While there are literally hundreds of possible Disney souvenirs you can pick up at the Magic Kingdom, our favorite MAY be a way to immortalize your favorite four-legged friend for about $20! Magic Kingdom Arribas refers to the silhouette as the 18th Century Selfie, writing that they are, “meticulously hand-cut by a skilled Walt Disney World artist. This unique keepsake, inspired by an 18th-century European art form, features your profile against your choice of a white or colored background, allowing you to own a piece of personalized artistry that blends tradition with the magic of Disney.” According to PlanDisney, pet silhouettes can be made at two Magic Kingdom locations: in Liberty Square by Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe, and on Main Street near Uptown Jewelers. According to the site, both dogs and cats can be done, “if you bring clear photos showing a side profile, and you will hold up your phone so the artist can create the portrait,” and two pets can even be combined in one photo. On top of that, for roughly $13 more, you can even add a dance frame to your selection. Silhouette Portrait Studio in Magic Kingdom If you’re looking for a way to immortalize your favorite pet at the Magic Kingdom, you can do so for just about $20! Universal Studios Florida has been changing big time! Universal Studios Florida Epic Universe has finally opened, Halloween Horror Nights is getting closer and closer, and one staple attraction is set to close. Change is always hard, but now we finally know when to brace for impact. Universal has finally confirmed the closing date for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, and we’ve got the details here. If you’re a huge coaster fan, you’ve probably ridden Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida. This coaster allows you to choose your own music to rock out to as it takes you over, under, and upside down on this crazy ride. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit This attraction opened originally in 2009 and has seen some changes over the years. We’ve known for a while that this classic attraction wasn’t long for this world, but now Universal has confirmed that the attraction will close permanently on August 18th, 2025. ©Universal Studios Florida This is a bit of a surprise as Universal had previously confirmed the ride would close in early September 2025. We do know that the ride isn’t just closing, but it’s actually being demolished to make way for the new experience replacing it. Universal has yet to reveal what will be taking its place and has only shared that more details will be available later. Rip Ride Rockit We are eager to see what will replace this larger-than-life attraction, especially because it is really the only thrill ride in Universal Studios aside from Escape from Gringotts. (Which many would argue isn’t a major thrill.) You can be sure that we will update you as soon as we know more! As always, be sure to keep following DFB for more Universal news and updates. Dear Star Wars fans, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is pretty devastating. Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios One of our favorite Star Wars actors has no plans to return to the franchise. Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, does not plan on returning to the franchise. ©IMDb In an interview with ComicBook, Hamill said, “I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars the most expensive low-budget movie ever made. We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.” Hamill kicked off the original series and starred in Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, which became one of the most iconic films to be released. There are now 12 films and plenty of TV shows all set within the Star Wars galaxy. ©Star Wars We remember sitting in the theater in 2019 and seeing Luke Skywalker on the big screen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Seeing Mark Hamill return for new fans was incredible and while we’re bummed he won’t be making any more appearances, he left a lasting legacy within the franchise. Mark Hamill signature on Hollywood Yard of Fame in Disney’s Hollywood Studios The next Star Wars movie to hit the screens will be The Mandalorian & Grogu on May 22nd, 2026. Grogu (well, he’ll always be Baby Yoda to us) will be featured alongside Pedro Pascal. ©Star Wars We’re always sharing what new Star Wars news you need, so make sure you’re following DFB for more! A new partnership could change the way you fly. Let’s go somewhere! JetBlue and United Airlines have partnered to offer a collaboration that allows travelers to earn bonus miles and loyalty benefits across both airlines. Priority boarding, complimentary access to preferred seats, and same-day flight changes are just part of the combined benefits. Get ready for Blue Sky: a new and unique collaboration between JetBlue and United Airlines that gives customers more options to find flights that fit their plans. Not only that, but there will be more opportunities for rewards members to earn and use MileagePlus miles and TrueBlue points across both airlines. JetBlue