  2. For many guests, “it’s a small world” Holiday is a must-do during Holidays at the Disneyland Resort. This year, we are celebrating the 20th season of this beloved seasonal attraction, which combines the classic “it’s a small world” with festive decorations, holiday-inspired costumes and a mix of favorite holiday songs. Here are some things you might not know about this holiday favorite! In a tribute to its 20th season, there are at least half a dozen “Hidden 20s” in “it’s a small world” Holiday this year. Decorators use 50,000 lights on the façade of “it’s a small world” Holiday, and an additional 350,000 mini-lights in the trees, hedges and animal topiaries surrounding the attraction. Thousands of additional lights decorate the nearby shops and food kiosks, bringing the total to more than 400,000 lights adding sparkle and wintry ambiance to the plaza area around “it’s a small world.” After dark, the smiling clock at the front of “it’s a small world” Holiday, decked out in a Santa hat, reveals a sparkling projection show. On every quarter hour, the brightly light façade of the attraction is transformed into an enormous clockwork mechanism with advanced 3D-projection technology presented by Siemens. The gears and springs pull back to reveal a world of holiday wonders hidden behind the whimsical clock. Among the holiday-inspired special effects inside the attraction are scents of fresh pine and peppermint in the European scenes. In the South Seas scene, hundreds of iridescent bubbles float through the air. Nearly 150 giant candles decorate the Christmas tree in the European scene. The attraction’s finale features a 14-foot snowman standing atop a 10-foot-wide snowflake. The snowman joined the attraction in 2011, bringing an extra sprinkle of holiday pixie dust with him. It takes a talented and dedicated team of nearly three dozen cast members 35 days to install the glittering façade and nearly 18 days to decorate the holiday attraction’s dazzling interior. Don’t miss “it’s a small world” Holiday, now in its 20th season at Disneyland park! View the full article

  6. ‘Tis the season for holiday parties! I love celebrating this time of year with friends or loved ones. A holiday party, such as Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park, is a great excuse to get dressed up in festive attire. Here are a few suggestions from Disney Parks Merchandise that will add some holiday magic to your wardrobe. Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts offer a variety of holiday apparel for adults and kids. Guests will find similar items at each destination, just with a different resort logos depending on where you are celebrating the holidays. Some of my favorite items in recent years are the fun holiday sweater t-shirts. Living in Florida, it’s the easiest way to stay “warm” during the winter. This year, guests will find tees with Pluto, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. For women, look for a variety of fashion pullovers with holiday artwork. I suggest pairing these long-sleeve shirts with colorful sequin headbands, which are a simple accessory item that can add sparkle to any outfit. Guests will also find sleepwear such as an extra-long t-shirt, lounge pants for men, or a flannel pajama set for women. Finally, I have exciting news for guests wanting to commemorate the new nighttime spectacular “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Through Dec. 31, this show comes to life on, above and around the Chinese Theater with state-of-the-art projections, special effects, fireworks and a rousing seasonal musical score. From Nov. 28 through Dec. 11, 2016, we will be offering a limited release commemorative t-shirt for adults and kids on the Disney Parks online store. This shirt will only be found online, and will not be carried in merchandise locations at Walt Disney World Resort. Please allow 3-5 weeks for delivery. To place an order starting Nov. 28, please visit DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents. Guests may find many of the other items shown in this article at select merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. You can also order products online via the Disney Parks online store or using the free Shop Disney Parks mobile app. View the full article

  12. I don’t know about you, but I can NOT get enough Dole Whip! You know about the main places to get the Disney Cult Classic Snack in the Parks. Find it at Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom and Tiki Juice Bar in Disneyland. The other classic spot to enjoy this refreshing treat is Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (and now at the Coffee House in Disneyland Hotel — but more on that later!). Dole Whip! PLUS, in the past couple of years, Dole Whip — sometimes called Pineapple Soft Serve — has popped up at Epcot during the Flower and Garden Festival as well as the Food and Wine Festival. And it seems to be a mainstay on the menu at Disney’s Animal Kingdom these days, too. Find it at Tamu Tamu Refreshments. But this just in — now you can also find this pineapple-y goodness at Marketplace Snacks in Disney Springs! Marketplace Snacks at Disney Springs So that means you can enjoy this refreshing treat while you shop to your heart’s content. Sounds good to me! 23. Today we’re featuring something new in our series of Disney-inspired bento box tutorials – our first design inspired by the new Disney film “Moana.” In it, Disney Parks Blog reader and fan Mike Kravanis shows you how to create a Kakamora character, one of the cute (but menacing) pirates Moana encounters on her voyage with Maui. 24. “Moana” screenwriter Jared Bush came to Walt Disney World Resort just a few days before the release of Walt Disney Animation Studios newest movie, but he didn’t tell his three kids. “They don’t know where Daddy is right now, because if I told them…there would be a riot at my house.” Jared’s main reason to visit Florida was attending several advance screenings of Moana, but he did manage to fit in some time exploring the theme parks – including Frozen Ever After at Epcot, Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and an exclusive video interview with Disney Parks Blog that you can see here: In “Moana,” an adventurous teenager is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Inexplicably drawn to the ocean, Moana (voice of Auliʻi Cravalho) convinces the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson) to join her mission, and he reluctantly helps her become a wayfinder like her ancestors who sailed before her. One story from our interview that didn’t make the video – Jared was in Hawaii for a recording session with Auli’i, and the Polynesian Voyaging Society took him out on the ocean. Aboard a traditional canoe, they shared some secrets that usually take decades to learn, including how a sleeping wayfinder can tell when a canoe has gone off course. How cool is that?! “Moana” is in theaters now. View the full article
