This new vacation gives travelers the opportunity to experience the beauty of four countries – France, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. But river cruising is not the only big news. For 2017, Adventures by Disney also announced several other new itinerary choices, including enhancements to the already popular China and Australia vacations. In Australia, travelers will now enjoy time on the beautiful Gold Coast, including kayaking on Bryon Bay, whale watching, an excursion to Mt. Tamborine and more. Recently, I had a chance to check out the “World of Color” Dessert Party with my friend and fellow Disney Parks Blog author, Erin Glover. We were thrilled to be able to experience this new offering! We checked in for the dessert party at 9 p.m. across from The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure in Disney California Adventure park for our 9:45 showing of “World of Color – Celebrate!” Our reserved section, which was located to the left of Carthay Circle Restaurant Dining Package viewing area, offered a spectacular view of Paradise Pier. Once we were seated, our server offered a selection of beverages including champagne, sparkling cider, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and soft drinks. Delicious desserts, beautifully plated on china, included a selection of cheeses including Brie, mild cheddar and Manchego, accompanied by a bread basket, seedless green grapes, a Chocolate Mocha Bundt Cake, Mickey Coconut Macaroon, a waffle bowl with berries and lime-yogurt mousse, mini French macaron and my personal favorite, a Dulce de Leche-filled shortbread cookie. As you can see, we had the opportunity enjoy plenty of delectable treats. Tip: if you don’t finish your desserts, feel free to ask for a to-go box! After a long day in the parks, it was wonderful to be able to sit back, relax and enjoy a breathtaking view of “World of Color – Celebrate!” with great company. If you’d like to indulge in the magic of the “World of Color” Dessert Party, make your reservations by visiting Disneyland.com/dine or calling 714-781-DINE. View the full article

Are you ready for some new Disney shows, fireworks and attractions? This summer will bring sun and a whole lot more fun to each of our four parks at Walt Disney World Resort. A series of openings will begin Memorial Day Weekend, so let the countdown to Memorial Day Weekend begin! Here’s what’s on tap for each location. Guests can enjoy a plethora of new experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom starting Memorial Day Weekend. The Tree of Life will begin its nighttime awakenings after the sun goes down – check out a sneak peek video of what to expect here. The park will also host two new parties, Harambe Wildlife Parti and Discovery Island Carnivale, as well as the new “The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic” water show, which will bring the tale of Baloo and Mowgli to Discovery River each night. Also beginning Memorial Day Weekend, guests will be able to enjoy many of the park’s existing attractions in the evening hours for the very first time. Kilimanjaro Safaris will be open for guests to get a glimpse of the savanna’s animal occupants as the sun goes down, and of course guests can rediscover favorites like Expedition Everest and Primeval Whirl in the dark. The park hours have already been extended, which means FastPass+ plans can be made now in the MyDisneyExperience App. Two new F&B locations, Tiffins restaurant and Nomad Lounge, will also open their doors on Memorial Day Weekend. (Reservations and dining packages haven’t been released yet, but as soon as they are we’ll post an update). Guests can also cool off in a whole new way at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park this Memorial Day Weekend, with the start of the Frozen Games. In this experience, Olaf and Kristoff will host daily winter-themed activities for guests of all ages, including Snowball Toss, Ski Pole Limbo and more. All activities are complimentary, but guests must sign up at the park entrance to participate. Of course Disney’s Animal Kingdom isn’t the only Walt Disney World Resort theme park adding new experiences this summer. Starting in June, Magic Kingdom Park will debut a brand-new stage show called “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” this June. In the show, Mickey and his band of Merry Makers are preparing to host a joyous festival and invite friends like Tiana, Naveen and Louis (from “Princess and the Frog”); Rapunzel and Flynn (from “Tangled”); and Olaf, Anna and Elsa (from “Frozen”); along for some fun. In June, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will make theme park history when it launches the most elaborate nighttime spectacular the park has ever seen with the new “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular” fireworks show. This new nightly show will combine fireworks and pyrotechnics with video projections that will turn the surrounding buildings into familiar Star Wars destinations. The show will end with a tower of fire and spotlight beams that create massive lightsabers in the sky. And of course, Epcot will debut three exciting additions in June. Soarin’ Around the World, a new version of the popular attraction located in The Land pavilion, will take guests on a journey to far-flung lands, over some of the world’s most unique natural landscapes and man-made wonders. And the Norway pavilion will open Frozen Ever After, the first attraction inspired by the film “Frozen” that will transport guests on an icy adventure through the Kingdom of Arendelle. Guests can also stop at the nearby Royal Sommerhus to see the sisters themselves. Which new experience are you most excited about? Tell us in the comments section below or share it with us on Twitter with the hashtag #AwakenSummer. View the full article