and United Announce Blue Sky: Unique Consumer Collaboration That Links Loyalty Programs Blue Sky will start rolling out as early as this fall, subject to regulatory review and approval, and will include the following: United’s MileagePlus customers can earn and use miles on most JetBlue flights. JetBlue offers 90 daily flights between the Northeast and the Caribbean this summer – with regular nonstop direct flights to popular islands like Aruba, Barbados, and Jamaica. JetBlue’s TrueBlue members can earn and use points for flights on United’s extensive domestic and international network, the largest across the Atlantic and Pacific that includes popular destinations like Cape Town and Tahiti. Each airline will offer flights on one another’s website and app to make booking across the two airlines’ complementary networks simple and easy. Blue Sky includes an interline agreement, not a codeshare, meaning each airline will continue to publish and market flights independently under its own brand and flight numbers. The benefits of each airline’s loyalty program – priority boarding, complimentary access to preferred and extra legroom seats and same-day standby/switch – will be available when customers travel on the other airline’s aircraft. As part of the airlines’ agreement, JetBlue will provide United access to slots at JFK International Airport for up to seven daily round-trip flights out of JFK Terminal 6 to begin as early as 2027. And, as part of a net-neutral exchange, JetBlue and United will exchange eight flight timings at Newark. United will move its website and mobile app’s ability to sell hotels, rental cars, cruises and travel insurance, on both a stand-alone and package basis, to new technology and services provided by JetBlue’s Paisly platform. ©JetBlue Joanna Geraghty, CEO of JetBlie, said, “This collaboration with United is a bold step forward for the industry — one that brings together two customer-focused airlines to deliver more choices for travelers and value across our networks.” “Blue Sky reflects our airlines’ shared focus on innovation and the customer experience,” said United CEO Scott Kirby. This infographic summarizes some of the benefits customers will enjoy over time*. JetBlue and United will share more details about the timing of these features later this year. As part of BlueSky, members of each airline’s loyalty program will find similar benefits over time — as well as reciprocal revenue-based miles and points accrual and reciprocal miles and points redemption — when they use and earn miles or points on the partner airlines. Timing for these reciprocal benefits will be announced later this year. ©Getty Images Whether flying on United or JetBlue in the future, customers will receive benefits in line with what they receive now, including: Priority treatment for check-in, boarding, security, and baggage Access to preferred and extra legroom seats Free first checked bag Same-day changes and switches ©JetBlue Both loyalty programs are free to join, and miles/points never expire. The two airlines also announced that United will move its website and mobile app’s ability to sell hotels, rental cars, cruises, and travel insurance to JetBlue’s Paisly platform. Hopefully, this partnership will make flying to Disney World even easier! ©United Looking for help planning your next Disney vacation? ATTENTION TRAVELERS: Southwest Airlines has announced a MAJOR rule change that could affect one of the most popular categories of travel accessories. ©Southwest Airlines Beginning on May 28th, passengers on Southwest flights are required to keep portable phone chargers and power banks visible while in use during flights, with the use of said devices prohibited while they’re stored in carry-on bags or overhead bins. The objective of the move is an attempt to mitigate the risk of fire fueled by lithium-ion batteries, which power the banks by keeping them in sight so any overheating issues can quickly extinguished. Southwest released a statement to CNET about the new policy, saying “Southwest will introduce a first-in-industry safety policy on May 28th requiring customers to keep portable charging devices visible while in use during flight. Using portable charging devices while stored in a bag or overhead bin will no longer be permitted. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of its customers and employees.” Southwest’s new rule comes on the heels of several major incidents in recent year. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there were a record 89 lithium-ion battery-related events on flights in 2024, and over 20 more in 2025 so far. ©Amazon In addition, in January of 2025 there was a highly publicized lithium-ion-related fire on a South Korean Air Busan flight that led to the evacuation of 176 people, including passengers and crew. In that case, the plane had been waiting to take off. Had it been in the air, the situation could have been much worse. That Air Busan incident has led to new policies on Asia-based carriers, including Singapore Airlines, AirAsia and all South Korean airlines, almost all of which are similar to Southwest’s new rule. These airline rules actually go further than the official guidelines of the FAA and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). While these agencies do currently require lithium-powered devices, like power banks in carry-on luggage and prohibit them in checked bags, they do NOT mandate that portable chargers be kept in plain sight while in use. ©Anker According to a spokesperson for Southwest, the airline plans to alert customers about the policy before their flight and ask for their compliance. David Wroth, who studies the risks for safety-science company UL Standards & Engagement and works with 37 airlines and battery manufacturers to minimize potential risks, argues that Southwest’s approach to customers is probably for the best. As he put it, “Ultimately, it comes down to a lot of personal responsibility that we as passengers have to take. We have enough problems with unruly passengers already. And having cabin crew confront somebody over bringing something on board is not likely to be a good situation as well.” ©Southwest Airlines If you’re flying Southwest after May 28th, anytime you use a lithium-ion charger or power battery, you’ll need to keep it within sight of the flight crew at all times. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the airline industry. How Early Should You REALLY Get To Orlando Airport (MCO)? Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! We’re ripping open the Epic Universe reporter’s notebook and looking back through notations made during the earliest days of Orlando’s newest theme park. There are random creative-type quotes, operational observations, gentle suggestions and more. Surprisingly, the world named How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk dominates the pages, so we’ll start there and make our way around Epic with thoughts. • A design feature of the theater for the “The Untrainable Dragon” show in Berk deserves applause. Audience members enter from both sides of the hall, so when folks are instructed to fill in all available space, they’re walking toward the center — best seats in the house — from both sides. In other theme-park theaters, early birds must go all the way across to less desirable seats on the edge. • I haven’t seen many photos from this spot: Top of the tower at center the Viking Training Camp. It’s a playground but available to grown-ups. It has unique views of Epic, including side-by-side coaster perspectives of Hiccup’s Wing Gliders with the neighboring Stardust Racers. On the way up, there are dragon-themed viewing stations (“Dragon-vision”), and on the ground floor is a sheep-launching game named “Baa-llista.” Dragon Racer's Rally rider glide through the sky at Epic Universe. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)• Hiccup’s Wing Gliders has pleasant surprises. Visitors see flashy parts of the ride from solid ground, but there’s more to discover. Its neighbor is Dragon Racer’s Rally, an aerial, swinging, (foreshadowing alert) gliding attraction. If there were a Berk suggestion box, one might submit “Swap the names of the two rides.” • For the first time, Universal Orlando did full wardrobe design and procurement in-house. In the past, there have been third-party experts to do patterns, then modifications, then testing, lather, rinse, repeat. “It was a huge, huge win — less transit, less expensive because of that,” Jeff Polk, executive vice president/Epic general manager, said. “The better aspect of it was we were able to take local knowledge about what fabrics work, how we vent the backs of wardrobe and how it fits for, like, normal humans.” There were 500,000 garments made, he said. And there are options for park workers, Polk said, pointing to the Viking-inspired garb of Berk. “They can mix and match tops and bottoms, and they’ve got kilts and tunics, and they have little hats, and they’ve got big coats,” Polk said. “We make stuff out of very lightweight, breathable, vented fabrics that look really heavy, but they’re not.” • Sign near a coming-soon area of Epic: “Pardon our star dust.” • Absent from the blue-carpet lineup for the night-before-opening ceremonies: Orlando Magic or Orlando City Soccer Club players. Although there were other pro athletes there including Brook Lopez (Milwaukee Bucks), Ryan McDonagh (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Kirk Cousins (Atlanta Falcons). With a Disney logo on the Magic jersey and in soccer stadium rafters, it might not have been a smart visual. Magic star Paolo Banchero did make an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show while that crew, part of the Comcast corporate family, was in town. Tom Williams, former chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts attends a grand opening event for Epic Universe. (Gerardo Mora/Getty Images)• Making the carpet scene was Tom Williams, former chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts, who retired in 2022 after more than 30 years with the company. Williams was in charge when Epic was announced in 2019. • On a pre-daybreak drive to the park, I crested the hill/ramp/roundabout that goes from Kirkman Road to Epic