We are back in Disneyland today with a review of a “Secret Menu” item from Stage Door Cafe! You’ll find this hidden gem in Disneyland’s Frontierland, right around the corner from the Golden Horseshoe Saloon. Stage Door Cafe This hard-to-find eatery is teensy, with barely enough space for more than ten people in the counter service ordering area. Stage Door Cafe Ordering Area But that shouldn’t stop you from scoping it out! Pretty much everything on the menu is something you want to eat. Trust me. Stage Door Cafe Menu You might recall some of our favorites from the Stage Door Cafe, like this perfect Funnel Cake. Stage Door Funnel Cake with Strawberry Topping And this one is particularly delicious (and gorgeous!). Of course, when we’re not eating a Stage Door Funnel Cake, you might find us clinging to a hand-dipped Corn Dog (Stage Door is one of three places you can get these famous Corn Dogs in the Disneyland Resort). Hand Dipped Corn Dog But on this visit, our Disneyland correspondent, Heather Sievers, was after an item not listed on the current menu. Stage Door Cafe Interior Menu Heather ordered a Secret Menu item: Mozzarella Sticks. Stage Door Cafe Mozzarella Sticks This crunchy, cheesy, toasty snack comes with six sticks, a side of fries, and a choice between two dipping sauces — marinara and ranch. Basically, these are your standard chain restaurant sticks — nothing great, but not bad, either. Heather tried both of the sauces and deduced that the marinara (pictured) was a little bland and she ultimately preferred the ranch dipping sauce. Stage Door Mozzarella Sticks Interior Heather reports that this snack, priced at $8.79, could be the perfect snack to share on a cold night at Disneyland, even though there’s no real wow factor. (It’s a good one to keep in mind for picky eaters, though!) Other Secret Menu Options While the Mozzarella Sticks are always a secret menu option at Stage Door Cafe (e.g. you can always ask for them, no matter the time of year), MousePlanet notes a few more temporary secret items available just during Disneyland Resort’s limited run of the Main Street Electrical Parade! At Refreshment Corner, you can find Firefly Chili with corn chips and shredded cheese for 3.49 and Chili Mac in a bread bowl for $10.99. At Galactic Grill, you can pick up a Secret Galactic Burger on a brioche bun, topped with American cheese and burger sauce, served with a side of fries. Finally, at Plaza Inn, ask for the Fried Chicken and Mickey Mouse Mini Waffles! So many secret items to try! Have you found a “Secret” menu item that you love? One of my favorite stops in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland park is Gadget’s Go Coaster. Gadget, who you may know from Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, built this acorn-train coaster in her yard using found parts like bottle caps, cans, toy blocks and rubber bands. As your acorn speeds around Toon Lake, you can enjoy the views of Mickey’s Toontown along the way … but watch out for the frog who just may spit a stream of water over your head! There’s a new drink in the World, and you have got to check it out! Learn About: The Wave…of American Flavors Disney World Restaurants But to find it, there’s only one place you can go, and that’s Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Just head to the Lounge at The Wave… of American Flavors (or Top of the World in Bay Lake Tower), and that’s where you can order up the The Seven Seas Lagoon. Before we dive in, we’ve got to note how fun it is to see another Resort-specific cocktail on a Disney lounge menu. With the rare exception of specialty spots like AbracadaBar and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, you can go from one Resort Bar to the next and not see much difference in the offerings. But here and there, you’ll find beverages themed to their Resort. The New Orleans-inspired cocktails at Port Orleans’ River Roost, the classic cocktails at the BoardWalk’s Belle Vue Lounge, and the specialty drinks at Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Victoria Falls come to mind. And we always think it’s a thing to celebrate when they come along. There’s much more to say, though, about The Seven Seas Lagoon. Clearly, its name is inspired by the Contemporary’s location as one of the Resorts surrounding the Seven Seas Lagoon. The Seven Seas Lagoon Or maaaaybe it gets its name from the fact that this drink is the size of an ACTUAL LAGOON. Seven Seas Lagoon Okay, so… not quite . But still, coming in at 24 ounces, this super fun sipper is made for sharing with your pals! It even comes complete with two Mickey straws to indicate that this is not a drink just for one. Also garnishing the fish-bowl-sized beverage are gummy rings, a la life preservers! Mickey Straw and Gummy Rings And there are a few more surprises yet inside… gummy fish candies and boba pearls, finished off with a glow cube. Here’s a look at the beverage, “deconstructed”-style. Deconstructed Seven Seas Lagoon Gummy Rings and Fish Just a note: those