a new seafood dining spot in Disney World? Restaurant concept art We could also guess by the look of the restaurant that this is probably a table service location you’ll need reservations for. There does seem to be plenty of seating, though, including tables, chairs, and booth seating. Overall, though, we’re LOVING the vibe. Another piece of concept art makes it seem like there’s outdoor seating, too under a covered patio. Outdoor seating When we look at some of the construction photos, we’ve noticed an area that looks VERY similar to this part of the restaurant along the water, which is why we think there’s a water view there. The windows at the bottom look like they could be the restaurant! Of course, Disney has not yet revealed a name for this restaurant or given us any idea of what the menu might be like, but you know we’ll be keeping an eye out for more details because we are all about new food in Disney World. Island Tower is set to open in December 2025, so we’re guessing we’ll get more information any day now! So stay tuned to DFB for more. EPCOT can be one of the best parks to visit on your Disney World vacation. But, we get needing a break! The Dolphin When you’re looking to “make a break for it” OUT of EPCOT, there are several great options to consider like hopping on the Skyliner to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios, heading back to your hotel for a quick swim (or nap), and even taking some time out to do a little shopping at Disney Springs. But we’re telling you the perfect escape plan has been crafted, and we’ve got it down to a science! While making a full day or week of Disney World’s parks is super fun, there’s just a lot to take in, see, and do. Sometimes, that can get a little overwhelming especially when you’re in a park as big as EPCOT! EPCOT You’re in good company though, because as much as we love committing to a full day in this park, on occasion, we just need a break… and a quick exit strategy. Luckily, EPCOT’s one of the most convenient parks to exit and immediately find something else to do for all levels of activity ranging from truly relaxed to “we’re keeping the party going”! But the best place we’ve found to do that is at Disney’s Swan & Dolphin Resorts. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin So what exactly makes these seemingly unassuming hotels our top picks — they’ve got so much to offer! Let’s walk you through a few of our favorite reasons. (Re) Fuel We know, you just left EPCOT where there’s practically a food booth every time you turn around but trust us when we say the food sitch here is different. Fuel is one of the quick “grab-n-go” places you can visit for convenience-sized snacks, candies, drinks, and more. But, what we really want to highlight about this place is what’s DIFFERENT to get here. Fuel At Fuel, you can grab things like Mickey Waffles to go(!!)… Mickey Waffles! …buy Pepsi beverages including Red Bull (in fact, this is the only place on Disney World property to buy them)… Dr. Pepper! …and it’s also a super chill Dole Whip stop — bonus points though if you plan on mixing in some froyo toppings (you do you, friend). Dole Whip! Don’t trust us? Go ahead and try it out on your next visit, but we’re warning you already, you might find yourself choosing to visit EPCOT just to escape here more frequently. Camp Dolphin We’re only about to say what we’re about to say because several folks on our team are parents and sometimes you can use a small break from your kids on vacation. While things like this exist at Disney Destinations like Disney Cruise Line ships, they’re a bit fewer and farther between when at Disney World. This is the part where Camp Dolphin enters the chat! Camp Dolphin If you’re itching for a chance to ditch the kids for a few hours of fun for both parents and the kiddos alike, this could be your best opportunity. It’s quite literally a camp chocked full of activities, games, arts and crafts, and more for kids ages 5 to 12. Advanced reservations are required and space is super limited so you’ll want to make sure you’re booking as early as possible for your best chance to take advantage of this service. They’ve got time slots available for as little as 2 to 7 hours between 4 and 11PM. We’ve known lots of parents to use this service as a chance to enjoy a fancy signature dinner, enjoy a concert back inside EPCOT without having to worry about potty breaks or who’s sprinting away from your seat, take in a nightly fireworks show or simply just have a chance to relax. ©Disney Some of the kids’ clubs around Disney World’s hotels that were in operation prior to the pandemic didn’t reopen with the parks or the hotels, so the fact that this one still exists is a real treat. Psst… MORE Restaurants Are THIS Way Are you tired of visiting the same ol’ restaurants when you visit EPCOT or really looking for an enhanced experience to make your night extra memorable? You’re just a few steps away! Swan Resort Seriously, some of the best places to eat around Disney World are found right here and you’ll frequently hear us raving about the shakes and sandwiches from The Fountain, the authentic cuisine at Rosa Mexicano, and when we can’t get a reservation stopping by the bar at restaurants like Todd English’s BlueZoo. ©Disney We’ve