Boulevard, and there stood the domed Helios Grand Hotel with a gentle bit of shimmer. It’s hokey to say, but I did get that dawn of a new era vibe. • I was iffy about the shiny exterior of Stella Nova resort until I saw it up close. Its individual brick-like tiles are more stunning outside of the car. • Also in that neighborhood, passers-by can see the backside of Mine-Cart Madness, the Super Nintendo World coaster. From the park side, it’s quite a strudy looking temple. From outside/backstage, it looks thin and fragile. It’s both fascinating and underwhelming. It’s not always fun to spoil the magic for yourself. • I chatted up Gregory Hall, assistant director for creative design with Universal Creative, about the making of Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, the major ride of Dark Universe. He talked about the attraction’s animatronics sharing the stage. “Trying to make a balance was a true challenge. We didn’t want to make one figure that we’re telling people what to like,” Hall said. “We want to make a moment where it’s unique every time they see a new figure or a new monster.” But can we talk about curiously barefoot Dracula? He laughed. “I need another hour to tell you.” • Finally, a flashback to an old Halloween Horror Nights exercise, where I would ask creators to describe each haunted house using just two works. This time, Patrick Braillard, senior show writer (and HHN alum), gave his two cents’ worth the Epic lands. Celestial Park? “Recharge … and rejuvenate – notwithstanding Stardust Racers,” Braillard says. Super Nintendo World? “Joyful play. Or chaotic play. It’s really fun.” Dark Universe? “Unexpected lore. Because I think that people, over time, will discover more layers of the storytelling that’s been done in that world.” Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic? “Breathtaking scope. That world is crazy.” How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk? “Dragons galore. It’s so much fun walking through there because it’s always activated. The land looks alive, and you’ve got so many fun things that the dragons are doing.” It’s a strain to limit writers to two words, clearly. “I gave you two … and my justification,” Braillard laughed. • Trend: People telling me there’s been too much talk about Epic Universe … whilst asking me questions about Epic Universe. True, there’s been a lot from many outlets. There will be more. Soon I’ll be asking for input for a wish list for the park for a future column. Crazy and creative is fun, but I’ll want sane suggestions too. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. Threads account: @dbevil. X account: @themeparks. Surprise! We’re back at Epic Universe (okay, we no that literally no one is surprised because we keep going back). Atlantic You see, we’re on a mission. That mission is to try ALL the food we can in Universal Orlando’s theme park, and there are still some things we haven’t managed to get to yet (our stomachs are only so big, y’all). So we’re heading back to Atlantic, which you’ll find in Celestial Park, to try this burger that we’ve heard a lot of good things about. Join us as we take a bite or two and give you our honest thoughts. For a little bit of background, Atlantic is a full-service restaurant in Celestial Park specializing in steak and seafood. So you might think there would be a really good burger here, too, right? That’s why we ordered the The Atlantic Burger “Au Poivre” for $22. This burger is made with a Half Pound Custom Blend Beef, Asiago Peppercorn Cheese, Peppercorn Sauce, Watercress, Shaved Red Onion, and House Made Sesame Bun, and served with Thick Cut Fries. Okay, so it looks good, right? The Atlantic Burger “Au Poivre” So first up, as the description says, this is a custom blend of beef for this restaurant. We asked for ours to be cooked medium, so there was a little pink in the center. Also, note that the peppercorn sauce has a nice low heat to it — it’s not super spicy, but you just kinda get a hint that it’s there. We don’t think it would be too overwhelming for folks unless they’re super spice-averse. It’s a burger The peppercorn cheese was a hit for us, and we liked the flavor and crunch the onions added, but well, the rest of this burger didn’t really impress. For starters, the watercress on the burger tastes like spinach, and that’s probably just because of the way it’s cooked, but we didn’t care for it. Inside But here’s where the burger really lost us. There was something else in that sauce that we found off-putting. We tried dipping our fries in it, we tried dipping the burger in it…it was just not happening for us. That could be a personal thing, though, but we were not thrilled. We didn’t care for the sauce Overall, this really felt like a run-of-the-mill burger that was dressed up a little. It was an okay meal. That’s it. Especially for a $22 burger. We think there are better items on the menu here to order, especially given the focus on steak and seafood, so we’d probably skip the burger if we ate here again. Stay tuned to DFB for more. If you’ve been following Disney Food Blog for a while, you know that if a drink has a cool