  1. This summer is a GREAT time to visit Disney World (okay, except for the HEAT…)! EPCOT From May 27th through September 1st, you can expect to see DJ-fueled dance parties, surprise character experiences, fun activities, and nonstop summer vibes. To make way for Cool Kid Summer, CommuniCore Hall at EPCOT will be closing — which means this EPCOT festival booth has to CHANGE. Disney has announced that to make way for DJ Goofy’s dance party at EPCOT, CommuniCore Hall will temporarily close starting May 12th as it is transformed — which means the Farmers Feast festival booth currently located inside will need to be relocated! 2025 Farmers Feast Booth Inside CommuniCore Hall Starting on May 12th, you can find Farmers Feast goodies at the Florida Fresh booth, located just outside CommuniCore Hall, instead. 2025 Booth The DJ Goofy dance party kicks off inside CommuniCore Hall on May 27th, so we expect the Farmer’s Feast menu items to be available at Florida Fresh for the remainder of the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival, ending on June 2nd. Cool Kid Summer is bringing a TON of fun to the parks. In Magic Kingdom, Storybook Circus and Tomorrowland will have new “kid zones” as well. These will include character interactions (hello, Stitch!), activities, and more reasons to slow down and let your kids run around a bit. Stitch at Tomorrowland It all officially kicks off on May 27th, which is also when The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After will both officially debut at Hollywood Studios! ©Disney There’s a LOT happening at Disney World this summer! CommuniCore Hall But don’t worry, CommuniCore Plaza and the Mickey & Friends meet and greet will still be open during this time. And, it sounds like the Farmer’s Feast Flower and Garden Festival booth — which is currently inside CommuniCore Hall — might end up being combined with the Florida Fresh booth located just outside the hall while this transformation is taking place. 2025 Farmers Feast Booth Inside CommuniCore Hall In Magic Kingdom, Storybook Circus and Tomorrowland will have new “kid zones” as well. 6. We’ve had the chance to explore Epic Universe quite a bit thanks to multiple previews, but that doesn’t mean we’re not still STOKED about the official grand opening! Epic Universe The park is officially opening on May 22nd, and we’re expecting some serious fanfare to celebrate the occasion. In fact, a new permit shows just that! Epic Universe is currently in its preview and technical rehearsal stage, but that all ends on May 22nd, 2025, when the park officially opens! And, according to a new permit filed with Orange County, it’s going to be quite the spectacle. We’re talking pyrotechnics, DRONES, and celebrity guests, people!! The permit is for backstage preparation and staging operations in an area behind the Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe, and shows the locations of tents, trailers, and other things set up for the event. Epic Universe Permit It looks like the TODAY Show will also be in attendance — a home base area has been set up for things like unloading gear, food & beverages, and production. According to the permit, Arena Americas is setting up the tents — they’ve worked on other Universal events in the past, like Halloween Horror Nights. TODAY Show Permit documents show that the tents will be placed from May 1st to May 30th and are referred to as EPIC Grand Opening Support Tents in another document. Permit document There will also be celebrity trailers in “Talent Trailer City” between May 18th and May 22nd, which hopefully means we can expect to see some familiar faces at the grand opening! Talent Trailer City A Media Center will be set up in the large, semi-permanent tent structure located near Stardust Racers, which has been marked for training and special events as well. We also spotted a Legend on the permit that indicates outlines for a “Pyro Launch and Fallout Zones” along with a “Drone Zone.” Of course, Universal has not announced anything for the grand opening officially, but it’s possible we could see a drone show AND fireworks! Drone Zone!!! We’ll be on the lookout for additional information about Epic Universe’s official opening. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Universal and theme park news! 8. Have you ever thought about all of the Disney World rooms you would stay in if money weren’t a factor? Come with me as we daydream about the fanciest rooms in Disney World! Disney’s Yacht Club Resort There are a lot of ways to make your Disney World vacation feel extra fancy. If I had endless funds, there are a few things that immediately come to mind, including booking a VIP Tour, a private fireworks cruise, and dinner at the chef’s table at Victoria & Albert’s. Of course, we have to talk about the fanciest hotel rooms at Disney World! 