Hop in and take a fast-paced, spinning trip into the world of toys, complete with beloved Toy Story friends like Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, and more. With Toy Story 5 now in theaters, dedicated Pixar fans like me are excited to discover new ways to celebrate with Toy Story-inspired fun across Disney Parks, including the latest Toy Story merch on DisneyStore.com and tips to score big on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Still, the always-classic Toy Story Midway Mania! at Disney California Adventure park and Toy Story Mania! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Tokyo DisneySea continues to invite guests to step inside a swiveling carnival car and take aim in a fast-paced, midway-inspired competition, allowing passionate fans to push for high scores and discover new secrets (and Easter eggs) along the way. Want to gain an edge against your friends and family before your next visit to the parks? Reach for the sky and get ready to take your best shot at the leaderboard with these tips and tricks for each of the games found on board this exhilarating attraction. Toy Story Mania! High Score Tips and Tricks: Queue and Practice Round Hamm & Eggs Rex & Trixie’s Dino Darts Green Army Men Shoot Camp Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers Woody’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Gallery and Bonus Round Tally Up Your High Score Queue and Practice Round As you make your way through the queue at each of the three attraction locations, you’ll discover Andy’s latest toy: the Toy Story Midway Games Play Set. Filled with die-cut cardboard pieces of game booths, game pieces, food carts, and everything else needed to stage a full carnival midway, Sheriff Woody has decided to take charge and make sure that different toys inside Andy’s room have a chance to host each game. Now, honorary toys like you have been invited into Andy’s bedroom to play these games too, where you’ll depart inside Toy Story Carnival Tram vehicles that were included in the playset, influenced by the Victorian look of a 1900s midway. Once you’ve been greeted by an Audio-Animatronics figure of Mr. Potato Head, secured your 3-D glasses, and hopped on board a ride vehicle that features a decal of a different Toy Story character, you’ll be ready to head into the practice round with your spring-action shooter device in hand. High Score Tips: Rex can be a very key ally during your ride. This friendly, green T-Rex loves to solve games and puzzles, so listen closely and he’ll give you hints during each game. In the practice round, you’ll be greeted by Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, and Rex, holding practice targets like shields as you launch pies at their targets. During this brief round, the characters will move their hand-held target/shield and try to avoid taking a pie to the face; in certain scenarios, these targets may even end up decorated like a Picasso after you’ve launched a flurry of pies to familiarize yourself with your designated projectile color. Since there is not any scoring in this section, some players prefer to save their energy (and arm strength), while others prefer to get an initial feel for the attraction’s gameplay to start off – there is no right or wrong answer. Hamm & Eggs Kicking off the gameplay circuit, this barnyard-themed booth invites you to grab a supply of hard-boiled eggs and aim for a lively collection of targets as Hamm and Buttercup lead the charge for the first game on your ride. At this booth, you’ll knock down as many barnyard targets as possible (some are stationary, while others seem to be moving along conveyor belts), with some clearly in front of you and others hiding behind facades. Keep an eye out for surprise pop-up targets as well, which can reveal higher-scoring opportunities when hit. High Score Tips: Listen for Buttercup’s cue to aim for the fox in the henhouse door. Hitting this target triggers a rush of high-value chickens to spill out from the henhouse, giving you a prime opportunity to rack up points. Keep returning to this target whenever possible to maximize your score. Rex & Trixie’s Dino Darts Hosted by Rex and Trixie, this prehistoric midway game lets you launch darts at colorful balloons alongside a cast of toy dinosaurs, along with other targets like dino eggs, lava bubbles, and palm leaves. Here, darts frequently bounce off nearby balloons, creating satisfying chain reactions that can quickly boost your score. Staying focused on clustered targets can help you take full advantage of these ricochet opportunities, especially while working toward several hidden scenarios that can be uncovered over the course of the game. As your rapid countdown to extinction begins, one key sequence begins at the base of the volcano. Aim to pop all three vertical balloons positioned along the front each time they appear, as doing so triggers a full eruption that sends a flurry of 500-point balloons into the air and opens a wave of scoring chances for you and your game partner. High Score Tips: After the eruption, look to the skies where two meteors will soar into sight on both corners of the screen. Relying on collaborative timing and coordination, work with your ride partner to hit these targets repeatedly, which can set off a full-blown meteor shower filled with bonus balloons and lead to one of the highest scoring boosts in the game. Green Army Men Shoot Camp Permission to break plates? Granted. Once Sarge (the gung-ho commander of the Green Army Men) gives the all clear to “break those plates,” act like a shortstop and use your spring-action shooter to “throw” baseballs at moving plates located at a toy training ground. High Score Tips: In addition to the airborne targets, look for the gold, 1,000-point plates positioned near each side of the booth. Hitting these not only adds to your overall score, but triggers a toy cannon animation toward the screen! Plates are constantly marching and moving (many are being pulled across the game booth by remote-control helicopters, tanks, and airplanes), but one way to make sure you get a high score during this game is by hitting the two, 2,000-point plates being thrown into the air on both sides of the mountain. If you and your game partner both break each dish on the same toss, a tank may also appear, yielding high-scoring plates that help take your game to the next level. Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers As a longtime Buzz Lightyear fan, this outer space-themed midway booth has long been a personal favorite of mine. Between its galactic targets and high-value opportunities, it’s also one of the best chances to boost your overall score. Here, you’ll use your spring-action shooter to toss rings at a variety of targets, including the iconic Aliens floating aboard flying saucers and rocket ships. In a high-scoring setting featuring “The Claw” and several galactic elements reminiscent of Buzz and Woody’s adventures inside Pizza Planet in the original film, this game is one of the best chances you’ll have to take your score to even greater heights during your next rendezvous with Star Command. High Score Tips: Keep an eye just beyond the rocket ship in the center, and you’ll spot Aliens on flying saucers worth 5,000 points each. Be sure to prioritize these high-scoring targets to boost your score. Even though you’ll certainly be competing against confident siblings, ambitious friends, and competitive parents, one of the biggest scoring opportunities relies on teamwork. At the start of the round, work together with your ride partner to quickly land rings on all the Aliens positioned on the rocket ship in the center of the screen, and if successful, you’ll unlock a secret “level” where a giant robot suddenly appears on the screen. Aim for the robot’s mouth to score big, but don’t give up – the point level keeps increasing each time this robot opens their mouth. Woody’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Gallery and Bonus Round This high-flying attraction wouldn’t be complete without Woody at the helm. In this final western-themed booth, you’ll enter a setting inspired by the set from the Woody’s Roundup TV show featured in Toy Story 2. Here, you’ll aim suction-cup tipped darts at a variety of targets, including cacti, fences, and trees. Each successful hit not only adds to your overall score, but also triggers animated gags when hit, where targets spin, collapse, and reveal additional opportunities. Plus, if you and the other person inside the tram work together to hit all of the targets in the gallery (plus the ones that are eventually revealed) at least one time before the vehicle starts to move, all targets will pop open at once. High Score Tips: If you are starting to run low on stamina, you may want to switch up which arm you’re aiming and shooting with