presentation, we have to try it. We like to ensure it tastes just as good as it looks, and over in Disneyland, once we saw this drink, we had to have it. Disneyland Hotel We got a few drinks at the Disneyland Hotel and we’re spilling all the details! Over at the Broken Spell Lounge, we had the Benevolent Faerie for $22. This is a drink trio, each featuring a vanilla bean-infused Golden Eagle vodka with distinct flavors, including Giffard banana liqueur, pineapple juice, lemon juice, honey, coconut syrup, and edible glitters. Broken Spell Lounge has tie-ins to Sleeping Beauty, and it looks like each drink represents Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. Benevolent Faerie Starting with green, this drink is for the mint lovers! The vanilla vodka in this drink had a thicker texture and a heavier vodka flavor compared to the others. We think mint julep fans are going to have this as their favorite! Green potion The middle one has a fruity, blueberry taste on the artificial side. The vodka was more subtle, and the banana liquor added more to the fruity flavor. Purple potion The red drink had a floral, fresh flavor reminiscent of hibiscus. It was sweet and had the strongest alcohol taste, but the hibiscus flavoring cut down on the harshness. The pineapple brought a tart flavor, and overall, this was our favorite of the three. Red potion How could we say no to this glitter? The presentation was beautiful, but the flavors matched, making this a fun trio to try next time you’re at Broken Spell Lounge. Beautiful! We can’t wait to go back for more, so make sure you’re following Disney Food Blog for more of the best Disney food reviews. We’ve got bad news for TV fans out there. ©Amazon It’s not uncommon to see TV shows canceled throughout the year, as some fail to reach the viewership the show aimed for, costs become too high, or, at other times, the reasons are unknown. If you were fans of either of these Prime Video shows, we’re sorry to tell you that they won’t be returning for another season. Variety just reported that Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time will not be returning for a fourth season. This is a fantasy series inspired by a book series of the same name. It followed “Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of an incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, who embarks on a global journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.” ©Prime Video The series was produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, but the story isn’t totally over for this media. In April, it was reported that Iwot Studios was making The Wheel of Time into a video game that would expand on the global success of the TV series. At this time, it appears that the game is still in development, and will be for about three years. ©Amazon Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Prime Video’s series The Bondsman, starring Kevin Bacon, would not be returning for a season two. The eight episode series debuted on April 3rd and debuted at number 9 on Nielsen’s streaming charts with 563 million minutes watched, however, it exited the charts soon after and didn’t appear again. ©Prime Video The series followed Hub Halloran (Kevin Bacon), a former country music star and murdered bounty hunter, who gets a second shot at life when the Devil resurrects him to catch demons who have escaped from Hell. The series also starred Jennifer Nettles, Damon Herriman, Beth Grant, and Maxwell Jenkins. More Recent Media News! There are SO many places to get coffee around Disney World — from quick-service locations to actual Starbucks locations. But the one brand we keep coming back to in Disney World is Joffrey’s! Joffrey’s Coffee Stand Joffrey’s is a STAPLE Disney World coffee brand. If you haven’t been to Joffrey’s while you’re at Disney, it’s time to change that on your next visit! Joffrey’s Coffee kiosks typically serve frozen and iced coffee, unique specialty drinks, and HUGE donuts. If you’re an Annual Passholder, you actually get discounts at all Joffrey locations! You’ll find them in different spots at all four Disney World parks, Disney Springs, and around Disney hotels. We recently went to one of our go-to locations, as we always do, and got a drink we had to share with you! Joffrey’s in Tomorrowland! Introducing the Frozen Cappuccino Dream for $6.99. Look at this and tell us it doesn’t look like a dream coffee! Frozen Cappuccino Dream! When we drank it, it tasted just like a frozen sweet cappuccino. It was both milky and sweet, yet it still had that strong coffee flavor — so don’t worry, you’ll still get that coffee taste despite the sweetness of the drink. It’s definitely a great refreshing treat, especially if you’re looking for that caffeine kick! It was so sweet! It came with lots of fluffy whipped cream on top, and seriously, who doesn’t love whipped cream?! If you aren’t necessarily a sweet coffee drinker, we already mentioned this was on the sweeter side, and there’s nothing that can really be changed about that. Basically, the drink comes pre-made, so you won’t be able to make any adjustments! Look at all the whipped cream! All