1. The Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge The Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort are a fun experience that is truly one of a kind on Disney World property. The cabins feature two bedrooms that overlook the Bay Lake waterfront, a full kitchen, a private hot tub, and enough accommodations to sleep eight! ©Disney It also features your own personal hot tub. Prices for this location range from $2500 to $4000. It’s also worth noting that Copper Creek is a DVC property, but anyone can stay there! ©Disney 2. Two-bedroom Room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Over at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, there are several fancy rooms, but the two-bedroom room with club-level access is one of my favorites. It sleeps 6 adults, and the decor in this room is stunning. You also get the great perks of club level, including food and drinks. ©Disney There is a living room with two bedrooms, and just look at this theme park view of Magic Kingdom. Just imagine watching the fireworks from this window every night — a girl can dream. This room will start at $2700 a night and will increase from there depending on the season. ©Disney 3. Theme Park View 1 Bedroom Suite at Disney’s Contemporary Resort The 1-bedroom suite with a theme park view at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is making my list. This luxurious room sleeps 6 adults and includes club-level access as well as a small fridge, coffee and tea station, patio or balcony, and personalized guest services. ©Disney While the whole suite has theming from Pixar’s Incredibles film. But the real treat here is the bedroom with Eda Mode theming. The magazine covers of Eda are framed on the wall, and we think the designer would approve of this room. This room can range from $2,500 to $3,800 a night. ©Disney 4. The Newport Presidential Suite at Disney’s Beach Club Staying at Disney’s Beach Club is already such a treat, but to stay in the Newport Presidential Suite is a dream. It sleeps 8 guests and has views of the Boardwalk and Stormalong Bay. ©Disney This room includes a fireplace, a living room, a large dining area, and large bedrooms that are fit for a queen. You also have your own private balcony to enjoy the scenic views. The room averages $4000 a night, depending on the time of year. ©Disney 5. The Treehouse Villa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Yes, there are treehouses at Disney World. Located at the DVC resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs, these treehouses are a three-bedroom villa. Elevated ten feet above the ground, you’ll have a beautiful backdrop of nature and enjoy a full kitchen and three plush bedrooms! Treehouse Villas These treehouses sleep nine people and will set you back about $1400 to $2100 a night. If you’ve ever dreamed of spending the night in a real treehouse, this is where that dream can come true. The Kitchen 6. The Bungalow at Disney’s Polynesian Village The Bungalow at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is one of the most well-known hotel “rooms” in Disney World. These bungalows will make you feel like you are getting two vacations in one — a Disney World vacation and a private island experience. Polynesian Village Bungalows It sleeps 8 guests and amenities include a plunge pool, full kitchen, and luxuriously designed bedrooms! 10. What if we told you that you could easily walk over 10 miles in one day at Disney World? Yeah, so we know how important a pair of shoes is for the parks. Disney World is BIG Shoes can make or break your trip because if you’re feet are miserable, so are you! You probably won’t want to wait in line at that attraction you’ve been talking about for months, and you might want to skip out on waiting for the fireworks. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. There are a lot of different shoe brands on the market, but we happen to love wearing Hokas in the parks. We ordered a brand new pair and wore them for a week straight! Not to spoil our own story, but these might have to be at the top of your packing list. Our Hokas We know Hokas can be a bit on the expensive side, but it’s for good reason. When you first look at the shoe, you might notice the thick soles, since that’s where you’ll get the most comfort. Look at that cushion! After we broke in the shoes a bit, we noticed how much spring we got in our step from those thick bottoms! Disney World is almost entirely concrete, so it’s nice to have a thick layer between your feet and the ground. When we wore them, we actually forgot for a moment we were walking on that hard concrete because they felt so nice. SHOP ON AMAZON The spring in each step made us feel a bit like Tigger because we were bouncing a lot. We understand why runners love them — each step felt like we were going further than usual! We love the spring! Another part we loved was how breathable they were. Florida can get hot, and yep, even your feet will get sweaty. The mesh on top helped the air flow onto our feet and definitely made our day more enjoyable. The inside Before they were fully broken in, we noticed a bit of rubbing on the top of our heels on the shoes, but wearing socks just a smidge higher fixed the problem. You also probably don’t want your first day wearing these shoes to be at Disney World. A week or two at home will make sure the shoes are perfect for your feet. SHOP ON AMAZON All in all, we wore these Hokas for multiple full park days, and we would do it again. Don’t underestimate the importance of a good pair of shoes when visiting Disney World; they can truly make your trip more enjoyable! Keep following Disney Food Blog for everything you need for your next Disney World trip. Looking for more Disney World essentials? Check out our Amazon Storefront with all of our favorites! 