Mickey straws are a nice little souvenir and look way cute, but they are too thin to pick up the bursting boba pearls, so you don’t get quite that same experience as with drinks served specifically for boba. They’re a fun and tasty touch, though! Boba Pearls Still, if you’re looking to invest the $22.00 (not bad, for a shareable beverage), you’ll want to know how the thing tastes. Ingredients include Skyy Vodka, Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, lime and pineapple juices, soda water, and agave. The Seven Seas Lagoon So, obviously the flavors are tropical, but here’s where the difference lies with many other Disney beach-inspired beverages: The Seven Seas Lagoon is sweetened with agave as opposed to the typical Blue Curacao/sweet-and-sour mix you’ll often encounter in the “blue drinks.” So even though it’s PLENTY sweet, it’s not a syrupy sweetness with that tart aftertaste. (In fact, once you pull the glow cube from the drink, you’ll find it’s more of a green hue than the blue that comes from the cube). Seven Seas Lagoon The soda water, too, helps to tame the sweetness, so the Lagoon is a fruity drink that still has the potential to suit more palates than your typical candy-sweet beverage. Which is good, because it’s not only shareable due to its size — it’s also surprisingly strong, even though it primarily tastes smooth going down the ol’ hatch. Mickey Straws and Gummy Rings So, all in all, this one comes highly recommended! It’s not only tasty — this thing is custom-made for vacation memory-making with friends, complete with selfies… IF you can fit the whole drink in the picture, that is ;). Ahoy!! Would you like to try The Seven Seas Lagoon? Please let us know with a comment! Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! By now, you probably know that Disney Springs is among the best places for shopping – and not just for Disney souvenirs – in Central Florida! Check out all the details on new breakfast choices at the Magic Kingdom, and stay tuned for more reviews on these options coming soon! Now, here’s a little something we’ve noticed at a few Counter Service spots in the Magic Kingdom. Several paper plates and bowls were sporting a new design, which is fairly minimalist, save for the not-really-from-Walt-Disney quote lining the edges. (Disney Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald actually wrote this quote for the Horizons ride in Epcot.) Counter Service Paper Plate These could simply be a transitional design from the holiday plates to a new year-round plate, but we’re not yet sure. Oh, and remember how we found out before the end of 2016 that, moving forward, beer and wine will be served at four more restaurants (in addition to Be Our Guest Restaurant)? Kronenberg Beer at Be Our Guest Our friend Daniel Wanderman shared this picture with us of the selection at the Jungle Skipper Canteen. @danielwanderman Instagram Liberty Tree Tavern features, among other beer and wine choices, Sam Adams Boston Lager and Iron Horse Fairy Tale Celebration Cuvee Brut, while Tony’s Town Square is serving Luce dell Vite “Lucent” Super Tuscan and Birra Moretti Lager. This past weekend, guests at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort and Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort celebrated National Polka Dot Day the Minnie Mouse way on January 22, 2017! I had the chance to join the festivities at Disney Springs and was blown away by all the amazing polka-dotted fashion and Minnie Mouse-inspired items that our guests rocked! (My favorite? A grandfather decked out in an over-the-top Minnie Mouse t-shirt, right in the middle of the #RockTheDots action!) The fashionista herself – yes, that would be the one-and-only Minnie Mouse – even made a few surprise appearances at the dance party at Disney Springs. I was lucky enough to snag a photo with her before she was whisked away for a costume change – over the course of the event, Minnie showcased four different polka-dotted looks, each one as cute as the one before … what I wouldn’t give for her wardrobe! Check out a few fun photos from the Disney Springs event: Unfortunately, the rain put a damper on some of the elements originally planned for our friends on the West Coast, but I hear that those who showed up at the Downtown Disney District didn’t disappoint with their Minnie-inspired styles! Did you #RockTheDots? If so, I’d love to know what you enjoyed most, so feel free to share in the comments below. View the full article

Work hard, play hard. It might sound cliché, but it’s my personal motto. And traveling to Costa Rica with Adventures by Disney allowed me to play really hard while white water rafting, ziplining over the treetops, shaking what my mother gave me with local musicians and more. But the trip also allowed me to enjoy something equally satisfying – relaxation! With Adventures by Disney you can savor the serenity of a private catamaran excursion on crystal clear water, soak in a naturally heated hot springs, learn to mix the perfect mojito (a skill I now put to use whenever I have the chance), bask on beaches and so much more. Costa Ricans call this leisurely lifestyle “pura vida” or “pure life,” and it’s a mentality that’s infectious to all who visit this magically beautiful place. See for yourself in this video, and embrace the pura vida of Costa Rica! View the full article