You know, there are few better ways — especially while Soarin’ is still undergoing refurb — to start a day at Epcot than a visit to Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion. Learn About: Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie Epcot Restaurants Disney World Restaurants Even though we talk about Les Halles a lot here on the DFB (it’s one of our Favorite Epcot Restaurants, after all), it still comes as a surprise to lots of guests that you can indeed start your day at Epcot here. Unique among World Showcase counter service eateries, Les Halles opens at 9:00 am, whereas the rest open along with World Showcase at 11:00AM daily. (Future World spots like Fountain View and Sunshine Seasons are the places you can find breakfast items upon Epcot’s typical 9:00AM opening). Now, you may think it’s all sweet treats at Les Halles, and if you want to start your day with Mousse au Chocolat, a Napoleon, or even a coffee-infused Café Liégeois, then have at it — you’re on vacation! Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion But there is a savory little gem we’d like to bring to your attention today, if you haven’t yet sampled this Les Halles staple for yourself: it’s the Roule Lard et Fromage. Roulé Lard and Fromage That’s rolled Bacon and Cheese. Or a Bacon and Cheese Roll. Or Roll combining the two greatest ingredients on earth. Roulé Lard and Fromage I think the translation is something close to that ;). If the name alone doesn’t convince you (Cheese! Pastry! BACON!!), let’s take a closer look! The first glance confirms the presence of both of the star ingredients, with bubbly cheese baked on top of pinwheeled bread and dotted with pieces of bacon. Roulé Lard and Fromage And while you can’t argue with any of that, things get much more impressive as you peel the wheel of the roll layer by layer, revealing that the chunks of bacon aren’t limited to the smattering on top, but are actually generously baked in between every… Roulé Lard and Fromage Single… Roulé Lard and Fromage spiral layer Layer… Roulé Lard and Fromage spiral layer … right down to the last bite! Final bite of the Roulé Lard and Fromage The cheese is sprinkled on with some restraint, making the Roule far more about the bacon. The flavors come together well, with the use of a fairly mild cheese balancing the salt of the bacon and the buttery taste of the soft bread. It’s a nice use of a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan, for sure, but at $3.95, it’s not a bad out of pocket deal at all considering how hearty and tasty it is. Between the bread and the surprising amount of meat packed in the roll, it makes for a truly filling breakfast. (I should note, though, that these are sold throughout the day, so if you’re craving some bacon as a later day snack or a mini “Brinner,” this could do the trick for ya!) So there’s your friendly reminder to be sure to give a good scan to ALL the options in that Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie bakery case… you may just find a new favorite! The steamboat at Disney Springs, formerly known as Fulton’s Crab House, gets a bow-to-stern transformation and offers a whole new seafood-centric dining experience, opening in Fall 2016 for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Paddlefish will serve fresh seafood, steaks and chops, a catch of the day, and composed seafood entrees such as lobster risotto with poached Maine lobster, saffron and Meyer lemon oil and redfish with coconut milk, crab broth, tomato, peppers and ginger. (No worries, fan favorites including Florida stone crab, Alaskan King and Queen crab, and lobster corn dogs will be back.) A fun new addition is lobster guacamole made tableside with Maine Lobster, chilies, cilantro, lime and tortilla chips. And there’s a “build-your-own boil” so you can pick your own ingredients and seasonings. The sleek and modern design of Paddlefish includes a new rooftop lounge, open until 2 a.m., with spectacular views of Disney Springs and the water. The lounge will have a separate menu of eclectic dishes perfect for sharing. Stay tuned for more details. View the full article