11. Pack your bags, we’re going to the Bahamas! ©MSC With the new Disney Adventure setting sail this year, it seems like the cruise vacation is getting more popular! There are quite a few well-known cruise lines, but what’s new with MSC? This cruise line will be joining the trend of expanding by adding another island destination! MSC Cruises is known for its focus on fun and sustainability at sea. It most recently had a refurbishment done with its private island destination, Ocean Cay. With the popularity of the cruise line continuing to rise, they will now be adding the Bahamas to their destination list, according to Travel Pulse! ©MSC MSC recently confirmed its plans to develop an island that will become the cruise line’s newest destination. The island hasn’t been given a name yet, but is being called “Little Cay” internally. When it’s completed, it is estimated to be about 1/3 of the size of the cruise line’s already existing private island. ©MSC An MSC spokeswoman of the new island claimed, “This second island will stay true to the ethos of Ocean Cay, offering an experience that connects guests to nature, pristine beaches, and the beauty of the ocean plus luxury facilities and water features.”. Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC’s executive chariman, stated “this [new island] will offer a different experience for the different brands.”. ©MSC This new island is planned to be developed over an existing sandbank in the Bahamas. This gives MSC Group the chance to build a new thing. Vago claimed, “We design the island to be an incredible luxury experience. We’re very proud and very happy to have developed again something from nothing like this, so we don’t spoil the existing paradise”. Unfortunately, we don’t have many details outside of what’s been said. This is still a very early stage of development for MSC. The good news is, the company has announced they’re actively working with officials and partners in the Bahamas to get this new project up and rolling! ©MSC We’re excited to see what this new island destination will look like. It’s good that multiple cruise lines keep adding to their brand, allowing for many different cruising options. 13. Disney World is in the middle of a massive transition, as new projects are underway all over the resort, including all four theme parks. Walt Disney World In the short term, these major changes are coming in the next few months! Double the Water Parks Since Disney World reopened following the COVID-19 closure, the resort has alternated which of its two water parks – – Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon – – is open at a given time, with one being closed for refurbishment while the other was operational. That’s all changing in May. Blizzard Beach First off, Typhoon Lagoon is reopening on May 1st. Now, Blizzard Beach is closing that day, BUT the park is reopening on May 21st, and BOTH of Disney World’s water parks will be open at the same time all summer! This is especially notable, as this summer will be the first summer season in which Disney World hotel guests receive a complimentary water park ticket on their check-in date. Two NEW Shows at Hollywood Studios May 27th will see the debut of not one, but TWO new stage shows at Hollywood Studios. The first, Unfairly Ever After is a “spellbinding show with moving music and a most memorable finale—where you help decide who has been treated most unfairly” amongst the Disney Villains. The show will be located in the former home of Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. ©Disney The second new Hollywood Studios show is a reimagined interpretation of the park’s long-running Little Mermaid show. The new “fully reimagined show will take the audience to Ariel’s treasure trove” and be known as The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure. According to Disney, this new show will keep “the lively puppets, props, and scenery center stage. But new to this production, get ready to be dazzled with new digital puppetry and jaw-dropping effects. Plus, the addition of new-to-the-show songs!” The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure Bourbon Steak is Coming to Disney World In June, Shula’s Steakhouse at the Dolphin Resort will be closing to be transformed into an outpost of Bourbon Steak. Bourbon Steak, Orange County The chain, which was launched by Celebrity chef Michael Mina about two decades ago, has locations in Del Ray Beach, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Orange County, Scottsdale, and Washington D.C. The upscale chain is “a tribute to the classic American steakhouse” according to Mina. Going by the other locations, the restaurant’s menu should include “prime cuts of beef, fresh seafood, and an extensive selection of wines and spirits, including rare and vintage bourbon selections,” as well as regional-specific dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. 