during the bonus round – you will likely get tired! As your vehicle advances, the game transitions into a hectic finale led by Jessie, inviting you into a gold mine-themed bonus round. Mine carts race across the screen with increasing point values and offer prime scoring opportunities, but keep an eye out for bats at the top of the screen as another sneaky way to boost your score. After the mine carts clear, a large bonus target will appear on the screen, with point values climbing rapidly with each hit. Furiously hitting this target gives you a final chance to boost your high score, so keep firing as many times as possible as the “mother lode of gold” rises into view. Tally Up Your High Score on Each Ride Once you’ve completed each game, your journey concludes at a final stop in front of a “prize booth,” hosted by familiar faces from across the films, including Woody with Dolly and Mr. Pricklepants, Rex and Trixie, Jessie with Buttercup, and the Aliens alongside Spanish-mode Buzz Lightyear. Here, your total score is tallied, giving you a chance to see how you performed across each round and discover which virtual plush prizes you’ve earned along the way. Toy Story Mania! Plush Prizes: 0: Turtle 1: Armadillo 20,000: Gopher 40,000: Bird 60,000: Bunny 100,000: Beaver 150,000: Cat 220,000: Elk 300,000: Bear As your vehicle prepares to head back to the loading station, a “GameBrain” hand-held video game device displays the top scores of the hour, day, and month, along with the coveted “Best in Vehicle” honor, a small but likely-memorable victory worth celebrating during your Disney vacation (I know it always is for me). If you’re traveling to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney California Adventure park, or Tokyo DisneySea, Toy Story Mania! remains one of the most re-rideable attractions across the parks. With no height requirement, appearances from some of Pixar’s most beloved characters, and a cool, indoor setting that’s perfect to beat the heat, it’s a go-to attraction for competitive, Toy Story-loving families at any time of the day. If it’s your first round ever or your fiftieth matchup against family members, there is always room to improve your score, whether you’re chasing your personal record or one-upping your ride partner. You’ve got a play date with destiny, so step right up, grab your spring-action shooter, and take your best shot at a new high score. If you’re planning a Disneyland vacation in 2027, get ready for some significant changes. Mike in Disney California Adventure The Disneyland Resort has seen quite a bit of change in 2026, with the 70th Anniversary Celebration wrapping up and notable progress on new attractions being built at Disney California Adventure. Next year will feature even more change — which means our tried-and-true Disneyland traditions will have to change in 2027. It’s safe to say that your typical Disneyland traditions may need to be altered in 2027. Here are three things that the resort is doing away with in the new year! Old-School Pin Trading Disneyland changed its pin-trading policies in 2026, and those changes will carry over into 2027. Crowds pin trading Now, you can only trade official Disney pins, and they need to be in good condition with the pin backing attached. Pin trading board Another rule is that you can ONLY trade a maximum of two pins per Cast Member or trading board per day. This is also a one-for-one trading system, so you can only trade one pin at a time (this means if you’re trading with a Cast Member or board and your pin is worth more, you won’t be able to get two in exchange). And you’ll need to ask a Cast Member or guest before grabbing their pins. Pin trading board You can trade pins anywhere using a lanyard or small handheld pin-trading accessories, “but no additional decorations or collateral (e.g., lights, signage, displays, etc.) are permitted.” So those big pin binders you’re used to seeing? It looks like they’re being phased out. Showing off our pins Now, designated pin-trading meetups inside the parks are a thing of the past — at least in their previous capacity. Pins are not allowed to be displayed on benches, chairs, or tables. You’ll need to trade with other guests in a more discreet, free-flowing manner. New rules It’s a good idea to get familiar with the rules online at Disneyland’s website before engaging in pin trading at Disneyland in 2027. New to Pin Trading? Here’s Everything You Actually Need to Know! Enjoying the Monsters, Inc. Ride Over in Disney California Adventure, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will be shutting its doors for good in 2027. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! This adorable family dark ride has survived a few demolition rumors over the years and even staved off a once-scheduled permanent closure in 2026, but Disney has confirmed that the ride will close its doors (all millions of them) in 2027. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! The ride is being removed along with most of the Hollywood Backlot to make way for a new Avatar land in California Adventure. This new land will feature a thrilling boat ride. ©Disney While we’re excited for this new Avatar expansion, we’re definitely going to miss joining Mike, Sulley, and Boo on their adventure in Monstropolis! All the NEW Rides and Attractions at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in 2026 and Beyond Smelling the Autopia Gas Some traditions are better left in the past — and this one wasn’t exactly healthy. Autopia in Disneyland Back in 2024, Disney paid the California Air Resources Board a $56,250 settlement to resolve Autopia car engine violations, and the fallout for guests will be experienced massively in 2027. By February 2027, Autopia HAS to switch to using electric vehicles. Autopia Car This project has been in the works for a couple of years now, and Disneyland officials have created a new vehicle prototype. The previous cars featured Honda engines without certified emission controls, and they were promptly corrected without any environmental impact. Autopia ticket Ultimately, the ride will need to close — either to install these changes or simply because Disney didn’t meet the deadline — or the vehicles might be placed on the ride without any sort of closure. Either way, we’ll keep you posted when that information is announced. Disneyland’s Autopia Walt’s original theme park resort is ever-changing, so we won’t be surprised if more traditions are canceled or created in the near future. Who’s ready for a treat that practically screams “theme park snack“?? Dollywood! With a name like “Disney Food Blog,” it’s no secret that we love tasting our way around the theme parks. And we’re just as dedicated to snacking even when we head outside of the Disney parks! We recently took a trip to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and tried a TON of food, including Dollywood’s most iconic treat. Now, who’s ready for a closer look at a Dollywood snack that puts a twist (literally) on the classic theme park hot dog?? One of our stops on our recent visit to Dollywood was Potato Tornado in the Rivertown Junction area of the park. This snack stand is known for its namesake “Potato Tornado,” a spiral-cut spud on a skewer, which is similar to the internet-famous Twisted Taters found at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. But instead of the classic Potato Tornado, we grabbed the version with an extra twist. Potato Tornado Menu We ordered the Twisted Dog, which is a hot dog wrapped in a spiral-cut potato! This was a classic sausage hot dog with a good snap in the bite, although it wasn’t overly meaty. The potato is crispy, with a texture like potato chips. The potato was a bit on the oily side, but as long as that isn’t a dealbreaker for you, we thought this snack was perfectly salty, fatty, and a fun experience! Twisted Dog! As another plus, they’re made to order, so ours was super fresh! For $13.99 this is a solid snack that combines classic American flavors. It could be a great choice to hold you over between meals if you’re in the mood for some quintessential theme park food with a fun take! Obviously, if you’re not a hot dog fan, this one won’t be for you, but you could opt for the Potato Tornado instead to skip the meat and just stick with the spud portion. A Classic With a Twist! Of course, we’ll keep scoping out the must-try food and drinks at ALL of the theme parks we visit, so stick with us at DFB for our latest reviews and tips! REVIEW: We Tried 9 (!!!) Summer is in full swing here in Southern California, and I know I’ll be planning plenty of visits to the Disneyland Resort to soak up the sun! During a warm park day, there’s nothing better than taking a break with a cool, refreshing treat in hand, whether it’s ice cream in your favorite form, a fruity blended beverage, or revitalizing