also been known (from time to time) to skip our beloved Le Cellier in Canada for a premium experience and meal at Shula’s Steakhouse. We’re not biased though — this could totally be true of several restaurants you’ll find around these two hotels with Il Mulino and Kimonos rounding out the top of that list. When You Need A Little R&R There’s nothing like a nice spot with unmatched views when you just want to unwind for a bit. Tequila Pineapple seltzer These hotels have several lounges to explore or utilize as a quiet place to sit and eat when you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the park. We’ve been known to frequent these places when we just need a quick recharge and don’t need a huge meal, but would like somewhere to visit that’s not too far from the beaten path back to EPCOT. So there you have it, that’s our escape (err, exit) strategy that tends to satisfy all kinds of appetites and activity levels! We’re always looking for ways to help you plus up your first or next Disney World vacation! Be sure to stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for even more tips, tricks, and experiences! It’s nice to be a Disney World Annual Passholder. For one thing, you can go to Disney World as often as you want. You can score free souvenirs from time to time, like those collectible Passholder magnets. You get discounts, deals, exclusive merchandise, and so much more. Oh, and did we mention the Annual Passholder-exclusive TREATS?! Yeah, there’s a lot to enjoy as an Annual Passholder. Annual Passholder magnet Recently, Disney announced a NEW Passholder-exclusive treat is available now! We headed straight to Disney World to give it a try — come along with us, and let’s get snackin’. OK, we were VERY impressed with this dessert! This may go down as one of our favorite DOLE Whip floats (it’s got the makings of a top 5 treat). The first few sips were pure heaven; there’s plenty of sweet orange flavor mixed with a tart, tangy wild berry flavor that gives the DOLE Whip the perfect amount of zing. The wild berry flavor syrup mixes with the Fanta Orange in an unexpectedly perfect way — the combination of the juicy, fruity wild berries and the sweet, citrusy orange soda is fantastic. YUM! That said, as our treat melted, it became less exciting. Towards the end, everything blended together to a sticky, foamy mess that tasted a little syrupy. Eat this quickly for the best experience! It melts quickly! Despite the messy aftermath, we would order this again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cold, tart treat on a hot summer day. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. Get ready, Disney fans…BIG change is on the horizon! Critters! If you’re still reeling with all of the announced projects at the latest D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan weekend we can’t say we blame you. So many cool and exciting announcements were made about inducting new Disney Legends, and changes to the parks and attractions, and more details were uncovered about Disney’s dive head-first into mainstream gaming. But, one big announcement was hinted at during a collaborative sing-song fast break and if you weren’t listening closely, you likely missed it! During the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro (along with some quick wit and the gift of a song via celebs Darren Criss and Skylar Astin), announced several updates Disney parks visitors will see realized soon. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event During this jaunty rendition, the opening date of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disneyland was announced as November 15th, 2024 which also happens to be right around when the holiday season will kick off at Disneyland. Construction on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure However, the bigger project that was also linked to this opening also has to do with an existing land in the park. It seems that we’re getting ready to say goodbye to Critter Country as it’s set to be renamed Bayou Country when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens. Critter Country Bayou Country will be situated on the edge of New Orleans Square and when it’s officially rethemed, visitors will expect to find friendly woodland animals, some of which look like they’re ready to join the zydeco band inside the ride from a trumpet-playing gator to an adorable bear who craves honey along with a whole cast of bears, frogs, and other critters. Froggies and critters Bayou Country will also serve as the home to a few classic attractions you can already find at Disneyland like The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and the Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes. However, dining inside the land might look a little different as it’s main quick service restaurant is also getting a quick retheming into the Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree. ©Disney While you’re stopping on by, don’t forget to pick up your souvenirs to remember your trip from Ray’s Berets, Louis’ Critter Club, and your sweet treats from Pooh Corner. Ray’s Berets ©Disney Overall, the entire land is expected to be complete when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure officially opens in Disneyland, however, Disney