14. There are lots of things to love about the Disney World water parks: it is hard to beat a day relaxing by the water, plunging down water rides, and grabbing unlimited refills in your refillable mug. To know Disney World refillable mugs is to love Disney World refillable mugs. Well, for the most part, we still have some complaints about the mug. But it is wonderful to be able to refill your mug to your heart’s content while relaxing in your beach chair. Typhoon Lagoon We have some bad news if you are a refillable cup fan like us, though. There is now one less location where you can find refillable mugs. The good news is that the mugs are still available at the Disney World hotels, but you currently CAN’T get them at the Disney World water parks. Typhoon Lagoon has officially reopened in Disney World! It reopened on May 1st, as Blizzard Beach closed for a short refurbishment. However, BOTH water parks will be open at the same time beginning May 21st. We are checking out the newly reopened Typhoon Lagoon and came across some not-so-great news. Water Parks Refillable Mug The classic refillable mugs we have grown to know and love are currently unavailable at Typhoon Lagoon. We loved grabbing one of these mugs and enjoying refills all day long! Beyond the Disney World hotels, the water parks were the only location where the refillable mugs were available. However, it seems that mugs will only be available at the hotels, at least for now. Disney World Hotel Refillable Mugs The refillable mugs could be purchased at the water parks, and you can refill them for free throughout the day. It was a great way to stay hydrated and not spend tons of money. Refillable mugs are also available at Disney World hotels and can be purchased for the length of your stay, or you can get them included in a Disney Dining Plan. Resort Refillable Mug We also noticed some soda machines closed off near Happy Landings, and when we spoke with a Cast Member, they said that there had been an issue with bees before, and that was likely why the machines were closed off. Another Cast Member also agreed with the bees but also thought there was more to the soda machines being taken away. Closed soda machines We do have some good news, though. While the classic refillable mugs aren’t currently available, we did spot a Miss Tilly Sipper Cup that you can grab, which includes refills at Typhoon Lagoon quick-service locations for the entire day, according to Mobile Order in the Disney World app. It costs $22.49. It is not as easy to carry around as the refillable mugs, but it could be an option if you were looking forward to refills. Miss Tilly Sipper Cup When we spoke with a Cast Member, they weren’t sure if Blizzard Beach would also follow suit with getting rid of the refillable mugs, but it was definitely a possibility. There are also no guarantees that this is a permanent change, and refillable mugs could return in the future. However, for now, if you are hoping to grab a classic refillable mug, you will need to get it from your Disney World hotel. 15. In case you missed it, Brightline is at the Orlando International Airport… but that doesn’t mean you can just show up and wing it. Brightline Orlando Station If you’re planning to hop on a Brightline train out of Terminal C, you need to know the lay of the land before you get there. We’re talking parking chaos, sneaky shuttle wait times, and the kind of long walks that’ll have you questioning your luggage choices. Here’s everything you need to know about Brightline’s Orlando Station— because yes, there are rules, and yes, ignoring them will absolutely backfire. Rule #1: Do NOT assume parking will be easy. This is an airport. Parking here is never chill. Brightline riders have a few options — but if you’re expecting to just pull up and grab a space in two minutes, we’ve got news for you. Brightline Orlando Station You’ve got a couple of choices: Garage C is the closest option (next to Brightline Orlando Station), and it’s your best bet for convenience. But it fills up fast, especially during holidays or peak travel windows. You can reserve a spot up to 365 days in advance—and you should. If Garage C is full, your next closest option is the South Park Place Economy Lot. There’s a shuttle that’ll get you to Terminal C, but once you’re dropped off, it’s still a 13-minute walk to the Brightline station. That’s fine if you packed light, less fine if you’ve got kids, strollers, and Mickey-shaped everything. WallyPark offers a great deal (30% off and under $10/day), but it comes with a catch: shuttle times can be all over the place, especially during holidays. You could be waiting 30–45 minutes, so factor that into your timeline. Brightline also has three open-air surface lots specifically for guests, all priced at $20/day. These are good if you’ve got E-Pass or SunPass Plus, but they’re not open to just anyone with a car. ©MCO Moral of the story: leave early and reserve your spot if you can. No one wants to miss their train because they were circling the airport like it’s a mall on Christmas Eve. Rule #2: If you’re ridesharing, you better drop the RIGHT address. Brightline doesn’t want you to guess your drop-off point. If you’re taking Uber, Lyft, or a private car, use this exact address: 10705 Jeff Fuqua Blvd, Orlando, FL 32827 ©Google That’ll put you right at the Brightline entrance. From there, just head up to Level 5 via elevator or escalator to access the train platform. Miss this and get dropped off at the wrong terminal? You’re looking at a solid hike (or