flavored cold brew. While there’s no shortage of delicious desserts to discover throughout Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park, I’ve rounded up some of my go-to chilled picks to help you sip, swirl, and snack all season long. Ice Cream and Milkshakes Toasty temperatures and ice cream are a match made in heaven, and here are some of my favorite spots to secure scoops, sundaes, sandwiches, and more as you’re getting into the summer spirit. Outdoor Vending Carts If you’re searching for a sweet summertime snack, the most classic options can be found in snack carts around the parks. Fans (myself included) have long loved the iconic Mickey bars and ice cream sandwiches – themed treats that are easy to have in hand as you’re strolling around and trying to stay cool – but you can also find frozen items like popsicles, frozen bananas, and chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches. Parks Blog Picks: Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Sandwich Frozen Bananas Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor hosted by Dreyer’s Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor has the charm and cheer of an old-fashioned ice cream shop, and is always one of my favorite spots to stop at on Main Street U.S.A. Here you’ll find specialty sundaes, floats, and hand-scooped cups and cones, with sweet toppings to make your dessert extra magical. Different scoop and sundae sizes allow for splitting (if you’re feeling generous), but no judgment if you don’twant to share. Parks Blog Picks: Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae: two scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream and two Fresh-baked Chocolate Chip Cookies, with Fudge Topping, Whipped Cream and a Cherry Strawberry Street Car Sundae: Strawberry and Vanilla Ice Cream, served in a Dipped Waffle Cup, with Strawberry Topping, Strawberry Crisp and Whipped Cream The Golden Horseshoe The Golden Horseshoe is another fan-favorite eatery in Disneyland park, and in addition to menu items like chicken tenders and fries, mini corn dogs, and fish & chips, they’re also serving up incredible ice cream. Grab an ice cream float (a nostalgic childhood favorite) or the cookie butter churro sundae (a more extravagant choice) whenever you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth this summer. Parks Blog Picks: Cookie Butter Churro Sundae: Cookie Dough Ice Cream with Cookie Butter Sauce, garnished with a Cinnamon Sugar Churro and Whipped Topping Ice Cream Float: Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Cherry or Barq’s Root Beer Flo’s V8 Cafe Nothing says summer like a simple chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry shake, and Flo’s V8 Cafe in Disney California Adventure is the dream destination when this is what you’re craving. The classic milkshakes come topped with crushed cookie pieces meant to look like road gravel, which perfectly plays into the Cars Land theming, and can be served in a souvenir glass if you want to bring the fun home. I love sipping on one of these as I’m taking in the sights and sounds of Radiator Springs. Parks Blog Pick: Flo’s Classic Shake: Vanilla, Chocolate, or Strawberry Shake topped with “Road Gravel” (also available served in a Cars Land souvenir Shake glass) Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop Some of the most decadent desserts at Disneyland can be found at Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, located within the bustling San Fransokyo Square in Disney California Adventure. Indulge in sundaes, shakes, and frozen beverages like cocoa and mochas, all made with Ghirardelli’s premium chocolate. I always make sure that whatever I order here is topped with their famous hot fudge – it is divine! Parks Blog Picks: World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae: Vanilla Ice Cream with Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, Diced Almonds, a Cherry, and one of our Milk Chocolate Caramel SQUARES Ocean Beach Sea Salt Caramel Sundae: Caramel sauce, Vanilla Ice Cream, Milk or Dark Chocolate Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, Sea Salt, and one of our Milk or Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel SQUARES Frozen Hot Cocoa: Hot Cocoa mix blended with Milk and Ice, topped with Whipped Cream and Mini Chocolate Chips Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream hosted by Dreyer’s Named after the charismatic character Clarabelle Cow, this classic spot in California Adventure is a must-visit when you’re in the mooood for a cold treat. Grab a scoop (or multiple) of your favorite ice cream flavor, pick your pop to top off an ice cream float, or customize a hand-dipped ice cream bar if you’re feeling extra creative. So many scrumptious selections are sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face. Parks Blog Picks: Ice Cream Float: Two Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream with choice of Beverage Hand-dipped Ice Cream Bars: Vanilla Bean Ice Cream Bar with choice of Chocolate Coating and Topping Cozy Cone Motel 2 – Ice Cream Cones Soft serve is a summertime staple, and one of the spots on property you can find it is at Cozy Cone Motel in Cars Land. Choose from chocolate or vanilla (or get the flavors swirled, which gives you the best of both worlds), and friendly cast members will serve it up in your choice of a cup or cone. The walk-up pickup windows make this treat easy to grab and go, so you can continue racing off and enjoying the day. Parks Blog Picks: Vanilla Soft Serve: served in a Cone or Cup Chocolate Soft Serve: served in a Cone or Cup Frozen Treats Looking for something a bit lighter than a creamy cup or cone? As the summer heats up, these frosty finds across the Disneyland Resort are perfect for an afternoon cool down or evening treat. Bengal Barbecue Bengal Barbecue is most commonly known for their flavorful meat and vegetable skewers, but did you know they have quite the collection of frozen drinks as well? Whether you like a boba-filled beverage, fresh fruity flavors, or selections that have a hint of spice, these slushies will keep you feeling full of summertime spirit and ready to take on your next daring Disneyland adventure. Parks Blog Picks: Thai Tea Slushy with Brown Sugar Spheres and Cold Foam Jungle Julep: refreshing Slush of Pineapple, Orange, Grape, and Lemon Juices Tropical Slushy: Passion Fruit, Orange, Guava and Lychee Syrup, with a Chile-Lime Rim The Tropical Hideaway For many, a day at Disneyland is not complete unless you’ve had a DOLE Whip, and The Tropical Hideaway in Adventureland is a necessary stop. Pineapple is the original when it comes to flavors, but the menu has since expanded to include offerings like peach and strawberry, all swirled to perfection. Order it in float form for an extra refreshing option, because you can’t go wrong with any of these tasty treats. Parks Blog Picks: DOLE Whip: Soft Serve with choice of DOLE Whip flavor Strawberry, Pineapple, or Peach DOLE Whip Float: DOLE Pineapple Juice topped with DOLE Whip Pineapple Soft Serve Kat Saka’s Kettle The Cold Brew Black Caf is definitely the most photographed Disneyland food item in my camera roll, and this beloved beverage was recently reimagined into slushy form with chocolate cookie crumbles and a chocolate sweet cream topper – a perfect warm weather treat! Maybe you need some early morning energy before flying off a thrilling journey with The Mandalorian and Grogu on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, or want a midday pick-me-up so you can explore all the small details throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and this drink will help you do it all. Parks Blog Pick: Black Caf Slushy: Cold Brew Slushy, Chocolate Cookie Sweet Cream, Crème-filled Chocolate Cookie Crumbles Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats My personal favorite cold treats at Disneyland can be found at Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats, located on the picturesque Pixar Pier in California Adventure. There are plenty of plant-based options if you’re searching for non-dairy desserts, with silky swirls of Lemon, Mango, Raspberry, and Blue Raspberry making a bold statement. Great for snapping a photo and posting on social media, but even better for helping you stay cool. Parks Blog Picks: New Orleans Mint Julep: A Refreshing Mint Drink with a hint of Lime Flavor New Orleans Mint Julep Float: Mango Sorbet topped with Mint Julep Troubadour Tavern As you’re making your way to the Fantasyland Theatre to play, party, and practice your dance moves with Bluey and Bingo, you’ll find Troubadour Tavern. Their menu of Bluey-themed treats includes delectable drinks, whether you’d like a rich coffee and chocolate combo or a more refreshing tropical taste. Either way, the cute colors and theatrical toppings will