Epic Universe We can’t get enough of Universal Orlando’s newest theme park, and we’ve been visiting quite a bit just to take everything in. From the “Epic” rides, merch, food, and more, we — along with the rest of the theme park fandom — have been OBSESSED with Epic Universe. And it seems Starbucks is getting in on the hype with a new collectible mug! Starbucks released new Discovery Series Universal Epic Universe Mugs not too long ago and you can grab them for yourself in the park! Epic Universe Mug Epic Universe is home to two Starbucks locations — near the front of the park in Celestial Park and a smaller one near the entrance of Dark Universe. We spotted these mugs at both Starbucks locations and we just had to share them with you! Epic Universe Mugs There are two versions of the Starbucks Epic Universe mugs available for purchase right now, and both are available at the two Starbucks locations. The smaller, espresso cup-like mug features Hiccup and Toothless from the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, a sun and a moon, the famous Epic Universe Chronos, and more park details while the larger coffee mug has a lot of similar details and even more references to Epic Universe, such as Stardust Racers, the Isle of Berk theming, Dracula, and more! Starbucks at Epic Universe These mugs are subject to availability and are limited, so we recommend buying one as soon as you can, as they could disappear at any moment. If you’ve visited Epic Universe already, have you seen these mugs in the park? Do you plan on picking one (or several) up? 3. Memorial Day, which always takes place on the last Monday of May, is a day of solemnity to honor and mourn service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. One of the ways we recognize fallen heroes at Disney is by setting up tables which are meant to symbolize and honor those brave service members who never made it home. Each year we set these tables at Disneyland Resort, Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, backstage at Walt Disney World and other locations across The Walt Disney Company to honor and remember those service members’ service and sacrifice. Here are just a few of the aspects of the Missing Hero tables:  A slice of lemon on the bread plate reminds us of the bitter fate of those who will never return. A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears endured by those who have sacrificed all. An inverted glass is symbolic of those who cannot toast with us at this time. The chair is empty, the seat that remains unclaimed at the table. “The Missing Hero Tables we display at this time are meant to be a strong visual symbol of those who are no longer with us, that those who see them may stop for a moment to reflect and hopefully show appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy due to the great sacrifice that these many heroes have given for us,” explained U.S. Navy veteran and Disneyland Resort main entrance operations manager, Nick Filippone. May is National Military Appreciation Month, and here at Disney, we’re honored to salute military service—whether they be guests or cast members—in many ways. Here are a few of the ways we’ve recognized military heroes and their families throughout this past month. Magical Sail-abrations at Disneyland for LA Fleet Week 2025 We had the opportunity to once again host Sailors and Marines in port for Los Angeles Fleet Week—a salute to members of the U.S. Sea Services held over Memorial Day weekend each year—by surprising 100 service members with a day at Disneyland Resort! The Sailors and Marines had the chance to “celebrate happy” during the Disneyland 70th Celebration by enjoying time inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Mickey’s Toontown and even experience reserved viewing for the “Paint the Night” parade and “Wondrous Journeys” nighttime spectacular! Most notably, cast members and guests alike had the chance to honor their valiant service with a special Flag Retreat ceremony in Town Square, accompanied by the Disneyland Band and The Dapper Dans. Military Spouse Appreciation Day Here at Disney, we recognize the unwavering strength and support that military families provide to their loved ones in the U.S. Armed Forces. For Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 9, we highlighted military spouse and planDisney panelist, Carrie. Carrie was able to discover the joy of Disney vacations with her family thanks to the various discounts and promotions we offer at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort for eligible U.S. military members. “Disneyland Resort has truly become a home away from home for me and our kids. Obviously, we love coming to celebrate—making up for lost time when Dad’s here—but it’s also a place we choose to go when we’re having a hard time, and we just want to get away for a little bit,” explained Carrie. We recognize that the military is a family business and make it a priority to create happiness for service members, veterans and military families who visit our parks from coast-to-coast. Nods to Service Across Our Parks Our parks are full of small details, rich history and hidden nods to service, including former President George W. Bush’s Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors exhibit in EPCOT. Beyond the portraits, there are also nods to veterans who helped build the parks, such as Disney Legend and U.S. Navy veteran, Rear Admiral Joe Fowler, who is among nearly 25 Disney Legends who helped shape the parks as we know them today. You can find his name at “Fowler’s Harbor” along the Rivers of America in Disneyland park or even ride the Admiral Joe Fowler ferry across the Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World. Flag Retreats from Coast-to-Coast Flag Retreats have become a proud tradition at our parks on both coasts. Every day, as the flag is lowered on Main Street, U.S.A., we take time to salute the heroes who stand up for our country. Disney has continuously honored countless service members, veterans and their families throughout the years and it will continue to be a representation of our enduring salute to service. These ceremonies have created incredibly special moments where we have and continue to honor and recognize our military service members in both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom–something we’ve been doing since Disneyland park first opened almost 70 years ago. Creating Happiness Year Round There are so many ways we bring joy to our guests, and we take pride in our over 100 years of enduring salute to service. We are grateful to not only get to recognize our heroes within our parks but also through charitable giving and relationships with organizations like the USO, Blue Star Families, Fisher House and Student Veterans of America or through hiring initiatives like Heroes Work Here. Eligible U.S. Military members even have access to discounted tickets and resort stays year-round. For ticket purchases, visit your nearest participating U.S. military base ticket office or Shades of Green. For resorts, please visit our resort websites for Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort.   