another ride). Rule #3: Watch out for shuttle confusion. Not all shuttles take you directly to Brightline. In fact, none of them do unless you’re coming from WallyPark. Shared connect shuttles drop you at Terminal C, and from there it’s another 13-minute walk to the station. Same thing with the South Park Place Lot—you get a shuttle to Terminal C, then you’re on foot. ©WallyPark This isn’t a huge deal, but if you’re in a hurry or wrangling a lot of gear, that extra walk can be a dealbreaker. Build in the time so you’re not sprinting across the terminal with your coffee spilling everywhere. Rule #4: Know your station hours. The Brightline station at Orlando International is open every day from 4:00 AM to 12:15 AM. That means if your flight is delayed past midnight, or you’re hoping to catch a super early train, you need to double-check your timing. Brightline Orlando station Also: parking lots are open 24/7, but the station is not. So don’t plan to kill hours there overnight thinking it’ll be open—it won’t. Rule #5: Don’t roll in last minute. Even if you nailed your parking or your rideshare dropped you at the perfect spot, Brightline trains don’t wait. The station is gorgeous and sleek and feels a little like a spaceship terminal, but it’s still an airport-adjacent experience, meaning things can and will take longer than you expect. ©Brightline You’ll want to be parked, through the doors, and up at the station well before your departure time. Think 45–60 minutes ahead, just to be safe. So yeah, Brightline at Terminal C is a game-changer for getting to South Florida or the parks without driving. But just like everything else at MCO, you’ve gotta play by the rules if you want a smooth ride. We’re keeping tabs on everything happening at Terminal C and beyond, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest updates. 17. Typhoon Lagoon is officially OPEN! The Disney World water park has been closed since November 2024, but if you have patiently waited to ride down Miss Adventure Falls or Crush ‘n’ Gusher, your time has finally come. Typhoon Lagoon is open! Typhoon Lagoon has reopened as of May 1st, 2025, and while Blizzard Beach has now closed for a short refurb, we have some exciting news. Beginning May 21st, BOTH Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach will be open for the summer. Now you will have to choose which water park you want to go to! We still have a few weeks until that happens, but we are at Typhoon Lagoon for its grand reopening. Typhoon Lagoon is one of two water parks at Disney World. We were there first thing this morning for its opening, and so were lots of other people! There were some pretty big crowds around opening, but they quickly dispersed once the park opened. Waiting to go inside! Cast Members even wrote an adorable “Welcome Back!” message by Lagoona Gator. They even drew a palm tree and a sun! We thought it was so cute. We love it! Stitch was even out to welcome everyone back to Typhoon Lagoon! He was looking sharp in his lei, and you know it is going to be a good day when it starts out with a Stitch spotting. Stitch was there too People didn’t waste anytime to take advantage of the cool water! Typhoon Lagoon offers a variety of attractions including Gangplank Falls, Humunga Kowabunga, Mayday Falls, Storm Slides, and more. You can also head to the Surf Pool or float your way down Castaway Creek. You can also grab a chair by the water and enjoy a bit of relaxation. Typhoon Lagoon All of the fun in the sun and hanging out in the water is definitely going to strike up an appetite. Luckily Typhoon Lagoon has a variety of food options. Of course, we are checking out LOTS of food including the Dole Whip Bathtub Sundae from Snack Shack, a Barbecue Chicken Wrap from Lowtide Lou’s, and a Captain’s Mai Tai from Hammerhead Fred’s Bait Shop. Dole Whip Bathtub Sundae There is lots to explore at Typhoon Lagoon and it can be a great option for a relaxing day by the water. Those hot days don’t seem quite as bad when you can hop into some cool water. Plus, if you are staying at a Disney World hotel you can take advantage of a FREE ticket to a Disney World water park. On your check-in day, each person on your reservation will receive a free ticket to one of Disney World’s water parks. 18. Disney World is full of unique experiences you can’t find anywhere else — that’s what keeps us coming back time and time again (okay, that and the corn dog nuggets). Four Seasons Orlando But, some of the BEST experiences at Disney World can’t be found in the parks at all, but instead at the hotels! Whether you’re looking for a fireworks cruise or a fancy meal, chances are you can find it. And, if it’s Afternoon Tea you’re after, you’re going to want to visit the Four Seasons Orlando! We recently got the chance to check out the NEW Springtime Afternoon Tea offering at Ravello at the Four Seasons Orlando! Springtime Afternoon Tea The Four Seasons isn’t owned by Disney, but it’s on Disney World property and features many of the same amenities and perks that a Disney World Deluxe Resort does. Springtime Afternoon Tea The Springtime Afternoon Tea features a selection of different teas along with finger sandwiches, petit fours, and other small bites. Springtime Afternoon Tea menu We sampled the Elena Ruz