  1. When it comes to our company’s commitment to innovation, the debut of MagicBand technology at the Walt Disney World Resort a few years ago was a game-changer. In the years since its debut, more than 29 million MagicBands have been produced to unlock the magic of a Disney vacation – from effortless theme-park entry, FastPass+ redemption and Disney PhotoPass association, to skipping the front desk and going directly to your resort room. In fact, MagicBands have been so popular, Disney is now the fourth largest distributor of wearables in the world! And as technology continues to evolve, so does the MagicBand. As you know, we recently launched graphic retail MagicBand 2 in styles ranging from Magic Kingdom 45th Anniversary and Rogue One, to the latest “Lady and the Tramp” (just in time for Valentine’s Day). We’re excited to share today that solid-color MagicBand 2 are now available in the current eight colors – pink, blue, red, green, orange, gray, yellow, and purple – wherever MagicBands are sold throughout Walt Disney World Resort. And if you are a new Passholder or you recently renewed your Pass, you should already be enjoying your new solid-color MagicBand 2 as they are sent to as part of your benefits. Guests who book a Disney resort stay have the opportunity to receive their newly designed, solid-color MagicBand 2 at home. With the MagicBand 2 solid-color bands, you have more options to customize your MagicBand. You can mix and match different-colored bands to create your favorite multi-colored band because with MagicBand 2, the center icon is removable and linked to your My Disney Experience account. In addition to all of the fun you’ll have customizing your solid-color MagicBand, new MagicKeepers accessories are now available that will give you even more options on how to wear the magic. You can put the center icon into a silver carabiner to wear on a purse, diaper bag or belt loop; or into a Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse lanyard clip to wear around your neck. Even better, included with each MagicKeeper is a handy mini-screwdriver that helps you change out the icon. And just like with your MagicBand, the MagicKeeper accessories with your icon will work at locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort such as park entry, FastPass+ entrances, Disney PhotoPass association, resort room entry, payment locations and more. There will be additional graphic MagicBand 2s introduced as we expand the launch of this innovative wearable, whether tied into new attractions or new Disney movies. Keep checking back for more updates. View the full article
  2. Opening today at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is the new Geyser Point Bar & Grill, where guests can grab a bite as they enjoy the resort’s rustic beauty. Located along the water’s edge, Geyser Point is designed with cedar beams and natural stone to fit into the design that’s reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest (especially cool after dark with campfires and the iconic Electrical Water Pageant on Bay Lake). At the bar, artisanal sips add an authentic touch to beverage menus, including drinks which feature Pacific Northwest brewers and distilleries, and wines focusing on heritage varietals grown in Oregon and Washington. Small plates pair beautifully with beverages, including crispy fried oysters with miso tartar sauce; edamame with chili salt; cheesy barbecue brisket with house-made chips; “Shrimp on a Wire” with miso-lime vinaigrette, togarashi (Japanese spice mixture), shishito peppers and chili-aioli; salmon rillettes with sourdough crisps, and handcrafted charcuterie. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a quick-service walk-up window next to the bar makes it easy to order and dine alfresco. Breakfast includes everything from scrambled eggs with sausage and bacon to crab cakes Benedict and maple-cinnamon pancakes. For a lighter bite, seasonal fruit is served with lavender honey-yogurt, and steel-cut oatmeal is topped with dried fruit and nuts. For kids, scrambled eggs, buttermilk pancakes and granola with apples, strawberries and honey-yogurt dip is on the menu. The quick-service lunch and dinner menu, available at the walk-up window includes: Bison burger with Tillamook Cheddar, sweet onion straws and marionberry barbecue sauce Classic bacon burger with Tillamook Cheddar House-smoked turkey sandwich with cranberry mayonnaise Lump crab cake sandwich with house-made Canadian bacon and spicy cabbage-carrot slaw Grilled salmon BLT with lemon-caper mayonnaise Salad with grilled Portobello, zucchini, roasted red peppers, tomato and multi-grain salad with goat cheese dressing Grilled chicken or salmon with arugula and romaine, apples, seasonal berries, hazelnuts and red wine vinaigrette Seasonal fruit plate with lavender honey yogurt For dessert there’s seasonal pie and a chocolate brownie mousse with caramel popcorn and toasted meringue Kids’ all-day menu: Grilled chicken strips with dipping sauces, apple or veggie sticks Finger Food Sampler with sliced smoked turkey, Tillamook Cheddar, spiced apple jam, grape tomatoes and sourdough crisps. 