The runDisney 2016 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend presented by PANDORA Jewelry is days away, taking place May 5–8 at the Disneyland Resort, and this year’s merchandise selection is sure to fly off the shelves. So let’s get started! Can you believe it’s been 5 Years Running? Themed Tinker Bell Half Marathon apparel will include this special nod to the runDisney event on ever-popular favorites like the “I Did It” tee, performance tees, tanks, shorts and ladies zip jacket. One of my favorite features is the subtly screened tonal silhouette of Tinker Bell that appears on the front or the back of several items. I like to think it gives us all a little extra pixie power. This year the Never Land 5K fans will be hooked, quite literally — the graphic features both Captain Hook and Peter Pan, while the “I Did It” Tinker Bell 10K fans will be filled with pixie power with help from some of Tinker Bell’s fairy friends. Are you participating in the Pixie Dust Challenge? Short sleeve tees, performance wear, a tank, ladies jacket have made the list of this particular spirited sprite. Other items to race in for include the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend event tee, jacket, Capri pants, runDisney and runDisney Coast to Coast Race Challenge merchandise, hats, magnets, clings, pins, headbands, special artist sketches and an array of drinkware including water bottles, a tumbler, glass stemware and mug. As you can see, that’s not quite all. Keep an eye out for charms from PANDORA Jewelry including a runDisney dangle and the newest addition featuring Tinker Bell as she waves her magic wand over a star charm that reminds us that all we need is “Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust.” Fashioned in sterling silver by PANDORA, this enchanting charm is accented in green and clear sparkling cubic zirconia. Tip: Look for other exciting offerings from PANDORA Jewelry, including bracelet building with expert stylists, an opportunity to take a photo in front of wings that make you feel like you can fly and more. I have no doubt the teams will also have you racing into D Street in the Downtown Disney District for special D-Tech on Demand phone cases themed to each race. Take a look! Finally, Dooney & Bourke and runDisney fans – I have what you’ve been waiting for … a look at the nylon with leather trim accent silhouettes for the shopper tote, wristlet and letter carrier. Remember, each piece is quite unique and pattern elements on each bag can vary. I love the overall look, don’t you? So get a jump on your shopping list and be ready when the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo takes flight beginning Thursday, May 5, at the Disneyland Hotel. To all of you participating in the race, I wish you all the best of luck with a sprinkle of pixie dust! View the full article

With two decades of experience in the kitchen, Chef James O’Donnell’s is the new executive chef for STK Orlando, opening this summer at Disney Springs. O’Donnell’s career has taken him around the globe and in 10 different cities, and in his new role at STK Orlando he is able to showcase his worldly culinary experience, as well as his love for creating the ultimate dining scene. About 20 percent of the menu items at STK Orlando will be exclusive to the Disney Springs location, including Florida grouper, chilled rubbed rack of lamb and seared tuna. STK Orlando also will feature signature dishes including bite-sized “Lil BRGs” made with Wagyu beef, lobster mac & cheese, high-quality steaks, seafood and decadent desserts. A few questions with Chef O’Donnell: What’s something new you plan to bring to the local culinary scene? We plan to bring a fine-dining experience, showcasing the high-energy atmosphere along with great food and service we have become known for. What is your first impression of Central Florida’s food scene? The food scene in the Orlando and greater Central Florida area is on a steady rise due to increasing guest demand for sophisticated dining, and STK is excited to be a part of that continued growth. Will you incorporate the farm-to-table trend at STK? If so, do you plan on getting any ingredients from Central Florida-based or Florida-based farms? I am looking forward to growing my relationships with local vendors and purveyors to utilize the resources that are available in the area, especially seasonal fruits, produce and seafood. How will STK Orlando compare to your other locations? STK Orlando is going to be one of our largest locations at about 15,000 square feet, with both indoor and outdoor seating. We will feature new dishes specific to Orlando like our Florida grouper, as well as signature STK dishes fans know and love. View the full article

We have another small detail to share with you as the work on constructing Disney Springs here at Walt Disney World Resort continues. As we’ve shared previously, the story for Disney Springs is that it’s a turn-of-the-century town that sprung up around the lovely Disney Springs – and our Walt Disney Imagineers have gotten very creative in how they’re building a town of the past, right here at Walt Disney World. This week we’re sharing a peek at what will soon be The Market Building, a brick building that, according to the Disney Springs storyline, was constructed in the year 1913. Originally there were two identical market stall structures that faced each other. A few years later a metal roof with large brick gable ends were added, connecting the two structures together into one building. Seat wall planters with palms, a bronze fountain and chandeliers are a few of the features that were added to the interior of the building. Our Imagineers designed the building using an “American Bond” or “Common Bond” pattern, which was common for brick structures built in Florida during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. To enhance the pattern, the header brick bands are a deeper red color and protrude out a half inch. The brick corbeling and layered arches create visual interest and authenticity. And if you look closely at the entry ways, you might notice another fun detail – eight large, iron corner guards fabricated by “Buena Vista Steel.” View the full article