Strawberry Sandwich made with Roasted Turkey, Strawberries, Whipped Cream Cheese, and Strawberry Preserves, the Smoked Salmon Tartlet with Smoked Salmon Mousse, Chives, and Caviar, the Muffaletta Sandwich with Olive Mix, Basil Pesto, and Mortadella, and the Black Bean Cake with Savory Black Beans, Jalapeño, and Cilantro Crema. Our savory bites We chose the Wild Strawberry tea, and it was light, fruity, and delicious. It came with milk on the side — if you’re a milk-in-your-tea kind of person. Wild Strawberry tea For dessert, there was a selection of Buttermilk Scones with Whipped Cream & Raspberry Jam, Violet & Cassis Macarons, Strawberry Choux, Lemon Mini Tarts, and Chocolate Petit Gateaux. Dessert This experience is held on Saturdays and Sundays, and it’s we had such a lovely time. There is live music playing throughout the entire tea, and you can even sip multiple options of tea if you choose to switch in the middle of your experience. Live music After your teatime is up, they’ll send you off with a pick-your-own bouquet you can make. Our bouquet The Springtime Afternoon Tea is taking place for a limited time, from May 3rd to May 25th, at Ravello at the Four Seasons Orlando. The cost is $78 per adult (which includes a glass of Prosecco) and $38 per child (aged 2-12), and reservations can be made on OpenTable! Lots of tea! 19. When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. You’ve got quick and easy options in the form of snack stands and quick service locations, but you’ve also got sit-down meals that will take a chunk out of your day and allow you to relax for a second in the form of table service restaurants. Welcome to Disney World We recently stopped by Frontera Cocina in Disney Springs to see what was cookin’, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the iconic shopping and dining district? We’re finding out! Atmosphere Frontera Cocina is a very open restaurant with lots of natural light from the windows on virtually every side. So many windows! One of our favorite parts of this restaurant is the gorgeous sun mural you’ll find closer to the bar area — it’s stunning! Beautiful! You’ll also find lots of artifacts, artwork, and decorations prominent in Mexican culture on shelves around the restaurant, as well as on the walls. There’s so much to take in! Just look at these stunning plates! They take our breath away! Stunning! But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu You’ll find multiple different appetizers like soup, salad, and chips and salsa on the menu. For your entrees, there are plenty to choose from — enchiladas, tacos, carne asada, and so much more. The Menu There’s also an entire drink menu to explore too! You’ll find margaritas, cocktails, mocktails, beer, agave flights, mezcal, tequila, wine, and more. Drink menu And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats For our appetizer, we grabbed the Queso Fundido for $15. This is Queso Chihuahua melted with roasted poblanos and caramelized onions, warm corn tortillas (contains dairy). Queso Fundido This was delicious! The Monterey cheese had that sharper bite to it, but the mozzarella also comes through very clearly as well. We loved the mix of those two flavors! Delicious! We also adored that the poblanos and onions were clearly fresh and the salsa verde on the side was great to use for dipping if you’re looking for something more basic. However, the red sauce (the tomatillo) certainly had a kick to it! It has more of that girthier chipotle taste and even had the seeds in there, which we enjoyed texture-wise. The side sauces The corn tortillas were fantastic and we would absolutely get this again and again. We see why it’s so popular, but we think it’s definitely one to split with more than one person. We really enjoyed the tortillas too! We also grabbed the Carne Asada for $58, which is garlic and red chile-marinated Creekstone Natural Black Angus steak, black bean refritos with queso fresco, caramelized plantains with crema and Cotija cheese, tomatillo salsa, warm corn tortillas (contains dairy, pork). Carne Asada While we can see why this is priced the way it is from the size, ours did have a little more fat on it than we would have liked, but we could tell how fresh it was since it had so much extra seasoning on top. It’s a great price for the size! It really had that charred, grilled taste, and to be honest, with the size of this dish, you really are getting a good bang for your buck. The accompaniments to this dish were some plantains with a sweet sauce over them, as well as black beans with mozzarella cheese on top. We do wish these had tasted a little fresher and weren’t as sticky, BUT they reminded our reporter exactly how her mother-in-law would make them, which was shocking in the best way. The plaintains Our reporter also didn’t think she’d ever see a steak with an onion cooked the way her husband and mother-in-law do in Disney World, but here it was! It’s very very authentic and we would absolutely get this again. We were impressed! Next was the Creamy Chicken Enchiladas Suiza for $27. This is Just-made corn tortillas, chicken and poblano rajas filling, tomatillo-cream sauce, Queso Chihuahua, sliced red onion, cilantro leaves (contains dairy). Creamy Chicken Enchiladas Suiza These were