Yesterday, two new totem poles were installed at the Canada Pavilion at Epcot, bringing a new dose of history, culture and storytelling to the pavilion. Carved by Tsimshian artisan David Boxley, who previously created a totem pole for the pavilion’s Trading Post in the 1990s, the three new additions each have a unique story to tell. The Eagle Totem Pole tells one of Boxley’s favorite cultural tales, in which a boy finds an eagle caught in a net on a beach and frees it. Years later, when hunger strikes the boy’s tribe, he walks on the same beach, only to find the eagle there waiting for him with food – paying him back for his kindness years ago. The bottom of this totem pole also tells the story of how a family of beaver taught a human family the importance of treating all creatures – human and animal – with respect. The Whale Totem Pole depicts the tale of the first potlatch, a ceremonial feast celebrated by the Nagunaks and creatures of the undersea world. The overnight installation was followed up with a dedication ceremony for the new poles that included a performance by the Git Hoan Dancers (People of the Salmon). Based in Washington state, Git-Hoan members can trace their ancestral roots to some of the main tribes of Southeast Alaska, the Tsimshian, the Haida and Tlingit. View the full article

A trip to Disneyland Resort holds a special kind of magic for all of us, whether you are seeking some thrills on Matterhorn Bobsleds or looking to experience history at Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. But, as a busy preschooler, there is a special kind of magic to explore. As moms to some adorable preschoolers, Disney Parks Moms Panelists Linda M. and Anabel M. have some insights on their kiddos’ favorite Disneyland Resort attractions. Spending some time in Mickey’s Toontown is a must, and classic attractions like Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Mad Tea Party teacups and King Arthur Carrousel are always a big hit! Linda M.’s preschool daughter could spend countless hours on “it’s a small world.” She wants to ride again and again, searching for her favorite Disney characters in their respective countries. When her adventurous side kicks in, look out Evil Emperor Zurg – she is coming after you on Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster. “She even manages to beat my score from time to time, although I am admittedly terrible at aiming the laser cannon,” says Linda. “Over in Disney California Adventure park, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is also a favorite! It usually has a short wait, and my daughter thinks it’s so much fun when our clam shell descends under the bubbles into Ariel’s grotto.” “a bug’s land” at Disney California Adventure park is full of bug-sized fun like Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train, Flik’s Flyers and Princess Dot Puddle Park. Your preschoolers can also get hands-on with Toy Story Midway Mania! or chat with their favorite turtle at “Turtle Talk with Crush.” What else is there to do with your little one, you might ask? A great deal more! Anabel has some entertaining ideas for other attractions your preschooler might enjoy. She finds Pirates of the Caribbean to be a perfect mix of thrills and swashbuckling fun if your preschooler has an adventurous side. Little ones can also enjoy meeting their favorite characters throughout the parks or burn off some energy at one of the playgrounds. And if they need a nap during all the fun, Anabel M. recommends the area just outside the Baby Care Center at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., or next to the Haunted Mansion near the Disneyland Railroad station for a good quiet spot. Both locations offer benches, shady trees and quick access to snacks. For more preschooler tips or to ask questions about planning your upcoming Disney vacation, be sure to visit DisneyParksMomsPanel.com for a personalized response from our knowledgeable panel. We’re starting out this final week of January by sharing a dose of Florida sunshine with all of you. This remarkable photo, snapped by photographer Courtney DiStasio, showcases the beauty of the Tree of Life, the park icon at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As Disney Parks Blog author Dr. Mark Penning shared earlier this month, the tree is once again home to Kangaroos, lesser flamingos, white storks and now lappet-faced vultures on newly reopened Discovery Island Trails. After the sun goes down, it’s amazing to watch the Tree of Life celebrate the animal kingdom whole new way with the new Tree of Life Awakenings. In them, the tree “awakens” with light and color to showcase different stories from the animal kingdom, including tales about a doe, two hummingbirds, a fox and more. Which time do you prefer to visit the Tree of Life? During the day or night? View the full article