make these the star of your story when you share them on social. Parks Blog Picks: Mud Cake Cold Brew: Joffrey’s Coffee French Roast Cold Brew with a malted milk topper, fudge brownie bits, and sprinkles Lime Ice Block Drink: Pineapple limeade with coconut milk and watermelon ice block Café Daisy If you’re hungry and heading to Café Daisy to pick up a Pepperoni Pizza Flop-Over or some Daisy’s Goody-Goody Donuts, you can also find some of my favorite cold drinks to cool off with while you’re taking a breezy break in Toontown. With sweet syrups, tart zero sugar lemonade or tasty iced tea, and colorful gummy toppings, these are perfect picks for the littlest members of your party (or the young at heart). Parks Blog Picks: Picnic Time Watermelon Lemonade: Minute Maid Zero Sugar Lemonade with Watermelon Premium Syrup and Watermelon Gummies The Miss Daisy: Minute Maid Zero Sugar Lemonade and Blue Cotton Candy Syrup, topped with Blue Raspberry Gummy Rings Milk Stand Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a fully immersive land, and you’ll feel totally transported to another galaxy when sipping on Batuu’s legendary blue or pink frozen treat this summer. Located at the iconic Milk Stand, the base of this beverage is plant-based milk, so it is a lighter choice for those extra hot days when you’re looking for a chilled creation. Which fruity flavor are you taking sides with? Parks Blog Picks: Pink Milk: Plant-based Rice Milk blend with sweet and fruity characteristics Blue Milk: Plant-based blend of Coconut and Rice Milk with alluring fruity characteristics No matter where your Disneyland day takes you, there’s always a refreshing bite or beverage right around the corner to enjoy, and staying cool has never been more delicious. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is one of the best ways to enjoy the holiday season in Magic Kingdom and experience some of your favorite rides with much lower waits! Not only that, but you get the chance to see exclusive entertainment, meet rare characters, and enjoy free cookies and hot chocolate or apple cider throughout the night. What could be better than that?! Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party map Disney recently announced the dates for this year’s Christmas Party, and we learned everything that will be returning to the event, too. But, there’s one perk Disney confirmed is returning that we think stands above the rest — and it’s a total game-changer on party night! Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a separately ticketed event at Magic Kingdom that officially starts at 7 PM, but there’s one perk that will let you get your party started even earlier! Party guests can actually enter the parks as early as 4 PM, even though the party doesn’t start until a few hours later. While not all party offerings will be available until it starts at 7 PM, you can still use that time to ride attractions and even shop for party-exclusive merchandise! Welcome to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! This year’s party is taking place on the following nights: November 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 24, 25, 27, 29 December 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 20, 22 Let’s gooo! There is SO much to see and do at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, including a lot of exclusive party entertainment. Disney has confirmed that Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks will return this year. This fireworks display includes projections, special effects, fireworks, and more. Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade will also return to the party this year, first at 8:30 P.M. and again at 11 P.M. Pro tip: check out the second parade because it’s usually less crowded than the first. Note that Disney has not confirmed these parade times, but these are the times the parades have been held in the past. Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade You’ll also want to keep your eyes peeled for Disney characters in holiday outfits. You’ll even see rare characters that aren’t usually out in the parks during the day. Disney has not yet confirmed a full list of characters appearing at this year’s party, but you’ll find them on the party map or My Disney Experience app. Characters in the Christmas parade Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party also has FREE cookies and drinks (usually hot cocoa and apple cider). You’ll find these freebies at select quick service restaurants throughout the park (they’ll be marked on your party map, and each location will have a giant candy cane inflatable in front). Frosted Chocolate Chip Cookie You’ll also be able to purchase exclusive food and drinks at the party at select locations. Disney hasn’t revealed the menus yet, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for those to share with you when they’re available. Check out everything returning to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year right here! We’re past the halfway point of 2026, and a lot has already happened at the Disney Parks! As summer ramps up, more announcements have piled in, and big changes are on the horizon. Disney’s BoardWalk Construction Summer fun has started at the Disney Parks, and we recently got tons of HUGE holiday season updates for both coasts! However, we can’t stop thinking about one announcement that revealed a major transformation coming to Disney’s BoardWalk! It was recently announced that new shopping and dining opportunities are coming to Disney’s BoardWalk for Disney World fans to enjoy! Disney’s BoardWalk Inn The Hurly-Burly lounge, according to Disney, will “welcome guests for fun-filled afternoons and glamorous evenings inside a historic seaside theatre with a vibrant BoardWalk story that spans over a century.” This family-friendly location will have interactive activities and trivia, but at night will turn into a 21+ lounge and will feature live music and coastal-inspired cocktails that can be accompanied by some tasty light bites. As of right now, we’re speculating that this latest offering will be located at the old Jellyrolls location. ©Disney Additionally, Disney also revealed that Basin will open in late 2026 and will offer a curated collection of handcrafted products such as natural soaps, botanical bath salts, body butters, lip salves, bath bombs, and shampoo and conditioner bars. ©Disney This interactive store will also feature a custom bath tea blending counter, a make-your-own-soap station, and a soap embossing press for a personalized finishing touch. ©Disney The BoardWalk is adding another quick-service restaurant soon! Right now, you’ll find spots like the Pizza Window, the BoardWalk Deli, and Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs — but Disney teased something new coming to the area. BoardWalk Snack Stand We don’t quite know the specifics just yet, but more information should be revealed later this summer. Disney’s BoardWalk With the D23 fan expo coming up soon, it’s a safe bet to assume even bigger news is coming shortly. Disney World just dropped a TON of details about the holiday season around the parks and hotels this year, and we’re SO excited for Disney to deck the halls once again. Animal Kingdom Lodge at Christmas While we can’t wait to experience Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Jollywood Nights, the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays, and more, there is one thing we’re a little concerned about. Disney has recently been restricting travel to its resorts for non-hotel guests, and now, it looks like those restrictions may get even stricter during the holiday season. This past spring, Disney Springs started a new rule where guests using the bus system had to have a dining or hotel reservation to visit the resort they were going to. It was in place during a holiday weekend, likely to control the crowds and limit how many guests were able to use the free transportation and visit the hotels. Disney Springs Transportation Rule However, that rule is coming back, and Cast Members have confirmed that it is permanent. While transportation will still be available from Disney Springs, you will need to show proof to be able to get on the Disney buses or boats to resorts. You can show a hotel or restaurant reservation, but if you’re just coming to check out the resorts, you might run into some issues. Blockades put up When Disney World announced its holiday offerings for 2026, the announcements came with some interesting language that makes us think these rules are about to become stricter — and not just for those using Disney World transportation. In the announcements, Disney said, “For guests staying at the resorts or for those with valid dining reservations, the Disney Resorts Collection offers a wide array of bright and merry holiday decor.” This