has left it a bit open ended in case a few places and areas within the land open earlier. One of Disney World’s most iconic rides reopens in ONE WEEK — are you ready? Peter Pan It’s not uncommon for Disney World rides to undergo routine maintenance and refurbishment from time to time but when they do, they can really leave a hole in your park plans. If you’ve been planning to ride one of Disney World’s classic attractions soon, you’ll only have to hold out a few days longer for its reopening! An iconic ride is set to reopen in Magic Kingdom in one week! One of the most beloved classic rides in Fantasyland has been closed for several weeks due to a planned refurbishment and soon, our time of waiting to ride again will be over! Fantasyland crowds We knew before it happened that Disney World planned to close Peter Pan’s Flight for a planned refurbishment several weeks back. We have to admit though, we didn’t think things would be this quiet around Fantasyland without it. Peter Pan’s Flight When the refurbishment initially started, Disney World put up temporary construction walls within the ride’s mostly visible queue exterior (likely to keep park visitors safe from fumes and debris) so we’ve not had a chance to see exactly what has been worked on during this refurbishment. Peter Pan’s Flight is closed We do know from speaking to a Cast Member when it initially closed that this ride is one of the oldest in the park and when the ride was built, the facade within the land was built around it which adds to the already complicated area the show building is located in to refurbish. Peter Pan We’re fairly confident that this closure was meant to refurbish mechanical, technical, and painting details but there’s always the chance that more could have been worked on and updated during the closure. Peter Pan’s Flight is anticipated to reopen on August 21st assuming there’s no need to extend its closure. Peter Pan’s Flight If you’re looking to catch a ride aboard a pixie-dust fueled ship of your own and soar with Peter Pan and friends above the clouds, we recommend that you keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app (and check back with us here) to be certain of its operating hours as we get closer to its reopening. It’s been a MASSIVE weekend, friends! Overview of Pueblo Esperanza coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event this past weekend, we got to see tons of new merchandise (lots of which has hit the online Disney Store already), see loads of Disney Imagineers and icons, and of course, we heard TONS of HUGE news about what’s coming to Disney parks in the next few years. In case you missed it, here are the SEVEN (!!!) new rides coming to Disney World! Magic Kingdom One of the biggest announcements that fans are THRILLED about is that a Villains land is finally coming to Disney World! This land will be placed beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which is currently unused land (don’t worry, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad isn’t going anywhere — it’ll be BEHIND it!). Villains Land Concept Art ©Disney We don’t know much about this new land just yet, but we DO know that it will house not one, but TWO new attractions for guests to enjoy! There are so many great Disney Villains to choose from, we can’t wait to see how the theming of these rides will pan out. ©Disney But that’s not all that was announced for Magic Kingdom! A new Cars land (aka Radiator Springs) will be added to Frontierland, which will take the place of where Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America currently is (yes, this means that Tom Sawyer Island is 100% going away, and it’s extremely likely the Liberty Square Riverboat will also be going away, as it does travel in that waterway). ©Disney This new area will also house 2 new rides! The first is described as a “thrilling rally race through the mountains. Take on wild terrain as you race across the landscape climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers and — Mater’s favorite — splashing through mudholes.” Cars is coming to Magic Kingdom! ©Disney The other ride is described as being tuned more toward the whole family so that “smaller racers” can enjoy it as well! This likely means that this ride will not have a height requirement, or that it’ll be pretty low. Map of where the new Cars area will be We see you Magic Kingdom! Coming in HOT with these new ride announcements — we’re totally here for it. Disney’s Hollywood Studios A whole new LAND was announced for Disney’s Hollywood Studios — Monsters Inc. land! It’s unclear where this new land is going at the moment, but two of the top assumptions based on the concept art are Muppets Courtyard/Star Tours (which would mean the end of MuppetVision 3D) OR where Animation Courtyard/Star Wars Launch Bay currently is. Monsters Inc. Land Concept Art ©Disney Nothing has been guaranteed right now, as construction won’t begin until 2026, but we do know that there will be a huge new attraction coming to this new land! It’ll be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster that will take you through the Laugh Factory — yes, you’ll get to soar just like the doors do in the film! In fact, you ARE one of the doors, practically! You can even