in all, if you are looking for a tasty and cold coffee drink, this is what we would recommend — it’s perfect for that! If you’re a little more picky, you don’t want that sweetness, and you like to have your coffee a certain way by deciding how much milk and sugar you want — this drink probably won’t satisfy you. Hey, you can always give it a try, though, you might enjoy it! Joffrey’s at EPCOT Next time you go to Disney World, give this a try. There are Joffrey’s kiosks everywhere; they’re almost hard to miss! Some of our favorite Joffrey spots are the ones located in front of the park, before you enter. Each of the four parks has one at the front entrance, and it makes it easy to get a morning coffee before a busy day! Joffrey’s in EPCOT WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered! We have reviewed nearly EVERY snack available at Disney World, and we’ve written a series of DFB Guides about them! Check out our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining + Snacks Bundle for all the details you need to plan your snackin’ and spending. Disney is busy, busy, busy! Walt Disney World From Disneyland turning 70 to Disney World working on building new worlds, there’s a lot of change happening. That’s why it’s time for our weekly news round-up so you can stay in the know! If you’re anything like us, you eat, sleep, and breathe Disney! There’s always so much happening with the Walt Disney Company, so we like to do a little wrap-up of the biggest highlights of the week so we (and you) can stay totally informed. This week was a big one for Disney World, starting off with the confirmation of a returning favorite! Florida Citrus mural in Disney Springs Disney Springs Flavors of Florida is back in 2025! This celebration is inspired by the Sunshine State and will run from June 27th to August 10th, 2025. Orange and Watermelon Dole Whip at Swirls on the Water Eateries and restaurants all around Disney Springs will showcase MORE THAN 90 limited-time dishes and drinks from 45+ restaurants for this event, and we are so excited to see it back! The event also features a Free Culinary Series hosted by Kroger and special events that pair with it that are bookable. Key Lime Pie Shake from 2024 There’s so much we love about this event and are very ready to eat and shop till we drop when it starts in June. Read More About Flavors of Florida Here Next up, two new shows finally opened in Disney World! After years of waiting, Ariel finally returned to Hollywood Studios in The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure on May 27th, 2025. The Little Mermaid The show follows Ariel through the story from The Little Mermaid! It has live performers, amazing puppets, and was seeing some pretty impressive wait times on opening day. Down the street, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After also opened on the same day! Captain Hook This show follows Captain Hook, Maleficent, and Cruella De Vil as they try to convince the audience that their stories were told unfairly! They were misrepresented! Throughout the show, they each plead their case (along with some other villains who show up), and at the end, you get to decide who was treated the most unfairly. Maleficent in Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After The audience votes for which villain received a bad edit, meaning that the show comes with three alternative endings! It’s such a fun addition to the park, and we love that both shows have a little something for almost everyone. Read Our Thoughts On The New Villains Show Here Now, we’ve saved the big news for last! We finally know that Disney’s brand-new nighttime parade will debut on July 20th, 2025! ©Disney Disney Starlight is the name of the new parade in Magic Kingdom. So it’s no secret that some of our favorite dining in Disney World is actually not in the parks and is, in fact, at Disney World hotels. Grand Floridian Resort Okay, that shouldn’t come as a big surprise because people have been going on about restaurants like Boma at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for years. One Disney World hotel restaurant even has a Michelin Star (yep, that would be Victoria & Albert’s). Well, we’re headed to that very same hotel, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, to try out its quick service location, Gasparilla Island Grill. Atmosphere Gasparilla Island Grill is the quick service location at the Grand Floridian. The entrance is located on the first floor from the hotel’s outdoor paths. Gasparilla Island Grill entrance You’ll order your food at a counter and then pick up any utensils and condiments from other stations. You’ll also find a variety of bakery items in a case. It’s a counter service location Note that this is also where you can get a Refillable Resort Mug for unlimited refills (this is also where you’ll get your refills. There is also some booth seating, as well as tables and chairs, inside, so you can sit and enjoy your food and drinks in the a/c. Some outdoor seating is also available. Everything you need for a quick meal But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu The menu here