sounds like only those staying at the hotels or those with dining reservations will be able to explore the resorts and see their holiday decor. Grand Floridian Christmas Tree Disney also said, “With more than 25 hotels to choose from in the Disney Resorts Collection, there are plenty of ways to make this holiday season special for you and your loved ones while staying or dining with us.” The language that says “while staying or dining with us” supports our theory that Disney will be even further limiting visits for non-hotel guests or those with dining reservations. Polynesian at Christmas And then, there was the devastating news that one of the most popular holiday traditions at the Grand Floridian Resort has been permanently retired. We confirmed that the gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will not be returning. The amazing house did not return for the 2025 season due to construction throughout the resort, specifically in the lobby, where they installed The Perch, a birdcage bar, but it has been confirmed that the gingerbread house is gone for good. 2024 Grand Floridian Gingerbread House While Disney didn’t share a reason for this controversial change, many fans are speculating that it has to do with just how popular the gingerbread house has become in recent years. Folks without reservations at the Grand Floridian would flock to the resort to see the display and take in the holiday decor, creating a bit of chaos in the process and making it harder for hotel guests to enjoy it. One commenter on our Instagram post about the changes said, “I am sad for everyone that loves it, including me, but as someone that stays there at Christmas time, last year it was nice not having to fight the crowds in the lobby. I’m willing to do it for the house, but I can’t lie, it was beautiful and peaceful.” Gingerbread crowds Another person said, “I think Disney is pushing out non-staying guests out of their resorts little by little. 1st the buses and boats…next…But I get it, the price tags are really high, and when I stayed at GF last year, the absolute chaos of the crowds in the lobby made it not as dreamy as I wished for.” Someone else commented, “This confirms that resort hopping is officially over. Wasn’t planning on canceling my AP when it’s time to renew, but now I am.” Resort boat launches From what Disney has said, it sounds like there will be even more restrictions at the Disney World hotels moving forward. The days of resort hopping may be over, but Disney hasn’t officially come out and said it. We’re sad if this is the case, because it’s one of our favorite things to do at Disney World, but we also understand wanting to make the Disney hotel experience better for those people who are staying there. Either way, we’ll be sure to update you with any official changes. Contemporary Resort Christmas tree We’ll be on the lookout for more details about the holiday season at Disney World and any changes at the resorts. There are construction projects happening all over Disney World, but it seems like most of the construction is happening in Magic Kingdom. Frontierland is getting a new Cars-themed expansion, while a new Villains land is going behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (which was also under construction until recently). Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin also recently got a huge update. Minnie Mouse at Pete’s Silly Sideshow Over in Fantasyland, Pete’s Silly Sideshow closed in January for some major refurbishments. Well, now, after months of being closed, the attraction will finally reopen on June 27th. Pete’s Silly Sideshow is a character meet and greet where you can meet some of Disney’s most iconic characters dressed as circus performers. The meet and greet includes Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, and Goofy. So while the area was under construction, the characters were temporarily moved outside around Storybook Circus. It’s Minnie and Goofy! However, now that Pete’s Silly Sideshow is set to reopen on June 27th, you’ll be able to meet the characters in their usual spots there. Pete’s Silly Sideshow The construction focused on replacing the tent covering on the area, and now, it seems that the refurbishment is complete. A closed Pete’s Silly Sideshow When Pete’s Silly Sideshow reopens, you’ll be able to meet characters there from 10 AM to 7 PM. Note that these hours may change, so check the My Disney Experience app before you visit Magic Kingdom if this character meet and greet is a priority for you and your group. We’ll keep an eye out for more reopenings in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Changes are happening across all four parks in Disney World right now, with three out of the four getting entirely new lands. La Poutinerie While EPCOT is the only park not getting a new land, that doesn’t mean there’s no construction happening there — far from it, in fact! One of the new additions we’ve really been looking forward to is the new La Poutinerie spot, located at the former Refreshment Port spot. The new restaurant officially opens on July 1st, and signage has just gone up! This is the first time we’ve officially seen signage for this new spot, and it makes us more confident that it will be ready to officially open on July 1st. La Poutinerie is sponsored by Air Canada, which is also clearly displayed on the signs. The July 1st opening is perfect, as that’s when Canada Day is celebrated — what better way to celebrate than with poutine? We can’t wait! La Poutinerie will offer “a Canadian classic with a twist,” and based on the sneak peek we’ve gotten at the menu, it’s looking like it’s getting ready to deliver on that promise. So far, we know that the menu will consist of: Québec: L’Authentique ($10.99): Made with French fries, cheese curds, and brown gravy ©Disney Montréal: Viande Fumée ($12.49): French fries and cheese curds with smoked meat, pickles, and mustard gravy ©Disney Spiced Apple Slushy ($6.29): Frozen blend of ginger beer, lime, and spiced apple flavors ©Disney Spiced Apple Mule ($14.50): Frozen blend of ginger beer, lime, and spiced apple flavors with added Iceberg Canadian Vodka Unibroue La Fin du Monde Belgian-style Tripel Ale ($14) Molson Canadian Lager ($10.75) Domaine Ste. Michelle Sparkling Brut ($7.50) Jackson-Triggs Reserve Red Blend ($12) La Poutinerie Concept Art ©Disney We’re so looking forward to this spot opening, and hope that means it’ll be part of the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival when it opens on August 27th. We’re halfway to the ho-ho-holidays, and I can already hear the silver bells ringing, see the snowflakes falling, and imagine myself settling in by the fire to watch my favorite festive films! A highlight of the holidays for many is always doing some seasonal shopping, whether you’re gifting goodies to people on your list or grabbing gear to wear on your next Disney Parks day, and we have the first sneak peek at what’s to come. Today, we’re revealing new items arriving for the 2026 holiday celebrations at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and on Disney Store, because it’s never too early to start getting into the holiday spirit. Are you ready to sleigh the season? Let’s go! Festive Apparel If you’re someone who conveniently forgets to bring a sweatshirt with you to the parks so you have an excuse to buy one once the sun sets, these cozy creations are for you. All will be available at both Disneyland and Disney World with select items on DisneyStore.com, so you can select the park logo of your choice. The Peppermint Pull Over Hoodie has a sweet and simple peppermint design, while the Holiday Lights Zip Up Hoodie boasts front and back artwork complete with multicolored string lights and a Santa hat. I’m most excited about the Holiday Crewneck, which has a wraparound design showcasing Mickey and Friends amongst a snowy scene. Jolly Jewelry and Accessories Anyone who loves getting dressed up for a Disney Parks day knows the magic is in the details, and you can make a snow-stopping statement with new jewelry and accessories. Create the perfect holiday ear stack with the Snowflake Mickey Mouse Earrings, Holiday Earrings, or the shimmering Holiday Earring Set. My personal favorite? The Gingerbread Earrings and Bracelet, which have delightful dangling gingerbread cookies, clad in their own Mickey Mouse ear hats and headbands alongside a candy cane, snowflake, and ornament accent. If jewelry isn’t your style, there are still lots of other ways to liven up your holiday look. The Candy Cane Ear Headband has that classic color scheme of red and green, while the Holiday Lights Baseball Hat is adorned with the Disneyland or Disney World logo and a string of vivid lights. And the popular Create Your Own Headbands will soon have festive Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, and