also fantastic! They’ve got a solid layer of melted cheese on top but heads up that this does have a spicier kick to it that will creep up on you, so keep that in mind if you’re spice adverse. We loved the cheese on top! This was certainly very shareable, and while it’s an entree, it could easily be split and made into an appetizer since there are three of them. Our server told us this is a very popular dish and we can certainly see why — we’d absolutely get it again! We’d absolutely get it again! Finally, for dessert, we grabbed the Chocolate Sugar Skull for $29. This is a Chocolate shell filled with white chocolate-key lime mousse, raspberry compote, vanilla sponge cake soaked with key lime syrup, Graham cracker crumble. Chocolate Sugar Skull We really didn’t want to eat this thing because of how gorgeous it is! This is pricey, so we can see it being for more of a special occasion, but it truly did take our breath away with those hand painted details. Those details! It was a little harder to crack than we anticipated, so you really do have to put some power behind it. The outer shell is chocolate and inside you’ll find lots of whipped cream and sponge cake that we originally thought was tres leches cake, but we didn’t taste a lot of milk in it. Time to dig in! The raspberry preserve here had more of a sour taste to it that we enjoyed, and it was juicier than we expected in the best way. Kids, adults, and anyone who’s looking for an extra special treat will really enjoy this, and we highly reccomend it! Drinks To drink, we picked up the Frida for $23. This is made with Casa Dragones blanco tequila, rose petal liqueur, lemon juice, pomegranate cordial, served with a rose petal popcorn salt rim. Frida This is a gorgeous drink and the rose petal salt rim gave it a slight rose taste that was delicious. The lemon juice and pomegranate cordial together give it a bit of a pepper taste that was subtle, which we appreciated. It’s beautiful! It’s pretty expensive, but we can see why it’s one of the most popular drinks here. It is sneaky though, so heads up. It’s not terribly strong when you first taste it, but that alcohol will sneak up on you! Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You’re looking for authentic Mexican cuisine in Disney World You’re looking for a special date-night meal or meal for a special occasion You adore Mexican food and want lots of options You should skip this Disney World spot if… You’re looking for a meal on the cheaper side You’re not a fan of Mexican cuisine You’re a pickier eater Overall We couldn’t have asked for a better meal here! We loved each and every dish and highly recommend it to all who enjoy Mexican cuisine. In fact, our reporter has now said it’s a place she’ll return to time and time again, because she’s often looking for authentic Mexican food in Orlando, and she’s only ever found a handful. 21. CALLING ALL MILLENNIAL DISNEY FANS! Disney is celebrating the 30th anniversary of A Goofy Movie, and if they’re trying to make us feel old, it’s working. ©Disney Still, we’re down for any excuse to talk about this underrated hit, and between the new Powerline Max popcorn bucket and the merch collection that was just released, it’s been the talk of the town. Apparently, Disney isn’t done celebrating this movie yet because they just debuted a NEW Powerline virtual reality experience! To celebrate the 30th anniversary of A Goofy Movie, Disney has released an all-new virtual reality version of the iconic concert scene from the film. Featuring the hit song, “I2I” from Powerline, Disney utilized “innovative digital technology combined with the timeless artistry of classic animation” to bring this concert to (animated) life. ©Disney This VR concert gives fans the chance to experience the thrill of a Powerline performance like never before — as if you were on stage in front of the sold-out audience. Disney collaborated with Brooklyn-based animation Studio Cartuna to bring this VR experience to life. 22. What is going on with this restaurant in EPCOT, and why is its fate still up in the air? Restaurant Marrakesh The Morocco Pavilion in EPCOT has been a little low on dining offerings ever since the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, you could dine at Restaurant Marrakesh, Spice Road Table, or Tangierine Cafe pre-2020 days. However, Restaurant Marrakesh has been closed ever since. This restaurant served Moroccan fare and even offered entertainment in the form of a belly dancer. So what’s going on with it now? For the past few years, Restaurant Marrakesh has been open sparingly, but only as a lounge…and not the kind that you eat in! We’ve seen it open during the International Food & Wine Festival as a lounge for Florida Blue members. It offered a place for those members to relax and take a break from the crowds. Florida Blue Lounge inside Restaurant Marrakesh in 2024 Disney just announced that V.I.Passholder Days are returning this summer. This will kick off on May 14th and run through July 31st. Disney World offers select discounts and extra perks for Annual Passholders as a thank you. So what does this have to do with Restaurant Marrakesh? Disney World Annual Pass Annual Passholders can enjoy a special Passholder-exclusive lounge every day from 11 AM to 7 PM at