Our Disney Doodle series allows our team of artists to imagine what a Disney character would do first if they had the chance to visit a Disney theme park. This week’s Doodle focuses on Esmeralda, the heroine gypsy from the 1996 film “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” In the film, Esmeralda’s spirited dancing helped her make a living – and occasionally served as a means of escape from the villain, Frollo. Here, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what Esmeralda would do if she had the chance to visit Epcot. “Every time I spend time in the France Pavilion at Epcot, I imagine Esmeralda dancing up and down the passageways. I imagine she would have a fun time performing for the guests with Djali!” View the full article

Many Disney fans have a special place in their hearts for their favorite parades and fireworks shows. And for a whole bunch of us, the Main Street Electrical Parade pulls at our heartstrings big time. And now that it’s back at Disneyland — welcomed by a TON of amazing MSEP themed treats? We HAD to get there!! Main Street Electrical Parade Banner The glittering spectacle features innumerable lights, fan-favorite characters, and catchy, fun music. Beloved since its first appearance at Disneyland Resort way back in 1972 and its subsequent appearance in Disney World in 1977, the Main Street Electrical Parade is pretty universally adored. Main Street Electrical Parade Banner and Disneyland Train Station Lately, the two coasts have been bouncing the parade back and forth. Since the parade’s most recent departure from Florida in October 2016, it has returned to its roots at the Disneyland Resort, replacing Paint the Night in January of 2017. Main Street Electrical Parade Train Float Back on the west coast are the same colorful, recognizable floats, with their energetic character counterparts along with the classic Main Street Electrical Parade song. Main Street Electrical Parade Eliot Float Disneylanders the world over rejoiced at their beloved parade’s return, but Disney wasn’t done yet. Because if you’re bringing back to the west coast one of the most iconic Disneyland experiences, then you must introduce a bevvy of specialty treats!!! Main Street Electrical Parade Menu Heather Sievers, our Disneyland correspondent, sent us a plethora of pictures and reviews after the parade’s debut back in Disneyland this weekend!! YAY! And we are happy to report that these treats are perfectly colorful, cheerful, fun, and delicious! Main Street Electrical Parade Treats Super cute, right?!? Main Street Electrical Parade Treats Treats can be found at various locations around the park, so if you’re on the lookout for them, be sure to note where you can grab some for yourself! Candy Palace We will start our Main Street Electrical Parade treat journey at Candy Palace. Cake pops and crispy treats, which have become staples at all the Disney Parks, are available here. Heather found the Ladybug Crispy Treat and the Snail Cake Pop (available in chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet flavors). Something for everyone! As if we needed another reason to buy these adorable things. Main Street Electrical Parade Treats at Candy Palace Heather snatched up a Snail Cake Pop in vanilla. Main Street Electrical Parade Snail Cake Pop The texture and the taste are exactly as expected: rich, moist, and sweet. (And we love the Snail’s enthusiastic expression!) Main Street Electrical Parade Snail Cake Pop Also available at Candy Palace are marshmallow wands. The Cheshire Cat-themed one (basically a Tigger Tail in pink and purple) is just right. I can imagine the rest of the cat disappearing and leaving only his tail! Main Street Electrical Parade Marshmallow Wand – Cheshire Cat Main Street Electrical Parade Cheshire Cat Marshmallow Wand And Heather really hit the marshmallow wand jackpot with the Caterpillar Marshmallow Wand. Look at this sweetie! Main Street Electrical Parade Caterpillar Marshmallow Wand We wish there were more synonyms for the word cute, because this guy is beyond! Note that, as with other marshmallow wands (including the Cheshire Cat above), the marshmallows are swathed in caramel before being dipped in colored chocolate. The Jelly Belly flavor is lemon-lime, and his little antennae are black licorice (heads up if you’re not a fan!). Main Street Electrical Parade Caterpillar Marshmallow Wand And FYI: while Heather grabbed these treats at Candy Palace, the crispy treats, cake pops, and marshmallow wands are all available at Trolley Treats in California Adventure as well. Jolly Holiday So those are super cute, but they’re still variations on the standard treats found at Candy Palace. But over at Jolly Holiday Bakery, you can find some truly unique MSEP treats! One of Heather’s favorite treats of the day was the amazing Cheshire Cat Shortbread Cookie. Main