ride on a door like Mike and Sully in the iconic scene from the film with Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster. ©Disney We’re so excited for this new land and attraction! Disney’s Animal Kingdom And the announcement we were all waiting for — we got more confirmation about what’s coming to the Tropical Americas, now called Pueblo Esperanza, which will be replacing DinoLand U.S.A. in Animal Kingdom. We now know that Dinosaur WILL be replaced by an Indiana Jones attraction, but it will be DIFFERENT than the Disneyland version! This new ride will take guests inside a Mayan Temple — sounds intriguing! The new Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom lets guests explore a preserved Maya temple – and the ensuing adventure – alongside Indiana Jones. ©Disney We also know that an Encanto-themed attraction will also be in Pueblo Esperanza! This attraction will take guests through the Casita and allow them to see members of the Madrigal family. We don’t have any other details at this time, but we’re looking forward to hearing more! A new attraction themed after the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Encanto” follows Antonio the day after he received his magical gift – the ability to communicate with animals and is situated in the new Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. ©Disney And finally, a carousel was announced for this new land! A carousel featuring the resident wood carver’s favorite animals. ©Disney This carousel’s back story is that the resident wood carver of Pueblo Esperanza carved his favorite animals to make the ride. We got a sneak peek of the kind of detail we can expect on the ride, and this is going to be gorgeous! A carousel model on display at the d23 Ultimate Fan Convention We can’t wait to hear more about these attractions as they start to break ground and get started over the next few years! More D23 News! We’re still reeling from all the pixie-dusted surprises from the last few days at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. The first-ever attraction based off of Pixar Animation Studios’ “Coco”? The opening date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland park? Doubling the size of Avengers Campus? What a weekend! Want to catch up on all the exciting announcements? We’ve pulled the latest and greatest Disneyland Resort news from the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase. Let’s take a look: “Avatar” Updates Announced for Disney California Adventure Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro kicked off the night with updates on the new Pandora-themed destination coming to Disney California Adventure park. The area will draw inspiration from “Avatar: The Way of Water” and upcoming Avatar films like “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” and feature a new dynamic attraction where you can discover the beauty – and dangers – of Pandora. First-Ever “Coco” Attraction Announced We’re going un poco loco for the new attraction themed to “Coco” coming to Disney California Adventure! Guests will join Miguel on a trip to the land of the dead with beloved music and characters from the film. Work begins on the attraction in 2026. Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics Figure Coming to Disneyland A tribute to Walt Disney is coming to Disneyland with the debut of the first-ever Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure at an all-new show on Main Street U.S.A.! “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” will premiere inside the Main Street Opera House and after its opening season, will transition to play in rotation with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.” Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Opens this Holiday Season We’re going down the bayou on November 15, 2024 when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “The Princess and the Frog,” opens at Disneyland park! Also announced: Critter Country will be renamed Bayou Country when the attraction opens. We’re ready to let the good times roll! New Mandalorian Mission Coming to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Attention Star Wars fans: a new mission is touching down at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. The all-new story, centered around “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” arrives in 2026 in time with the film. 2 New Attractions Coming to Avengers Campus We still can’t believe Deadpool crashed D23! After a few questionable ideas from the “Merc with a Mouth,” Josh shared updates and a name for the new attraction coming to Avengers Campus – Avengers Infinity Defense, and announced an all-new attraction, Stark Flight Lab. Construction begins next year on the expansion, and the debut of these new attractions will double the size of the land. This tasty gumbo pot of surprises has barely scratched the surface of all the thrills from the weekend. Check out can’t-miss announcements from Disney Experiences around the world — including new attractions, lands, nighttime spectaculars and more. Plus, stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for exclusive updates as these projects come to life. The post ICYMI: Disneyland Resort D23 Event 2024 Recap appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. If