Tigger plush to choose from. Don’t forget to grab the Mickey Mouse and Family Christmas Tote to hold all of your goodies as you’re shopping, sipping cocoa with your pals, or slipping into some ice skates. Merry Ornaments and Home Decor There’s nothing like the first day of the holiday season spent decking the halls with lots of dazzling decorations, from baubles on the tree and stockings on the mantle to glittering lights illuminating your home. Ornaments in particular are always one of my favorite elements, commemorating standout moments or sentimental symbols, and there are plenty to pick from this year! If you want something traditional, ornaments with beloved characters, classic color palettes, and nostalgic holiday motifs will also be available. For another small sprinkle of holiday magic, you can cuddle up with the Mickey Mouse and Family Christmas Throw! Made from a dreamy material meant to keep you warm on those chilly winter nights, the blanket shows Mickey and Friends enjoying Disney Parks festivities. Enchanting Bag Charms, Pins, and Souvenirs Keepsakes and collectibles are a hallmark of the holiday season, and there are plenty of souvenirs that you can bring home with you to display or that will make great stocking stuffers. Bag charms and keychains continue to be fan-favorite items, and the Toy Soldier Mickey or Disney Holiday Headband are stunning selections to complete your look. I know I will definitely be purchasing these as a way of dressing up my everyday bags to add that extra bit of frosty fun and flair. If you want to show off your holiday spirit in other ways, you can also grab the Holiday Magnets (great for your car, fridge, and even cruise ship door), or the Santa Mickey Mouse Window Cling to spread some cheer. I know we have some pin collectors reading this right now, and you’re in luck because there are plenty of new pins releasing for the holidays. The first one we can give you a sneak peek at is the Disney Hanukkah Trading Pin, a vibrant piece perfect for celebrating the Festival of Lights. We can’t wait to see what other treasures there are to discover in the full Disney Hanukkah Collection, coming later this season! Sneak Peek at the Disney Pastel Holiday Collection I can already tell that this Pastel Holiday Collection is going to be a huge hit, with soft shades of pink and green serving as a more unique color scheme. The Pastel Holiday Spirit Jerseys and Pastel Holiday Baseball Hat are a magical match made in heaven for those who like to coordinate their clothing pieces. And you can top off your ‘fit with the Mickey Mouse wreath Pastel Holiday Bag Charm – how precious! Stay tuned for the reveal of the entire collection here on Disney Parks Blog. More Magic with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Merch For those attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the after-hours separately ticketed event at Walt Disney World, exclusive merchandise awaits. Do NOT count on these outdated tips while planning your Disney World vacation! Pirates of the Caribbean Since its introduction in 2024, Disney World’s Lightning Lane service has allowed guests to bypass standby lines for select attractions through an extra purchase made on the My Disney Experience app. Over the years, there have been some popular tips and strategies for how to get the most out of your Lightning Lane experience. But if you’ve heard either of these two Lightning Lane tips, beware that they DO NOT work anymore! Disney World’s Lightning Lane services allow guests to skip the standby lines at select attractions and use the shorter Lightning Lanes instead. There are three different options available — Lightning Lane Multi Pass (allows for Lightning Lane selections at multiple select attractions), Lightning Lane Single Pass (one-time Lightning Lane access to an individual, in-demand attraction), and Lightning Lane Premier Pass (one-time entry into EVERY Lightning Lane entry in a given park for one price). Kilimanjaro Safaris We’ve got a deep dive into everything you need to know about Lightning Lanes if you’re ready to get into alllll of the details about what each of the options includes and how to use them. But for now, the important thing to note is that these two outdated tips no longer work, no matter which of the three Lightning Lane services you may choose to get! Get a “Free” Lightning Lane for Pirates of the Caribbean First up, we’ve got a Lightning Lane tip that was so short-lived, it might not have even come up on your radar! In April 2026, Disney World introduced a perk that allowed guests to get a FREE Lightning Lane for Pirates of the Caribbean at Magic Kingdom. Lightning Lane Entrance at Pirates of the Caribbean When it was (briefly) offered, guests could cash in on the free Lightning Lane by participating in Pirate Adventure: Treasure of the Seven Seas, the interactive scavenger hunt in Adventureland. After a guest completed three of the five maps in the scavenger hunt, they could bring them back to the Pirate Adventure desk and redeem them for a free Lightning Lane for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Three of the maps Way back in the day, there was a similar perk where guests could get a free Pirates of the Caribbean FastPass for completing the activity, but when they went away, the scavenger hunt was only for bragging rights. And we’ve come full circle again! After just three days of offering a free Pirates of the Caribbean Lightning Lane for participating in Pirate Adventure, Disney removed the perk, so the treasure is once again just bragging rights (and the fun you have along the way, of course). Pirate Adventure Map Even though the removal of the free Lightning Lane might be a bummer, there are some silver linings here! First, you can still participate in the Pirate Adventure scavenger hunt if you’re looking for a unique, free activity around Magic Kingdom, you just won’t get the Pirates of the Caribbean Lightning Lane “prize” for it. Using the map Also, Pirates of the Caribbean tends to be in the middle of the pack when it comes to average Magic Kingdom wait times. While lines for some of the most popular rides like TRON Lightcycle/Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Peter Pan’s Flight are often consistently long from park open until close, it’s not uncommon to see the wait for Pirates of the Caribbean dip to 20 minutes or less at various points throughout the day, outside of ultra busy times like the holiday season and Spring Break. Pirates of the Caribbean Of course, if you plan to purchase the Lightning Lane Multi Pass service anyway, you could choose to make a Lightning Lane for Pirates of the Caribbean now that the free one is no longer up for grabs. Pirates of the Caribbean But if you either aren’t buying Lightning Lane access or you just prefer to prioritize other attractions for your selections, you should still be able to ride Pirates of the Caribbean without too painfully long a line by keeping an eye on the wait times in the My Disney Experience app. Using Lightning Lanes to Meet More Characters In the early days of the Lightning Lane service, many of the popular character meet-and-greets around the parks were included as eligible Lightning Lane attractions. Some of the lines to meet the characters can rack up pretty hefty wait times, so this was a big plus for guests who had character interactions at the top of their vacation priority list. Princess Lightning Lane in 2022 But if you had planned to use Lightning Lane to help you maximize the number of characters you can meet (and minimize the time in line to do so), heads up — last year, Disney World removed the character meet-and-greets from the list of Lightning Lane attractions, so all guests have to wait in standby lines to meet them now. Daisy and Donald Of course, things could change in the future, but for now, you’ll only find rides and shows available for your Lightning Lane selections, so if you were banking on using the service primarily for character meet-and-greets, you might be better off using that money elsewhere on your trip. Pluto! For character-focused guests, you could redirect that part of your budget towards character dining experiences instead. There are over a dozen character meal locations around Disney World, each of which allows you to meet a select group of characters as they stop by your table throughout the meal. It’s a solid alternative if you’re looking for a way to meet multiple characters without waiting in line! Daisy at Chef Mickey’s Just be sure to make an Advance Dining Reservation if you plan to go this route, since character meals can fill up FAST! All aboard for a FULL stateroom tour from our recent Disney Cruise Line sailing! The Disney Fantasy We recently sailed on the Disney Fantasy, which officially joined the Disney Cruise Line fleet back in 2012. Our days were PACKED with tons of amazing experiences, like live performances, games, and, of course, a ride on the AquaDuck. Plus, our sailing included a Pixar Day at Sea, which meant even more Pixar-themed fun, like characters, music, and specialty food! But, as exciting as all the activities are, we know that it can be just as important to know what you can expect to come back to after a full day of fun. That’s why we’re taking you on a FULL TOUR of our stateroom on the Disney Fantasy! On our Disney Fantasy cruise, we stayed in a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, which can sleep three to four guests. Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah Since our sailing included a Pixar Day at Sea, we got the Pixar room decor package, which was offered for purchase separately. It included tons of fun Pixar-themed keepsakes, which you get to take home at the end of the cruise! Pixar Day at Sea Keepsakes! The package included bedclothes, like a bed runner and pillowcases… Pixar Pillowcases …plus Pixar decor for the rest of the room! Since you get to keep everything included, an add-on package like this can double as both a fun way to add even more character to the room and an extra souvenir at the end of the trip. Pixar Decor Now, let’s look at all of the standard features of the room! The Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom includes a queen bed that sleeps two people. Queen Bed Plus, the couch can be converted to a single sofa bed. Stateroom Couch Here’s what it looks like when converted to a sofa bed! With the queen and sofa bed, our room slept three people, but there are some staterooms that sleep four people, which also have a pull-down bed. Sofa Bed The room has a 2-door “split bathroom” with a vanity, sink, and toilet on one side… Bathroom …and a vanity, sink, shower, and combination tub/shower on the other side. Bathrooms are infamously tiny on most cruise lines, so having a split bathroom AND a full tub is a pretty big deal! The Other Side of the Split Bathroom The doors to the bathroom are in the hallway right inside the stateroom door, and there are closets on the opposite side. Hallway The closets are stocked with hangers, and that’s also where you’ll find life vests and a safe for storing valuables. Closet As far as additional places to unpack your clothes, there are drawers and extra shelf space across from the bed. Drawers There are drawers and more shelves surrounding the desk, too, which is also where you’ll find the stateroom TV and a large mirror. Desk Pull out the drawer on the top of the desk for postcards, stationery, and safety information! Desk Drawer The desk also houses the room’s mini-fridge, hidden behind the door on the left-hand side. Mini-Fridge And if you need a place to store your suitcases after you’ve unpacked, there’s space under the bed to slide your luggage. Storage Space The room is decorated with ocean-themed touches, including artwork that features Disney Cruise Line ships and nautical flags. Artwork in the Room There are also cruise ships dotting the world map lampshades on the bedside lamps. And, of course, lots of not-so-hidden Mickeys lining the bottom! Lampshade Details The verandah doors on the far side of the room lead out to a private balcony with two chairs and a small table, so you can relax and enjoy the ocean views! Verandah Doors Can’t beat sitting on a private verandah with a drink in hand! Verandah Staterooms on cruise ships are usually notoriously small, so we were impressed with the amount of space this room has, especially the bathroom and storage/counter space. We also loved all the nautical touches throughout the room, which perfectly set the tone for a sailing adventure. Castaway Cay looks simple at first glance. You get off the ship, see the water, find a chair, and call it a day. And you know what? That version works. No notes. Relax on a beach! But spend a little more time here—maybe come back on another cruise—and you start noticing that the island quietly rewards curiosity. There are better spots to sit, smarter ways to move around, and little detours that can turn a good beach day into a great one. The guests who seem to have it all figured out are not necessarily doing more. They just know where to go, when to go there, and how to avoid turning their relaxing island day into a sweaty mission for shade, lunch, and one available inner tube. Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island in The Bahamas, and yes, it is absolutely a “plop in a chair and do nothing” kind of place if that’s your vacation goal. Respect. We salute that with a frozen drink in hand. But if you want to make your Castaway day feel less like “we followed the crowd” and more like “we cracked the island code,” these are the secrets repeat Disney cruisers tend to learn the hard way. The First Beach Chair Is Not Always the Best Beach Chair This is the classic rookie move. You get off the ship, walk toward Castaway Family Beach, see rows of chairs, and think, “Perfect. We made it. Drop everything.” And sometimes that works! The first stretches of family beach are convenient, especially if you have little kids, a stroller, bags, goggles, sand toys, and the burden of being the person who remembered sunscreen. Disney Dream at Castaway Cay But Castaway Cay rewards people who keep walking just a little farther. The farther sections of Castaway Family Beach can feel less intense, especially earlier in the day before everyone fully disperses. If your crew is willing to take the tram or continue down the path, you may find an area that feels a little calmer, a little less “everyone from Deck 9 is suddenly my neighbor,” and a little more vacation-y. Castaway Cay This is especially useful if you do not need to be right next to the first restroom, first buffet, first bar, first everything. Convenience is great, but sometimes it comes with the distinct vibe of being on an overcrowded bus. Also, do not underestimate the power of choosing a chair with a plan. Where is the shade going to be later? Are you near the water but not directly in the traffic lane? Are you close enough to food that you will not become malnourished by lunchtime? These are not small questions. These are the pillars of island civilization. RECIPE: Make 4 Tropical Drinks Straight from Disney’s Castaway Cay! The Bike Trail Is Quietly One of the Best Things on the Island Castaway Cay is very good at distracting you with water. That is fair. The water is showing off. But one of the best repeat-cruiser secrets is that the bike path gives you a completely different version of the island. It is quieter, breezier in spots, and a lovely break from the beach-chair negotiations happening elsewhere. Castaway Cay You can rent bikes by the hour and pedal around the island, including areas most guests skip because they are too busy trying to decide if they should snorkel before or after lunch. The ride is not trying to become your personal Tour de France. It is a gentle, very manageable way to see more of Castaway Cay without committing to a full excursion or wringing out your soul in the Bahamian heat. One of the big reasons to do it is the Observation Tower. Climb up, catch your breath, and suddenly you get that “well, aren’t we fancy” view of the island and your Disney Cruise Line ship docked nearby. It is a great photo stop, and it gives you a better sense of how much of Castaway Cay you are not seeing when you stay planted in one beach chair all day. Bike rentals on Castaway Cay Sometimes a tiny bit of movement makes the next round of BBQ and soft serve feel more earned. Not required. Earned. Bring water. Go earlier if the day is hot. Wear shoes that can handle a little pedaling. And maybe do this before your beach nap, not after, when your body has spiritually become a pool float. Everything That’s Included With Your Disney Cruise Serenity Bay Is Not Just “The Adult Beach” First-time cruisers hear “Serenity Bay” and file it away as “that adult-only beach I may or may not have time for.” Third-cruise people know better. Serenity Bay is not just the adults-only section. It is a full mood shift. It is the part of the island where the volume knob gets turned down, the beach stretches out, and your brain finally stops making packing lists. Castaway Cay Guests 18 and older can head over there for a quieter beach experience, and it can feel wonderfully removed from the more energetic family areas. That does not mean it is abandoned, and it does not mean you will be alone like a shipwrecked poet with SPF 50. But it is usually a more peaceful setting, especially if you want to swim, read, nap, stare at the horizon, or have a frozen drink without hearing someone negotiate an emotional snack crisis with a toddler. There is also food over there, which matters. A lot. Nobody wants to reach peak relaxation and then