If you have questions about military discounts or planning your Disney vacation, visit planDisney.com. We are proud to support service members of the U.S. Armed Forces and extend heartfelt gratitude for their selfless service! *Offers subject to change and availability.  The post Disney Honors Heroes During Memorial Day and Military Appreciation Month appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. 4. Memorial Day 2025: Disney Honors the Fallen with Missing Hero Tables Memorial Day has always served as a reminder to pause and reflect on the selfless service and sacrifice of our fallen military heroes. Disney is honored to take part in recognizing our heroes’ valiant service and the families they have left behind. Disney’s enduring salute to service began over a century ago when founders, Walt and Roy O. Disney, both nobly served their country during World War I. Through contributing to morale of U.S. Armed Forces with Disney-themed military insignias, hidden nods to service woven into the iconic parks, supporting veteran employment and more, Disney continues to foster military support and camaraderie. Disney honors all fallen heroes this Memorial Day weekend with Missing Hero Tables at Disneyland Resort, Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa and backstage locations at Walt Disney World Resort. The tables are reserved to honor the brave and selfless American military members who gave their lives in service to our country or went missing in action and have not found their way back home. The Sailors and Marines had the chance to “celebrate happy” during the Disneyland 70th Celebration by enjoying time inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Mickey’s Toontown and even the returning “Paint the Night” parade and “Wondrous Journeys” nighttime spectacular! “Disney really embraces our veterans, and it’s been part of the DNA of the Disneyland Resort. You see it everywhere you go — from the flag retreat to Veteran’s Day to Fleet Week 2025 — it’s always at the forefront of what we do here every day,” said Ariel Elias, manager, Supplier Diversity, Disneyland Resort who is also a retired Marine Corps Warrant Officer and former participant in Disney’s military fellowship program. Most notably, cast members and guests alike had the chance to honor their valiant service with a special flag retreat ceremony in Town Square, accompanied by the Disneyland Band, The Dapper Dans and special honoree, Rear Admiral Richard W. Meyer, Deputy Commander of the U.S. Third Fleet, U.S. Navy. “How many times in your life do you have the opportunity to actually get to participate in the events that are happening at Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth?” said Rear Admiral Meyer. “To be able to come here, share that with the public, participate in the events, get to see some of the cool new things at Disneyland, and really get to show off the Sailors and Marines to the community — it’s really a chance to do that and I think that’s what made this a really special day.” Packaging Magic for Heroes and their Families Disney VoluntEARS help assemble 2,000 USO care kits for deployed U.S. service members at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Disney VoluntEARS program empowers cast members all over the world to participate in charitable events with various organizations – with over 13 million hours volunteered since 1983. In support of National Military Appreciation Month, cast members around the country had various opportunities to help support military families and veterans including assembling care packages on both coasts and donating books in Hawaii. Through the United Service Organization (USO), Walt Disney World cast members were able to come together in creating 2,000 care packages for deployed service members. The bags are made up of various toiletry items, a note of encouragement and a touch of Disney magic. Similarly, VoluntEARS in Glendale got to work with Blue Star Families to assemble care packages for military families to aid in easing their transition after moving due to Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. Moving can be stressful and impactful on various aspects of family life and these care packages help bring happiness to those families by sharing the magic of Disney. Blue Star Families also worked alongside cast members from Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, to bring joy to military families at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. VoluntEARS participated in crafting with kids, a special reading of Lilo & Stitch (Little Golden Book), and even helped facilitate a surprise visit from Stitch! Each child received a Mickey Mouse plush and had the opportunity to select five free Disney books to take home. “Aulani was honored to help our Blue Star Families ‘ohana bring a little Disney magic to Hawai’i-based military families through the power of mo’olelo or story,” said Dylan Rogers, Aulani Ambassador. Blue Star Families Kitting Event in GlendaleBlue Star Books event in Hawaii This year, Disney is once again delivering care packages of Disney-themed products to nearly 100 Fisher Houses across the country, from Anchorage to Miami. This continues the company’s relationship with Fisher House Foundation, which offers free, temporary lodging to military and veteran families, allowing them to be close to their loved ones receiving medical care at a nearby military medical center or VA Hospital. There are many ways Disney brings joy to guests and the company takes pride in its over 100 years of enduring salute to service. Since 2012, Disney has contributed funding and media support to nonprofit organizations that focus on creating happiness for veterans and military families.  The company is grateful to not only get to recognize heroes within our parks but also through charitable giving and relationships with organizations like the USO, Blue Star Families, Fisher House Foundation and Student Veterans of America or through hiring initiatives like Heroes Work Here. Long-Standing History of Support for the Military Walt Disney once said, “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.” The foundation of Disney parks and resorts can be credited to the efforts of many individuals, including veterans. In the creation of Disneyland, Walt turned to fellow service members to help make his dream a reality, nearly 25 of whom are recognized as Disney Legends. Through the creation of Heroes Work Here in 2012, Disney has continued to support employment opportunities for U.S. military members and helped thousands of veterans find jobs within The Walt Disney Company. Today, the program continues Disney’s commitment to facilitating the professional success of veterans and their families. Disney parks are places that create happiness and enduring family memories. This is especially important for military families enjoying time together in between times of extended separations due to military service. Disney honors and salutes the service and sacrifice of military service members and veterans in many ways including daily flag retreat ceremonies at Magic Kingdom Park in Florida and Disneyland Park in California. These are incredibly special moments and something the company has been doing since Disneyland first opened nearly 70 years ago. Additionally, through special relationships with such organizations as the Bush Institute, Disney is honored to host former President George W. Bush’s Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors exhibit in EPCOT. Whether it’s through charitable contributions, training programs or theme park discounts, The Walt Disney Company continues to exemplify respect and honor for those who have sacrificed and contributed to the U.S. Armed Forces. 