your ideal meal consists of hot dogs, mac and cheese, and a milkshake Disney World has the PERFECT restaurant to meet your needs. Our meal at Dockside Diner We’ve dined at this cozy quick-service restaurant found in Disney’s Hollywood Studios before, but it warranted an updated visit. So, we decided it was time to stroll by the lake, sit down for a spell, and see if this restaurant’s food had changed much since we last dined here. When you’re breezing by Echo Lake and feel that rumbling, hungry feeling coming on, weigh anchor at the Dockside Diner. This restaurant is built on the inside of the rustic “S.S. Down the Hatch” ship located on the lake and serves up a small menu of eats and drinks. Dockside Diner However, since it’s a smaller restaurant it has been known to operate under limited hours or close early on days when less crowds are anticipated, so if you’re looking to stop by for some grub here, you’ll want to check its operating hours in the My Disney Experience app just to be certain. Atmosphere This restaurant is made to look like it’s built into the side of a ship and cut down the center to expose its counter. It’s quite inventive to put the restaurant so close to Echo Lake and with such a whimsical feel but since it’s set up this way, there’s not much it’s able to offer its diners beyond that. The open concept When you approach the restaurant there are a few posted menus and a Cast Member to take your order if you’ve not placed a mobile order in advance… Huge seating area …the utensils here are plastic and they’re offered with the condiments at a self-service station. Self serve utensils And surrounding the restaurant there are communal seating tables, most of which are covered by large canvas umbrellas to offer a little bit of shade. Menu As we mentioned before, you do have the option to place a mobile order in advance that you can pick up from the restaurant or place your order with a Cast Member when you step up in the ordering line. The menu will be posted near where the line starts… Main Menu …and just above the service counter where your food will be served (although this will be a bit more extensive than the previously mentioned menu). The entrees here are mostly hot dogs, mac & cheese, a combination of the two… Stepping up to the order counter …a few seasonal options for desserts and will offer a few non-alcoholic beverages like water and soda, along with a few beer and cocktail drink options. Seasonal and beverage offerings If you have questions about the menu offerings, don’t be afraid to ask the Cast Member taking orders about dietary modifications for allergies and restrictions. Drinks We kicked this review off with the Blue Sea Margarita. This drink is made of Patrón Silver Tequila, Bols Blue Curacao, and sweet-and-sour which we picked up for $18. Blue Sea Margarita We found this drink to be a crystal blue color (thanks to that lovely curacao Disney World likes to use so much), and we also thought it was a decent strength for how long it sat while taking a few pictures and videos of it. As far as the taste though, it’s basically all tequila and the blue curacao and that’s the main flavor combo! Kinda sweet, but mostly tequila Don’t get us wrong, it was stronger than most Disney margaritas but beyond that, there just wasn’t much flavor to back it up. The sweet and sour syrup hangs around the top but ours didn’t have a lot so we ended up noting more of that tequila flavor than anything in this drink. If you’re ordering this one you might want to swirl it around a little bit to mesh the flavors again before sipping on it. Eats Along with our drink, we also decided to try the Pretzel Hot Dog and Bacon Mac & Cheese. Full spread We’ll talk about the Pretzel Hot Dog first. This entree is made of an all-beef quarter-pound hot dog topped with apple-braised sauerkraut and onions, drizzled with mustard aïoli on a pretzel bread bun, and served with house-made chips. We picked this one up for $12.79. Pretzel Hot Dog and house-made chips This was…interesting. The pretzel bun on the hot dog had a tougher exterior but did soften up a bit on the inside. Admittedly, ours sat in the heat for a bit longer than someone else’s probably would have but that allowed the sauerkraut and sweet onion juices to seep into the bun and make it a bit soggier against the beef hot dog. They didn’t help in terms of flavor much more than cutting down some of the sharper tones in the mustard aïoli. Probably not our favorite hot dog we’ve had at Disney World, but it served its purpose. Inside of the hot dog Disney World must really be pushing the option of the house-made chips because we’ve seen them popping up everywhere as a side. If you’ve never had them before they reminded us of baked chips that are a little thicker than a fried potato chip would be. They’re certainly not as salty and ours had a light barbecue seasoning to it. House-made chips They’re nothing special to write home about but they do give a nice snap when you bite into them as opposed to an expected crunch. Then it was time to try out the Bacon Mac & Cheese. As you probably guessed this is made of house-made macaroni and beer cheese, bacon, and topped with bread crumbs. You can pick this up for $10.49. Bacon Mac & Cheese We should