Kristoff and Olaf from Disney’s hit animated film “Frozen” are on their way from Arendelle to help host the inaugural “Frozen” Games at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park this summer. Starting May 27 and running through Aug. 21, our “Frozen” friends will invite guests visiting Blizzard Beach to join Team Kristoff or Team Olaf each day to participate in a variety of winter-themed activities including: Ice Pail Relays where teams line up and pass pails of water to one another, trying to be the first to fill a container at the end. A “Snowball” Toss where pairs compete in a snow-themed water balloon toss. Ski Pole Limbo, a snowy twist on traditional limbo—using a ski pole as the limbo bar! Slide Races that allow teams to race down one of the signature water slides at Blizzard Beach. Olaf and Kristoff will be on hand, appearing on the Observation Deck near Summit Plummet to take part in the opening and closing ceremonies, and giving updates on their teams’ progress throughout the day. The “Frozen” Games will be an all-day event that guests can sign up for when they arrive at the park entrance. All activities are included with regular admission to Blizzard Beach. I have exciting news for guests who love unique collectibles from Disney Parks. You may recall last year around this time we introduced the Disney Park Pack – Pin Trading Edition to our Disney Parks online store. This monthly subscription service delivers collectible Disney Pins directly to your doorstep (note the subscription service for the Pin Trading Edition is currently unavailable but spots do open on occasion). With that said, I have a look at additional Disney Park Packs coming this year. On May 9, we are releasing a one-time-only, mystery-boxed collector's memorabilia that will take you back to the opening day of Disneyland park on July 17, 1955. The set will have an edition size of 1,200, and the purchase of this item is limited to 2 per household. Contents for this mystery-boxed package will remain a surprise, but can include a mix of items ranging from sculptured replicas and medallions to paper collectibles. You won't know which items you've received until you open the box. This is not a subscription item, but a one-time-only offering. All Park Packs in this special edition will contain the same elements. I also have a sneak preview a new Disney Park Pack being released starting July 2016. The image above is the top of packaging for a new collection of specially designed ear hat ornaments. All I can say is that fans of birds that are orange, ghosts, attractions and more will love this Disney Park Pack! To learn more about Disney Park Pack, visit DisneyStore.com/ParkPack. Welcome, Sports Fans, to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill! Learn About: ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill Disney World Restaurants To clarify before we begin, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill is not to be confused with the ESPN Club located on Disney’s BoardWalk. The ESPN Grill is a Counter Service eatery found in Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex — a place you may be familiar with if you’ve participated in a runDisney event, attended a Major League Baseball Spring Training game here, or visited as a participant or spectator in a sporting event hosted at the facility. My visits to the Complex stem from being a participant in runDisney races (the Fitness Expos including runner Packet Pickup are typically housed here). Understanding how jam-packed any runDisney race weekend can be — from transportation to and from both the Expo and the races, the events themselves, as well as packing in all the park touring you want to do — it can be convenient to have access to some Counter Service eats at one of your required stops during the trip. When I went to pick up my race packet for the Inaugural Star Wars 10K, I figured it would be a good time to grab a bite and give Complex visitors an idea of what’s available. After all, if you’re here, you’ve clearly got sports on the brain, so you’d better fuel up :)! Atmosphere As a facility that hosts numerous sporting events throughout the year, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex spans over 230 acres that include playing fields and building facilities. The ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill is located in the Complex’s Jostens Center. Jostens Center The very first thing you see upon entering are the menu boards and ordering counters, located outside of the main dining area. So you’ll place your order here… Ordering Area … then you’ll head to the dining room, with its entrance situated to the left when facing the ordering counters. Entrance into Dining Area As you’d likely expect, the theme inside the ESPN Grill revolves around all things SPORTS! Photo Mural Photo murals of teams and individual game players interspersed with inspirational quotes — all in black and red in keeping with the ESPN logo — dominate the decor. Photo Mural Photo Mural Quote within Photo Mural The dining room also boasts seven gigantic HDTVs where you can catch the big game (five in the main dining area you see here, and