3. I love chocolate. Who doesn’t?! Actually, I’ve met a few people that aren’t big fans of my favorite sweet treat (the horror!). Even they will love this Villaintine chocolate confection wallpaper that we’ve designed this year! Our brilliant Brittany Ungvarsky has a thing for villains (and chocolate too). She put that passion into action and illustrated a box of deliciously evil treats. See if you can figure out who’s who! Happy Villaintine’s Day to you! 4. We’re closer than ever to the debut of “Rivers of Light,” the newest nighttime offering that’s set to debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on February 17. Today we have a fascinating peek at the intricate details of the show’s Discovery River Amphitheater to share with you. The amphitheater, which was designed for “Rivers of Light,” offers much more than seating for the show – it was actually designed as a key part of the show’s storytelling. According to our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering, the amphitheater is split by the Discovery River, which forms two “villages” on the two separate embankments – The Serka Zong Marketplace and the Discovery River shoreline. As guests at the show, you’ll be seated in one of these areas and “welcomed” into the village. If you stop and examine the smaller details of the Discovery River Amphitheater, you’ll find fascinating detail inspired by Nepalese culture and architecture influenced by some of the most sacred places in the Eastern World. For example, the two gated portals marking the entrances to the amphitheater boast painted lotus flowers, an important symbol throughout Asia that represents enlightenment (The lotus is also an important symbol you’ll see during the “Rivers of Light” show). The doorways themselves are marked with skydoor icons that protect the inhabitants from evil spirits. Other elements found in Discovery River Amphitheater were inspired by some of the most revered places in Nepalese culture. Tiered stacked stones were influenced by those at Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal. You’ll also find colored prayer flags, garlands, lanterns and bells which are common in high altitude Nepalese Villages along the Kali Gandaki River. Metal poles that are covered in tangled wire, lights and signs are symbols of modern life in Nepal. Keep your eye out for a pole that includes a large parasol, which represents wisdom, compassion, and protection. 7. This week was a huge as far as announcements, with new updates shared on Pandora – The World of Avatar, Star Wars-themed lands, plus new entertainment coming soon to Walt Disney World Resort. George Savvas shared the thrilling news that our Star Wars-themed lands at Disneyland park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will open in 2019. Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger made the official announcement this week during The Walt Disney Company Q1 FY17 Earnings call. (Read more details in George’s original post). Also during that call, it was announced that Pandora – The World of Avatar will opens its doors at Disney’s Animal Kingdom May 27, 2017. But that wasn’t the only exciting announcement for the park this week – the new nighttime show “Rivers of Light” will debut even sooner, with the opening date set for February 17! As far as major announcements, Magic Kingdom Park wasn’t left out of the fun. We shared this week that “Happily Ever After,” a fireworks spectacular that will feature the latest in pyrotechnics, original animation, state-of-the-art projection mapping technology and a brand-new score. “Happily Ever After” will begin at the park on May 12, 2017. 10. Just when you thought Casey’s Corner couldn’t get any better (rotating Specialty Hot Dogs!), now our favorite Disney World hot dog spot is open for breakfast! Learn About: Casey’s Corner Magic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants Recently, Walt Disney World announced that its beloved “Welcome Show” would move from its familiar location atop the train station to its new home on the stage in front of Cinderella’s Castle. Casey’s Corner, with its perfect Main Street location and iconic design, is one of a few Main Street, USA, locations that will be opening for the breakfast crowd. We love Casey’s classic decor so much, we might stop for breakfast just to spend more time checking it out! Casey’s Corner While the relocation of the Welcome Show was a downer for those who have grown to love watching it at the train station, the introduction of new breakfast options is pretty exciting! Casey”s Corner Breakfast Menu In case the new options weren’t cool enough, Casey’s will also be serving its full menu starting at park opening — including the awesome toppings bar! Casey’s Toppings Bar Croissant Donuts We had to jump in feet first and get the Croissant Donuts that have been popping up in several locations in the Parks. Casey’s Corner Croissant Donuts You’ll get three decent sized donuts (very slightly smaller than an average sized donut) for the reasonable price of $3.70 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Casey’s Corner Croissant Donut The Croissant Donut is sort of a next-level donut. It’s got the delicious buttery, chewy layers of a croissant with the body of a donut. Casey’s Corner Croissant Donut Interior The Croissant Donut at Casey’s is covered completely in cinnamon sugar, quite different from the Trio of Savory Croissant Doughnuts that appeared at the Epcot Festival of the Arts recently. Casey’s Corner Croissant Donut Close-Up And in case you were worried they might not be sweet enough, they are also dusted with powdered sugar upon serving. Casey’s Corner Croissant Donut We think the Croissant Donuts are a must-grab at some point during a visit to the Magic Kingdom. Whether you prefer them for breakfast or as a snack or side, we don’t think you can possibly be disappointed. 