have expected the texture of the mac & cheese to be a bit thicker but try telling that to your taste buds when you’ve seen so many creamy versions of Disney World mac & cheese. It had a faint yellow color to it but the beer cheese when cooled was clumpy and thickened. Cheesy bite! Even at its freshest, the entire thing tasted like a box of Kraft mac & cheese that had sat out for a while and it really could have used more cheese to doctor it up quite a bit. The bacon bits were chewy and made out of thicker cuts of bacon instead of crunchier bites and we think it really could have used more of the bread crumbs on top to help strengthen that bit of texture they were trying to achieve on this. Overall Overall we’d say this restaurant is good in a pinch and only if you’re not looking to stay put for very long. The menu here isn’t terribly extensive and what foods they do have to offer aren’t terribly memorable in all the best ways. Just the dog While we did enjoy parts of our meal, it wasn’t anything life-changing that we just couldn’t get anywhere so that’s why it falls in the middle of the road for us. Reliable enough to fill our bellies, but certainly not our first choice. Nosh or Not? Step right up and place an order at Dockside Diner if… You need something quick! This restaurant can get busy but we’ve seen the Cast Members here weather a rush on many occasions. If you’re starving and want food as soon as possible, this is a great option. You want to relax and people-watch for a bit. The seating here is entirely outdoors and situated in a spot where you can literally watch people pass by from multiple angles. If you like to sit around and enjoy people-watching for a few minutes, this is an excellent spot! You’re a social butterfly! If you like meeting new people and conversing about your experiences while on vacation this spot could be right up your alley. The seating is in close proximity to other tables so you’re potentially an icebreaker away from making some new friends while on vacation. We’d recommend trying out another spot if… You need quality food and flavor. While nothing we tasted here was horrible, it was just middle of the road for us, and if you’re someone who wants to walk away from a Disney World meal feeling impressed this might not be the best restaurant for you. It’s extremely hot and humid. This restaurant is entirely outdoors including its seating. While there are a few umbrellas at the tables to provide shade, there’s not much to help you further about keeping the heat off of you. You need back support enjoying your meal. The seating here is set up on mostly picnic-style tables. This offers basically no back support and if that’s something that will matter to you, you might find yourself taking your food a little further away from the restaurant with you to enjoy it. There are a lot of abandoned attractions and buildings across Disney World, and some are hidden in plain sight. The Wonders of Life Pavilion EPCOT is home to the abandoned Wonders of Life Pavilion, and now behind Hollywood Studios lies the abandoned Star Wars hotel, The Galactic Starcruiser. And who can forget about the abandoned NBA Experience sitting in Disney Springs. We recently were curious about an abandoned attraction that Disney tried to hide with a different kind of version of Go-Away-Green over at Animal Kingdom. Did you know that Magic Kingdom is not the only park that is home to a train? There is actually a train hidden in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom that will take you on a one way trip to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and Conservation Station. Take the Train! This train is better known as the Wildlife Express and will drop you off at Rafiki’s Planet Watch wear you can get up close and personal with animals in the Affection Section which is a petting zoo. Conservation Station The Conservation Station is also home to the Animation Experience at Conservation Station. Here you can participate in a 20-minute experience where you can animate some of your favorite animal Disney characters. You can also get an inside look at what animal caretakers are working on as there is viewing glass around Conservation Station. Animation Experience While all of these attractions are still available for you to visit and enjoy, there is one attraction that is hidden in plain sight. Remember when we mentioned Go-Away-Green? Well, this version of Go-Away-Green is ferns. What is behind those ferns? Behind those ferns lies an abandoned attraction. Grandmother Willow used to narrate the Song of the Rainforest. This show was a Binaural Sound Show located in the sound booths located at the Conservation Station. If you were wondering who Grandmother Willow is, she is from the 1995 film Pocahontas. Sound booth It is no secret that Central Florida is home to a lot of rainstorms and sometime in 2011, lightning actually struck Conservation Station. This ended up frying the computer system that was used to run the show. So what about backup? Well, there was not any. The show was run on Windows 98, so it was never backed up. Which meant the show could no longer run. Tips and Tricks for Surviving the Rainiest of Days at Disney World Due to this, the sound booths now sit abandoned in the Conservation