two in a side alcove). Main Dining Area HDTVs HDTV A few more (though smaller) TVs are situated at the full service bar tucked behind the main dining area. Full Bar After placing my order, I received a table tracker so I could find a seat and wait for my food to be delivered to my table. Seating at Wide World of Sports Grill Table Tracker Which brings us to the most challenging part of my experience: finding a seat. I’m not sure about what crowds are like for regular sporting events at the Complex, but the runDisney crowds are MASSIVE, so the grill was hoppin’. Busy Day at the Grill That said, with the crowds that runDisney events bring in, this may have been a likely scenario at Counter Service spots all around property, and I did find a table after a couple of minutes. It’s also worth noting that I limited myself to the main dining room to look for a seat. I could also have considered the shaded outdoor patio seating, which did have a few empty tables (along with more TVs, of course!). Patio Seating Oh, and here’s something I missed at first… be sure to grab your forks, knives, condiments, and the like as you enter the dining room. I totally missed it at first and had to make a run after my food arrived. Condiment and Cutlery Bar Okay, I think we’re set! Time to check out the grub at the Grill… Eats A quick glance at the menu will reveal several typical Counter Service items like Chicken Breast Nuggets and Burgers (though here, they’re Booya Burgers ). But a closer look proves that the menu is a bit more diverse than it first appears. Cold sandwiches, soups and salads are listed along with game-day, sports-bar-and-grill inspired eats, which makes the Grill a fitting choice for participants fueling up for their event as well as guests looking for some fun eats to enjoy while watching a game. Soups & Salads Menu Cold and Hot Sandwiches Menu Fan Favorites Menu I also feel compelled to mention the fountain beverages here, because I was thrilled to see Coca-Cola Freestyle machines! Coke Freestyle Machines I have no idea why I get so excited when I see these machines offering their famous 100+ drink choices, since I inevitably fill my cup with regular, plain Coke every time. But still… Coke Freestyle ! Coke Freestyle For my meal (or meals ), I ended up going with the Smoked Turkey Sandwich because I thought it would be a good decision considering the race weekend ahead… along with some Touchdown Tacos listed under “Fan Favorites” for good measure. The Smoked Turkey Sandwich has a bit more going on than the name implies. Smoked Turkey Sandwich The simple sliced turkey breast, lettuce, and tomato are spruced up with a Zinfandel vinaigrette, caramelized red onion, and avocado-garlic mayonnaise, all served on sunflower bread. (I should mention that the Star Wars-themed paper you see lining the trays is probably not the norm; I’m assuming it was just in use for the Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend ). Side choices were Cucumber Salad (which I chose), or House-fried Potato Chips. Smoked Turkey Sandwich The Smoked Turkey Sandwich provided exactly what I was hoping: a fresh, filling sandwich with better-for-you ingredients, kept from a “boring” label thanks to a major flavor boost coming from the caramelized red onion made even sweeter with the Zinfandel vinaigrette. Smoked Turkey Sandwich I think it could have done with some more of the avocado-garlic mayo, because when I tasted it on its own it was really yummy, but since it was put on with a light hand that extra flavor got lost in the rest of the sandwich. Overall, though, I really enjoyed it — and the hearty (but not to “seedy”) sunflower bread was a nice touch. My side of Cucumber Salad was definitely small (not much larger than a condiment cup), but was packed with intense flavor from the pickled red onion. Cucumber Salad That said, if you’re a game participant who isn’t too worried about a less-healthy splurge before your event, I say go with the House-fried Potato Chips — you can rarely go wrong with those no matter where you are in Disney World. The “Fan Favorite” Touchdown Tacos are actually a fairly simple dish: your typical seasoned ground beef, shredded cheese and lettuce, diced tomato and a bit of salsa fill the shells. The tacos come with black beans and rice on the side. Touchdown Tacos The tacos were tasty, but given the ingredients I can’t say there was anything super remarkable about them other than this: I assumed that all the “Fan Favorites” would be on the heavier side, and while most of them certainly seem to be (you could grab some Winner’s Wings, Game Day Nachos with Chili and Cheese, or the 1/2 pound Home Run Hot Dog), one thing I really appreciated about the tacos was that they weren’t even remotely greasy. Touchdown Tacos Even as one of the game-day splurge items, they were more on the fresh side. Unexpectedly, the item that stood out more than the tacos to me was the side of black beans and rice. There wasn’t much in the way of seasoning other than a sprinkling of diced red pepper, but this simple dish was filled with perfectly fluffy rice and just the right amount of liquid from the beans to seal in some flavor. Black Beans and Rice Black Beans and Rice I wish I could find this as a side in more Counter Service locations. I skipped dessert because offerings weren’t unique to the Grill — primarily ice cream novelties and such. But I wanted to show you the options in case part of your pre-or-post game traditions include a Mickey Ice Cream Bar. Kids, Desserts, and Drinks Menu Let’s face it… you’ve earned it, Sport! (Or pre-earned it. Which totally counts ;)! ) With a full tummy and race packet in hand, I was ready to leave the ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill and get ready for the rest of the weekend! Overall The ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill is not destination dining, but it does offer solid options for both competitors and event spectators in a setting custom-made for sports fans. Keep in mind that, if you’re at the Complex, clearly you’re there for some sort of event, so allowing some extra time for a likely crowded spot will be a good idea (and those visiting during sporting events may want to know that concession stands often operate for spectators, too). Though I didn’t experience lines at the food ordering area during my 2:00 pm-ish visit, I definitely noticed them during the noon lunch hour. Oh, and Disney Dining Plan participants will be glad to learn that the plan is accepted at the Grill. No matter what brings you to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, here’s wishing you a successful event or lots of fun enjoying the game! On you mark, get set… GO!! Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and as a mom of four little ones, I cherish anything we can do to make special memories together. There are endless possibilities to do this at Disney Parks, so we asked our Disney Parks Moms Panel for their top picks for an unforgettable Mother’s Day. Here are seven different ideas. For more, or to ask your own question about your Disney Parks vacation, check out www.disneyparksmomspanel.com! My ideal Mother’s Day at Walt Disney World Resort would culminate with dinner at the California Grill restaurant. If you are looking to treat Mom, I would recommend making reservations for an hour and a half before the start of Wishes Nighttime Spectacular. This restaurant offers unparalleled panoramic views of Magic Kingdom Park. During the fireworks display, the lights are dimmed and the music from the show is piped into the restaurant; so she’ll be able to enjoy the spectacle right from her table. Alternatively, she may choose to watch the fireworks from the outside observation deck on the 15th floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Mom will surely be in awe of the breathtaking views from a very unique vantage point. California Grill is a dining experience like no other, one that will surely become an unforgettable memory of a lifetime! – Ritzy For my family, Mother’s Day means to give back to mom, and help her enjoy a day full of activities she enjoys. While there’s no better place than to celebrate it with a vacation to Walt Disney World Resort, a suggestion for the Queen of the family is to enjoy an Afternoon Tea at Garden View Tea Room. Located in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the most important person in the world gets to enjoy some select delicacies in grand style, while relaxing in this beautiful venue. There’s even Mrs. Potts Tea available for the young princes and princesses that may join her majesty. Reservations are highly recommended. After all, we need to roll out the red carpet for her. – Ricardo My favorite activity on Mother’s Day is to enjoy mom and me time with my nine-year old daughter. First, we head over to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and have afternoon tea at the Garden View Tea Room. One year we participated in the Disney’s Perfectly Princess Tea, which was so much fun! My daughter was able to meet Princess Aurora and received her own Princess Aurora doll, tiara, bracelet, necklace and rose to commemorate the occasion. Afterwards we head over to Senses, a Disney spa at Grand Floridian. We get mom and daughter pedicures. After our pedicure, we relax in the relaxation lounge and enjoy the fresh fruit and tea. We both love to read, so we enjoy reading our magazines while relaxing in the recliners. That night we can watch Wishes Nighttime Spectacular from the beach in between the Grand Floridian and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, which is the best location throughout all the parks and resorts to watch this magical experience! -Stacy When it comes time to celebrate Mother’s Day, I like to shop Disney Parks for something special … like a Disney Dooney & Bourke bag that my mom can enjoy all year long. Then I can borrow it, which is an added bonus! – Cathy Disney Floral and Gifts has some of the best pampering besides Senses Spas located at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels. Delivered to her hotel room, the Mother’s Day Collection – Grand Family Celebration is magnificent. She will enjoy sweet treats such as Minnie’s Bake Shop Cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, a frame to hold a magical Disney moment and a magnificent arrangement of red, yellow and fuchsia roses, white stargazer lilies. The Minnie tote that holds all the delicious treats is adorable. This gift is truly Disney and truly unforgettable. -Jason With Disney Springs undergoing its largest expansion in history, you will find new shopping venues, dining experiences and entertainment options perfect