Restaurant Marrakesh in the Morocco Pavilion in EPCOT. This lounge will give you a chance to relax with some nice air conditioning while you enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks. You can also pick up your complimentary Passholder button, too! Restaurant Marrakesh While we don’t know what the long-term fate of this restaurant will be, we at least know for now it will remain closed until July 13th. We will keep our eyes out for any changes in the future for this restaurant. For more Disney news, follow us at DFB. Read More About The Perks During V.I.Passholder Days Here! 25. A new attraction is about to take off at SeaWorld Orlando. Its Expedition Odyssey, a “flying theater” type of ride will transport visitors, virtually, from Florida to a much cooler clime – the Arctic. We won’t see T-shirts that say this, but we could nickname it Soarin’ (and Submergin’) in the Arctic a la the popular Epcot ride. The big-screen footage comes from several weeks of outings to spy wildlife and wondrous landscapes. The official opening of Expedition Odyssey is May 9, but passholder previews are underway now. The real world Take a second to realize what this is not. It’s not CGI. Those are real animals in a real frozen environment. “We’re SeaWorld, and those animals are – even more so in the motion – the most important thing for us. We really wanted to create those moments and that connection with the animals.” said Conner Carr, corporate vice president of rides and engineering for United Parks & Resorts, SeaWorld’s parent company. When the polar bear makes eye contact with riders or whales appear on cue from underneath an ice slab, it’s luck plus keen editing. “Because it’s nature photography, and they’re either there or they’re not … You have no idea what’s going to happen,” Carr said. “We got very fortunate, very lucky, and there are some incredible shots that didn’t make the film.” Seats and sensations Expedition Odyssey passengers sit in double-decker rows of 15 people. Once everyone is secured, the whole seating apparatus – like a giant arm – swivels to face the big screen, which was previously unseen. The curved screen is 50 feet in diameter, and it sort of cuddles the observers and creates that immersive experience that 21st century theme parks crave. We get coast-to-coast ocean and times and a gliding sensations through icy cliffs. When the images become mostly white – a snow shot, for instance – it felt like you could see seams that hold the screen together, though. Above the rows of seats are ledges that keep folks looking the proper direction (and not at the real-life ceiling), and special effects such as breeze and spritz are built into it. It’s light; not a splash zone situation. We’re told we won’t see the dangling feet of the upstairs riders if you’re on the lower level, although the upper level was not in use during the media preview. On the move Yeah, there’s motion involved while facing the screen. It’s not extreme, and riders are unlikely to think they’re about to go upside down. (They don’t.) It’s a little bumpy at times, and there’s a tilted, hanging moment that might give pause to jumpy people. But it helps when hovering – bird’s eye view/drone perspective – above the sea and the animal group hugs. It’s mostly about a soothing flight sensation. “Another really difficult part on something like this is filming in a way that still makes a good ride,” Carr said. “You can go up and sit and make a still film of hours of a polar bear walking around. That’s a good IMAX film, but it’s not a good ride film.” And yet, creators aim for it to make sense, he said. “You don’t want to go water, and then all of a sudden you’re on top of a mountain,” Carr said. “You want to kind of create that journey.” Beluga whales including Samson (left) and Kenai can be seen after riding the new Expedition Odyssey at SeaWorld Orlando. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel)The exit and Uki After the film, which is less than 5 minutes, passengers will pass by animals in real life, starting with beluga whales in recently refurbished habitats. The space maintains the expedition theme and chilly conditions, which guiding visitors past penguins, seals and walruses. New to the space is Uki, a Pacific walrus calf rescued in Alaska. Last notes • Expedition Odyssey is operating in the space that was home to the Wild Artic simulator ride, which closed with the arrival of pandemic shutdown in 2020. • Among the changes is the refurbished gift shop/exit, which is now brighter and bluer. • Height requirement for the ride is 39 inches. “So it is fun for your little ones, but it’s also fun for your grandparents and people that might not be high-thrill fans, and it really still delivers on that fact that everybody gets to experience it together,” Carr said. (Comparision: SeaWorld’s Super Grover Soap Box Derby coaster has a 38 inch height requirement.) • SeaWorld is serious about no loose items. Passengers must empty their pockets, down to keys and wallets, and remove items such as sunglasses. And shoes in the flip-flop/Croc family are left behind too. There are cubbies right before boarding as well as more secure, larger paid lockers at the entrance to the queue. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb.