Station. Last year we saw some Grandmother Willow representation in the parks when Disney released this pin for World Wildlife Day in 2023. Grandmother Willow World Nature Day Pin While there is no word on whether Disney will use these booths to create another experience, we wonder why they have kept them for the past 13 or so years. Regardless, it is still cool that there is a piece of Disney history hidden in plain sight. Disney World isn’t just chicken nuggets and cheeseburgers, but you probably already knew that. These days, you can get a thick, juicy steak at Le Cellier, a handmade pizza at Via Napoli, or an authentic meal at Takumi-Tei. Spaceship Earth at EPCOT The possibilities are practically endless! If you’re willing to splurge, you can get some really good food at Disney World. In fact, there’s one signature dining restaurant that offers a unique experience — and it’s hiding in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion! Any guesses? If you’re not familiar, let us formally introduce you to Takumi-Tei, a fine signature dining restaurant in EPCOT’s Japan pavilion. Takumi-Tei — which means “house of the artisan” — is inspired by Japan’s natural beauty. You’ll be seated in one of five rooms inspired by a natural element: water, wood, earth, stone, or washi paper. It’s a gorgeous restaurant with an impressive menu. Takumi-Tei Now, what makes this place special is Takumi-Tei’s prix-fixe menu, consisting of two omakase* multi-course meal options: an omnivorous “Kiku” meal for $250 per person (with plates that include Sushimi, Soups, a Wagyu Beef Roll, a selection of desserts, and more), and a plant-based “Hasu” meal for $250 per person. Wine pairing is also an option with the omasake meals. (*Omasake dining is a style where you “leave it up to the chef” and let them curate your meal!) Fried Tofu Unlike, say, a place like Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom, this restaurant has a fluid, ever-changing menu. The menu contents change every three months in line with the four Japanese seasons. You could go multiple times within a year and have a completely different experience! Menu In the past, there were a few notable ways to pay less than the $250 per-person price tag. First, the plant-based “Hasu” meal was $150 per person; the price has now increased to $250 per person. Additionally, starting September 1st, 2024, Annual Pass and DVC discounts will no longer be available. Dessert It seems like soon, there won’t be much getting around those high prices. But, to be fair, this is a signature dining experience with a thoughtful menu and chef-quality entrees. It’s not your average theme park meal, that’s for sure! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. We have some sad caramel apple news to share with you… Where did the caramel apples go? Caramel apples have been DISAPPEARING off the shelves in Disney World! This deliciously chewy, crunchy, and sweet treat seems to be nowhere to be found and we did some digging to find out why. One of our lovely readers messaged us asking about the lack of caramel apples in Disney World and we needed to find out for ourselves! Caramel apples are an iconic treat in the Disney parks and it would be a tragedy if they were being taken out of stores. Halloween Caramel Apples One of our reporters stopped by Bayview Gifts inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and, sure enough, there was not a single caramel apple to be seen! We were getting worried and needed to get to the bottom of this caramel apple fiasco. Where are the apples? We spoke with Cast Members and while they assured us that caramel apples aren’t disappearing for good, it will be a bit before we can enjoy one again. Apparently, due to quality issues, caramel apples needed to be pulled from the cases and it will be 10-15 days before they are back on display again. This is due to a recall of the caramel used when making the apples. Pecan Praline Caramel Apple The Cast Member did mention that they weren’t sure if it was affecting all stores and we are curious if Karamell-Küche in EPCOT is also without caramel right now. We will continue to be on the lookout for any caramel apples and we will keep you updated on the great caramel apple disappearance. Easter Egg Caramel Apple While caramel apples are a favorite of guests, there are still plenty of delicious, sweet treats to get while you are in Disney World. Some of our favorites include the Warm Cinnamon Roll from Gaston’s Tavern in Magic Kingdom, the School Bread from Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe in EPCOT, churros from Nomad Lounge in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the PB&J Milkshake at the Tune-In Lounge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. School Bread If you want even more recommendations for our favorite food in Disney World, look no further than our video that is the ULTIMATE guide to the best food in Disney World! We have eaten everywhere and we want you to know about the best food you can get: We are hoping to see caramel apples back on display soon, but there is still plenty of great food to enjoy until then. In February, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts was named in a lawsuit filed in Orange County following the