is pretty much standard counter service fare. You’ve got flatbreads, some specialty entrees, and a burger. ©Disney You can also pick up a variety of sandwiches and salads. ©Disney Currently, only one plant-based option is available, but there is a good selection of sides and Kids’ Meals. ©Disney You can also pick up your choice of dessert… ©Disney …and bakery and snack items. ©Disney Beverages include coffee, soft drinks, cocktails, beer, and wine. Eats We wanted to try a few new menu items, so we grabbed the Chicken Bowl, which includes Black Bean and Corn Salad, Lemon Rice, and Cilantro-Lime Sauce for $14.49. We noticed that the chicken on top of the bowl was a little dry, but underneath were some nice, moist pieces. The rice was good and you get plenty, although we kinda wanted more to mix it up with our veggies. Chicken Bowl You get a lot of veggies, too. But we do have a warning. Cilantro, which is something people either love or hate, is also part of this dish, so you might want to reconsider if you’re on the “it tastes like soap” side of the debate. The veggies were tasty, and overall, everything with this bowl works well together. Pretty tasty We also tried the Barbacoa Bowl, which includes Black Bean and Corn Salad, Lemon Rice, and Cilantro-Lime Sauce for $16.49. Yep, both of these bowls are the same, save for the choice of meat. The meat in this bowl was very dry and a little too salty for our tastes, so if we had to choose, we’d go for the chicken bowl. Barbacoa Bowl Granted, the rest of the bowl is good and the same as the Chicken Bowl. You’ve got nice veggies and rice. But this one is a heavier meal. The meat is dry. We also decided to grab the Roast Beef Sandwich for $13.99. It’s made with Roast Beef, Horseradish Aïoli, Caramelized Onion Jam, Crispy Onions, Swiss Cheese, and Arugula on House-made Ciabatta. So our reporter was nervous trying this because he’s not a fan of onions or horseradish, but was pleasantly surprised with the flavors of this sandwich. You can’t really taste the horseradish, so maybe that’s why. There also wasn’t a strong overall onion flavor. Roast Beef Sandwich You also get a lot of meat on this sandwich, so you’re getting your money’s worth. There’s also a lot of cheese, and, well…you know how much we love cheese. Lots of meat You get a choice of fries or chips with the sandwich, and we went with the fries. Honestly, Disney World fries always slap for us, so there’s that. Fries So what did we think overall? Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You want a quick meal. If you’re looking for a quick meal and don’t want to spend time waiting in a table service restaurant, you can get it here. You’re staying at the Grand Floridian. If you’re staying at the hotel, it makes sense you’d want to grab a quick bite to eat here when you need some sustenance. You’re on a budget. You might be shocked by the prices of some of the other dining spots at the Grand Floridian, so this is probably the cheapest place to eat at this hotel. You should skip this Disney World spot if… You aren’t staying at the Grand Floridian. If you’re not staying at this hotel, it wouldn’t make sense to travel all the way here for a quick service meal. You want a table service dining experience. The Grand Floridian has some top-notch table service restaurants, including Victoria & Albert’s with its Michelin star, so if you want a nice date night meal or want to celebrate a special occasion, this is probably not where you’d want to do that. You want more variety. We’ll be honest. There isn’t a lot to choose from here, and if you want something plant-based, you’re really out of luck. Full spread Overall We’ll say Gasparilla Island Grill is probably good in a pinch if you’re looking for a fast meal and you happen to be at the Grand Floridian. Now, it’s obvious that folks don’t usually come to the Grand Floridian for a quick service meal when you’ve got some great table service locations to choose from, but if you’re staying here or find yourself hungry and here, you’ll probably be satisfied with your meal. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more! Some Disney World Lightning Lanes simply aren’t worth your time OR your money. Lightning Lane at Peter Pan’s Flight When you’re paying money for Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you’ll want to make sure you get the most value by booking Lightning Lanes that will ACTUALLY save you time spent waiting in line. Typically, it’s easy to figure out which Lightning Lanes will be useful — they’re the ones for the rides with the highest wait times. But which Lightning Lanes do the experts refuse to book? We’ve got the list. Mickey’s PhilharMagic Starting off this list, we’ve got Mickey’s PhilharMagic, which is an adorable show starring Donald Duck as he “borrows” Mickey’s sorcerer hat and gets sent on musical adventures throughout several Disney films. It’s in 3D and it’s definitely an attraction we’d recommend if you have time. However, you probably don’t need to use your Lightning Lane Multi Pass for this show. Mickey’s PhilharMagic Why not? Well, the wait time is rarely longer than the length of one show, which means that pretty much everyone will be waiting in the same holding area, and your Lightning Lane won’t give you any kind of special access. Now, if the wait time is 30 or 45 minutes, you’ll be waiting through multiple shows — in that case, you might want to use Multi Pass (but that’s not super common!). Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor The same thing goes for Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor over in Tomorrowland. This 10-minute show features Mike Wazowski and Roz as the hosts, while other monsters come in and try to make everyone laugh. But like PhilharMagic, its wait time is only about as long as it takes for the show before yours to finish. Lightning Lane for Laugh Floor There are times when the wait can get long, like on particularly crowded days. If you see the line out the door, you may want to book a Lightning Lane. Otherwise, you’re safe to just wait 10 minutes for this one. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Now it’s time for our first ride of the list! Magic Carpets of Aladdin is a Dumbo-style attraction that lets you fly above Adventureland on carpets like Aladdin and Jasmine. Of the spinner-style rides, this one tends to have the lowest wait, so using the Lightning Lane entrance doesn’t get you as much value over here. Lightning Lane However, you might want to consider using a Lightning Lane for this ride if it’s a must-do for your littles, the wait is unusually long, or it’s a particularly hot day. The queue is entirely outdoors, and it gets TOASTY. The Barnstormer Our last choice is The Barnstormer in Storybook Circus! Like the other attractions, there are rare occasions when a Lightning Lane might be beneficial for this ride, but for the most part, the wait time stays low. The Barnstormer The coaster is only 30 seconds long, so the line tends to move pretty quickly. If it’s a must-do for your kids or the wait is climbing up higher, you can book a Lightning Lane for this one later in the day (it’s definitely not one of the first ones you’ll want to book). And a BONUS Tip You may be surprised that Mad Tea Party isn’t on this list — that’s because we recommend booking it as your “burner” Lightning Lane. What’s a “burner Lightning Lane?” Well, when you book your Lightning Lanes initially in Magic Kingdom, you’ll be able to choose ONE Tier 1 attraction and TWO Tier 2 attractions. (Or three from Tier 2 if you’re not interested in the popular rides.) Mad Tea Party Once you scan into your first Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection for the day, the tiers will no longer be relevant, and you’ll be able to book whatever is available in the park. That’s why we recommend choosing Mad Tea Party! If you can get this Lightning Lane for the first hour of your park day, you’ll be able to scan in and then immediately start searching for Lightning Lanes for those popular rides that you haven’t snagged already. It’s a great strategy! Mad Tea Party Lightning Lane In the end, if you’re going to spend the extra $$ to purchase Lightning Lanes in Disney World, you want to have a good strategy! Try out these tips on your next vacation. For more tips and hacks to use with Lightning Lanes, check out our YouTube video below. Stay tuned to DFB for more help with Lightning Lanes in Disney World! Well, it’s really happening, and we’re having a hard time saying goodbye. Muppet*Vision 3D Muppets Courtyard has been slowly closing to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’ve already seen the closure of Mama Melrose’s, but on June 7th, both PizzeRizzo (okay, maybe we won’t miss the rat pizza joint) and Muppet*Vision 3D will close forever. Now, we’re going to miss Muppet*Vision 3D A LOT, even if the Muppets are eventually taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We’re not the only ones…a Broadway star recently recorded his own tribute to Muppet*Vision 3D…and yes, it will make you laugh AND cry. Broadway star Andrew Barth Feldman is an actor and singer who played the title role in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway. Not only did he appear as a guest star on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, but he also has credits in several movies, including A Tourist’s Guide to Love and No Hard Feelings. He also happens to be a talented singer, songwriter, and musician, and he penned a special song to pay tribute to Muppet*Vision 3D. Oh, and he also filmed an ENTIRE MUSIC VIDEO that kinda sums up how we ALL feel about the loss of this attraction. Yep, that sums it up beautifully, right? We are excited about the new Monsters, INC. land and the ride based on the doors scene in the movie (like, we’ve wanted that ride FOREVER), but we are sad to see Muppet*Vision 3D go away. At least we’ll be reunited with Kermit and the gang once Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is re-themed. ©Disney We’ll be in Muppets Courtyard on June 7th to say goodbye, so be sure to follow us for that coverage. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 6 Muppets Secrets To Find in Disney World BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe!