7. So, when exactly does hurricane season start in Disney World? Rainy day at Magic Kingdom Here’s the thing: hurricane season has a date on the calendar, but Mother Nature doesn’t really follow rules. Officially, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. But over the past few years, we’ve seen storms pop up earlier and earlier—sometimes even weeks before June hits. And according to early 2025 forecasts, that trend might not be slowing down anytime soon. Let’s talk about what that means if you’re planning a Disney World trip soon. The Calendar Says June 1—But the Weather Might Not Wait Technically, hurricane season doesn’t start until June 1st. But we’ve now reached a point where that date feels more like a suggestion than a hard rule. In seven of the last 10 years, a named storm has formed before the official start of the season. For context: that only happened three times between 2005 and 2014. So yeah, early storms are becoming the norm, not the exception. And 2025 is shaping up to follow that same pattern. ©CNN Some weather models are already hinting at storm development in the western Caribbean—an area that could directly impact Central Florida, including Disney World. Sea surface temperatures in that region are running way hotter than average for May, and that heat is basically fuel for tropical systems. So if you’re visiting Disney World in May—or even early June—it’s worth being a little more hurricane-aware than usual. Why Are We Seeing More Early Storms? A lot of it comes down to ocean temps. Our oceans are warming up earlier in the year, and storms love warm water. Warm water = energy. Energy = stronger, faster-developing storms. And this spring, sea surface temps in the Caribbean and Gulf are more in line with what we’d expect in late June or July. That’s…not great. ©NOAA It’s also why the National Hurricane Center bumped up their tropical weather outlook schedule a few years ago. Since 2021, they’ve started issuing outlooks on May 15 instead of June 1, just to keep up with how things are shifting. We’re not saying Disney World is going to get slammed with a storm next week. But we are saying this season is worth watching, especially if your vacation is happening before mid-June. What Early Hurricane Season Means for Disney World Let’s clear something up: An early start to hurricane season doesn’t automatically mean a wild ride in the parks. But 2025 is expected to be a busy year. Hurricane researchers at Colorado State University are predicting 17 named storms this season, which is above average. ©NOAA More storms = more chances for disruptions. And while Disney is pretty amazing at handling bad weather (they don’t mess around with safety), a tropical storm or hurricane can definitely impact your park day. Think closures, reschedules, and, yes, a lot of rain ponchos. That’s why we always recommend keeping an eye on weather forecasts if you’re headed to Disney anytime between May and November—and especially this year. What You Can Do If You’re Planning a Trip Watch the forecast. If your trip falls in late May or early June, you might be arriving during the first wave of tropical activity. Stay in the loop and be ready to pivot if needed. Stay flexible. If a named storm is on the horizon, Disney will usually offer options to reschedule or cancel. They’ve been super guest-friendly about this in the past. Pack smart. Bring lightweight rain gear just in case. And remember—Florida rain hits hard and fast. Even outside of hurricane season, you’re probably going to get wet at some point. Know Disney’s hurricane policy. If an official hurricane warning is issued for Orlando or your home location within seven days of your arrival, Disney does allow you to cancel or modify your vacation without penalties. So, When Does It Really Start? The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1st. But if we’re going by recent patterns and 2025 predictions, it wouldn’t be surprising to see named storms showing up before that date—especially with how warm the water is already. Crowds in Magic Kingdom ahead of the hurricane Bottom line: don’t freak out, but do stay informed. Early tropical activity doesn’t guarantee a stormy trip, but it’s better to be prepared than caught off guard. Especially when you’re trying to make the most of your time in the most magical place on Earth. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 8. Oh no! Our favorite shoes for walking around Disney World are getting a price increase. Hoka You’ll almost always catch us wearing Hokas in the parks since they’re able to withstand the different terrains and grounds of the park, and we’re disappointed to see they’re going to cost us more. Deckers Outdoor, the makers of Hoka and Ugg, said, “the company expects up to $150 million in additional costs of goods sold for the fiscal year,” according to Investors. The prices of shoes are rising due to tariffs, the increasing cost of manufacturing, upgraded materials, and higher ocean freight rates. We love the spring of Hoka Hokas are not the cheapest running shoes we’ve seen, but we’re generally willing to pay the price because of how incredible these shoes are. They have large cushions on the bottom and truly let us go miles and miles in the parks. Even one of our DFB reporters who refuses to wear anything beyond flip-flops will cave and use Hokas from time to time. For a solid pair of running shoes, we can expect to pay around $125 to $170, averaging about $150. We are not looking forward to this price increasing! Hoka Clifton 10 We might not be able to stop the prices from increasing, but how can we get our favorite shoes at a lower cost? Sales! Here at Disney Food Blog, we’re always hunting for the best deals for Hokas and other running shoe brands so you can save a little more money. What we wouldn’t do is skip on a great pair of shoes. Shoes can make or break your Disney World trip because nothing makes a vacation harder than your feet hurting when standing in line. You’ll likely be standing a lot in Disney World, from queues for attractions to waiting to order food to just getting