realize lunch requires a pilgrimage. Adult-only beach at Castaway Cay If you are cruising without kids, Serenity Bay should be high on your list. If you are cruising with kids, it may still be worth discussing whether the children’s programming gives the adults in your party a little island time of their own. Not every family will want to split up on Castaway Cay, and that is fine. But for some parents, a little Serenity Bay window can feel like finding an extra dessert hidden behind the buffet sneeze guard. A beautiful thing. A sacred thing. A thing we do not question too loudly. Which Cruise Line Private Island Is the BEST? The Post Office Is the Sweetest Souvenir Nobody Plans For The Castaway Cay Post Office is one of those tiny Disney Cruise Line details that feels almost too charming to be real. It is located near the dock, which means a lot of guests walk right by it on their way to the beach, fully distracted by the promise of ocean and lunch. But repeat cruisers know it can be one of the most memorable little stops of the day. Disney Magic at Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Cay You can send mail from Castaway Cay and, get that special island postmark. The pro move is to write a postcard to yourself. Not to your neighbor. Not to your cousin who still owes you money from 2017. Yourself. Write down one tiny thing from the trip you do not want to forget. Maybe it is the way the ship looked from the sand. Maybe it is your kid losing their mind over a character in beach gear. Maybe it is the exact frozen drink that convinced you all your problems were land-based. Then mail it. Will it arrive quickly? Please. This is island mail, not Lightning Lane. It may take a while, and that is part of the weird little joy of it. Weeks later, when your cruise has turned into laundry and credit card statements, this postcard may show up like a tiny sunbeam with a stamp. ©Disney Check current availability and postage details while on board, because operations can vary. But if the timing works out, this is one of the most low-effort, high-charm souvenirs on the whole island. Pelican Plunge Gets the Hype, But the Small Stuff Saves the Day Pelican Plunge is fun, and yes, the waterslides absolutely deserve attention. It is one of the big, obvious Castaway Cay landmarks for a reason. But by the third cruise, you start realizing that some of the best island moments come from the smaller spots that do not scream for your attention. In Da Shade Game Pavilion is exactly the kind of place families forget to appreciate until everyone is hot, sandy, and one minor inconvenience away from becoming a cautionary tale. It gives kids a break from the beach without sending everyone back to the ship. Sports Beach is another easy win if your crew wants volleyball, tetherball, or a little movement that does not involve carrying five wet towels and someone else’s abandoned goggles. Scuttle’s Cove can be a big deal for families, too, since it gives kids a supervised play area with Disney Youth Activities counselors. That can open up options for parents who want a quieter stretch of island time, or for kids who just need a change from the beach. And then there are the little food and drink detours. Olaf’s Summertime Freeze is worth remembering when the sun starts acting personally offended by your existence. The shops are great for Castaway Cay-specific souvenirs, especially if you want something that says “yes, I was here” without buying another generic cruise shirt you will sleep in for eight years. The secret is not that Castaway Cay has hidden tunnels or some mysterious underground Mickey lounge. Though, Disney, if you are reading this, we would accept one. The secret is that the island is full of smaller choices that can rescue your day before anyone hits the meltdown stage. So fun! You do not have to do everything. In fact, you probably should not. But you should know what is available so you can pivot when the beach stops being peaceful and starts being a very sandy group project. Your Best Castaway Day Might Start Before You Leave the Ship Here is the secret nobody likes because it requires a little discipline: your Castaway Cay day gets better when you make a loose plan before your feet hit the dock. Not a spreadsheet. We are not assigning laminated tabs to a beach day. Let us remain human. But you should know your top priority. Are you a beach-chair-and-do-nothing family? Great. Get off early, claim your spot, and live your best lizard-on-a-rock life. Do you want bikes? Do that before the afternoon heat gets rude. Do you want Serenity Bay? Head there before the day gets away from you. Do you want photos with characters in island outfits? Check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app so you are not wandering around later asking, “Did we miss Captain Mickey?” with panic in your eyes. Do you want to mail a postcard? Handle it before everyone is tired and moving back toward the ship in one big sun-drunk parade. Castaway Cay The guests who seem the most relaxed on Castaway Cay are not always the ones who did the most. They are usually the ones who picked what mattered, left room for wandering, and did not try to force the island into a military operation with flip-flops. That is the real third-cruise energy. Know the options. Choose your favorites. Leave room for soft serve. This Mistake Could Ruin Your Disney Cruise (and It’s SO Easy to Make) Final Sprinkle Castaway Cay is one of those Disney places that seems simple on your first visit. Beach. Chair. Lunch. Water. Done. And that version is still pretty great. But the more you visit, the more you realize the island has all these little pockets of charm hiding just off the obvious path. The bike trail. The Observation Tower. The Post Office. The farther beach areas. The quieter adult escape. The small family-friendly stops that save the day when everyone needs something other than “more sand.” Castaway Cay So on your next Disney cruise, do not just follow the crowd to the first available chair and call it done. Walk a little farther. Send the postcard. Rent the bike. Find the shade. Let the island show off a little. And keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney Cruise Line tips, Castaway Cay secrets, and the kind of vacation advice that might save you from making your beach day harder than it needs to be. 7 Things That Surprised Me on My Disney Cruise as a Former Cast Member More Castaway Cay Tips & News Five Secrets Nobody Knows About Castaway Cay Until Their Third Disney CruiseWhich Cruise Line Private Island Is the BEST?Disney Destiny vs. Disney Treasure: Which Cruise Ship Has Better Destinations?SPOTTED: Mysterious Construction Is Happening on Disney’s Private Island The Best Times To Go on a Disney Cruise in 2025 Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Uhm what? 2023 Gingerbread House Disney World just made a holiday announcement that we’re not too sure about. It’s certainly the end of an era as we say goodbye to one of our favorite parts of the holiday season. The gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will not be returning. The amazing house did not return for the 2025 season due to construction throughout the resort, specifically in the lobby, where they installed The Perch, a birdcage bar. Grand Floridian 2024 The house has been around for well… as long as we can remember! It started in 1999, and we have loved coming every year. Instead of one big gingerbread house in the lobby, the hotel will feature a few small ones throughout the resort, made by Disney’s culinary team. 2024 Gingerbread House at Grand Floridian For 2025, we weren’t necessarily shocked that we didn’t get the gingerbread house. Construction was everywhere, and even though it finished before the holidays, we understand that large gingerbread houses can take time to build, especially since they require a lot of assembly right in the lobby. Construction in October 2025 Did we think this was just a temporary change for 2025? We sure did! This news comes as a surprise since this is a long-loved tradition and one of our favorite stops to grab snacks like the gingerbread shingles. We have found these at other resorts, but it was our favorite to grab them at the Grand Floridian. Gingerbread shingles We haven’t heard any news about other gingerbread houses, so we assume everything is still okay on that end, including the iconic gingerbread carousel… Disney’s Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel …and castle. Gingerbread display at the Contemporary Resort There are quite a few displays throughout other resorts, and we assume the massive Christmas tree will still be at the Grand Floridian since it was there in 2025. 2025 In the meantime, make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news you need to know before planning your next Disney World vacation.