45th Anniversary Hot Dog For those who think no trip to Casey’s is complete without a hot dog, there’s good news. Casey’s has also introduced a Breakfast Hot Dog, which they are calling the 45th Anniversary Celebration Hot Dog. Casey’s Corner 45th Anniversary Hot Dog This dog is multi-layered and pretty epic — in size and taste. Casey’s Corner 45th Anniversary Hot Dog This baby starts with a traditional Casey’s Corner hot dog. The buns will vary depending on what size you get. We bought a foot-long this time, and it comes in a traditional bun. The regular sized hot dog comes on a potato roll. Casey’s Corner 45th Anniversary Hot Dog On top of the hot dog you’ll find shredded hash browns (the only really breakfasty thing about it), shredded cheddar cheese, bacon pieces (well, I guess that’s kind of breakfasty?), and fried onion straws. It’s drizzled with a tasty chipotle ranch sauce (totally not breakfasty, IMO). Casey’s Corner 45th Anniversary Hot Dog While we are loving the combination of flavors, we are sort of questioning the breakfast designation a little. But, honestly, we aren’t so worried about that. Because it’s so yummy! Casey’s Corner 45th Anniversary Hot Dog The regular sized meal (served with fries or apple slices) is $10.79. For the foot-long version, the meal runs $12.29; the dog without a side is only $10.29. Casey’s Corner 45th Anniversary Celebration Dog Signage We really enjoyed the foot-long because that traditional bun does a better job of wrangling the toppings than the potato roll we got with the Mac and Cheese Hot Dog recently. And like the Mac and Cheese Dog, the 45th Anniversary Dog is also a specialty hot dog. We will keep an eye on that rotating menu and let you know the changes. Other Casey’s Breakfast Offerings In addition to the Croissant Donuts and the 45th Anniversary Celebration Dog, Casey’s is also serving up more expected breakfast items. Muffins run $3.29 or a DDP snack credit, while Bagels will cost you $2.79 or a snack credit. Overall We love that we have new breakfast options in the Magic Kingdom and that they are so conveniently located. The breakfast items will be available from park open until 11AM, so consider that when you plan your next Magic Kingdom excursion. What’s your Magic Kingdom breakfast style? Let us know! 13. We’ve now managed to taste most of the artful dishes at the Food Studios around World Showcase Promenade (and highly recommend the wild mushroom risotto with aged Parmesan, truffle shavings and Zinfandel reduction at Masterpiece Kitchen), but the ever-changing visual and performance art brings us back for yet another weekend at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. Top of the list for this Friday to Monday is a seat for the Disney on Broadway Concert Series at America Gardens Theatre. Disney Theatrical stars Kissy Simmons and Alton Fitzgerald White will be performing songs from “The Lion King,” “Aida,” “Aladdin” and “The Little Mermaid.” Included with park admission, their concerts alone are worth a return visit. But we’re also excited to see Disney Legend Marty Sklar, the guy who ran Walt Disney Imagineering for decades, presenting the art of Herb Ryman (the man whom Walt Disney asked to sketch the original drawings for Disneyland park) and Mary Blair (best known for her character designs for the “it’s a small world” attraction). Marty worked with them both, and has fascinating tales to share. Marty joined the company at Disneyland in 1956, so his tales are especially captivating to Disney fans. The complimentary seminar is at 4:30 p.m. Sunday; his Saturday seminar is sold out. There are 18 seminars throughout the weekend, some complimentary, some with a fee. We’re taking note of the complimentary Handwritten Typography on Friday; Glass Blowing & Glass Art at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and Food Styling 101 (learn how to make your Instagram photos shine!) at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Two others catching our eye are Olive Oil 101 at 11 a.m. Sunday ($39), and Venetian Mask Making at 11 a.m. Monday – you get to take home your own papier mâché art while learning the history behind mask making ($39). For reservations, call 407-WDW-TOUR. And there are plenty more: check for the latest schedule here. View the full article

  15. I’m not sure anyone loves love as much as Minnie Mouse, and with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, her sweet pink-and-purple-painted house in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland park is the perfect place to celebrate the occasion. She may be known for her signature polka dots, but you can see she loves to decorate with hearts! She even has a heart-shaped phone … … and a heart-shaped mirror! What is your favorite heart-shaped detail inside Minnie Mouse’s house? Let us know in the comments! View the full article