death of a woman who dined at Raglan Road in Disney Springs. A man named Jeffrey Piccolo filed a 19-page lawsuit against Disney and Raglan Road after his wife, Kanokporn Tangsuan, passed away on October 5th, 2023. Disney Springs The suit alleged that Piccolo, Piccolo’s mother, and Tangsuan dined at Raglan Road and informed their waiter of Tangsuan’s severe food allergies, requesting allergen-free food. Then, later that evening, Tangsuan passed away due to an allergic reaction. Piccolo’s lawsuit states that his party questioned the waiter about menu items “to confirm whether they had allergens in them or not,” and after receiving confirmation that the food could be safely prepared, Tangsuan suddenly passed away that night after suffering from a severe acute allergic reaction. Welcome to Disney World According to Piccolo’s lawsuit, a medical examiner determined that Kanokporn Tangsuan’s cause of death “was as a result of anaphylaxis due to elevated levels of dairy and nut in her system.” Piccolo is seeking more than $50,000 in damages under Florida’s wrongful death act, in addition to mental pain and suffering, loss of income, and funeral expenses. The suit argued that Disney did not properly teach its employees how to ensure that food indicated as “allergen-free” was safe. Disney Springs Now, Disney is responding to the lawsuit. According to CNN, Disney filed court documents to attempt to dismiss the lawsuit. The reasoning? The plaintiff, Jeffrey Piccolo, signed up for a one-month trial of Disney+ in 2019. Per the terms of the Disney+ trial, users are required to arbitrate all disputes with the company. Additionally, Disney stated that Piccolo used the Walt Disney World website to buy EPCOT park tickets; therefore, Disney is shielded from a lawsuit from the estate of Piccolo’s deceased wife, Kanokporn Tangsuan. ©Disney Piccolo’s lawyer responded to Disney’s argument, claiming Disney’s argument is “preposterous,” “outrageously unreasonable and unfair,” according to CNN. He added that Disney is “explicitly seeking to bar its 150 million Disney+ subscribers from ever prosecuting a wrongful death case against it in front of a jury even if the case facts have nothing to with Disney+.” Disney World Disney has not responded to these statements. We will continue to share updates about this developing case. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event was filled with TONS of excitement, we still can’t believe some of the news! Monsters Inc. roller coaster There are so many new attractions coming to Disney World and Disneyland, as well as the international parks, and one of the largest announcements was that a new Monsters Inc. land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! But here’s the thing — Hollywood Studios isn’t THAT big of a park (as it stands, it’s the second smallest next to Magic Kingdom), so it’s extremely likely that this new land will take the place of an existing attraction in the park. And Muppets fans, we need to warn you that it could be very bad news for Muppets Courtyard. Now, to preface, NOTHING has been confirmed about where this new Monsters Inc. land will go in the parks! However, from the concept art of the new land, there are a few sections of the park that it could fit into. The first theory fans have is that it could replace Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy over in Sunset Boulevard. A new land is coming to Hollywood Studios! However, the concept art doesn’t reaaally look like this area, if we’re being honest (but it could still happen). Another common assumption has been that it could be placed in Animation Courtyard, which would take the place of Disney Junior Play and Dance! and/or Star Wars Launch Bay. A new land themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Taking place after the events of the film, Monstropolis need humans’ laughter to power the city. ©Disney Again though, we’re skeptical that this concept art matches this area. Concept art can always change, yes, but…*sigh* if we’re being honest with ourselves, we have to admit what the concept art really looks like — it looks like it’s smack dab in the middle of Muppets Courtyard. Monsters Inc. Land Concept Art ©Disney We know, we know, we don’t want to admit it either, but it’s time to face the unfortunate truth that it’s entirely possible we could need to say goodbye to Muppets Courtyard, which consists of PizzeRizzo and MuppetVision 3D (as well as Mama Melrose’s) when construction begins on this new land in 2026. And since the new land appears to be so large, it could take away Star Tours and Backlot Express as well. You can even ride on a door like Mike and Sully in the iconic scene from the film with Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster. ©Disney That does mean that we still have over a year to still experience Muppets Courtyard IF Disney does announce that this is where Monstropolis will be going! And the same can be said for any attractions that will be getting cut for this new land. While we’re excited to see this new land come to life, we still have a LONG time until we see it come to fruition, so nothing is changing anytime soon. You can still go see Sam Eagle’s glorious 3 hour finale that had to be cut down to a minute and a half. More D23 News!