from land to land, and we can easily go over ten miles every park day. Our Hokas We share many different shoe options you can bring with you to Disney World, including brands outside of Hoka, so make sure you keep following DFB for shoe sales and everything you’ll need for your next trip. 9. You might be a Disney Adult if the idea of a free souvenir has you making a park reservation and heading straight to Magic Kingdom. Disney World This souvenir changes from time to time and recently got an upgrade. Don’t mind us if you see us wandering around the park trying to collect them all. We were walking around Magic Kingdom when we were offered free stickers! We’re never one to say no to something free, and imagine our delight when we realized they were new designs. Free stickers! The first sticker we were offered was Donald, who is pointing to himself (he is #1, you know). Donald! Mickey and Minnie look like they’re listening to a story or watching Happily Ever After. Mickey! How do you get these free stickers? There’s no magic password or one specific Cast Member who has them, but here’s a list of Cast Members who might have them. We’re emphasizing might because they could run out of stickers or simply not have them. We treat it like a scavenger hunt to see who has them or not! Photopass photographers Greeters at restaurants Cast Members by pin trading boards Character attendants Merchandise Cast members Minnie This is not an official list, and again, they might not have any, but we’re always so excited when they do. Sometimes stickers are offered, and sometimes you need to ask, but this free souvenir makes us smile whenever we get them. Love it! We’re going to be keeping our eyes out to see if there are more designs so we can collect them all. 10. No one likes being delayed when they’re flying, especially if they’ve got a connection to make or are otherwise on a time crunch. Southwest Plane Sometimes it’s not possible to plan ahead for flight delays or cancellations, but if you’re flying in or out of Orlando, there’s a specific time of day you’ll want to majorly avoid. While it won’t guarantee you won’t run into issues, if you want a better chance at avoiding any delays, this is one of the best ways to make it happen! We’re entering hurricane season in Orlando, but summertime in general also brings an influx of thunderstorms in the afternoon 0n many days. Storms and heavy rain can easily delay planes, even if the storm is only supposed to be around for half an hour. MCO Airport The storms most commonly hit in late afternoon, as the heat of the day hits. Heat lightning can also be present without the accompaniment of thunder and rain, but can delay planes all the same. Orlando International Airport (MCO) saw 350 delays in ONE afternoon on May 25th, solely due to afternoon storms — and this is not uncommon. Orlando International Airport Therefore, if you’re looking for a way to avoid your flight being delayed by a common problem in the city during the summer, we suggest flying in/out of Orlando in the morning! While this does mean getting up earlier and spending less time in the parks/at home, it’s often very worth it if you’re aiming to get to your destination on time and want a lesser chance of the weather causing issues. Orlando International Airport While we do also recommend morning flights during the winter and fall season as well, afternoon storms are less likely to affect flights during the cooler times of year. Again, this isn’t foolproof, as other storm systems can come through unexpectedly at any time of year, but this is a good way to cross at least one potential issue off your list! 12. Disney+ is home to some of our favorite kids’ TV shows, including Bluey and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, but a familiar show might be coming to the catalog. ©Disney After one streaming platform declined to renew, Disney+ picked up this show and will soon be available on the platform. According to Variety, Cocomelon will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting in 2027. ©Moonbug This children’s nursery rhyme show joined Netflix in 2020, and while it brought in a lot of views, Netflix says the viewership has declined by almost 60%. The show initially started on YouTube, where it has over 190 million subscribers and over 200 billion views. Cocomelon’s producer, Moonbug Entertainment, also produces Blippi and Cocomelon Lane, which are set to stay on Netflix. Moonbug recently laid off around 5% of its workforce, mostly for jobs in Los Angeles and London. ©Netflix Right now, Disney+ has three of the most-streamed shows for preschool kids, ages two to five: #1 — Bluey #2 — Spidey and His Amazing Friends #3 — Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cocomelon is currently #6 on this list, and once acquired, Disney+ will own four of the ten top preschool shows. ©Disney Disney World has been slowly bringing characters from kids’ shows into the parks, specifically for little ones. Hollywood Studios is a hot spot for them since you can meet Fancy Nancy, Vampirina, and Doc McStuffins. Fancy Nancy You can join in on the fun at Disney Jr. Play and Dance! This show is temporarily changing to “Get Animated” for Disney’s Cool Kid Summer, where kids can play in a DJ-led dance party with games, crafts, and an imaginary obstacle course. Disney Jr. Play and Dance We haven’t seen Bluey enter the theme parks yet, but they look like they’re having fun on the Disney Cruise Line. Bluey and Bingo! Is Cocomelon coming to the parks? We aren’t sure, but we will be keeping an eye on it to see what Disney does with this property. Keep following Disney Food Blog to stay up to date on all Disney news. 13. Epic Universe is so last week, am I right? No, of course not. The new Universal Orlando theme park was years in the making, but if you want to wait until it’s less white-hot for a visit, there are new and returning options at Central Florida’s theme parks and attractions in the coming months. (Beware, it’s practically Halloween season. Boo!) Disney debuts Two new stage shows are now in the daily lineup at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After,” in which Magic Mirror breaks into song, is running in the former home of the Lightning McQueen Racing Academy, just beyond Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Ariel and Ursuala are 2 of the characaters featured in 'The Little Mermaid - A Musical Adventure,' a new live stage show at Disney's Hollywood Studios. (Omark Reyes/Walt Disney Co.)