for celebrating Mother’s Day. Show mom just how appreciated she is with a shopping spree followed by signature dining at one of Disney Springs’ newest venues! Now that we’ve showered mom with gifts, it’s time to let someone else take care of dinner and treat her to a signature dining experience at The BOATHOUSE. This upscale waterfront venue is unique, romantic and perfect for Mother’s Day dinner. End her special day with a champagne toast aboard a Venezia Champagne Cruise, or set sail on an Amphicar tour, all accessible from The BOATHOUSE. – Priscila Finger sandwiches, lemon curd, scones, pâte à choux swans and Earl Grey tea? No, it isn’t a scene from “Downton Abbey,” but rather a lovely Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Tea Room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa where mom can spend a relaxing afternoon sipping a lovely spot of tea and enjoying some pretty little treats on her special day. And of course, there are offerings for the entire family. It’s practically perfect in every way! – Kara View the full article

Fellow Disney Parks Blog author, Darrell Fry was among the first to share the exciting news about the Invictus Games taking place for the first time in the United States, May 8 – 12, 2016 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. These amazing games which celebrate our wounded servicemen and women from around the world, involve over 500 competitors from up to fifteen nations, as they compete in a ten different sporting events, inspiring us to help others who give their live to serve their country, as well as their families and caregivers. If you’re planning to attend, look for a special selection of merchandise created in honor of the Invictus Games, available to athletes and spectators at select locations at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Items will include adult apparel, youth tee, golf shirt, baseball hat, water bottle, mug, sport sling backpack, magnet and more. Here’s a closer look! A few of my favorites to consider sporting is the ladies tank which reads — I AM Brave-Strong-Tough-Noble-Willing-Able, the Invictus Games – The Captain of My Soul event T-shirt, the spectator T-shirt and last but certainly not least the performance jackets. Finally, I couldn’t pass up the chance to give you a sneak peek at the specially created lanyard and some of the trading pins that will be available, themed to each sport. While I’m not able to show them all to you right now, I hope that you will be joining in the excitement of the Invictus Games and can check them out for yourself. I’m sure that Darrell will be sharing many more details on this momentous event, so keep watching the Disney Parks Blog for all the latest information. View the full article

I don’t know about you, but the pressure is on for me to find my mom the perfect gift for Mother’s Day. As many of you know, at Disney Parks there are a lot of options. That’s why I relied on a few of my friends, who shared some of their fun finds and quick picks to help mom celebrate her special day. Take a look! While the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration themed scarves can only be found at the Disneyland Resort, many of the other items shown can be found at merchandise locations located at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Which item tops your list of gifts to give? View the full article

In this week’s Disney Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor explores what the Lost Boys from “Peter Pan” would do if they had the opportunity to visit a Disney Park. With their penchant for building treetop hideouts in Neverland, they’d no doubt make a stop to scope out all the details of The Swiss Family Treehouse in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park. It’s a lovely morning to wake up at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Looks like some of the savanna’s more than 200 residents are already up and eager to explore. The giraffe is just one of the one of the species you can spot during your stay at this Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Other animal occupants include zebras, gazelles, kudu and flamingos. It’s the story that we’re continuing to watch: Disney’s Animal Kingdom is undergoing major changes! Learn About: Pizzafari Animal Kingdom Disney World Restaurants And you may think that the updates are just relegated to attractions as the park transitions from a daytime-only to an all-day destination. But it only makes sense that more people staying longer will mean that they’ll need to eat! While we look forward to brand new spots, like Tiffins Restaurant and the Nomad Lounge, we’re also seeing lots of menu updates to existing favorites. Today, we throw the spotlight on Pizzafari! Atmosphere You’ll find Pizzafari en route to Africa on Discovery Island. The counter service restaurant offers mostly inside seating, which is always a major plus when trying to beat the heat. Pizzafari Sign Though the outside has been refurbished to reflect the more natural, earthy colors that are now prevalent around Discovery Island, the inside seating areas remain bright, colorful, and whimsical. Pizzafari Dining Room Throughout the restaurant you’ll find differently themed dining rooms in addition to mural-ed hallways. Wall Murals Wall Murals Colors are bold and cheery, and