Street Electrical Parade Cheshire Cat Cookie We think it’s pretty easy to see why. The shortbread is fresh — not too crunchy or hard; and the jam in the center is fruity and yummy. And we are loving the details on this one. Pink and purple stripes and the white chocolate medallion in the center are everything. And it’s a big cookie. You might even want to share, although we kind of doubt it. Main Street Electrical Parade Cheshire Cat Cookie Also at Jolly Holiday, Heather found a…Trio of Turtle Cream Puffs!!! What?!? These guys are so great. Main Street Electrical Parade Turtle Cream Puffs Heather reports that the Turtles feature little macaron hats — so clever! And while the green glitter gel frosting is totally theme-appropriate, Heather said the frosting had a slightly off-putting texture. Main Street Electrical Parade Turtle Cream Puff The cream puffs, Heather happily reported, were terrific. According to the menu, the Trio of Turtle Cream Puffs comes filled with milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and vanilla, but Heather’s pretty sure she just received three milk chocolate ones. And while she isn’t complaining, it’s important to note that there might be a little variation in what you get here. Heather’s next Main Street Electrical Parade-themed sweet treat was the Ladybug Macaron. Main Street Electrical Parade Ladybug Macaron It’s a good thing there are three of these cuties because they’re almost too adorable to eat. This, Heather says, is a standard Disney Macaron — only about a bajillion times cuter. Main Street Electrical Parade Ladybug Macaron Similar to the Trio of Turtle Cream Puffs, the Ladybug Macaron is supposed to come in three flavors (strawberry, orange, and lemon). Again, Heather received all three of hers in just one flavor: strawberry. The tart flavor and perfect macaron cookies were great match. But we might suggest inspecting yours a little if you want to be sure you get all three of the fillings. (Also, we know, we know: the menu says “Macaroons.” They’re Macarons. They ALWAYS do that at Jolly Holiday. Just be prepared.) Another Jolly Holiday treat Heather was excited to try is the PB&J Eclair. I can’t even with this one. Main Street Electrical Parade PB&J Eclair First, how perfect is the chocolate piece on top?! It is a beautiful illustration of the iconic Main Street Electrical Parade floats that visitors know and love. And it’s chocolate! We feel like this might be at home in the Epcot Festival of the Arts over on the east coast, but it’s obviously ideal for Disneyland’s Parade revival. Once we get past that chocolate piece, the PB&J Eclair is actually super yummy! The peanut butter filling has the consistency of pudding (eclair-appropriate, we say), and the jam is strawberry. Heather reports that this is her favorite Jolly Holiday eclair variation thus far! Main Street Electrical Parade PB&J Eclair Heather’s final Jolly Holiday treat was the Pineapple Coconut Parfait. Main Street Electrical Parade Pineapple Coconut Parfait And she says this one was her favorite treat of the day. The parfait gets dynamite fruit flavor from layers of pineapple, strawberry, and coconut. Main Street Electrical Parade Pineapple Coconut Parfait When you remove the pretty chocolate medallion, you’ve got some great crunch from the colorful candies on the top. Heather reports that the Pineapple Coconut Parfait had amazing flavors and textures, and it was a lighter offering than most of the other options. Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor Finally, Heather stopped by the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor for the Secret Fantasia Ice Cream. Main Street Electrical Parade Secret Fantasia Ice Cream Whoopie Pie Sandwich This one was a little disappointing. The ice cream, which is supposed to be a combination of banana, cherry, and pistachio, was heavy on the banana. As in…it was just banana ice cream. By the time she received her treat, Heather reports that the ice cream was melted, and the hot fudge had all convened to one side. Bummer. FYI — the Whoopie Pie halves are chocolate. And in case you’re wondering what the Secret Floats are, Heather tells us that they are just floats made with the “Secret” Fantasia Ice Cream. So while we might not necessarily recommend the Secret Fantasia Ice Cream at Gibson Girl, you will definitely want to stop by to get the best straw topper in the history of straw toppers. It’s like a light-up ice cube — but awesomer! This super cute Light-Up Turtle Straw Topper is $4.99 and worth every penny. It slides onto your straw and cycles through various colors. Main Street Electrical Parade Light Up Turtle Straw Topper Did we mention it’s cute? So cute! So, congrats to Disneyland for getting this fan favorite parade back in town…and for celebrating its arrival so perfectly with these fantastic treats!!!! PROPS!!!!!! Will you search for any of these sweet treats during your limited-time viewing of the Main Street Electrical Parade at Disneyland Resort? Let us know in the comments!