“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” features Ariel and friends in a new production. A previous “Mermaid” show there closed with the 2020 pandemic shutdown and never returned. Also on tap is GEO-82, an adults-only lounge within Epcot’s Spaceship Earth. It opens June 4. (Reservations are required). Meanwhile, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival continues daily through June 2, them the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival kicks off Aug. 28. On the character front, there will be Goofy-centric events in Epcot’s CommuniCore Hall, and Phineas and Ferb will begin making appearances, for a limited time, near the entrance of the park on June 1. We await news about the timing of a new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom, but Disney says its “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” will begin “this summer.” Ditto for the new version of Test Track, said to reopen in “late summer” at Epcot. Typhoon Lagoon water park again is holding H2O Glow After Hours events on select nights through Sept. 13. And for the first time since the early pandemic days, both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are open at the same time this summer. SeaWorld dives in SeaWorld Orlando presents several seasonal activities under its Summer Spectacular umbrella. They are available on select days through Sept. 1. There also will be the “Shamu and Crew” parade; Club SeaGlow, a dance party at Bayside Stadium; Rescue Tails at Seaport Theater; and “Ignite” fireworks. Baby Shark and Pinkfong characters are set for appearances at SeaWorld Orlando theme park this summer. (United Parks & Resorts)New to the scene: Baby Shark Experience, which launches June 30 and runs through Sept. 2. That will include a live show plus meet-and-greets with Baby Shark and Pinkfong. A YouTube video includes a “Happy, happy SeaWorld” ditty. You’ve been warned. The park’s Bands Brew & BBQ event will be held on weekends from July 5 through Aug. 24. The performers have not been announced. Aquatica, SeaWorld’s water park, brings back AquaGlow, an after-hours event with some new variations including Tassie’s Neon Twist, Luminous Lane and Roa’s Rapids: Amped Up. There are also laser-light shows, foam parties and unlimited soft drinks on select nights through Sept. 27. Aquatica also has added the Ultimate Playdate, which gives families early and exclusive access to Turi’s Kid Cove on select dates between June 2 and July 28. Legoland life Legoland Florida continues its participation in Lego Festival, a worldwide event tied to other Legoland parks. It features themed zones with group builds plus dance parties, characters and Fortnite experiences. It runs Saturday and Sundays through June 7. In addition, Sea Life Florida Aquarium, built next door to Legoland Florida, is set for its grand opening on June 6. Halloween scene If you think August is no time to be having Halloween thoughts, well, you’re not from around here, are you? Consider this: We have more public information in May about our park’s spooky events than we do about Independence Day. OK, it’s mostly just dates at this point, no need to get scared. Although some attractions are selling tickets already. • Halloween Horror Nights begins at Universal Studios on Aug. 29. The after-hours fright fest is held 46 nights through Nov. 2. For info: universalorlando.com/hhn. • Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, a gentle, after-hours event, is set for Magic Kingdom on 38 nights between Aug. 15 and Oct. 31, although it’s already sold out for Halloween night. More info: disneyworld.com. • SeaWorld’s Howl-O-Scream, its after-hours event with haunted houses, scare zones and roaming hordes, runs from Sept. 5 through Nov. 1. It’s also promising “never-before-seen surprises.” Spooktacular, its gentler, non-horde daytime event, is set for select dates between Aug. 30 and Nov. 2. More info: seaworldorlando.com. • Brick-or-Treat, the Legoland Florida Halloween daytime event, will be on select dates between Sept. 20 and Nov. 2. More info: legolandflorida.com. Last call? We know for sure that some attractions are going away. The exact dates are not always available, but will these long-timers still be around next summer? • The curtain is definitely dropping at MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The company has announced the final day to see Kermit and friends in this location, an attraction open since 1991, will be June 7. Likewise for the nearby PizzeRizzo restaurant. The space will be part of a future land based on “Monsters, Inc.,” eventually. There will be a Muppet takeover of the park’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but so far no end date for the Aerosmith version. • Disney has also announced that it will add two “Cars” rides as a Frontierland expansion at Magic Kingdom. But this means farewell to Tom Sawyer Island, Rivers of America and Liberty Belle. No dates have been shared. • In December, Universal Orlando announced that Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will be closing at Universal Studios in early September of 2025. The good news is that Disney often lets us know about closures beforehand. You can’t control or plan for unexpected closures, BUT you can plan ahead for the planned closures at Disney World. Let’s look at which restaurant just reopened, and what closures are happening this week. From May 12th through May 21st, 2025, Whispering Canyon Café at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge was closed for refurbishment. But we have some good news! The restaurant has officially reopened, and you can once again enjoy the shenanigans and all-you-can-eat fare. Whispering Canyon Cafe While the closure was only for a short time, we are glad this restaurant is back open! Let’s take a look at what attractions and locations will be closed this week, May 24th through May 31st, at Disney World! Magic Kingdom Playground at Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor children’s playground inside the Dumbo the Flying Elephant queue closed for refurbishment on February 24th, 2025. While the playground is closed, the ride is still open and available for kids of all ages to soar through the sky! Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor playground is expected to reopen in Spring 2025. Hall of Presidents The Hall of Presidents closed at Magic Kingdom on January 20th. The Hall of Presidents The attraction will be closed until later in 2025, though Disney has not shared a specific date. We will keep an eye out for updates, though! The closure is likely to change the current president, as January 20th marked Inauguration Day. While it is closed, other maintenance and routine work may also be happening. Astro Orbiter If you want to blast off into space, you’ll have to head over to Space Mountain because Astro Orbiter is temporarily closed for refurbishment! Astro Orbiter closed as of January 13th and is planned to reopen in the summer of 2025. No specific date has been announced for the high-in-the-sky ride, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for an update from Disney. Astro Orbiter The ride has been completely dismantled and is being refurbished elsewhere. It definitely looks a little barren as you are walking into Tomorrowland right now! However, Disney has filed a permit that could mean the attraction will soon be back in its place in Tomorrowland, and we are starting to see it getting reassembled. Construction walls are back, and the crane is in place to reassemble. You’re Gonna Want to Be On Main Street, U.S.A. for This NEW Magic Kingdom Surprise in Disney World Big Thunder Mountain Railroad On January 6th, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for an extended temporary closure. Chassis testing unit The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will be closed for at least a year and will reopen sometime in 2026. The ride will be undergoing maintenance while it is closed. When it reopens, it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. We can’t wait to see what changes will be coming to this ever-popular roller coaster! We recently spotted some ride testing happening which was very exciting. Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and take a rest, this could be it! Tortuga Tavern Just like Tomorrowland Terrace, Tortuga Tavern is a seasonal restaurant in Magic Kingdom. It has been a bit since we saw it open. Most recently, it was used as a cookie location for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Tortuga Tavern We had previously spotted shrubs around the restaurant as they worked on the flooring. However, all the shrubs have been taken down now. We don’t know exactly when/if this restaurant will reopen, but we will keep you updated if we learn more! Something NEW Is Coming to Magic Kingdom for Annual Passholders in June! EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, 2024, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally there when the park opened in 1982. Test Track Disney shared more details at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, and an updated opening timeline was announced! We’ll be able to ride Test Track once again in late summer 2025. We have gotten a look at the new Test Track cars, too. Recently we have even been hearing vehicles running on the track. We are getting closer and closer to its reopening! We Reviewed the Cheapest Sit Down Dinner You Can Get in EPCOT Disney’s Animal Kingdom It’s Tough to Be a Bug It’s Tough to Be a Bug is officially closed for good. This attraction in Disney’s Animal Kingdom invites you to join the bug kingdom on an adventure. While the show didn’t usually make it to the top of favorite attractions in Disney World, it has now officially closed to make way for a new show. It’s Tough to be a Bug! It’s Tough to Be a Bug closed on March 17th. The show is permanently closed to make way for a brand-new show, “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!”, expected to debut in winter 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Games The first round of closures began in DinoLand U.S.A. on January 13th, 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Game were closed down, and construction has begun on the brand-new land themed to the Tropical Americas, Pueblo Esperanza. The walls have been up since the closure, and things have been disappearing from behind the walls. Almost everything has been taken down behind the walls, including the large green dinosaur. DinoLand, U.S.A. It is definitely a sad sight, but we are also excited to see Pueblo Esperanza! DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, the snack stands, and The Boneyard remain open. Disney hasn’t announced an official closing date for the rest of DinoLand. However, they have announced that “2025 is your year to visit before it goes extinct!” Disney’s NEW Animal Kingdom Announcements Are the Best Things We’ve Seen All Week Disney’s Hollywood Studios Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy The Cars-themed show featuring Lightning McQueen permanently closed on October 8th, 2024, to make way for a brand-new Villains show. And the new show opens THIS WEEK! Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy The Cars show was previously housed in the Sunset Showcase building, but the last day for guests to enjoy it was October 7th. The new Villains show officially has an opening date! It will debut on May 27th, 2025. We got the chance to see a sneak peek of the new show and we had thoughts! Voyage of the Little Mermaid As well, Voyage of the Little Mermaid is currently closed in Disney World. The iconic Voyage of the Little Mermaid marquee has been removed, and it was recently replaced with a brand-new marquee sign! And the best part? The brand-new show opens this week! Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a new, updated show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure,” and will be debuting on May 27th, 2025. It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano We are getting close to the closure of this Hollywood Studios restaurant. If you have been wanting to have one last meal here, make sure you stop by on May 10th or before, as the restaurant is officially closing for good on May 11th, 2025. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano The restaurant is closing in Muppets Courtyard to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. themed land. Eventually, the rest of Muppets Courtyard will also close, including Muppet*Vision 3D on June 8th, 2025 (last day to experience the show is June 7th). FIRST LOOK at the New ‘Little Mermaid’ Show Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios Disney Springs Starbucks on the West Side The Starbucks on the West Side of Disney Springs is temporarily closed for refurbishment. It closed on March 3rd, and it is expected to reopen in mid-summer. Starbucks is undergoing refurbishment Have no fear, though — you can still get your Starbucks fix in Disney Springs! Head over to the Disney Springs Marketplace location, which will be open during the refurbishment. Caffeine headaches are not allowed in Disney Springs! REVIEW: Why EVERYONE Should Try This Disney Springs Restaurant At Least Once Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Alright, it is only kind of closing, but we wanted to make sure you were aware! From April 28th until June 16th, 2025, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf will be undergoing refurbishment. However, even though it will be getting refurbished, you can still stop by to play a round of golf. Only ONE course will be open at a time during the refurbishment, so you won’t have your choice of The Summer or The Winter Course; it will just be whichever one is open. Winter Summerland Mini Golf As well, Winter Summerland won’t be taking reservations during this time. If you are looking to play a round, you will just head over to the course as a walk-up. You can also head over to Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf if you are looking for even more mini golf fun. Disney World Hotels Jellyrolls — Disney’s BoardWalk Jellyrolls at Disney’s BoardWalk officially closed on April 19th, 2025. This entertainment venue has provided our team with countless memories, and we know many others are also sad to see it close. Jellyrolls had its final farewell performance on April 19th and closed its doors forever on Disney’s BoardWalk. Jellyrolls However, this isn’t the end for Jellyrolls, as the bar has said they are “making a move.” We don’t know many details about that move yet, but we will keep you updated. Stormalong Bay and Hurricane Hanna’s– Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts Stormalong Bay is the shared pool between Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. It features a beach, a lazy river, a large pool, and an exciting pirate ship slide! When we stopped by recently, we noticed that the pool had been filled back up with water. We are getting closer to its reopening. Stormalong Bay Construction This pool area will be closed until June for refurbishment. While it’s closed, hotel guests can use the Tidal (Beach Club), Admiral (Yacht Club), and Dunes Cove (Beach Club) leisure pools. Hurricane Hanna’s, the pool bar at Stormalong Bay, will also be closed during the refurbishment. “I Am Paying For it After All”: Disney Adults Are TIRED of This Hotel TREND Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? 