add a really great dimension to this quick service spot. Brightly Painted Decor Be sure to look up as well! I love these cool bats that seem to be sleeping overhead in a room dedicated to “upside down” animals. Hanging Bats! Back in the ordering area, you’ll spy another one of my favorite murals. A colorful peacock holds court here, and butterflies stretch up all the way to the high ceiling. Painted Peacock Above the Ordering Area Butterflies Going Up To The Ceiling While awaiting your food, check out the back wall of the kitchen as well! You’ll see that the pizza ovens are adorned with more underwater scenes depicted in mosaic tile. Decorated Pizza Ovens There’s so much to see everywhere you turn! But now it’s time to get down to the business at hand: eating. Eats So — of course Pizzafari still offers a Pizza-heavy menu, with some additional Italian-American options. You’ll still find plenty of Pies here, including Cheese and Pepperoni as well as Mediterranean and Meat Lover’s options. They also make great use of those pizza ovens by offering a Baked Pasta Bolognese. But a new food item that caught our eye is the Shrimp Flatbread! (At present, this is the only flatbread on the menu; the rest of the items in this genre are still designated as pizzas.) Shrimp Flatbread with Antipasto Salad! It comes with a side of Antipasto Salad, full of Roasted Veggies and Marinated Cheese. Antipasto Salad The flatbread itself is really colorful and fresh-looking. Clearly, it was prepared to order. Shrimp Flatbread The bread has a great texture, both crispy and flakey. Flatbread Closeup The Roasted Shrimp are scattered on top with the other Salad-type ingredients. The shrimp themselves were large and well-seasoned. Shrimp The Vegetables included Tomatoes, Onions, Red Peppers, and Arugula. Shrimp Flatbread Toppings Beneath the toppings, the flatbread itself offered a layer of melted Mozzarella topped with Alfredo Sauce and Pesto. All three combined to be a perfect flavor match for the seasoned shrimp. Melted Cheese, Alfredo Sauce, and Pesto In addition to looking pretty, it was quite good. Given that Pizzafari’s pizza hasn’t always been my favorite, I was delighted to see this pizza-salad hybrid flatbread option. I hope they add more! Another beautiful addition to the menu is the Heart of Romaine Salad. While a Caesar Salad is nothing new on the Pizzafari menu, this new iteration featuring an entire Heart of Romaine sliced down the middle is a dressed up version. You can choose from Chicken or Shrimp to top your salad. Since the shrimp is new to the menu, that was my choice. Hearts of Romaine Salad with Shrimp Again, I was struck by the presentation of the salad. This is another really attractive plate, especially for a counter service joint. Served on a Large Heart of Romaine The salad is topped with Roasted Shrimp and a tangy, creamy Caesar Dressing. Roasted Shrimp You’ll also find generous helpings of shredded Parmesan Cheese and Croutons. Shredded Parmesan and Croutons But entrees weren’t the only new items we spotted. There were also a couple of new sides to check out. First up, Pizzafari now offers Tomato Basil Soup. Tomato Basil Soup This soup is a total no-brainer! We all know that Disney makes some incredible Tomato Basil Soup, so I’m happy whenever it pops up on a menu. And with such a big indoor eating area, Pizzafari is totally a soup-friendly spot! Closeup of the Tomato Basil Soup The soup comes with packages of crackers, but you’re gonna wanna trade them for the next item I’m about to show you. Check out the upgraded Garlic Knots! Still available as a snack credit, you get large, delicious garlic knots (there were 6 in my order), served with a side of Marinara Sauce for dipping. Garlic Knots and Marinara Sauce Up close, you can see that the bread is generously coated with Olive Oil and a combo of Herbs, Garlic, and shredded Cheese. Garlic Knot Closeup Inside, the bread texture is tender and fluffy. Garlic Knot Cross-Section They are perfectly paired with the Tomato Basil Soup! But you also have another new option: Garlic Butter Dipping Sauce. Yes. You read that right. Regardless of what you order, it’s going to run you an extra buck. But it is WELL worth it, especially when you’re dunking Garlic Knots. Garlic Dipping Sauce Having the two sauces makes this a great item to share as a simple pre-meal appetizer for your whole table! Overall Pizzafari hasn’t always been my go-to option in Animal Kingdom. In fact, it was usually my last choice, and I only ate there because I knew I had to review it for the blog. So to be able to share that there are a few updates to the menu that make it not the debacle that it used to be makes me pretty excited. The Heart of Romaine Salad, topped with either Chicken or Shrimp, is my favorite salad option when I’m going with a park counter service spot. And the generous portion sizes here also mean that you aren’t going to leave hungry. I’ve got to hand it to Pizzafari: everything I ate both looked beautiful and tasted fresh and fantastic. While I hope to see more flatbread options in the future, I still think it’s safe to say that, with this menu refresh, they’ve definitely upped their game a bit. Will be trying one of the new items available at Pizzafari? Let us know in the comments below! Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books!