  19. With two new Outdoor Kitchens and delectable eats all around World Showcase Promenade, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival highlights amazing gardens and topiaries, but tasty food and drink are a big part of the fun. The 90-day festival from March 1-May 29 connects food to its roots with gardens at each Outdoor Kitchen that grow examples of the produce that’s being served. New kitchens this year are Northern Bloom and The Berry Basket, joining 13 returning Outdoor Kitchens. Check out the food menus – it’s impossible to try everything in one visit, may need to visit the festival more than once! Each Outdoor Kitchen also include beverages to pair with the dishes. And there are vegetarian and gluten-friendly options along the way (we’ve noted below). 25. CELEBRATION, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2017) – A tale as old as time gets ready to take the stage with “Beauty and the Beast,” a brand-new musical production inspired by Disney’s live-action adaptation of the animated classic. The show will expand upon the most imaginative elements of the highly anticipated live-action and classic films and delight Disney Cruise Line guests aboard the Disney Dream, beginning this November. Audiences will once again fall in love with the enchanting fairytale as they embark on a sweeping journey to discover the power of transformation through true love and courage. This new production of “Beauty and the Beast” celebrates the romance, adventure and magic of the live-action film, weaving in the charm and nostalgia of the award-winning animated feature. “Beauty and the Beast” will bring the timeless fable to life like never before, featuring a style of theater that interlaces classic storytelling elements with cutting-edge technology, to create a unique, theatrical experience in the 1,340-seat Walt Disney Theatre. An innovative take on the story will transform renowned songs into spectacular, show-stopping numbers, and lavish costumes and puppetry will bring a fresh perspective to beloved characters. Re-imagining a tale as old as time Drawing inspiration from the live-action film, the stage musical uses the scenic motif of a music box to guide spectators through the story. Set designer, Jason Sherwood (“Paint Your Wagon,” “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular”), worked in concert with video designer, Aaron Rhyne (“Frozen, A Musical Spectacular,” Broadway’s “Anastasia”), to create a transforming set that will take audiences on a magical journey through the music box, from Belle’s provincial French town to the Beast’s mysterious castle. To bring “Beauty and the Beast” to the stage, Disney assembled an all-star creative team, led by director and choreographer Connor Gallagher (“Tangled: The Musical,” “Found”). Gallagher collaborated with writer Sara Wordsworth (“Frozen, A Musical Spectacular,” Broadway’s “In Transit”) and a talented collection of Broadway artists to create an imaginative, new approach to this iconic story. Through a combination of high-definition projections, dynamic scenery and a little bit of Disney magic, this new interpretation of “Beauty and the Beast” will create a visual panorama that reaches beyond the stage and into the audience. Complementing the immersive set, lighting design by four-time Tony Award-nominated, Japhy Weideman, punctuates the powerful emotions of the classic tale. Orchestrating a song as old as rhyme “Beauty and the Beast” features songs from the original animated film’s award-winning soundtrack by acclaimed composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman. Complementing the score, the show also includes two of the new songs created for the live-action film by Menken and lyricist Tim Rice, “How Does a Moment Last Forever” and “Days in the Sun.” Enchanting arrangements and orchestrations by Matt Castle and Frank Galgano (“Into the Woods”) will bring a unique musical identity to the production. Beloved songs like “Belle,” “Something There” and “Beauty and the Beast” will receive a musical makeover that reflect the show’s stylized approach, while songs like “Gaston” and “Be Our Guest” will leap to the stage as joyful and exuberant production numbers. One of the most iconic songs in the Disney canon has been completely re-imagined for the stage. “Be Our Guest” is becoming a multi-course French dinner rooted in imagination and fantasy. Rousing choreography and dazzling visual effects will fill the stage during this full-fledged spectacle. Unveiling the magic of the enchanted objects Blurring the line between costuming and puppetry, costume designer Sarah Cubbage (Broadway’s “Skylight”) and puppet designer Lake Simons (“Etiquette Unraveled”) joined forces to give life to the enchanted objects of “Beauty and the Beast.” Beloved characters like Lumiere, Mrs. Potts and Cogsworth are realized in an unprecedented way, using innovative puppetry and elaborate costumes to bring these characters to life in their true scale. “Beauty and the Beast” will debut during the Disney Dream voyage departing Nov. 6, 2017, joining an incredible lineup of Broadway-style stage productions aboard the ship, including “The Golden Mickeys” and “Disney’s Believe.” The Disney Dream sails three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral, Fla. The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures live-action film “Beauty and the Beast” premieres in theaters March 17, on land and at sea aboard Disney Cruise Line ships.