18. It was a week to remember for theme parks! Epic Universe From the opening to Epic Universe, to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Tickets going on sale, it has been a crazy week for theme park fans! If you’re looking to get all the news you need from this week, you’re right where you need to be! Epic Universe Has Officially Opened We finally made it everyone! The portals are now open and it’s time to journey through the worlds of the Isle of Berk, the Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, and Celestial Park. We were not only there for opening day, but also the grand celebration for the opening the night before! A Viking Ship! The celebration included a blue carpet, a viking ice sculpture, and special guest appearances! The Weasley twins and Professor Flitwick even showed up to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We, my friends, have fireworks The night was capped off with fireworks, lights, and drones! It was a truly special experience to get excited for the grand-opening the following day. The night was so perfect, no one would’ve even thought that the opening day wouldn’t have been perfect as well. We’re here to tell you, it was far from it… It’s crowded Opening day started kind of rough, as Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry started off closed, and didn’t open for SIX HOURS! The one ride that fans had been so desperately waiting for, the ‘jaw-dropping’ Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, just wasn’t available. Keep in mind, people were getting to the park at 6 AM, and they couldn’t ride it till about 3:15. 300 minutes = 5 hours This was worst case scenario considering a few days before opening the Harry Potter ride hit a wait time of as much as 300 minutes, following the decision to remove the controversial virtual queue. If you thought it couldn’t get worse than that, we hate to tell you it did. Monsters Unchained Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment also closed! The popular ride only made it till 10 AM before experiencing issues. Luckily, it reopened by 11 AM, so fans didn’t have to wait too long. On top of that, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge closed at around 5 PM. Epic Universe could just not catch a break on opening day! Bowser’s Challenge! The opening wasn’t all bad, it just could’ve gone a little smoother. We’re just so thrilled that long anticipated park is FINALLY open! Guests can now come whenever to experience this truly Epic Universe. After all, it can only go up from here! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Tickets Can Be Purchased NOW It’s the beginning of summer, which mean it’s time to talk about Halloween at Disney! Halloween decorations in Magic Kingdom It definitely was time to talk about it because this week was FILLED with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party updates. Happy Halloween! We first got the official dates for when the exclusive event would be happening. The after-hours party will be running on select nights from August 15th to October 31st. The event is going to be filled with exclusive character meet and greets, parades, fireworks, eats and treats, and more! It’s a very popular party, and we were reminded of that this week. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party With the dates getting announced, Disney followed that up with prices increasing. After the announcement of the prices increasing, Disney posted the full list of scheduled dates WITH their prices. We went ahead and created a full list of all the dates you may want to avoid due to the prices going up! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Tickets were officially available for purchase on May 22nd, and within hours Halloween day party tickets were gone! That’s right, tickets to go to the exclusive party on October 31st are already SOLD OUT! It wasn’t much of a surprise, as the 31st is typically the first night to sell out when tickets go on sale. When you pair that with the fact that Halloween lands on a Friday this year, everyone had get tickets fast! We Got a Sneak Peak at The New Villains Show Even though it doesn’t release until next week, we got a FIRST LOOK at Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Magic Mirror The new upcoming show is set to feature a ton of the biggest Disney villains you can think of. The show is a mix of screens and live on stage! The first official performances are set to begin on May 27th, and is replacing the old Lightning McQueen Racing Academy. Maleficent in Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After The first thing we realized was that the theater was completely different, we’re talking an entirely new look! It was genuinely stunning in there, and we can’t wait for everyone to see it. It’s been turned into a proscenium theater with beautiful rows of seats with an antique look. Cruella Not to spoil too much, but the Magic Mirror summons you to help him decide which villain has been the most unfairly treated. The show is going to feature villains like Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Maleficent, and more! They will step into the spotlight to make their case about why they’ve been treated the most unfairly over the years. Captain Hook The show was really alive, and we loved every second of it. We got surprise appearances from Jafar and Hades, the excitement just kept piling up! We haven’t eve talked about the music. Of course they had the iconic villains songs, but there is some new stuff as well — including an original song! More villains Alongside the new villains show opening on May 27th, will be the new “Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure”. We haven’t gotten to watch that one yet, but Disney dropped some photos giving fans a first look! To put it bluntly, the show looks GORGEOUS. The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure That’s some of our biggest news from this week, and from the sounds of it, there’s going to be a lot happening next week. This was truly a week to remember with Epic Universe opening, it’s so exciting that we can now experience the park we’ve all been talking about for YEARS. 19. We’re always on the hunt to make sure your travel adventures go as smoothly as possible. Because of that, we’re aware of all the common scams that might try to trick you. MCO Airport Sometimes, we come across a scam that is just too funny not to share. This scam involves many people’s bucket list items, so beware! A new attraction called Universe Fantasy Land in China recreates Mount Fuji for visitors, according to the South China Morning Post. That’s a wild sentence! ©South China Morning Post The fake Mount Fuji is a painted hill that you can take pictures with for 98 yuan, about $13 USD. It even has small eruptions on the weekends, made with pink smoke. Guests’ biggest complaint is that it doesn’t cost any money to take photos with the real Mount Fuji. ©South China Morning Post Universe Fantasy Land was meant to be “a fairy tale landscape, featuring a mountain, a shimmering lake, lush green grass, a while horse, and a charming wooden cottage, all aimed at enticing urban dwellers from the capital city, Beijing, who are eager for an escape from the pressures of work and daily life.” ©South China Morning Post The biggest part? Mount Fuji is not located in China—it’s in Japan! We hope no tourists fall for this trap. It might be fun for a joke, but don’t forget to add the real Mount Fuji to your bucket list. ©Britannica That reminds us of going to the China Pavilion in EPCOT and pretending it’s the real country! 20. Even with an Annual Pass, it’s possible to make MISTAKES in the theme parks! ©Universal If you don’t visit all the time or you don’t stay up-to-date on all the news and perks, it can be easy to miss out on special offerings, discounts, and experiences. So, we’re sharing the mistakes to avoid if you’re a Universal Orlando Annual Passholder! Not Paying Attention to Perks Once you get a Universal Orlando Annual Pass, it’s important to pay attention to the perks that are offered to Passholders — that’s how you get your value! Annual Passholders can get special discounts on parking, dining, and tickets for family and friends. They also have access to the UOAP lounge! Diagon Alley Universal also often offers free, themed magnets for Passholders. And when it’s time for seasonal events? You might be able to score a deal on offerings during the Mardi Gras, Halloween, or holiday seasons! Not Taking Advantage of Exclusive Events From time to time, Passholders at Universal will be offered previews to check out new offerings, so make sure to be on the lookout! Passholders got the chance to preview DreamWorks Land AND Epic Universe before they opened to the public. Epic Universe Passholder Preview So if you see a new opening coming up soon on the calendar, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for a preview opportunity — you never know what Universal may offer! Forgetting to Use Discounts Remember when we talked about discounts? Don’t forget them — they could save you a LOT of money on your visit. The lower-level Annual Passes get discounts on parking, while the Premier and Preferred Passholders receive free self-parking after their first visit. Universal Orlando Parking Preferred Passholders get 10% off dining and merchandise, while Premier Passholders get 15% off. All pass levels can save when purchasing Multi-Day theme park tickets for their family and friends. And all Passholders can also save 10% on VIP experiences! Not Using Your Pass Enough Of course, one of the biggest mistakes you can make as an Annual Passholder is not using your pass enough days! For reference, these are the prices for the 2-Park Annual Passes, according to Universal Orlando’s website: 2-Park Seasonal Pass — $425 2-Park Power Pass — $475 2-Park Preferred Pass — $630 2-Park Premier Pass — $905 Universal Studios Florida 1-Park tickets to Universal Studios Florida or Universal’s Islands of Adventure start at $119 per person, so to get your money’s worth out of your pass, you’d need to visit 4 days in a year for the Seasonal and Power passes, 6 days in a year for the Preferred Pass, and 8 days in a year for the Premier Pass. Of course, if you use the benefit of going to two parks in one day, you can get your value faster because those tickets start at $174 per day. Diagon Alley So those are the mistakes you need to avoid if you purchase a Universal Orlando Annual Pass. 21. June’s quickly approaching and some MASSIVE changes are coming to Disney World early in the month. Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios From the start of year-long refurbishments, to the ongoing retheming of a popular EPCOT attraction, to beginning to say goodbye to DinoLand, U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom — we’ve already seen lots happen at Disney World in 2025 and we’re not even halfway through the year. As we enter the OFFICIAL halfway point of the year, there’s still another big change coming and subsequent announcements that we expect to be delivered in June. As a reminder, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be undergoing a MASSIVE change in the coming years with the inclusion of a new Monsters, Inc. Land. The land will occupy the space that currently houses Muppets Courtyard. With that said, the Muppets are saying goodbye fairly soon. ©Disney June 7th will be the last day to experience both Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo before they’re removed PERMANENTLY to make way for the new land. On June 8th and after, we’ll be staying alert for updates on the new Monsters, Inc. Land construction progress, as well as what to expect when the land opens. Muppet*Vision 3D Additionally, we’re awaiting news on the future of The Muppets in Hollywood Studios. Disney also announced that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be getting a retheme to go from Aerosmith to The Muppets sometime in the future. We’re hoping to hear more about that timeline and what the new version of the ride will include. Disney has already stated that the ride will feature some of today’s biggest music stars, but we’re hoping to hear some elaboration in the near future. Disney also teased that Muppet*Vision 3D would be remembered in another form. Whether that means a special on Disney+ or something else remains to be seen. ©Disney We’ll continue to follow all the latest developments at Hollywood Studios and the rest of the Disney World Resort updates. so keep it posted right here at DFB to stay in the know! 22. Things are heating up for Orlando’s theme parks, and we’re not just talking about summer. Universal Orlando just opened a NEW theme park, Epic Universe. Disney World has expansions planned for three of its four parks. Even LEGOLAND Florida is updating some of its hotel rooms. SeaWorld Well, in an effort not to be left behind, The Orlando Business Journal reports that SeaWorld Orlando might also be getting a big expansion soon.
